Recap of Friends Trivia Night

00:01:47
Speaker
times. But almost as exciting, if not as exciting, was our Friends Trivia Night we hosted on Sunday.
00:01:55
Speaker
Oh, Al, that was pretty darn exciting. It was so good. It was so good. And oh my gosh, there were some people that knew some friends.
00:02:09
Speaker
Yes. And then there were some people who ended up, hey, we're just here for the vibes. And then there was, yeah, but all across, great vibes, great people. Good times. was so fun. Good times. Thank you to our friends over at Miss Angelina's for hosting us again and entrusting us with their cocktail lounge as we...
00:02:33
Speaker
I met him. It was so much fun. So much fun. We posted a few pictures on Instagram and TikTok and all of that. So if you're listening, they go have a little look over there because it was great and they've already asked us to come back again. going to work out when, where, ill or we don't where, but when yeah at some point.
00:02:54
Speaker
Yes. um And hopefully the weather will be as absolutely perfect as it was that night out on the patio. Like it could not have been just a more positive, good time that it was had.
00:03:09
Speaker
And so, yeah, thank you to everybody who came out. And our friends at Miss Angelina's are just awesome. It's just a great place to be. Absolutely. Absolutely.

Mixing Up Friends Episodes

00:03:20
Speaker
Well, let's see. So this week, I i think I was just, I've had a very busy couple of weeks. So when a up until I watched this week's episode, I had the wrong episode in my head.
00:03:33
Speaker
We've already done the one with Phoebe's husband. but Yeah. Because for some reason when I saw X partner, in my head i thought oh that that's weird i thought we'd done that one yeah with the ice skating husband the ice skating canadian husband of course as soon as the very first scene i was like oh i've got the wrong episode all together um so very thankful that uh for this episode i like this episode it's a great episode yeah yeah i think it really is um
00:04:05
Speaker
And again, it's one of those ones where, oh yeah, I remember Phoebe's X point, but I've forgotten some of the the other things that go on. Yeah. So I'm just writing down because ah suppose we could talk about this now um because it doesn't really fit in with the review.

Sherilyn Fenn's Experience on Friends

00:04:22
Speaker
But I reached out to Sherilyn Fenn, who is the lady who plays Ginger. Yes. And I've reached out to several people over the course of this podcast. Some have never gone back to me. That's fine.
00:04:35
Speaker
Some have and have been very nice. So our friend Mary Gallagher, top of the list, of course. Way to go, Mary Gallagher. Mary Gallagher. She's a funny lady.
00:04:46
Speaker
But if you anyway. yeah Yes. Sherilyn responded within minutes to my message. And here's a funny thing. And I guess this is, a you know, just that she's like, I really didn't have a great experience on the show.
00:05:04
Speaker
She was like, but it really wasn't anything to do with my interpretation was she said in a few messages. It was like she was kind of last minute, so rushed on, rushed off. And then she's like, I've got to be honest, I don't like, I've never watched the episode. i don't like laugh tracks. I don't like sitcoms.
00:05:21
Speaker
So she said, i would come on your podcast. I'd be more than willing talk about it. said, really don't have much to say or much to add because it's not my kind of thing at all.
00:05:32
Speaker
It was a quick two-day job. That was it. I would love to talk with her anyway. That's what I said. And then she was very nice. She said, let me think about it because I don't want to be, I think she said something like you know, don't be like negative or, you know, but all, but all I know is my story.
00:05:49
Speaker
And I said, I, I'd still love to talk to you. know And she said, I'll think about it. I'll let you know. She thanks me very much for reaching out. with Lovely lady. We'll see what happens. Yeah. I would

Friends Trivia Game

00:06:00
Speaker
just, I would just, ah you know, I love to hear people's stories.
00:06:04
Speaker
Like just, and not even necessarily directly related because my gosh, like Mary Gallagher, she's got this whole thing over here. Like we loved to hearing her story, but right what an awesome human doing amazing things.
00:06:19
Speaker
so Yes. Okay. And who is it that she looks like that is famous? Because, oh, I know who I think she looks like. Who do you think she looks like? I think she looks like Tiffany Amber Thiessen.
00:06:32
Speaker
Back then. like Was she in Baywatch? No long black hair? Yeah. So she was ah she was um Kelly Kapowski on Escape by the Bell. She was on 90210. But they have very similar looks, but she's just beautiful, right? Right. And whenever you had messaged me that you had talked to Ginger, and I was like, who's Ginger? And I obviously had not watched the episode yet.
00:07:01
Speaker
And then i was like, oh, that's Ginger. And I was like, do you know that i if you had not told me, I would have spent time on this episode figuring out if that was her.
00:07:16
Speaker
If that was Tiffany Amber Thiessen. Right. they just look very similar to me. Very, very similar. will need to pull up a couple of pictures. And she very much has that 90s hair that I just was so jealous of. Like, it just, you know what I mean? Like, just very cute. But, yeah, like, that's what I thought.
00:07:38
Speaker
So I would love to chat. Like, I think it would be so fun. Yes, that's what told her. said, even if it's, you know not bubbly and upbeat. that Just whatever happened, happened. And I'd love to hear the story. and she was Like I said, she was very nice.
00:07:53
Speaker
Yeah, of course. So we'll see what happens there. But before all of that, of course, we have to get into Bamboozled.
00:08:03
Speaker
Let me I believe you are winning three one That's true. guys You are 3-1 ahead. I would like to point out that Sunday night, we did have a Geller cup there.
00:08:17
Speaker
And I don't want you to be concerned. There is another Geller cup. So don't, that is specific to this. And then there will another Geller cup that will live at Miss Angelina's.
00:08:31
Speaker
Yes. I'm just saying Geller Cups. love that. Geller Cups. You get a Geller Cup and you get a Geller Cup. Everyone gets a Geller Cup. This is, again, not good for podcasting, but let's see if I can do this. Not everyone has an awesome friends.
