17. The One Where Messy Action Beats Perfection

This week on The Mindful Educator Podcast, I’m sharing something a little different—more of a heart-to-heart reflection. Over the past few weeks, I’ve stepped into new territory: running my very first online group program for adults.

Here’s the thing—old me would’ve sat on this idea for months, maybe even years. I would’ve overthought every detail, tried to make it perfect, and worried endlessly about what people might think if it didn’t succeed. But this time? I did the complete opposite. I trusted my gut, moved quickly, and within just three weeks had women signing up.

In this episode, I talk about:
✨ Why I stopped waiting for “perfect” and embraced messy action
✨ The difference between forcing something vs. following intuition
✨ What my body taught me about alignment and when to say yes or no
✨ How I handled the pressure differently compared to 4–5 years ago
✨ The resilience that comes with self-development and mindfulness tools
✨ The importance of listening to our inner knowing—even when outside voices say otherwise

I’ll also share the story of a friend who gave me the little nudge I needed to leap, and how that single conversation helped me stop ignoring what had been calling me for months.

This is an episode for anyone who has an idea, a dream, or a little “niggle” they keep pushing aside. Consider this your reminder to pay attention to those signals—because when something is aligned, it will feel lighter, clearer, and more right in your body.

So grab a cuppa, settle in, and let’s chat about the power of action, intuition, and trusting yourself to take the next step.

Introduction and Podcast Milestones

00:00:37
Victoria R
Hello everyone, welcome back to the Mindful Educator podcast. i this has been going now for over four months, which... kind of blows my mind. I've been very consistent with her, which is totally not like me.
00:00:51
Victoria R
um But I hope that you guys are enjoying listening to the episodes each week. And as I've mentioned before, if you do have any suggestions for guests that you would like me to have on the podcast, please let me know.
00:01:02
Victoria R
um I'm always looking for people to interview and have a chat with. um And I guess my style of interview, so to speak, is just literally have a have a conversation, kind of see where it goes.
00:01:13
Victoria R
So if you know someone that might be a good fit, please reach out and let me know, even if you think that might be yourself. Jump in the emails and let me know. um But today's episode, I just kind of wanted to have a bit of a chat in general, or just about some things that I've noticed um regarding what's kind of happening in my life and some changes that I've noticed and my responses to them as well and how it's different from what it used to be.

Launching an Adult Group Program

00:01:40
Victoria R
So the last few weeks have been a bit full on for me. I decided um looking at the year and what was kind of left of the year, which isn't very long. It's only about like three and a half to four months, but um that I wanted to do a first round of a group program.
00:02:00
Victoria R
Now I haven't actually run a group program online. Obviously my teaching background, I do lots of teaching. And I do group programs with children, but this was one that I wanted to do for adults.
00:02:14
Victoria R
Now, normally i would have been stuck in my mind for months, for months and months and months. This would have just been an idea that I thought of that didn't actually happen because I would be overthinking it.
00:02:28
Victoria R
I would be trying to make it perfect. I would be trying to get it out, you know, in such a way that you know, if no one signed up or if whatever it might be, it would absolutely just devastate me.
00:02:43
Victoria R
And I have pretty much done the complete opposite this time. i had an idea and I think within less than three weeks, i started the program.
00:02:54
Victoria R
All right. Which When you come at it from a business slash launch point of view, probably wasn't enough time.

