Transformative Training at Psychic Horizons

00:00:22
Speaker
So if you have listened to our past episodes, you have heard us mentioning the school where both Shannon and I had our meditation and clairvoyant training and how it had changed our lives.
00:00:34
Speaker
And we probably sound like a broken record because for me, it has benefited my life in so many different ways to the point where I say my life before Psychic Horizons and after Psychic Horizons.
00:00:50
Speaker
So...
00:00:51
Speaker
That's how I define my life.

Meet Laura Hopper, Founder of Psychic Horizons

00:00:53
Speaker
So as our first guest, we are honored to have Laura Hopper, who is the founder and director of Psychic Horizons.
00:01:03
Speaker
Hello, Laura.
00:01:06
Speaker
doing good how are you excited yeah we're so happy to have you we've been you know manifesting this and you know essentially we're just so grateful that you're here today uh but we would love for everyone to know like please tell us about your background where you grew up your educational background if you were religious or spiritual growing up uh and then for a fun one your astrological sign
00:01:35
Speaker
Well, Psychic Horizons is now 42 years old.
00:01:38
Speaker
So when I first started doing this, I was quite young.
00:01:43
Speaker
But my background is that my parents met in Tehran, Iran, because they were both teachers at a Presbyterian school there.
00:01:56
Speaker
There was an English-speaking school.
00:01:58
Speaker
So they met and married there.
00:01:59
Speaker
And when they came back after three years, my mom was pregnant with me.
00:02:04
Speaker
So I was born, I feel like my energy is both from the Middle East and from the U.S. because I was born in the U.S. in Kentucky.
00:02:12
Speaker
And my dad went to seminary for three years in Louisville, Kentucky.
00:02:15
Speaker
And then they went back as missionaries.
00:02:18
Speaker
So when I was two years old, I went back.
00:02:20
Speaker
So I grew up in Iran until I was 16.

From Law to Spirituality: Laura's Journey

00:02:24
Speaker
Came back to the States, went to college in Florida and also back in Louisville, Kentucky, University of Louisville, where I graduated in political science, was going to go to law school.
00:02:33
Speaker
And then some friends of mine had moved to San Francisco.
00:02:37
Speaker
So another friend and I decided we were going to San Francisco.
00:02:40
Speaker
Also, I gave up law school.
00:02:42
Speaker
I didn't really want to do it anyway.
00:02:44
Speaker
And because my roommate at the time was a lawyer at Legal Aid where I was working as a paralegal.
00:02:49
Speaker
And I saw what he had to go through to be a lawyer.
00:02:52
Speaker
It was frustrating.
00:02:53
Speaker
And so, and I felt it didn't have, it wasn't real personal to the people involved.
00:02:57
Speaker
And so I decided to come out here and came out here in 1974 and within two months had met a neighbor.
00:03:07
Speaker
who was going to a meditation school in Berkeley.
00:03:12
Speaker
Now, this is not something

Founding and Challenges of Psychic Horizons

00:03:13
Speaker
I was interested in.
00:03:13
Speaker
I had been doing politics and anti-Vietnam War politics, civil rights, women's movement, all that kind of thing.
00:03:22
Speaker
So I was not the least bit interested in spiritual pursuits, but my friend was.
00:03:28
Speaker
And so this guy, Rick, would come over and they'd talk about all this stuff.
00:03:33
Speaker
But my friend wanted a, for Christmas, wanted a Christmas present, a book called What Seth Speaks, which is one of the books about spirituality.
00:03:43
Speaker
And I really didn't want to buy this book.
00:03:45
Speaker
I went to the bookstore.
00:03:46
Speaker
I saw it.
00:03:47
Speaker
I thought, I've got to buy something else.
00:03:48
Speaker
I was in so much resistance.
00:03:50
Speaker
I tried to buy something else, but that was the cheapest book at the time.
00:03:54
Speaker
So we didn't have very much money, so I ended up buying it.
00:03:58
Speaker
So I bought the book, gave it to her.
00:04:00
Speaker
She read it.
00:04:00
Speaker
She said, oh, you've got to read this book.
00:04:02
Speaker
I said, no, no, no, I'm not interested.
00:04:04
Speaker
But finally, one day I did.
00:04:07
Speaker
And after I read that book, my whole world just sort of tilted and just changed completely.
00:04:14
Speaker
And so from then on, I was interested in this stuff and went to that school in Berkeley.
00:04:21
Speaker
And as soon as I walked in the door, I thought, oh, this is what I'm going to do.
00:04:25
Speaker
But I didn't consider myself psychic or anything.
00:04:27
Speaker
I was just interested in the spirituality aspect of it.
00:04:31
Speaker
So I did go through that school and graduated.
00:04:35
Speaker
They asked me to teach there.
00:04:37
Speaker
And then we went on vacation for a couple of weeks, came back.
00:04:41
Speaker
I didn't have a mailbox.
00:04:43
Speaker
So what that meant was I was getting kicked out.
00:04:46
Speaker
So I got kicked out, even though they asked me to teach.
00:04:49
Speaker
And so what I was going to do.
00:04:51
Speaker
So I had to start teaching on my own.
00:04:54
Speaker
So I moved back to San Francisco, started teaching on my own in my apartment in the Fillmore, which at that time wasn't a very safe space.

