Introduction & Episode Overview

00:00:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the Daily Forest podcast here at the Global Sports Podcast Network. My name is Stuart. I'm just doing a quick mini episode for you today, talking about the Arsenal game, which is tomorrow as I'm speaking.
00:00:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
But also to review the Newcastle match over the weekend there in St.

Match Analysis: Newcastle vs Forrest

00:00:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
James' Park was Marley.
00:01:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Very colourful description and match review there from Marley. Yeah, so it was a strange game, wasn't it? As has been said elsewhere, usually a thrilling scoreline. Maybe one team goes up, the other team gets back into it's bit nip and tuck, give and take. But this game, it wasn't. Forrest took the lead through Hudson-Odoi, a good finish for him on his return to the starting XI.
00:02:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
um And yeah, so what we have seen before in Forest's winning run in their really strong part earlier in the season was that we'd take the lead midway through the first half or early second half and then we'd shut up shop.

Tactics Debate: Formations and Controversies

00:02:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
But but we weren't going to bring on Marato 10 minutes in just because we'd taken the lead. And then, yeah, somehow we um yeah, I think all the goals were very controversial penalties and a mixture of bad defending. A lot of the defensive players had had an off day.
00:02:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And of course, we're up against Alexander Izak, who we noted in in the preview episodes as being one of the in-form strikers in in world football at the moment. So although it was certainly was worrying that it was our second collapse out of three away games, we also, of course, conceded four goals in that first half against Bournemouth.
00:03:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
But what was particularly awful to concern about Here was that the fact that we're kind of chopping and and changing a lot. So after the Bournemouth win, the thought was, oh yeah, go back to three at the back. That's the formation we need we need to use. And then all of a sudden it's flipped around to the other side. So I think what Forrester is missing right now is that we need that consistency in selection.
00:03:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
Whether the four at the back now is the the way to go going forward, whether that's the formation we need to stick with. Only time will tell, but I don't think that there was any arguments or not from me about going back to the back four for the start of the game against Newcastle. It's what most of us, in fact, all of us had said in and in the preview.
00:03:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the second half, um yeah, Marley said the other penalty and the other penalty and the other penalty. And maybe it was different for him being in the stadium and there at the game, but I certainly didn't think there were Any clear penalty shouts. I mean, there was the one when Murillo was being tugged at, which caused his header to go wide. But I think it's one of the classic situations. If that had been given against us, we'd be furious about It might even prompt another tweet.
00:04:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, I think yeah it's good that we got the two goals, but the fact they were scored by Lengfic and Yates and not, don't know, Elanga and Wood just shows that, unfortunately, this was a disappointing afternoon.
00:04:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
Scoreline, one-goal defeat, probably fair all in all. But 4-3, think that shows the craziness of of the afternoon.

League Standings & Upcoming Challenges

00:04:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
um But we are we are third.
00:04:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
We are third going into this final stretch of the season, these upcoming massive home games against Arsenal and Manchester City.
00:05:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
The link for Bionique there in the show notes. So Arsenal coming up tomorrow as I record, although likely tonight as you listen to this. Again, let's hear from Marley on his take on the game.
00:06:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
I'm not sure if he misspoke or if Marley was calling for the return of James Ward-Prowse there, or maybe it was a joke after Ward-Prowse was outpaced by David Ryer on his return to the West Ham starting 11 in their trip to the Emirates on Saturday. There was a trip that West Ham won.
00:07:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
West Ham won against Arsenal. Pretty straightforward. To be honest, Arsenal

Team Dynamics & Injury Impact

00:07:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
are... I mean, I know Marley mentioned the strength of their midfields.
00:07:20
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it is in attack, they have their injury problems. But in Premier League football these days, it's not just everything is so connected. If your attack, first choice attack is not there, then I think it sort of and impacts the whole the whole team because everything is so structured now. So Mises midfielders, Odekard has looked off because he's not passing to Saka or Martinelli or Havertz anymore. He's passing to a talented but tired kid Ethan Roneri are completely past it unfortunately Raheem Sterling and Leo Trossard who is Arsenal's Jota Silva someone signed to provide good squad value but someone who shouldn't be starting regular games in in the Premier League this season so I'm not not concerned um I mean I'm concerned because we've had a couple of disappointing results recently but in any other situation third v second
00:08:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
with the third team being at home, whoever starts the game in third should always be favourites. Certainly is interesting, Marley mentioned, giving Taiwo more of a a chance. i That was actually the only game Taiwo started ahead of Chris Wood.
00:08:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
This season was the Arsenal away game because it was the first game after the November international break. So it was decided to give Taiwo Aroni the start there. um So it would be interesting this time because Taiwo is coming back from His concussion, his broken nose, he was back on the bench against Newcastle but didn't play. So I'm not sure how fit he is or isn't right now or how eligible he is to play. What were the concussion substitute rules? And you've also got a factor in Ipswich at home on the FA Cup on Monday, as we certainly would otherwise assume. it would be Chris Wood starting against Arsenal.
00:09:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Tywo coming in again in the f FA Cup. Whether you switch them around and spring a surprise and play Aoni tomorrow and Wood. instead of the FA Cup on Monday, that could be an option too. I don't think we'll see 11 changes again for the FA Cup game, but that's ah another story for another podcast, but it's certainly something, an interesting point Mardi raises to give Taiwo even more fitness. It's been goals against Arsenal in previous seasons, including that unbelievable goal that I've already talked talked about in this podcast before to keep us up in May 23.
00:09:42
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yes, and so maybe at the City ground, you can recover cover that spirit. Let's play one more advert and I'll could give you my my team prediction and then we can sign off for this mini episode.

