Introduction and Opening Remarks

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello and welcome to another wonderful episode of Just Shillin. This is episode number 18, if you're keeping track. I am one of your hosts, Sean Hoffman. And I'm your other host, Andy Bell. How you doing, dude? I'm pretty good, buddy. How are you? I'm very well, thank you. I'm very, very well. And I'm excited to speak to you. So before we get on with anything at all, because
00:00:29
Speaker
I think we tipped off the listeners last week, but maybe we didn't. Maybe we didn't. Where are you? Are you safe? Are you having a good time? But most importantly, where are the cats? Are they safe? Are they having a good time? I am currently in cell block C in Max Security Prison.

Sean's NYC Adventures

00:00:49
Speaker
No, I'm kidding. I'm in the wonderful state of New York. I am in New York City at the moment.
00:01:00
Speaker
been a wild week and we got, we got a little bit more to go. Um, the cats, so the cats are currently in Maine, the great state of Maine, um, staying with Madison's mother. Um, they are having, they are getting spoiled. They are eating too much. And we are getting, uh, constant videos of them misbehaving like they are small children. Um, but yeah, I've been, we, we spent a couple of days in Maine.
00:01:28
Speaker
We went down to New Jersey and then where I think, I think that's the only place I've ever been to where I'm like, do people's horns, like the horns on their cars, do they actually like wear out and you have to get them replaced. Um, and now we're, we're up in New York city, uh, awaiting a wedding. We're up here working like, so this is actually where Madison's like home offices. So she gets to go meet her coworkers for the first time. Um, I'm currently in a hotel room, you know,
00:01:55
Speaker
We're recording a podcast like a true, like a, like a diligently, like, you know, like a true committed individual and just hanging out. It's hotter. It's hotter than hell here. I'm not used to it. I'm not prepared. I'm used to 0% humidity, wildfires and low temperatures. This is high temperatures, humid, no wildfires. So yeah, it's quite a bit of a change.
00:02:21
Speaker
Yeah, I'm doing well, man. I'm enjoying it. We're eating a lot of really, really good food. I had this amazing lobster ravioli last night. Oh, wow. I can't stop thinking about it. And other than that, and milk bar, I don't know if you ever heard of milk bar. It's a
00:02:42
Speaker
there's a Netflix show where they talk about like they have like a different like famous chef on there. And they kind of talk about their story and they demonstrate some things. Well, the the lady who made milk bars, it's like a dessert place. Like she made this cake famous where it's like, it's a like a spark like a sprinkly looking cake, but there's no icing around the edges, you just see like the
00:03:04
Speaker
the raw cake and then icing raw cake and icing, but it's all the layers. And it's yeah, the layers and it is it is so good. And they have these little cake truffles and they have cookies. And we've eaten so much of that. It's like I think it's based in New York. I think that's where it started. So we went there. And this is food with Jimmy Dice for the next 20 minutes. No, no, that can we can we can wait on that one.
00:03:28
Speaker
But no, yeah, we're having a great time. We got some more adventures in store. I'll have to tell you off air about what the itinerary. So I'm not an itinerary person, but we've been given an itinerary for tomorrow evening. I'm going to have to share that with you. Some of my New York friends that I've shown it to, they're like, no, they're trying to kill you guys. Like you're.
00:03:52
Speaker
You guys are gonna be dead. So that'll be fun. You may get weird text messages and voicemails. No problem. I'm here for you buddy. No problem at all. Other than that, we're having a good time. How about

Andy's Recovery and Reflections

00:04:05
Speaker
you? What's new in... It's been a slow week. It's been a really, really slow week. You probably could tell from my tone last week I was
00:04:17
Speaker
battered last week fighting a just had the the I the I operation or the eye surgery sorry was battling a cough hence the reason why you can hear me hacking every every couple of minutes or so and just generally felt
00:04:34
Speaker
although positive about the surgery itself, but just generally felt quite lethargic because I was absolutely knackered or very tired, sorry. But no, this week, so this week, or sorry, the last week has very much been about a little bit of recuperation. Off the painkillers now for the eye, which is great. Off the cough medicine because that seems to have shifted now and passed on.
00:05:01
Speaker
Um, so really it's just about kind of getting back into the street, into the swing of things driving again, which is awesome. Um, so I can, you need to be able to see 20, 20 yards or so, uh, with, with both eyes to be able to get back into the, into the, uh, the driving seat again. So that's, that's back on. And apart from that, mate, it's been really, really slow week. Um, relatively stoic. I can't do, I mean, I.
00:05:27
Speaker
because I'm of that generation now. I do an awful lot of gardening at home. I love my garden. It's that one thing that you can't break. If something goes wrong, it'll grow back. So I can't do, I haven't been able to do any of that because I'm not allowed to risk anything getting in my eye for a couple of weeks. So that will come to an end by the end of this week, which I'm really looking forward to that, by which time hopefully the weather will get a little bit better so I can spend some time in the garden.
00:05:54
Speaker
back at the barbecue, doing a little bit of work around the house and yeah, crack on with it. But I do have a couple of apologies from last week. I did make the mistake of really listening to it. There's a couple of things here. And again, I'll put it down to a cocktail of steroid eye drops, cough mixture.
00:06:20
Speaker
painkillers and some really cheap Pinot Grigio wine. And basically, I perhaps wasn't on my game last week, but I've learned in the last week. And this is where you say that you actually enjoyed Wicked, right? No, no, no. Unfortunately, I can't go back on that. Not yet, anyway. Not yet until the film comes out. But I've learned in the last week how to say megalopolis.
00:06:47
Speaker
Um, which I'm very proud of because, um, I seem to get it wrong on every single occasion that I, I spoke that word last week. Luckily, subsequently I've picked up another couple of pods this week that also struggling with the word as well. I noticed that as well.
00:07:02
Speaker
It might not be the concoction of what I've been ingesting in the last week, but yeah, my apologies for that. It is, of course, megalopolis, not megalopotis. And of course, when I did reference Mission Impossible, the agents are, of course, IMF or Impossible Mission Force. They're not MIB, which of course is Madam in Black.
00:07:23
Speaker
So that was another another apology or another mistake I made last week that was pointed out to me. And then lastly, my humble apologies to our really, really good friend Catherine Nien, who pointed out that Eurovision, the competition that I was talking about, enjoying with the kids the previous weekend, was started way, way, way, way before the European Union was created. And so my apologies for that. I should have known my
00:07:50
Speaker
my history, especially of my own country. But there you go. You can always rely on good people to put you straight. So they're the corrections, and I'm sure there's more that I didn't pick up myself, but they're the corrections from last week. It's been a while since we've had any, so I feel good about that, at least it's content.