00:08:50
Speaker
yeah so he Yes, which Rosa gave me a gift at the Tribune Night. It was right here over my shoulder. with There it is. Yes. Those bum-bums are so cute.
00:09:01
Speaker
I didn't realize there was a set. Yeah.

Ross's Behavior in Friends

00:09:04
Speaker
There is. yeah It's a thing. It's it's a thing. love it. It's thing. Well, let's see. who's Who goes first today? I've forgotten. Uh-oh.
00:09:15
Speaker
I feel like I should know this, but I don't. um I think I went first last time. Okay, we'll go with it. Because I think on odd episodes, you... No, I go first on odd episodes. You go first on even episodes. All right. Because you let me go first because I'm a lady.
00:09:33
Speaker
There we go. That's right. All right. So i will start off with my first question. Why does Chandler like the lady singing in Central Park? that I'll say i I would struggle with how to phrase this.
00:09:48
Speaker
u Is it because she's like this? It's because she can do two things at once. Oh, because she can sing and play the guitar.
00:10:00
Speaker
Yes. There you go. Because I was like, I think it was Ross that was saying she's like this. Yes, it was Ross. And then, yeah, ah this was also something that's not great for podcasting because nobody can see me dancing. But that's You know, they can hear the finger snapping and I suspect they can picture in their head.
00:10:20
Speaker
yes Okay. In the opening scene, what does Ross have to eat?
00:10:30
Speaker
Man alive, I have no idea. He never takes a bite of it. He messes with it. It sits there. Is it, I feel like this is too simple of an answer. Is it a muffin? It is a muffin. Yes. That was a complete guess. I was like, what's something they often have? All right. We are we are one for one each.
00:10:52
Speaker
Nice. All right. Question two. Again, in the opening scene, what color is Phoebe's coffee mug? It's yellow. It is indeed. And Ross's is blue.
00:11:08
Speaker
it's like we know each other at this point now here's here's ah just for um um a moral bonus point okay that doesn't mean i think what does phoebe's coffee cup say oh oh i i was trying to figure it out because i've told you i watch the dvds it's a little funny i thought it was the central perk logo as did i and that's why i noticed it wasn't okay what was it it says extra jolt Oh, wasn't that the name of the coffee on the box?
00:11:43
Speaker
That's a very good question. Whenever Rachel was moving the boxes? I feel like you might be right. It does ring a bell. like so like maybe was that and it would make sense.
00:11:55
Speaker
central Yeah, if they have just all of that coffee. ah Yeah, you got it, though. Yellow. Yeah, I did. All right. What was Ginger's dog's name?
00:12:11
Speaker
I've got to be honest. I know for a fact it's written down in my notes, so but i'm not going to look. Because we are all about integrity. Integrity here. ah I'm 80% sure it's pepper.
00:12:24
Speaker
It is. You should be 99.9%. 99.9%. All right. Good, Pepper. Okay. For you, question three.
00:12:35
Speaker
On the men's room door, the man has two distinct objects. What are top hat and an umbrella. like we We are just crushing it today. Yeah, we are. Yeah, you are.
00:12:47
Speaker
Is this the only time we see the the the bathrooms in Central Park, you think? think so. I think so. Because so far in the series, the only other bathrooms that we've seen is where Ross's mom kissed Chandler.
00:13:03
Speaker
Because they saw those. Yes, that's right. yeah I didn't look it up, it was the other. I can't think of another time. All right, you are winning 3-2. We've got them all right so far.
00:13:14
Speaker
I'm not winning. We're tied. Are we tied? Yeah, I'm about to ask you the third. Oh, it's because I haven't asked you your question. Yes, yes, yes. How long did the lecturer talk about strappy back dresses?
00:13:29
Speaker
I believe that's 45 minutes. Yeah, it is. Dang, we are on fire. We have got this because I have a suspicion you have feelings about that storyline.
00:13:44
Speaker
I, of course, have feelings. Anytime that Ross is acting like an idiot, I have feelings. So I paid particular attention because I have some feelings too. But I, oh, yeah, I'm going to, I just won't.
00:13:58
Speaker
I love Rachel. Yes. Let's hold on to it. Let's hold on to those thoughts. Yeah. i've got ah yeah Be good. um What object, according to Monica, is a delicacy in India?
00:14:11
Speaker
Oh, it's a beeper. It is. Yes. All right. we Between us, we are seven for seven. Yeah, we are. Yes. Okay.
00:14:23
Speaker
This one is a little tricky.
00:14:27
Speaker
Who was the professor that Rachel and Ross listened to about dinosaurs? And what does Rachel call him?
00:14:37
Speaker
It's Professor Pitain, not Pitstains. Yes! Yes! I didn't think that one through. All This is for a perfect score.
00:14:50
Speaker
Oh my gosh. And ah there's going to little leeway on this, I think. But... Can you complete this jingle? Home is never far away.
00:15:01
Speaker
Home is... Home star stew... That's saying word for word what I have. Yes! You are five for five. Nice! All right. Yes. What color was the pot that Phoebe put the beeper in?
00:15:20
Speaker
Oh, the irony of it being a question about color... oh And the question that you just asked me. yeah yeah I feel like this cannot be right, but I'm going to have to go with it and congratulate you on a win. Come on. No.
00:15:42
Speaker
yes
00:15:45
Speaker
I was like, it can't possibly be white, but that's all I can picture. Okay. Now, I do know that you have two more questions, correct? I do. I do. We always make a couple extra in case we have to say. in case. Let's go ahead and do them. Just for fun. But this week's a tie.
00:16:00
Speaker
It's done. But I just want us to, like, be perfect. All right. Yeah. And whatever happens here, we got 10 out of 10. Do you chance? Yes. Yes. So. Alright, so my question for you is, what is the name of... Now, it's possible you could have one of these in your extras. Okay, are you about to ask me what her ex-partner's name is?
