Welcome to today's Bible reading! Today we will read about the king of  Egypt's continued refusal to allow the Jewish people to leave Egypt and  God's continued wonders that He is performing as consequences to the  king of Egypt and the Egyptians for not allowing the Jewish people to  leave Egypt. We will see how God protects HIS people and allows those  who are NOT His people to experience the bugs and flies that He will  send to Egypt! In the same way, God CAN and WILL protect HIS people from  things when we seek HIS protection! I have experienced this amazing  protection myself and share this with you in the video today. I  encourage YOU to have faith in our loving, amazing, all powerful God who  cares about us and wants us to come to Him with faith and ask for His  divine protection during times when it does not seem possible. NOTHING  is impossible for our Almighty God!

if you would like a printed copy on the sugar cane paper that you see. Mine is this pretty beige color and that's because it's not using any trees and it's not bleached. So it uses sugar cane to make all of it and it feels really nice and it looks really pretty and it goes so lovely with those gold foil cross stickers that I am using.
00:01:57
Speaker

Exodus Reading: Moses and Pharaoh

00:02:50
Speaker
So let's go ahead and get going today with our daily Bible reading, whether you are joining me today on YouTube or via my site, Zencaster, Spotify, Facebook. Uh, I think that might be it. However, you are here today. Welcome. And I'm so glad that you are here today. We are continuing in Exodus and we are seeing how Moses is ah going back and forth with the King.
00:03:20
Speaker
He and Aaron to get the king of Egypt to let the Jewish people leave Egypt. And I wanted to point out something that I had not pointed out earlier is that this king of Egypt would be the the man that Moses grew up with as a brother.
00:03:41
Speaker
Because you may remember that Moses was essentially adopted by the ah king of Egypt's daughter, the princess. And the king of Egypt has died now. So Moses was not her natural child, but he did grow up with the princess, who may well and be queen at this point.
00:04:01
Speaker
um No, probably not. I think that would be the prince's wife, not his mother. ah That it may well be his step-brother that he grew up with, who would be younger than him, who has ah taken the position as king. So I just wanted to put that out there as just a little tidbit. So today we are going to be reading through Exodus 8.
00:04:30
Speaker
And today in Exodus 8, our section is entitled Frogs, Bugs, and Flies. I do want to remind us again also that ah God has assured Moses that he will make the Pharaoh's heart hard and that it will not be an easy journey.
00:04:50
Speaker
and that this will require him to perform many wonders so that everybody, whether they are the Jews or the king of Egypt or the Egyptian people, will see that God is the one true God and he is almighty and he can do things nobody can. Now you may remember in our story yesterday and the day before, Moses was performing his wonders and the king had his magic men come out and they did some of the same things.
00:05:20
Speaker
But today we're gonna see a little ah little more. I'm not quite sure how to say it. ah We're going to see, we saw how Aaron's walking stick that turned into a snake ate up the walking stick snakes of the magic men. And we're gonna see another showing up of God. There we go. God is going to show up these magic men using um ah just himself.
00:05:50
Speaker
So all right, let's get going. There's your little ah thing to look out for today. Look out for God being mightier. He may have allowed those magic men to and commit some of those same acts, but God is gonna show that he is the one who is mightier.
00:06:14
Speaker
Exodus eight, frogs, bugs, and flies. A week later, God told Moses, go back. Go to the king. Tell him to let my people go. If you don't, I'll send frogs. The Nile River will be full of frogs. Frogs will go into your palace. Frogs will be in your bedroom. Frogs will get on your bed. Frogs will get in all the houses. They'll get on all the people. Frogs will even be in your ovens and bowls.
00:06:48
Speaker
God said to tell Aaron, hold out your hand. Hold your walking stick over the rivers and ponds. There will be frogs all over Egypt. So Aaron did. Up came the frogs. They went all over the land. But the king's magic men did the same thing. They made frogs come out too.
00:07:14
Speaker
The king called Moses and Aaron. Pray to God, he said. Ask him to take the frogs away. Then I'll let your people go. Tell me when, said Moses. Tomorrow, said the king. All right, said Moses. Then you'll know there is nobody like God. The frogs will leave and they will only be in the river. So Moses and Aaron left. Then Moses prayed to God and God answered him.
00:07:44
Speaker
The frogs died all around. Frogs died in the houses. Frogs died in the yards. Frogs died in the fields. People made piles of dead frogs. It made the whole land smell terrible. The king saw that the frogs were dead, so he got angry and he let his heart to get hard again. He wouldn't listen to Moses and Aaron. It was just like God had said.
00:08:14
Speaker
So God talked with Moses again and he said to tell Aaron, hold your walking stick out. Hit the dust on the ground. The dust will turn into tiny bugs that fly. So Aaron hit the dust with his walking stick and the dust turned into tiny biting bugs. They flew all over the people and the animals. Now the king's magic men tried to do this too.
00:08:43
Speaker
But they couldn't. They went to the king. God is doing this, they said. But the king didn't care. He would not listen to Moses. It was just like God had said. Then God talked to Moses again. early Get up early tomorrow morning. Meet the king when he goes out to the water. Talk to him. These were God's words for the king.
00:09:12
Speaker
Let my people go. They must worship me. If you don't let them go, I will send flies. Lots of big flies will come everywhere in Egypt. Flies will fill the houses. Flies will cover the ground, but I won't send flies where the Jews live. Then you'll know I am the Lord. I will treat your people and my people differently.
00:09:40
Speaker
This will all happen tomorrow. And that is just what happened. There were so many flies. They looked like big black clouds.
00:09:55
Speaker
Flies flew into the king's palace. Flies flew into people's houses. Flies messed up the land. Then the king called Moses and Aaron, and he said, I'll let the people worship your God, but they must do it here in my land.
00:10:13
Speaker
That wouldn't work, said Moses. The people of Egypt don't like the way we worship, and they'll give us a hard time. We have to travel for three days, and we have to go into the desert. That is where we will worship God. I'll let you worship God in the desert, said the king, but don't go very far. Pray for me now.
00:10:35
Speaker
I'll pray when I leave you, said Moses. The flies will go away tomorrow, but make sure you don't lie to us again. This time you better let us go. Then Moses left. He prayed to God and God got rid of the flies. There wasn't even one left. But the king still didn't think that God was important. He did not let God's people go.

