In today's reading we will finish the Book of Haggai and begin reading the Book of Zechariah. Today we will read about God fulfilling his promise in Jeremiah 29:10-14- God would bring the people back from exile because he knows the plans that He has in mind for them. Plans for shalom and not calamity- to give them a future and hope. Then they would call on Him and pray to Him and He would listen to them. They would seek Him and find Him when they searched Him with all their hearts and He would be found by them.

In our discussion for daily application we will apply this same lesson to OUR lives, as well. God still knows the plans He has for us. Plans for shalom and not calamity, to give us a future and a hope. We are still to call on Him, come and pray to Him, and God will listen to us. We are seek God and He promises that He will be found when we search for Him with our whole hearts. We will read Matthew 7:7-11, which tells us to "Ask and it shall be given to you. Seek and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives and the one who seeks finds and to the one who knocks it shall be opened. For what man among you, when his son asks him for bread will give him a stone? Or when he asks for a fish will give him a snake? If you, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him?"

00:00:38
Speaker
Lately, we've had a lot of the Bible. yeah
00:00:42
Speaker
So today we will also be looking at some corresponding verses that will go along with our reading today.

God's Support in Rebuilding and Zechariah's Prophecies

00:00:49
Speaker
Today we are going to be reading from the books of Haggai and Zechariah.
00:00:55
Speaker
Very exciting. Today we are going to be seeing Jesus in the prophecy that Zechariah will be bringing us. Zechariah is known for having a lot of messianic prophecy, and today we're going to hear some.
00:01:13
Speaker
We are going to start with Haggai chapter 2. This section is entitled, Shaking the Earth.
00:01:25
Speaker
Then, oh, and yesterday, just so we know where we are, in case you haven't listened in a day or two. Yesterday, ah we read that God changed the people's hearts. Then they wanted to work on God's worship house, and they started building it again.
00:01:39
Speaker
That was in Haggai as well. And it says that they, and and and that Darius, King Darius, made the law for them to continue working on it.
00:01:53
Speaker
All right, so then Haggai spoke, or God spoke to Haggai again. Tell Zerubbabel and the people to be strong. Work.
00:02:05
Speaker
I am with you, just as I promised. My spirit stays with you, so don't be afraid. Someday I will come and shake the sky.
00:02:19
Speaker
I will shake the earth, the sea, and the dry land. I will shake all the nations. This worship house will be greater than the first one.

Visions of Peace and God's Assurance to Jerusalem

00:02:32
Speaker
I will bring peace to this place, says God. That same year, God spoke to Zechariah the prophet. I was very angry with your families from long ago, God said.
00:02:48
Speaker
Come back to me. Then I will come back to you. Don't be like your people from long ago. The prophets told them to turn away from sin, but they didn't listen.
00:03:03
Speaker
Where are they now? The messages I gave the prophets came true for them.
00:03:11
Speaker
Zechariah chapter 1 A man on a red horse Zechariah wrote this about pictures he had in his mind.
00:03:23
Speaker
I saw pictures in the night. I saw man riding a red horse. He was among trees in a little valley. Red, brown, and white horses were behind him.
00:03:39
Speaker
An angel was there talking to me. What are the horses? I asked. I will show you, said the angel. The man by the trees spoke.
00:03:52
Speaker
They are the ones God is sending through the earth. Then the riders of the other horses talked to the angel. We went through the earth, they said.
00:04:03
Speaker
We found rest and peace all over the world.
00:04:08
Speaker
The angel said, God, how long will it be before we have peace too? How long will you keep your kindness away from Jerusalem?
00:04:20
Speaker
You've been angry with Jerusalem for 70 years.
00:04:25
Speaker
So God spoke kind words to the angel. Then the angel spoke to me. Tell people this word. God says that he wants Jerusalem for himself.
00:04:40
Speaker
He was just a little angry with his people. But now he is very angry with the other nations. They made even more trouble.
00:04:52
Speaker
So God says he will go back to Jerusalem. His worship house will be built again. His towns will also grow and have good times again.
00:05:06
Speaker
He will choose Jerusalem. He will cheer up his city.
00:05:12
Speaker
Then I saw four horns in front of me. And I asked the angel, what are these?
00:05:20
Speaker
These are the nations that sent my people away, he said.
00:05:26
Speaker
These, then God showed me four workers. What are they doing? I asked. They are going to scare the horns, he said.
00:05:38
Speaker
They will destroy the nations that came to fight Judah.
00:05:45
Speaker
Zechariah chapter two, a wall of fire.
00:05:50
Speaker
Then I saw a man holding a ruler.

