Can you believe we're already halfway through the year?

In this special 50th episode of The Mindful Educator, Victoria invites you to pause, reflect and intentionally reset for the next six months.

Life can easily become a cycle of getting up, looking after everyone else, going to work and repeating it all again. Before we know it, months - or even years - have passed without ever asking ourselves whether we're living the life we truly want.

This episode is your reminder that you don't have to stay on autopilot. By creating a clear vision and taking small, intentional steps, you can begin building a life that feels aligned, fulfilling and meaningful.

In this episode:

 * Celebrating 50 episodes of The Mindful Educator
 * Why life feels so busy (and why time disappears)
 * Completing a mid-year life audit
 * Using the Wheel of Life to gain clarity
 * Reviewing your relationships, health, finances, career and personal growth
 * Why your personal life deserves a plan just as much as your business
 * Reverse engineering your goals into achievable actions
 * Reconnecting with hobbies, passions and the things that bring you joy
 * Taking back the driver's seat of your life

Reflection Questions

 * Am I happy with where my life is today?
 * Where do I want to be in 6 - 12 months?
 * What isn't working anymore?
 * What do I need to start doing today to create the life I want?
 * What brings me joy that I've stopped making time for?

This Week's Challenge

Take 30 minutes to reflect on where each area of your life is currently sitting. Choose one to three priorities for the next six months and break them down into small, achievable actions.

Time will keep moving - make sure you're intentionally creating the life you want to live.

50. The One Where You Realise Time Isn't Waiting

In this episode of The Mindful Educator Podcast, Victoria explores the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, and why it matters for both ourselves and the children in our lives.

She unpacks how easy it is to hand our happiness, confidence and sense of success over to outside things - praise, likes, awards, money, grades or recognition - and why this can leave us feeling powerless.

Victoria shares real-life examples around exercise, social media, children’s achievements, rewards, behaviour, business and personal growth, encouraging listeners to reflect on what is truly driving their choices.

This episode is a reminder to come back to yourself, to check in with your “why”, and to build confidence, happiness and fulfilment from within.

In this episode Victoria talks about:

 * The difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation
 * Why external validation can become a trap
 * How social media likes, awards, praise and recognition can influence us
 * Why rewards are not always bad, but should not be our only reason
 * How this shows up in children through behaviour, grades, sport and chores
 * The importance of helping children feel proud of effort, not just outcomes
 * Why doing something for yourself is more sustainable long-term
 * How to stop outsourcing your happiness to other people
 * The power of asking, “Who am I actually doing this for?”

Key Takeaways

Extrinsic motivation comes from outside of us. It might be money, praise, awards, grades, likes, approval or recognition.

Intrinsic motivation comes from within. It is doing something because it feels meaningful, aligned, enjoyable or important to you.

When we rely only on external validation, we hand our power away.

Rewards can be helpful, but they become a problem when they are the only reason we do something.

For children, it is important to help them value effort, growth, resilience and self-pride, not just winning, grades or rewards.

True confidence, happiness and fulfilment need to be built from within first.

49. The One Where We Stop Outsourcing Our Happiness

This week's episode is a little bit of a loving wake-up call.

Victoria dives into a message that may sound harsh at first: no one is coming to save you. But before you switch off, hear her out.

So many of us spend our lives waiting:

 * Waiting for motivation to arrive.
 * Waiting for life to calm down.
 * Waiting for our partner to change.
 * Waiting for the perfect time.
 * Waiting for someone to notice we're struggling and give us permission to rest.

But what if the power you've been searching for has been yours all along?

In this honest and compassionate conversation, Victoria explores the difference between blame and responsibility, how past experiences can shape our patterns, and why reclaiming your power doesn't mean doing everything alone. It means recognising that while you can't always control what happens to you, you can choose what happens next.

If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, resentful, or like life is happening to you, this episode offers the gentle (but firm) reminder that the small choices you make each day are what shape the life you truly want.

Reflection Questions

Take a moment to journal or reflect:

 * Where in my life have I been waiting for someone else to fix things?
 * What have I been hoping will magically change?
 * What is one small action I can take today that moves me closer to the life I want?
 * What support might I need to help me move forward?
 * How can I be both accountable and compassionate with myself?