00:16:22
Speaker
No. Oh, okay. Go ahead. I'm going to ask you what the name of Phoebe's sad song is.
00:16:31
Speaker
The sad song? I'll give you a little context. Is it at the end? She's sitting with um her ex-partner on the couch and... And she turns her guitar upside down.
00:16:43
Speaker
She'd written a sad song. What was that song called where she turns her guitar upside down?
00:16:51
Speaker
Oh, man. Yeah, I can see because they're sitting there on the couch. And they had just talked about Smelly Cat. And she told her she could be have the jingle. and And she was like, I'm not going to sell my jingle.
00:17:04
Speaker
And then she said, and
00:17:09
Speaker
Is it something about left? Like a left something? Oh, man. Dang. This isn't fun anymore. Never mind. This is a silly idea. Silly idea.
00:17:24
Speaker
No, I don't know. What is it? It is Magician Box Mix-Up. Oh, no. Was it Mix-Up? Magician Box. Yeah, Mix-Up. You're right. I so. I think so. Yeah.
00:17:36
Speaker
Yeah. Dang. Okay. What is Phoebe's ex-partner's name? So it's Leslie. Yeah. And it occurred

Ouija Boards and Cultural Impact

00:17:45
Speaker
to me at the very end that she names one of the triplets. One of the triplets is named Leslie.
00:17:50
Speaker
Yeah. I'm sure it's a coincidence. And that was the name that everybody had a hard time with with the triplets at trivia night. Yes. Yeah. A lot of people got, yeah, Frank Jr. Jr. and Chandler straight away that struggled with Leslie.
00:18:05
Speaker
Yeah. But there you go. And i bet that's why.
00:18:11
Speaker
Yeah. That's i mean it just as we were As I was finishing making notes, was like, that's the same name. which It's always nice when the name comes up again. Yeah. um My last of the seven for you is how long ago did Joey and Ginger date?
00:18:30
Speaker
Wow. I'm so glad that these two questions didn't make it in. When he is telling, was it Monica and Phoebe about what he did, he says at the beginning it was about and then gives a time frame.
00:18:43
Speaker
Two years. Four years. Okay. well yeah I'm so glad that these aren't These don't count. don't count. They don't count. they don't count Okay. How did Leslie know how to find Phoebe?
00:18:59
Speaker
oh Again, this could be in my notes. It's, it's, oh, what was the guy's name with the the big fish? The store with the big fish?
00:19:11
Speaker
Or with the mini fish. Yeah. Chandler wants to find out. Yeah. That's right. Inquiring minds. I remember the person who works there had an unusual name, I've forgotten what it is. Vlad.
00:19:26
Speaker
Vlad. Yes. That's fantastic. Well, yeah, I'm also glad that these were not part of our five questions. Yes. Yes. And I would like you to know that the name of Phoebe's song was in my notes, and I did not look. Oh, look at you. Integrity abound. Integrity. On the Purple Door podcast. Yes. What we're all about.
00:19:49
Speaker
I love it. I love it. Well, let's get stuck into this. We're going to start off in Central Park. We don't know who this person is. This is a lady playing the guitar. every Everyone likes her except for Phoebe.
00:20:02
Speaker
But we don't know that Phoebe knows who she is at this point. Yeah, she's just crabby. Phoebe, very out of sorts. Yeah. um And then we we find out her name is Leslie and she says, I'm going play my next song. And it's, I don't remember the exact title. Phoebe Buffay, what can I say? I really loved when we were singing partners and I shouldn't have left you that way.
00:20:27
Speaker
I knew you would have it. Yes. Now, I got to say, we'll get into, I suppose, mention in this now. um I forget her name, the actress that plays Leslie. She's a really good singer. I assumed that she was like, um oh, her name is something in my head. Carpenter.
00:20:44
Speaker
Carpenter. um Who is it that that came on and sang Smelly Cat with Phoebe also? Oh, uh-huh. I can picture her name. I assumed that this lady was a professional singer doing a you know sort of acting cameo.
00:21:02
Speaker
But no, not at all. She's an actress and a successful actress, but not a singer by any stretch. You know, that happens a lot, though, where you've got talented actresses that are...
00:21:17
Speaker
talented singers too you know that seems to happen a lot um but she's also got just a very distinctive voice yeah that that actress so i suppose if you are an actor or an actress it serves you well to diversify your skills for different roles like this right um yeah so good on she is the voice of um What's his I've never seen the show, but we all know it. it Tommy Pickles who's in Rugrats? Yes.
00:21:48
Speaker
Yes. Yeah. I was reading about that. Oh, shoot. That's the same girl? yep Okay. Weird. Weird.
00:22:00
Speaker
Weird. Because i have had a conversation with her with elementary school kids, about her with elementary school kids this week. Really? Yes, but I don't know why, but it was because she was the voice of, you know, Rugrats, the main baby.
00:22:18
Speaker
and I was like, Tommy Pickles, because of course, you know that kid's name, right? That's not a right and piece of stupid knowledge to have. And, um, and they were like, yeah, and it's the same person.
00:22:31
Speaker
So I was like, yeah, weird. Okay. Anyway, by how that stuff happens. Um, And here it is in my notes. Yeah. Leslie sla said that Vlad at the place with the big fish, which is who comes up with that? You know, like, yeah, it's great. Like, it's it's fun. um Says Vlad at the place with the big fish. Told she plays at Central Park.
00:22:55
Speaker
um I do love Chandler's line about, you know, I'm going to whats you say going to the restroom. Yes. She's Dottie from Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I don't know Pee-wee's Big Adventure. ah Okay, because that's a big deal at my house. Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Dottie and all of that. Oh my gosh. Okay, this is so weird. um Yeah, me and this lady, we might be best friends and we just haven't met each other yet.