Musical Moments and Karaoke Fun

00:08:10
Speaker
But yeah, no, it's been a really slow week. And another reason why it's been one of those slow weeks, as with every
00:08:16
Speaker
organization every once in a while you have to sing for your supper and it was my end of year review as well so I was very much used last weekend to prepare for that never fun but it went it went okay um which I'm I'm pleased about but um yeah apart from that it's all been work work and very very little play which is unfortunate so that moves us on I guess
00:08:43
Speaker
to the news. Oh, before we go to the news, sorry. Sorry, before we go to the news, I want to call out our friend Dave Strut. Dave Strut on the Discord yesterday just plonked a random music video on YouTube and it got me down a rabbit hole. And I don't think I've even explained to him that it really got me down a rabbit hole because I've been looking at
00:09:11
Speaker
cheesy songs for us to sing while we do karaoke in Japan for the last 24 hours. So I have been a little bit busy on something relatively important, and that is for doing research on our repertoire that we'll take with us to Japan, because I'm definitely doing some karaoke with you, mate. I think that's something we need to curate that list.
00:09:40
Speaker
And maybe, maybe we publish it ahead of time. So people know what their head, like maybe not all of them, you know, so people know what their sell tickets.
00:09:49
Speaker
Hey, hey, now we're now we're talking. Well, speaking speaking of YouTube video, random YouTube videos and Eurovision, I actually just got a notification like 20 minutes ago, that that band that I was talking about that Madison hates electric cowboy, they actually have a video premiering tomorrow, where they are doing a song with the Japanese kawaii
00:10:12
Speaker
band Babymetal, which is another one that I'm a big fan of. And so that'll be interesting. And I will be looking forward to that premiere tomorrow. It could. I hope it doesn't. The world works in mysterious ways. Man, it's it's it's meant to be. It's it's all coming full circle now. It's meant to be.
00:10:32
Speaker
So, and just, and just to be clear, I am, I know I left some things off of my preamble, like what I've been up to, like I went on a foodie tour in Maine and I'm, I met this random star Wars fan guy who was wearing a Chicago celebration shirt, but I'm going to save my, my main stuff for next week when I can just consolidate all my main conversations. Excellent. I know. I don't want, I don't want people to think I'm skipping anything.
00:10:56
Speaker
No, no, no. Well, I'm hoping you might be our roving reporter as well and take some sound bites as well. If you get the opportunity. I was joking with Madison that, you know, if I do happen to run into anybody while I'm traveling, I just hope that I can capture the same kind of sound bite that you had when you went to our good friend Chris Hall's house, where it's
00:11:19
Speaker
Oh, man, I'm going into this room. Oh, wow. This is really cool. All right. I'll talk to you later. I just I just I hope I can recreate that in some in some fashion, because I think that would be just. Yeah, that's a that's a heck of a lot of editing skills to do that. It was. It was quite the event.
00:11:41
Speaker
News, my friend, have you picked up in your travels? In your travels, have you had time to purvey the televisuals? Have you had time to check out what's hot and what's not at the moment in pop culture? What news have you picked up?
00:11:57
Speaker
No, but I have one, the only one thing I have. Thanks guys. Oh, see you next week. See you next week. There is one thing, I did watch a lot. I saw one thing that somebody posted, I believe it was on the Blue Harvest Discord. I closed Discord for the moment while we record, so I don't know who it is. I apologize if you listen to this. They posted a picture of,
00:12:19
Speaker
I don't think it was a leak, but it's like some of the early Skeleton Crew merch coming out.

