Introduction to Mold and Mycotoxins

00:00:00
Speaker
We'll briefly discuss mold and mycotoxins. So mold are fungi that basically grow in buildings on our food.

Impact of Mycotoxins on Food Supply

00:00:09
Speaker
They produce toxins called mycotoxins and they're pretty much the most prevalent toxins in our environment. They're quite inescapable.
00:00:18
Speaker
The thing about mycotoxins is they're heat resistant. So they grow on a lot of crops in the field. And then when we harvest those crops, they might get processed. They might get ground up. They might get cooked, baked. But these mycotoxins are very heat

resistant. So they contaminate our food supply to a great extent.

Speaker
Of course, we just get exposed to them through inhalation because they grow inside buildings, especially those that have had some water damage.

Mycotoxins and Autism - Is There a Link?

00:00:54
Speaker
Now, in terms of the research, there's been a few studies that I've seen that have looked at mycotoxins in autistic children.

and a couple of them have found some correlation between the autism and the mycotoxins. There's more research that needs to be done, but whether or not in the end we discover that mycotoxins are contributing to autism for a subset of the children is not so important because what is more important is to understand that mycotoxins simply contribute to poor health, whether or not someone is autistic or not.

Reducing Mycotoxin Exposure - What's Next?

00:01:31
Speaker
So it is important to be aware of mycotoxins and do what you can to reduce your child's exposure to them. So in later videos, we'll cover what are the most common sources in our diet of mycotoxins, how to detect mycotoxins with urine testing and some basic mode protocols when and if hopefully you don't have to face this problem. But if you do, if you detect them with

a urine test to what the actual mold protocol is to help your child with that. And here's those two studies that I mentioned that are finding some connection between mycotoxins and autism.
