In today's reading we will read Psalm 126, Psalm 128, Psalm 147, and Psalm 149:1-5, 9. In today's Psalms we will read about praising God for bringing them back to Jerusalem. We will see the people grateful for God's riches- things like wives who are fruitful, many children, living to see one's grandchildren, rather than the amassing of material wealth achieved by cheating and stealing from others.  We will see the restoration of God's people's hearts, not just their physical restoration to Jerusalem,  with a desire to look for and obey God's ways, blessing one another and praying for one another, singing and dancing with joy to praise God for his love that never ends. In our discussion for daily application we will talk about how we can all identify with these feelings of restoration when God calls us back to Him and restores our relationship with Him after we have gone astray, like sheep. God's love is so warm and comforting and it is so reassuring to know that even though we have wandered, God loves us and wants to gather us to Him the way He gathered His people back from exile. Let us praise God for his lovingkindness that never ends!

00:00:32
Speaker
Look at that. We are almost done with the month of July. Holy moly, where's it going? Thank you for joining me today. i hope that you are enjoying our daily Bible reading.

Gratitude for New Followers

00:00:45
Speaker
I am seeing a lot of new followers and subscribers out there. Thank you. Welcome to you who are choosing to be here every day. I really love the fact that God is reaching people and that he is bringing people to his event.
00:00:59
Speaker
I ah hope that you will find daily application in every single day as we read God's word.

Return to Faith in the Psalms

00:01:07
Speaker
We are still reading some Psalms today and the Psalms were written after the people had returned from exile. And do you remember when God was ah telling the people that he was going to send them that when he brought them back, that he would bring them back and they would have a heart for him.
00:01:27
Speaker
And we are seeing that being reflected in the Psalms that are being written for God as they have returned ah from Jerusalem.
00:01:39
Speaker
Return to Jerusalem. Sorry about that. Return to Jerusalem. So we are going to be reading today and 149.
00:01:57
Speaker
And just like yesterday, there is a central theme of and today's central theme that we will be seeing throughout the Psalms is one of gratitude. The people are grateful. There we go. My words don't want to come out. This is early in the day for me.
00:02:15
Speaker
I am making this recording at 530 in my time in the morning. ah And my words are apparently a little slow to come out today. The people are grateful. but God has brought them back.
00:02:27
Speaker
And this is what God was ah telling us what was going to be happening. The people would have a heart for him. And ah we will see that they are Just so grateful to be there and wanting to praise God.
00:02:42
Speaker
Whereas before, they had problems with idolatry and they had ah set up ways of worshiping anything and everything.

Restoration and Devotion

00:02:54
Speaker
all over, everywhere, even in God's temple. And we saw that God destroyed that and he is starting over fresh. And one of the things that i I really felt with these Psalms is that it's, it that you know how you feel when you have walked away from God and God brings you back to him.
00:03:18
Speaker
And you have a restoring of your joy. And you are just so thankful that God searched you out like a lost sheep and brought you back.
00:03:31
Speaker
And that feeling, I think, can resonate with all of us at some point in our lives. And so that is what we are going to be seeing in the people today. And so just try to keep that type of feeling in mind as we read <unk> today's Psalms.
00:03:48
Speaker
Our first one is entitled, Laughing and Joy. Psalm 126. Enemies had taken us away, but God brought us back to Jerusalem.
00:04:03
Speaker
It was like a dream. We were full of laughing and joy. God has done great things for us. We are full of joy.
00:04:15
Speaker
Give us what belongs to us, God, and let it be like rivers in the desert. People may go out crying, holding seeds to plant, but they will come back with happy songs.
00:04:29
Speaker
They will bring the crops they have gathered.

