46.1: Atom's Rant About Supporting Food Banks

That's Our Q
Avatar
2 Plays48 seconds ago

No Questions happened today because Atom lost himself in a rant about how supporting your local food banks. It's stuff that needs to be said, but if you're not into that sorta thing, please just skip to the episode called "46.2 Killer Diller Literal Idioms," otherwise, stick around for a rant about how the government is removing funding from food banks in a time where people want them most. I'm no sorry for what I said, but I'm sorry for blindsiding Danny with an impassioned Speech. It happens sometimes. I should note that Danny is NOT a fascist. I was just giving him a hard time because he was late to our recording. We both agree on the subjects I've discussed, but understandably, he was coming at it from a general audience point of view, which I respect. I love you, buddy!

Say hi to us

Introduction and Episode Overview

00:00:00
Speaker
Hi, everybody. It's your best buddy Adam here from That's RQ. ah Danny's here too, but he's remaining quiet. Hello. Hey, so what you're about to hear is a rant about food banks, and not in a bad way, in like a hey, you should support them kind of way.
00:00:14
Speaker
But i lose myself in that rant. And it goes for a really long time. And we don't really ask any like Reddit questions so much as like, why is our earth and country like this kind of questions?
00:00:26
Speaker
So if this isn't something that you want to listen to, totally get it. I'm going to release two episodes this week. You can just go right to the next one. And we also have tons of other wonderful content on funinstallernetwork.biz.com. and across our other podcasts, such as Role Players and, of course, the Role Players Guild, among many other shows that we support.
00:00:45
Speaker
So if this doesn't sound like something you want to hear about, ah maybe just skip this one. But if you're curious, you should toast listen to it because it was fucking juicy.
00:00:56
Speaker
Yeah, you better think of it. You better think of it now, Daniel, because I'm the question man today. That means you have to do the intro, because I found the question now. Oh, all right, fine.

Danny's Absence Explained

00:01:11
Speaker
I'll do that then. I'll copy mine. Do your own but brother around fucking thing. but Oh, wow, okay. ah Good evening, afternoon, and morning, ladies and gentlemen, and people of binaries known and unknown. I'm sorry, unknown and known.
00:01:27
Speaker
A binary's known, known. There's a reason I don't usually do the intro. need you work on that. That way it gets you back into the voice acting. I know. I'm getting into it.
00:01:39
Speaker
Getting in the flow. Getting the flow. All right. Welcome, everybody. That's our Q or TOQ for short. um Yes, as you heard, Adam. Say hello, Adam.
00:01:50
Speaker
Hello, Adam. Great, thank you. Adam is going to be asking the question today. i am Dan, that was Adam. And I'm bad at this, so let's get right into it. Yeah, so I chose a question because Danny was like, I'd rather play Remnant on Steam instead of remember we're recording the podcast this evening.
00:02:09
Speaker
Oh god, all that bus is so heavy.
00:02:14
Speaker
You know what, you reap what you sow, goddammit. <unk> I just completely blanked on the time and and the date and i had a I had about 25 seconds of like real like sadness when it trickled past like 815 820 and I was like dang he just ain't coming do I just go do something else and I was getting ready to but I was like I'm gonna try one more time message him on steam to make sure maybe he's just like really hyper focused on this game and maybe just isn't noticing the world right now it was that
00:02:47
Speaker
yeah I assumed, but was still getting a little sad. I was getting, I'm not going lie. I was a little sad. So I told Adam them just before the recording or just, you know, before we started recording yeah that um I was not going to remember this one because so my, my workplace does half day Fridays during the summer and it starts Memorial day weekend.
00:03:08
Speaker
So this was the first like half day Friday. And we also work from home on Fridays. So I finished working at 1130 a.m. today.
00:03:20
Speaker
That felt so long ago. i honestly thought it was Saturday for like the last half of the day. So I had the date wrong. I had the day wrong. I didn't realize it was eight o'clock at night. That's when we record.
00:03:34
Speaker
um Yeah, I had like everything against me on this one.