00:23:23
Speaker
I like that idea. Because she's also a voice actor. She was on Curious George. And so the start of this conversation start happened at school. And then I came home and then Fred was the one who had all this knowledge about this lady.
00:23:39
Speaker
And she's on this episode. That's so weird. Okay. Sorry. It's quite all right. I loving the excitement and the enthusiasm. Yeah. she's a character. Yeah. and She does it really well. Chandler's line about, you know, I need to find out there's as many fish or one big fish.
00:23:58
Speaker
It's one of those lines that's not that funny, but to me it's very funny. I just, I don't know. I get it. Yeah. I really like Chandler in this bit where he goes to the bathroom and then Ginger comes doesn't know it's Ginger. this Yeah, because he's so mad.
00:24:14
Speaker
Yeah. you followings Did Right. But, you know they kind of flirt a little bit. Gunther's so funny in that little scene too.
00:24:26
Speaker
Yes. Someone's in here. Yeah. It's just his mannerisms. He's so awkward and weird. Yes, I love it.
00:24:37
Speaker
Yeah, but Ginger leaves, and but she recognizes Joey, who tries to hide behind the coat rack, um and and thinks he got away with one there.
00:24:48
Speaker
But clearly she saw him and just decided it just decided it to leave. um We can of go on, know and of course, stop me, if we've got thoughts. We go over to Bloomingdale's.
00:25:02
Speaker
Ross comes to take Rachel out, but she kind of says, I can only have a small, quick bite to eat and then get back to work. um She's just obviously overwhelmed and snowed in. But Marcus quit. He's leaving. He got a new job.
00:25:17
Speaker
Yeah. oh Oh, you quit. Well, and I thought, Ross, you're such a tool. Because he he was, like, really wanting him to say something bad. You know, oh, yeah yeah, you have to quit, you feel overwhelmed. Yeah. You know just burned out, did you, whoever it was? Yeah, exactly. Ross, yeah. Yeah, we're going to jump a little bit on the the the hating Ross bandwagon. The fact he holds Rachel's hand as she goes to give Mark a hug.
00:25:49
Speaker
Yeah. Like, I don't know why that in particular, but that... that bothered me. Like again, there's almost like physical controlling at that point. Oh yeah. You know, like, well, almost it is. And there's like, eh, it's just, just, just Oogie.
00:26:04
Speaker
Um, We do go over to the girls' apartment. um Monica and Phoebe are playing with a Ouija board. Okay, that was also going to be one of my questions. But don't worry, to have ah I have information about a Ouija board.
00:26:20
Speaker
I love Ouija boards. Okay, I know nothing about them other than it's, you know, to summon the dark arts. don't know what it is. I know nothing. The dark arts. Sorry, I thought we were a Harry Potter podcast at this point. Yeah. Okay. So let me tell you, because whenever I was growing up, I was, you know, like, I'm sure you find this shocking, but I was interested in lots of different things. I am shocked. And then my dad, my dad is one of the coolest, most laid back kind of guys in the world. Right. But there was one rule.
00:26:58
Speaker
You don't bring a Ouija board into this house. Right. Right. And he was very animated about it. Well, of course, why, why do we not bring a Ouija board in the house? What is a Ouija board and and all the things. So like I purchased a Ouija board and I was like checking it out and oh it's so spooky and everything else. But then, you know, you, but because the idea, right. Is that you sit with your friends, you all put your finger on there and then you ask it questions and you're summoning a spirit to come and help you, you know, and it answers all the questions like, you know, does Jimmy like me? And, you know, and who is whatever, you know. My mom has a story about whenever she was growing up and they were playing with it and her friend was controlling it and misspelled.
00:27:52
Speaker
She was not a very good speller. Right. And, um you know, but my dad had seen a movie. And so he was like, you just don't mess with these kinds of things.
00:28:03
Speaker
So then I was interested in the science behind it and everything else. And it's your subconscious is what it is. And it's, there's a whole word for that science, but they've been around since 1890. And it,
00:28:15
Speaker
and and My question for you is, were you a teenager when you got this? Is that safe to say? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I was in middle school. Okay, so without dating either us, because we're very similar ages, I'm assuming you didn't purchase this on, like, Amazon. No. Right, so where does where does one purchase such an item in real life? In real life, it was Toys R Us with the games.
00:28:42
Speaker
Really? Yeah. Just at at a, like at a, I i bought mine at Toys R Us. and it's It seems a little dark for Toys R Us.
00:28:52
Speaker
But it's it's it's packaged as a game. As a game. And the reason that it, got such a negative rap and everything because it was, you know, ah it was in the 1890s was whenever it was invented, like the idea of it. And it was ah a considered a parlor game. And so I keep doing this, right? um But it was considered a parlor game. yes But in the 70s, they took that game, they used it in Exorcist.
00:29:28
Speaker
I believe it was the right. The Exorcist. And that's whenever it took on the dark meaning and all of that. Interesting. Because then it was because I don't know that before the 70s, before that movie, it was it wasn't.
00:29:47
Speaker
looked at as something to channel spirits and things like that. Right. It didn't have that dark head. It was a game, you know, and look at this and the science its as it, I, uh, I don't, IDEO motor.
00:30:02
Speaker
It uses those, the, those motor skills so that it's using your brain and then it's an unconscious movement with your hands. So if you're consciously moving it, that's one thing, but,
00:30:17
Speaker
The idea behind it is that you ask these questions and then your subconscious is the one that's answering. I had no idea. I literally knew nothing about them other than that's associated with, you know, and not witchcraft, you know, that kind of stuff. Yeah, because it's it's, you know, channeling, supposedly channeling spirits in the occult and all of those things. but that's not what it was originally intended for interesting good to know yeah but there is a whole yeah um but there's a whole whole don't know it's got a very dark little thing you know but yeah but it's it's cool and it used to be so like now like if you buy it it's like a like a board game material and then you have And it's you know what it looks like. And then you have the little driver thing that has the plastic
00:31:19
Speaker
like but ah circle that you can see through, like the little plastic glass. Yes. And then it it goes over either yes or no or goodbye and and then all the letters.