Joshua as High Priest: Symbolism and Parallels to Jesus

00:05:54
Speaker
Where are you going? I asked. I am going to measure the city of Jerusalem, he said.
00:06:02
Speaker
I'm going to see how wide and long it is. Then the angel left. He was the one who had talked to me. And then another angel came to meet him.
00:06:14
Speaker
Run, said the other angel. Say that the city of Jerusalem won't have walls. That's because there will be many people and animals in it. I will be like a wall of fire for Jerusalem, says God.
00:06:32
Speaker
I will be its greatness. Come on. Come on, run away from the north, says God. I have sent you to the four winds.
00:06:44
Speaker
Come on, Jerusalem, get away, my people who live in Babylon. Anyone who touches you touches the ones I love. I will put out my hand against them.
00:06:58
Speaker
Shout, be happy. I am coming. I will live with you, says God. Many nations will come and be with me. Then they will be my people.
00:07:16
Speaker
Judah will be my place. I will still choose Jerusalem, so everybody be still in front of me. I am coming out of the place where I live.
00:07:28
Speaker
Zechariah 3 New Clean Clothes
00:07:35
Speaker
Then God showed me Joshua, the high priest. He was standing in front of God's angel. But Satan was standing there too. And Satan was there to blame Joshua.
00:07:50
Speaker
God told Satan, I say you are wrong. I chose Jerusalem. This man has been saved from the fire.
00:08:02
Speaker
Now Joshua was wearing dirty clothes. And the angel said, take off the dirty clothes. Then he told Joshua, I have taken your sin away.
00:08:15
Speaker
I'll put new clean clothes on them, on you. I said, put a clean hat on his head. So they did. Then God's angel stood beside him.
00:08:31
Speaker
God's angel told Joshua these words from God. Obey me. Keep my laws. Then you will rule over my worship house.
00:08:43
Speaker
Listen, Joshua. Listen, you helpers of Joshua. I am going to bring my servant. See, I put a rock in front of Joshua.
00:08:55
Speaker
I will write something on it, says God. I will take the sin of the land away in one day. Then each person will ask his neighbor to come over.
00:09:09
Speaker
They will sit under the vine and the fig tree, says God.
00:09:17
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:09:24
Speaker
The angel that was speaking with Zechariah was Jesus. That is God's angel. Whenever we see in the Bible, God's angel, that is Jesus.
00:09:35
Speaker
So Jesus was telling Zechariah that he would take the sins away. Then God told him that God would send his servant to That is Jesus.
00:09:49
Speaker
I'm going to read us some of the Big Bible version too, so that we can see Jesus more clearly in these verses. So we have complete understanding. You know understanding God's word is very important.
00:10:04
Speaker
So we are looking at Zechariah chapter 3. And and ah he was He was giving this message also to Joshua. Joshua was the high priest.
00:10:15
Speaker
So what's interesting is that Joshua is the Greek for Jesus, or Jesus is Greek for Joshua. And so Joshua was a Messiah prototype.
00:10:29
Speaker
He was very similar to Jesus. And God told him that he would have a place among them. He was rebuilding the temple with them.
00:10:41
Speaker
And Jesus would be the temple at the next rebuilding. So there are a lot of parallels with Joshua and with Jesus.
00:10:52
Speaker
It's very interesting. When I was looking up the verse, but I just ah was curious about Joshua. And this was what I read. it says...
00:11:13
Speaker
Joshua served as the spiritual leader and high priest who supported the effort of rebuilding the temple. As the first high priest in the rebuilt Jerusalem, Joshua played a significant historical role and was a precursor to Ezra, who came to Jerusalem during the second wave of returning exiles.
00:11:35
Speaker
God told the prophet Zechariah in chapter six, which we have not yet gotten to yet. um Let's see, we will, I'll skip that part. Joshua was the high priest and the prophet was to symbolically crown him king.
00:11:51
Speaker
So Zechariah would, well we will read, crown him as king. And the coronation was to serve as an encouragement to Joshua in his work of rebuilding the temple.
00:12:03
Speaker
And it was also a visual prophecy of the future Messiah who would be both high priest and king. And significantly, the name Joshua is the Hebrew equivalent of the Greek name Jesus.
00:12:17
Speaker
So the priest King Joshua was a foreshadowing of the coming Messiah and the similarity extended even to his name.

