Introduction and Weekend Chat

00:00:04
Speaker
Well, hello and welcome to this week's episode of the Purple Door Podcast, a friend's rewatch pod. I'm one of your hosts, Alistair, alongside D&D, and how are you this morning?
00:00:16
Speaker
Pretty great. Pretty excited to sit and talk about some friends with you, Al. Right back at you. Yeah, doing well. It's a hot one this weekend. Yeah, it is. But, you know, the mornings are nice, the evenings are okay, but it's a little steamy out there during the day yesterday and today. So I spent lot time outside yesterday. Today, not so much.

Air Conditioner Fix and Home Anecdotes

00:00:39
Speaker
I'll go out this morning, but this afternoon, I will enjoy the air conditioning, I think. Yeah.
00:00:46
Speaker
that's it's A good air conditioning is a hot commodity. yeah I see what you did there. the per The perils of home ownership. Ours stopped working on Tuesday. Oh, gross.
00:01:01
Speaker
My, you know, and anyone who lives in a part of the world where a big air conditioner is necessity knows that this could be an easy fix or a life-changingly expensive fix. um Thankfully, i reset the unit inside and outside, powered all off, took the fuses out, put them back in, and it's been working ever since. Nice! So, and we we have we we've we've got, coincidentally, our like spring maintenance inspection, whatever it is tomorrow.

Decor and Friends Memorabilia

00:01:34
Speaker
So, thankfully, it's working. And we'll we'll see what they say as they come out. But, yeah, never been more thankful for a good air conditioner than this weekend.
00:01:46
Speaker
Excellent. Okay. I got to take a moment. And I just, I, a you know, every week that we do this, I sit and I, I'm always like checking out what's going on behind you, man, right that my little purple door that I gave you is so cute right there. It's perfect. and It's perfect. It is. And then you got a little taxi cab.
00:02:10
Speaker
Like, if we take a ride in a taxi cab. Right there to the left of them. Right here. Perfect for this episode, that actually. week It is. It is. um But, i i you know, I always hang out up here in George's room. Sometimes I'm in Fred's room and whatever.
00:02:27
Speaker
But I have an area in my house. I i think that... And it's where I've taken my our big purple door. Yes. Okay. And so it's in a window and I've got my mug and I've got my purple door sitting there and it's it so cute. And I want to start recording there, but I have to do it whenever all the boys are gone because nobody's quiet in this house ever.
00:02:54
Speaker
Right. You are a lady in a house full of boys, and that's a tough place to be if you're looking for solitude and quiet. It is. So I'm going to have to strategically think about what times we're recording and things like that, because I want to change my background.
00:03:13
Speaker
i George Court and cars and all all of those superheroes. It's just it's one little shelf and I decide, well, yeah, two shelves. I've got a few things just out of the shop here. I do have other friends memorabilia that have to just live in a little basket here because I've run out of space on the shelf.
00:03:34
Speaker
yeah but these These are things that we're actually getting a new shelving unit thing possibly

3D Printing Adventures

00:03:40
Speaker
today. So there may be some space from for some more forensic display because i have to find a place for the McDonald's toys that I'll be picking up this summer.
00:03:51
Speaker
I can't wait to see them. Yeah, so many listeners will know it. Dotted around the world, but not in the U.S. yet. McDonald's have released little limited edition Friends figurines. My family back in the U.K. have got some for me.
00:04:05
Speaker
So when I go home in a couple of months, we're picking those up. And I've noticed, so they there's the six main characters. And I may talk to your good husband. I don't know. He seems like the kind of chap who might know about 3D printing.
00:04:22
Speaker
Am I right? I thought so. I'm getting a with a whimsical nod. Here's the deal. He knows about 3D printing. Fred knows about 3D printing. And George is currently learning about 3D

Boat Ownership Humor

00:04:36
Speaker
printing. I suspect it. whole thing. It's whole thing.
00:04:40
Speaker
So if you look online, what a lot of people have done is had a Central Park couch 3D printed for all the characters to sit on. And then put the couch. and And put them on there. It doesn't exist. You can't you can't buy it, or get but people are 3D printing them. And I thought, I'm going to have to commission 3D printed Central Park couch. yes Yes. Yes. You tell me the dimensions you need and we're going to get it.
00:05:08
Speaker
I'm on it. As soon as I find out, I'm on it. okay I've seen things that people have given away the file for free. I don't really know what that means. yeah Again, and Mr. Wilson will know exactly what I'm talking about, the 3D printing file.
00:05:23
Speaker
Yep. fred Fred made me a really cool dragon. And it it like has all these things. I got it at school with me. and Yeah, 3D printing is a whole thing.
00:05:37
Speaker
and I love it. It makes such cool stuff. Joseph has 3D printed parts for his car.