Pop Culture Updates and Speculations

00:12:25
Speaker
And I thought it was just kind of cool to see some of the packaging. It was like a pin, like an enamel pin. Just seeing some of the packaging, like the kid characters, like side profiles. And then it's like a bronze pin. So you can see some characters in it, but it's like bronze. So it's not high fidelity or anything.
00:12:47
Speaker
But I just saw some of the stuff that was in it was cool. Like there's like a droid, like none of this is spoilers. And then just some of the characters. I thought it was neat. I'm like, oh, this is the kind of like teaser that I like. It's like, it's not teasing. Oh, it's not spoilers. It's it's it's actually out there. You know, it's not there's no rumors or anything. It's actually out there and being I'm being advertised at the moment. But no, I was really stoked and it got me really, really quite excited. Yeah.
00:13:15
Speaker
really quite excited. And while I think that you and I are excited about the prospect of what looks like is coming our way with the Akali, I'm really stoked for Skeleton Crew because
00:13:34
Speaker
I wouldn't mind something a little bit more lighthearted. I wouldn't mind something a little bit more Hamblin, as it seems to be. That's the theme or the take that they've got planned for this show. And I thought the images look great. I don't know whether the alien character was a distant relative of Max Rebo. The little blue one?
00:13:59
Speaker
Yeah, but he looked a little bit almost too good in terms of his design. He looked pretty good and maybe not quite the right kind of build stature. And I'm sure I saw some hair there as well, which of course Max doesn't have. But it looked really, really good. And there was one alien that I'm really... There's one of the youngsters, a young girl with a wicked haircut,
00:14:28
Speaker
And the data, the data I... Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly. And I'm sure I could be completely wrong, but I'm absolutely sure there's a species that is blind that can't see. And I'm sure it came from the original Knights of the Old Republic, where one of the Jedi
00:14:54
Speaker
or one of his accomplices that was force sensitive was blind and their species is blind. I could be completely wrong, but I got some major vibes from that as well. It may well just be an enhancement or augmentation, but yeah, it looks tidy. Before anybody corrects me, it was Jordy LaForge is who I was referring to, not Data. Okay, sorry. Saving myself the correction next week. I said Data, but I meant Jordy.
00:15:25
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think we're going to get too many trekkers on our backs, to be honest with you. You never, you never know. Did you, did you see that? Did you see the pin by the way? Did you see like a droid in the back? It's like, it almost looked like a K2SO, but when I first saw it, I thought it was like one of the prawns from district nine because it has like a little.
00:15:45
Speaker
A little tubes right there. It doesn't have the, it doesn't have the jaw section for, um, it doesn't seem to have the jaw section like Katie has, uh, something very, very different. Yeah, I'm up for it. I'm very very exciting. And I hope it's very, very different. The only other news I have was that, that Shogun article you sent me, but that's, that's your news, not mine is.
00:16:09
Speaker
Well, it was, well, funny enough, I didn't actually put it in my news because in my, in my list of news, because it only got picked up today, but it was basically an article that was, that I still haven't fully read. So I don't really want to talk to it too much, but, um, yeah, it was an interesting article talking about how the series can, um, can grow beyond the original, the original author. Um,
00:16:38
Speaker
who's name at the moment, I can't, James Clavell, is it James Clavell? James Clavell, Clavell, Clavell, Clavell, I think, I believe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So he was the original author and we've talked about it before where the
00:16:52
Speaker
season ends where the book ends and there is no sequel and so keeping that going is great and what we should do is probably put the article or link the article in the show notes because I haven't had time since I found it and sent it to you to actually kind of analyze it in any way but any
00:17:13
Speaker
it's less about what they say in the article and more about you know there's more confirmation or more credence behind the fact that season two is going to happen and potentially a season three as well i'm hearing um so it makes it it makes it seem like they're being thoughtful about it like that's what i really like because i my worry was like they're just going to go full game of thrones and just yeehaw some more seasons but it makes it sound like they're being very methodical and thoughtful to the original
00:17:37
Speaker
the original content, the other books that he wrote, and just being mindful of making sure that it's quality. Yeah, but that's all my news. So the only one thing that I want, I mean, there's only one serious note that I wanted to acknowledge and bring up really, and that was really about remembering Ray Stevenson. It's been
00:18:05
Speaker
A year ago yesterday that he passed and left us. And what a performance in Ahsoka. I think he made the series, if I'm perfectly honest with you. I am somewhat biased because he was my favorite character during the season. And we've talked about it, wax lyrical. He made the force interesting to me, or he made the light and the dark side.
00:18:32
Speaker
whatever gray there is in between. Pardon me saying so. He made it a lot more interesting for me because Force users aren't really my gig. And I thought he had a compelling story that was interesting. And I think he actually played the part perfectly and hammered its role out of the park. And here we are a year on. It's only been a year. But I just wanted to acknowledge that. On more positive
00:19:00
Speaker
On a more positive note, Spider-Man 4 has been slated for 2025, so that's good. If you're a Marvel fan, I must admit I have somewhat dropped off, but luckily Spider-Man is still one of those regulars that I will go and see in the cinema along with, well, until now, Guardians of the Galaxy and of course Deadpool as well. Spider-Man was as a kid my number one superhero, so I'm still
00:19:29
Speaker
I still have an interest in following that. I don't know how you feel about. Marvel in general or the news of Spider-Man four. As part of this next wave. The first second there, I started to forget which one it was about, but this is the one that's about Craven and. I'm excited for it. I I. In terms of Marvel, like it's definitely not like the big hype that it was.
00:19:58
Speaker
When, when like in game and things like that, we're coming out, but I do, I do think we're in that period where we're rebuilt. It's the rebuild phase. And I'm kind of, I'm kind of seeing it that way. So I'm still positive, but it's not, I'm not like chomping at the bit for new content. So like we just recently started like, we never watched Loki season two. Um, and so we're, we're finally catching up on that. And it's.
00:20:20
Speaker
It's an interesting watch. We're only two episodes in. It's kind of all over the place. But I've been trying to keep up with some of the other films. It's similar to Star Wars. You can see that they're building up to something. And I'm excited to see what that is.
00:20:36
Speaker
I think I also think that they're trying to change like they're working up something but I also think they're shifting gears because they know they have to deal with like recent news stories and things like that and make adjustments.