Incorporation and Institutional Independence

00:05:03
Speaker
And I was burglarized a number of times.
00:05:05
Speaker
My car was broken into a number of times.
00:05:07
Speaker
And I was accosted a number of times and had broken ribs and everything.
00:05:13
Speaker
So I ended up moving.
00:05:13
Speaker
Oh, my God.
00:05:15
Speaker
Tenoe Valley.
00:05:16
Speaker
But I started teaching there and had a few students, not very many, because at that time there was no social media, there was nothing, no internet, no nothing.
00:05:23
Speaker
So you got students by posting flyers on telephone poles and in bookstores and cafes, which is what I did.
00:05:30
Speaker
And so I had a few students
00:05:33
Speaker
Even though I didn't know what I was doing, I never had any training to teach.
00:05:36
Speaker
So I would use, I had a yellow pad and had everything written down on a yellow pad and we just read.
00:05:43
Speaker
And that's why I taught the first classes and then moved to Noe Valley finally.
00:05:49
Speaker
And then I started getting more students in Noe Valley.
00:05:52
Speaker
And one of the earliest students that I had over there, because at that time I was teaching the equivalent of a beginning class and a next intermediate class and so forth, two or three classes.
00:06:05
Speaker
And they said, look, we're coming here a lot and we need to tell our friends where we're going.
00:06:10
Speaker
So they said, you need a name.
00:06:14
Speaker
So I never thought of starting a school, actually.
00:06:17
Speaker
I was just going to teach classes.
00:06:19
Speaker
And so I thought, okay, if they want a name, that means I have to incorporate.
00:06:24
Speaker
So in the meantime, I'd asked a couple people to teach with me, but I cut off all friendships in Berkeley because they said I couldn't teach in San Francisco.
00:06:36
Speaker
San Francisco was too difficult.
00:06:38
Speaker
It wasn't going to work.
00:06:38
Speaker
You can't do it.
00:06:40
Speaker
And so I thought, well, if I'm going to do this, I can't talk to them anymore.
00:06:43
Speaker
So I cut off all the friendships and so just me and then a couple people that I'd asked to teach with me over time.
00:06:53
Speaker
The one person I'd known and two I hadn't known, somebody referred me to a couple people.
00:06:58
Speaker
And so I incorporated along with them, with two other people, we formed the Psychic Horizons and also the Church of Natural Grace.
00:07:07
Speaker
And so that's how we formally started, although it took several years to get the incorporation because at that time there was a lot of, you know, what they considered to be religious institutions and weren't valid.
00:07:23
Speaker
So it took the state of California like three years or something for us to actually incorporate.
00:07:29
Speaker
And so in the meantime, I was just teaching and then we finally incorporated in 81.
00:07:33
Speaker
Yeah.
00:07:34
Speaker
And then so that's how the school got started.
00:07:37
Speaker
And the curriculum I created at the meditation school I went to, I had written lots of things down.
00:07:43
Speaker
I created a two-year curriculum.
00:07:45
Speaker
Wow.
00:07:47
Speaker
So I had a curriculum.
00:07:49
Speaker
But I didn't know, you know, how to actually do it over time.
00:07:53
Speaker
I didn't realize how long it took or how short it took or anything.
00:07:56
Speaker
So it was all trial by error.
00:07:59
Speaker
And some of the poor students, you know, I was trying out a lot of things on the students, new techniques and new healing, ways of healing and all this stuff.
00:08:08
Speaker
And fortunately, they all got through it.
00:08:10
Speaker
Okay.
00:08:11
Speaker
You know.
00:08:13
Speaker
But it took 10 years.
00:08:14
Speaker
I was working at an investment banking company as a temp for a while, but then I worked there for 10 years doing various things until the school got off the ground enough that I could support myself.
00:08:30
Speaker
doing this school.
00:08:30
Speaker
So it took 10 years.
00:08:32
Speaker
After 10 years, I could work at the school full time.
00:08:35
Speaker
And so that's how things sort of progressed.
00:08:37
Speaker
We went through some major ups and downs.
00:08:39
Speaker
We almost didn't exist anymore because of a recession in 1989 and 90.
00:08:45
Speaker
And we almost went under.
00:08:49
Speaker
We've had several things like that happen.
00:08:52
Speaker
Because it's not easy to maintain an institution in San Francisco.
00:08:58
Speaker
And so, but we've survived all these years and it's an ongoing institution now.
00:09:05
Speaker
And so we'll see how it goes from now on.
00:09:08
Speaker
So I'm getting up there in age.
00:09:10
Speaker
So we'll see what happens.
00:09:11
Speaker
I need people like you to continue the program, you know.
00:09:16
Speaker
Age is just an energy, Laura.
00:09:17
Speaker
That's right.
00:09:20
Speaker
Yeah, that's such a really cool background that you have, and especially the cross-cultural influences from Iran and just kind of growing up with seminary, you know, parents who go... It's a very religious household, very religious.
00:09:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:38
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:40
Speaker
When I left home, I was 17, and I said, I'm never going to open a Bible again.
00:09:46
Speaker
Really?
00:09:48
Speaker
Yeah, because it wasn't my thing.
00:09:50
Speaker
I wasn't attached to being a Presbyterian.
00:09:54
Speaker
Oh, yeah.
00:09:55
Speaker
It wasn't very personal.
00:09:57
Speaker
So I said, no, I'm not going to do this.
00:09:58
Speaker
But, you know, when we incorporated, we could have become an educational institution, except that if you're an educational institution, then the state can come in and tell you what you can and can't do.
00:10:10
Speaker
But well, given these concepts that we're teaching, that's no good.
00:10:14
Speaker
So the only way to avoid that was to become a religious institution.
00:10:19
Speaker
So here we