Inside a Food Bank: Adam's Experience

00:03:40
Speaker
Oh, it's OK. We're here now. And that's why I wanted to You know, it just, it just, it just, you know, I forgot about your half day Friday thing.
00:03:49
Speaker
Um, I rode all day in a truck today. Uh, yeah, do that. Because at my place of business, I shouldn't really call a place of business, but there's business that we do, but it's not for sale business. It's like we supply food for communities business and, um, but not like a grocery store. We're a food bank.
00:04:08
Speaker
And, um, and, uh, Part of like orientation, like I've been there, it'll be six months on June 9th. And, um, which is really nice. I started on December 9th. So every, every month moving forward, like on whatever month it is of the year, that would be the month that I'm in. So like, that's kind of easy to remember. that's very but anyway, yeah.
00:04:29
Speaker
Yeah. So like one month, uh, you know, My sixth month will be the sixth month. ah But yeah, but part of the what they call the learning experiences is to kind of like give new workers like a better idea of like the other functions that happen around the food bank.
00:04:43
Speaker
um Because it's very easy to become siloed there because like every every, there are so many like specialized departments of like three to four people that all have very specific things they have to do for the food bank to work.
00:04:55
Speaker
Um, that's easy to only like interact with certain people. And so like they have you do these, what, what they call learning experiences to see what other people do. And today I got to go out with one of the drivers that goes and either drops off all the ordered food that different food pantries order, uh, with like funding that we grant them or, or orders that they have that maybe they had some extra money they wanted to spend like at like a really low rate or, or the other side of it that I'm really focused on is like picking up donations from stores.
00:05:26
Speaker
that can't go to directly to a food pantry. So we take them and then distribute them for orders and stuff. So it's like a big old cyclical thing and they do the routes. So it's really cool. So I got the ride along with one of the drivers and go to all these different stops and kind of see what their day looks like and how they go and do these pickups and how they drop off this food. And every place is a little bit different on how they get the food into the building.
00:05:46
Speaker
it's really interesting to see that, but it just, my whole day was just like, fuck. Like I, people love being in a truck all day, but my God, I was like, I'm so glad we get to get out and

