Podcast Introduction

00:00:04
Speaker
Well, hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside the wonderful warming up, Deanne. How are you today?
00:00:17
Speaker
I'm doing great, Al.

Weather Talk and Personal Experiences

00:00:19
Speaker
You know, I am not the hugest fan of cold weather. It typically makes me a little grumpy. um But I am very much enjoying this cold weather because the wind's not blowing.
00:00:32
Speaker
then i That does help. I think that that plays a huge like part in my feelings about the cold weather. Because I'm all right being stuck here at the house with the boys.
00:00:44
Speaker
We're having a good old time. Our house is pretty clean. That's great. Always good. We went on an adventure through the icy snow and... I'm excited about another day. so i love it. yeah we're We're recording this, let's see, it'll be a couple of weeks in advance. We're just taking advantage of the time. And before we get too busy in the spring, we thought we'll record a few episodes ahead. So it is still very cold here. But like you I went for and a nice long walk earlier today and it wasn't, it didn't feel cold because the sun was out and there was no wind, even though it's you know hovering, it was hovering below freezing when I went out.
00:01:22
Speaker
But yeah, just gorgeous. We went, I times whenever our we went for our adventure um to the warmest part of the day, which was 40 degrees, 40. Nice. nice ah But it does not look any different.
00:01:37
Speaker
And, but I guess like out on the main roads, it's clearing out, but like, You can't tell where yards end and street begins and all that. And that was it.
00:01:49
Speaker
We're the same. Like I walked around the neighborhood, we've got as all neighborhoods do. We've got a couple of main streets and they were very slushy and, you know, cars going up and down now and again. but like I walked around, we've got two parks, walked around the parks and I had no idea where the grass started and the concrete ended or vice versa, you know just no idea at all.

Snow Eating Debate

00:02:11
Speaker
It's good. We had to have discussions, though, about what is your take? Is it all right to eat the snow on the ground if it's not touching the ground and it's not, it's nobody's walked through it, nobody's driven through it? ah i don't know if I've ever done it, but I would say 100%
00:02:32
Speaker
You've never? i i mean, you would think I would have, but I cannot remember ever doing it. I am not against it at all. And it snows in Scotland, right? It does. it does.
00:02:44
Speaker
Maybe that's why I know. I don't know. definitely in the yes camp, though. Okay, yeah, because I definitely feel like eating eating snow, eating, you know, whatever.
00:02:57
Speaker
you Joseph was talking about, you know, all the grossness. Sorry, listeners, we got cut off this temporarily. But yes, you're talking about Joseph. And is he for or against the eating snow situation? Against it. And so George and I had to, you know, eat a whole bunch of it just to prove a point and talk about how delicious it is.
00:03:18
Speaker
but I should think so. Yeah. um you know yeah it There's probably something icky and gross about it, but like, i don't know. know but no i'm all for it i think it's makes like snow ice cream and all of the things yeah no i'm all for it definitely um but yeah by the time this episode comes out it will probably be nice and warm hey yeah well yeah you'll be living your best life but for right now yeah i will we are enjoying what ice and snow and coldness we have
00:03:55
Speaker
Yes, yes. All right. and And so the but the official stance of the Purple Door podcast is pro eating snow as long as it's not yellow or gross or dirty.
00:04:07
Speaker
I agree. Yes, we are 100% on board with this. Okay. Excellent. like it. All right. Done. like it.