Philosophy of Independence in Spiritual Teaching

00:10:21
Speaker
became a church because we needed to be able to do our own thing without any experience.
00:10:29
Speaker
And so part of that was you had to have church services, and that means I had to open the Bible.
00:10:35
Speaker
So I became a church and a minister, you know, in total resistance to the whole thing.
00:10:42
Speaker
But, you know, what you resist, you become.
00:10:44
Speaker
And so that's kind of what happened there.
00:10:47
Speaker
But, you know, we've got to create our own way of doing all that.
00:10:51
Speaker
So it's kind of it's really neat now.
00:10:53
Speaker
It's really great.
00:10:54
Speaker
And we all have a lot of spiritual growth of it.
00:10:56
Speaker
Yeah, we can attest that.
00:10:58
Speaker
I think Shanna and I, we are living proof of the teachings that we have gone through.
00:11:04
Speaker
So whatever you, all the techniques and your tools that you had to like refine throughout the years, you know, I appreciate the fact that it's not only that we practice in a meditative state, but we can also apply in our daily lives too.
00:11:19
Speaker
Yeah.
00:11:20
Speaker
And that's for me when it was a game changer, you know, because when you like you leave that meditation space, you're like, ah, you know, you're all like rainbows and unicorns.
00:11:29
Speaker
But when you go into, you know, the challenges of going to work and relationships, that's when it really you need those tools and techniques the most.
00:11:39
Speaker
So for me, that's when it really made the difference.
00:11:45
Speaker
That's right.
00:11:46
Speaker
You know, people ask me over the years, well, why is your meditation school in the middle of the city?
00:11:51
Speaker
Why aren't you out in the countryside somewhere, you know, where it's quiet?
00:11:55
Speaker
And I said, well, that's not the goal.
00:11:59
Speaker
You know, the goal is to be able to, for people to be able to use these tools and not only in their everyday lives, but in the middle of their everyday lives.
00:12:06
Speaker
So, and now we're located on Valencia street, which is, you know, is a very busy street in San Francisco.
00:12:12
Speaker
And so, yeah,
00:12:14
Speaker
I feel like if somebody wanted to go and meditate in the middle of Valencia Street, you could take your chair out there, sit in the middle of the street, and not be bothered by what's going on around because you know how to be in your own space, you know how to have boundaries, you know how to be grounded, so that no matter what, you can take these tools and use them in your everyday life because that's what we want.
00:12:37
Speaker
That's what we want you to do is to use them.
00:12:41
Speaker
And to, you know, create with it your own life, not, you know, have somebody tell you how to do it, but use the information for yourself.
00:12:50
Speaker
And so we