Financial Struggles of Food Banks

00:05:55
Speaker
interact with people. I couldn't just sit there, drive and sit in a goddamn truck for like six hours. Well, like other truck driver and truck driving is such an important field in our industry, in our country.
00:06:05
Speaker
But this is a little bit different where it's not like delivering goods, like across state and country lines. It's just like, we're going around the greater area to like drop off food and pick up food. Right. And so, So it's a much different experience of just being in a truck and be like, okay, I'm going to back into this dock and then take a nap in my truck for like three hours while they unload it and do all this other stuff.
00:06:25
Speaker
Um, Not to take anything away from that, because again, it's like incredibly important and they're driving for like 15 hours a fucking day. So they deserve a nap. Yeah, they need to take that nap. Absolutely. um But yeah, it's it was just a very different experience. So like I was feeling a different kind of tired. So I came home and took a nap right away.
00:06:42
Speaker
But I was right around the time that you were clocking out was when I was like, man, I could go for a fucking nap because the person I driving with, very delightful, very sweet person, but likes to keep a cold up in that fucking truck. And i'm like, oh, my gosh.
00:06:54
Speaker
Like once you get so cold, your body's like, well, that must mean it's nap time. so it was hard not to nap a ah as a passenger princess in a 23 foot truck. hey But that sounds really cool. got go on like an adventure today.
00:07:07
Speaker
That's awesome. Yeah, and I got to do it once before with the same driver when we were picking up soup for like a big soup event, like a bunch of different. like customers all or uh food creators food creators jesus christ this is kitchens fuck's sake kitchens uh i'm kind of like food creators food creators does sound like a cool like spinoff show from fun installers check out food creators there you go um And ah but yeah, i got to go pick up like a bunch of soup and stuff. We'd we'd drop off these five gallon buckets and like people would create like their special soups and they would donate it. And then that way we'd have like a big event later where all these different soups were taken to this facility.
00:07:44
Speaker
People would come in, have like a big gala, a big, nice event. And they'd pay like 30 bucks to get in, which goes towards the food bank. And they would enjoy like all these different samples of soup from like 11 other counties in the greater Pittsburgh area.
00:07:56
Speaker
to see which ones they like the best. It's a really cool event. Um, we got to do that too, where we just drive around the city just chase these giant ass buckets of soup all over the place. It was quite the experience, but yeah. So, but anyway, the point of my story was like, you know, I've, I right around the time that you were getting out of work, I was also hoping to get out of work cause I was so tired, but then like we and went and got hot dogs and I got a second wind after that. But, um,
00:08:23
Speaker
But I kind of get it. I kind of get it where you just kind of get lost in your day at some point. and You just lose track of time. Yeah, I had just gone so long. like Because, I mean, 1130, that's still pretty early.
00:08:34
Speaker
And this was the very first half day Friday, so I'm not like used to it yet. And it's just it felt so long ago. i was like, it's got to be Saturday. kids Oh, yeah. It's Saturday night. We're not doing nothing. It's Saturday night. It's Saturday night.
00:08:48
Speaker
Yeah. Before we continue. Yes. I would just like to ah call attention to, you know, it is my public service announcement. Okay.
00:09:05
Speaker
Very likely wherever it is that you live, if you're a listener of this podcast, somewhere in your greater community, there is a food bank or several food pantries and there is a difference, but You know, if you can support that shit, because there is a radical increase of need because of the rising prices of groceries.
00:09:26
Speaker
Thanks to the orange fucker that runs this country. Well, quote unquote, runs. Oh, no. So I just want and i and again, I know I probably shouldn't have thrown that in there for a public announcement, but I'm just saying that's a very real problem that a lot of communities are having. And food banks across the nation are really struggling. And they just ripped like a bunch of funding from food banks across the country.
00:09:48
Speaker
Millions of dollars that we could just count on every year that we're coming in. All we had to do was apply to get approved like our food bank alone, just for one of our funding, ah one of our bills. was one and a half million dollars.
00:09:59
Speaker
And we just found out we're losing like another six, what was it? six Six, 600 and some odd thousand dollars in funding once July starts. So like that's $2 million dollars that our food bank used to run programs that now we don't have. And we have to restructure our budget to try to continue without having to drop anything.
00:10:17
Speaker
So I just want you all to know out there that this is a very real problem. And when you think about it, food banks should be the one place that nobody attacks because everybody in this country has to eat. They should be eating, but they're all not because they can't or they can't afford it.