Friends Trivia Game

00:05:44
Speaker
See, like I read this and it's like, how is that possible? but Yeah.
00:05:49
Speaker
They have one up at the library here. The Denton Library have like a big maker space. And you can go in and use this stuff. It says for free. I'm sure you can't go up there and print a bunch of stuff. I was going to say no because the filament is not free.
00:06:06
Speaker
Yeah. Maybe the usage of things is free but you pay for the filament. or I don't know. But I keep wanting to go up there and go away to talk to me about this. Talk to me about this.
00:06:17
Speaker
But um i have one thing you so go ahead oh why it say I have no desire to learn how to do it. I just know that we have all the things and i've got I live with people who will do it for me. want to learn how to do it.
00:06:31
Speaker
It's like owning a swimming pool. It's best to know people who have one rather than have one yourself. As a pool owner, I can say this with absolute confidence. It's lovely having one, but man alive, it's good to just to know people with one. Yeah.
00:06:46
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. That's the same thing with a boat. Same Yeah, a boat. And we will say, yeah. that We were discussing boats the other day because that's one of those things. If I literally won a boat in an expensive, nice fishing boat or something.
00:07:04
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Unless I could sell it, I would have to just politely decline. yeah I've got no desire. like i'm not I'll fish from the shore once in a while. That's plenty of fun. I've fished from my kayak.
00:07:17
Speaker
The thought of owning a boat and the headaches that would come with it, I've just got no desire at all. yeah Yeah. COVID was a fun time in life. Right. but god i look Because I love being out on the boat.
00:07:32
Speaker
I love being out on the boat. I wish it just lived in a slip at the lake. And then you just drive over to the lake, hop in the boat, and off you go.
00:07:44
Speaker
Because the washing of it and we always end and we always end up with animals because we've got that big pontoon. Yes. They're animals that i we have like sealed off and I don't know how they get in through the cover.
00:08:03
Speaker
and Right. it's like, but every season after winter, it's like something's been living in here. Yeah, that's no good. Yeah, it's disgusting.
00:08:14
Speaker
Yeah, my brother-in-law, sister-in-law and their kids, they have like a ah boat club. they They are doing it right. They live down in Austin. And it's not Lake Travis. It's another big lake they live very close to.
00:08:27
Speaker
And they're just a member of a boat club. So they pay whatever it is every month. And they just go onto the website and say, I would like a pontoon tomorrow. I would like a fishing boat on Tuesday. And they just click reserve.
00:08:39
Speaker
And they go down and just get handed the keys to the boat. Yeah. No maintenance, no worry, no anything. Yeah. If you're going to boat, that's out of boat, I think. um Yes.
00:08:53
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. yeah So yeah it's a pretty good situation. Yeah. But, yeah, it's, ah yeah, I'm not sure if boats, just not for me. Not for me.
00:09:04
Speaker
um But this week's episode, why don't we get, let's so start looking at this, the one without the ski trip. Before we get into the questions, it just occurred to me before we got on air here, it's the one without the ski trip, but they ultimately do go skiing.
00:09:23
Speaker
I guess there's no ski trip. Well, ah my assumption was at the end, Phoebe continues on. But there is no ski trip in this episode. So maybe that's it.
00:09:34
Speaker
Yeah. um Yeah. Yeah. and We'll see. Yeah. But before we get into that, of course, we have bamboozled. It has been vetted and given the purple door stamp of approval by Kate that we have five different questions. That's true. I deleted the one that we had matching.
00:09:54
Speaker
Yes, we had one. Now, full disclosure, yeah we have two questions that are very different. but apparently have either the same or a very similar answer.
00:10:05
Speaker
Oh, interesting. I don't know what question it is. Kate contemplated telling us to delete it, but went, no, it's a completely different question. Interesting. So I'm not sure what to make of that.
00:10:16
Speaker
Maybe when we're in bamboozled, we'll figure out. But that's... ah That's all the information I have. Full disclosure. Interesting. Might be my extra. i have one extra question. So we'll see. Well, I had to delete my one extra question.
00:10:31
Speaker
Right. Now, once again, i commit every week to to remembering who goes first. but You'll have to remind me. It is me. I go first. You. Yes, sir. Good.
00:10:42
Speaker
All right. Well, hit me with the first question. All right. So at the very beginning, whenever they are in the coffee shop, they're trying to get Rachel out of there before Ross shows up.
00:10:56
Speaker
Rachel wants a cup of coffee. She says, let me get some coffee. Phoebe finds some and gives it to her. What color is that mug of coffee that Phoebe hands to Rachel?
00:11:10
Speaker
I should have thought to look. I've got two guesses in my head. Of course, I could be barking up the wrong tree altogether. Either one. Going with white. both white I was going with white and yellow. i was thinking it was bright, so I'm going with white. Dang, it is completely the opposite. It's the complete opposite, out That would be a black coffee mug. You got it. With some real coffee inside. I didn't get it, but I got it. Not a strong start for me. I should have looked. I didn't think to look for a color-related question this week.
00:11:46
Speaker
Oh, I bet I know what the question

Friends Episode Deep Dive

00:11:49
Speaker
is that we match. Okay, go ahead. Aha, I'm intrigued to see. Well, my first question for you is, also from that that opening Central Park scene, how long have Ross and Rachel been broken up?
00:12:04
Speaker
I'll give you a hint, Chandler mentions it. Yeah, it's almost a week. Yes. I couldn't make out if he said it's been a week or almost a week. So you're right. Yeah.
00:12:14
Speaker
Yeah. One of those. Yeah. Because this is his first weekend being single. So it can't be whole week. That's what I was thinking. Because I was like, what day did they break up? Yeah. yeah So almost a week a week. Well done. You are one nothing up. Good start. All right. How old was Chandler when his parents got divorced?
00:12:33
Speaker
Aha. This is going to be the question. Uh-huh. Because that answer, I'm going to guess, is nine.
00:12:43
Speaker
Excellent. Because I bet your question for me is, how old is Chandler whenever he started smoking? Not only is that my question, that is literally the next question on my list. Well, there you go. It's nine. It's nine. You should get a bonus point for knowing my question and the answer. No way.
00:13:06
Speaker
No way. No way. All right. are two one up and it's my third question from you for me. Okay. How much does a battery cost for the car?
