The Origins of a Love for Books

00:00:01
Speaker
okay so what got us into writing or reading or anything what what started the love of books well mine was If we're going back into the love of books, it was spite for me. Um, my third grade teacher told me I couldn't read this one book series called the horrible hit, uh, horrible Henry or, or was it horrible Harry? I can't remember. It's been years, but shes yeah, one of those. And she told me I couldn't read them. So I proceeded to read the entire series and, um, do a book report on each time we had a book report.
00:00:47
Speaker
Just to show my teacher I could actually read them.

Books as Coping Mechanisms

00:00:49
Speaker
um But if we went to actual like what actually got me into like reading bigger books, it was probably both Ally Carter and ah Rick Wardens. Yes. For me, I don't know. I've always loved books, like to go to like the very beginning.
00:01:09
Speaker
I've always been a big reader. I was very much a loner growing up like I'm neurodivergent. I think I've mentioned this before and I did not know that growing up for a long time like it was the end of high school that I started being like I think this is what I have and like I started getting an idea um but like a lot of it growing up it was like i know i'm different and i just have no way to quantify it so i was very much just a loner because no one really understood the way my brain worked a lot and i didn't like talking to people because it was like
00:01:51
Speaker
clear that I was not normal in that sense. So like I had one friend growing up, but that meant that like I had one singular best friend growing up and then I switched like to my ah sister now. like We're not blood related, but we're but very close and trauma bonded at this point.
00:02:13
Speaker
so like I switched from that one friend to her and then that was kind of like the majority of my life I've had like maybe three friends at a time and yeah that that led to a lot of like I would focus in solely on books like I would we would do like the my elementary school had this like reading what's it called oh my god was it like the You read so many books and you read the free pizza? No, it was, you get little notebooks, not even notebooks. You get like a page in a folder, in a color-coded folder for what level you're at. And you read a certain amount of books, fill out the the form, like thing that's inside where you keep down, like you're you're marking down every book you read and the times and the dates and everything. And then once you finish one, like the page,
00:03:09
Speaker
in your current folder you move on to the next color which is the next level.

Finding Belonging Through 'Gallagher Girls'

00:03:14
Speaker
So it was like this color coded system of like how many books have you read and every time you would get one you would get like a little medal of like for like in the strap was like that color for that level and it was like you completed this level here's the little medal and I was consistently like so many ahead of everyone else. Like I had so many medals. I think at one point when we were like going through stuff or like when I was growing up my mom was like, put them all on and we'll take a picture. And I was like, this is a lot of medals, dude. Yeah. And so that was very much where it was kind of like a coping mechanism where it came from, just of like books
00:04:01
Speaker
didn't question my weird quirks or like I didn't have to put on a front, like I didn't have to mask around books. So yeah, that was kind of where my love of books started. And then in sixth grade, fifth, sixth grade, things got really difficult for me. I had a really, really bad person in my life.
00:04:27
Speaker
and that's around the time I read Ally Carter and that was kind of the thing that kept me going. Like I when I refer to back to it like that truly the Gallagher girls books truly saved my life because it gave me that escape during a time where I was having it was a really rough time um and they were ah the second I got through it and reading those books and that
00:05:00
Speaker
kind of like the Gallagher girls books in particular are very much of like this group of girls on the outside they're going to a school no one knows the truth about them they're hiding everything from the outside world and the first book in particular is very much about hiding your real self and that was just a thing that really spoke to me a lot at especially growing up like that and how I did grow up and the person I am and that really gave me
00:05:36
Speaker
another person in my corner especially with like how everything was going and the abuse i was literally experiencing every day at school from this person and it kind of it saved my life and my whole thing um of why i wanted to write after that and like why I really really love it is I wanted to help someone else the way that those books helped me like I wanted to pay it forward so yeah that that's a long-winded way of describing why I got into books and writing and stuff but yeah
00:06:16
Speaker
Yeah, once I- well I had the horrible Harry story but also I was a military child so I didn't really have like a lot of friends growing up for longer than a school year. Yeah. So once I got into reading especially Ally Cogger's books because I was still- I don't remember when they- she stopped publishing the books because she

Books and School Life Intertwined

00:06:37
Speaker
finished a series. I think I was like in middle school but it gave me something every year to look forward to because I'd be like go and get the new book, read it. It helped a lot with dealing with being a military child and literally only having my siblings who love them, but ah we're all completely different people, especially at that time.
00:07:03
Speaker
Yeah, especially growing up every every so person's different. ah This is really going to show ah a bit of an age gap here between me and you. I didn't start reading them until it all, but the last book was out. So I was able to binge read the first five, six. yeah How many books are there?
00:07:24
Speaker
Uh, I think there's six. Let me just turn around one, two, three, four. Yeah, there's six. Yeah, six sort sophomore year, I think, and enter her senior year. Yeah. It's like one per semester. Yeah. That's yes. Cause she is not a freshman. That's, that's clear. She's a sophomore and it's two or senior year. Yeah. So.
00:07:47
Speaker
I started them in like, like I said, sixth grade. um And I just read with them ah all all through until the last book because that wasn't out yet. So when that came out, that was a big deal for me. But where was I going with this? I totally lost my train of thought.
00:08:08
Speaker
Yeah, oh, with the friend thing. Like, I'm an only child, so I didn't even have like, like, ah something I talk about, <unk>ll I'll joke about a lot about when people are like, I hate being an only child, like our mutual friend will be like, yeah, being an only child sucks. Are we really comparing trauma?
00:08:27
Speaker
and like for comparing experiences and I was like, have you ever played Monopoly alone? It's f freaking hard. And she was like, yeah, yeah, it is. like I would come up with such different games within games. like I'd be balancing four different personalities for each hand I was playing while all trying to play Monopoly and like trying not to favor one hand or like do anything. it was it's a miracle i'm only as fucked up as i am honestly it's a miracle i'm not worse but that's a tie let me tell you ever try playing monopoly alone it's freaking difficult
00:09:08
Speaker
Especially because I didn't even have normal men mono had bunch bob Monopoly. Monopoly. Oh, like I would like, I'd like role play and have like, I'd make stories of like all the characters and like these are their houses and this is like their jobs. Like I would make it into like a doll house almost of a Monopoly board because I was psychotic and a very lonely child and I would have one friend.
00:09:37
Speaker
And fourth grade's around when it started getting rough. Because me and this one friend growing up, she's not like the bad person or whatever. She she was just ah a friend growing up. She didn't treat me great, ah which I realized later on. But like it where we were kids, and it wasn't her fault. like It was a thing of like the situation was screwy from the beginning. like she It wasn't her fault at at all.
00:10:02
Speaker
um because like she in fourth grade is her gang rough and we were only in like the same classes like every other year and so she was really popular like she was a very charismatic person and very extroverted which is why she adopted me as her friend and so she made a lot more friends which made it very difficult for me because all of a sudden like I'm now sharing the only person I talk to, which means a lot of the time I'm just alone. So that was another thing of like books really, really were like reliant for me because I had no one else to talk to for the most part. And so that books were like my crutch.
00:10:48
Speaker
and I literally this is something like uh we looked back at like my my sheets for that reading thing in the folders and we looked back at those and we're like I arrived the twilight series in third grade that is totally yeah so the one plus about living on the military base is that everyone or at least the librarian knew my mom because my mom also came in a lot so i couldn't read stuff like that
00:11:23
Speaker
oh no my mom's the one who gave me the books oh that's right they were her books she was oh and she was evil about it because i got to the last like book and i started it and she was like oh jessica dies or something like she gave me a fake spoiler and Funnily enough, I've done that to my sisters though. Yeah, she gave me a fake spoiler and then um I was reading it the whole time like waiting to get to this death because I was so excited for it. Like I was happy. I wanted her to die and she told me Renesme killed her. So I was waiting the whole time for this girl to die and then she just didn't. I was so mad. I have a question. Who is Jessica? i I've still never watched or read any of the Twilight.
00:12:15
Speaker
ah Jessica is the one played by Anna Kendrick. Oh, okay. I kind of know her because mainly because of all the memes. I love that Anna Kendrick literally forgot she was in that movie too. Yeah, it's a forg forgettable movie. Um, I'm sorry, that blue filtering is not forgettable.
00:12:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:12:41
Speaker
I love how you can always tell when you just get like a random frame from a movie. You can always tell if it's Twilight because of the blue lighting. I don't know because like there are some scenes in supernatural blue lighting.