Political Critique and the Call for Action

00:10:30
Speaker
ah But also, you know, we all got to eat. So like, If you can support your food pantries, support your food banks. They do incredible work and the ins and outs of how they work is so fucking important. You would have no idea unless you walked in there and saw how it functioned.
00:10:45
Speaker
So if you can volunteer, cause that's another thing, whether it's at a food bank or a food pantry, getting young volunteers is so hard. Most volunteers or most of people that run food pantries, food pantries specifically are like the smaller ones that are distributed around your area.
00:11:00
Speaker
Most food pantries are run by senior citizens who are retired, who just do it for the love of the game because they want to feed their communities, right? They get no pay whatsoever. So, and they struggle because the programs that I run involves them driving around neighborhoods and picking up food from stores to help them feed the communities.
00:11:18
Speaker
And they're all tired and they're older and they can't keep up. And the most common thing I get is like, we wish we had some younger people to help us, but a lot of young folks don't see the importance of what we do. So, My big PSA is twofold.
00:11:31
Speaker
Number one, if you can donate to your food pantries, whether it's food or money, donate to your food bank. If you know which one it is, look it up on Google. I guarantee you have some there. ah And number two, if you can, even if it's like once a week, once a month, even go volunteer to food pantry, volunteer at to food bank.
00:11:50
Speaker
Every single person who has ever volunteered our food bank has stuck around. They've all kept coming back. They sign up weekly, monthly. They love it. They pick the thing they like to do the most and they always look forward to it.
00:12:00
Speaker
And if you're somebody who's in college, you can put that on your resume, your applications. You can put that as your extracurricular, whatever it is. Some people give you credits for that, whatever that may be. Just to know that I could fucking point in a random direction from where you live, knowing there's a food bank within like five to 10 miles of you who needs your help.
00:12:18
Speaker
So if you can, whatever you can do, make sure that you help them out. Because more than ever, people are struggling. Food bank numbers are going up. ah ah Rather, applications in food banks are going up. Applications in food pantries are going up.
00:12:31
Speaker
And food pantries are calling us saying, hey, we can't keep up with like the three-fold requests that we get now. We're used to serving 30, 40 houses a month. Now we're serving 120. And we don't know how to keep up with that demand. And we don't want to turn anybody away.
00:12:47
Speaker
So what can we do? So I'm just saying, if you can help out and then write to your administration, especially if you voted for the fuckers and tell them, leave goddamn food banks alone.
00:12:58
Speaker
Leave them the fuck alone. Everybody has to eat. Everybody should eat. America is the richest country on planet Earth. And we have people who are starving. It's stupid. So write to your fucking Congress people or call them and say, hey, ass wipes.
00:13:09
Speaker
Why are you taking away funding from food banks? All right. That's the end. Just wanted y'all to know. Very important. You might not know how all that works. I do. I live it. I work it every single day. It's crazy how it works.
00:13:21
Speaker
You can do better. We can do better. so yeah, there we go. I'm done. Danny, back to you.
00:13:28
Speaker
This episode is either going to
00:13:32
Speaker
get single digit listens or it's going to be our most popular episode ever. I'm not sorry. For all of the wrong reasons. I am not sorry. I'm not sorry for giving fuck about people.
00:13:47
Speaker
I'm not sorry for caring about people and you shouldn't be either. I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry. I didn't say I was. Now I'm just saying for anybody who listens, it goes, I can't believe that. I would try to make this. You know what? Food is not political, which is why I'm angry because political people are taking money from people who just want to eat food.
00:14:07
Speaker
That's stupid. It's not political. It's social. It's economical. Socioeconomics. It's right there in the fucking title, baby. Support your food banks. Tell your congresspeople. Tell the president.
00:14:18
Speaker
Fucking leave food banks alone. Leave food alone. Nobody in this country should be hungry. That's all I'm saying. That's stupid that they are. That's absolutely stupid and it's not their fault. Stick it to the man, baby.
00:14:29
Speaker
Stick it to the man. That's all I'm saying. Feed people. Care about people. I'm not sorry for giving a fuck and you shouldn't be either. God damn it.