Marvel and LOTR Universe Discussions

00:20:47
Speaker
But it's but it's still it's still exciting for me and I still look forward to the new movies coming out. Yeah, I'm not yet. Yeah, likewise. Likewise. It's
00:20:57
Speaker
But like you, I am cherry picking now, as opposed to... Because it's not such a linear narrative as the... I don't know which wave it was, wave three. I can't remember now, wave one, wave two, wave three. The one that ended in essentially Endgame. But I've got a feeling the Craven film is actually a Sony production.
00:21:18
Speaker
Um, that is coming out at Christmas time, coming out in the winter. So it's different. Spiderman four is different. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, so I've got a feeling that the crave and the Hunter, I could be completely wrong. Just give me a second. Um, I've got a feeling.
00:21:37
Speaker
It's part of the, I could be completely wrong here, but it is definitely coming out in the winter. Um, I just don't know whether it's part of the MCU or part of the expanded stuff. Um, or, you know, the way that venom was, was treated, for example. Um, I can't tell at the moment, um, but it is definitely a, sorry, I'm just trying to bring up the poster.
00:22:08
Speaker
October is coming out. It is Marvel. It is a Marvel production. But it's certainly not, it doesn't look like it's the fourth Spider-Man film. At the moment, there is no confirmation of the plot. They are separate then.
00:22:26
Speaker
Yeah, yeah, there is no confirmation of the plot, although there is a rumor, and we don't, well, we don't entertain rumors with any, you know, with any credence here, but we do talk about them. There is, it could introduce Venom and Miles Morales. Miles Morales would be awesome if we can bring him into the MCU, and potentially teaming up with Daredevil. Now,
00:22:55
Speaker
I hope they don't get as busy in inverted commas as perhaps some of the other production comes. They always try to go bigger and better and faster and louder. And I hope they don't go down the trope of just adding more and more characters to kind of...
00:23:13
Speaker
the typical Spider-Man thing where it's like, here's the villain, but they're not really the villain, here's the actual third act villain. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it just gets a little bit confusing and then you end up compromising the good stuff because you're trying to squeeze so much into a two and a half, you know, into a two hour, two and a half hour film. Anyway, that's exciting.
00:23:35
Speaker
Since we talked about Andy Serkis last week and the Gollum film that's supposedly coming out at some point in 2026, I believe, there's also an animated series coming out called War of the Rohirrim.
00:23:54
Speaker
which of course are the guys that, um, they, they, the horseback, um, people of the planes, um, in middle earth, there's a, there's an animated feature coming our way for that. Uh, again, don't have too much detail on that, but they really seem to be expanding the, um, the Lord of the rings, um, piece quite a bit at the moment. Uh, again, I don't know if that's another,
00:24:20
Speaker
I don't know whether that's associated with Prime as well, but we shall see. And then lastly, there's a Tomb Raider TV series coming out written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. So she's been brought on as showrunner.
00:24:45
Speaker
Which is good because she's an awesome writer. I mean, as well as her, you know, whether you like her acting or not, her writing in TV productions like Fleabag are absolutely fantastic. She's a very, very smart writer and humorist. And yeah, really, really smart. I know that some folk didn't particularly like her take or didn't like her role in the latest indie film.
00:25:10
Speaker
I personally think she's ace. But yeah, no, she's taking on the Tomb Raider TV series, which I think is quite interesting. And she could do a really good job in that she can add humor to rather stoic situations. So I don't think it'll be as
00:25:36
Speaker
be like poppy and fantastical as perhaps the Angelina Jolie.
00:25:43
Speaker
series, or sorry, a couple of films that she did on Lara Croft. But then again, it might have a little bit more sparkle and less seriousness or less severity than the last film, which I thought was good, by the way. It reminded me of the latest reboot or the most modern reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise on
00:26:07
Speaker
on console, it had that kind of very stripped back raw kind of building, building it up, building her skills, ground up.
00:26:18
Speaker
I could see it being a lot like the Moon Knight series. I like I think it more like the Tomb Raider stuff really lends itself to the TV series style. Like I think a lot of a short shorter episodes instead of one giant movie and like kind of play it like how Moon Knight went where there's like a little bit of humor, a little bit of kind of that that vibe. And then you kind of have an over a larger arc, but there's like kind of weekly episodes that'd be that'd be really neat. I'm excited for that.
00:26:47
Speaker
What was that program that was sorry? Carry on. But I will say the no, this is this is a stupid comment. It's like, yeah, but I think that the comment sections on social media for this announcement are something that I will be staying away from. I'm sure they are a dumpster fire. Right. But anyways, as you were saying with real. No, no, no, I was going to I was going to say, I think that the yeah, I think I think the two movies
00:27:19
Speaker
were fine. They didn't blow my socks off. As I said, I thought that the latest reboot was really quite good, but not particularly memorable, which is sad. I think you're right. I think a TV format for something like Tomb Raider, very episodic, very individual, almost
00:27:41
Speaker
anthology tales. And it reminded me of a TV series going back between 2014 to 2018. It was called The Librarians. Do you remember The Librarians? I thought the format was fantastic in that it was very, very episodic adventure of the week type of let's go and find mysterious and ancient artifacts. And it seemed to me
00:28:11
Speaker
It was a lot of fun and I always thought to myself, this should be how Tomb Raider is. And so if it is a TV series, I hope that they do have the opportunity to jet set, travel the world, different artifacts being found for different reasons and maybe
00:28:35
Speaker
establish behind the scenes some continuity to bring something together, to bring the story together at the end, but don't make it as much of a big deal as individual and enjoyable episodes. So yeah, I'm looking forward to what Phoebe can deliver because I think she's very, very good at that kind of stuff. She reminds me.
00:28:59
Speaker
very, very different styles. But she reminds me as gifted as being as gifted as Donald Glover. You know what I mean? Yeah. Being able to because they do the acting role, they're able to do the writing role extremely well because they know how something should be conveyed or delivered. And
00:29:20
Speaker
Yeah, so I'm looking forward to that. And that's really only the news that I've picked up this week. And yeah, it's the only other thing I would say and I did forget to talk about this in the news is that I got the opportunity to speak a few of our friends.
00:29:37
Speaker
on Sunday night, off the cuff, wasn't planned at all. And I spoke to Chris Emily and Christine, it was lovely catching up with those guys and chewing the fat and doing it in a very, very relaxed environment where we didn't have to worry about what we were, you know, we weren't recording, we didn't have to provide content or anything. And in fact, it was so relaxed that a few of us were actually doing some work while we were talking.
00:30:04
Speaker
Chris was preparing a presentation and we were just chewing the fat in between getting stuff done as you prepare for the next working day. It was really, really good and I really, really enjoyed it. I just want to shout out those three and let them know that I really enjoyed their time and thank you. Okay, so I was about to ask the question. This actually might be the shortest episode of all time, by the way.
00:30:33
Speaker
We always say that. We always do. What are you watching? If you are watching, what are you listening to? Now you're doing a lot of traveling, so I'm assuming you're listening to some stuff. Or indeed, what are you reading? And again, you're doing some traveling, so I'm assuming you're reading something.
00:30:57
Speaker
So one of these bridges, the gap between news and what I've been listening to and watching. So it's kind of more of a news. I don't know. It's whatever. I don't know if you saw the video that they put out where Amanda Stenberg John Williams prepared, like wrote an arrangement for her and she played it on violin and they released it as kind of like an acolyte promo.