The Impact of Writing and Fanfiction

00:12:56
Speaker
No, no, no, this is different. different Twilight's a whole other level. to The entire, it's not even like the lighting. It's the filter on the camera. It's all tinted blue and it creates like this otherworldly experience. Like look up Twilight, just the movie, like look up Twilight.
00:13:18
Speaker
Just like any scene from Twilight, it's so clear. Oh, it's like a blue-green. Yeah. And it's it's the entire camera, like the entire shot. They just apply to filter over everything. Why? It's so bad.
00:13:39
Speaker
But also like so smart because it's iconic and everyone knows it. Like if you look at it, you're like, yeah, that's Twilight. It's super recognizable.
00:13:50
Speaker
So writing. if Yeah, I started writing when I was in middle school because I had this friend, I'm going to use a fake name because ah her name is Rose. but um And that's also the name she had me use in her in the novel that we were writing because we had Wattpad and I was writing.
00:14:14
Speaker
I discovered Galaga Girls in Wattpad in the same time. So that was a wild place to be. So I discovered Wattpad and ah well because like we me and my friends were writing and that's when I discovered fanfiction and then I got tired of how little Gallagher girl fanfiction there was on there. I would write so much Gallagher girls fanfiction it's not even funny. I've honestly probably read some of your writing. I swear to god I've read all of it I've read it all because I wasn't okay here's here's a deep cut for everyone.
00:14:50
Speaker
i didn't originally I didn't find fanfiction on Wattpad. I didn't start on Wattpad. I started on fanfiction.net, which is a hellscape worse yeah than Wattpad. I went from Wattpad to fanfiction dot.net.
00:15:09
Speaker
got fed up with the ads and then went to it was three and I have not left fanfiction.net is a nightmare and I would never like I literally Recent like not even recently a while ago I went back to look and be like can I find the old Gallagher girls fanfic I would read because it's good and they were great I my favorite was when it was like the girls were going to the Blackthorn school and they were like CIA already and they were like we've got to find out what's going on in Blackthorn and they'd end up in like a prank war with the guys and it was yeah but yeah fanfiction.net's a hellscape and I will never go back there yeah no I I will never go back there I
00:15:58
Speaker
I've done this thing recently where I've been going back to stuff that I remember reading when I was in high school to see how much it's changed or if it's still good. And there was this Sherlock and Molly Hooper because they were one of my favorite ships in high school. And I remember this really great story. I went back and reread it and the cringe that I was feeling. I don't know. I remember reading that like four separate times in high school.
00:16:28
Speaker
It does not stand the test of time. I went on to Vampation.net in the book section. They have them listed by how many works there are. Harry Potter has 848,000. On Vampation.net? The next one is Twilight at 222,000.
00:16:51
Speaker
And then Percy Jackson and the Olympians at 80.6,000. That is such an insane difference between those three. I know. That's wild. No one, literally no one. So let's, oh, hold on. I'm going to AO3 right now.
00:17:11
Speaker
So we're in the books. and one So, okay. One of the podcasts I listened to, Canonically incorrect, did a whole episode on like fanfiction dot.net and stuff. Um, and like Wattpad, like the history of, I think it'd be cool to just have an episode where we go through and be like, what can we find? Pride and Prejudice has 5.7 thousand. On... Lame as a Rob has 4.5 and Gallagher Girls has 4.5 on fanfiction.
00:17:41
Speaker
That's, back when I was on there, there was like barely a thousand. I like, Galaga Girls having 4,000 shocks me so much. Yeah. I just went on Books and Literature, uh, on AO3, uh, 472,000 for Harry Potter and then the next, next biggest is Star Wars and Sherlock Holmes. Wow. And they're all like, within a couple hundred thousand of each other. So it's not too big of a difference.
00:18:11
Speaker
I'm just surprised there's not that many. I love, honestly, the covers people make are so funny. I love it. i've heard yeah On everything. It's so funny. Like I'm still, I'm on famousfiction.net right now. um There is one here called New Girl.
00:18:32
Speaker
After her mom gets a new job offer, Cami finds herself moving out of her old private school in New York City to a small high school in the tiny town of Roseville. The only reason Cami is okay with it? The infuriatingly charming Zach Good is doing his best to make her feel welcome. Of course, things would be easier if Cami actually knew what she was doing. Yeah.
00:18:55
Speaker
what what's the plot whatever i don't know we should totally okay that i just had a thought while reading that because zapgood was like my first serious book boyfriend that i was obsessed with i actually have my elementary school best friend made me for I think it was either my birthday or Christmas. She got me this, it's like one of those wood letter things you find at like Michael's or something and she covered it in like pictures of like the quotes from Gallagher Girls because we were so obsessed with Zack Good and like the Gallagher Girls series because she read them too. Okay, I'm about to say something and incredibly embarrassing about my childhood.
00:19:45
Speaker
keep in mind this is a no judgment podcast okay we all do embarrassing things as a child so said friend got a boyfriend right and she thought i was jealous because i didn't have one and her boyfriend would like wrote her like a letter or two like just little notes so me and her would write jokingly like funny silly notes to each other from like her i was being zacked and like writing them to kami and giving them to her and she would write them

