00:00:03

00:00:28
Speaker
And if you are following along on your daily commitment calendar, it's time to get that out as well as your sticker or however else you are keeping track of your daily commitment because you're about to hear the Bible today.
00:00:42

Discussion on Biblical Feasts

00:01:02
Speaker
I am so glad that you are watching.
00:01:05
Speaker
Thank you for being here with me. i hope you are enjoying the stories and I hope that you are learning a lot about how to make God the most important one in your lives every single day.
00:01:18
Speaker
We are going to do our daily counting of the Omer. And if you are interested in counting the Omer with me, just go ahead and follow along with me. There is always a little blessing first that comes before the counting and then we will have the counting.
00:01:38
Speaker
Blessed are you, o Lord our God, King of the universe, who has set us apart by your commandments and has commanded us to count the Omer.
00:01:58
Speaker
Today is the fifth day of the third week and day 19. I have counted the Omer.
00:02:10
Speaker
Great job counting the Omer, guys. I am so glad that you are choosing to count the Omer with me. Thank you. I am going to be having a separate video coming where I am going to do a recording of a reading of an article that is from mycharisma.com and it is entitled God's Seven Holy Days and How Jesus Fulfils Them.
00:02:36
Speaker
And that is where we talk about ah a little more in depth about how ah Jesus fulfilled Passover, which we have talked about. The Feast of Unleavened Bread.
00:02:48
Speaker
We talked a bit about that. The Feast of First Fruits. We mentioned that Jesus rose on that day of Feast of First Fruits. And right now we are currently in the Feast of Weeks.
00:03:01
Speaker
And when we get to the end, that will be on Shavuot, which is what we call the day of Pentecost in the New Testament. So as we get closer, I'm going to have a video just on that because there is so much good information.
00:03:15
Speaker
it would take up ah more time than what we typically do alone just on our video for our daily reading. And I don't want it to be too long. So I'm going to be reading those on their own video. And I might get that recorded today and get that posted up there.
00:03:32
Speaker
It depends on how much time I have. It's already almost three o'clock my time.
00:03:37
Speaker
And then the feasts after that come in the fall, and that's the Feast of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement, and the Feast of Booths, or the Feast of Tabernacles. Sometimes that's called but the ah the tabernacle. Let's see if that's the right word we say.
00:03:57
Speaker
Feast of Booths.
00:04:02
Speaker
Let's see.
00:04:05
Speaker
Yes, tabernacles, that's the other word for it. So we'll have another reading where we learn specifically about those. And it's really important to me to communicate these because God has put it on my heart that we don't really read about these in or hear about these very much in our Christian churches.
00:04:25
Speaker
And God has put ah unity in my heart. And um that's why I have started attending a Messianic Jewish congregation as ah i feel that it brings more unity to the body of Christ. And that's what I'm really looking for. And not that everybody has to switch to a Messianic Jewish congregation, but God is calling us for unity in the body of Christ.
00:04:49
Speaker
And it is our enemy who wants there to be division. among the members of the body of Christ. And ah so we need to get back to our roots a little bit, whether it is through a Christian church that is teaching the the feasts that we are commanded to observe, or whether it's by us as believers taking initiative to be obedient to God on our own.