Personal Transformations and Gratitude

00:12:51
Speaker
don't want to be anybody's teacher for their life.
00:12:53
Speaker
We just want to be somebody's teacher temporarily.
00:12:56
Speaker
And then you can take it and use it for yourself.
00:13:00
Speaker
Absolutely.
00:13:01
Speaker
Yes.
00:13:02
Speaker
But I'm curious, Laura.
00:13:03
Speaker
So in your psychic journey, as you went through this other school in Berkeley, when did you realize that you had psychic abilities?
00:13:14
Speaker
Because you mentioned that as you went in, you were just like, just kind of, let's just see where this goes.
00:13:19
Speaker
When was that moment that you like, you realize, oh, wait a minute, I think I'm psychic.
00:13:25
Speaker
There's no moment.
00:13:28
Speaker
because I never felt that way.
00:13:30
Speaker
I felt like over time, I was called to this or something.
00:13:34
Speaker
It was just like an obsession.
00:13:37
Speaker
I didn't feel like I had much of a choice.
00:13:38
Speaker
I just needed to do this.
00:13:41
Speaker
But I never felt I was really psychic.
00:13:44
Speaker
I realized I was a good teacher.
00:13:46
Speaker
And so I could teach the concepts in a way that people could understand them and use them and all that.
00:13:52
Speaker
But in truth of being psychic,
00:13:54
Speaker
You know, I never really felt that way.
00:13:56
Speaker
You know, I didn't even want to do readings when I started teaching.
00:14:01
Speaker
But I realized that if I didn't do readings, I was losing kind of the knack of what I needed to be doing that I was also teaching, because I was also teaching people how to read.
00:14:11
Speaker
So I felt like, okay, I need to do this also.
00:14:14
Speaker
So I began having my own reading practice in addition in order to...
00:14:20
Speaker
feel that I was current you know with my energy space and everything and so I've become a good reader but I never felt I was a great psychic I'm a pretty good teacher and the readings are pretty good now at this point because I've been doing it a long time but never felt I was this great psychic I feel like a lot of the students are better psychics than I am
00:14:43
Speaker
So, but that, but to me, that's a great thing because if you can attract people who are even better than you are, then that's great.
00:14:54
Speaker
You know, so that's kind of how I feel about it.
00:14:57
Speaker
I love that.
00:14:57
Speaker
I think people, yeah.
00:14:59
Speaker
Go ahead, Tanya.
00:15:00
Speaker
Oh, no, you go, you go ahead.
00:15:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:02
Speaker
Yeah.
00:15:03
Speaker
So as you went through this journey, how did people around you, how did they react to you, you know, becoming more spiritual and then therefore opening the school?
00:15:16
Speaker
Well, my parents, you know, I didn't tell them a whole lot initially.
00:15:19
Speaker
and but they knew what i was doing and i'll explain a little bit to them and one time they actually came and sat in some of the classes this is way in the beginning um they didn't quite get it but that was okay you know because they were you know more traditionally religiously oriented but you know over time they became more and more liberal in their in their um perspective
00:15:44
Speaker
And so they had some understanding, but they were never negative about it or anything or invalidating or anything like that.
00:15:52
Speaker
So they're actually pretty supportive in their own way.
00:15:57
Speaker
But in terms of other people, you know, when we started out, there's hardly anybody doing spiritual work, psychic work.
00:16:04
Speaker
And so, you know, if you ride the bus in San Francisco and you saw somebody reading a spiritual book, you'd go up to them and have this very excited conversation.
00:16:14
Speaker
And not only that, it wasn't welcoming for us to be even advertising.
00:16:20
Speaker
So, like, we didn't put a sign up outside of our school for a long time, for a number of years, because we'd get a lot of energy thrown at us.
00:16:29
Speaker
And so all of our students came through referral.
00:16:34
Speaker
You know, we would do a couple ads once in a while in the Bay Guardian, you know, which no longer exists, but at the time it was, you know, alternative newspaper and things like that.
00:16:43
Speaker
But, but other than that, it was just through mostly word of mouth.
00:16:48
Speaker
And so, yeah.
00:16:51
Speaker
Yeah.
00:16:51
Speaker
That's when you know it's working.
00:16:52
Speaker
Like, that's when you know, like, the right people or the, you know, there's no right or wrong person, but the people who, I felt very at home as soon as I walked into the school.
00:17:04
Speaker
Like, I was so ungrounded.
00:17:06
Speaker
I don't even know if you remember that, but like,
00:17:08
Speaker
I was so ungrounded and just very head in the clouds.
00:17:11
Speaker
And I was like, Ooh, I want to get my aura read.
00:17:13
Speaker
And like Zach actually read my aura, like the first healing clinic I went to.
00:17:19
Speaker
And, uh, I went with Lily actually, uh, we went together cause we were coworkers at the time.
00:17:24
Speaker
And, uh, one of my, uh,
00:17:26
Speaker
uh, roommates, friends, or her roommates friend, uh, her mom is a medium and she lives in Iowa.
00:17:34
Speaker
And so she was like, Oh, you have to go to psychic horizons.
00:17:38
Speaker
They're the real deal.
00:17:39
Speaker
