Daily Bible Reading with Robin at In the Family Way Coaching (Audio only)

Today we will be reading about Moses' lack of confidence in what God is  going to do by bringing the Jewish people out of Egypt. We will see that  despite the fact that God has told Moses that it isn't going to just  happen without any difficulties, it will happen with MANY difficulties,  Moses is not convinced that God is going to get the job done! Take  heart, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ! The glory belongs to GOD,  not to Moses, not to Aaron, not to US. It is not because of US that  things will happen. God uses what we do for Him, but ultimately the  glory of EVERYTHING we are doing is to be God's glory; not our own! Join  me as we read Exodus 5-7 today.

If you would like to join me LIVE for the daily reading you can register  to attend the event on my site, here:  https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/schedule

Registration for the live event is a tiered pricing event, so you are  not required to pay to attend, only if you feel led. If you do feel led  to support this event with either a paid live registration or a monthly  membership I will give back to YOU by sending you printed copy of the  monthly calendar on sugar cane paper as well as a set of stickers for  the month to keep track of your daily commitment to read the Bible with  me every day.   Memberships to support this event can be purchased on my site, here: https://www.inthefamilywaycoaching.com/offering_packages

00:00:42
Speaker
And I like to count your family, Julie, as five because there are four in you. ah So all six of you, because you kids are important too, you're a part of of God's plan for us here. And I appreciate that you guys even ah watched the ah the longer portion of yesterday's video. And I didn't expect the kids to be able to sit through that after I ah got through with that. But I'm so thankful that that you felt led to do so.
00:01:11
Speaker
and And thank you for your encouragement ah with the lack of editing. So I ah just wanted to be sure and start our day off with that.

Calendar & Membership Information

00:01:23
Speaker
Well, we are here and I have my calendar out. I have marked off my calendar. Look how close we are. No, Scoopy's nose is so pushy today. Look how close we are to the end of the month. We have one, two, three.
00:01:37
Speaker
four, five, six, seven, eight, nine more days. And we will have finished an entire month. That is one 12th of the year. That is nothing to sneeze at. That is no small achievement. So good job to everybody here.
00:01:54
Speaker
And if there's anybody watching who has not seen these videos before, I want you to know that that calendar is available for download on my website at inthefamilywaycoaching.com. And I will have a link in the comment or in the description section below so that you can find that. I think on YouTube my links are not complete. So that's why I want to be sure and let you know that um It is in the familywaycoaching.com and it's under daily Bible reading. That's where the calendar is located. And I have that there for anybody and everybody to download. And of course, as we get closer to February, I'll get the February calendar up there, but we're still in January, so.
00:02:37
Speaker
I have a little more time. I think we said nine days. So we have that. and ah And then for anybody who's not already familiar, I have a way for you to support this event with a monthly membership. And I have ah two settings on there, one for an individual, one for a family.
00:02:58
Speaker
And then if you wanted to set your own amount, ah but I have it set up as a live event with tiered pricing so that nobody has to pay to be here. But with the tiered pricing, i have this um I really like this website where it gives me... The ability to set up what we call tiered pricing where it's not donation, but it's you can set your own amount. So if you wanted to set $2 if you wanted to set $1 whatever it was that you felt that you had or or felt led to do that. That is the amount that you can set and with any type of ah
00:03:35
Speaker
amount that you feel led for, whether it's in a monthly membership or it's a set amount or whether it's your pick your own amount, I will print out that calendar for you on my Pretty Beige sugar cane paper and send you that in the mail along with the set of stickers, the same ones that I am using on my calendar.
00:03:54
Speaker
And they are these gold foil heart crosses. And I will send you those in the mail, just a set of those for the month so that you can keep track of your daily commitment to read the Bible every day. It's totally voluntary. I just have that out there for anybody who feels led.
00:04:09
Speaker
um And that's why I have the calendar available for download for free.

Introduction to Day by Day Kids Bible

00:04:13
Speaker
And you can mark off your calendar in any way you choose. There's nothing that says you have to buy the subscription or use my stickers. You mark it off any way you like with your own stickers or your ex or your smiley face or whatever you want to put on there any day. And it is totally fine.
00:04:29
Speaker
So let's go ahead and get ready to read our Bible. We are reading from the Day by Day Kids Bible, and this is in storybook form. if you are not already aware. And you can actually buy this Bible on Amazon. It is available there. ah it's If you just search day by day kids Bible, it will come right up for you. And it is awesome. I love it. It is pretty complete as far as an abbreviated version goes, especially in being in story format for being able to be read in one year.