Elijah's Story and Miracles

00:05:14
Speaker
and ah look these up and learn how to do these. And you can do that by listening to the videos here and by referencing the articles that I will be putting in the description, which is where I've gotten this information.
00:05:26
Speaker
ah Because ultimately our goal, as we have been learning, is to make God the most important one in our lives and to obey Him. And these are actually things that he has commanded that we do forever.
00:05:37
Speaker
These are not things that were ah no longer supposed to be observed after Christ came and fulfilled their foreshadowing. So I'm really hope that you as a watcher or listener take the time to listen or watch the additional video that I put out on those and to review them again. i will next year because I don't know where we're going to be next year. We're we're having this event this year.
00:06:04
Speaker
I don't know if I will have a continuing podcast next year with. ah continue teaching or ah work God will lead me to do. But in the event that ah you and I are not here again like this next year, i will have those videos up so that as these times come next year, as we start to get closer to them, that you may be reminded of them.
00:06:27
Speaker
that God would put that upon your heart to seek them out so that you too can obey God's word and and observe these festivals, whether you're doing so through a Messianic Jewish congregation, whether you are encouraging your pastor at your church to observe these and to teach about these, or whether you are simply being obedient yourself.
00:06:49
Speaker
I would hope that you would be called to remember these and to seek them out next year. And that's why I'm preparing us this year and giving us a lot of ah talking about them through these 50 days.
00:07:02
Speaker
And then as the year goes on, as we have the other additional feasts, I will speak about those as well. So thank you for that little bit of extra there as we were talking about that. And it's time to head into our daily Bible reading.
00:07:17
Speaker
We are going to be reading about Elijah today. We are going to be starting our reading on Elijah. And this is a great reading. Elijah was a wonderful prophet.
00:07:29
Speaker
And we're going to read about him starting in 1 Kings chapter 17.
00:07:36
Speaker
Now there was a man named Elijah, and he was a prophet who served God. One day he went to King Ahab in Israel. And he said, it's not going to rain for many years.
00:07:49
Speaker
It won't rain until I say it will rain. And as a side note, when I read this in our big Bible, it actually says there will be no dew either. So we're talking about a lot of dryness.
00:08:03
Speaker
Then God told Elijah, go east, hide by the brook there, drink water from the brook. I have told the birds to bring you food.
00:08:17
Speaker
So Elijah obeyed God. He stayed by the brook. Big black birds called ravens brought food to him. They brought bread and meat every morning and every evening to him.
00:08:35
Speaker
Elijah drank water out of the brook. But the brook dried up and there was no water because there hadn't been any rain. Then God told Elijah, go into town.
00:08:48
Speaker
A woman lives there whose husband has died. I have told her to give you food. So Elijah went to the town. A woman was picking up sticks at the gate.
00:09:02
Speaker
Elijah asked, would you bring me some water? The woman went to get some water. Elijah called, please bring me some bread too. I don't have any bread, said the woman.
00:09:16
Speaker
I have just a little bit of flour in a jar, and I have just a little bit of oil in a jug. I'm going to use these sticks to build a fire. I can cook some food for my son and me just one more time, and then we will die.
00:09:32
Speaker
Don't be afraid, said Elijah. Cook your food, but bring me a little bread for me first. Then make something for you and your son to eat. God says that you won't use up the flour in the jar.
00:09:48
Speaker
You won't use up the oil in the jug. You won't use it up until God sends rain.
00:09:58
Speaker
So the woman made bread for Elijah. Then she had enough flour and oil every day. She could make enough food for her and her family and Elijah.
00:10:11
Speaker
The jar did not run out of flour, and the jug did not run out of oil. It happened just like God said it would. Time passed, and one day the woman's son got sick.
00:10:26
Speaker
He got sicker and sicker until he stopped breathing. And the woman cried to Elijah, "'Are you angry with me?' she asked. "'Are you trying to make me sorry for my sin?' Are you trying to kill my boy?
00:10:43
Speaker
Give him to me, said Elijah. And he carried the boy upstairs. Elijah went to his own room and he put the boy on his bed. He began to pray.
00:10:55
Speaker
God, why did you let this boy die? Why did you let this happen to his mother? Then Elijah lay across the boy and he did that three times.
00:11:08
Speaker
Then he called, God, please give this boy's life back.
00:11:14
Speaker
God heard Elijah. The boy came back to life. Elijah carried him back down the stairs and he handed him to his mother.
00:11:25
Speaker
Look, he said, your son is alive now. Now I know that you're a prophet, said the woman. And I know that your words are true because they are from God.
00:11:38
Speaker
That is the end of our reading today.
00:11:43
Speaker
We spoke a little bit about ah obeying God before we started our daily reading with Elijah today. And I don't think it's any coincidence that God has given us these stories in the order that they appear.
00:11:57
Speaker
They are done chronologically, but have you noticed that everything seems to happen when we have things going on that are very similar, that there's always that daily application that we can use in our life?
00:12:09
Speaker
and to make God the most important one and to obey Him. And this is exactly what our daily application is for today, to obey God.
00:12:20
Speaker
We obey God first and then what we need happens. That's in alignment with what Jesus said when he said, seek first the kingdom of God and everything else you need will be given to you.
00:12:35
Speaker
So at first we see that God told Elijah, go east, hide by the brook there, drink water from the brook. I have told the birds to bring you food.
00:12:48
Speaker
So Elijah obeyed God. He didn't ask for ah proof that the birds were going to bring him food. He didn't say, God, that's ridiculous. How can birds bring me food?
00:13:01
Speaker
No, he didn't argue. He obeyed. And that is our daily application, is that when God tells us to do something, we need to obey. When we obey, God provides for us, and he will do so even if it is in a supernatural way.