00:13:21
Speaker
Okay. It's in my notes because I'm going between two numbers. Okay, because he says it costs and then he says, but we'll call it an even. I haven't. I haven't.
00:13:36
Speaker
Just poor form. All right. So I think he says we'll call it an even 210. No, 110. No, two. Look at me. Yes, Okay, it's 112, but we'll call it an even 110.
00:13:51
Speaker
yes yes okay it's one twelve with a and but we'll call it an even one ten that Okay, I was thinking $200 was too much because I just bought a car i bought about two car batteries in the last two weeks. row Both of which, one for neither for my car, one for Kate's, one for Macy's, both over $200. Yeah. so i was So when I said that, I like, well, this is 30 years ago. It must be $100 and something. Yes. yeah Yes. well I would give that to you because- You're very generous. Yeah.
00:14:21
Speaker
Because how and why, even if you're going to say to me in my head, either say, here's the receipt, like you can pay me back. Or you could say, just call an even $100. Or you could say, you know, it's on me as a thank you for letting borrow in the car. think All of those would be acceptable to me to say an even $110, like to knock $2 off it or whatever.
00:14:46
Speaker
That's the only unacceptable option to me. It's because it's Ross. It's because it's Ross. Okay. All right. My question for you, let's see, is what two places does Phoebe suggest she and Ross can go to when he gets back?
00:15:07
Speaker
Or sorry, when she gets back, when they get back from the ski trip. The rodeo is the second one. Yep. They can go to a movie. yeah yeah Or the Or the rodeo. I love the excitement in her voice. Yes. I love it. All right. You are three for three. All right. What did Joey borrow from Ross for the ski trip?
00:15:32
Speaker
That would be his goggles because they're tinted. That's all right. Yes. Nice. All right. Mine for you is, and um this question is a little vague, but if you need, if you need you you you're entitled to a small hint.
00:15:48
Speaker
What does the sign in the cab say? ah Beam ah be me up, Jesus. Beam me up. You are word for word correct. Yes. I was going to say what your Chandler says it I just love it so much.
00:16:05
Speaker
But also you would accept no smoking. I would. I see. That was going to be the other thing. If you said no smoking, I was going to ask about the other one. Yeah. ah You are batting four for four.
00:16:18
Speaker
All right. This one's unfair and I apologize. It's fine. But I was like, dang, like, come on. What kind of yeah are What kind of car does Carol to Ross?
00:16:35
Speaker
Okay. Does she say it or do we just see the emblem and stuff on the front? We see that dadgum vehicle so many times. like i my The first question that I had asked is what color and make are the is the car is Carol's car? And then I was like, I sound like a form to fill out or something. Right. So I just, what what kind of car is it?
00:17:00
Speaker
I mean, it's, uh, let's see. I'm going to give you maybe throw couple of answers. Okay. Like, okay. So, so do we need the make and model or just the style of car or what, what kind of, we're looking for? no, du no, no. I definitely the make.
00:17:14
Speaker
And okay I can tell you the model as well. Uh, but if you don't, I had to double check with Joseph to make sure I was right. Yeah. My, cause I was i have between two models.
00:17:28
Speaker
I'm going between two model or two makes, which would then take us down to the model. Because it's quite a long car. It's of those long... But I'm going between Lincoln and... Well, no, a Ford is Lincoln, right?
00:17:44
Speaker
I'm just going with a Ford. It's not. I know it's not. It's not a Lincoln either. um Is it a Cadillac? No, I don't get it. youre get I can picture the car. You're going to have to tell me. It's a Jeep.
00:18:00
Speaker
Is it? It's a Jeep. Yes. And I was trying to figure out if it was a Wagoneer or if it was... I can't think of what the other one was. And Joseph told me, he said... no that's a wagoneer and i said okay but it's a jeep i can see it yeah it's one of those one of those slightly old older jeeps that's right yeah dang i told you that one wasn't fair i'm sorry hey you know what's quite fun this is ridiculous this is ultimate nerddom but i'm gonna see if i can show you this so my the way i score it
00:18:40
Speaker
Actually, let's see. Can I show you? See my score over there? It looks like a Jeep drill. Oh, my gosh. And that's what I was going to say to you is that just the grill alone, you see it. But then at one point, he's standing right there, and you can even see where it says Jeep.
00:18:59
Speaker
It's a terrible podcast. But, yeah, that looks exactly like a Jeep grill. Zero, one, one, one, zero. Ugh. Yes.
00:19:10
Speaker
That's so funny. Okay. Well, you have won, but of course you have another question. Of course I do. Perfect score. I'm just saying I didn't win if it's not perfect.
00:19:21
Speaker
Indeed. Well, this one, you just there's three answers. You just need two. Okay. At the rest stop, what color jackets are the girls wearing? Oh my gosh. I know this.
00:19:32
Speaker
You know this? Monica is black with fur around the hood. You are giving details on top of the right answers. And then Phoebe's is green and she's wearing a red shirt.
00:19:46
Speaker
And Rachel's is, is it red? It's red. you You have got five out of five and extra on top.
00:19:59
Speaker
Look at you go. Yeah, that that... That is... Man, because... You deserve this win. This was this was solid. Thanks.
00:20:10
Speaker
That's awesome. I love it. i I did have a bonus question for you. Yeah, give it to me. Just because we've discussed it before, what's the number of Phoebe's camp?
00:20:23
Speaker
I don't know! I'm now going to check... It's not the same as this cab. My local model cab. Is it like 6376? It's not. it's ah yeah just It's on the top and it's the license plate as well, which i ah I'm sure we've discussed. couldn't remember, but it's 2X85. Oh, okay. yeah but yeah that was I didn't want that to be a question. i just noted it because we discussed it a long time ago.
00:20:55
Speaker
Dang, okay, if that had been one of your questions. Yes. And instead of, what would ah what would the score have been?
00:21:09
Speaker
Let's see. You would, it would have been, well, you won 5-3, so you still would have won. Okay. If I put that question instead of another. Okay. um Yeah, you you you you schooled me on this one.
00:21:22
Speaker
Okay. Yeah, there was just, there was no no come no competition this week. yeah ah Stop it. I feel like you were easy on me. i I don't know. i I thought the three jackets might trip you up and you went into the accoutrements and the accents. yeah Oh, so yeah.
00:21:40
Speaker
Yeah, you were on top of it. Good stuff. All right. Well, let's see. you look I've got that you're winning 5-2, I'm not sure exactly. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Because we have various... You're winning by a lot. I am stepping up my game next week.
00:21:56
Speaker
It's happening. That's terrifying. All right.