00:31:32
Speaker
But um it originally was made out of wood. All right. So... I don't know. In my head, I'm like, I would love to see one of those old ones. Right. That would be kind of cool.
00:31:45
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah. Interesting. I have no idea. And it's interesting that they are they have, you know, random โ€“ they could have been sitting drinking a cup of coffee and the scene would have still made sense. But instead, they're packing up a Ouija board.
00:31:58
Speaker
Yeah. Which is so funny. Yeah. It's just โ€“ what Why not? um Ginger keeps changing. But wait. But wait. So what's interesting about that is that Phoebe probably knows like the subconscious to that, right? Right. But then she's also the one that plays the games like, um you know, red or blue and the questions so that you subconsciously answer what you want. And so that's interesting to think about too because that just popped in my brain.
00:32:30
Speaker
So โ€“ I That's right. Yeah. So it could be that they were having a conversation. It was like, I wonder what you really think or whatever. And then you get out the weed board and there you go.
00:32:42
Speaker
It helps you figure out what your subconscious wants. yeah i Yeah. Hey, it's a thing. It is. well the the The game gets, I don't think it's interrupted because they're packing up, but Leslie keeps paging um keeps paging phoebe how did she get her number who knows maybe vlad gave it to her probably um but she's she's keeps paging so she puts the the beeper in the pot and puts it in the oven um i think i can't remember how many times she said that she's paid but it's been relentless all day um
00:33:19
Speaker
I think Joey comes out. think he's in the bathroom, right? he comes out. And that's when he finds out. No, I thought he just came in through the door. Did he just come in through the door? thought so. Yes, yes, yes. Yeah, i think you're right. I'm thinking of another scene.
00:33:33
Speaker
Yeah. He finds out that Chandler is dating Ginger. Yeah. Are you sure it's not like Ginger? Ginger. That's right. Because one of Joey's most embarrassing secrets is about to come out. It was more than that. He said it was the most awful, horrible thing he's ever done in his whole life.
00:33:54
Speaker
So, yeah. and it Well, here's the deal. There's a line that was cut because that's what he said. Right. And then Phoebe goes, oh, yeah, you're really making us totally not want to hear it.
00:34:08
Speaker
But that got cut out of yours. It did get cut out. One of those random lines that gets cut. I'm now going to watch for this. I think if there's any more examples. Because I can picture Joey just running out the door.
00:34:22
Speaker
Just like he did in the audition. um Where we reviewed. You know where he's about to dance. Do you feel like you have seen. Like this scene. ah him.
00:34:33
Speaker
Yeah. I can picture this in my head. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. i was waiting for the cut to be able to see it happen because i thought I had seen it.
00:34:50
Speaker
I wonder if we've just both pictured it in our heads or if it did ever exist. I don't know. That's crazy. I figured, yeah that's weird. But he throws the the wooden leg. Now, I am not up to date on prosthetic limbs.
00:35:06
Speaker
must confess, but would it really be wooden? No. Right. so so ah So you wouldn't be throwing a ah ah metal plastic composite something leg in the fire.
00:35:23
Speaker
Yeah. Like, she's not she's not a pirate.
00:35:27
Speaker
You know? It's like... it No, I mean, when did they last make wooden fake legs? Yeah, have no idea. Yeah, just a thought. I haven't looked it up, but I thought it was odd because it'd be heavy too.
00:35:43
Speaker
um It would. and But ah man, see, okay, in my head, like,
00:35:52
Speaker
Logs, like if you're just picking it up with one hand and throwing it in, like it's going to be, it's you know, the weight of it might be the same. Because the leg's not going to be super heavy. Because otherwise, how it's you know, i don't know. Yeah, don't know. I don't know either. But they cut out part of it.
00:36:15
Speaker
They cut out part of the scene here, too. Really? What did they cut out? Okay. So, you know, they both think ah you threw Pepper on the fire, right? And he's like, I wish. Right. Okay. And then she says, I probably should have told you that Ginger, she has kind of an artificial leg.
00:36:33
Speaker
And Monica's like, oh my God. And then Phoebe goes, you threw it on the fire? and then Monica's like, well, she must have freaked out. and then Joey goes, yeah, she must have.
00:36:47
Speaker
And then they're like, you don't know how she, ah you know, you don't know? Joey was like, well. And then Monica says, what did you do after you threw the leg on the fire? yeah Because it kind of opened that door, right? Right.
00:37:03
Speaker
And then he ran through the woods with no socks on.
00:37:09
Speaker
Wow. and Right? How did he get home? Yeah, he knows? Yeah, but that was one of my questions that i um I had put on there and then I was like, oh, that was cut.
00:37:25
Speaker
it It was how did Joey leave after he threw the leg on the fire? Right. so I wouldn't have known. He ran through the woods with no socks on. But you don't know that. I did not know that. um Interesting.
00:37:40
Speaker
Interesting. And I wonder if Ginger just never called him afterwards. yeah I mean, she threw her leg on the fire and then ran away. Like, that sucks.
00:37:52
Speaker
but Now, here's here's a thought for you, and I'm going too far, too deep down this rabbit hole. Do you think she ever knew because if that wooden leg burned up and she woke up the next morning and there's just a pile of ashes in the fireplace and her leg is gone and Joey is gone,
00:38:12
Speaker
Well, okay. Or do you think it was plastic and it just melted? it ma And that would, that smelled pretty bad. And then she would know that he did that. She woke up, he's gone. i don't understand how Pepper didn't bark whenever he ran away because he said he aided that dog. um But...