Moses's Challenges & God's Plans

00:05:04
Speaker
So I really enjoy the fact that it's not just another kid's story Bible, but that it it actually is the complete Bible from Genesis to Revelation and that it is set up to be read in a year. So I feel like that's just a wonderful setup and it really sets us up for success by putting it in such a ah reasonable format.
00:05:33
Speaker
So today we are going to be reading about, let's see, where are we here? Exodus five through seven. And we're gonna be seeing Moses and Aaron heading to talk to the king of Egypt as well as to the Jewish people. And I wanna remind us that Moses has a little bit of a lack of self-confidence in his ability to speak to the the king.
00:06:01
Speaker
on his own. So he has Aaron to help him. Now I want to remind us also of God's faithfulness. So God has already told Moses what is going to happen. He has told Moses that when he goes to the king, the king is not going to listen to him. and He's going to make his heart hard. And why would God want to do that?
00:06:22
Speaker
Because that's the way God is able to bring glory to himself by showing what he is capable of, by showing that nothing is too hard for him. so just And and noah Moses will succeed, but it's not going to be on the very first attempt. And so God is preparing Moses for a difficult path ahead, but he says, you will succeed. i We will be leading these people out of Egypt. I'm going to do it. I've made promises and I keep my promises.
00:06:51
Speaker
And we're going to see that ah God reaffirms these promises. And God, ah it does make everything happen just the way he said. But in our own lives too, I just want to point out that even when he gives us something to do,
00:07:12
Speaker
It's remember everything is to give glory to God so it might be that it doesn't look like we are succeeding right at first, but that doesn't mean we aren't going to it just means that God is going to show us wonders.
00:07:27
Speaker
And it's going to and be seen that it was him who was responsible for this happening, not us. It wasn't ultimately Moses' grand eloquency, his his ability to speak eloquently that convinced the king to let these things happen. it wasn't It wasn't the ah having Aaron with him who spoke for him that caused this to happen. Ultimately, it was God and his wonders and his might. He was showing what he was capable of doing. So remember, God is working every single thing into good, whether it's in Moses' life, whether it's in Aaron's life, whether it's in your life, whether it's in my life. And we see this time and time and time and time and time and time and time again.
00:08:13
Speaker
throughout the Bible and so these stories are meant to encourage us and I say that again and again and again because our enemy is always trying to discourage us and we have a tendency to become easily discouraged like Moses.
00:08:28
Speaker
Look how easily Moses is discouraged in the story that we read today. Even though he's already been assured by God that this is what's going to happen and he's been told ahead of time what will happen, watch for Moses' discouragement and his lack of self-confidence or his lack of confidence in general that this is going to happen. So keep your ears open for that.
00:08:54
Speaker
We're gonna be a pickup in Exodus five and six and this section is called hay bricks. Now I want to elaborate that so the the Jewish people ah in their labor, they had to make bricks and they used mud and straw to make these bricks. And they would have to put these bricks together for use in building public works projects type of a thing. So this is what the hay bricks are that are being referred to.
00:09:24
Speaker
And this is right after Moses and Aaron have gone to the Jewish people and told them that this is what God has told them to do. Then Moses and Aaron went to see the king. They told him what the Jews God said. They told him God's words and God's words were, let my people go. I want them to go to the desert. I want them to have a holiday for me.
00:09:51
Speaker
Who is the Jews? God asked the king. Why should I obey him? I don't know him. I won't let the people go. The Jews God came to us, said Moses and Aaron. So let us take a trip to the desert. We'll be gone for three days. We will worship God by giving him gifts there. If we don't, he might make us sick or we might get hurt.
00:10:14
Speaker
Look, said the king, there are lots of people in this land. You're just trying to keep them from working. Then the king talked to the work bosses. Don't give the people any more hay to make their bricks. Tell them to get their own hay. But they still have to make just as many bricks.