Community and Creativity in Fandoms

00:20:20
Speaker
from grant and give to me as bex and i got so embarrassed like i don't have them anymore because my mom went into my room at one point and i got nervous and i threw them away
00:20:33
Speaker
because I was so scared of her fighting them and being like why is this person writing to Bex about how she wants three million children like what like that's the kind of thing we would write it was so stupid but yeah za good flackered and it's really funny because I was Bex in that that situation and then in high school i would make a game i was in marching band because i'm a nerd and i would make a game of during halftime we would not halftime time we were halftime play halftime what am i thinking during the third quarter
00:21:12
Speaker
The band kids were allowed to disperse and go walk around for the third quarter and then come back for the fourth. And I would make a game of finding my friends and like hanging out with them for a little and then falling back into the crowd and just following them.
00:21:28
Speaker
and seeing how long it took for them to notice I was gone and how long it would take them to find me because I was a freak dude no in sixth grade during recess um me and my friend this is high school man this is high school well I still kind of continued it but me and my friends would make a game of who can walk the quietest and who could sneak up on each other The worst part is they didn't know. I was just doing this for fun for myself. I didn't tell them or anything. I was like, yeah, I'm just going to disappear and we'll see what happens.
00:22:02
Speaker
Yeah, no, after reading that book series for a while, I was convinced I was going to be a spy and work for this. yeah Oh, yes, I was obsessed. Dude, I love spy things between Gallica Girls, Veronica Mars and Covert Affairs. I was obsessed with being like a spy private investigator solving crimes like situation. I was obsessed. Yeah, that's kind of why I went into my field of study.
00:22:30
Speaker
was Well, it was mainly bones, but also i love bones my childhood obsession with all things ah criminal justice. But Veronica Mars literally changed my brain chemistry, I swear to God. but yeah yeah anyway I watched a couple episodes of the newer one.
00:22:52
Speaker
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Bad. Bad. So what do you have to do? I saw before I saw her husband, boyfriend, whatever die. Shut up, shut up. It never happened. It never happened. It didn't happen. No, no, no, no. We watch up until like the last minute and then we turn it off and everyone lives happily ever