Friends Trivia Game

00:04:15
Speaker
Well, Kate has filtered through our questions, made sure we had, I think we had several that were the same. we had four that were the same. Which is saying quite incredible. It's quite, i love it. So we have redone some questions. She has made sure they are different.
00:04:31
Speaker
And, um yeah, you are one nothing up after we, there was two ties. And then in the third game of this new format, you won pretty comfortably. I'm going to say pretty comfortably. You ended getting five out five. a perfect score.
00:04:46
Speaker
five ah Five plus two more just for fun. it was It was a perfect score. Yes. I have six questions today, but we don't have to do all six. Yeah, I've just got five um after they were they were looked through. But let's... ah All right. Let me... go here. And go here.
00:05:08
Speaker
i'm trying to... I think, do I go first this time? Uh-oh. I feel like yes. Yes, because you went for... Because this is the fourth one. Yes, I go on even ones. I went first. Now it's your turn. Now it's me. All right. Well, I am going to read you my first question, which is...
00:05:26
Speaker
What reasons did Rachel give Ross for not having told Mark about him? Because, oh man, that was going to be one of my questions. She's wearing her sandwich board and ringing her bell.
00:05:40
Speaker
Indeed she is. My heart, Ross. ah so The sandwich board, yes. Ross sucks. Yes, we'll be definitely getting into that and his behavior in this. All right, but you are one nothing up again.
00:05:55
Speaker
Okay, so this one's, it's tough. Okay. and So if you get don't have all of it, i think I will accept two out of three. Okay.
00:06:06
Speaker
All right, so what's the order that Monica calls up whenever Rachel's, she's going on her whole thing about how demeaning it is to work in a job that just because it's loosely related to what you want to do?
00:06:22
Speaker
I know exactly what you're talking about, and I did not write them down or you know commit them to memory. I it was just like a burger fries and something, but they've all got special names.
00:06:35
Speaker
Yes. And i do I couldn't even hazard a guess at any of the names. It wasn't burger and fries. Oh, no. It was Yentl Soup, James Beans, and a Howdy Hold the Doody.
00:06:49
Speaker
no. Yeah, should have caught that and and put those in my memory. All right. You are one nothing up. and let's Let's see if you can make it two nothing.
00:07:02
Speaker
All right. I did not print out my notes this week, so if there's a slight delay, it's just cause I'm flipping back and forth between tabs. But your second question is, why don't you want to tick Joey's grandma off?
00:07:15
Speaker
Ooh, she was the sixth person to spit on Mussolini's body. You are exactly correct. If you hadn't gone sixths, but you got the rest of it, i still think I would have given it to you. But you we don't need to worry about that because now you are just on top form again. That was so funny to me. I like, man, like what a, I don't know. the It's just funny. It's just funny. But then if I don't know enough about Mussolini. That's what I should have looked. I didn't look anything up. I'm not going to lie.
00:07:47
Speaker
i did' yeah You were having too much fun in the snow. But I think I would have learned some things about Mussolini. Right. Absolutely. All right. In the opening scene, what's the gang eating?
00:08:00
Speaker
Oh, I was too focused on the cards. ha The five of hearts? That's the one. All right. So I'm going to have to guess.
00:08:13
Speaker
I feel like ice cream is too obvious, but I'm going to go with ice cream. No. ah just I've not got it. I did not get the point, but popcorn.
00:08:24
Speaker
It's a pizza. It's a giant pizza box and everybody's got their pizzas pieces of pizza. All right. So this is for you to go three nothing up.
00:08:37
Speaker
Yes. All right. I thought this was a fun question, even if I do say so myself. I'm scared. When Chandler's at Joey's grandma's house and he's asking about the tiramisu, how many people are sitting down at the dinner table?
00:08:57
Speaker
Oh, okay. Small hint, you can work it out. Seven plus grandma would be eight plus Joey would be nine plus Chandler would be ten. And you are three nothing up.
00:09:09
Speaker
There you go. Yes. Okay. What is Mary Angela's favorite dessert? Speaking of dinner and all of that.
00:09:21
Speaker
Is the correct answer more tiramisu? That's her second favorite. That's her second favorite.
00:09:31
Speaker
I can't get past the tiramisu. So is it just tiramisu? Because that's what it is. Okay. All right. i was overthinking it. All right. Just tiramisu. All right. and I'm just hanging on by a thread, but this is for the win.
00:09:45
Speaker
Whoa. Because this will give you four for four. Okay. All right. This this feels a little unfair. Okay, but that's all right. Let's go. Okay.
00:09:58
Speaker
What Friends-related record does the title of this episode hold?
00:10:05
Speaker
It's an odd one. Okay, hang on. Yep. So it's the one where...
00:10:16
Speaker
Where Chandler forgets the sister's name. Is it a street with no name?
00:10:26
Speaker
Or man with no name? I don't know. This is i move
00:10:34
Speaker
is... I'm giving you... as I say a hint. it's It's a record of some sort. It's it's unique. It's... This title.
00:10:46
Speaker
Bear in mind you have it you're winning 3-1 and you've got quite a cushion. Yeah, I have literally no idea. all right. So I'm going tell you in the entire series of Friends, this is the longest episode title.
00:11:00
Speaker
real Oh, that kind of record. I'm going through it in my head singing songs. You're singing songs in your head. Like, okay, have we heard that song before in this series?
00:11:13
Speaker
Like, and that's where my brain was. I i what i was way off. All right. All right. We'll just pretend like that just never even happened. It didn't happen.
00:11:26
Speaker