Games and Family Connections

00:21:59
Speaker
All right. Well, before we get to next week, let's get stuck into this episode. It's a super long opening scene. Yeah, it is. don't know how many minutes, but it's a long opening scene with Joey and Chandler sitting in Central Park.
00:22:11
Speaker
Chandler's reading the New York Times and Joey asks to see the cartoons. yeah It's the New York Times. sorry And then once they say, like, may I see the cartoons? May I? Yes. Gosh, that's so funny. Yeah.
00:22:25
Speaker
Okay, wait. I'm sure it's just, yes, yes. Do you and Kate, do y'all still play the New York Times games on the app? So we do, we refuse to pay for the crossword, the mini. Isn't it sad?
00:22:38
Speaker
That's sad. I was really sad whenever that fell into the... Every morning we send each other the, let's see, it's the, yeah, the Wardle, the Strands, and the Connections. We do those three every day. yeah We dip in and out of other games. We did pips for a little bit, but the crossword was always the the peak of the game. Like, we love doing the minis. Yeah, and trying to get that time like so fast, right? Yeah. Yeah, because we sit and look at the... like Kate, being a dyslexia therapist, has a way with words and language and all of that stuff.
00:23:14
Speaker
She generally destroys me in word games. like even If I get a good score, hers is generally better. Mm-hmm. So it's kind of interesting, the psychology and how our brains work.
00:23:26
Speaker
Yeah. um And we also have found that if one of us does really well, the other one does really poorly. Huh. It's kind of, it's like an interesting thing. Do you still, do you play them? I do. i do. Yeah. Um, I, not every single day, but I've got, you know, Philip and Lauren, I send them my stuff. And then whenever they play, they send me theirs. Um,
00:23:51
Speaker
And then I'm in a New York Times with Christina and Haley and their family. It's like their whole family and me. I'm Steve. That's fantastic.
00:24:07
Speaker
But, you know, and then i also have a Courtney Tawn that I send back and forth. but I love it. Did you see it's got to have been a year ago.
00:24:18
Speaker
It was in the news. It was a mother and a daughter who would send each other their scores every morning, text across the country. And then the daughter sent it to the mother. The mother didn't respond. And the daughter thought, that's weird.
00:24:30
Speaker
And then she sent it the next day and the mother still didn't respond. She called her, couldn't get hold of the mother. She called the police. The police went and wellness check. And the mother was like duct taped to a chair. She'd been robbed at her house.
00:24:43
Speaker
Oh, my God. And was was ah you know fine in the sense that she hadn't been hurt. The thief had tied her up to the chair, robbed the house, and left. But it was because she didn't play her games, the daughter got concerned because they sent it to each other every morning.
00:25:00
Speaker
ah Yeah, it was kind of, mean, tragic in the sense of we never, you know, but also like kind of amazing that that was how the mother was found and was unharmed. Yes. You know. Wow.
00:25:11
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Just it was down to the New York Times games. So that was interesting. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Huh. Yeah, I do have a tinge of nostalgia for comics in the back of newspapers.
00:25:24
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Like, you know, it's just of our time. I think like that was something I would I would look at when I got the paper. Well, so my mom still gets the paper.
00:25:36
Speaker
She has the Dallas Morning News. And on Sundays with the big color um comic ads, she saves the comics for the boys. so that I love that. That might be the most wholesome thing I hear this week. yeah i love it yeah good for them yeah um but joey has asked politely for the cartoons but this is where phoebe and monica come in and it's all going to start to unravel because ross and rachel can't be in the same room together they got in a fight than the previous night i guess um
00:26:16
Speaker
yeah So I think Rachel came in right to borrow moisturizer from Chandler. You could have just said something. Yeah. so How far is it to say something? Yeah. um And then Chandler says it's like his parents getting divorced.
00:26:30
Speaker
um as As we've discovered, age nine started smoking at the same time. That first cigarette after nap time. It's just a ah great, ah very funny line. Yeah.
00:26:44
Speaker
So this is where you Rachel comes in and the girls try to get her pushed, you know, get her at the door, right? Because Monica's like, I know this great place to get coffee. It's so close. Closer than here? Yeah, that line was so funny.
00:26:58
Speaker
And then Ross comes in and I'm trying to remember. um Did they really talk? Is there any interaction between the two of them? I don't think so.
00:27:09
Speaker
I think it was just like, let's get out of here. Yeah, let's just go. Oh, wait. No, they stand there. Remember? And Phoebe talks for them. Oh, that's right. it's a oh Rachel, I'm really sorry.
00:27:24
Speaker
That's okay. You want to get back together? Yeah, okay. And then she's like, oh ah, did anybody else hear that? Right. and then That's right. That's where the scene ends. So they don't ever say anything. They just look at each other.
00:27:38
Speaker
And then Phoebe interjects that. and Good old Phoebe. Trying to get them back together. yeah um I'm excited about this next scene because it's one of those things I've never, and there's a joke that I've never understood.
00:27:54
Speaker
but So I Google, and if it wasn't for this podcast, I wouldn't have Googled it and found out what in the world it