Impressive Performances and Binge-Watching

00:31:22
Speaker
That was really cool.
00:31:26
Speaker
Just, I can only imagine if John Williams like wrote an arrangement for me. Well, one, if I was talented enough to like play an arrangement, but just like that would be like, no one can take that away from you. That is like the best star Wars gift ever. Like, Oh, I, you know, John Williams wrote this piece of music for you. Here you go. Like I'm, I can, I can die now that, but I don't know if you haven't seen the video, I'll put a link to it in the show notes for everybody. It's really cool. Um.
00:31:55
Speaker
I did see it and it is beautiful and it sends shivers down my spine, especially at the beginning as well where she didn't quite get it. She didn't quite like her performance and she picked up a violin again and kind of started again and then the whole journey and everything with Mr. Williams. Yeah, no, it was really, really good. Really, really good. I'm looking forward to that.
00:32:20
Speaker
Oh, yeah. I wasn't. You know, I wasn't. I wasn't at all. I was because it's force uses and stuff. I was like, yeah. And I know nothing, absolutely nothing about the High Republic. I'm going in completely blind. I have no idea at all. So I am. But the more and more I see of it, the more
00:32:43
Speaker
the more tidbits that are thrown our way, either on purpose or accidentally, the more I'm intrigued and looking forward to watching it. I have a theory about what's going to happen in that show that I haven't really seen anybody else. I've heard all of our friends actively, like, get it, not get it wrong, but you know what I'm saying there, like, I have a theory
00:33:10
Speaker
I don't want to spoil it on here, but we could, we could talk about it offline, but I think people are going to be shocked if my theory is correct. Um, but yeah, we can, we can save that. Oh, on that point, on that point. And actually it's a, it's a PSA plus an instruction for you young man. Um, on Sunday, the, um, the scruffy, our friends at the scruffy looking podcasters are recording.
00:33:37
Speaker
And they are going to be recording their true or false precursor to the opening, to the premiere. And what I mean by that is that what they normally do is they kind of guess what's going to happen. And each of the boys will have, I don't know, half a dozen, a dozen, two dozen, three dozen, depends on how long it takes.
00:34:03
Speaker
ideas that may or may not happen during the series. And they have to vote whether it's going to be true or false. And then at the end of the series, they'll look back over their notes and establish who the overall winner is. But what they do do
00:34:20
Speaker
is they invite us, their faithful listeners, to also add some suggestions as to what will happen or may not happen. And then again, the boys vote against either true or false as to what we propose. And they're asking for our help in providing them with some
00:34:43
Speaker
with some questions or with some statements that they can then vote against. And so I do implore everyone that listens, is an avid listener of the Scruffy looking podcasters, to email them at the following email address that I currently... Or go to their website scruffypod.com and find it there. I think it's...
00:35:14
Speaker
Sorry, just bear with me folks. I'm trying to find their, yeah, or go to their website. Sorry. Say again, what's, what's their website? ScruffyPod.com. Here you go. We're doing a, we're doing a public service here and we're doing it in real time because that's the way we roll. So their email address folks is
00:35:46
Speaker
Email address is Scruffy Podcasters at gmail.com
00:35:58
Speaker
Yeah, what I did, you know, as I shut down everything on this, so that we could record properly, I shut everything down. Yeah, it is. Scruffy Podcasters. S-C-R-U-F-L-F-Y-P-O-D-C-A-S-T-E-R-S at gmail.com. And that at least wasted two or three minutes that we could have this week's episode out.
00:36:23
Speaker
But yeah, give them a bell, guys. Send them a line and let's see how they all do in terms of their prediction of the show.
00:36:33
Speaker
Anything else, buddy? You've been watching listening to I've watched. There's something about my brain when I get on an airplane. I'm always like, I'm going to read. I'm going to read. And it's like, as soon as I get on airplane, my brain goes to absolute mush. So what I did do is I have watched all three. Right. Uh, playing into the apes movies, the, the modern ones, not, I don't.
00:36:55
Speaker
Not the Mark Wahlberg one, but like rise, dawn and war. I just shot through those. I never, I'd never seen dawn or war. I had seen rise with James Franco and I was like, ah, it's okay. I saw it like a long time ago, but the other two, like the last one was with a Woody Harrelson was
00:37:19
Speaker
interesting, for sure. It's like a definitely different take and different vibe. But yeah, I thought they were pretty good. I'm excited. I'm excited to kind of see the new one. And I think I needed that context for what had happened and see how they where they take it. Because I know I know it's kind of kind of disconnected, but it's in the same universe. But yeah, I thought the whole purpose for watching those. Excellent. Because it doesn't look far away, is it the new one? A couple of weeks was out now.
00:37:49
Speaker
I think it's out now. I think, I think some of our friends have seen it. I think. Yeah. Another movie that I watched on the airplane that I'd never heard of. I knew of the situation many years ago, but I never knew they made a movie about it. Um, and it's called David Holmes, the boy who lived. And it's about the stunt performer who was paralyzed from an accident while
00:38:19
Speaker
performing on the Harry Potter films. He was the Daniel Radcliffe. Oh, wow. Stunt man. And it kind of talked about like it was with Daniel Radcliffe and him and a bunch of other people.
00:38:33
Speaker
talking about who he is. Like he'd been on all the films and kind of grew up with Daniel and all the others. And what happened and where he's now and that kind of whole story. I mean, not typically a movie that I would watch on the airplane, but I don't know, it was really good. Like it wasn't terribly long, but it was a really good documentary and look at that, what happened, because it's something that
00:39:03
Speaker
And like, and a good that's come from it, like the, the organizations and things like that. And I've been involved. And is, and is Daniel actually heavily involved in the, in the documentary or in the film? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's, he's an executive producer and he's actively in it like a lot. That's really cool.
00:39:21
Speaker
I didn't know it happened. Didn't even know. Yeah, it's something that kind of I don't know what the coverage was over there, but and I've never been a huge Harry Potter fan. I kind of came into it way later. Like you're I think I read all the books like right before the the final movies came out after kind of like pushing it away for so long. But no, no, I will never be. Harry Potter's dumb.
00:39:45
Speaker
In my younger years, but then I read I was like, you know, this is like my young adult reading level. This is right up my alley The I remember it came out like they said the go, you know, somebody was gravely injured On set doing a stunt and this goes in this goes into what happens like and just how
00:40:09
Speaker
Involved all of it was like it doesn't it doesn't do like the the blame game pointing fingers and things like that like it's it's It's a really different take on like this kind of documentary than I think You would see elsewhere in a lot of ways and like in David's got like a really positive outlook as it's kind of the individual he is Especially given the circumstances that he went through and
00:40:38
Speaker
It's pretty bad. His situation is not great and not the life that he had going for him. But it's really interesting and a really good watch if that's the kind of thing that you're into. That's cool.
00:40:55
Speaker