So where did Chandler see Janice and her husband? They were at Rockefeller Center. At the ice skating at the Rockefeller Center.
00:11:38
Speaker
And just being so happy. Yes, they won. Poor Chandler. Okay. Yes.

Chandler's Drunken Antics

00:11:45
Speaker
All right. Well, but this is, you've got to, if you get this one right, you've won.
00:11:50
Speaker
Okay. Again. All right. Now, again, I'm not a hundred. So this is one of those questions I came up with after the fact. I'm not a hundred percent sure we see this answer in the episode.
00:12:04
Speaker
So I'm feeling a little bit icky about this question, but what is the name of the restaurant where Monica works? Oh, the Moon Dance Diner. And you are 2-0 up. in And we do see it. They show the outside of it. And ah yeah, because I got excited because I was like, yes, we're going back in the diner. Because the diner is my favorite. I love that. It's a ton of fun.
00:12:26
Speaker
Ton fun. Yes. Yes. And could work there even though it has, I mean, maybe it does. i don't know. But it has nothing to do with anything that I would want to do in life. But I would work there.
00:12:37
Speaker
Well, before we get to my last you know ah consolation question, if you ever drive to Oklahoma from where we live, it's it's maybe yeah two-thirds of the way to Oklahoma City. There's a small town called Paul's Valley.
00:12:52
Speaker
And if you take the exit for Paul's Valley, there is a it's not really Happy Days themed, but it's like a 50s and 60s style diner right at the exit. Cute. Lots of fun. So if you ever drive up there, think Paul's Valley.
00:13:06
Speaker
And i think I think it's called, I don't if it's called the Happy Days Diner, but it's something like that. And it's it's all nostalgia-y and lots of fun. Okay, so did I tell you about the American diner that my dad and I went to while we were in Italy?
00:13:24
Speaker
So not on the air, but I think maybe Kate's mentioned it. Yes, and it was it was so fun. It was so cute, and I loved it. and it was They were all dressed up like 50s. The guys were in white with the little...
00:13:41
Speaker
hats like in and out burger and then the girls were wearing like the cute dresses and stuff it was super cute so much fun i love it and then they just tried to be sweet and pretend like we they thought we were italian but they didn't no they didn't you didn't pass for italian all right my last question my my consolation prize what color are the jello shots
00:14:10
Speaker
I don't remember seeing them, but I remember Chandler's tongue and that something tells it's blue or green. So I'm going with blue. Okay, wait. the I wonder if it got cut. No, but they're green.
00:14:25
Speaker
They're green. he tongue I knew his tongue was kind of blue or green, so I'm sure it was the same. Well, and then did you see in york in your episode of him like trying to feed it to the dog, to the statue? Yeah, I think so. Yes. Okay, and then he walks over with the tray, and you can see that they're all green. Okay. All right.
00:14:47
Speaker
Well, you are now officially two-nothing up in the series. Yes. yeah It's going well. It's going well for Wilson over there. Yes. All right. All right. just going to have to, I'm going to study harder for next week.
00:15:04
Speaker
Okay. Hey, I put in a sixth question just fun. that's right. That's right. Just for fun. What is it? You went for fun? Yeah, indeed. Okay, what was the party? Why did they have the party?
00:15:14
Speaker
You know, it's because I forgot and then went back and it's for Joey's birthday. That's right. Because they don't make a big deal. I remember, you know, they just say, oh it's for Joey's birthday. But then there's nothing really about his birthday outside of them mentioning that it's his birthday.
00:15:32
Speaker
Right. Well, I mean, they've got happy birthday up on the wall. and then they've got Oh, that's true. That's true. Yeah. That's true. Yeah. It's interesting, right? Yeah. I don't know.
00:15:43
Speaker
Other things going on. Well, let's see. Let's get stuck into this episode. Pull up my notes here. We start off in the girl's apartment. joey Joey's trying to play this card. Well, he does. He successfully plays the card trick.
00:15:57
Speaker
um think it's everyone but Chandler is there initially. um It did get me thinking. I know we've talked about games. Do you have a favorite card game in particular?
00:16:08
Speaker
oh I do love spades. I really enjoy playing spades. I like hearts too. Right. Yeah. Those games I really enjoy.
00:16:21
Speaker
but Yeah, i I really just enjoy card games because I can play some gin, rummy, and, you know, I enjoy those too. whole range of card games. Yeah, I'll even do some goal fit or Go Fish.
00:16:38
Speaker
there you go yeah what about you um ah again i'm open to any you know um always enjoy playing poker like whether it's casually or in a tournament i really enjoy some poker out yeah i enjoy the the whole atmosphere of it you know the people at the table and trying to figure people out and you know i'm a i'm a you know i would say an average player not in a bad way you i'm decent but it's not about that i just enjoy it um always fun like so whether it's just casual with friends or you know that if there's a little money on the line just a little that makes it interesting see i'm not interested in playing poker if there's not money on the line like if there's not some tangible thing we are playing for then i would rather play something else See, there's something to that because it's not just about the money, but otherwise everyone just calls everything if there's no stakes. Yeah.
00:17:38
Speaker
Yeah. Exactly. it's kind of like, uh. Yeah. If there's nothing on the line, then there's it's stupid. Yeah. now I'm with you. We find out the upstairs neighbor, they've removed their carpet.
00:17:52
Speaker
um So suddenly there's this muffled neighbor that is throughout the whole episode.

