So anemia, there's quite a number of different types of anemia, but the most common contributor to anemia is iron inadequacy or deficiency.

Impact of Iron Deficiency on Health

So inadequate iron or deficiency of it can cause a number of symptoms and problems, for example, fatigue or low energy, shortness of breath, headaches, pale skin, growth and development problems, and it can increase the absorption of certain toxic metals like cadmium, lead, aluminum.

Importance of Testing for Iron Deficiency

It can even cause excessive restlessness, frequent limb jerks and restless legs during sleep.

So the important thing to do is to test your child's iron status at least once to see what their baseline is.

Anemia in Young Children: Testing and Treatment

And if your child's iron status is low, then of course your doctor or practitioner will advise you to add an iron supplement to the diet. So it's not extremely common. It seems to be more common in kids under five years of age, but this is just another thing that you can quickly, easily and conveniently test for.