00:10:33
Speaker
They don't wanna work and that's why they are asking me if they can go and worship their God. So make the work harder for them. Then they won't listen to these lies. Now the work bosses told the people what the king said. Then the Jews had to look for hay and it took time. And then they had trouble making as many bricks as they did before and the work bosses beat them.
00:11:01
Speaker
They said, why didn't you make as many bricks today? Then the Jewish leaders went to the king. Why are you doing this? They asked. The bosses don't give us hay, but they want us to make as many bricks. They beat us and we're not to blame. You just don't wanna work, said the king. That's why you keep asking me to let you go worship your God. Go get back to work. You won't get any hay, but you have to make just as many bricks.
00:11:33
Speaker
The Jewish leaders saw that they were in trouble. So they went to Moses and Aaron, and Moses and Aaron were waiting for them. The leaders said, God will judge you for this. You made the king hate us. We'll all be killed. So Moses talked to God. Why are you bringing us trouble? Why did you even send me here? He asked. I went to the king, but now he's giving your people a hard time. You haven't saved them at all.
00:12:03
Speaker
Now you'll see what I'm going to do, said God. The king will let the Jews go. My strong hand will make him do it. He will send you out of this land.
00:12:18
Speaker
Then God said, I'm Abraham's God, I'm Isaac's God and Jacob's God. I promise to give them the land of Canaan. I have heard my people cry. I remember my promise. So tell them I am the Lord. I'll take you out of this land. I will set you free. You will be my people. I will be your God. Then you'll know that I am the Lord.
00:12:46
Speaker
Your God, I'll take you to the land I promised to the Jews. I am the Lord. Moses told the Jews what God had said, but they didn't listen to him. Their hearts were too sad and worried. God told Moses, go to the king, tell him to let the Jews leave this land.
00:13:13
Speaker
The Jews won't listen to me, said Moses, so why would the king listen to me? I don't even talk well. Exodus seven, snakes and blood.
00:13:26
Speaker
God talked to Moses. It will seem to the king that you're like God. Aaron will go with you. Say whatever I tell you. Aaron will talk to the king. I will show many signs and wonders, but the king won't listen to you. Then I'll send trouble to Egypt and I'll bring my people out. So Moses and Aaron obeyed God.
00:13:52
Speaker
Moses was 80 years old and Aaron was 83. God said, the king will tell you to do a wonder. So tell Aaron to throw down the stick he uses for walking and it will turn into a snake. Moses and Aaron went to the king. Aaron threw his walking stick down. It turned into a snake. Then the king called his wise men and he called his magic men.
00:14:23
Speaker
Each man threw down his walking stick and the sticks turned into snakes. But Aaron's walking stick ate up their walking sticks. Then the king got angry and he wouldn't listen. His heart got hard. He would not let the Jewish people leave the land.
00:14:46
Speaker
So God talked to Moses again. Go see the king in the morning. Wait by the Nile River to meet him. He will go out to the water. These were God's words for the king. Let my people leave this land. Let them go worship me in the desert. You don't listen to me. So I will show you I am the Lord.
00:15:12
Speaker
Then God told Moses to say this, I'll hit the river with my walking stick. It will turn into blood. All the fish will die. The river will smell bad. The people of Egypt won't be able to drink the water. Then God said, tell Aaron what to do. Tell him to hold his walking stick over the water.
00:15:36
Speaker
and hold it over rivers and ponds. The water will turn into blood and blood will be everywhere. It will even be in the stone jars and wooden pails." So Moses and Aaron did what God said and the water turned into blood. The fish died. The river smelled bad and blood was everywhere. The people of Egypt couldn't drink the water.
00:16:05
Speaker
But the king's magic men did the same thing and the king did not care about God. His heart got hard again and he wouldn't listen. It was just like God had said it would be. The king turned around and went back into his palace. He didn't even think this was important. All of the people of Egypt dug wells by the river. They were looking for water to drink.