Rachel's Job Struggles and Growth

00:17:58
Speaker
Who's very charming. That's right. we We find out how charming this neighbor is, um especially when Phoebe goes up to talk to him because she's not having this nonsense.
00:18:08
Speaker
um Now, I'm trying to think. hishand Oh, yeah. Then Chandler enters, right? He comes in all upset about Janice and her husband. Yes. Yeah, and is it, am I right? I didn't write this down, but he, does he grab like a kid's pretzel and throws it at them? Something like that? Yes, because he walks asking for a rope to hang himself. Oh, that's right. A little dramatic. Because it's just kind of dark, know? Right, that's right.
00:18:36
Speaker
But um yeah, he walks he asks for that, and then he's, you know, he just ran into... Or he just saw Janice and her husband and they looked so happy. And I almost felt bad for throwing the pretzel at him. That's right.
00:18:55
Speaker
it does seem like it's like a picture Chandler doing that, you know, throwing and then running away. um Yes. Joey tries to relate, but really he's just looking for an excuse to...
00:19:06
Speaker
Talk about how shall we put this, a conquest he has had. I was going to say, just to brag. Just to brag. um Yeah, but it's funny. The setup's kind of funny. um And speaking of funny, I do like Chandler's line when, um i don't mean we we never hear his name, right? The neighbor upstairs.
00:19:27
Speaker
No, he's just very charming. He's just a charming neighbor. That's right. um But Chandler says he screwed up the punchline of the joke that was trying to tell, even though it's just mumbles.
00:19:39
Speaker
a um Yeah, he said, well, he totally screwed up the punchline. That's right. That's what Chandler said, and it's so funny. Yeah, it's a good, good line.
00:19:51
Speaker
i think we end up, is this the first time we then see inside Fortuna fashion, right? Because Rachel just got a job there last week. And, you know, i' i kind of like this old guy. The the actor, i think, plays it very well, um this role. But he's got, Rachel's pouring the coffee, but then he has a, how does he phrase it? But like a more fashion related task.
00:20:15
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. Because he's like building her up because... yeah a ah After he's just so gross. Like what a, I don't know.
00:20:27
Speaker
Whenever he's like, I can't drink coffee. It makes me gassy. And then she's like, oh, I know. She's very aware. yeah But then, you know, I bet you you're wondering what an intelligent young lady, you know, I've seen your promise. And he like builds her up and then opens the door to the hangers, the wire hangers. Now, hangers are ah a sensitive subject in our household, a little bit. I think it's fair to say. So i'll tell you I'll tell you our situation, then you see if you can relate. There's a couple of couple couple of layers to this.
00:21:04
Speaker
One, Kate is rightly, she does not like a wire hanger. um She has the ones that have, in my head, it's almost like velvet, whatever it is.
00:21:14
Speaker
It's not velvet. What kind of material? you know Yeah. I'm on board with that. That's fine. I don't really care, but I think I just have mostly plastic hangers, and then a couple of those velvety ones. But I think our household is in an eternal cycle of having far too many hangers.
00:21:33
Speaker
So we we donate them to charity. And then a week later, we don't have enough hangers. Yeah. me in particular Kate just moved her head to the side of her laptop and made sure that it's understood in the Purple Door podcast that yeah it's me this is a me problem yeah we know yeah now i will say was it last night you you didn't think i would have enough hangers and I had plenty of hangers ah I say plenty Kate says sufficient a sufficient amount a sufficient amount Well, and I will tell you, i don't know. So our we have issues. um
00:22:16
Speaker
Nobody in our house likes the wire hangers. The wire hangers are terrible. And that is just an understood right stance here at the Wollison house. It's good that that all of you are on the same page.
00:22:30
Speaker
Yes. However, there is one of us that's a little territorial about their hangers because they get very offended yeah they um somebody takes their hangers or anything like that. So that particular person has gray and red hangers.
00:22:51
Speaker
Everybody else in the house has white. I won't tell you who the one person is that is very hung up on this. but it's not me.
00:23:01
Speaker
you know And it's a full adult. That's what I was thinking. I was thinking initially this, you know, i've you and Kate are two peas in a pod. But then when you were talking about this, i was like, I've got a funny feeling that a certain gentleman in your household might be quite particular.
00:23:20
Speaker
He is, he is. and And he has an exact number of hangers. What happens if he buys a new shirt? What happens? Then he gets rid of an old shirt.
00:23:32
Speaker
that That's very disciplined, actually. Good for him. Yes. He is very like, he's, he and and the thing is, is that there are so many things that he is not very about, but he is quite particular about his hangers. And um I don't know, it's couple of years ago. He was like, i am so sick of everybody taking my hangers.
00:23:55
Speaker
ah He doesn't sound like that. You've talked to him. i don't know why I made him sound like a Muppet. I love you, Joseph. I know you're not going to listen to this. But puts it out in the universe. He does not sound like a Muppet. No, he does not. um But then he ordered all these red and gray things.
00:24:14
Speaker
hangers from Amazon. And he was like, he sat us all down and he's like, these are my hangers. All the other colors belong to y'all and I don't care what y'all do with them, but these are mine. That is a Kate Green move.
00:24:28
Speaker
She can't hear you, so I'll share it with her when we finish recording. Now, this something to do with the school he used to work in? Because those are the two of the colors. or is this They are, they? Yes, yes. Yeah. Interesting. So, I don't know. He just figured that none of us, because we had some black, we had some white, so he bought a random, random colors. It's it's not something I subscribe to, but I completely understand.
00:24:58
Speaker
i get yeah yeah i get it. I get it. but well he He wouldn't be having any of this nonsense that Rachel has to put up with with you know a bazillion wire hangers.
00:25:09
Speaker
um No. He wouldn't. I don't know. Maybe whenever he was younger, before I met him, he would do. you know Because he he worked some Joe jobs.
00:25:21
Speaker
where he did some pretty ridiculous things, you know? Absolutely. But he, like, quit and walked off jobs whenever he got had to do stupid things. so He wasn't having it. Good for him. No.
00:25:35
Speaker
See, i man, that's awesome because I have never done that. No, I don't think I have either, to be fair. I think i would it'd be fun if you took this next scene because we are over at the Moondance Diner.
00:25:50
Speaker
and Okay. Why do you love it? like And then... You know, we meet Mark and tell us about it. It's just so stinking cute. and Like they've got the little bar there and it's so 50-esque. You know, it reminds me of like, you know, where you put it on the little spin thing to give it back to the cooks and then they take it and then they put it in the little window and say order up. And then you're like, and it's so cute. And she's in her little costume.
00:26:20
Speaker
um I'm sad that we never get to see like the dance parts or anything again, where they dance on the counters and all that. But it's so cute. And so... It makes me laugh because the reason that Monica is there, right? Because she was out of work for all that time. Yes.
00:26:41
Speaker
And she got this job because it's in the restaurant industry. And she is, you know, and wearing her fake costume and her fake hair and...
00:26:54
Speaker
you know, talking about all of that. And so Rachel's sitting there talking about, you know, I hate this job. I hate it. I hate it. And I can't believe it would work in such a demeaning job just because it has something to do with the, the area. i don't remember her exact words, but you know, the area yeah what I want to do.
00:27:17
Speaker
and she just keeps talking about how much she hates it, you know, and then she says all that. And then Monica's like, Oh, okay. And that's whenever she order up for the, you know, that oh the Yentles. Yes. James beans in the howdy, hold the duty.
00:27:36
Speaker
That's right. i just I think I'm very thankful. Like some people don't like that stuff. Like it's too kitschy. It's too this or that. i I don't have that gene and I'm really thankful I don't. I just, like, i've got no I wasn't thankfully born. Well, not thankfully, but I wasn't born in the 70s. But thankfully...
00:27:55
Speaker
I can just enjoy it. It's just fun. Even if it's not like my thing that I love, like I don't love the seventies per se, but I could, I'd love to go to seventies themed diner. That's just fun.
00:28:09
Speaker
It's fun. it's Right. Yeah. Well, I lived the 90s, but I think it's super fun to go to a 90s concert or a 90s night. Exactly.
00:28:20
Speaker
It's so fun. Yeah, even if it's not something that I'm into, I think there's something about like just seeing the theme like that. I think it's tremendous fun. Mm-hmm. Yes.
00:28:31
Speaker
Yeah. Yes. And so then Rachel's going on and on about, you know, how much am I going to learn walking this arthritic seamstress to the bathroom? Yes. And she's been going on. And then there's the Mark who's sitting a couple of um ah stools away at that bar. And that's whenever we very first meet Mark.
00:28:54
Speaker
Which, you know, I don't know. God, I hate Ross. But anyway, i was he's over he he's overhearing them talking and he's like, you know, and he shares about how he had to sort the mannequin heads.
00:29:11
Speaker
and that's right i mean That was going be, I think maybe both of us had that question for bamboozled. Yeah, sure did. Mannequin heads at Mannequins Plus. Job in fashion.
00:29:23
Speaker
Yes. Yes. and I was thinking, at such a niche store, you know, I'm going to open a store called Mannequins Plus. i How many are you selling?
00:29:35
Speaker
But then again, they've got to come from somewhere. Right. Yeah. Yes. And how do you even get a job there? I don't know. Right. like Right. Right. Yeah, it's a peculiar one.
00:29:48
Speaker
it's It is. oh It is. I mean, it's funny, but peculiar. But sorry, go ahead. good Oh, no. And so then she kind of, you know, jumps all over him, you know, and it's like, mind your business and all that. And then, oh, I actually work at Bloomingdale's and I might know of a job possibility for you.
00:30:08
Speaker
And so then all of a sudden, would you like my pickle? That's right. you know We can be friends. And then that's where that scene closes. And then we go to the party.
00:30:22
Speaker
That's right.