Blessings and Spiritual Wealth

00:04:34
Speaker
You may remember that as part of God's ah discipline for the people, he had withheld food even from them, hoping that they would turn back to him. And they hadn't. So now they recognize the abundance that God is providing for them and that they are permitted to do so in their own land again.
00:04:57
Speaker
Psalm 128, olive branches, like olive branches Good things come to people who walk in God's ways. God's riches will come to you.
00:05:11
Speaker
Your wife will be like a vine with fruit. Your sons will be like olive branches. They will be all around your table. The man who looks up to God will have these things.
00:05:25
Speaker
I pray that God will give you these good things all your life. I pray that you will see Jerusalem grow. i pray that you will live long enough to see your grandchildren.
00:05:38
Speaker
I pray that God's people will have peace.
00:05:46
Speaker
One of the things God kept telling the people was to walk in his ways. to be obedient to him, to not love lies, to not think of bad things to do to their neighbors, to uphold the widow, to look after people who didn't have food.
00:06:05
Speaker
And the people were not obeying God. They were not walking in his ways. They did not have a heart for God. What do we see now? The people are praising God and acknowledging that good things come to those who walk in God's ways.
00:06:21
Speaker
and that they will be filled with God's riches, which will come to them. Notice it didn't say material wealth. That was something also that God had complained about the people is that they just wanted more and more things and that they were getting these things deceitfully.
00:06:39
Speaker
They would steal from one another. They would mix dirt with the with the wheat and and weigh it out and cheat people. And now they are acknowledging there are better ah that there is better wealth.
00:06:55
Speaker
It's not measured in in money and in material things, but it's measured in things like having a long lifespan to see your children grow and have grandchildren.
00:07:07
Speaker
It's being measured by having ah wonderful wife with who is fruitful like a vine, by having children like that will be around your table,
00:07:19
Speaker
that you will see shalom. that you will have peace and see Jerusalem grow. Remember, they are just a small number of people.
00:07:30
Speaker
And God told us the other day that while it may seem impossible that once again there will be old people and children in the streets, that nothing is too hard for him.
00:07:43
Speaker
And now they are seeing these things happen and and ah praying for blessings for one another. Another thing that God had had said about the people is that nobody was interceding for them. Nobody was praying for one another.
00:07:59
Speaker
and here we see that they are praying for one another. They are praying a blessing. That they pray that God will give you these good things all your life.
00:08:11
Speaker
That they will see Jerusalem grow. That they will live long enough to see their grandchildren. That but God's people will have peace. So you but God had said that this time away would be a purifying time and that when he brought everybody back, that they would have a heart for him.
00:08:31
Speaker
That is exactly what we are seeing. God is right. He knew what he was going to do. He had plans for good things to happen and he is doing them, isn't he?

God's Strength and Care

00:08:45
Speaker
So let's continue on with Psalm 147.
00:08:49
Speaker
He counts the stars is the title of this one. Praise God! it is good to sing praise to our God. God makes Jerusalem strong.
00:09:02
Speaker
He brings back the people who were sent away. He mends their broken hearts. He takes care of their wounds. He counts the stars and calls each one by its name.
00:09:17
Speaker
Our God is great and strong. There is no end to His understanding. God takes care of people who know they are not important, but He lets sinful people fall to the ground.
00:09:34
Speaker
Sing to God and thank Him. Make music to God on the harp. He makes clouds cover the sky. He brings rain to the earth.
00:09:46
Speaker
He makes grass grow on the hills. He gives the cows their food. He gives food to the young ravens when they call. a horse may be strong, but that's not what makes God happy.
00:10:02
Speaker
a man's legs may be strong, but that's not what makes God happy. God is happy with people who love him. He is happy with people who trust in his love.
00:10:16
Speaker
He is happy when they know that his love never ends.
00:10:24
Speaker
Bow before God, Jerusalem. Praise your God, Zion. He makes your gates strong. He gives good things to your people.
00:10:36
Speaker
He gives your land peace. He brings you fine wheat. God lays out the snow like wool. He sends down the frost like dust from a fire.
00:10:48
Speaker
He throws down his hail like tiny rocks. Who can stand up against the icy wind? God sends his word and the ice melts.
00:11:01
Speaker
He brings his light winds and the water flows. God showed his word to Jacob. He told his laws to Israel.
00:11:13
Speaker
He didn't do this for other nations. Other nations don't know his laws. Praise God!
00:11:23
Speaker
We don't hear any idol worship going on, do we? We don't have any talk about the queen of heaven. We don't have any talk about Baal. We don't have any talk about the son being a God.
00:11:38
Speaker
We see that the people are giving glory to God, that he is the one who has made everything. Everything is God's. He does everything. He takes care of the people.
00:11:51
Speaker
And it's important, they say, to note that God takes care of people who know that they are not important. The big word for that in the Bible is humble. God takes care of people who are humble, but he lets sinful people fall to the ground.
00:12:08
Speaker
And that's what we saw. They knew that they had been sinful. And now they know that God is the most important one. God is happy with people who love him, not people who are worshiping idols, which are false gods.
00:12:24
Speaker
He is happy with people who trust in his love. He is happy when they know that his love never ends. We saw that yesterday throughout the Psalms that we read, didn't we?
00:12:37
Speaker
That God's love is never ending. And we see that still the people are reflecting that knowledge and that gratitude and that acknowledgement in today's Psalms as well.