Reflection on Exodus & Encouragement

00:16:34
Speaker
And that's the end of our reading for today.
00:16:41
Speaker
We see that God is doing a lot there. And even the people, ah the Jews were were not convinced that they were actually being taken care of by God. They just saw the troubles. And so we want to look at their example and not follow that. God is faithful. Things happen just the way he says that they will happen. And even though it might not seem like things are going the way that they should, when God is so mighty, I mean, he he had wonders that he was doing. And and who was in the midst of of trying to sabotage those wonders?
00:17:19
Speaker
The Magic Men. And they probably got their power from Satan, but that didn't stop God from being mightier for instance Aaron's walking stick ate up their walking stick but God knew what was going to happen in the same way that he told ah Joseph by those dreams that he gave them so many years ago that his brothers would bow down to him and that the second dream that Joseph had was that even the sun and the moon bowed down to him and those were his parents and not that they not that joe Jacob bowed down to Joseph but that Joseph
00:17:59
Speaker
ranked higher than his father. And that did not seem very probable to them at all. But what happened? Joseph became second in command of Egypt. So things happen. God knows exactly what's going to happen. So if he's telling us to do something and we know that it's not that that it's things are not going to happen right away because bad things are happening, or even if we don't know, look for the wonder that God is going to do by showing us his might.
00:18:31
Speaker
because everything is to bring glory to God. Not only is there good being worked into it, but it's to show us how mighty our God is. If things just happened easily, then we might become arrogant and think, oh, look what I did. I just walked up to the king because I used to live in the palace. And I told him what God told me to say. And he just said, oh yeah, sure, go off go. Then it would have just been potentially where Moses could have said, look what I did.
00:18:59
Speaker
And Aaron could have said, look what I did. I was a big part of this. But they had to struggle a bit because the glory was going to be God's glory, not their glory. It wasn't going to be the glory of the Jews leaders who went up and said, hey, this isn't fair. Why are you treating us this way? It was the glory of God. It was God that was going to eventually make the king do it he said right from the very beginning to moses that until someone's stronger than him who is stronger than a king it's not moses it's not erin it's god until god makes him do it and he says that the egyptian people will send them out of their country with their riches so by the time moses is done with everything we will see them
00:19:51
Speaker
Please just go at this point and then we will see other things going along with that too. But it's for the God's glory that these things are happening. The Jewish people are seeing the might of God. And I want to point out too again that how conversational Moses is. He goes right back to God and says,
00:20:12
Speaker
What are you doing? And God strike him down? No. He he tolerated Moses' impatience and his lack of understanding. And he said, yeah this is going to happen. He reassured him again. He repeated some of the same things he had said. He had already told Moses, I am the God of Jacob. I am the God of it Isaac. I am the God of Abraham.
00:20:37
Speaker
And I remember my promise, and I do care, and I will bring these people out of Egypt. He told Jacob long ago he would bring these people out of Egypt.
00:20:49
Speaker
And he will. And in the same way, we have to remember that when we are going through difficult things and it looks like God is not providing or God is not there with us because some some injustice is happening. It certainly wasn't the Jews fault that they no longer had hay to make the bricks and they were suffering for it. They were beaten for it. And it can feel like we are being beaten by people. And where is God in all this? He is there.
00:21:19
Speaker
His ways are higher than our ways, and we can't understand everything in the moment. But we have a saying that hindsight is 20-20, meaning it's always easier to look behind us and see what happened. And then we can say, oh, this is why it happened. Well, God gives us the Bible to give us hindsight.
00:21:39
Speaker
so that we can know for certainty that our God does not leave us, He does not forsake us, He is always with us, and He will never not show us His glory. We might not think that things are turning out the way that they are supposed to, but they are turning out the way God knows that they are going to be.
00:22:01
Speaker
And so once again, we need to look for the good that God is going to make of it, and we need to look for Him to be glorified. In whatever it is that happens, even these supposed bad things that happen, God is going to be glorified because by the Egyptian king denying the egypt the Jews to be able to leave Egypt, it allowed us to see God's might, God's amazing ability to do anything and everything.
00:22:31
Speaker
Because is anything too hard for the Lord? No. So that's where I want to leave us today. I don't want to be repetitive. I think that's probably enough

Glorifying God in Daily Life

00:22:42
Speaker
examples.
00:22:42
Speaker
but um I just want to and encourage us to to not lose heart the way Moses lost heart. Be encouraged when you are tempted to lose heart to look back on these stories of Moses and say, Lord, it seems like things are going hard. I don't know where we're going with this, but I have faith in you because you were there for Moses, you were and you showed the Egyptian people you were there for them.
00:23:10
Speaker
And I know that you will be there for me and you will be glorified. So Lord, open my eyes and allow me to see you be glorified so that I can tell everybody the wonders that you did. Because that's what the book of Exodus is, is it's God had Moses write down the wonders that he did. Otherwise we wouldn't know. So if Moses had kept all of these things to himself,
00:23:36
Speaker
in the Jewish people's exodus, the the leaving of Egypt, we wouldn't know about this and we wouldn't be able to glorify God. So let's glorify God today in his wondrous wisdom and in his great ability and the fact that nothing is impossible for him. And let's do that every day in every way.
00:24:01
Speaker
So as we go through our day today, this is my start of my day. It's only 10 15 am my time. But by the time you guys get to ah the chance to view the video it will already have been your evening. So for me, I'm going to be looking for ways to glorify God today.
00:24:18
Speaker
And I'd like to encourage you to do the same, even if it's at the end of your day. Think back on your day of everything that happened today. And if you can, I'm sure you can find a way, because I'm praying now that God will um give you something in your day where you will say that you glorify God for that. And he will, because he is so faithful and he is showing us these things.
00:24:40
Speaker
So you are, I can't wait to hear how you glorify God if you choose to share that with me, or if not, it will be between you and God and your family.

Conclusion & Invitation

00:24:52