Remember...

This isn't about guilt, blame or doing everything perfectly.

It's about recognising your own strength.

It's about understanding that healing isn't linear, growth isn't always comfortable, and change often comes through the ordinary moments - the walks, the boundaries, the difficult conversations, the appointments booked, the deep breaths taken and the choices made again and again.

You don't have to overhaul your entire life overnight.

Just take the next step.

Because while no one is coming to save you...

You are far more capable, resilient and powerful than you've been led to believe.

48. No One Is Coming to Save You (And That's Actually Good News)

Have you ever caught yourself reacting in a way that made you stop and think, "Where on earth did that come from?"

Maybe it's the way you handle conflict. The stories you tell yourself about money. The discomfort you feel around emotions. The way you speak to yourself in the mirror.

In this week's episode of The Mindful Educator Podcast, we're diving into the concept of emotional inheritance - the beliefs, behaviours, and thought patterns we unconsciously absorb from the people and environments around us.

Because the truth is, many of the stories we carry aren't actually ours.

Together, we'll explore how to approach these inherited beliefs with curiosity rather than blame, compassion rather than criticism, and awareness rather than autopilot. Because while we can't change where we've come from, we can decide what we carry forward.

In This Episode, We Explore:

 * What emotional inheritance actually is and how it shapes our lives
 * Why curiosity and compassion matter more than blame
 * How our early experiences influence the beliefs we hold today
 * The way children absorb messages from the world around them
 * How conflict was modelled to you growing up - and how that impacts your relationships now
 * Different ways people respond to conflict, including avoidance, shutting down, defensiveness, and people-pleasing
 * The four attachment styles and how they may influence the way you connect with others
 * What you learned about expressing emotions and whether those beliefs still serve you
 * Why discomfort around emotions often has deeper roots
 * The hidden stories many of us carry about money, wealth, and abundance
 * How our beliefs about success shape what we think is possible for us
 * Exploring inherited ideas around gender roles and identity
 * The impact our body image beliefs can have on ourselves and the children watching us
 * Why the language we use—both out loud and internally—matters so much
 * Identifying the beliefs you want to keep and the ones you're ready to release
 * Recognising the triggers that pull you back into old patterns
 * How to consciously create new beliefs that align with the person you want to become
 * Looking for evidence of what's possible through people who are living differently
 * The powerful opportunity we have to break cycles and create a new legacy for future generations

A Gentle Reminder

You don't have to blame your parents, your childhood, or the people who came before you.

Most people were doing the very best they could with the knowledge, tools, and awareness they had at the time.

But now, you get to choose.

You get to decide what stays.
You get to decide what goes.
You get to rewrite the stories that no longer fit.

Because healing isn't about becoming someone new - it's about remembering who you are beneath all the conditioning.

47. The One About Emotional Inheritance: Are These Beliefs Even Yours?

In this deeply personal and exciting episode of the Mindful Educator Podcast, I’m taking you behind the scenes of something that has been on my heart for a very long time… The Mindful Curriculum.

This isn’t just another program or another thing for teachers and parents to add to their already overflowing plates.

This is a mission.

A mission to help children, teachers and families better understand their minds, emotions, bodies, behaviours and relationships — in a way that is practical, empowering and sustainable.

After more than 20 years working with children through teaching, mindfulness, coaching and motherhood itself, I’ve seen firsthand the growing struggles so many children and adults are facing:

 * rising anxiety
 * emotional dysregulation
 * overwhelm
 * disconnection
 * burnout
 * lack of resilience
 * increasing mental health challenges

And the question I keep asking is:
Why are we not teaching people how their minds and bodies actually work?

In this episode, I share:

 * The story behind why I created The Mindful Curriculum
 * What I’ve been witnessing in schools, homes and communities
 * Why supporting children also means supporting parents and teachers
 * The four core pillars of the curriculum
 * How understanding our thoughts, beliefs and emotions can completely change our lives
 * Why resilience and emotional intelligence are essential life skills
 * The importance of physical wellbeing and nervous system regulation
 * Why personal responsibility and social awareness matter more than ever
 * How this curriculum is designed to reduce teacher overwhelm — not add to it
 * My vision for bringing this into schools, homes, daycares and communities across WA (and eventually beyond!)