God's Plans for Peace and Faithfulness

00:12:27
Speaker
Isn't that interesting?
00:12:29
Speaker
Boy, that is, that I just thought that was amazing. I had to share that with you. So in Zechariah chapter three, He is talking to Joshua. He's giving a message for Joshua.
00:12:41
Speaker
And he says, thus says the lord god oppos if you will walk in my ways and keep my charge which is my my laws then you will judge my house and watch over my courts and i will give you a place to walk among these standing here Listen well, Joshua, high priest, both you and your companions seated before you, because they are men who are assigned.
00:13:09
Speaker
This is what we just read about in that ah commentary. Behold, I will bring forth my servant, the branch. Jesus is that servant and the branch.
00:13:22
Speaker
For behold, the stone I have laid before Joshua is the want is one stone with seven facets, seven sides. On it I will engrave an inscription, declares the Lord God of hosts, that I will remove the iniquity of this land in one day.
00:13:42
Speaker
That's sin. In that day, declares the Lord God of hosts, every man will invite his neighbor to sit under the vine and under the fig tree.
00:13:55
Speaker
So our version was pretty complete, but I just wanted to be sure that I i read the exact ah detail because it it's so wonderful to see God's detail as he is encouraging and giving us knowledge about what he is going to do.
00:14:13
Speaker
So our daily application is that what God is doing here is he is fulfilling Jeremiah 29 verse 11. And we're going to go there and read that as well.
00:14:33
Speaker
We're going to start in verse 10. For thus says the Lord in Jeremiah 29, after 70 years for Babylon are complete, I will visit you and fulfill my good word toward you to bring you back to this place.
00:14:52
Speaker
For I know the plans that I have in mind for you, declares the Lord, plans for shalom and not calamity to give you a future and a hope.
00:15:04
Speaker
Then you will call on me and come and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you will search for me with all your heart.
00:15:17
Speaker
Then I will be found by you, says the Lord. And I will return you from exile and gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord.
00:15:29
Speaker
And I will bring you back to the place from which I removed you as captives into exile.
00:15:37
Speaker
So did you hear God doing that today?
00:15:41
Speaker
to Zechariah, he declared that he was to give this message. He declared,
00:15:50
Speaker
that he was, that God, God declared that he would be coming. He says, I will be like a wall of fire for Jerusalem. I will be its greatness. Come on, come on, run away from the north, says God.
00:16:04
Speaker
I have sent you to the four winds. Remember Babylon was referred to as the north, the kingdom to the north. So God is telling them to come, come back from the kingdom to the north.
00:16:16
Speaker
Come on, Jerusalem, get away my people who live in Babylon. Anyone who touches you touches the one I love. I will put out my hand against them.
00:16:27
Speaker
Meaning that if anyone tried to stop them from leaving and coming to Jerusalem, God would stop them. Shout, be happy.
00:16:38
Speaker
i am coming. will live with you, says God. Many nations will come and be with me then. They will be my people. Judah will be my place.
00:16:49
Speaker
I will choose Jerusalem.
00:16:54
Speaker
So our daily application is that God knew and still does know the plans that he has for us.

Connection Between Prophecies and Jesus' Teachings

00:17:02
Speaker
Plans for peace and not calamity, not for trouble, to give us a future and a hope.
00:17:14
Speaker
Then we will call on him and come and pray to him. And you will seek me and you will find me when you search for me with all your heart. So we know that Jesus stands at the door. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
00:17:28
Speaker
And God says we also need to search for him with all of our hearts to seek after God. We're also going to look at Matthew chapter 27.
00:17:41
Speaker
where we read Jesus telling us knock, that he will knock and to seek.
00:17:52
Speaker
Jesus, or Matthew chapter 27. Oh, think that's what it was.
00:18:04
Speaker
Not 27, chapter seven. And it starts in verse seven. So Matthew seven, verse seven. Jesus tells the disciples, ask, and it shall be given to you.
00:18:17
Speaker
Seek, and you shall find. Knock, and it shall be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds. And to the one who knocks, it shall be opened.
00:18:31
Speaker
For what man among you, when his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or when he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
00:18:56
Speaker
I love how everything comes full circle, don't you? We see Jeremiah giving the message from God. We see him fulfilling it and then speaking with Zechariah and in and in doing what he said he would do.
00:19:11
Speaker
And then we see Jesus reminding us that we all we need to do is seek and ask and God will give us. And God tells us that we are to seek him with all of our heart.
00:19:23
Speaker
So our big daily application today is that God knows the plans he has for us. Plans to give us peace and a hope, and he wants us to seek him.
00:19:36
Speaker
And when we seek him, we will find him, but we need to seek him with all of our hearts. So be sure as our daily application today that we are seeking him with all of our hearts. that we are asking him.
00:19:50
Speaker
Jesus tells us that if we ask him, he will give us. He knows how to give good gifts to his children, even more so than we know how to give gifts to our children. Because God is so wonderful.
00:20:04
Speaker
And he he just he the gifts he gives are so beautiful. Gifts of wisdom, gifts of understanding. He is so abundant in his gift giving.
00:20:16
Speaker
and the knowledge just to of him, there's just no end to what we can know about him and to seek about him. And there's just so much love that he has for us.
00:20:29
Speaker
So that's our daily application today. In full knowledge, let us know that God knows the plans. And just in the same way that he fulfilled his good word and his plans with the people and returning from exile and rebuilding the temple, God is always with us.
00:20:46
Speaker
God reminds us also again today that he is with us. He has sent Jesus and we are one in spirit with him because we know Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to come.
00:20:59
Speaker
So it is just so beautiful how we are so connected to God. He wants everybody to come to him. He doesn't want anyone to to be away from him. He says all nations will come to him and they will be his people.

Final Encouragement and Closing Wishes

00:21:15
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that this lights your light today and that you're just bubbled over with joy. Doesn't it just make you feel all warm and fuzzy and good inside? and know it does for me. So I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day as you meditate on these thoughts of the plans that God has for you Ask him the plans he has for you What good and hope and peace he has in mind for you but he wants you to ask him for.
00:21:44
Speaker
then seek him for those things with all your heart. And i hope you enjoy doing so. I know I enjoyed doing that with God. So I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
00:21:57
Speaker
Thank you for joining me as we read through the Bible today.