Adapting Book Series and Personal Growth

00:23:10
Speaker
after. We do not talk about that ending. It did not happen. It does not exist. It was a lie by the government. I swear to God it didn't happen. That is not canon.
00:23:21
Speaker
everything else up to that is canon it's not that's not canon no but I was gonna okay two things first thing I would watch oh hold on I have watched Bones for as long as I can remember not saying much I have a really bad memory but I feel like that says a lot about how I grew up for as long as I can remember I've watched Bones And then my original point for what I remembered, what I thought of while reading that description for that fanfic. Zach Good was my original book boyfriend. I think we should do an episode where we write book boyfriends to your list.
00:24:02
Speaker
Uh, Zach is on the top. Oh, Zach is tech is S obviously Josh. Fucking lower than F. I will say that I'll make a tearless was like a special ones. He was, but he was mind wiped. So he didn't, I i don't care. He is, he sucked. Josh is, you know what? I just realized something. Josh is the Tamlin. Oh my God.
00:24:30
Speaker
No, no, no, hold on. Tamlin is Josh. Let's be real. Okay, yeah, Tamlin is Josh. yeah Josh came first. Yeah. Not literally though. Tamlin is all over that girl. yeah And this is why I'm on the podcast, folks. oh but you know Yeah, no, Josh. What was another one?
00:25:01
Speaker
Percy Jackson is also up there for book boyfriends. Yes. Actually, I read ah The King Chronicles first. I was obsessed with The King Chronicles. That was my main Egyptian phase. Yeah. Well, I but was like, for a longest time, just ah just read the PGO series. I didn't read anything else. I was like, no, I'm not going to read it. PGO? Jay.
00:25:26
Speaker
I'm Percy Jackson Olympians. Yeah, right that was all I would read. And then in middle school, like seventh grade, and my friend was ah my friend was like, Oh, you should really read it. They're really good. And that's when I started getting into Roman mythology as well. um Because the Magnus Chase ones. Yeah. Yeah. ah Well, Magnus Chase hadn't been out yet. Oh, yeah. Why are you into Roman then?
00:25:51
Speaker
Oh, the second. yeah Yeah, no, I'm, I'm stupid. I'm stupid. Nyah's Chase's Norse. I was losing my mind because I was thinking, Kate's not Roman. What's Roman? Cause I put Percy Jackson here as an Olympus. Like yeah I put them all together. They are not different things for me.
00:26:08
Speaker
I, yeah, I was like, kind of like a purist. I was like, Oh, the original series is better. He can never make anything better. And then I was like, you know what? I miss Percy Jackson. I'm going to give the Heroes of Olympus series a try. Then I proceeded to read them out of order by accident because I thought I got them all at once. I got the first three all at once at my library. And I did not check because I would assume you would start with, um, son of Neptune.
00:26:37
Speaker
because it was Percy Jackson. I mean, I think you could read the first two either interchangeably or before or after. Because they're not too crazy. Yeah, they're not too crazy. It's once you get to the later one. So it's like, you need to read them. But yeah, I made sure I after that, I made sure I read them in chronological order. But I read that one first by accident. And I was like, oh, this is actually good. And then I read the second one and I hated Jason.
00:27:05
Speaker
But I i stuck it out. That's the common thing. i It's been so long since I've read them that I don't really know why everyone hates Jason. All I know is that he ended up dying. And that Piper might be into women. Yes. I'm all for it. Also, I think now, I thought she's like now a hunter of Artemis. Oh, maybe. be and and I don't know. I haven't read. I haven't read. I'm not caught up. Yeah, I'm not caught up. i I have all of the Apollo books, but I have only read the first two.
00:27:44
Speaker
I've read the first one and then I've read the first one of the Magnus Chase. I finished Magnus Chase recently. i I between school and then like, it's hard for me to go back to like, it's so difficult because you feel like you have to start from the beginning to understand everything. And there are just so many books. Yeah, it's why I'm not caught up on Cassandra Clare. Yeah, I also honestly after like, uh, what was it? I forgot there was something that there was a reason why I stopped reading Cassandra Clare and I just cannot remember why.
00:28:23
Speaker
um but also i'm just like yeah oh i think it was after like the watching the first step of the shadow hunters and was oh my god it ruined the entire series for me dark artifices man you really should read that one though because it is so good yeah i well i have to start going back to the library but also you and taylor are like bad influence and i have so many books i have that i have to read dude You should see my room right now. There are one, two, three, four different stacks of books because I ran out of room on my shelves.
00:29:00
Speaker
um've had sport like One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve. There are two there, twelve books high. One behind that is probably at least like eight. This one um next to me is one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, o eleven, twelve. Thirteen books high. I have so many books I have to read. There's one on my desk next to me because it's the War of Two Queens by Jennifer Armentrout that I haven't finished yet. I am the The book five, right? Because I, I think it was a book before the one that's in the guy's POV. It's like the last one was real ah at the moment, because I'm like five pages, not even maybe a away from finishing it. I'm nearly like five pages from finishing this book and I haven't finished it because I know it's going to be a cliffhanger and I don't want to deal with it. Oh, no, it wasn't a cliffhanger.
00:29:57
Speaker
or It wasn't much of a cliffhanger. It's just that the next book isn't out yet and so I'm like I'm gonna wait. yeah yeah that's what Yeah that's what I'm doing. Because the next book after it is only in hardcover right now and I have all of them in paperback so I have to wait for that one to be in paperback and it's really annoying.
00:30:17
Speaker
That's why I'm glad I bought it in ebook format. I'm so annoyed. First of all, why is it that we have done this thing where new books are in hardback only for like the first year? What the heck? Why can't we release hardback and paper at the same time? That's my thing. Cause like, um, one of my favorite authors, October, oh my God, that's the name of her and character. Uh, what was it?
00:30:46
Speaker
Shawna McGuire, I don't know if any and if you've read any of her books, but she's really really I really love her book series, the October Day series. She's also done um another one where she they come in sometimes, it's like a mention, but because they're all in the same universe. But it's urban fantasy, and the main character is like half fae, and it's like it's it's really good. I really like the world building. It's also just like It's it's warm and cozy. It's like one of those books where you just want to curl up. Oh my goodness. The other day I was looking for a show to watch. And I was like, I just want something happy and cozy and just nice. I was messaging yesterday about it and I was like, I just want a nice cozy show and he's like recommending like um
00:31:32
Speaker
has been hotel and i'm like ah no i know good shows but you're not cozy they are not what i'm looking for bro that that's your like it's good i love it it wrecks me for a little bit like i he kept recommending things i was like i know these shows are good i am aware that they are good They are not the vibe right now. i know I love you, but you're wrong right now, please. well okay if you Okay, it's not a TV show. But if you're looking for something cozy to watch practical magic ah with Sandra Bullock and ah Nicole Kidman ultimate cozy show. It's about two sisters that are witches and they have a generational curse about ah relating to their love lives. And it's amazing. It's
00:32:18
Speaker
I've been watching this since I was a young child. Me and my mom adore it. It's ultimate cozy. you can i We prefer to watch it in the summer slash um Halloween because witches.
00:32:31
Speaker
Yeah. Um, but also Halloween starts really early in our house. Like when we get back from vacation. Definitely. and duck we're already decorate As soon as September hits, even August, bro. I would literally go back to school shopping at Spirit Halloween. That's where I would get my wardrobe for school.
00:32:50
Speaker
not even kidding i'm obsessed so me and my mom uh it's already decided that the week we get back from vacation we are already getting our halloween decorations out and this week we there's this uh store i don't know if they have it in tennessee it's called hum goods and they already have their halloween stuff out and we've got home goods did you seriously just question if home goods since home goods is everywhere dude oh feel like a hobby lobby yeah we've only like been there like twice it's everywhere dude i'm pretty sure home goods is iconic okay i don't know i again barely go shopping i'm the one from like a small town in the middle of nowhere what is this that you don't know home goods is everybody
00:33:35
Speaker
ah dude Bro, yeah i was I graduated out of a hundred people. I think I beat you. Yeah. Okay. Wait, I graduated out way more. Yeah. There were a hundred people in my graduating class. 700 for me. Yeah. Oh yeah. Yeah. My town has less than, it's like either, it's like just above 4,000 people. Uh, we had, when I was graduating the population for my school was 5,000.
00:34:05
Speaker
Not for my school, for my home town. Yeah, no. my yeah i We had that several um towns that would go to my school because, you know. Yeah. Northern Virginia. we This was just a media area, but we live on the house. Do schools normally only serve one town?
00:34:27
Speaker
I don't know. That's like a deal. Generally, it's just me because, like, I grew up in such a small area. its Like I hear people were like, yeah, it's just like one town, this school, we had so many people. I'm like, your school only does one town. We had four. There were towns worth of kids that I graduated with.
00:34:53
Speaker
oh that's all we we had the only thing we could do small town people will relate to this we had two places you could go if you wanted to go out ah for a day and like go out and hang out with friends or whatever you had two places you could hang out walmart ah like 20 20 to 30 minutes away in one direction. And then there was a Walmart in ah the opposite direction, like 20, 30 minutes away that you can go and hang out there too. There were two Walmarts. That's where you can hang out pretty much.
00:35:31
Speaker
And we had a McDonald's like right down the road from our school, which was sick because during like AP tests, we would just go in for the AP test. So then we could go home right away. And that was how that ran. So we would go to me. I would pick up my sister. We would go to McDonald's, get breakfast, sit in the parking lot and eat, and then go in for our AP exam. It was sick, dude. Yeah. We, yeah. We.
00:35:59
Speaker
At our high school, it's like right across from a highway and I lived on the highway. We live on a highway. Like we have the highway and then we have our, like the main road and then we have the subdivisions. But like the closest, like there's no McDonald's or anything. The closest food that we had was either a Domino's this burger joint and that's since gone out of business. Cause I think it turned out that it was like a front or something.
00:36:27
Speaker
like or like the entire thing was like corrupt like the entire business it was like bergrim or something i can't remember and then um there apparently the year i moved here there was something called deja-brew and i'm still salty because that sounds like an amazing coffee spot but now ah john it We have a giant, which I don't know if you guys have those. It's like a grocery store, but bougie. I'm familiar with giant. We had those. That was like when you were we would go out of our way and we had to go to Lowe's. We would go to giant because they were across from each other.
00:37:02
Speaker
Yeah. um But we had and we have a Starbucks in there, so that's literally it. The rest was just like, hair air oh, and this would look like a really good pizza place. But besides that, there's like not much to do. Whenever we would make a trip to Target, which would be a far trip growing up, my mom was always so excited for the Starbucks. Because going to Target means you can get a little Starbucks. And they were not close at all.
00:37:31
Speaker
it was actually like a pretty hard like to drive to a mall it was minimum like an hour yeah for a mall it was rough growing up in the middle of nowhere but yeah yeah I was gonna say something and then I forgot yeah it was still like an hour for us to well cuz like again traffic in Northern Virginia is no joke and it's still like an hour sometimes for us to go anywhere like a mall or anything points to the good malls me and my sister and her little brother at one point it it was like we were looking for graduation dresses and so we went to and it was um crispy cream was doing like a if you're graduating you can come in and get a free dozen donuts or whatever yeah a free dozen donuts for graduating students so i drove us all down there it was just me her and her brother
00:38:30
Speaker
ah And we were driving a Scranton, which was far. It was like two hours, two and a half hours, I think, to drive there. I don't remember, but I think that's roughly correct. So that was a rough trip just because like I was still a newer driver at that point. I didn't get my license until I was, I think, 17.
00:38:54
Speaker
Just before I didn't get mine until I was 20 21. Yeah. Well for me it was I had an uncle who um had a like a Used car that he was trying to sell and so my mom talked to him like hey She's gonna be getting her license soon. Can we buy this car for you? So I got a car for cheap um and then I For I was obviously taking the bus to school, which for me is wild that like in like the UK Yes, it's talked about this I think of like they don't do buses or whatever that like he would walk to school wild.
00:39:35
Speaker
yeah i mean i could walk to school because i'm literally less than a mile from my school yeah i mean i was not far from my school but it was in the middle of the woods on a highway so yeah my mom didn't like it when we walked because it's crossing the highway yeah so anyway i would Uh, I was on the bus and on that bus was a person who abused me for two years that I had to see every single day, which wasn't great for my mental health. I'll tell you that much. So I was like desperate. I was like, I need to get my license. I need to not be on this bus anymore, or I'm going to lose it. So yeah, I ended up getting my license pretty early at 17.
00:40:23
Speaker
because I failed twice. The second time though was not my fault. It was right after like a snowstorm had come in and the guy didn't want to go go on the road with like possible ice. So he just failed me at parallel parking even though he shouldn't have.
00:40:43
Speaker
because he didn't want to go on the road, which was so annoying. I cried. But yeah, so I drove us down to Scranton and it was so far away. And that was to go to a mall too. Like we're like, we'll

