Introduction and Welcome

00:00:09
Speaker
Hello and welcome to our listeners from the Daily Brentford and Daily Forest Podcast. I'm Lydia from Daily Brentford and today we'll be previewing Saturday's clash at the GTech Community Stadium and giving our production ah predictions.

Game Preview and Predictions

00:00:22
Speaker
Today I'm joined by Marley from the Daily Forest. How are you today? I'm very good, thank you. ah Looking forward to a great episode and a great game on Saturday.
00:00:31
Speaker
Exciting. Will you be there? Or I guess a bit of a track near Christmas?

Challenges and Listener Support

00:00:35
Speaker
Yeah, sadly, I will not be there. I spent all my money on going to the Etihad and Old Trafford and I should be working anyway. Use the day off for City Away, which was a bad idea.
00:00:48
Speaker
I mean, yeah, you you never know, that there could be, well, I was annoyed that I didn't go to the, there was one City Away game, I think it was last season, and I was nearly gonna go, because it was near my uni, and then we won, and of course that was the one time I was like, oh no, I'll set it out, I was so annoyed, but there's always another time.
00:01:09
Speaker
um Alright so just before we get going guys we are a brand new company so we are looking for your support over the coming season and beyond as we look to bring you the best and most in-depth coverage across the entire network. Whether this is a like, subscribe, a comment or a recommendation to your friends who we're very grateful for any risk support that we receive.

Team Improvements and Play Style

00:01:28
Speaker
So to start off today's episode I thought I'd gauge how you're feeling about the season so far, obviously positive, very positive. And do you think that you can maintain this fourth position to the end of the season? I'm not sure if I'm honest. I'm not sure if I'm honest. It feels special because a few years ago, as I've said on our podcast, I would be delighted with fourth in the championship, pushing for playoffs, looking like getting promoted.
00:01:58
Speaker
So fourth in the Premier League, looking at Champions League is surreal for us. But yeah, crazy. Normally, normally we would be we'd be known to get into this sort of position and then throw it away in the final few games. Like, I mean, properly throw it away. I remember we were and set set for all sorts of promotion a few years ago. And after a 4-1 loss to stone, we possible playoffs. I think that might have been the season you went up. If not the season before you. I think the season before you went up.
00:02:28
Speaker
And that was really frustrating. But under noon overseas, that everything feels different, everything feels improved. So if we rate that Kursetti season, obviously we kind of broke it when we got playoffs and got promoted. You know, if we don't bowl and we do finish in European places, it would be magical. That'd be crazy. The feelings we definitely can. Yeah, I definitely think you guys can. And I think that for me, like as a not as a Forest fan, it's definitely a team that's giving more entertainment this season, like different style of play. And I'd be happy to see the Forest take fourth, to be honest. um You're also like coming off the back of consecutive wins.

Brentford vs. Forest: Game Insights

00:03:21
Speaker
Do you think you're in a good place for Saturday?
00:03:24
Speaker
Yes, we're in a very good place Saturday, honestly. Wins away at Old Trafford and at home to... Sorry, sorry losing myself. Wins away at Old Trafford and at home to Villa, one of which coming in the last minute, one of which breaking a curse that has stuck with us for two years now of losing 3-2 at every given opportunity with finally won 3-2. It just kind of feels like a massive uplifting thing Because in the last two years, we haven't scored any equalizers or winners in stoppage time. And we hadn't onre i didn't know the hardie yet we hunt won free yeah from unique but we kept losing free too and last two weeks we've won free two and scored a last stoppage time winner, which is two things that we were getting frustrated about broken. So it kind of feels like not only are we doing well, we're breaking everything that's been frustrating the fans and hopefully
00:04:22
Speaker
We can come to the G-Tech and we can continue that in whatever way possible. Well, hopefully you didn't break our home record so far, yet to lose at home. So yeah, that that's one thing I'm worried about. Liverpool are unbeaten this season to every team other than us. Yeah. That's a pretty impressive stat. Yeah, I mean, I think Yeah, yeah, definitely. like But we've got at the minute the best like home record in the season. I'm just hoping we can hold on to that till the new year.
00:05:01
Speaker
But I have to say, as you were saying, Forest breaking all these curses, maybe there's a chance that it won't go well for us on Saturday. But hopefully not, hopefully not.