Yeah.
00:17:40
Speaker
And I,
00:17:41
Speaker
And what's weird is like when I was in the program, I ended up reading that Eli.
00:17:45
Speaker
Her name's Eli.
00:17:46
Speaker
I ended up reading Eli who had originally told me about Psychic Horizons.
00:17:50
Speaker
And like, yeah, isn't that crazy?
00:17:52
Speaker
Like matching pictures.
00:17:54
Speaker
Like it's just like everything comes around.
00:17:56
Speaker
And so when you have that energy and you have that need, it's like it's literally a magnet.
00:18:02
Speaker
And I felt very just...
00:18:05
Speaker
Like, this is where I need to be.
00:18:07
Speaker
Kind of like how you were describing that feeling of when you were at the school in Berkeley.
00:18:12
Speaker
Like, yep, this is what I'm here for a reason.
00:18:15
Speaker
And I'm just very grateful for you for this whole thing.
00:18:20
Speaker
It's been life changing for me.
00:18:22
Speaker
Well, even the reason why we have this podcast is
00:18:27
Speaker
is because of the journey that we went through and just like you know developing and honing into our psychic abilities and owning that space so you in the school you are like i think one of the like the biggest part of who we are and what we do today too well seriously when you take a spiritual journey you actually uh are serious about it you know because a lot of people are dilettantes
00:18:51
Speaker
You know, they try this, they try that, they do a whole bunch of 10, 12, you know, 15 different things, and they say, oh, yeah, I'm getting my information, my psychic stuff, but they're really not, or my spiritual information, because you have to focus on something and delve into it in a deeper way, you know, and so if people do that,
00:19:12
Speaker
you know, you grow and you change a lot.
00:19:15
Speaker
And like our goal is to give people tools, you know, meditation healing tools so that you can use them in your everyday life and in your meditation life.
00:19:25
Speaker
Because meditation is really, from my perspective, the bridge between who you are as spirit and then your everyday life.
00:19:31
Speaker
So you've got a way to connect your spirituality and your everyday life.
00:19:36
Speaker
And then you can use those tools either way in either space.
00:19:40
Speaker
And so that's really our goal.
00:19:44
Speaker
And to have people get their own information, be independent spiritually, because there's a lot of, I would say most spiritual organizations have some sort of a master teacher or guru or something like that.
00:19:58
Speaker
But then that ties the person into that, to that person for a lengthy period of time, depending on how long they're in that organization.
00:20:07
Speaker
Yeah.
00:20:07
Speaker
But that's not our goal.
00:20:09
Speaker
I don't want to be anybody's guru or master teacher or anything.
00:20:13
Speaker
And neither does anyone on our staff, you know, because that's not where we're coming from.
00:20:18
Speaker
So it's a different orientation, I guess, in some places, you know, because our goal is to have people be free for themselves and to create their own, you know, information around their spirituality and how that applies to their everyday life.
00:20:33
Speaker
So, you know, that's really where we're coming from.
00:20:37
Speaker
Yeah, did I ever share with you, Laura, how you did call me out to actually go into the program?
00:20:45
Speaker
So Shannon mentioned, so I went to Psychic Horizons because Shannon recommended, you know, so we're like, oh, you know, let's go to the school, get our auras read.
00:20:58
Speaker
And I thought it was just like fascinating.
00:21:00
Speaker
Then we went to also the free intro to meditation class.
00:21:04
Speaker
And then Shannon, she signed up for classes right away.
00:21:07
Speaker
Right.
00:21:08
Speaker
But and I kept, but I didn't.
00:21:12
Speaker
back in 2015.
00:21:14
Speaker
And then I used to come to healing clinic every week.
00:21:18
Speaker
And you would always be like, Oh, hi, welcome back.
00:21:21
Speaker
But then there was one day you look me in the eye and you said, you should really take classes here.
00:21:29
Speaker
And you were like, you're so serious.
00:21:31
Speaker
Like, you know, when a mother comes like, you have to do this.
00:21:35
Speaker
And then that was like the time when I was like asking the universe, give me a sign and stuff like that.
00:21:41
Speaker
I'm like,
00:21:41
Speaker
I think this is very clear.
00:21:43
Speaker
What is it that I have to do?
00:21:46
Speaker
And I think after you said that, I'm like, okay, let me just get my reading and I come back with my wallet.
00:21:52
Speaker
I'm like, okay, I'm going to sign up.
00:21:54
Speaker
So I was like, right away.
00:21:56
Speaker
That's funny.
00:21:57
Speaker
I will occasionally do that with people because they keep coming back.
00:22:00
Speaker
You know what I'm saying?
00:22:02
Speaker
Why do we teach people how to read in the first place so they don't have to depend on anyone else?
00:22:07
Speaker
You know, so you want to learn how to read so you can see what's going on with you in your own energy space and not have to go to someone else to get that information.
00:22:17
Speaker
So you want to get it from yourself.
00:22:19
Speaker
So if somebody keeps coming over and over and over, say, okay, it's time.
00:22:22
Speaker
You know, it's time to get your own energy.
00:22:24
Speaker
That was me.