Calling All Schools, Parents & Communities
If you know of a: school, daycare, homeschooling group, education setting, parent community
that would benefit from The Mindful Curriculum, I would absolutely love to connect.

I’ll be beginning workshops within Western Australia and rolling out the curriculum in stages, with the goal of supporting not just students - but entire school communities.

46. The One About The Mindful Curriculum

In this incredibly insightful and reassuring episode of the Mindful Educator Podcast, I’m joined by Perth-based paediatric dietitian Dr Kyla Smith [https://mealtimes.com.au/experts/?utm_source=chatgpt.com] to chat all things kids, food, mealtimes, body image, fussy eating, and the pressure parents are carrying around “getting it right.”

If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice, stressed about your child’s eating habits, or worried about passing on your own food or body image struggles to your children - this episode is for you.

Dr Kyla brings such a calm, practical and compassionate approach to feeding kids, helping parents move away from fear, guilt and control… and back towards connection, trust and confidence.

Together, we unpack:

 * Why so many children experience fussy eating (and why it’s often more complex than people realise)
 * The difference between supporting children and trying to control them
 * How pressure around food can actually make things harder
 * Why family mealtimes matter - beyond just nutrition
 * How sensory issues, reflux, enlarged tonsils, temperament and other factors can impact eating
 * What parents can do when older children and teens struggle with food
 * How diet culture and body image messaging affect our kids
 * The subtle ways adults accidentally pass food fears and body shame onto children
 * Why neutrality around food and bodies is so important
 * The importance of modelling over lecturing
 * What to look out for when children begin displaying disordered eating behaviours
 * Why parents need support too - and why doing “less” can sometimes be the most powerful thing

One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation?
You do not need to parent perfectly.

As Dr Kyla beautifully reminds us: “Your child’s body is not a problem to fix.”

This episode is packed with practical reassurance, evidence-based advice, and so much compassion for modern parents navigating an incredibly noisy world of information.

45. The One About Feeding Kids Without Fear, Pressure or Perfection (with Dr Kyla)

In this week’s episode of The Mindful Educator podcast, I’m diving into a topic that impacts every single one of us - stress. But not just the obvious stress we often talk about like busy schedules, overwhelm, or mental load. We’re exploring the hidden stressors that may be quietly impacting your body, mind, and nervous system every day without you even realising.

From cleaning products and perfumes to clutter, food, screens, plastics, and even what we consume online - this episode is all about bringing awareness to the little things that can slowly add to our body’s stress load over time.

I share some of the gradual changes we’ve been making in our own home, the trial-and-error process that comes with low-tox living, and why this journey is absolutely not about perfection. It’s about awareness, balance, and making manageable changes that actually work for your life.

This is not an episode designed to guilt or overwhelm you. Instead, it’s an invitation to become more mindful of what’s around you, what you’re consuming, and how it may be affecting your wellbeing.

In This Episode, We Cover:

 * The difference between obvious stress and hidden environmental stressors
 * How cleaning products, perfumes, deodorants, candles, and toiletries may impact the body
 * Why low-tox living doesn’t have to happen overnight
 * The slow process of swapping products and finding what works for you
 * Plastics, food containers, chopping boards, and microplastics
 * Thoughts around food quality, processed foods, fresh produce, and convenience
 * Why clutter and mess can increase stress levels
 * The impact of social media, podcasts, TV, and news consumption on the nervous system
 * Learning to honour your own capacity and reduce information overload
 * The importance of progress over perfection when making lifestyle changes

Key Takeaway

Awareness is powerful. You do not need to overhaul your entire life overnight to support your health and wellbeing. Small, intentional changes over time can have a significant impact - and what works for one person may not work for another. This episode is simply here to encourage curiosity, mindfulness, and informed choices without fear, shame, or perfectionism.

44. The One About Hidden Stressors: What’s Secretly Stressing Your Body?

In this honest and heartfelt solo episode of the podcast, Victoria opens up about a week that felt heavy, overwhelming, and emotionally exhausting - and the surprising realisation that so many other women were feeling exactly the same way.