Character Dynamics in Friends

00:28:00
Speaker
meant. And I found out. Okay. Is this the crying Indian thing?
00:28:07
Speaker
No, although I did Google that that's later on. Okay, we'll talk about the crying. Oh, yeah, that's they were standing outside for that. Never mind. Yeah, and and I found out what that is, but don't know anything about it. So I'm excited to talk to about that. And that's why I hung on to that about the crying Indian. Because I was like, I bet Al doesn't know anything about the crying Indian. No idea. Yeah, no, that's like. idea.
00:28:31
Speaker
just a very vivid memory and image from my childhood. And yeah. Yeah. I'm excited to hear about that. Cause yeah, I had no idea what that meant. Um, but we're in the boys apartment. Joey's trying to use chopsticks, which is just comical. yeah Um,
00:28:50
Speaker
And I hope i've got I've just scribbled down my notes. Rachel comes in with the moisturizer. Here's your moisturizer. like Almost emphasizing it to give it back to Chandler. She happens to have five tickets to the Calvin Klein lingerie show.
00:29:03
Speaker
um But they have plans with Ross. um Is this where he says that he's got a new laser? No, that's later on. yeah know They just say he's got a home theater thingy.
00:29:15
Speaker
That's right. Because I want to ask you about LaserDiscs. We'll get into that. Yeah, he's got a new home theater going to go check out. and um But poor old Joey, his heart is being pulled in two different directions here.
00:29:28
Speaker
because it's models in their underwear or being a good friend to Ross. Yeah. The struggle is real inside Trivia and his head here. Him and Chandler both. Yes. it's It's a tough one for them. um It's weird that Rachel's knocking on the door, not just coming in at this point, because they always just walk into each other's place. Right. But the night before she had probably just walked in,
00:29:55
Speaker
and ross was there that's right yeah that's right so maybe she's yeah crazy did she ask whenever he very first yeah she whenever she knocked and chandler answers the door and she asks is he here that's right that's a good thought so that would be why she's doing that yeah because um nobody likes fighting No, just want to avoid the awkward situation.
00:30:22
Speaker
um But Rachel leaves. Chandler starts smoking again. in the it's Again, it's just a sign of the times. It's so weird to see people just freely smoking inside. Yeah. um It's like it's it's now it's been long enough to where it's just like jarring a bit to see that. like that man, that's that it dates the show. Right. Yeah. Rachel comes back. it lab it made me laugh so hard whenever she's like, you're smoking again. And he's like, well, yesterday it was again. yeah Today I'm smoking still. Smoking still. Yes.
00:30:59
Speaker
Chandler cracks me up through this whole episode. Definitely. just definitely and Not to laugh at his trauma, but it's so funny.
00:31:11
Speaker
and You know what? I think we can. i think it's okay. it's I think it's the point, right? Yeah. It's so good. I'm trying to remember what party says this because this was the thing. I know he's standing by the door and I think it's when Rachel leaves. I just don't remember what when she leaves.
00:31:29
Speaker
But he turns around and goes, it's him 253. His eyes are on the sparrow. I looked that up too. I assumed him 52 53 was, it sounds ridiculous to say this out loud in my head. It was some kind of plane or something like, you I don't know, a Boeing seven, seven, seven or something, you know, same too.
00:31:51
Speaker
And I assumed it was him h I M, but no, it's a, it's a play on the word him. Yeah, him his eyes were on the sparrow, which isn't a real him. It is. it's Or is it?
00:32:03
Speaker
it is. Ah, the thing I looked said, to ah you know, maybe it said it wasn't number 253 in any book they saw or something. Correct. That's the thing, is that the him 253, the
00:32:19
Speaker
you wouldn't Like there are certain hymn books that certain churches use and whatever. Right. But there is a hymn called His Eyes Are on the Sparrow. And it's actually, you can watch a whole lot of videos of people singing intra yeah i it was i had no idea and like i said one of the many many reasons i'm thankful for doing this podcast is it makes me pause and go i need to look that up yeah it's just there's even a a clip a clip or not a clip but it's ah about a three minute video of whitney houston singing his eyes his eye is on the sparrow mm-hmm
00:33:06
Speaker
ah I will need to need to look that up. I mean, um it's a pretty song, but it it sounds like a church hymn. Right. you know Like, you know it's a church hymn.
00:33:18
Speaker
I can't remember if that was before or after Rachel coming back in because she has got sister on the phone and they get to, you know, she's been offered their ski cabin for the weekend, a weekend on the slopes. They have no plan. She's playing by the rules.
00:33:33
Speaker
um So that seems like a that's going to happen. They're going to go skiing this weekend. Yeah. But before that, we go to Ross's apartment. um Again, there's something I love. Maybe this is laughing at his trauma.
00:33:48
Speaker
Chandler being like relegated over to the window. Joey might not mind him smoking all over the apartment. But in Ross's place, maybe because he has a kid, you know Chandler has to sit by the window. Yeah.
00:34:01
Speaker
Yeah, which which seems a little more little more normal. Again, not of this type. like People wouldn't even do that anymore, I don't think.
00:34:12
Speaker
But I'm glad because of Ben being over there that he does that. um He talks about inviting everyone over for a Laserdisc marathon and a darts tournament. I want to ask you kate well about both parts of this.
00:34:25
Speaker
I could have deep-dived and I didn't, but Laserdisc seemed to come and go in about a year. I don't know what ever happened to them. Yeah, um so i i don't know that it was that fast, but I know that like super fancy on the cutting edge, like there was one family that I was friends with that They did the Laserdisc thing. They had this big tv that like you had to you.
00:34:54
Speaker
It was huge. Right. It was huge. And it had like and you could walk between. It was like a movie theater. Like you could walk between the lights and the screen and your shadow would show up on the thing. And the mom would get real mad. you mean Don't walk over there! But, you know, it's cool.
00:35:17
Speaker
It's cool. um I don't know if that even makes sense whenever I say that. But you know how, like, in the movie theater, if you walk in the very back row? Yes. You know, like, you can see your head on the screen?
00:35:31
Speaker
Yep. Okay. So it was kind of like that. so it was like that. and um a And, you know, my mom was... in And they're always wasting money on blah, blah, blah, blah.
00:35:44
Speaker
But, you know, I mean, that's the difference of, like, having money and not having money, right? Right, right. But, yeah, it it came and went really fast.
00:35:56
Speaker
And we never, like, that was the only person I ever knew that had one at the time. Yeah, I don't think I've ever... seen what i've seen laser discs in like you know the mini mall of in the denton square you know kind of not really antiquey places but more like collectible kind of things i've seen the discs the discs but i don't think i've ever watched one seen one in somebody's house yeah i mean and i don't know what i m i don't know i just the laser Maybe. I don't know. Al, I mean, i don't even know if what I'm thinking of is what that is or not. My my assumption was they're just big DVDs.
00:36:43
Speaker
Yeah. So it was the transition from a VHS tape to a DVD, and DVDs were smaller. Yeah. so they So they just didn't last long because the technology moved quickly. Yeah. Okay.
00:36:55
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, Because... now yeah so Yeah. Yeah. I'll have to maybe look into that. But darts. Have you ever played darts? do you have any feelings about darts? I enjoy throwing darts.
00:37:11
Speaker
Right. That's all. That's it? I couldn't tell you. I've played. I know it's easy to keep score, but I never remember how to do it. And so yeah I always get reminded whenever we go to do it. But That's all. So tell me a story about darts.
00:37:29
Speaker
So I enjoy playing darts. I don't have a dart board. If we had the right place for one, i would get one. I enjoy just, you know, now and again, let's just throw some darts. Very relaxing.
00:37:39
Speaker
But I do enjoy watching like the world championships. interesting But they're not they're not usually on the television here. But they were on Peacock. Peacock streamed all of them this time.
00:37:51
Speaker
And I don't think we've talked about this on the podcast, but in the UK especially, well, really in Europe, in London, it is an event.