Spiritual Training and Personal Growth

00:22:26
Speaker
That was me.
00:22:29
Speaker
I think I went once and I was like, yep, I'm going to do this.
00:22:32
Speaker
When Zach read me, I was like, I need to learn how to do this.
00:22:36
Speaker
This is literally the best thing I've ever discovered.
00:22:39
Speaker
It's almost like I don't remember who I was before the program.
00:22:43
Speaker
It's really kind of, I mean, I do, and I am the same person, but I feel like I've done the program kind of
00:22:51
Speaker
it almost forces you to just look at the things that you don't want to look at.
00:22:55
Speaker
But in a very, sometimes it's like, you know, the kick in the butt that you need and like the call out that you need to face a lot of the stuff that you've been avoiding.
00:23:06
Speaker
And for me, I can, I can be an avoidant person when it comes to my shadow work and like things that I'm like, you know,
00:23:14
Speaker
Avoiding.
00:23:14
Speaker
Like, I know it's happening, but I'm going to just act like it's not.
00:23:18
Speaker
And so a lot of the work that we did and that we do at Psychic Horizons is it's showing a mirror to and it's every every person that I read.
00:23:30
Speaker
It was like, oh, I needed to read this person so that I can get that information for myself and discover like this is something that I need to heal.
00:23:39
Speaker
I need to release this information.
00:23:41
Speaker
It's not even my own information.
00:23:42
Speaker
Whatever came up every week in class, in the readings, in the healing clinic,
00:23:48
Speaker
And it just it just creates more space for for for what's happening now, what needs to happen now.
00:23:54
Speaker
And I think it was it's literally I keep to everyone who I talked about it who wants to listen, you know, because I'm not one to like project my space.
00:24:03
Speaker
spiritual beliefs on other people.
00:24:04
Speaker
I try to create space for myself and create space for others in that moment.
00:24:08
Speaker
But if anyone, you know, for anyone who actually wants to talk about this, like I can't even explain like how, how this program has literally changed my life and it forced me to be in my body and it, from there, it's just like shifted.
00:24:21
Speaker
Boom, boom, boom.
00:24:22
Speaker
And yeah, I'm, I'm actually going to go back and start the teacher and training.
00:24:26
Speaker
So not to call out my own stuff, but I'm very excited about that.
00:24:30
Speaker
She came back.
00:24:31
Speaker
I knew it.
00:24:33
Speaker
Lily is a teacher now too.
00:24:35
Speaker
I am a teacher.
00:24:36
Speaker
And the most interesting thing is that I would never imagine.
00:24:40
Speaker
I just went in just like, okay, let's just see where this goes.
00:24:44
Speaker
And I just went from one class to the next and look where we are today.
00:24:49
Speaker
But just to kind of just touch back into the basics, Lauren, I know we've been going back and forth about in regards like the things that we went through, but if you could just like explain to the listeners, what
00:25:02
Speaker
You know, what classes do we offer and what other events that we offer at the school?
00:25:10
Speaker
Well, I'll just talk about some of the principles, you know, because most people, especially these days with all the social media and all the distractions and everything, you know, most people's focus is in a whole bunch of different places at one time, right?
00:25:27
Speaker
So you're scattered, your attention is scattered.
00:25:29
Speaker
But, you know, your attention is how you create your life.
00:25:33
Speaker
So if your attention is scattered, then how you're creating your life is scattered.