00:38:34
Speaker
Yeah. he He just ran away. that's terrible. has a, I wouldn't say a habit, but he has previous. Like, this is Joey just running away difficult situations.
00:38:48
Speaker
And the fact that he ran through the woods without any socks on makes it not such a dramatic statement whenever he said, it's the worst thing I've ever done in my life.
00:38:59
Speaker
Right. you know Because i watched your face whenever I said, actually, he says, and you were like, really, is that the worst thing? But then like not only did he run, like he literally ran away before any of it could happen. you know Poor old Joey. I know. That's quite sad.
00:39:24
Speaker
um Chandler and Ginger, we go to their first season together. I like them together. Yeah, yeah. I think that there's some some chemistry there.
00:39:36
Speaker
oh yeah. you I feel like like one of the reasons that Chandler likes Janice when he does like her is that she when when she was anonymous on the computer, that she calls him out.
00:39:48
Speaker
like She's obviously a strong woman, and I think Ginger is the same, which is a good match for Chandler. She would call him out on his nonsense if there was any. Yes. um I was going to ask you what hotel they were standing outside of, but it was only, it was very small. like, it was it would be unfair because I was looking for it. It was the GG Hotel. Wow. Which doesn't seem to exist. i did look it up. um But yes, you stick your foot in a puddle. And Chandler's like, hey, you've got to get out the shoe or something. You'll freeze. And
00:40:23
Speaker
do you have a bionic foot? She hopes for one day. yes which Which confuses Chandler immensely. Yeah, but sure is a funny statement.
00:40:34
Speaker
Yeah. But I just, I liked the energy, the chemistry between the two of them. I thought that it could have gone some way. Yeah. um we We head on over in Rachel's bedroom and this is the...
00:40:49
Speaker
the continuation of the demise of Ross where he's he's like, how can I bring up the fact i don't like she's going to see Mark? So he just starts laughing, thinking about something funny. He's Now, before we get into them, when was the last time, if ever, you went to a lecture for fun?
00:41:09
Speaker
ah Actually, sir, I went to a lecture for fun on Saturday. and I did not think about that. And it was all about resilience. And it was actually fabulous.
00:41:23
Speaker
good goodie I didn't think this through. yeah this Hopefully the first speaker was decent. oh The first speaker was easily the best.
00:41:36
Speaker
um Okay. So prior to that, prior to that, prior to that, um I have been to lectures like ah by my favorite that I've ever been to.
00:41:50
Speaker
i don't know if it's the last one I've been to, but I went to one by Steve Vanderart. who is like, he's written books about the Harry Potter series. And I've actually seen his lecture twice, but it was fabulous. Like he talks about this. He went on a trip to try to find the different places before it was a thing.
00:42:14
Speaker
um Like, you know, now there's like a tour you can go on. Right. right But um before that tour was a thing, he went on this trip, and so he's got all the pictures, and he even found, like, an area that where it says keep out, and he and it's how he ended his lecture, sure and he puts it up, and he's like, and I'm 100% certain Hagrid made this sign, and it it looks like, you know, Hagrid would have made it, but anyway, that lecture, he is fabulous. um That's fantastic. Yeah, I've been to, yeah, ah but...
00:42:50
Speaker
Yeah. like And I'm trying to think of any of the lectures that I've ever been to that are not PD. Like i didn't I was not required to be there for work. And ah all of them are tied to books in some way. Right.
00:43:08
Speaker
Like, oh, yeah, that sounds like something interesting I'd like to go listen to, with the exception of the resilience thing that I went to last weekend Very nice. Yeah. yeah it was it's I know I must have gone. I know I have done, but I just can't think of the last one I went to. But my mother-in-law came to the TED Talks on Saturday, and I think it kind of opened up a little bit of a world for her.
00:43:33
Speaker
She is retired and was like, man, these listening to people talk about things they're passionate about is kind of fun. It is. so So she asked me to kind of keep her you know aware of any other interesting things going on at the university.
00:43:46
Speaker
yeah So, yeah, it's a fun thing. But Ross doesn't think this is, a you know, he he where he suddenly says that he wants to go. You know, he he buys clothes. He's a ah consumer. i think maybe he calls himself.
00:44:00
Speaker
can Let's go back to that conversation for just minute. Because he's such a jerk. right Because he's like, and she's like, oh, is your book funny? Right. And then he's like, oh, no. um You know, and then he starts talking about seeing Mark on Saturday and that's funny.
00:44:21
Speaker
And then um she she makes that sarcastic comment. Well, if I stop playing with Chandler and Joey, can I play with Mark? And he's like, is that supposed to be funny?
00:44:34
Speaker
like, you're the one who started this whole thing acting like something was funny. So you asked for that. Right. He's just, he sucks, man. Yeah, this this is not not his ah shining moment, this episode.
00:44:51
Speaker
But Ross ends up saying he's going to go because, you know, he's, he bu yeah, he buys clothes, whatever it is. And Rachel, again, I think is being more than gracious because she could say, you dont know, no, this is a work thing and, you know, I want to focus. But no, she is embracing Ross going and, you know, more than welcoming, which I wouldn't have faulted her if she wasn't, um I think. some good So good for good arm Rachel.
00:45:21
Speaker
Um, Phoebe and Monica are still in the kitchen and I think Phoebe's kind of coming around. i think her feeling, you know, she's worked through her feelings and I think at this point she's going to give Leslie a call.
00:45:35
Speaker
Um,
00:45:38
Speaker
Is that right? Yes, yes. But my favorite was whenever she's talking to Monica and she says that it's the most fun I've ever had in all my lives.
00:45:49
Speaker
All my lives, yes. instead of all my life, it lives. And that's such a Phoebe line, right? Yeah, very subtly dropped in there. Yes. um I quite like this. So Leslie's playing again at Central Park.