Joey's Birthday Party Chaos

00:30:23
Speaker
We're up up at Joey's birthday party, which again, and mean we could easily have an in entire episode, you know, the one with Joey's birthday, but we don't. This is just sort of a subtext of the episode. But we do meet really drunk Chandler.
00:30:38
Speaker
He's kind of a riot. Like he's he's pretty funny. Yeah. he's funny and he's nice and and just ridiculous there's no filter no filter but nothing he's not not a mean drunk he is he is pretty happy is Chandler yeah but Rach comes in and she starts telling Ross all about Mark and surprise surprise Ross is immediately jealous although Joey doesn't help by kind of backing Ross up
00:31:12
Speaker
Yes. And we've also found out that Phoebe's now going on a date with the loud guy upstairs. Right. So that's a good point. So this Ross's theory has some legs, but it, you know, given that Joey backs it up and then this guy upstairs, um that doesn't make us like Ross anymore.
00:31:34
Speaker
But, um oh and I don't, I don't know. I've thought about this and I think Monica's advice too, which we'll get to in a little bit, is solid advice. I think that yeah it is that's the case closed for me. like Whatever you feel about Mark or Ross, or this she she oh she closes this case beautifully, I think.
00:31:58
Speaker
She absolutely does. And Ross Ross is so dumb. Ross is so just... I'm waiting for next week. I think it's next week's episode. to think you're Ross not liking him or Mita. The little needle is going to be shaking up at the top. It's going to be an interesting one when we sit and talk next week. um ah this is All of Joey's sisters then show up. All seven of them.
00:32:29
Speaker
yes I was trying to read really hard and I couldn't quite get it. What it says on the back of the one sister's jacket. Of cookies, cookies jacket, because that's the one that punches her. at Of course i didn't put two two together. Yes. Yes. I tried to also And I couldn't decide if it was a bedazzled biker's jacket or that's what what. I assumed it was, and I can't remember what it was, but there was clearly two words, and I thought I could get one, but definitely not the other.
00:33:02
Speaker
um But, yeah, she comes in and pretty much just tells Phoebe straight away, did she she shot her husband? Yeah. Well, yeah, because she's like, you know, what which what do you have to drink? Because she puts down the bottle of wine and then she's looking at all the others. She's like, oh, I'm making a a vodka and cranberry. That's right. What do you know? That's the exact drink I made. and Phoebe just being Phoebe is like, i I don't know how to talk to you.
00:33:31
Speaker
So I was thinking about that line and none of us would ever really say that in real life, but I think we've all been in a situation where we would love to just be that honest. Yeah. Like I have no idea what to say. right Yeah. I don't know what to say.
00:33:46
Speaker
I have been, I've been honest with people like that before. Right. like everywhere I'm like, I just, I don't know what to say right now. I'd like to say something, but I don't know what to say. Good for you.
00:34:00
Speaker
Good for you. I don't know that that's what I would say to somebody that just shared with me that they shot somebody, though. Right, that's true. You'd want to play nice. Extra nice. But she's not in jail, so... That's right. I don't i don't know how... I don't know how to...
00:34:21
Speaker
I don't know what I would say. Yes, but we definite we definitely be nice, I think. Yeah, for sure. for sure. But then you don't know if you should laugh. ah Yeah, I mean, because, like, that could be a joke and you're just weird. or Right, right.
00:34:39
Speaker
Yeah, because they've just met, you know, it's um Yeah, she's an interesting character, is this kooky. um Yes. We do go straight, well, we kind of flash forward to the girl's apartment the next day. i enjoy drunk Chandler. I kind of like hungover Chandler, too. like these he is He is in pain. no woohooing. No woohooing. Okay.
00:35:05
Speaker
But before he walks in and Rachel and Ross are talking, and she's kind of ribbing him. about whenever he's still hung up on this whole mark thing right still hung up and then she's like you know that well i mean i will have to take showers with him but that's true of any job and that's right yes that cracked me up because she's kind of playing into it at this point you know again i we can't blame her yeah
00:35:37
Speaker
Yeah, no, not at all. He's ridiculous. I was going ask... Oh, sorry, go ahead go ahead. No, no, no, no. yeah it was It would have been too hard for Bamboozled, but I was wondering, there's four sisters that are named in this scene when they're trying to figure out... Yeah, I know, I would have been able... This was one of my questions, was which ah sisters are named in this episode?
00:36:01
Speaker
That's right, and I had a... Yeah, I had a similar question or something. So, yeah, Kate yeah did did what she does best, and she removed that. that's right, because it's Gina, Dina, Veronica, then Mary Angela.
00:36:16
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I've got it written down. Yeah. It's a funny scene. It reminds me... um What is it? ah Well, no, it doesn't. I was thinking, it kind of reminded me of um Kathy, who we meet later on But it's not, it's a completely different situation.
00:36:34
Speaker
But I do love the way Joey comes in. Like, he's not ready to fight, but he is ready to pull Chandler up and... and Like, what is going on here? Yeah.
00:36:46
Speaker
Yeah, not putting up Chandler's nonsense. But then that's what it reminded me of. It's, um you know, again, spoiler a alert from near the end of the whole series. When Chandler and Monica get together, Ross is about to flip his lid until he realizes there's some feelings there.
00:37:05
Speaker
And suddenly it's, oh, it's sunshine and roses. And Joey's kind of like that. Yes. Chandler pretends there's some feelings there and Joey suddenly thinks this is the greatest thing that's ever happened.
00:37:19
Speaker
Yes. Sitting in a tree. That's right. Yeah.
00:37:25
Speaker
We're still in the girl's apartment, but i think it's maybe later on that day. Let's see, Rachel comes in the apartment, but Phoebe is upstairs. This is the thing. She's just gone back from her date.
00:37:36
Speaker
um Yes. And Mark has not called Rachel. That's right. We think this must be Sunday night, right? Because Mark is still not called. And is this where... Does Monica maybe suggest she calls him Ross? No, that's later. Is that later on? Because she does that in front of Ross.
00:37:58
Speaker
Okay. Because but they they don't, this is a super short scene. Right. And they come back and then they start trying to talk. rachel uh monica's like i finished my book like anything and then ah they leave because that's right i think in my mind yeah i blended those together um yes because then they go yeah because then it goes from there over over to the boy's apartment and that's whenever ross and chandler ross's you know getting caught up on his correspondence
00:38:36
Speaker
That indeed he is. Yes. Yes. Yeah. And a the terrible, terrible, no no, don't do that. um And I think I'm guessing you had this question too, because one of mine was like, where does Chandler say he's going to go, but where's he actually going?
00:38:53
Speaker
Yeah, well, where does he want Ross to tell Joey he is? That's right. where is he really going to be? Yeah. That's right. Which was so funny. Yeah, it's a great scene. But then Ross helps him make the plan, which this is one good on Ross. Go to her house and have a conversation. Like, this is a terrible idea.
00:39:16
Speaker