Road Trip Anecdotes

00:38:02
Speaker
25,000 people show up to watch the darts.
00:38:04
Speaker
They convert the theater place where it is to like just having like a beer hall, like just huge long tables. Everyone dresses up like in like Halloween costumes. Yeah. And there is chanting, there is singing. the the The players come on who all kind of stereotypically look like they're balding guys with big beer bellies. And they have, you know, like wrestlers. You know, they have songs they come into.
00:38:30
Speaker
And it's just fun. Kate got into it when it was on. Like she would wake up on a Saturday morning go, is the darts on? which is just just words you would never think would have come out of her mouth um so she really enjoyed watching world championship um this year with me so we had some some good bonding over the darts nice um so yeah one of these days if i think there's the right place to put a dartboard i'll get one yeah um
00:39:00
Speaker
But they can't they can't have a darts tournament where Ross goes, it'll be great. Can't do it because they're skiing. Which explains why they were talking in the accent. Yes.
00:39:11
Speaker
Ah! Okay. at that At that time, some of the biggest darts players, both in probably both in terms of size and stature in the darts world, were Scottish. like If you look at darts in the ninety s the guys are literally throwing darts with ah a tankard of beer and and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth.
00:39:33
Speaker
You know, the players would like each other's cigarettes. Like, it's just... Awesome. It was a different time. Truly a different time. Nice. Yeah. His name has suddenly escaped me, but one of the most famous Scottish darts players like was quite famous in the 20s. He had no teeth because his mother told him that the English poisoned the Scottish tap water, so he wasn't allowed to brush his teeth.
00:39:59
Speaker
um But when he became a really world famous darts player, a company bought him like a full set of teeth. um It's just, it's it's it's it's ah such a fascinating and funny world, the darts world.
00:40:15
Speaker
Huh. Yeah. um But anyway, but they're not they're not going to be able to play darts because they're going skiing. And this is where they kind of debate about, oh, I'll stay. I'll stay. Phoebe, Joy, and Monica, I think, all offered to stay initially.
00:40:29
Speaker
But Ross doesn't want a pity state. It's fine. And then Chandler goes, well, basically, if you guys have all offered, I'll offer. Yeah. um But things this Monica said that they can stay and make fudge.
00:40:43
Speaker
Pity food. d Ross not interested any of it. No. um We end up in the cab and they kind of feel bad about leaving Ross, except Joey who borrowed his tinted ski goggles.
00:40:58
Speaker
um I do love that Joey maybe didn't read the room and went over to borrow the goggles. Of course. Well, mine aren't tinted. so Right. I mean, logical, guys.
00:41:11
Speaker
Yeah, good why not borrow Ross's? He's not using them. We know this. Why any of them own ski goggles? you know Do they ski much? I don't know. Yeah, don't know.
00:41:23
Speaker
um Chandler wants to smoke, but Phoebe won't allow it in the can. We know there's no smoking and a sign that says, beam me up, Jesus. um how How are you guys on road trips? Like...
00:41:36
Speaker
is Joseph like a, ah we only have scheduled stops like as some guys can be, or are we frequently stopping? Can if we get there when we get there? Like, yeah.
00:41:47
Speaker
We get there when we get there. Yep. I like it. i where I'm more, I'm more than that is like, and I've gotten a lot better over the years, but like I was one, if especially if I was taken, uh,
00:42:05
Speaker
a road trip by myself or, you know, if we're stopping because somebody has to go to the bathroom, wait until we need gas.
00:42:16
Speaker
So that it's a two for one, one stop. And right that, you know, how and then, you know, then I had kids and, you know, you have to be like like flexible.
00:42:29
Speaker
Yeah. Yes. And so, yeah, Joseph is not, he likes to know where we're going and like, when are we going to be there? And he's one that is like, let's just power through and get there the rest of the way, you know? And I'm one that I'm like,
00:42:46
Speaker
Like whenever we went. Did I tell you about whenever we went and toured tech and we stopped at the terrifying motor or ah motor inn and there was only one key for all the rooms.
00:43:06
Speaker
Yikes. Oh, it was awful. And so like it's me and Joseph and Fred, my six foot husband and my six foot we'll We'll just say six foot son so my husband doesn't get mad at me. after Understood.
00:43:22
Speaker
um And the first room that I open up is has one double bed. And I went back to this guy and I'm like, there's like literally nobody else here.
00:43:34
Speaker
i have my 17 year old son is like, this isn't going work. So then we go to the next room, which by the way, there's still only one key.
00:43:47
Speaker
And I, yeah, it was was so weird because we pulled up, it had had like ordered it through Travelocity. And so like pull up and that's my job. Whenever we're we're traveling, whoever's driving is driving. Whoever's riding, that's their job to get the accommodations. And then whenever you arrive at the place to go in and make sure everything's all good. So we pull up to this place and I get out and you can't walk into the lobby. There is this sign, handwritten sign on the door that says, please call this number.
00:44:28
Speaker
and And it's just taped on there and the tape is kind of falling off. And I'm like, this is weird. So I call the guy and I'm like, hey, so, you know, we're here. I reserved a room. And so he comes and he lets me in And I walk in and like there's a calendar that is hanging. That's like on November 2024. this February 2026.
00:44:53
Speaker
and this is february of twenty twenty six So I'm like, you know, and then there's this giant handwritten sign that says no illegal activity.
00:45:08
Speaker
And I'm just like, there are things about this that just don't make me feel real great. Yep. And so then he's like, oh, okay. And he's like, all right, I got you. I got you. He's like, well, come on, I'll i'll walk you to the room. The TV doesn't work.
00:45:27
Speaker
And I said, what do you mean? And um he's like, well, ah you know, we've only got one cable box and there's is seriously one car in the parking lot and it's his.
00:45:43
Speaker
So this is not good. No. And so I said, ah that really sucks, man. Like, that sucks. And he says, well, i'll I'll see if I can't get it and get it hooked up in your room.
00:45:57
Speaker
And I said, OK, great. That's that's great. thanks So yeah we go. And then he says he opens up the door. And he says, okay, here you go. And then he takes the key off the key ring and hands it to me and he says, this is the only key there is. i can't find the other keys.
00:46:15
Speaker
And I said, oh, okay, great, thanks. And so then I look in the room, And it's tiny. and it's got this little baby head. So I like, and Joseph rolls down the window. He's like, what's happening right now? And I was like, don't worry. It's all I got this. And I'm thinking, oh, my God. So I go and I tell the guy and I'm like, look, I have my 17 year old son with us. Like, we can't.
00:46:44
Speaker
There's not even like room for all three of us to fit inside of this room standing up. like hate Right. right now Oh, okay, okay. So we go to the next room, and it's got two big queen beds.
00:46:57
Speaker
And he's like, don't worry, I'll get the TV set up. And I'm like, okay. And I'm thinking this at this point, like that's the least of my worries. Right. um And so we go and we walk in and for whatever reason, I shut the door to check the lock.
00:47:16
Speaker
Because something in my gut said something's not right here. Right. ah The deadbolt doesn't work. that and No, this is not a good situation. And so I'm like, what the heck? So I go to the guy and I'm like,
00:47:34
Speaker
Hey, so you know that that door doesn't lock. And he's like, Oh, no. And I said, No. So we walked back over and um I shut the door and he locks like the doorknob lock. And he goes, Yeah, and it locks.
00:47:51
Speaker
And I was like, No, the deadbolt. And so I like show him it doesn't do anything like it turns but like the thing doesn't come out. Right. And he goes, oh, yeah, but the door still locks. And so by this point, Joseph's gotten out of the car and is listening to all of this. And then he looks at me. He goes, go get back in the car.
00:48:14
Speaker
And he goes, we're good, man. We're just driving on. And I was just like, okay. And so I gave him the key. Joseph's like, neither one of us were even going to get any sleep. So we might as well just drive the rest of the way. And I'm like, nothing good. Okay. Well, so I spent the next two hours on the phone figuring out how to get our money back.
00:48:41
Speaker
Did you get your money back? No. I ended up getting a $100 coupon from Travelocity, which more than covered the price of the room. But let's not pretend that it, you know, we got like $15. Right.
00:48:57
Speaker
Yeah, that was ah wild. Because then they called the guy to tell to like verify that we weren't there. And the guy was telling them that, yeah, they left.
00:49:09
Speaker
But like, we're not going to refund the money. She's signed.
00:49:15
Speaker
that's That's a horrific story. That's so bad. Right. Yes. It's a modern-day Bates Motel. Joseph was like, who knows what kind of sketchy sketchiness because it doesn't take anything to fix a deadbolt.
00:49:33
Speaker
Right. like it didn't So, like, why why are you trying to make sure that you know And then why do you need to have a giant handwritten sign that says no illegal activity?
00:49:47
Speaker
i Right. Lots of bread and butter. caused you? That was the murder hotel or the murder motel that we did not stay at. Good. I'm glad you decided just to push on through.
00:50:01
Speaker
Yeah, Kate's in charge of that stuff in our house. I've once or twice booked a slightly less than acceptable accommodation. um One of them sounds very similar, but it was on the way to Austin, so I know it was different.
00:50:15
Speaker
But Kate is, I think she treats it like a sport. Yeah. cause She's like, how can I get, you know, an appropriate standard? But how can I get the most bang for my buck? Absolutely. like when she When she books the room, she knows what's in it.
00:50:30
Speaker
she's you know She's read the reviews. She knows everything there is to know about about this. And it's going to be the the best one for the price. Um, whereas I own the fact I'm a little more, eh, what's if it's, what's the cheapest one? That's fine.
00:50:44
Speaker
Yeah. And I move on with my date. Yeah. She is much more diligent. Yeah. It depends on the mood, but our, our options were extremely limited because we were driving to West Texas, you know, after school and yeah, but we ended up paying $10 more And it was a much nicer ah situation. Very nice. good Worth every penny. I was like, there you go.
00:51:10
Speaker
Lubbock, you are my friend. Let's see. So Rachel, they pull into the rest stop at this point. um You ever locked yourself of your car?
00:51:24
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I've just done it once. I was trying to think this because I was asking myself this question. I've done it, I think, just once. I'm not sure if you were there. I don't think you were because I can't really remember who I was with.
00:51:38
Speaker
But three or four years ago, we did the Denton Coffee Crawl, which is where it's for charity. And you go around and you have a ah little cup of coffee like 10 different places. And a loted I know we were with a group, and I don't remember who was in the group.
00:51:52
Speaker
So it may well not have been you. But... um ah went We went inside place, Cafe Brazil, which is no longer in business. Went back out to my truck, went to get my keys out my pocket, and suddenly realized that I could hear my truck running.
00:52:07
Speaker
Went to open the door. no. And so somebody, I don't even remember who was, gave me a ride back home, which thankfully, two miles, if that, to my house.
00:52:18
Speaker
Got the spare came back, and that was