Celebrating Reconnection with God

00:12:52
Speaker
We have one more Psalm to ray read, and that is Psalm 149.
00:12:58
Speaker
Singing in Bed is the title of this one. Cheer for God. Sing a new song to God. Sing praise to him together with everyone who loves him.
00:13:12
Speaker
Let God's people show joy in their maker. Let them praise him with dancing. Let them make music to him with the tambourine and the harp.
00:13:25
Speaker
God is happy with his people. He saves them. So let them show show their joy and sing with joy in their bed. Praise God.
00:13:39
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:13:43
Speaker
Today's songs are so joyful. it is so wonderful to feel that reconnection that the people are having with God. They are so great ah grateful and they are relishing God's love for them.
00:14:00
Speaker
Something that God had called for them to do for so long and now they are doing it. Can you feel the restoration in their joy in these psalms?
00:14:13
Speaker
I know I did.
00:14:16
Speaker
We can always remember that God wants to call us back to him. Sometimes we have a tendency to wander like sheep, but God is calling you back to him.
00:14:26
Speaker
If you are just finding this event today, God wants you to know that he loves

Finding Joy in Daily Readings

00:14:32
Speaker
you. He will take care of you. He wants you to be with him. He wants you to acknowledge him in your life.
00:14:40
Speaker
And it's so, it just feels good when we do that. You can see the joy that the people have and they they they want to praise God and know that God loves them forever.
00:14:53
Speaker
Just like God loves you forever. So thank you for joining me today. i hope that you feel that God has lit your light inside today. Don't you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? I know I do.
00:15:06
Speaker
It's just it's such a great start to my day doing these ah readings and before i start my day and go off to work. And you may be watching it in the middle of your day or at the end of your day.
00:15:19
Speaker
But I know that when I wake up sometimes and I may be grumpy with that things going on, like with my daughter or whatever. And when I read God's word, he puts me in a much happier, better place.
00:15:35
Speaker
God's Word brings joy to my life every single day. And i really want to share that joy with you. And I want to encourage you to enjoy these readings early on in your day because they can really ah be kind of like a chiropractic adjustment.
00:15:54
Speaker
They have a tendency to realign everything and put you back where you belong, which is ah in God's light. And it it really just corrects my upsetness and it replaces my upsetness with with his joy.
00:16:14
Speaker
And so I want to encourage you that if you're having a hard day, to turn on one of these readings and reconnect with God in your day. And I just know that it will have the same effect for you that it does for me.
00:16:28
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today on this July 27th.

Conclusion and Call to Share

00:16:33
Speaker
And ah when you are finished watching or listening, I would ask that you please click that light button. It looks like a thumbs up. It looks like a heart, but it's our light.
00:16:43
Speaker
We want to shine light on this event for God and spread the word about reading his word and help other people to be joyful in their day too.
00:16:55
Speaker