Yeah, you can't write a letter to her. Right, yes. now This is a little redeeming quality for Ross here um in this scene. He goes over, joey Chandler goes over to Joey's joys yes grandparents, parents' house, whoever is, where all the sisters are.
00:39:35
Speaker
I recognize this house, but I'm not sure if I'm accurate. um I mean, it's all going to be on one lot. I've only watched it through once, but the Big Bang Theory, it reminds me of one of the houses in that, and I can't remember whose it is. It must be like um Howard's mum or something.
00:39:54
Speaker
the ah The outside of it, the outside, not the inside. Oh, okay. Okay. But I did think about trying to see if it's in the out there in the universe somewhere.
00:40:05
Speaker
you know, all these houses get used for, you know, loads of different shows, of course. So what what other shows has this house been on? um Yeah. just Just for curiosity.
00:40:17
Speaker
um Right. Yeah. yeah is um and Yeah, we talked about the other day, didn't we? That the Gilmore Girls' house, one of those is just across the street from Ross and Monica's parents.
00:40:29
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. So I'm about to try it and look that up. I kind of like the decoration in this house. It's just very old. It looks like a, looks like a parents or grandparents house.
00:40:40
Speaker
Oh yeah. With the, did you see the gold peacock? Yes, I did. hey th i was I looked at that for a minute and then i I don't know. And then I went down this rabbit hole of thinking about, you know, Joey and all of his animals that he bought. and you know Exactly. It's just something that they've always had. So he's kind of conditioned to like the animals or was this a gift or...
00:41:05
Speaker
Yes, where he gets pet the dog and all of that. Yeah. I love it. But Joey answers the door, which seems to surprise Chandler. um Joey brings him in, but there's still no telling at this point who Mary Angela is.
00:41:22
Speaker
Because, yeah yeah, tries he might, Chandler can't get her to answer. Well, that's a couple of scenes away, isn't it? um yeah He just doesn't know who she is.
00:41:34
Speaker
Well, there is a cut a cut right here where Chandler asks Joey, like, where are your parents? Because all the sisters are there. Joey's there. The grandma's there. Right. And one of my questions I was going to ask you was, where are Joey's parents? And you would have looked at me like I'm insane because it's not in your episode. Right. But they're in Vermont buying cigarettes.
00:42:01
Speaker
As you do. yeah Isn't that random? That is bizarre. Okay. Yeah. is I was thinking we, I'd forgotten what the grandmother in this episode looked like, but obviously she's a different one from the grandmother that we meet.
00:42:19
Speaker
um The one that doesn't speak any English. um Yeah. Because of this grandma sure does speak English. She does indeed. So wonder if this is Joey's maternal or paternal grandmother.
00:42:34
Speaker
Yeah, that's a good question. Yeah. Yeah. Just, just when whose is whose just, just wondering. Cause I'd forgotten it wasn't, you know, the same actress clearly. Yeah.
00:42:44
Speaker
Yeah. And she speaks English. Indeed. And makes a mean tiramisu apparently. So um good stuff. We go back. a and because Hang on. Because, and they're called, they, they have different names. Yeah.
00:43:01
Speaker
Well, no, but they don't. Because that was Nana. This is Nana. And then Nana is the one. She comes over. So he must call both of his grandmas Nana. That could bear could be confusing.
00:43:14
Speaker
Yeah, I would think so. yeah i Because, you know, we've got like Grammy and Grandma. Y'all got, you know, Lolly and Pop and right other grandparents. And, you know, all the things. Yeah, you have to have a different name Absolutely. Absolutely.
00:43:30
Speaker
um we go over to Central Park this was it Mark hasn't called so Monica says that Rachel should call him which she does Mark had left her number at work and but she's got an interview for tomorrow all very exciting you would think I mean they're even going to go for lunch to prep um unless you're Ross unless you're Ross. Ross is not having it. um And he and Monica kind of get into it. And just just very good life advice from Monica in this scene.
00:44:05
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. Yes. Because, yeah, 100%. Like, Ross forgets that um Rachel is her own person who can think and act on her own.
00:44:22
Speaker
Exactly. And just even if he's right about Mark, you him there's no reason not to trust Rachel. So but good good little sister advice coming through from Monica here. um Which all boils down to get over yourself and grow up.
00:44:41
Speaker
Pretty much. Pretty much. That's it. We go back over to, is it like Long Island, right? Is that where Joey's from? No, Queens. i can't remember now. I think so.
00:44:53
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. oh In my notes, I have dinner at the Tribbiani's. Yep, I've just got Joey's parents' house scribbled down. Chandler's asking about this tiramisu and then Grandma just keeps answering all the questions. um But then he assumes it's Mary Angela who wants to meet him in the bathroom.
00:45:12
Speaker
um He's solved the problem. in the It ends up being in the hallway. But it turns out that this is not Mary Angela who's kissed him, but rather Mary Therese.
00:45:26
Speaker
And it's all going to start coming slightly unraveled for Chandler at this point. yeah Yeah. With some quick urgency too. Yeah. now I'm not a big fan of Mary Teresa because she kisses him and then says, well, he kissed me.
00:45:44
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, like, you're you're not a good... No, that's that's that's just a lie, and that's not good. You're getting your friend into trouble, ah you know, throwing Chandler under the bus when you're the one who set this up and did it.
00:45:58
Speaker
And if anything, he actively pulled him himself away from the situation. Right. Yeah. yeah not Not a fan of Mary Teresa in this episode. No. then Mary Angela shows up and they get, yeah, all coming unraveled. Joey gets upset. Chandler get owns it, gets upset.
00:46:19
Speaker
I quite like the fact that, again, Chandler didn't say, well, she kissed me because that's really not the point of this. um Right. Chandler's just owning what he did and that's forget who Mary Angela is. Yeah.
00:46:34
Speaker
I don't know if Joey shows restraint, really, but I'm glad he doesn't punch him. um I don't think that would have been called for. But Kuki, she certainly takes advantage of the situation and apparently has a temper.
00:46:49
Speaker
Yeah. She shot her husband. She did. He's not at dinner, so I don't know if that's an accident or what happened there. suddenly I'm thinking that this husband probably didn't do all that much um to cause her to lose lose her temper because she seems to lose her pretty quickly. um Yeah.
00:47:09
Speaker
Let's see We end up seeing the outside of Rachel's new office now. Ross is showing up. um Probably not at the goodness of his heart, but fueled a bit by jealousy.
00:47:20
Speaker
The interview went really well. And then here comes Mark. He coached her. Um... Ross does apologize for his actions, which which is great at this moment in time.
00:47:34
Speaker
You know, yeah it's it's a shame it doesn't last. And we'll get to that next week. But he's doing the right thing. um Turns out Joanna loved her and is going to offer her the job. And Rachel gives Mark a hug. It's all very exciting.
00:47:50
Speaker
Rachel is going to really get her first proper foot into fashion at this point. Yes. It's so good. Yes. So good. Good for her. Yeah. feel like it's the end of an era with the with Central Park and and a new era here.
00:48:07
Speaker
Yes. Yes.