Fanfiction as Creative Expression

00:40:57
Speaker
get our donuts and we'll go to a mall and we'll look for graduation dresses and stuff.
00:41:02
Speaker
yeah ah I am looking, I still have fanfiction dot.net pulled up on my other monitor. yeah And I gotta read you this fanfic description because I'm honestly interested and I might read it. I also have, before you say that, ah because let's end on a good note, I was on AO3 and uncategorized fandoms, ah but there is a Trump ex-user. No.
00:41:29
Speaker
No, you have to find Trump ex Biden. That's where the good stuff is. That's where the good stuff is, man. I swear to you, that is where it is.
00:41:41
Speaker
The amount of TikToks I've seen joking about Trump and Biden and how now that Biden dropped out, we're not going to be getting the good the good tea and the good stuff to inspire more fanfics is so sad. Yeah. But yeah, so this fic that I saw, and I just like read it um because it's right in my eyesight, if you can, by Kamie Morgan,
00:42:06
Speaker
in Cameron Morgan is part of the most successful team of special agents the world has ever seen. Zachary Good is part of the Blackthorn Boys. A group of assassins that, according to records, do not exist. They both have a mission. It's an epic game of cat and mouse. Dot, dot, dot. Catch me if you can. Dot, dot, dot. Zammy. I love the Zammy at the end.
00:42:32
Speaker
I do. Honestly, it's suspense slash romance, 48 chapters, 122,000 words, almost so 123. And updated, last updated, March 4th, 2023. Bro, these people still write in. Yeah. Honestly, it's interesting. I might read it. Yeah. Yeah. I might, I might look it up, but yeah.
00:43:01
Speaker
but it's on fanfiction.net, which isn't good enough. No, it's not. I remember when everyone was like doing the maths exodus from fanfiction.net because ah they got bought out by a different company that didn't like certain stuff on there, so they just like started leaving. But yeah, anyways.
00:43:24
Speaker
I love the shortenings too. Like, sit after L-O-I-K-Y, love you, kill you. Oh my goodness. Most recent, updated, February 14th. Ooh! These people are still writing, dude. I, honestly, props to them. This is a, this is a fandom that you really gotta hold on your back.
00:43:46
Speaker
It is. It's because it's so underrated. I kind of wish they would do a really good TV show. Mm hmm. But yeah i so if they made a Gallagher girls TV show, I think I might die. I think I would pass away. If it was on that enough. Amazon Prime.
00:44:03
Speaker
Yeah, they actually did really good. Prime's been doing fantastic dick adaptations. I will say though, the Percy Jackson adaptation that Disney plus did was really good. That was good, but that's because Rick's in on it. Yeah, that's why that's why I want, because like that was my next stipulation, I like how he has to be on be in on it. Because like Disney I think already owns the rights because they publish the books. Oh yeah.
00:44:29
Speaker
so Disney, come on. Please. yeah please i have I'm too old to be any of the girls. but i can I can be a teacher. I can be an extra. Please. Listen, Disney. I've got the face of a child. I'm not even kidding. I look 12, especially when I cut my hair. I could be Bex. I could do it.
00:44:52
Speaker
I don't have a British accent, but my boyfriend is British. I'm sure he could teach me. I've got it. Guys, come on. Come on. Also, there is a description I need to read to you for this one thing because it's it's destroyed my brain.
00:45:10
Speaker
When Kami's grandmother dies, the responsibilities that her generation could not fulfill falls to her. No commas, just one full sentence. The fic is called the Myths of Wolves. What? Uh-oh. That's it, dude. Omegaverse cannot get into Galaga Girls. Those are two that could never, combined never, Ever. Oh my god. Wait.
00:45:40
Speaker
So I went on AO3 because um there's only 171 works in the Gallagher Girl series, but they're still updating as of July 15th. That was the most recent. And there was one on July 2nd by someone called the name Blackthorn Babe. Yes, Slay. Also, that fic, three chapters, 800 words, almost 900 updated July 20th, 2021.
00:46:12
Speaker
Oh my, god this is a good, okay. Get ready for this. Prepare yourself. Have Too Many Secrets by Singin' Joy, book one of Good's New Generation. 15 years later, Cameron Morgan has been missing for 15 years now.
00:46:31
Speaker
After 15 years of questions to where Kami Morgan went and why she left, the Good family have two girls, Victoria Goode and Isabel Goode, come to the Gallagher Institute's feet and they start to answer all the questions they've been asking for too long. What? First of all, grammar is confusing. I think she's been missing for 15 years. Four chapters, 7,000 words.
00:47:02
Speaker
Mystery Romance. Here's one. ah It's not completed, but it was updated March 31st, 2024. Mr. Mrs. Morgan. You didn't think Cameron would change her name now, did you? And Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a with Zach and Cam, it's a shameless way for me to rewrite for rewrite the movie and indulge myself with all the different spy tropes in that beautiful, beautiful movie. And um here's one of the tags. Starts with couple therapy, ends with a danger bank.
00:47:34
Speaker
Bro. Oh my god. Okay, okay. The person who did the wolf one, they have two more that I can see right now. Also the covers are all the same. This blue wolf on one side, red wolf on the other, and purple in the middle. Bye pride.
00:47:49
Speaker
But best friends at a rockstar, Cammie Morgan suffered abuse until a neighbor with green eyes and annoying smirk entered her life. That green eyed hero sees Cammie again, but does he remember her? And then the pickpocket run away. Stealing was her league, running was her game. Again, no commas. Game is capitalized.
00:48:10
Speaker
Cameron Morgan was abandoned with her abusive father not being able to stand him. She runs away. Once she meets a green-eyed stranger, he changes her life and the expectations she had of life. Again, one calm at that time. That's it. Not where you would think it is.
00:48:28
Speaker
why this person i I love the vibe I love the energy learn commas please yeah I'm sorry if you are not an English speaker but commas please you're writing in English I found the parody thick um it's called a bumpy plane ride And, um, parody. Do you remember the experience of browsing fanfictions and coming across the most horrendous lemon whose author could have been no older than 13? That is the true essence of this. That's just the experience of reading fanfiction, though. 4A and Fix that were originally for the group chat. Everybody clapped. Clapped. Parody. Everybody clapped. And grammar um then Harry Styles, 3-4.
00:49:19
Speaker
No. Not Harry Styles. Not Harry Styles. What is this? After? I know, right? But okay. No, this is, that was peak Wattpad. Yes. My friend my friend- No, no. You know what was peak Wattpad? Magcon.
00:49:35
Speaker
I didn't have a clue who those people were. I didn't watch any of their content. It was like a Vine thing. But boy, did I read those fan fictions. I ate them up because I didn't know the people. And so while they were technically like real person fics, I didn't know who they were. So for me, they were just characters because I didn't know them. So I would just read them like, who's going to adopt me this time?
00:50:04
Speaker
but I would not read um your name fix. I didn't even like when I would stumble upon one and read it not like I would started not realizing I would just in my head like be like oh yin that was the girl's name it wasn't me a character named yin because it's your name yeah I know people who can actually submit their like switch out and put their name there like mentally are another level I can't I could never, I, they, those were the worst. I, I, to this day, anytime I see your name, fake I immediately scroll past it. It doesn't matter if the plot seems absolutely amazing. Yeah, like no hate to people who like it. It's just not my thing. Personally. But I, this is excellent. Honestly, this is the only good spelling mistake I will accept.
00:50:58
Speaker
Zach Good is already having a crummy day when the news new girl shows up and steals his seat in homeroom. Oh my god. They meant to say crummy.
00:51:10
Speaker
they which is spelled C ah-R-U-M-M-Y. They spelled C-R-U-M-B-Y like crumb E. Zach is determined to tell this new student off, but the confrontation doesn't exactly go as planned. And now Zach can't stop thinking about this girl, but the new girl is evasive and secretive. So Zach does what any smitten troublemaker would do. He plans to learn her secrets.
00:51:38
Speaker
That doesn't sound horrible. It is. That is honestly not going to like giving, um... I just love steals a seat in homeroom exclamation point. That is giving a lot. I love it. It's giving. But it's six chapters, 20,000 words. Kind of slay. Yeah. That's not bad. That's not bad.
00:52:07
Speaker
That's like a little bit over... Oh my god, am I falling back down the fanfic hole? Help me! ah za you were ninety nine Please help me find this book! honey Okay, so honestly, I've been stuck on- since I've graduated, and I have been stuck on fanfiction, mainly Baldur's Gate fanfiction. Shocker! Oh, it's not my fault they're good! And it's not- I like- I actually only just started getting back into reading yesterday. I finished this one book ah because on our way to the hiking spot, there was like a period of no wifi. So what I did was I read one of my Kindle unlimited books I had downloaded. And I was like, Oh, that's actually nice to read something that's not the same thing. Yeah. and But I haven't picked up another book today. Great.
00:53:05
Speaker
yeah I think I've got the winner here. All good things come to an end. I'm sure you can assume the spelling of good. Which I love. I love when they make puns out of his name because it's perfect. You know what's funny? Is that in like, I remember Wap had fixed it. Even if it was just like one random word for good, would oh it would like, just oh that's good. They would always put the E at the end. That's insane. Anyway, here's here's the blurb. Prepare yourself. This this is this is something.
00:53:38
Speaker
And I'm like all for it, I might read it. It takes a skilled pavement artist to blend into a crowd in a wedding dress. Running down the street in the middle of November in a big floppy dress didn't necessarily yell blend. It may be my wedding day, but my mission was not saying I do. It's finding my missing groom. The rumors surrounding Zach's disappearance makes make me wonder what this Blackthorn boy has got himself into.
00:54:10
Speaker
That's wild and I love it. I do. That is amazing.
00:54:19
Speaker
It's just one kiss. To finally calm this tension between us so we can stop arguing and fighting all the time. Maybe we'll even become real friends. It's just one kiss, Zach. But that was such a lie. Whatever this was, whatever we were, whatever we just did, it was way more than just one kiss. What did they do? Full summary inside. Inside what? He's he's inside?