Discussion on Content Direction

00:14:37
Speaker
Anyway. just wanted answer questions.
00:14:40
Speaker
Well, here's a question for you. Why do we live in a country with the most wealth on planet Earth and people are hungry? We produce more food than we have people who can eat it and moreph it most of it gets thrown away because fucking people pull yourself up by your bootstraps. It's dumb.
00:14:56
Speaker
It's dumb. It's dumb. It's dumb. And nay dare I say, it's dumb. Anyway, do you want to answer a question, Danny? I have one. Do we have time to? Yes, we have time to.
00:15:08
Speaker
ah If you made it this fucking far in the episode, God bless you. i'm not sorry. i know you're not sorry. And I know it's important and it needs to be said, but God damn it.
00:15:22
Speaker
I'm sorry. My God, that was like a 15 minute goddamn rant in a 20 minute show. Jesus Christ. I just like, I just, I I'm sorry. i just felt like it just felt like for a moment, someone sat on my heart and my heart was like an orange and all of it just came squeezing out. Yeah. te Are you okay? Do you need to talk?
00:15:45
Speaker
Honestly, I'm better now that I got got to say it in a place where if anybody listens, hey, listen, if you heard this from this far and you agree that people shouldn't be hungry, I would love to hear some solutions or I would love to hear some places that you support.
00:16:00
Speaker
So please leave a message on the Spotify. You can leave leave comments on there to say, hey, fuck yeah, food banks. There's nothing wrong with supporting food banks. That ain't political, baby. Everybody should be happy we have them.
00:16:11
Speaker
We serve people no matter who you vote for, no matter what you look like, who you love, who you worship. Every single person who comes to our domain who needs food fucking gets it. And we never say, who did you vote for?
00:16:23
Speaker
Did you vote for the guy who's trying to take this away from you? No, we don't ask that question. We just say, oh, you're hungry. Here's some fucking food, dude, because you deserve to eat because you're a human goddamn being. That's what we do. And that's how we should treat people. So if you have people like that in your life, let us fucking know that you support food banks.
00:16:39
Speaker
Fuck yeah, food banks in the comments of wherever you listen to your podcast. Say fuck yeah, food banks on our website, funnestellersnetwork.biz. Say fuck yeah, food banks on a social media post and then fucking tag Random Adam on Instagram and let me know.
00:16:52
Speaker
I will, oo I'll come fucking give you the highest of fives. That's all I'm saying. Anyway, Danny, here's my question that I found on Reddit. madam So absolutely what is, god fuck i have to laugh.
00:17:11
Speaker
is So they're so scuffed. No, is it? Is this, this here, this year, this, this, do we Do we just not do we just not do a question?
00:17:26
Speaker
yeah You know what? do i see this Why don't you just make this the Adam Rance 20 minute episode? Why don't you just do that? Adam's PSA featuring Danny.
00:17:38
Speaker
Everybody can tell where your heart is at right now. oh Why don't you just take this episode, get it out. Everyone who's listening, if you got this far again, God bless you. Also, this is just a one time thing. Please bear with us.
00:17:51
Speaker
The next episode will be more normal. then and I will make sure of it. I will make sure of it. I will give it the Danny guarantee. because Wait, wait, wait, wait hang on hang on, hang on, hang on. Are you telling me you don't support fuck yeah food banks?
00:18:05
Speaker
No, fuck you. You know I do. Are you trying to tell me that you hate food banks right now, Danny? I hate when I go to listen to a funny show where idiots talk about questions and I just get preached on about a food bank for 20 minutes.
00:18:19
Speaker
First of all, it's not like I'm trying to shove a religion down your throat. I'm trying to tell you people deserve to eat. It's different. It's different. but I'm not trying to say you should worship who I worship, although I worship the people.
00:18:32
Speaker
But I'm telling you that we should all be allowed to eat. That's all I'm saying. i don't think there's anything wrong with that. No, there's nothing wrong with that. What if I just put this on the website? No, and yeah fuck it. No, it's going on the main feed. I don't care.
00:18:44
Speaker
Yeah, great. I'm putting it on the main feed. I'm not sorry. I'm not sorry. I know. I know. I know. I want to answer a question anyway, Danny. I'm sorry. Okay. What?
00:18:56
Speaker
you hate Do you hate food banks? and Here's my, I'm reading a question from Reddit right now and it says, dear Reddit, is Danny Guarantee you hate food banks? That's crazy.
00:19:06
Speaker
Danny, what are your thoughts? yeah I think this is question. volunteered at food banks before. Yeah. yeah That's part of scouts. You still volunteer now? No. Why? That part of boy scouts.
00:19:18
Speaker
That long ago, Daniel? Oh yeah, it was a long time ago. But I did. might have a of fun. more than most people can say. Might have a lot of fun. It's usually just couple hours.
00:19:31
Speaker
Sometimes it's packing senior boxes, which are very important. Sometimes it's, ah you know, helping to ah ah like run like certain parts of their pantries if they have one, which is really fun.
00:19:43
Speaker
I just want people to know where I'm coming from. OK, we sat down. were like, oh, and let's record. Well, first of all, actually, no, I'm sorry. I was in the middle of a very nice gaming session, right, playing Remnant. And then somebody comes along is like, hey, are we going to do TOQ or anything? I'm like, yeah. Oh, my God. Someone comes along. who shall re remain remain nameless comes along and is like, you want to you want do TOQ? Like, it's TOQ time, man. Like, oh, crap. i Let me hurry up. Let me close the game. Let me get TOQ set up, right? And then I sit here. I'm all like, okay, yeah, this good. Like, I'm ready, man. Let's answer some questions.