Lineup Predictions & Strategy for Arsenal

00:10:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Here's Encaste allowing us to drop in Marley's voice notes seamlessly and very simply. So starting for me, this is my lineup. but then as As always, when I do my lineup, I always put on my ah blue Adidas Eon baseball cap and imagine that I am Nuno.
00:10:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
It's not necessarily my opinion. It's what I think Nuno will do. Matt Sells in goal. Don't see anything there. There's not going to anyone else between the sticks. The back four, I think it will still keep as that first choice in recent weeks. Ayn Emberlenkiewicz, Murillo, Williams. We often think, is this a game to bring Alex Moreno back in?
00:10:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
No, but if if he then plays well against Ipswich in the FA Cup, that would, for me, then justify him keeping his place. You remember when he lost his place to Nico Williams, Nico only came in to replace Moreno when he was ineligible to play against Villa.
00:11:14
Global Sports Podcast Network
Nico played then so well. He kept his place. I think the Ipswich game, it's not Luton, it's not Exeter. If you press against Ipswich, he should then be allowed to keep the jersey for City ah the following week.
00:11:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
Midfield, I think we're all going cry out for for Ryan Yates, buoyed by his late goal against Newcastle. A couple of games out, the team, Yates relishes the types of match he relishes. Captain Armband back on a big physical battle against a Declan Rice or a Jorginho or a Martin Odegaard.
00:11:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
And partnering Yates, it's going to have to be Elliot Anderson, who's shown he can mix it as a competitive player as well as a technical player. And then the front four, Elanga Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi, Chris Wood.
00:11:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the team selection parts of our podcast are getting boring, and that just sort of proves that we don't really have have that strength in depth, unfortunately. So other than that first XI, the only possible candidates for starts, we've discussed Mourinho,
00:12:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Maretto, yeah, I think unfortunately for him in terms of his his desire to maybe start more Premier League games, he does work best as a closer. If we do go 1-0 up or if we are 1-0 up as early as the 55th minute, then I think he'll he'll he'll come back on. um Yeah, Danilo, yeah, is unfortunately needs maybe a bit more time to get dig adjusted to the rhythm again of of playing Premier League football.
00:12:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
It just seems strange. He has, of course, started in a seven-ne win. But again, I think Lewis McGugan did say on another podcast that when you're injured the first couple of games back from a long-term injury, it's the adrenaline, it's the excitement the thrill of being back.
00:12:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
But then your body starts to catch up on you. I think that's why he was and not involved at all against Newcastle. I don't think, I think that'll be the same against Arsenal. And then he'll maybe get an hour against it, which is on Monday night.
00:13:07
Global Sports Podcast Network
Sangare also looked bright. but I don't think he has quite shown enough that he should be starting ahead of either Yates or Sangare. Yeah, Yates or Anderson, sorry.

Squad Depth Concerns & Future Outlook

00:13:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then Dominguez, I think for the game like this, sitting around in front of the lights, this where need your captain to perform a captain standout performance from from Ryan Yates. Jota Silva and Roman Souza, unfortunately, I think there, again, that you see on X, the joke that they should download the Greek duolingo.
00:13:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
ahead of their move to Olympiacos in the summer. Maybe that's slightly harsh, but yeah, if they were of a higher quality, if they were seen Nuno's eyes to be closer to Ilanga and Hudson-Odoi in quality, then they would have come on at halftime against Newcastle for a change of scene, a change of impetus, the fact that they weren't used at all.
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think they were Certainly, at least Souza was unused against Fulham as well the previous weeks. Yes, they are unfortunately not going to be trusted to start a game against Arsenal and they might not even come on at all.
00:14:12
Global Sports Podcast Network
And Taiwo, see Marley's point, he's done well against Arsenal before.

Closing Remarks & Future Episodes

00:14:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's why he did start ahead of word against Arsenal back in November. And because of the injury, because of that concussion, I don't think that will be the case today.
00:14:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Today, if you're listening on Wednesday or ah tomorrow for me as I'm speaking, or if you've Hit listen straight away after I hit publish. Thanks, Marley, for sending those voice notes. Thanks all for listening and be sure to tune in for our reaction later on in the week.