Plot Points and Humor Analysis

00:52:21
Speaker
that. Wow. I think it's the only time that's happened. Yeah. um Yeah. It's one things. That truck was the wasn't the best. It would fall apart often, but that was, I'm assuming, user error.
00:52:34
Speaker
um Rachel isn't going to pee, but she gets out, and this is where she accidentally locks the keys in the car, and the keys and Chandler's lighter, which is a yeah a bit of a catastrophe for him um joey needs to get the wire against a wire to kind jimmy the lock which leads to a funny debate about the the biggest boobs out the three really funny it was funny and and his logic is logical like it's airtight yeah Okay. Now, right before that is whenever they were talking about the crying Indian coming over.
00:53:20
Speaker
Ah, yes. About the trash or something. Talk to me about this. Okay. And so, you know, the don't mess with Texas and you've heard don't mess with Texas, right? Like that? Yes. Like the state's motto. The state's motto about you don't litter.
00:53:35
Speaker
You don't litter. Okay. That was what it was. And it was always like on the side of a trash can. Don't mess with Texas. But then there was also the crying Indian. And he would just be, it was like a, he was dressed in like, um you know, stereotypical Indian garb.
00:53:56
Speaker
Right. And he would just stand there and he would cry. there'd be just a single tear. Oh, a single tear. You know, somebody would like be driving down like the road somewhere very beautiful.
00:54:09
Speaker
And then they throw trash out and then the Indian would appear and just the tear would go down because it was keep America beautiful. Like you...
00:54:20
Speaker
Take care of your surroundings and, you know, all of that. But apparently that whole, the crying Indian public service announcement started 1971.
00:54:32
Speaker
Right. that It was around for a while. Yeah. And it, because like, I remember that popping up and it would, Oh, and it would make me want to cry. it would make me want to cry because it was like, yeah you know, it just was so sad.
00:54:48
Speaker
And I was very sensitive. like well yeah I guess it did its job then. It did for me. yeah But I mean, we see the trash on the roads. It did not do it for everybody.
00:55:02
Speaker
Right.
00:55:05
Speaker
Let's see. um So, yeah, Joey gets he gets the car open with the wire, um but then it's immediately, it it dies, and Phoebe goes, he has done this before. I've got put more gas in it. um Terrible timing. Well, I suppose it's better than being on the side of the road. It's a very unfortunate timing that ah the cars run out of gas.
00:55:29
Speaker
We go over to Carol and Susan's apartment. um Ross has stopped by just to see if Carol has this videotape, why he doesn't call. i guess he's oblivious to the fact. Because he doesn't want to be by himself.
00:55:43
Speaker
Yeah, i suppose it's not really about the tape. um He seems gi completely in the dark that this is a special... but Well, no, he does know because um Carol...
00:55:56
Speaker
tells him, right, that, you know, it's an anniversary. And he still just kind of ignores it. um She tries to get rid of Ross. He's just not leaving.
00:56:07
Speaker
um I've written down Susan's very generous, but she's A, not in the scene, and know and I think I mean Carol. Like, she's trying to accommodate Ross. A bit. Like, you tell she is good-natured.
00:56:19
Speaker
She's trying to be ah yeah be patient. um as She is. And then she offers to have dinner with him tomorrow night. And, you know, she is being a good friend.
00:56:32
Speaker
and Because, obviously, i mean, she married the man. So she obviously has feelings for him, you know, and not just not though the right kind of feeling, the right kind of feelings, right? um And, yeah.
00:56:51
Speaker
And she's a master manipulator, so, of course, she's trying to tell him whatever to get him out. To get out. Yeah. um We go back to the rest stop. Triple A can pick them up, but they're not sure what town they're in.
00:57:04
Speaker
They don't know where they are. Well, they say they're on Route 93 or 76, which I did a little deep diving into this. And there we'll get into this. They're both legitimate roads they could be on in the fact that they are.
00:57:21
Speaker
in New York State, going the right direction. The phone number that they're calling from with the area code is not correct. It's in Pennsylvania. So there's a little bit mismatch there. But my thought was, and again, it's a TV show.
00:57:36
Speaker
We shouldn't dive into it too much. But surely even and i say even in the 90s, like it's 100 years ago, but in the 90s, AAA would be able to see where that phone number is and know where that rest stop is. Somebody's going to be able to put two and two together.
00:57:52
Speaker
I would think. I would think. They'd be able to see. You would think so because this isn't going to be the first person that has ever had to call for help from that pay phone.
00:58:05
Speaker
Right. And if you pull off to a rest stop, I certainly don't necessarily look at the exit number, you know, especially if you're just out there somewhere to stop. Let's pull over.
00:58:17
Speaker
I don't know the number. Um, so yes, somebody is going to put that together. Um, they suggest calling Ross, but Rachel is not having it, um, at this point. Um,
00:58:28
Speaker
We're back at Carol and Susan's. ear Ross is incredibly self-centered, I think. um But this is where Phoebe pages him. That's right. This is where he says 717. You know, what's the deal with the area? It's in South Central Pennsylvania, like where Rand Harrisburg is. So that's pretty far away and nowhere near the highways that it's um you know that they've she's just told the operator where they are.
00:58:54
Speaker
Yeah. um But this is this is where Susan, no, Carol. Sorry. I don't know why I've written Carol someplace and Susan. I think it's because he's at Carol and Susan's. But where she says, just take my car because she sees an opportunity to get rid of Ross at this point.
00:59:12
Speaker
um i don't know what it was like in the ninety s but it does surprise me how many people own a car who are living in manhattan that to me seems like a sign of like wealth and luxury it's just part just where you're gonna park it and because you know he it is not cheap um Yeah, it just it surprised me that it would seem to be unnecessary expense.
00:59:39
Speaker
Like it just even if you've got an old beef nut car, just the the parking alone seems like it would be crazy. um But Susan gives, no, see I've done it again. I've just, I've interchanged between the names and my notes. That's so funny. um Ross ends up with the car, thankfully.
00:59:58
Speaker
um We go back to the ver rest. so I don't know why I love it so much the way Joey spells help backwards. I think it just shows his childlike. For the helicopters.
01:00:10
Speaker
Yeah, play is written. Well, okay, but hang on. But before that, I thought it was yeah funny because, um yeah, Rasa told Carol the whole story, apparently, and made himself the whole victim.
01:00:25
Speaker
Oh, that's right. And then she gets on the phone with Phoebe. Yes. And then, um yeah, she's like, I'm sorry that Rachel dumped you. And I'm sorry you're the victim. And I'm sorry Rachel fell in love with the guy at work, which that's not what happened.
01:00:41
Speaker
No. And he omitted something, a missing piece of this big puzzle. Yes. Yes. And then, you know, and then she gets back on the phone to say Ross is on his way. And she's like, what?
01:00:54
Speaker
ah You know, with the Z-Ross. Ross's comeback is pretty funny. and We were on a break. Yeah. When he goes, um you she says, you slept with another woman? Well, well well you're you're one to talk.
01:01:08
Speaker
I thought it was just... was was I mean, Ross is... He's been caught. He is being caught here. He's not completely a victim. No, at least tell the whole story and go from there.
01:01:22
Speaker
um Ross pulls up in the in the what we have now found out is a jeep. of The Wagoneer. Yeah. BB feels bad that they're going skiing without him.
01:01:33
Speaker
um I think Monica asked Rachel if she'd be okay with Ross going and she so she says no. um I get such a silly joke but i love it. Chandles like, handle Handles my middle name.
01:01:46
Speaker
Actually, the middle part of that. It's the middle of my first name. There wasn't a long setup, but I would have forgiven them if there had been a long setup, because that's it that's a good joke. Yeah, it is. um Ross and Rachel do start to argue here.
01:02:03
Speaker
um Ross kind of throws Monica under the bus a bit by saying that Monica agrees with him, and then that Joey agrees with him. um turns into a big argument and then Chandler starts doing this silly dance which I'll ask you about
01:02:21
Speaker
Ross and Rachel do agree to be civil which is good Ross tells them they could go Kate felt that Rachel wasn't best behaved in this scene like she was really instigating the argument Ross was just helping his friends out oh yeah she didn't even thank you Yeah, she was like, I'm very much on Rachel's side 95% of this situation.
01:02:50
Speaker
But there's nothing. and Ross was a good friend. He didn't instigate. He didn't come in with a sarcastic comment to to send you know to start an argument. He did the right thing. Rachel was kind of out of line here, I think.
01:03:03
Speaker
um But Ross is okay spending the whole day with Ben um tomorrow. And Chandler tells Ross, and I don't know what this is, but he was doing a Shelley Winters impression from the Poseidon adventure.
01:03:19
Speaker
I did a quick Google and didn't really get what this dance was. I think I'd missed something. Interesting. Because i didn't even catch all of that at all. ah Like, I saw the thing. But, like, that dance move, like that, it's, like, it's all over. Like, um it makes me think of Looney Tunes.
01:03:44
Speaker
Like, and whenever the Looney Tunes are dancing, and the frog that sings and, hello, my honey, hello, my darling. Yes. Yeah, yeah I what you're saying. Yes. Uh-huh.
01:03:58
Speaker
Yeah, no, it's from this other thing. I don't i don't know. i i did a quick Google and just... If you Google it, you find lots of people asking about it on, like, friends' reddits and things.
01:04:11
Speaker
And I didn't go and watch the dances she does in this movie, but everyone was saying it's nothing like this at all. Like, she does some dancing and some bits and pieces, but nothing like Chandler. So...
01:04:23
Speaker
So who knows? Who knows? um Ross goes to leave and that his battery has died. um We go back to Carol and Susan's and just to show again a little integrity on the ah the bamboozled.
01:04:39
Speaker
The battery costs $112 as it says in my notes and Ross says it's an even 110. I think that's such a jerk thing. um Either just say, here's the receipt, so she feels like you know she'll pay him back for the whole battery.
01:04:55
Speaker
If you're going to round down to $100, or just say, here's the battery. um you know just It's just my gift for you loaning me the car. Just thank you for that. To round it down $2 is the worst thing you can do, I think.
01:05:16
Speaker
Right, exactly. yeah like It's such a weird thing. It's so weird. Don't act like you're doing somebody a favor by reducing it. Two dollars works out to less than 2% of what it is. Yeah, Ross.
01:05:29
Speaker
But again, Ross sucks. Ross being Ross. Yeah, let's just let's just let's just call it an even 110. Yeah. not Now, is that the final scene? Is that the last bit there? Yeah. Yeah, that's what i thought because suddenly I've got no more notes left.
01:05:46
Speaker
Yeah, because Carol pushes him out and shuts the door that and then it's black. you know And then he's like, okay, I guess I'm going to take off the Yeah, I guess I'm yes i'm done.
01:06:01
Speaker
yeah That's it.