That's cool. Moving on the check. While we while we've been in Maine, watching some stuff in the evening, we it wasn't my pick, but there happened to be a movie that came on the television that was not my jam. It's called Mother of the Bright on Netflix. Oh, with Brooke Shields. It's like Netflix is getting into Hallmark movies. Not my thing. All I kept thinking was like,
00:41:26
Speaker
This mom is super toxic, but they keep her rating her around like she's the good one. And it's like, no, you're toxic. You're making this whole thing about yourself. That's all the more I'm gonna talk about that shitty movie. And then we started watching this show called, I'm gonna mispronounce it, I am. I think it's called Shuntarum. It's on Apple TV. I think it's from like 2022. It's got the guy who played Jackson's son of Anarchy in it.
00:41:56
Speaker
Um, it's so far, it's pretty good. Madison read the book and so that's why we're watching it. Um, I'd never heard of it before, but apparently it's an Apple TV show. Um, and it's pretty good so far. It's pretty interesting to see what this guy's getting into. Basically these aren't spoilers. It's like the first episode, like he's been, he was in jail for something that we don't know yet. Um, and now he's not in jail and he's like in India.
00:42:26
Speaker
just it's like in the 80s. Like so it's before cell phones and stuff like that. So he's like trying to get by, but he's kind of like on the run and like avoiding officials. And so I can like the the situations that that entails and and the. The fucked up situations that he seems to keep getting themselves into. And so it's it's pretty interesting. Well, it's got Charlie Hunter minute. Cool. Yeah, that sounds like an arcade guy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
00:42:56
Speaker
Yeah. No, that's really cool. I'll have to, um, that's on the note. That's on the, on the list. Cause we're, um, well, I'm not running out of stuff to watch, but our together, we're getting, we're getting a little bit, having a bit of a drought on what to watch together, um, which I'll talk about later.
00:43:17
Speaker
Yeah, but don't watch Mother of the Bride. It's not good. It's not good. No, no, I'm fine with anything that you suggest is on that channel. I think I'm okay. You've got to be listening to some stuff when you're traveling. Do you have any pods in your ears at the moment?
00:43:33
Speaker
Uh, I've caught up with a couple of our friends, um, you know, the, the usual, the usual podcasts, um, star were spelled out. Who else have I been listening to that I haven't caught up on? Check out Josh's new logo. It looked really tight. I thought that was sick. Looks nice. With the, with the little X wing in there. Yeah. Make a good t-shirt. Make a good stamp for Japan.
00:44:03
Speaker
Didn't think of that. I mean, I had my YouTube music playlist, my offline playlist just drowning in my ears quite a bit. Other than that, am I listening to anything? I don't think I am. It's unfair, mate. You're not at home. You're traveling at the moment and I'm putting pressure on you to pad. So it's not fair.
00:44:27
Speaker
I mean, honestly, I've been I've been I've been reworking some of the websites and just listening to YouTube music on while I'm riding the trains from Maine to New Jersey and all over the place. And oh, I also listened to a lot of white noise on the airplane because we flew with the cats. And so like Madison, this is the first time we've ever flown with them. So Madison had one I had the other. And growing up with kids, I know that there's an element of
00:44:58
Speaker
cats are the same in some ways as small children where like there is an element of like, what is a need and what is like just attention kind of like.
00:45:08
Speaker
You can't like fuss over every little, every little thing. Cause then it's just going to get pervasive. Like, I know I'm, I'm generalizing here. Like it's not, don't take this literally, but I know that there's like a, like an element of that at times. And so like anytime bluebell would like move to what hers would move around and like start clawing at the bag. She's like, Oh, what does she need? Oh, I got to get her to stop. And then bluebell would keep doing it. And I just put my tray down. And if I don't know if scoop did it, but I don't think he did.
00:45:34
Speaker
And I think he just slept the whole time. So I wasn't on there fussing with him. So he's a big boy. He is a big boy. He's a big, big boy. Do you have to get him his own seat? No, no, he fits under there. He's he's very tall and he's got a lot of fur, but he's only he's only 12 pounds. He looks huge. He's very long. Right. When he stands up, he can reach really high stuff.
00:46:01
Speaker
But he's he doesn't have I don't and I wasn't being I wasn't trying to be I wasn't I wasn't being I hope I wasn't being stupid by saying do you give him a seat so we can actually sit up right here actually in this and be served by the by the by the cabin crew I didn't mean that I meant but but you you've got you guys have got two very very large carriers with you
00:46:21
Speaker
where do they go where do the carriers go under your seat they have to be under the seats yeah that's like the rule for the airline and we fly and they have their own little bag in the end like so we usually fly southwest um and so they even sell a carrier that's like perfect for the under the bag what's funny is scoop if you've ever seen the the stretch do the game stray
00:46:41
Speaker
There's a company that sells a cat carrier backpack that's like stray branded. It's got like a bubble, but you can also replace it with like a little grill. Like that's the backpack that we take him on flights with. And it just slides under the sea. So you kind of you lose that backpack or whatever under your seats that they have to go there. Even if you bought an extra seat, they like they won't let you do that. They have to go under this. Right. OK. And stay under there. And then all of our other carry ons are up in the bin.
00:47:10
Speaker
But yeah, they just, they're under there the whole time. And I don't think they, I wouldn't say they hated it. Like they definitely think they liked it more than driving across the country, especially since it's only one day. But yeah, that was, so I listened to white noise and music and stuff like that in podcasts while flying on the airplane. Other than that, nothing more interesting than that. Well, I did listen to one thing that is noteworthy. Again, I've fallen in love with,
00:47:39
Speaker
sack off show, but I'm not going to go into too much of that because I'm starting to get used to it now and it's becoming just a weekly habit. But during the aforementioned chat that I have with Chris and the team on Sunday, they told me about a particular episode of the scruffy looking podcasters.
00:48:00
Speaker
from years gone by. In fact, it was during lockdown, I think. From years gone by, featuring our good friend, Turbo. So Matthew Thirban was a guest on this particular show and it's where the expression, Ignite the Brown, that episode was its genesis.
00:48:28
Speaker
And I have to say, if anyone hasn't listened to it and they know who the scruffies are, I do implore. Oh, if you do even know the episode, just go back and re-listen to it. It's episode 121. The show title is Ignite the Brown. And good God, I have not laughed so hard in so long. I actually, because I'm back driving again, I actually had to pull the car.
00:48:56
Speaker
to the side of the road because I was laughing so much. There's no particular rhyme or reason as to why I found it more overly funny than any other episode that they do, but it's because I've heard this expression for quite a while now and never really understood where it all came from. I've always found it funny, but that's where it came from. It's one of those things that
00:49:21
Speaker
You have to know to kind of get the joke, but it is very, very funny, that particular episode. And I'm glad that I finally got to listen to it, even though it's quite the vintage these days. Started watching Dark Matter.
00:49:37
Speaker
So Lucy and I have only just started, and again, our buddy Turbo recommended this. It's a dystopian, as he put it, it's a dystopian yarn on Apple TV. It stars someone whose name I'll talk about because I'm looking their name up now.