Lessons of Obedience and Prayer

00:13:19
Speaker
He had birds bringing Elijah food, and when the brook dried up and there was no more water, he sent Elijah to the town where the woman was. It's interesting because when I looked up 1 Kings 17 in the Big Bible, it actually says that Elijah was surprised when he saw the widow.
00:13:40
Speaker
I don't know why he was surprised, but he was. And I just think it was um it was great that it was recorded in that. So let me read that part to you.
00:13:56
Speaker
It says... Then the word of the Lord came to him saying, leave this place, turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook east of Jordan.
00:14:07
Speaker
It will come about that you will drink from the brook. I have also commanded the ravens to feed you there. So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived there, which is east of the Jordan.
00:14:22
Speaker
I'm omitting the name of the place. It's not relevant. We've used the word brook in our version. The ravens kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.
00:14:35
Speaker
Then it came to pass after a while that the brook dried up because there was no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him saying, Arise, arise, go to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there.
00:14:48
Speaker
I have just commanded a widow there to provide for you.
00:14:53
Speaker
So he arose and went to Zarephath. Now when he came to the town gate, to his surprise, a widow was there gathering sticks.
00:15:06
Speaker
Can you believe it? Elijah was surprised. To his surprise, a widow was there gathering sticks.
00:15:15
Speaker
I love that. that It shows the humanity. It shows how even though Elijah was a great prophet who did amazing things, and God did amazing things through him, he was still a person.
00:15:29
Speaker
He was still just like you and me. And just like you and me, he still had to obey by choice. He didn't argue, but he obeyed. And when he obeyed,
00:15:40
Speaker
then that is when God provided and the things happened just as God said that they would. The woman also obeyed. When at first Elijah said to bring him some bread first, she said, i only have just enough for my son and me and then we have no more food we're left, we're going to die.
00:16:00
Speaker
and he said, no, don't worry about it. you You will have enough, but bring me something to eat first. So she did. And in our big Bible, it actually says that each time she would make the the food and bring it to Elijah first.
00:16:17
Speaker
And then there was enough for her and her son. In that same way, we are to give to God first. And then there will always be enough for us.
00:16:29
Speaker
That's how obedience works. We may be tempted to say, i will give to God after I have paid my bills. I will give to God after I have paid everything I need to pay, after I have spent what I need to spend, and then I will give him but if i have ah if I have enough left or what I have enough left of.
00:16:47
Speaker
And that's not the way God wants us to do it. We are to obey first and give him first. And we are right now in the Feast of First Fruits. that we give to God our best first, and then he will make sure we never run out.
00:17:07
Speaker
Isn't that amazing? When we put God first, he will make sure we always have enough.
00:17:17
Speaker
And it says that that was so. It says that the woman made bread for Elijah, and then she had enough flour and oil every day She could make enough food for her family and Elijah.
00:17:32
Speaker
The jar did not run out of flour and the jug did not run out of oil. God supernaturally cared for her and for Elijah and because they obeyed him.
00:17:45
Speaker
And he will do the same thing for us.
00:17:49
Speaker
Also, as part of our daily application, I want to point out that when the boy died, Elijah didn't understand why. And he said, why have you let this boy die?
00:18:01
Speaker
it would have seemed like they were obeying. So why did God allow this boy to die? God knows what we need before we even ask him. But God still wants us to ask him for things that we need.