Inspiration and Trusting Intuition

00:03:02
Victoria R
But in saying that, I still got people, incredible women signing up to do this.
00:03:08
Victoria R
And I think it just goes to show you that even though my action was really messy action, I wasn't waiting for perfect. I wasn't you know overthinking it. I knew what people needed and I've put it out there.
00:03:22
Victoria R
I've taken the action no matter what. I've taken that first step. And for me, that was actually a really huge thing. Like I, when it comes to presenting things, I do like things to be just so. And I do have lots of ideas that come through and some of them take a little bit of time and some of them don't.
00:03:40
Victoria R
So the fact that I managed to do that, I was actually like, oh, wow, I've actually done this. And we had our first call the other day and it was so good. It was actually, I really, really loved it. And it just reminded me that this is the sort of stuff I love. I love it so much.
00:03:59
Victoria R
And I actually have one of my friends to thank for it because I was chatting to her after doing an interview with her, funnily enough, and we're just talking and I'm just like, oh, you know, it it just keeps coming into my mind, like a group program, it just keeps coming up.
00:04:15
Victoria R
And she's like, well, why don't you just do it? And I'm like, well, everyone keeps telling me that I need to do this, this and this before I can do this. And she's like, Victoria, just go and do it, like. And I you know what?
00:04:27
Victoria R
I will. So thank you, Renee, if you're listening. I do appreciate that conversation um because that was kind of the like, you know what? my My intuition, my instincts are telling me that this is the right call for me.
00:04:40
Victoria R
Everyone else was telling me no. So the coaches, everyone else was like, no, no, no, you're not ready. You don't have a warm audience. You don't have this. You don't have that. Whereas deep down, it was It felt right for me and it kept coming up. This is something that has been coming up for months. It's not just been like a one-off. It's actually been pretty consistent. I'm like, oh, a group program, group program, group program. It just kept coming up.
00:05:06
Victoria R
And thanks to that conversation with Renee, I was like, you know what? Let's just do it. If it balls up, it's okay. If it doesn't work, it's okay. Either way, I'm going to have a wicked um webinar that I can put on my website And I'm gonna have some amazing content that I can then use and these modules can be used for something

Learning from Past Failures

00:05:28
Victoria R
else. Like no matter what, it was going to be worthwhile.
00:05:32
Victoria R
And this whole way of thinking actually blows my mind that I was able to handle it like this. And the reason why is because about five four or five years ago, i actually tried to launch a membership.
00:05:46
Victoria R
The difference was I was not in the right head space. i I, I felt it felt wrong. That's probably the best way to put it. If I listen, if I'd actually taken the time to listen properly, it felt really wrong. It felt like i was trying to push shit up a hill, to be honest.
00:06:06
Victoria R
And that's not the kind of feeling that you want to have when you're trying to do something new. It just didn't sit right. And as a result, it was a total flop.
00:06:17
Victoria R
And I was not in the right headspace for that. right? It devastated me. I was like, I was questioning my self-worth. I was questioning, why am I even doing this?
00:06:29
Victoria R
You know, all those thoughts were coming through, which again is totally, totally normal when things don't go the way that you think they might be. But I kind of was like, I was really devastated. I was really upset by it. And I wasn't able to see that there was a silver lining in any of it.

Mindfulness and Personal Growth

00:06:47
Victoria R
Whereas this time around, my perspective has changed a lot. Even if I didn't have anyone sign up, I was going to be okay with that. And I was going to be okay with knowing that maybe i my messaging wasn't right or maybe I just need a kind of try something a little bit different. And as it turned out, my messaging was right, ah has been right because it has drawn in the people that need this. So that change of perspective, that change of my resilience in handling that,
00:07:19
Victoria R
has actually been really interesting to observe because like I said, a few years ago, ah totally different story. And Don't get me wrong. Like last week was full on I was drawing on own calming and mindfulness techniques all throughout. I was a lot crankier than normal. And my family will probably tell you that because obviously i had put that pressure on to kind of like, right, we've got this long to do it Let's do it.
00:07:50
Victoria R
So in hindsight, I would give myself a little bit more time, but Lessons in everything. Honestly, lessons are in everything. It worked out the way it was meant to work out. And I'm happy with the lessons that I've taken from it.
00:08:06
Victoria R
So i just wanted to kind of go yeah, like I'm actually really proud of the fact that my nervous system is at a point where it can actually handle this so much better than what it used to be able to.
00:08:21
Victoria R
I can have those techniques that I draw on to regulate myself a lot better. I know when that pressure is building up. And for me, I almost turned into a bit of a gym junkie last week because I knew that I needed to get that energy and that frustration, that pressure out some way. So a lot of exercise was done last week, um which is not a problem. wasn't a bad thing at all because it was actually a really good release for me.
00:08:52
Victoria R
And I just think, gosh, how different to the way that I would have handled that, like that four or five years ago when I did try launching that membership. It was just such an interesting um comparison to see.
00:09:03
Victoria R
And just, yeah, I just, there is definitely, there is definitely a lot to be had and done when you're doing the self-development work. It does work.
00:09:18
Victoria R
And I think this to me has been such a good evidence, um, of that because the way I was able to move through and handle it, and yes, i I do still have those things, those voices in my head that, you know, plant that seed of doubt and plant that questioning and whatever it might be.
00:09:38
Victoria R
But I now have the tools to kind of go, oh, I get