Key Principles of Meditation at Psychic Horizons

00:25:38
Speaker
And so...
00:25:40
Speaker
One of the main principles is to teach you how to teach anyone how to focus your attention in one place.
00:25:47
Speaker
But it's a place without any judgment.
00:25:49
Speaker
So it's neutrality.
00:25:50
Speaker
So you're not judging yourself or judging somebody else.
00:25:52
Speaker
Because if you're in judgment all the time, you're creating from judgment.
00:25:55
Speaker
Right.
00:25:56
Speaker
And so that changes your perspective.
00:25:59
Speaker
If everything's, you know, everything's you're judging everything.
00:26:03
Speaker
So one main principle is to learn how to stay focused in one space so that you're in charge of your thoughts.
00:26:11
Speaker
You're in charge of where you go with your thoughts.
00:26:14
Speaker
So that, for example, if your thoughts are always constantly going to being worried, then that worry creates more worry, right?
00:26:22
Speaker
And it creates stress in your life.
00:26:24
Speaker
Yeah.
00:26:25
Speaker
So let's learn how to be focused and then how to be grounded.
00:26:29
Speaker
So what does that mean?
00:26:30
Speaker
It means how do you as spirit get into your body so that you are with yourself?
00:26:35
Speaker
You're present.
00:26:36
Speaker
You're aware.
00:26:37
Speaker
You've got consciousness so that you're not spaced out all the time.
00:26:43
Speaker
If you're spaced out, then how can you really be in your life?
00:26:47
Speaker
And so those are the other main principle is grounding.
00:26:50
Speaker
I mean, excuse me, boundaries.
00:26:52
Speaker
How do you have boundaries?
00:26:53
Speaker
Because, you know, let's say you're you know, your friend is getting a divorce.
00:26:57
Speaker
And so you get all involved in the divorce and you take on this person's energy in your space.
00:27:02
Speaker
So then you get all stressed out because your friend's having a divorce.
00:27:05
Speaker
you know, or there's something going on at work and there's a lot of things going on at work and people are, you know, upset about something or they're unhappy.
00:27:15
Speaker
So then you take all that energy into your own space and then you become upset and you become unhappy.
00:27:19
Speaker
So then you've got three things.
00:27:20
Speaker
You've got your friend's divorce, you've got all this stuff from work, you know, the unhappiness.
00:27:25
Speaker
And then you've got a family member.
00:27:28
Speaker
And so something is going on with the family member.
00:27:30
Speaker
And so you merge with them and you take on their energy.
00:27:33
Speaker
And then there's all this stuff in the outside world.
00:27:35
Speaker
You know, there's politics and there's Ukraine and there's... And then you take in all that energy.
00:27:39
Speaker
You worry about inflation.
00:27:40
Speaker
You take in all that stuff.
00:27:42
Speaker
Imagine how crowded your energy gets, right?
00:27:44
Speaker
It's not even yours.
00:27:46
Speaker
It's all this other stuff.
00:27:48
Speaker
So how can you not be stressful if you've got all this stuff in your space?
00:27:52
Speaker
You're going to be stressed out.
00:27:54
Speaker
So you need to have boundaries in how to clean out your energy space so that you're coming from who you are, not from all this other stuff in your space that's not even yours.
00:28:03
Speaker
So we teach all that stuff in the very beginning class, step one.
00:28:08
Speaker
Wow, all of that.
00:28:09
Speaker
And more.
00:28:11
Speaker
And more.
00:28:16
Speaker
Meditation, of course, is all done in meditation.
00:28:19
Speaker
So you learn how to bring in energy from the earth, which is your physical body, your physical self, and energy from the cosmos, which is your spiritual self.
00:28:27
Speaker
So how do you integrate your spiritual self and your physical self?
00:28:31
Speaker
This is one of the ways you do it.
00:28:33
Speaker
is through this meditation practice and so until you learn all this stuff in the very beginning class i've i taught this very beginning class for like 40 years or maybe more i don't know but i love it because people go through so many changes in that one class you know because if you all of a sudden get centered and grounded you have boundaries wow that's and you can clean out your energy space that's a huge change huge change
00:29:00
Speaker
And then you learn how to release emotional charge off your pastime memories, experiences, so you don't keep recreating based on the past.
00:29:10
Speaker
Because you create according to the predominant energy in your space.
00:29:14
Speaker
So let's clean that out so you get more present.
00:29:17
Speaker
You're not creating based on what happened in the past.
00:29:20
Speaker
So all that stuff you learn in this step one class.
00:29:22
Speaker
So it's a great place to begin.
00:29:26
Speaker
And not only that, there's this free intro class.
00:29:29
Speaker
Yeah.
00:29:30
Speaker
And this free intro class every Tuesday night, 730.
00:29:32
Speaker
You learn how to get centered and grounded and release something you don't want.
00:29:38
Speaker
So right there, you've got a lot of stuff you can use the rest of your life, even if you didn't take any other class.
00:29:45
Speaker
But if you take a step one class, you learn everything I just talked about.
00:29:51
Speaker
And then the classes, you know, after that, you can learn more and more tools and healing techniques.
00:29:58
Speaker
And then people can go into the Clairvoyant training program for if you want to get really more immersed in all of this, which is a lot of what you all are talking about because it's life-changing.
00:30:08
Speaker
And because there's so much work to be done internally and everything that happens on the inside is reflected on the outside.
00:30:15
Speaker
And that's why meditation is so powerful because, you know, if you make a change inside, you're going to manifest that in your everyday life outside.
00:30:25
Speaker
It doesn't go from the outside and it always goes from the inside out.
00:30:28
Speaker
And so that's why meditation is so powerful because it always goes inside out.
00:30:33
Speaker
And so you meditate, you heal yourself, you clean things out, you release things that are no longer in present time for you.
00:30:41
Speaker
And guess what?
00:30:42
Speaker
That manifests on the outside, whether it's relationship issues, money issues, work issues, whatever it is, health issues, it's all going to work that way.
00:30:53
Speaker
And so that's why we work with your spiritual information, your spiritual principles, and whatever experiences you've had in your life, your past time experiences, even past life experiences, which are affecting you now.
00:31:04
Speaker
And so you get to work with all that and get more present.
00:31:08
Speaker
And of course, that is reflected in what's going on with you.
00:31:12
Speaker
And so you're no longer stressed out by your family's divorce.
00:31:15
Speaker
You're no longer stressed out by whatever's happening at work.
00:31:18
Speaker
And I'm teaching this class coming up called How to Live a Stress-Free Life.
00:31:23
Speaker
Perfect timing.
00:31:25
Speaker
Some of the principles, you know, where you can lead a stress-free life.
00:31:30
Speaker
And so it's really exciting because it actually works.
00:31:35
Speaker
So we call this meditation that benefits your everyday life.
00:31:40
Speaker
And it's really true.