TV Shows and Series Anticipations

00:49:59
Speaker
It's not to be confused with the Dark Matter, the Canadian TV series between 2015 and 2017.
00:50:07
Speaker
which was a Canadian TV series about a bunch of intergalactic reprobates that lost their memory. And all of them spent the season trying to work out who they were. And it was a very low budget sci-fi. This is not a sci-fi. It is a sci-fi, but it's more of a psychological drama, I would say. Joel Edgerton, so the guy who played a young
00:50:33
Speaker
Uncle Owen Lars and Jennifer Connolly star in this program. And it's another slant on the kind of alternate reality or alternate dimension take that I got from the other program from a couple of weeks back. I can't remember at this moment in time. But it's another one of those whereby
00:51:04
Speaker
there seems to be multiple, either multiple dimensions clashing in on themselves. I don't know yet. I've only got past episode one. It's only literally, it's hot off the press. We've only just started watching it. So I've got no idea what's going on, but there seems to be the guy that Joel is playing, there seems to be more than one of him, certainly at least two at the moment. And there's no explanation for it at the moment apart from it seems to be
00:51:35
Speaker
that rather than an accident, there seems to be a reason why these worlds, if you like, are clashing, or realities are clashing. And it seems to be something rather sinister about it that I don't know about at the moment. And hopefully, as I progress through the season, everything will become clear. But it's good, really well done, and very, very well acted as well.
00:51:58
Speaker
Apart from that, that's our new watch together because we finished Clarkson's Farm. I talked a little bit about it last week, Jeremy Clarkson, big personality, liking all over him in the UK. I do like this particular production.
00:52:18
Speaker
Um, and it came to a close, um, and it's, it's very wholesome and they talk, you know, it really, really is very, very good. And as I said, last week, it talks about the, or really, really just stress.
00:52:30
Speaker
amongst all the jokes and japery that he gets up to, it really does talk about just how difficult it is to be a farmer to make profit and make a living these days with government subsidies running out, with the weather, the change in the climate, with competition from imports. It's very, very difficult just to make ends meet and just keep your head above water, let alone make a profit.
00:52:57
Speaker
It's a good show. Still watching Race Across the World, coming to a close now. We're on the finale, I think this week actually. So we'll find out who the winners are. Again, I'm particularly interested in this time because they are going across Asia Pacific, which is good fun.
00:53:18
Speaker
And that, apart from the regular stuff in the background, which I must admit has taken a backseat in the last couple of weeks, like Scrubs and Battlestar Galactica, that pretty much is it. I have not been as prolific as I have been in previous weeks. So yeah, we're going to have to make up for next week, mate.
00:53:43
Speaker
at some point. Oh my God, are we getting in under an hour? What is happening? Yeah, could well be. And if that's the case, that's the case. I mean, you know, at the end of the day, it's just great to talk to you and catch up with you. But yeah, what a turn of events. I mean, look, we've got what, two weeks now? Till we do, till we've got acolyte.
00:54:10
Speaker
You know, we've got two weeks now. It's not going to be long. And I'm sure that they'll be at least an hour and a half, hour 45, two hours, three hours, four hours, whatever. And in fact, hopefully, if the planet's aligned, I'm hoping to take up my seat with Josh, Matt Mull and Catherine.
00:54:38
Speaker
and review with them as it happens, review with them the episodes each week. So you and I will carry on recording our time because you're five to eight hours behind me. These guys are 10 to 12 hours in front of me. Hopefully, if it all works out, we'll be able to
00:55:02
Speaker
I'll be able to manage two sessions a day, first with them and then five to eight hours later with you. So it's going to be interesting, but I'm hoping that we can, like I said, things will align. I've got a horrible feeling. I'm going to be working abroad for the first week, so I might have to skip that one, but I am.
00:55:21
Speaker
very looking forward to catching up with those guys. Oh, on that point, actually, a bit of news that we didn't talk about. It seems to be that there's an early premiere. So it looks like the acolyte is actually coming to the cinema and going to be presented in theaters next week. Is that right? So a week ahead of everyone else? I didn't look at the days. I did saw the locations and I said,
00:55:50
Speaker