00:54:47
Speaker
Oh, oh my God. Um, sorry, I was going through Percy Jackson and there's a million word fanfiction, 212 chapters. Oh my God. That, that thick, I just read the description for is 18 chapters, 64,000 words. Oh my God. And it's complete bro. Yeah, this is complete too.
00:55:13
Speaker
bookmark it um and send it to me please you got it but ah this one is swimming in the river stinks Sticks, not stinks, sticks, to gain immensibility to fight the titan lord of time was weird. Gaining your memory wiped by a goddess of marriage and family and family in a gambit to unite Greek and Roman demigods was weird. Having a spiritual attachment to blue food was, well, completely understandable no matter how much Leo joked about it, but this this is weird.
00:55:46
Speaker
when a bat When a battle goes wrong and magic goes wild, the son of Poseidon and hero of Olympus find themselves dumped into a world that seems strangely familiar. The Greek gods are still around. The old myths are really true. All seems well. But one thing has changed. The people he's come to love. And it doesn't take long for him to figure out that these new faces all miss These figure out that these new faces all miss someone one else too. Hero of Olympus and daughter Poseidon, Percy, like P-E-R-C-I-E Jackson, is a gender bent Percy Jackson. Sly. Okay, send it to me, honestly. Yeah. um This full summary is insane. Okay, so whatever this is, whatever we were, whatever we just did, it was way more than just one kiss.
00:56:32
Speaker
When Zach moved to Roseville freshman year, he promised his cousin he wouldn't get involved with any of her friends. Which one's his cousin? That's the first question we'll need to answer after I finish this. Which one do we think is his cousin?
00:56:45
Speaker
But she felt better and to say they're off limits because everyone knows that makes them all the more tempting. Not like Kami needed help being just that. She was sweet, innocent, and gosh darn beautiful, but she made a promise too. And in the end, she had to honor her best friend's wishes.
00:57:04
Speaker
Three years later, the two still can't stand each other, constantly fighting and getting on each other's nerves. It looked like Cammie and Zach would never get along, until they came up with an idea that might just save their friendship. Boundaries are pushed, secrets are formed, and promises are broken, all to save a friendship that may already be damaged beyond repair. Rated T for language dot dot dot, but that may have to be changed to M dot dot dot. Whoops.
00:57:33
Speaker
don't whoops that's so for that's so real of you honestly yeah i'm saying it's macy my guess was bex hmm i feel like they give cousin energy no because bex and zack give i don't know it might just be miss remembering but i always thought they gave like uh sibling energy fair honestly no no ally carter is wrong for what she did in the what is second but last second to last book or last book when Kami runs away and Cam and Bex are looking for her and it's like hinted at like oh they got closer like maybe they're together. That was so wrong of her. I read that and I was i immediately went on to Goodreads and said i I was really mean to Bex and then it got better.
00:58:33
Speaker
Cause I was like, no, you know, you your friend loves, um why would you do that? yeah You were right. It's Macy. God dang it.
00:58:47
Speaker
Okay. Bex and Zach give cousin or sibling vibe. Zach and Macy give cousin. And then I don't know. Liz kind of also gives like younger sister vibes. Yes.
00:59:02
Speaker
Also, I love how in the fandom, when everyone started writing like a fanfic, everyone just like, someone decided on the last name for all the guys and like the pairing, like the the last name of like Grant, Jonas, and um Preston, and well, I think Preston had one, but like Zach and yeah Jonas and Grant, everyone went, yeah, that's their last name, and everyone just started using it. And I love that. Until I reread the books and I was like,
00:59:30
Speaker
Wait, we don't ever learn their last names? I thought we did. Yeah, no. I read a Tumblr post a while back that pointed that out, and I was like, oh, yeah. And then I reread the books and was like, yeah. Yeah. And then it's never implied that Grant or Joanna's get-together there was i so like, I was like, oh, we really just head-cannoned that so hard, and we came cannon.
00:59:59
Speaker
Yeah, no, I was like, that's my favorite thing is when fandom becomes so widely popular that it's pretty much canon. Yeah, it's honestly awesome. And I just feel like it shows like the strength of community.
01:00:12
Speaker
yeah no that like i was I am like the biggest like supporter of fandom because it's is a way everyone can like interact and it's just like a one big community. It's so important too. It is. ah I've got another great one for you. Two years by so many letters. It has been two years since Zach broke up with Kami. First of all, he would never.
01:00:43
Speaker
No, he wouldn't. Second of all, if they broke up, it would be her breaking down. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, in that time, they moved on. They changed. Zach grew, met a girl, and proposed, but never fully moved on. Why are you engaged then? OK. Kami grew too. She met a guy, broke up with a guy, and became one of the most beautiful women alive. She already was. OK.
01:01:12
Speaker
When they meet again, will Zach stay with his fiance? Or will he fall for Kami again? Bro, why are you engaged? Someone tells me they already written that. Yeah. Yeah. They're getting back together. I hate it when people do that. Yeah. Why would... No. I hate it. I'm sorry. I love power to the creatives. But that that's just too messy for me. And I don't like it. Because like why are you getting engaged when you have feelings for your ex? It's giving Colin.
01:01:42
Speaker
Season three. Kind, yes. Kinda. I mean, he didn't have feelings until after they kissed, but... Don't get me started on season three. Honestly, again, it was rough. I have even... Like, Bird Your Gen used to be one of my favorite places to go to read fanfiction, and I haven't touched it since season three. Oh my god.
01:02:07
Speaker
Dude, okay. Fanfiction.net did me dirty. They have their filters automatically on ratings. Uh, hold on. Rating of K to T. No idea what those are. Uh, so they don't include mature. and t Teenager. Yeah, but they don't have mature. So I just updated the filters. First, FIC. Updated July 1st. Bro.
01:02:36
Speaker
37,000 words with eight chapters. um canny meet It's a ah dangerous game rewrite. Kami meets a certain green-eyed partner. They have a dangerous mission to complete. Operation takedown. Threatening notes are found. Secrets are revealed. Travel with Kami and the gang to find out. Oh my God. And the next one after that is a dangerous game, the original. 29 chapters, 70,000 words.
01:03:05
Speaker
so They're pretty far in. Eight chapters and they've already got almost four.
01:03:13
Speaker
foots Sometimes fanfiction authors scare me because 4,700... What was I just saying? 474,000 words. 94 chapters. Some people are crazy, dude.
01:03:37
Speaker
High school story AU, Percibeth.
01:03:43
Speaker
And I can't even write 50,000 words or without struggling, man. Kami and Zach take on life with four children enrolled at Gallagher. Goddamn. They got busy. They used to think they had faced it all, but even 12 years later, parenthood still takes them by surprise every day. Okay, that sounds cute. Yeah, that's adorable.
01:04:08
Speaker
one give me a different book series because if we want to stick with Ali Carter I'll fall down that series was good yeah I thought I have to finish that one I am like halfway through the maximum ride series and then I stopped reading it because I'd like read a book a day and got to burn out there's only 13 maximum ride and that's the row
01:04:39
Speaker
Embassy Row, first of all. Oh, Embassy. Second of all. Again, Emily, I'm not a speaker. Hold on. I need to look now. Okay, honestly, though, I have a, I have no idea. Oh, wait, is that who I think it is? Heck yeah. There's 18 words in high society. Emma has 394 on this. Ella Enchanted has 503.
01:05:07
Speaker
Embassy Row, Ollie Carter, 29, get rekt. Have you read The Hunger Games? Yeah. Have I read The Hunger Games? Who has it? I mean, I haven't read the last one. i And I've only read halfway through the second book. You're crazy. I would not like the fake baby trope.
01:05:27
Speaker
I literally, I had a loft bed and I brush i got that to that part. That was such a power move though, dude. I was still shipping Gale and Katniss. What is wrong with you? Again, it was before he was bad and I... He was always bad though.
01:05:47
Speaker
You've seen the prize in fiction. He couldn't live anymore. She had been irreversibly changed and traumatized. He was from before. PETA is after. Yeah. After she, as soon as she entered the Hunger Games, that's when Gail no longer becomes an option. Before then, yeah, he was good. But after? No. I, again,
01:06:15
Speaker
Life the child at the time. I like the childhood best friends or friends trope and I was salty and also I was like That was in the series. You should read out as a fourth grader. I was a fourth grader great wasn't I was in 7th grade I great And that was when the last movies were coming out. Oh, yeah, I can't 2012. That's one movie I was okay, I was actually maybe like fifth or sixth grade. Either way, that's not I honestly don't think that was a book series you should be reading before you're like, if it's it heavy, it is heavy, especially the later ones. Because like, I again, I didn't read it. And I had like a vendetta against it. Um,
01:07:06
Speaker
Because I was like and I like I yeah like it was a struggle for me to get through it anyways um But I was only reading it because I wanted to watch the movies and my dad was like oh you have to watch read the books before you watch the movies because they were not going to spend like I Forgot how much it was for tickets back then probably convinced of um on a movie that I wouldn't like so they wanted me to read the books and Yeah, that was none of the book series. Yeah, that was none of the book series you should watch or read as a child.
01:07:45
Speaker
Okay, this is a wild blurb. This is for Embassy Row. Grace Blakely has been gone from Adria for five years. The cause is her mother died. She doesn't believe the case of her mother's death.
01:08:01
Speaker
but she can't really dwell on it when everyone is on edge in Adria when she comes back. There's a mafia, capitalized, preference, presence in Adria, and someone close to Grace is about to become leader. What will happen when their paths cross more than they want to believe? Wild. Oh my god. I had thought of something about the Hunger Games and then I totally forgot. Oh!
01:08:25