00:18:16
Speaker
because it is his delight to answer those prayers, to give glory to himself. So while God could have kept the boy from dying, he would not have been able to show Elijah and the woman his great power and to bring glory to himself if he had not allowed Elijah the opportunity to pray and ask for the boy's life and to then have that granted and for that life to be given back to the boy.
00:18:47
Speaker
God shows us amazing things when we ask him to do things. So sometimes we have things occur in order that God's glory, may be we may seek God's glory and he may reveal his glory to us in these amazing things.
00:19:04
Speaker
Like when you had the fire, when we had the Witch Creek fire, and do you remember? You guys were little then. Some of you weren't even born yet. ah Jedi and Forrest and Pearl and Diamond. Diamond, you weren't born yet.
00:19:18
Speaker
But ah I don't remember what year we had that, but that was quite some time ago. So maybe Pearl, you might remember. But if you had if your mama and daddy had not prayed for your areas by name to be protected and had faith that God would do so,
00:19:38
Speaker
then God could not have shown his his glory three by by ah by answering that prayer to show his faithfulness. God gives us opportunities to pray for amazing things to happen so that he can show us amazing things.
00:19:58
Speaker
But if we fail to ask him, we won't receive amazing things or see amazing things happen. Do you get
00:20:07
Speaker
So there are times in our life when we need to ask God to provide for us so that we can see his glory. And that's our second part of our daily application.
00:20:20
Speaker
God is more than capable of doing amazing things, but sometimes he's waiting for us to ask him to to do these things for us.
00:20:29
Speaker
And you remember the other day when we read about the king, i think it was King Isau, where it says that he did not ask God for help when he was sick.
00:20:40
Speaker
He got sickness in his feet.
00:20:44
Speaker
And we read that he did not ask God to save him. He only asked the doctors. So he died. He did not give God the opportunity to do something amazing, did he?
00:20:58
Speaker
And so God didn't do anything amazing for him by saving his life. Let him die.
00:21:05
Speaker
And sometimes death is, and we all have to experience physical dying, but our spiritual death, we will never physically, we never spiritually die. Jesus rescued us from death itself.
00:21:16
Speaker
but we will all transition you know to to our to god at some point but so not all illness will eventually be healed and you know and then because we we will eventually pass but there are times in our lives where even we we We need to ask God to heal us so we can give him the opportunity to do so.
00:21:41
Speaker
And then that is up to him to do it. But if he can't you won't say yes if we don't even ask. Make sense? Well, thank you for listening along with me today. I hope that you found today very thought provoking and that you are encouraged to obey God and so that he can he will do wondrous things and provide for you and to heal when we need healing or any other type of protection ah like we have been seeing how God does that when we look to him and when we call upon him, it says if we seek him, we will find him.
00:22:19
Speaker
So pray that you continue to seek God every day in your life. You continue to obey Him every day and that you continue to make Him the most important one in your life and that you are encouraged by our daily readings to do these things.
00:22:35
Speaker
Well, thank you very much for being here with me today. And if you feel that God has lit your light, please click that light button when you get done listening or watching. And I will be here for everybody again to tomorrow.
00:22:48
Speaker
And if you know of somebody who would love to hear these readings or could benefit, share this event with them. And together we can spread the word about reading God's word. Have a fabulous rest of your Friday, everybody.