Conclusion and Social Engagement

01:06:04
Speaker
Yeah. um Well, I think what can we measure this week? It could be gallons of gas. It could be ski goggles. We can't really get. Let's just say how many gallons of gas do we think? Okay. Well, I give this episode. I give this one a solid eight gallons of gas.
01:06:24
Speaker
A solid eight. All right. I'm I'm going with a seven. okay funny moments Funny moments, but not nothing nothing outstanding for me, I don't think. yeah um There were a lot of spots that made me laugh out loud, which is why I pumped it up and gave it the eight. is because And and that that'll lead me into my Gunther Central perk.
01:06:50
Speaker
because it's a fine storyline the end you know what i mean it's fine it's awkward and yeah whenever you have a group of people and people in that friend group date and then it screws up the dynamic of the whole friend group right like it's a fine story makes sense but then you added in chandler Then you added in Chandler, which is why I feel good saying a good solid eight because I laughed a lot in this episode. And one of them was whenever Joey and his logic of of where, it how he would get the best wire, you know? um
01:07:34
Speaker
But like Chandler with the smoking and then the line about yesterday I was smoking again. Today I'm smoking still. The dance at the end, the comments, the handle. handles my middle name. Actually, it's the middle of my first name. Like all of these aligns and and he's just unhinged. he's He's just doing his best, reliving some childhood trauma and just, you know, trying to make everybody laugh.
01:08:06
Speaker
oh Yes. Like, it's so great and so funny. so It is. Yeah. It is. And I i was going to go with Chandler, too.
01:08:18
Speaker
Mm-hmm. For exactly the exact reasons you said, these moments of comedy genius. But I'm i'm going a different direction this week. Hmm. Wasn't in it much. I'm giving it to Carol. Okay, I wondered.
01:08:31
Speaker
Yeah, because she wasn't in much, and I acknowledge that. Her patience with Ross on her anniversary night, and it's safe to assume that when he comes back with the car, Susan is also there, and she still doesn't lose her mind with it at any point. She's loving.
01:08:50
Speaker
steers Ross you know she she steers ross with Not gently, firmly, but fairly in the right direction. You're going to take the car because you're not a jerk.
01:09:01
Speaker
Go take care of your friends. I think Ross's behavior is so. but yeah Yeah, he's not thinking about anyone else but himself. And she still treats him well.
01:09:13
Speaker
Yeah. Even in that moment. So just a little nod to Carol, I think, this week for me. Let's look ahead next week. Oh, man.
01:09:25
Speaker
The one with the hypnosis tape. I can't remember much, but there's one scene that is... And Chandler doesn't even say anything. I won't ruin it. Okay. He just enters the scene, and I can picture it and picture what he's wearing.
01:09:43
Speaker
I think he's just in the background even. And it just kills me. It's so funny. So I am excited to talk about this one. See? Okay. I don't remember. I just remember that he's got the Walkman thing and he lays down and listens to it while he sleeps. That's all I remember about this episode. So I'm excited. Yeah.
01:10:10
Speaker
There's another scene, and ah and I won't ruin it, gig because I wouldn't ruin it in because I don't remember the details. somebody There's two other characters talking, and he's just in the background, and he gets me every time. Okay. I can't wait.
01:10:23
Speaker
Can't wait. All right. Well, I think that's it for this week. um Man, it was good to record and talk about this one. Any final thoughts before we wrap this up?