The Power of Inner Intuition

00:09:42
Victoria R
it. Thank you. I'm choosing not to not to take that on board though. I'm kind of rejecting those thoughts at the moment.
00:09:49
Victoria R
And it was also a really big thing for me to actually go against what everyone else was saying and really listen to myself. And I think that was such a key piece in it. And I'm so glad I have my friend there to kind of give me that little push because I wouldn't have done it. I would have kept listening to these other voices. And even though they it didn't sit right, I would have been like, oh, but they know better because they've been doing this longer than I have.
00:10:14
Victoria R
And I think that's where it also is a really important piece that we always come back to ou ourselves, our own intuition, our own inner knowing, because especially as women, we ah so much more onto that than what we give ourselves credit for. And I think we really need to kind of just take that time to acknowledge our inner knowing and our intuition and what it's really telling us and work out what's a yes and what's a no for me and,
00:10:42
Victoria R
if this idea keeps coming up, why does it keep coming up? Is this trying to tell me something? You know, all those little signs that we get that we kind of brush aside. I think this is something that we need to really make sure we're paying more attention to.
00:10:55
Victoria R
and I had been pushing those aside and it wasn't until someone else was like, and you know, obviously i was meant to have that conversation that day and I was, it worked out the way it was meant to work out.
00:11:07
Victoria R
And who knows, who knows what's going to be coming up in the future, but I'm just so stoked that I listened and it was what was needed at the time.
00:11:19
Victoria R
Um, slightly like toot my own horn here, but I think it's like, it's nice to sit there and just feel that pride because I don't often do that. And, I'm like, oh, yeah, it was actually a really good decision to make. And I'm glad that I did do it.
00:11:36
Victoria R
And it's got me so excited for what's coming up. And I mean, to be fair, the rest of the year is a bit full on. But I'm so excited about planning for future things. And it's been really interesting, actually, just hearing feedback and kind of working out what people are wanting or not wanting and what will help and won't help. And at the end of the day, that's why I'm here doing this. I really want to be able to help other people to be living their best lives.
00:12:06
Victoria R
Like I know it sounds cliche, but that honestly is why I've kind of started doing all of this.

Celebrating Success and Alignment

00:12:12
Victoria R
So my i guess my lesson, my message for you to take away from all of this, if there's something that has been niggling at you,
00:12:20
Victoria R
if there is something that keeps coming up in your mind or keeps coming up in your body, pay attention to it. All right, pay attention to those niggles, to those little messages that are trying to come through.
00:12:36
Victoria R
And one thing I did forget to mention is when I did try, and maybe i did mention it, I don't know, my head's all over the place. But when I did try and launch that membership like four or five years ago, it felt really heavy in my body.
00:12:49
Victoria R
um And that's one way, like for me personally, this is one way I know whether something's right for me or not. um If I feel like there's a huge weight on me, on my shoulders, in my stomach, everywhere, it's not right for me.
00:13:04
Victoria R
And I've learned that over the years. That is my body's surefire way of telling me it's not aligned. It's not for me. And it's taken me a while to work that out, but now I can recognize that.
00:13:17
Victoria R
And back when I did try and launch that previously, that's what it felt like. It just felt heavy. It felt, it felt wrong in my body. All right. So I Pay attention to those signals. Hopefully if something is right for you, you will have a clear signal or you'll get your um kind of your clear sign that this is what you should be doing.
00:13:38
Victoria R
um And just like i said, pay attention. We can always seem to kind of ignore it. Let's not. All right. So is there any area of your life that you're finding is feeling bit out of alignment? Maybe you get that heavy feeling or something similar.
00:13:57
Victoria R
And if there is, how can you look at changing that? All right. How can you look at maybe readjusting where you're going with it, whether you have to do it or not?
00:14:08
Victoria R
All right. Paying attention to how that is feeling within your body and leaning towards what's making you feel good. What's making you feel in alignment. What is giving you those positive signs in your body that this is where you should be. And this is a path that you should be taking.
00:14:25
Victoria R
And, If you do have a good friend the way I did to help get you on the right path, that is always helpful too. Sometimes we just need to stop that outside chatter and just go within and just listen to ourselves.
00:14:41
Victoria R
All right. I hope you've had a great week, everyone. Enjoy the rest of the week and I will speak to you soon.