00:46:04
Speaker
And Phoebe kind of bursts in the door. it's almost like a musical to join her for the for the the chorus of Sticky Shoes. Yes. Yeah. like I love the way she kind of bursts through the door. and ah they you know they They've worked through whatever they need to work through and are coming back together.
00:46:24
Speaker
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
00:46:27
Speaker
We then, we pop over to this fashion lecture. um I just wrote in my notes that Ross is being a weenie and I couldn't figure out how to spell weenie, but I knew that's the word you would use to describe him. So I wrote it down. Nice, good. and That's perfect. It felt like a Woolison word. W-E-E-N-I-E.
00:46:45
Speaker
w e e n i e I was completely wrong, but there you go. Well, there you go. But, yeah, he's just, again, he's acting like a petulant child at this point.
00:46:58
Speaker
Yeah. you Yeah. Fell asleep, all sorts. um And we can we wonder he's fallen asleep later on, I think. But, yeah, he's just distracting Rachel. And, again, this this is only for 45 minutes as we find out.
00:47:15
Speaker
I don't believe that that was only 45 minutes. Okay, so I wasn't sure if the whole thing was 45 minutes or just the one section was 45 minutes. How did you interpret it? I interpreted it that 45 minutes of the whole lecture was focused on strapping back dresses. Okay, okay. I wasn't sure. But I could be wrong because what he was talking about whenever we heard...
00:47:42
Speaker
was um he was talking about layering i like sheer fabrics and stuff like that so it could have been i just figured that it was more it wasn't only about strappy back dresses it would make sense if it was but the strappy back dresses were part of a wider um a wider lecture you know maybe went for a few hours yeah um we We pop over to Central Punk. Phoebe's now teaching Leslie Smelly Cat, but she's still in that jingle brain saying that Phoebe could sell it to ah like a cat litter commercial, a cat litter company.
00:48:23
Speaker
Um, Phoebe has no interest in that. And this is where she, she then plays the magician box or say she's going to play magician box. Yeah. magic Magician box mix up. It's right there in my notes. Smelly cat and magician box mix up.
00:48:38
Speaker
Yeah. Again, the integrity and of the podcast. We, we keep trying to keep it as high as we can. Um, we pop over back, I think to the fashion lecture for just a minute. Ross is now asleep.
00:48:50
Speaker
Um, He couldn't stay awake for Rachel there. um I quite like this next scene. We're in the boys' apartment, I think, for the first time in this episode.
00:49:02
Speaker
Monica comes over to borrow milk, and I know they're not flirting. Like, I know that. But I love the... ah There's just that chemistry between Monica and Chandler. I think, you know, knowing what happens, I just think these little moments are nice, which is like, my milk's gone bad.
00:49:20
Speaker
And what does Chandler say his did? or his Yeah, she said her milk's gone bad. and he Oh yeah, that happened to me once. My half and half stole my car. That's it. You know, it's just, i just there's there's a loveliness about the two of them together. I think i think you can see it already.
00:49:39
Speaker
Yes, yes. Chandler enjoyed his date with Ginger, but he's he's kind of freaking out. Yeah, he is. Again, it's one of these episodes that is, would they make the episode today? Maybe not, but I think it's very much of the time, and it's good to see him having this internal struggle.
00:49:58
Speaker
Mm-hmm. You know, he's like, I shouldn't feel this way. It shouldn't freak me out, but it does a bit. Joey comes out and this is where he asks if by any chance does she find it funny, you know, that he has destroyed her leg in a fire.
00:50:13
Speaker
yes Yeah. Yeah. Safe to say she probably didn't. i would say Yes. um But this is where we we end up going back. ros Rachel and Ross come into the girls' apartment. Rachel,
00:50:29
Speaker
rightly upset that he's fell asleep. um I'm just going to get run through this scene and then you tell me your feelings because I want to hear.
00:50:39
Speaker
um He fell asleep. He was snoring. Rachel went to a four hour lecture by Professor Pitain or Pitstains all about this tiny bones that showed that this dinosaur had wings, but didn't fly.
00:50:53
Speaker
I think Ross is a a complete jerk about her industry. Like just not even her which is worse, but just diminishing what she does for a career.
00:51:05
Speaker
And then, The only thing that, or the only thing, the thing that Rachel says that stuck out to me was Ross says that he hates that she isn't a part of her life or there's a part of her life he isn't involved in.
00:51:17
Speaker
I couldn't tell. She kind of says, well, it's okay. Is it okay if you're not a part of it? She asks him if it's okay. And I couldn't tell if that was sarcastic or not. And I kind of hope it is because she shouldn't have to ask him that.
00:51:32
Speaker
What are your thoughts on this scene? Yeah. Yeah. um I think it just really highlights like a giant crack, right? In their relationship and their their things. And it highlights his insecurities. um But I was so proud of Rachel.
00:51:54
Speaker
Yes. Because, right. you She went to the dinosaur stuff and the expectation is that she's awake.
00:52:06
Speaker
And not necessarily that she, and you know the expectation that she was at, she's there whenever he got his award and you know all of these different things. But, and he, i don't know. He's so, so self-centered and such a jerk that it's fine if that's what he thinks, right? Right.
00:52:35
Speaker
Right. If that's what you think is that, man, your chosen career is just not for me. if it's a career and there were that many people there, it's obviously a thing to a lot of people. It's a legit industry. Right. And it it shouldn't matter.
00:52:57
Speaker
it shouldn't matter what you personally think. about that industry that, you know, it shouldn't matter. And he's so ah he's just so gross and controlling and insecure. And like all of this comes because he sucks.
00:53:18
Speaker
He's insecure. He shouldn't even be in a relationship because, that's you know, Ross needs to just be in therapy. That's what Ross needs to be doing. But that's, don't worry. That's not what he's going to do. That's not what he's going to be doing. He's going to be trying to control the, trying to control Rachel.
00:53:39
Speaker
Like that's what it's all about. and Like diminishing like in the the fashion thing and that's so whatever. i just.