Phoebe's Charming Date and Reflections

00:48:10
Speaker
And then that takes us into the very last scene. Tell us about it. um they're talking about ah Phoebe and her date with the charming guy upstairs and then they're talking along about it and then we hear he is on yet another date up there. Indeed. Yes.
00:48:33
Speaker
Yes. And so they all, you know, and that's and they just said it sounded like he was having more fun on his date with his date with Phoebe.
00:48:44
Speaker
And that's that's how it ended. Yeah. Well, good well the the boys end up going upstairs, right? Because they're going to go sort them out. And then do they and then they start laughing. That's right. yeah Yes. Yes. Yes.
00:48:58
Speaker
He has a way of of charming them as well. Yeah, he does. Yeah. Have you ever met anybody that is super charming like that?
00:49:10
Speaker
Like it it just it really doesn't it probably does not matter much what they do. They could probably talk their way out of anything.
00:49:21
Speaker
Yeah, but I kind of assume that people who do that have become very well, and this is perhaps unfair, this is just my experience, people who are very skilled at that have had to develop that skill because they're perhaps not very good people.
00:49:35
Speaker
um You know, maybe I'm not thinking about it the right way, but... Yeah. I don't know because i think about kids, right?
00:49:47
Speaker
Because in right our line of work, like you can talk with a kid and you could be like, oh, like you you're a charming kid.
00:49:58
Speaker
Like you know how to ah I don't know, like talk to people yeah and and be captivating. Right. And so I wonder, and I always wonder, I think about like kids that are now adults and the ones that I have, you know, kept up with and the lines of work that they've gone into and things like that. And it's, a it's cool to think about because like,
00:50:32
Speaker
Your people that are performers, people that are leaders at their job are often ones that and I'm thinking specifically about one student that I had that was just very, very kind and very, very personable. And it didn't matter who they were talking to. right And now they're like the head foreman and at their job.
00:50:58
Speaker
And so it's like they're the ones that kind of have everybody line up everybody else's jobs and and get the jobs to get them to where they need to go. so just some natural people skills.
00:51:12
Speaker
yeah yeah so i i mean somebody this would be an example of somebody who is charismatic like that and uses it for evil i choose to think that there are people that have that charismatic quality that use it for good i would agree no i i agree yeah like that guy sucks we can agree on that we're not a fan the mumbling guy No, the mumbling, charming guy. no yeah because Yeah. Because, okay, in in the thing that I go to that tells me, like, whenever things get cut and whatnot, one of the the scene where Phoebe goes up to yell at him, yeah it has, like, ah they they listened and got, like, the words that were actually said or part of the words at the beginning. And the first thing he says to Phoebe is, gosh, you're so beautiful.
00:52:09
Speaker
And like, that's a schmoozer right there. yeah come on. You know, somebody comes to your door and they're angry about something. You don't flatter them like that. That's crazy.
00:52:22
Speaker
Yeah, that's that's that's that's kind of icky. Yeah. yeah but But perhaps that's just adults being, i don't know.
00:52:33
Speaker
I don't know. Yeah. But anyway, ah yeah it is and It is what it is. Whatever. ah because and Sorry. No, you're good. tell you a story about one time my cousin and i Whenever we were in our 20s, we went to Dollywood because that was fun. We got in the car and we went and she lives north of Nashville. And so we just got in the car and went on a little trip and we ended up in ah Pigeon Forge. We went to Dollywood.
00:53:10
Speaker
We were standing in line waiting to drive like old timey cars. And there was a kid that was he could not have been 12 old. I mean, he was he was, you know, much younger than us. But he says to my cousin, he goes, hey.
00:53:28
Speaker
He's like, are you from Tennessee? And she goes, not originally, but now, yeah. And he goes, yeah, I knew it because you're the only 10 I see. And we were like,
00:53:42
Speaker
Are you kidding me? Come on, kid. That was the first time we'd ever heard that pickup line. Right. It hilarious, and we had a good laugh and everything. Right. But always think about that kid.
00:53:52
Speaker
Like, what happened to that kid? Right. Because is that was that was a very calculated thing to say. and yeah you have to have some gumption to do that.
00:54:04
Speaker
Gumption. Yes. Exactly. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Yes. He he took it took his shot. Good good on him. Good on that. cause i mean it is Whatever. Yeah.