Conclusion and Future Plans

00:20:21
Speaker
And now I just got to sit here for โ€“ 19 minutes and 26 seconds listening to the food bank rant only only to then be made the subject of it and guilt tripped first of all listen here you son of a terry i was just telling you i was just telling you I was going to call you. What were you telling me? four we before we Before you got on, I was going start calling you, you son of a Gabe, you son of a Terry.
00:20:59
Speaker
I was thinking, how funny would it be instead of like putting a curse word in, you just tell somebody that they're parents. They're just like, you son of your dad, get in here. and You son of a dad. um It's like Thor Odinson, but it's like Denny Gabe's son.
00:21:18
Speaker
you son yeah I am Denny, son of Gabe.
00:21:23
Speaker
and What are we talking about? my God. Nothing. We weren't talking about anything. We're good. Hey, look, it's been 20 minutes. Danny, look. yeah Okay, look. I know I said I wasn't sorry.
00:21:34
Speaker
I should clarify. I'm not sorry for how I feel and for the words that I said. I'm not sorry for those things. But i I do apologize, Danny, that I blindsided you inadvertently with a rant instead of a question.
00:21:47
Speaker
No, it's fine. It's fine. ah The only thing I will say, last last thing on the topic for me. OK. And this is just a small piece of advice for for Adam.
00:22:02
Speaker
Okay. Hit me. Time and place. This is a time. This is a place. It is. Absolutely. Yes, it is a time and it is a place. Is it the correct time and place?
00:22:15
Speaker
Did people come here for this or are they going to start to hear the rant and go, oh, wow, fuck this. This isn't what I signed up for right now. You what? There are other episodes you can listen to that don't involve this stuff. We have 45 other ones that are all independently posted, not related to each other.
00:22:33
Speaker
You can go listen to any of those in whatever order that you want. Read the show notes because then you'll know what to expect, baby. That's all I'm saying. The show notes are just going to say, do you like food pantries?
00:22:44
Speaker
You know what? I'm just going to write the title as don't listen to this if you don't want to hear it. It's going to be a long title. Adam rants about food pantries. just going to call it don't listen to this one if you don't like rants.
00:22:57
Speaker
There's no questions here. Run. You know, maybe I'll write an article about that and put it on the website. just There you go. and Just food banks and food pantries. I think you should do a show that's just you ranting about shit. I'd love to.
00:23:12
Speaker
Honestly, the impassioned rants are what get people to do things, and you're good at that. You are good at like putting passion behind what you're saying, and you get passionate about good you know objectively good things.
00:23:28
Speaker
But that means more editing I have to do and more shows I have to do. No, no, no, no. You just rant for a bit and then you throw it online. Why can't do that on TOQ? Oh, you know what? I got an idea.
00:23:39
Speaker
No, you cannot do it on TOQ. Yeah, but i already did it for this particular one. so I know. For the first time in TOQ history, I propose something. I propose this.
00:23:52
Speaker
What if we make this a two-parter where we just call it like episode 46.1 and 46.2. And then like, like just says, this one has an actual question in it. This one is the rant. So that way you can know ahead of time that like, okay, I'm going and I'm going to release them at the same time.
00:24:13