Adapting Classes and Inclusivity During COVID

00:31:41
Speaker
It really is.
00:31:43
Speaker
It is.
00:31:43
Speaker
I don't even know how I would go through my life and my issues without the tools.
00:31:49
Speaker
I'm always like, oh, my God, imagine if I didn't have the tools and the techniques, where would I be?
00:31:55
Speaker
lots of issues in their lives.
00:31:56
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:32:03
Speaker
And so I feel like we've had such a great conversation with you today, Laura.
00:32:07
Speaker
Thank you so much again for, for being, you know, willing to come on and share your story because, uh,
00:32:14
Speaker
through this whole process of us starting this podcast, it's been a very healing experience, at least for me in my fifth chakra.
00:32:20
Speaker
And, and when you are psychic and when you do have, or at least a teacher of, of psychic, you know, frameworks and practices, it can be a very cherished thing.
00:32:31
Speaker
So we really appreciate you being willing to share your story, your background, your experiences, and how you got started and how you started Psychic Horizons.
00:32:39
Speaker
And,
00:32:40
Speaker
you know, just we're so grateful that you literally, it pays it forward, you know, that phrase of paying it forward, like the school, you have paid it forward to so many people.
00:32:50
Speaker
And then therefore we're all paying it forward to how we interact with people from the tools that we've gotten and learned at Psychic Horizons.
00:32:59
Speaker
And I just couldn't be more grateful for, for everything that you've done.
00:33:04
Speaker
You're welcome.
00:33:04
Speaker
And you know, we, we as teachers, we,
00:33:07
Speaker
learn have to do it this practice ourselves right because we couldn't teach what we're not doing and so we are growing as as a staff all the teachers you know grow themselves and so it's very rewarding for us you know also and so it's been it's been a very interesting journey i have to say
00:33:25
Speaker
So it's not over yet.
00:33:28
Speaker
Yeah, it's not over yet.
00:33:29
Speaker
Like so many more years to come.
00:33:31
Speaker
And yeah, where so what's what's happening currently?
00:33:35
Speaker
We'll kind of wrap up with this question of what's happening currently at Psychic Horizons and and kind of, you know, in the near and we try not to go into to future time here, but in the near future.
00:33:46
Speaker
Well, we start our classes every couple months, you know, and then Lily, of course, teaches a free intro class that happens every week.
00:33:53
Speaker
We've got healing clinics every week.
00:33:55
Speaker
We have readings every week, all different kinds.
00:33:58
Speaker
And because of COVID, we've been on Zoom for three years.
00:34:03
Speaker
Boy, it's been a long time.
00:34:04
Speaker
And now we're looking at, you know, how to open up a little bit more so people can come in, you know, a little bit more.
00:34:10
Speaker
And so we're looking at that.
00:34:12
Speaker
And we're having our fundraiser drive right now, which we have annually, which is always fun.
00:34:17
Speaker
We have a great time, you know, get together, whether it's in person or Zoom, we always have a great time.
00:34:24
Speaker
And we have church services once a month, you know, they're spiritually oriented, not to preach at anybody, but to allow you to get your own information about your own spiritual growth.
00:34:33
Speaker
Mm-hmm.
00:34:34
Speaker
And so it's all, everything's based on that.
00:34:36
Speaker
So we have lots of things going.
00:34:38
Speaker
We've got seven-week classes.
00:34:39
Speaker
We have a clairvoyant training program, all these, everything else I've been telling you about.
00:34:44
Speaker
We have graduate classes for people who finish clairvoyant training.
00:34:47
Speaker
We have teacher and training program, apprenticeship program.
00:34:50
Speaker
So a lot of stuff going on, you know, for any level.
00:34:53
Speaker
Somebody can come to one class and maybe that's it.
00:34:55
Speaker
That's all they do.
00:34:56
Speaker
Some people come to three classes and that's all they do.
00:34:59
Speaker
Some people come to three classes and take what we call a focus class, a post foundation class so that they can keep their tools going and everything.
00:35:10
Speaker
And then some people go and do clear-wind training.
00:35:12
Speaker
So it's all kind of levels.
00:35:14
Speaker
It's something for everybody.
00:35:15
Speaker
And that's how we like it.
00:35:17
Speaker
So you can go to whatever level you want.
00:35:20
Speaker
yeah where can we find you on social media or the website our website is psychic horizons.com and we have social we have a facebook page uh psychic horizons sf and dot com i think it is or psychic horizons sf on facebook and then we've got an instagram what's our instagram
00:35:41
Speaker
like psychic horizons by the way i help with social media so instagrams on at psychic horizons on facebook we have our psychic horizons page and we also have a group page so it's psychic horizon san francisco and we have a youtube channel too youtube channel we got a google page
00:36:05
Speaker
And, you know, I guess that's about it.
00:36:08
Speaker
We've never done a lot of social media until more recently.
00:36:11
Speaker
Yeah.
00:36:14
Speaker
Lily's really contributing to that.
00:36:16
Speaker
Thank you very much.
00:36:17
Speaker
Of course.
00:36:18
Speaker
I love it.
00:36:19
Speaker
I think the more people know, the better.
00:36:22
Speaker
I agree.
00:36:23
Speaker
And the interesting thing is we've got a lot of international students.
00:36:27
Speaker
Now we've got students from Dubai, interestingly enough.
00:36:30
Speaker
There are a lot of people interested in Dubai with spiritual work.
00:36:34
Speaker
We have people, and one of our teachers is from Dubai.
00:36:38
Speaker
And we have some graduates from Dubai and current students.
00:36:41
Speaker
And then we have somebody from Turkey.

and different places.
00:36:52
Speaker
So it's really exciting to have all these international flavors.
00:36:56
Speaker
It's really kind of neat.
00:36:57
Speaker
So, yeah.

Speaker
Everyone is welcome.
00:37:06
Speaker
Everyone is welcome.

Speaker

00:37:11
Speaker

00:37:13
Speaker

00:37:19
Speaker
judging you when you come, you know, you can just be who you are.

00:37:35
Speaker
And like, it just was very apparent, like this is such a safe space.
00:37:40
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:41
Speaker
Yeah.
00:37:42
Speaker
So whether it's online or in person, and we hope to do more in person.
00:37:46
Speaker
So we'll see what happens.
00:37:48
Speaker
So that's exciting.
00:37:49

00:37:52
Speaker
We really appreciate it.