00:53:53
Speaker
Not very well thought out, eloquent speech, but Ross is bleh and a big old weenie. Yes. I'm just thinking you're absolutely right. So Rachel went to this Professor Patane, the one where nobody's ready. She's going because Ross is, you know, at the front table.
00:54:12
Speaker
She goes to Barbados, you know much later on. And it's dinosaurs, which you could... learn I'm not saying that, it means you know, being a not an anthropologist.
00:54:27
Speaker
What is his job title? Paleontologist. Paleontologist. I'm not saying that's not important. But more people have an interest, I would argue, in fashion than paleontology. I know a lot of kids that really, really like dinosaurs.
00:54:41
Speaker
A lot kids love their dinosaurs, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. Yeah. Yeah. But both ways. Both ways. Yeah, both exactly. Both ways. both Both industries are very successful. Like, he said that. I don't know. And then he's like Jurassic Park and he makes fun of that. But I'm like, dude, the devil wears Prada. Like, there's a lot of fashion movies. You're a jerk.
00:55:06
Speaker
he just He just is. Yeah, this is not good Ross. No. We don't don't like this at all. And it's because he didn't want Mark there. It's all to do with Mark. And he can't just, let's talk about this and keep it in the the lane it needs to be in. He just scatter bombs everything, her career, anything.
00:55:31
Speaker
It's fair game, which which I don't like. um Ginger and Chandler are eating Chinese on a table that I don't think I've ever seen before. Right. It's like fold-out table. Uh-huh. And the evening kind of moves to the recliner, and then Ginger gets freaked out by Chandler's nubbin. Yeah, she does. Yeah.
00:55:54
Speaker
Yeah. doesn since She has to go. She's got something to do. And yeah, that kind of lurching that she does, um, when she shuts the doors. Very funny. Yes. Um, hilarious.
00:56:07
Speaker
Leslie has played smelly cat for her old agency. And I think it's, yeah, Phoebe's kind of kissing and releasing smelly cat. She's giving it as a gift, um, to Leslie. Right. So she can take it and sell it to the ad agency.
00:56:23
Speaker
Um, I don't know. It's like it's Phoebe's song. So why did she give it up to Leslie? But Phoebe, I'm assuming, didn't make a penny off of the the commercial that we see later on.
00:56:39
Speaker
Why do you think that? Because she didn't want to sell it. So i'm assuming she didn't have anything to do with the the deal. because Leslie sells it to the Kitty Litter Company. Oh, I thought you said Leslie didn't see a penny. and i was like Oh, sorry, maybe I didn't. No, I don't know if she did or not, to be honest.
00:57:00
Speaker
But she goes off with that. And Phoebe says it's okay, but it's clearly sad now. How have they managed to get this song on a commercial in a matter of a couple of days? you know, the magic of television.
00:57:12
Speaker
There you go. um But Phoebe's, she's got new song, brand new song. Yes, she does. And i love lifely I love how Monica and Joey like come and sit like they're ready to, you know.
00:57:26
Speaker
Yes. And then I am going to need to lean on your help here because for some reason on the stream, the final scene, Chandler comes in And he starts to say, I think something about having a nubbinectomy.
00:57:44
Speaker
And then it cuts off. see It cuts off in the middle. And it just starts the next episode. Oh, my God. It's so funny. It's funny. Okay. So he comes in. And he they're like, you know, where have you been? and he says, I've been at the doctor. And Ross is, oh, is everything okay? And he says, and I've had ah just a little nubbinectomy. Right. And just two nipples. No waiting.
00:58:09
Speaker
And then um Monica goes, wow, it's like Rachel in high school. Yikes. And then Rachel gets all mad and goes, what? And she goes, come on, come on. I was kidding. It's an obvious joke.
00:58:26
Speaker
Then Chandler goes, you're right. That was an obvious joke. Why didn't I think of it? And then he goes, oh my God, what have I done? This is the source of all my powers. And then it closes. That's fantastic.
00:58:46
Speaker
I love it. i'm I'm so sad that that cuts off. Oh yeah. No, that's a funny ending too. yeah Well, i'm just looking through my notes here at the end of the episode. We've already talked about everything. i Elizabeth Daly. That's her name. We kept calling her, let you know, the actress that played Leslie. It's Elizabeth Daly. Yes. It's her name.
00:59:08
Speaker
um but i yeah i I like this episode. um Leslie, how could we rate this episode? 10 wooden leg ten nubbin ten no la it legs, legs. Wooden Wooden legs. right.
00:59:25
Speaker
How many wooden legs are you going to give this episode? I'm going to give it eight. It's a good, solid, hilarious episode. I have given it the exact same score.
00:59:38
Speaker
Yeah. um Yeah, I've had a few seven, seven and a half over the last four or five episodes or so. But I like this. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I just think the jokes are very good.
00:59:52
Speaker
Well, and they're solid all the way through the episode. Like, it's hilarious. Yeah. Yeah. And let's think. Yeah, so eight wooden legs apiece.
01:00:04
Speaker
I like that. But who would be your Gunther Central Park? Oh, it's Rachel. i had a funny feeling yeah you would choose Rachel. Yeah. um i I am really enjoying looking at this series now.

And I feel like in this episode, like, it it it's there's a highlight of it and then she's you know and she's funny and and all of the things that i just i'm enjoying because i've i've never i i don't know i've never really liked rachel like i've always been me like she's like one of my least favorite characters But I'm i'm really enjoying paying attention to her growth as a character.

Like yeah other people grow and change as everybody does over 10 years. Ross is basically in the same career. Chandler changes his career, but eh. Joey's in the same job. Phoebe kind of is. There's other changes.

I love the scene with Ginger and Gunther outside the bathroom. I like his energy with Ginger. I think they could have gone somewhere had she not been freaked out by the nubbinectomy.