Player Contracts and Injuries

00:05:13
Speaker
So, yeah, I'd say you're definitely, and obviously we lost against Newcastle yesterday. And I think a lot of the fans are frustrated that we didn't put as much, we didn't play our best players and it didn't really seem like we wanted to progress in the Cup, even though that's what a lot of fans were wanting.
00:05:32
Speaker
So I think there's definitely some frustration, but it's looking to be exciting on Saturday, definitely. I'd say that. um Also in the news like this week, Chris Woods in talks for a new contract. Do you think he'll stay? I don't see you why i he wouldn't at this point. be Yeah, I think he will. I don't think at his age, anyone's going to be in a rush to sign him. I think he's in good form. So it would massively benefit us to keep him.
00:06:00
Speaker
and I think he's got good friends in the Forest squad, it's the chemistry, they the just the loo, the cohesion behind the scenes that Forest with the players at the minute is unbelievable. Honestly, ah Woody will be really enjoying it and I don't see why he wouldn't extend his contract another year or two, honestly. Yeah, yeah i I definitely think even as an outsider, ah That's my guess that he'll stay on. um So, like we said before about Brentford's home record, and again, you said you you were like breaking curses. We've also now got even more injury issues. So do you think that Forest will be able to take advantage to of this and beat Brentford at home.
00:06:49
Speaker
Hopefully, where you where you're playing, you're back up players, you're two injuries, we will have fully fit, fully firing, very dangerous players running at them. So that could be what lets you down. We've got a couple of injuries of our own, but we've had them ah it's effectively all season. Danilo broke his ankle in the 17th minute of the season for God's sake and Sangare.
00:07:13
Speaker
got injured like in the first international break. So we've not been without those players all of a sudden. We've been out without them all season. So we've been able to adapt well and any injury we've had since hasn't been serious. You know, Morgan gives White's injury a more and that was only because of spending the middle of it. So honestly, I don't think we've had much of an issue

Squad Depth and Competitions

00:07:35
Speaker
with that. Whether that will stay the same, you don't know. We could pick up two or three.
00:07:39
Speaker
devastating injuries against you and that could set us up for a downfall but at the minute injury wise it's looking really good and full credit is due to our medical team if they are keeping these injuries from happening and becoming serious. Yeah, no that's good. I mean I'd say we've kind of had a similar experience in that a lot of the injuries were from right at the start of the season but we just seem to be picking more and more up and people coming back when they're not quite ready and people not getting used to being able to like get used to the the our style of play etc and just recently Pinnock was Pinnock might not be able to play on Saturday and he's someone we'll definitely miss like Rico Henry he was definitely one of our strongest players he's been out for ages now we don't know when he's coming back we've had loads of people who were out since preseason so
00:08:36
Speaker
I think it's a bit of a worrying time as a Brentford fan. And again, as well, Seth Vandenberg as well picked up an injury this week. So I don't know if he'll be starting either. um yeah and we like We just don't have that depth of squad like other teams. Like yesterday when it was in the Cup, we have all these players that have never most of them had never played a minute in the prems so it's definitely I'd say a depth issue for Brentwood. So maybe we can capitalise on that, who knows. It was the same with us in the Carabao Cup first round or second round against Newcastle United where we started our B team but the majority of that B team had never played for the club all together before you know you had Carlos Miguel who came from Corinthians that summer, other summer signings were Eric Marrera, there was
00:09:33
Speaker
Sosa and Jota, an unfit Awani, Elliot Anderson was on the pitch. So we had all these new signings trying to gel together while playing a full 90 together. And for some reason it worked. we We played Newcastle off the park for parts of that game. We were unlucky to go out on penalties because we could see it in the first minute. And I think that kind of just showed how strong we were going to be this season because You look at a team that has no right to outplay Newcastle when Newcastle are playing a strong team, and they did. And that was our backup side. It just gave us confidence into the season that every single player we've got on that bench can do a job. Even our 18-year-old academy player, Zach Abbott, performed like he had from experience

Cup Performances and League Focus

00:10:19
Speaker
in that game. It was magical.
00:10:22
Speaker
well that' was good I mean, ironically, that's who we lost to yesterday as well. Newcastle. So yeah, I think for us, it didn't work out quite as well. like you we We were really poor and I was frustrated because I really thought that we should have given it a better go getting into the semis. And I think a lot of other fans were questioning Thomas Frank's like thinking behind the team that you played yesterday. um yeah But I guess now we have more time to focus on getting up into the top half of the early league.