This is the best piece of fanfiction I've ever read. And it's a Bible, no less. It's godly, a masterpiece. Almost brought me tears, crying and laughing at the twists and turns along the way. I give this work a 10 out of 10 and can't help but hope that you'll continue to publish amazing and heartfelt stories like this in the future. I really like fanfiction. Yeah. um There's a Christian Bible multi-fandom Hasburn Hotel.
01:24:35
Speaker
where it's Lucifer slash Michael. And one of the thing is no real breeding dot dot dot question mark. Who knows smiley face. I didn't even update the filters to include mature. I'm such an idiot. ah Apply mature only.
01:24:57
Speaker
Why do so many people write Bible fanfiction just to spout their atheist views? That's like a Ku Klux Klan member directing an episode of Family Matters just to show that he hates black people. What? Hurt, comfort, tragedy. One chapter, 2,000 words. I'm not even... No. I'm losing my mind.
01:25:26
Speaker
I'm losing my mind over this one. I don't want Hitler a romance Adolf Hitler travels back in time and meets a man who will change his life forever Jesus. Oh my god. Wait, I just saw something cuz it reminds me of to send it it was Cinderella um But it reminded me of descendants and You know how there's a new one, right?
01:25:52
Speaker
Hold on, I just need to read you this a little bit. I have two. Right after another. Crazy. Peace be upon him. Muhammad and Jesus. Period. Smut. Jesus, that's kinky. Jesus is about to die, but wants to have a little fun first. Contains blood, pain, sex, and death. Emorated for a reason.
01:26:15
Speaker
Okay, continue. so and So you know how there's a new Descendants movie out, right? um So I was talking to my sister because my sister is obsessed with this and I haven't watched it because I wasn't really going to watch it anyways because it doesn't have anyone from the main cast. Same. That's why I'm not watching it. I might watch it because it sounds absolutely genuinely horrible.
01:26:44
Speaker
um so first off to be fair the last movie was not good in there yeah the fourth one the one that just the third the third one oh no the third one's good i didn't like it it was okay but no i'm talking about the fourth one the one that just came out like a couple weeks ago yeah yeah i i just don't i didn't love the third one either Yeah, it was okay. It wasn't my favorite. i I like the music. The music was good and it introduced Hades. and Yeah, I like the music. I didn't love the plot. Yeah, the plot was meh. I didn't like the plot, but it I like the music and that's mainly what I was listening for because
01:27:20
Speaker
Honestly, sometimes Disney's music it is a bop for the kid shows. But anyways, I was talking to my sister about this because i was like ah because she started playing one of the new songs. I was like, oh, this is actually pretty good. She's like, oh, well, you should watch a TV show i was like or the movie. And I was like, no, I'm not going to because I was watching it when you were there. And I still can't get over that. They had young Hades. He went to school because it's the whole thing is they go back in time when um ah what?
01:27:49
Speaker
Yeah, no, although the villains and the the parents went to high school together. Right? No. Hades and Maleficent were genuinely in love. I always thought it was just like a one night stand or whatever. No. Maleficent was the quiet timid girl in high school and just Hades followed her around. I had in my hands right now. I'm not even kidding. Yeah. And I was just like, what? That makes no sense.
01:28:21
Speaker
It totes so many plot holes, especially with the first movie. Oh my god. It's implied that she still goes back and kills Aurora, but that also means it's what? And then...
01:28:36
Speaker
I don't then apparently after the divorce Hades or that's when um Maleficent like blows up after the divorce yeah because they got a divorce apparently but like also this entire song um that she that ah Hades and Mal has in the second or the third movie implies that her mother was all the problem in the relationship but I don't understand I don't understand and now I need to watch it to understand and I'm living. I'm losing my mind.