Character Developments and Humorous Insights

00:54:17
Speaker
Well, listen, that we um who would be your Gunther Central Park this week, do you think? Rachel. Rachel. right. Tell me why. rachel ah Because she she's like taking her risks now.
00:54:35
Speaker
she like she she She's taken her risks to to grow and to like go out on a limb and follow up about the job and all the things. And so there you go.
00:54:52
Speaker
fine choice. I know what comes next. Indeed. Rachel might be just, you know. no i think that's a very good. That's a good one.
00:55:05
Speaker
good good solid reasoning there because she could ah she could have very easily whenever ross started getting all uncomfortable en act and acting you know she very easily could have been like oh you know you're right i won't call he'll call me or oh you're right it might not be a real thing you know, and she didn't. The continued growth of Rachel that we see, know, it's a, it's a, it's a fun story arc to follow.
00:55:39
Speaker
I think good yeah good for her. I've got a different direction altogether and I've gone with Chandler. Oh!
00:55:48
Speaker
yeah i love From start to finish, to meet this it's a very Chandler-heavy episode, but I love the thing about throwing the pretzel. I love the way he plays both drunk and hungover. Matthew Perry plays them. yeah I just think the the great sides of Chandler's personality we get to see.
00:56:06
Speaker
um and then i felt a bit sorry for him with the seven sisters um yeah but just i just thought chandler had funny lines throughout throughout yes well and john chandler was hilarious and china yeah well hello How many of that girl are you seeing when the seven of them walk in? to Very, very funny. Oh, so funny. You know what? This week, I think it's cold outside, so I think what we need is plenty of cups of yentl soup.
00:56:39
Speaker
Ah, yentl soup. how many cups of yentl soup would you give this episode? I would give this episode
00:56:51
Speaker
Eight. Eight bowls of yentl soup. Are we doing cups of yentl soup? Either way, whichever you prefer, I think. two I'll do cups of yentl soup. Oh, let's do bowls in case you want to give a half, then you can give a cup.
00:57:08
Speaker
You know, i that that's good thinking. I'm going to go with a nice round number. um For me, it's it's a seven. It's a seven. It's okay, but it's nothing to write home about. Must say, I do like soup in a cup because when it's cold, you put your your hands right around it. It's just all about the wintry thing. But yes, seven cups of yentl soup, I think, for me.
00:57:32
Speaker
All right. Well, very good. was going back and forth between seven and a half and eight. yeah And then i thought about the, the yeah, got Drunk Chandler was so funny. He really was. he really was. He was.
00:57:53
Speaker
And then I liked the heart villain of Rachel. And and yeah. place Yeah. And the Moondance Diner. you Oh, and the Moondance Diner. That's always going to bump it up a little bit.
00:58:07
Speaker
Yeah. its like It's like me when we have Janice or a couple of guests come in. It just immediately bumps up the whole episode. Yeah.

Anticipation for Next Episode

00:58:15
Speaker
um Well, all right. Well, I am looking forward to next week. Just to, just to, we should take your blood pressure before and after the next week's episode.
00:58:27
Speaker
Oh, okay. Fun. You know, because it's Ross heavy and it's the one with all the jealousy. oh well yeah Yeah. Oh, and then, ah you know what? We'll take it before I watch the episode, after I watch the episode. And then before we start talking about it, Yes.
00:58:46
Speaker
yeah i think this I think this could be fun. And of course, you don't tell us the numbers, but just if it does indeed go up and down, you know, you that sounds pretty exciting. I'm all for it. Yeah.
00:58:57
Speaker
Blood pressure numbers. Nothing's ever fun like watching those. That's right. We're that station of life where I'll be tuning in. Tell you what.
00:59:09
Speaker
Awesome. All right. well Any final thoughts about this week's episode?
00:59:15
Speaker
it's a good one and it's leading us up to what what will please me it will make me happy in indeed i say that i'm lying i won't be happy because i it makes me sad whenever it all kind of goes out but whatever anyway oh whatever it's a good it's a good season this is a good season and At this moment in time, you know of every episode, I pull up the list of episodes and I always you know just look for next week's, but then glance ahead.
00:59:49
Speaker
And there's some good ones and there's also some iconic ones. Yeah. I mean, this isn't spoiling anything, but um the chicken, the duck, the dollhouse, the tiny t-shirt where Monica and Richard are friends.
01:00:05
Speaker
Like these are, I mean, we all know the ski trip. um wow yeah there's mean some big episodes in this season that we'll get to so i'm pretty excited about it yeah yeah me too me too we can slow down a little bit because i can't believe this was already 11