I can't go, I don't care. I think you are correct. I think you sent me that article and I was like, oh damn it, I'm going to be, well actually that week I'm going to be in Germany for the first week. So I wouldn't be able to make it anyway. But looking at it now,
00:56:10
Speaker
Um, it's actually next week. Um, but I, I don't know. Um, I think I've probably left it too late and I don't think I'd be the type of person that anyone would invite me to anyway, to that kind of event. But I think it's actually, I think there is a restricted premiere at cinemas next week, which is, um, all good fun. I just hope it, um, I hope people keep shtum and don't ruin the, um,
00:56:35
Speaker
don't ruin the uh the premiere for everyone else when it uh airs on Disney Plus because that would be a shame. I'm just not gonna I'm just I'm just gonna not get on so oh I honestly think it's gonna be like one of those things where nothing's really gonna happen in those in that premiere like I think it's gonna be very exciting but it's not gonna be spoilery hopefully. Yeah I hope not but I mean at the end of the day this is the this is the this is the one production
00:57:00
Speaker
I think that I'm going in without any kind of preconception at all. Because I don't know anything about the high republic. I've got no idea what it's about. I've got no preconception. I can't even speculate. What about this? What about that? The only thing I know is that
00:57:21
Speaker
that Yoda is alive at this time. It's 100 years before the Phantom Marys, right? So Yoda is going to be alive, I'm assuming. Well, even then we don't even know about Plague. We still don't know if Plagueis, he was a legend.
00:57:40
Speaker
but he might not have been in New Canon if Plagueis was Palpatine's or Sidious's master. So they may well make an appearance and be
00:57:56
Speaker
the in the shadows. And I've been told there's a rock. There's apparently a rock that's a that's a particularly good navigator in the High Republic. They literally is a block of stone. And that's all I know. So I I'm. That is probably one of the best things about the High Republic. You know. His name is Gio. OK, their name. I don't know. I think it's a he. I don't know.
00:58:23
Speaker
Okay. Okay. But yeah, no, no. So I hope what I'm trying to get to in a very, very roundabout way as usual is, um, yeah, I just hope it's not spoiled because, um, I'll be gutted. It'd be, I'm quite, what part of the excitement is trying to find out something new for the first time, you know, without, like I said, without any little bit of history, without any preconceptions, it's going to be, it's going to be good. Although, although, um,
00:58:48
Speaker
I do feel I will be craving for information from our buddy Rick at some point as well to find out what the hell is going on. I do have to make a comment about you're guessing this and then you're guessing on Star Wars Spelt Out. I do think it's very funny that a little over a year ago,
00:59:14
Speaker
You didn't want to be recorded on, on microphone because you didn't want to, you know, Oh no, no, I couldn't, I couldn't be on a podcast. I couldn't, not for me, not for me. And you avoided it like the plague in London and look at you now, look at you now, buddy.
00:59:31
Speaker
Yeah, but have you heard me now? There's a reason why I probably didn't have as, let's face it, I'm not a professional. Mate, you were the one to convince me to do this stuff because I love talking to you, I love talking to our friends. And the fact that, and I've got very quickly used to the fact that there just happened to be a microphone in the way. And so that initial,
01:00:00
Speaker
You got to remember as well, it was the first time I met you guys. And as far as I was concerned, you guys were seasoned professionals and knew exactly what you were doing. And it was like, well, I just turned up for the beer. You know, it was kind of like, and to chew the fat with you guys and talk a little wars, it wasn't anything to do with, you know, wanting to do anything about this and take it any further. I do this to talk to you guys. You know, if people listen, then great. Fantastic. I love that. I love that.
01:00:30
Speaker
Um, and if they get, especially if they get value out of it or they, or the very least enjoy it. Um, but really it's about talking to you, mate, and catching up with you and, um, seeing what you're up to, especially your cats. They're, they're up, they're up to something always. Well, mate, let's not procrastinate. Oh, you, you are, you are traveling. So it is going to be a quick one today. Anyway, we knew that.
01:00:59
Speaker
I am hoping that, I mean, I'm sorry, I'm already confident that the acolyte will take us into new territories and we'll go down a lot of rat holes, which will take up some time over the next couple of weeks. But we've also got some really nice stuff planned as well. So we've got a few folks lined up to talk about a little bit of sizzle, you know, about