From mental load and burnout, to the pressure women place on themselves to “do it all,” this episode is a powerful reminder that constantly sacrificing ourselves for everyone else is not sustainable… and it’s not the way life is meant to feel.

Victoria shares her own mini-meltdown moment, the emotional release that came through a transformative breathwork session, and the important wake-up call that followed: something has to change.

This episode explores: ✨ Why so many women are running on empty ✨ The hidden emotional build-up behind overwhelm and burnout ✨ The mental load women carry every single day ✨ Learning to delegate and share responsibility within the household ✨ Why “done differently” doesn’t mean “done wrong” ✨ The importance of boundaries, rest, and nervous system regulation ✨ The guilt many women feel around slowing down ✨ Why self-sacrifice has become so normalised in society ✨ Raising children to contribute and take responsibility ✨ Letting go of perfection and control ✨ The importance of checking in with your capacity ✨ Small ways to begin filling your own cup again ✨ Reflecting on the life you actually want to be living

This conversation is a reminder that: 🤍 You are allowed to rest 🤍 You are allowed to ask for help 🤍 You are allowed to stop doing everything 🤍 You are allowed to create a life that feels good for you too

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, emotionally exhausted, or like you’ve completely lost yourself in the constant “doing,” this episode is for you.

43. The One Where We Stop Sacrificing Ourselves

In this short and punchy solo episode, Victoria dives into something we all experience - putting things off, overthinking, and building simple tasks up into something far bigger than they need to be.

After sharing her own honest (and very relatable) struggle with getting back to the gym, she unpacks how quickly our minds can create excuses, distractions, and stories that keep us stuck.

This episode is your reminder that sometimes… the answer isn’t more planning, more thinking, or more “perfect timing.”

Sometimes, it’s simply: just do the thing.

In This Episode, We Cover:

 * How easily we build small tasks into overwhelming obstacles
 * The fine line between valid reasons and self-sabotage
 * The role of self-awareness in catching your own excuses
 * “Paralysis by analysis” and how overthinking keeps us stuck
 * Why action creates momentum (and motivation follows after)
 * A simple mental trick to help you move through resistance
 * Real-life examples of pushing through discomfort (gym, bungee jumping, everyday tasks)

Questions to Reflect On:

 * What have I been putting off that I know would make me feel better?
 * Is this a genuine reason… or an excuse?
 * What’s one thing I could do today that would take less than 10 minutes?
 * Where am I overthinking instead of taking action?

Your Challenge:

Pick one thing you’ve been avoiding - big or small - and just do it today.

No overthinking.
No overplanning.
No waiting for the “right time.”

👉 Count it down if you need to: 3… 2… 1… go.

Final Thoughts

This episode is your loving nudge (or kick up the butt 😉) to stop delaying and start doing.

Because the truth is…
You already know what to do.

Now it’s time to follow through.

42. The One Where You Just Do the Thing

In this incredibly important and eye-opening episode, I’m joined by Kristi McVee - a former WA police officer, child abuse detective, and now child safety educator.

Kristi spent over a decade working closely with children and families in some of the most confronting situations imaginable. Through her experience, she developed a deep understanding of how grooming happens, what red flags to look for, and - most importantly - what actually helps protect children.

This is one of those conversations that may feel uncomfortable at times… but it’s also one that every parent, educator, and caregiver truly needs to hear.

Because when we understand more, we can do more.

💡 In This Episode, We Cover:

 * Why most harm comes from someone known to the child (not strangers)
 * How grooming actually works - and why adults are often groomed first
 * The subtle (and often missed) red flags in behaviour
 * Why confident, empowered children are far less likely to be targeted
 * How predators build trust and create distance between children and their safe adults

Practical Strategies for Parents

 * Think of the internet like a pool: Put a fence around it (boundaries + controls)
   Teach them how to swim (education)
   Supervise where possible
 * Keep devices in shared spaces
 * Avoid devices in bedrooms and bathrooms
 * Set clear boundaries and time limits
 * Focus on connection over control
 * Stay calm and approachable so your child feels safe to come to you

Why This Conversation Matters

This isn’t about fear.

It’s about raising children who:

 * trust themselves
 * understand their bodies
 * feel confident to speak up
 * know they will be listened to

Because those are the children who are most protected.