Fun Question Segment

00:11:03
Speaker
I mean, don't be too disheartened. Sometimes getting into semis isn't all that pretty. When we first got promoted, we made our first Cup semi-final in years by beating Wolves in the quarter-final on penalties at the city ground and United battled us in the semi-final at our pace and at Old Trafford. So it's not that glamorous, don't worry.
00:11:20
Speaker
Yeah, true. Maybe it's saving some heartache for the future. So after a quick ad break, we're gonna, thought we could discuss plays that we're most excited slash nervous to face on Saturday, and then give our all important score predictions. Every club, every day. The Global Sports Podcast Network.

global sports podcast network. Right okay so we're back and um thought let's look more towards Saturday. We mentioned Chris Wood at the start and I'd say from Brentford's perspective he's definitely someone that will be like worried about facing on Saturday. I guess he really makes the most of all your guys's set pieces. He's strong at the front and Defensively, we've been really poor this season. We've yet to have a clean sheet. we always It always ends up being loads of goals. um But yeah, I think defensively, that's an area of concern for us. So I'm expecting a lot of goals again on Saturday. It seems to always be every time I'm at the GTEC, at least three goals. um So yeah, I'd say definitely Chris Wood is someone to look out for. Who would you say as a Forest fan,
00:13:53
Speaker
you more like nervous about facing on Saturday. The immediate worry is your front two, Johan Visser and Brian Umbermo. I believe they have 19 goals between them this season. They both look really dead. they really They're really prepared to go. Yeah, they have done so well to replace Ivan Toney. You seem better without Ivan Toney, if anything, so those two worry me. And this might be the championship a few years ago when he was at Hall City.
00:14:23
Speaker
talking but Keene Lewis Potter worries me as well. He was always warned me when we played Hull in the Championship I'd say right, man triple mark Keene Lewis Potter. He's not quite as stand out in the Premier League but I'll still be worried about him and if he's still playing dead me? Yeah he's cutting back like he got brought on he was injured for a bit but yeah we're still playing him.
00:14:50
Speaker
He's getting on a bit. He's that tall, strong defender, a bit like Dan Byrne, who could code yeah make Chris Wood a bit struggling, because he did struggle against Dan Byrne, so I would be worried about Ben Mee should Chris Wood have to come up against him. Yeah, I mean, I'd say, again, like, so I said Chris Wood, and then I'd probably say Alanga as well. I think just our are all our injuries and stuff like that, and our defensive issues. And I think because of your style of play, like it could be a real issue for us more than usual. um Although, yeah, I think without a doubt, there'll be a lot of goals. But I really have a lot of faith in our front two, and Chard are now finding it's going to his scoring ways. So I think we've got lots of options on the front. um So I think, yeah, if anything, it's going to be exciting.
00:15:49
Speaker
and get a lot of goals. So I thought maybe we could end with our overall score predictions. I'm going to say, even though you mentioned the 3-2 cast, I'm going to say it's going to be a Brentford win 3-2 and I'm relying on our home records. Yeah, I don't think it'll be 3-2 because one, I don't think we'll concede two goals We've got such a strong back line at the minute with Murillo and Malenković at the incentive back and Sells in the form of his life. All three of our main full backs, full backs are playing so well at the minute. I don't think you'll score twice. um And I don't think it'll be, we'll lose by one. We seem to have such a fight among us this season that if we won now in stoppage time, I can see us getting in stoppage time equalizer.
00:16:44
Speaker
ah they I think we've only lost one got the game by one goal this season, and the others have been. If we've lost, we've lost by two or three. So I'm going to stick to my prediction from this morning's podcast and I'm going to say Nottingham Forest 1, goal through Chris Wood and Brentford 1, goal through Brian Unburmo. Right. Okay, so let's draw. Yeah, I think, you know what?
00:17:12
Speaker
ah but There will be, in my mind, there'll be a lot of goals, but I see what you mean about your defense as well. So I guess we'll just have to see.

Closing and Listener Engagement

00:17:23
Speaker
um I always like to end the crossover podcast with like a fun question. Do you have any, you mentioned at the start, been to a lot of away days, do you have any standout stories or memories from any times traveling away?
00:17:41
Speaker
Not really. Definitely not safe for podcast stories.
00:17:49
Speaker
i We'll let everyone imagine them. Alright, well thanks for joining. Hopefully you have a more restful Saturday. No crazy wild stories to share. um Thanks for listening everyone and remember to tag us in your socials with those school predictions and share with your friends and fellow fans.
