Welcome to the Blindsided podcast, a  source of support for those going through pregnancy, infant, or child loss. This unexpected and devastating experience can leave us wholly blindsided, not only by the event itself but also by the fact that it could happen to us or those close to us. Our mission is to provide a  safe space for those blindsided to share their heartfelt stories about the babies they cherished.

Throughout these episodes, we will feature stories of dearly missed children, narrated by their mothers,  birthing or non-birthing partners, fathers, siblings, or grandparents.  By sharing these experiences, we aim to offer solace and guidance to those who are newly blindsided, showing that it’s possible to endure and find hope, knowing that others have been through similar journeys and comprehend their pain.

Our goal is to resonate with individuals who seek understanding and hope during these challenging times of grief.

Stay updated by subscribing to our podcast wherever you get your podcasts, and together, let’s find strength and hope in the shared experiences of these remarkable families and their beloved children.

Introduction: Hosts and Purpose

Speaker
Hi, I'm Nicole and I'm Desiree. We are both mothers who run a support group for perinatal loss. Through our group, we have met many wonderful families and have had the honor of hearing about and sometimes meeting their beautiful babies. We noticed that families feel relief when they can share openly and feel seen when they meet others who are telling similar stories. So we created this podcast as a space for families to share the stories of their babies.

We want to honor and remember these children. We want to help you navigate your life after loss. And most importantly, we want each story to give you hope. So please join us as we share these stories of grief and love. Welcome to the Blindsided Podcast.

Nicole's Nursing Experience and Personal Story

Speaker
Welcome to the Blindsided Podcast where we focus on grief support for those experiencing perinatal loss. I'm Nicole Bruno and I've been a nurse for 10 years and have been helping families experiencing stillbirth, pregnancy, and infant loss since 2016. I have learned through my own grief

and facilitating groups that a lot of families find comfort in being able to share how they feel freely with other people who understand. I lost my own daughter, Christiana, after experiencing a full-term stillbirth when I was just 21 years old. When going through my grief and looking for supportive resources, there was not much around except for one local support group that really helped me through.

We would gather and share freely and the facilitator guided us through our grief and different things we may or may not have been feeling. This helped me so much because at times I felt like I was going crazy. The one thing I remember most from these groups was the stories of the babies. I remember them all by name and think of them often.

Desiree's Community Work and Education Efforts

00:01:43
Speaker
I'm Desiree Miller and I've worked with families in the loss community since 2006. I began as a volunteer for Now I Leave Me Down to Sleep, then moved on to helping start a local loss nonprofit in 2016 and educating medical professionals on bereavement support who are in bedside with their patients. Nicole and I have worked together supporting families for a few years now and wanted to do more than our monthly support group meetings.

Podcast Goals: Sharing, Normalizing, Supporting

00:02:05
Speaker
We hope that the Blindsided Podcast is a space for your beautiful stories to be told, a place for families to share how they really felt in their grief in hopes of normalizing it for others who are listening after their own loss. Sometimes showing up physically to a group can be uncomfortable, so we want our space to be that support group for you. And then when you're ready, hopefully you will find community resources or create your own.

Speaker
If you have no local resources, again, we hope that we can be that community for you. Grief is hard. It's not five steps and done. There are days when you feel great and the next day you feel back to where you started. We want to help anyone struggling, no matter where you are. We want to normalize the grief journey by sharing these stories and reminding you that everyone grieves differently and that is okay.

Future Episodes and Audience Engagement

00:02:51
Speaker
The goal is to produce at least one podcast per month. Episodes may feature someone touched by pregnancy or infant loss and the raw, unfiltered story of their journey. We focus on how they are finding healing through unimaginable grief and where they are today in their family-building journey. Other episodes will feature real listener questions discussed and answered by Desiree Nicole.