01:32:29
Speaker
Where does Miranda Cosgrove come in?
01:32:35
Speaker
Is she the kid? Maybe. Oh my god. Reaching climax, sequel of sorts, emirated thing to, oh crap I'm pregnant. Jesus has agreed to sleep with Nicolas Cage, but will his husband Satan catch him in the act?
01:32:57
Speaker
Scenes that will make male readers cringe and just why the hell did I do this? Maybe I should just go back to reading normal books.
01:33:08
Speaker
Why people? Why? That's all I have to ask. Why? Satan was displeased with Adam and Eve and plain vanilla sex. How are they supposed to horrify and sicken the Lord if he didn't invent cake?
01:33:32
Speaker
Um, again, I always think I've read or seen the works that AO3 has to offer. And then fanfiction dot.net comes up with a metal chair. Um, I mean, this is worse. Have you ever heard us closing, uh, gidined doors? Jesus and Judas slash pairing.

01:34:57
Speaker
Bye. But Hyman i chapter one, my god Genesis. No. Okay. Okay. Get ready. Strap in.
01:35:21
Speaker
One day in heaven, God was feeling very horny. He was too tired to masturbate, though. Hmm, thought God. What a predicament. Then it struck him. He was all-powerful. He didn't have to manually get himself off. He could make a sex slave. So then God went down to the earth.
01:35:39
Speaker
and tried to find a good woman to bear an offspring. He went to a stable. Suddenly, Mary was there. Her husband Joseph had left. Perfect, thought God. A young defenseless virgin girl, she will make a good child-bearer. And God went down and, Mary, if you tell anyone, I'll kill you, God muttered to her.
01:36:02
Speaker
Mary nodded, terrified. Nine months later, a baby Jesus was born. God came down to claim him. My son said, God, you will grow up for great things. You are indeed very sexy. Perfect. Then God killed Mary because she was a dirty whore. God couldn't have sex with baby Jesus. So he left him on the earth until he was grown up.
01:36:30
Speaker
Twenty years later, Jesus had grown up. He had done many good things in the world, like killing the Romans and leading the Jews through the Red Sea. God found this to turn on. God came down for Jesus one day whilst so Jesus was being baptized. John the Baptizer had left to go buy some beer, and Jesus was left alone naked in the pool.
01:37:02
Speaker
He had a six-pack, some chest hair, and a manly stubble. God crept up silently behind him naked. Jesus said, God. Jesus jumped, but didn't turn a around. Who is this? He asked tentatively. Your daddy. God reached down under the water to feel Jesus' ass.
01:37:32
Speaker
Oh my god. It was firm and smooth.
01:37:39
Speaker
ah red Red flag, no. I'm sorry. I'm dying. No, no, okay. We need to finish this paragraph. I am having a crisis. No, we need to pray we need to finish this paragraph because it it gets crazier. Jesus was a bit scared but also a bit turned on.
01:37:59
Speaker
He turned around and faced God. God stood there proudly with his 12 inch penis waving in the wind. Hello son, he said sexily.
01:38:14
Speaker
It only gets worse. I am concerned for people. Oh my God.
01:38:27
Speaker
Take it like a man, son. I am... I'm... I'm losing my mind. My ears cannot unhear that. I haven't even read majority of- Oh. Dude, this person, the the author, published this in 2010.
01:38:59
Speaker
I love how someone, but one comment was, wouldn't this be incest since God is Jesus's father? Like what? As if that cares. As if that matters. As if that's, that's part of this at all. It's already a messed up, bruh. Yeah. Like I don't think you need to be getting into the details of this Jesus X God fic.
01:39:20
Speaker
okay no this is crazy why did you do this all i can see is how humanity has fell so deep we do not respect each other's religion if you do not believe in god it's okay but you have to respect i Am sorry for you. and I hope that one day you find God and you can really change your mind and your soul Again, I am sorry for you. Just don't tell me I didn't warn you You will see why You're in the wrong place buddy
01:39:59
Speaker
Also, if you're so I'm interested in this person's logic, if you are so religious and you are not okay with something like this, why did you click on a thing called God X Jesus with the description that it had of God's horny? Why would you click on this and then review it?

Concluding Thoughts on Fandoms and Humor

01:40:28
Speaker
Okay. I think that's enough for my faith in humanity dying.
01:40:36
Speaker
So that's why we got into writing. Yeah. Um, I was going to say, I was looking up at the stats for Baldur's Gate. Yeah, go ahead. Um, you don't know, who has the most, um, stuff written about them. Yeah.
01:40:57
Speaker
And then Tab and Gail and then Shadowheart. They're doing Shadowheart dirty. That's my life, dude. Why don't people love my wife more? Because she's kind of scary, not gonna lie. That's what makes her hot. um But there are 661 works for Lazell and Shadowheart.
01:41:20
Speaker
yeah You don't ship it? No. But enemies to lovers. Still. Honestly, that is low. I have low key ship them though. It's cute. God and Jesus.
01:41:41
Speaker
Lazell and Really? I thought you didn't like it. So yeah, that is what cut us into writing. Yeah.
01:41:52
Speaker
We totally talked about that for a significant amount of the majority of this episode, totally. Yeah, totally. A little bit of going off the rails at the end there. I have no faith in humanity anymore. Yeah. I mean, I didn't already, but- I mean, I would never be able to remove those words from my brain.
01:42:20
Speaker
I will never be able to unhear them. Yeah, they are burned into my retinas.
01:42:28
Speaker
So have a good day everyone.