Reflections on Faith

00:11:05
Speaker
so
00:11:08
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today. Did you see the part where God made the tiny biting bugs come and the magic men tried to do it and they couldn't? And finally they gave glory to God and they said, God is doing this. And the other thing I want to point out is God's provision and protection for his people. I love that. We are God's people.
00:11:38
Speaker
And in the same way, God can and does at times choose to treat us differently than he does people who do not believe in him and do not come to him for his protection. So I want to encourage you as a child of God, you have special status with God. I have special status. We are God's children.
00:12:03
Speaker
We choose to worship God and love God and come to God when we need him. And he was going to treat, and he did treat his people differently. So that can look like in a fire, like what we're having here, and like what you've experienced in the past, where you prayed for God's protection, and where other people had fire burn, God protected you.
00:12:31
Speaker
And he has done the same thing ah because you and told me about that, Julie. I then prayed for God's protection ah for my house when we had flooding a couple of years ago. And because you shared what God did for you and you glorified God and you told me what he did, it gave me encouragement and the faith to then ask for God's provision in the exact same way. And sure enough, he did it.
00:12:59
Speaker
We had an amazing thing happen on Christmas Eve where it was raining and raining and raining and raining and there was so much water and I went to Christmas Eve service and I came back fully expecting that um my bedroom is going to be full of water or very close to it.
00:13:18
Speaker
And ah miraculously, it wasn't. And what had happened was that somebody had tampered with a um ah a something made of cement ah in the creek area behind the the property behind mine. and they had ah And the tampering had allowed ah the flooding to enter into um the the Ramona water districts overflow water, some sort of water thing. Whatever it was, it it took in water and it took in so much water that it created an alert for the Ramona water district. And they had to deploy ah a repair unit on Christmas Eve to see what was going on because they were taking in just gallons and gallons and gallons of water.
00:14:18
Speaker
And God used that event to save my house from being flooded on Christmas Eve. So glory be to God. And so it was your sharing that with me that allowed me to pray. And so God uses ordinary means to do extraordinary things. And nothing is too hard for him.
00:14:43
Speaker
And so i I was so thankful and I love to tell people about that story ah because it was definitely God's provision that he was using things um to protect me. And he did that in advance before I had even prayed for it because it was not an immediate tampering. It was at some point that um cistern type thing had been tampered with and it took in so much water that they had to deploy a repair unit and they got it repaired.
00:15:12
Speaker
But by that time, the the flooding was under control and it was enough to keep it from flooding my house. And so that is an example of God um treating his people differently. I came to him and he answered my prayer. And so I want to encourage everyone watching whether you um are familiar ah with these stories or not whether you've been here ah all along or whether you're just finding this today sometime in the future or today on January 23rd and you were just watching for the first time to put your faith in God because he can and will protect you when there are other things going around
00:15:57
Speaker
you that you may be miraculously protected. All of these things were happening. There were flies and frogs and tiny biting bugs and it was happening right next door to everybody. All of the Jewish neighbors or all of the Egyptian neighbors were affected by this but not the Jewish people because God treated his people differently and he protected them whereas he did not protect the Egyptian people.
00:16:26
Speaker
and they were right in the exact same place.
00:16:30
Speaker
So there you go. I just want to put that out there for us today. That is our big takeaway in personal application. And it's it's not just something that happened at the time of ah Moses. This is real world stuff that God still does today. Our amazing God who performed miracles in the Bible is still the same amazing miraculous God who has the ability and the desire to perform the same types of miracles today for us when we put our faith in Him. So I hope you have a great rest of your night. It is morning for me as usual, but it is nighttime for you. And I hope you have had a great day. Oh, and I i did um mention yesterday that I was going to pray for you, that you had something where ah you would give God the glory.
00:17:21
Speaker
um and i I hope that you remembered that. I prayed for you and I hope and I know I had something I don't want to share specifically what it was but I had an amazing event yesterday that I have given God the glory for and I've been talking with him about all morning and so I just want to share that with you that I absolutely did have an event yesterday that was just amazing that allowed me to see um how God used that ah event that was um difficult for me ah last week or so where I was concerned but not overly concerned and i I had an amazing experience yesterday at work and so I just want to share with you that it did occur and so I hope that you had something in your life where you could give God the glory for that as well.
00:18:18
Speaker
So that's all I have for you today. I will see you again tomorrow.

Technical Announcements and Conclusion

00:18:23
Speaker
There is a very possible likelihood that I'm going to have a power outage ah in the next four hours or less. So I'm actually going to attempt to record the 24th today so that I have it ready for publishing or I have it scheduled ah because it may well be that I have no internet Even though I have battery backup now, I've been told that I may not even with my battery backup have access to the internet, which I thought I would have as long as I had the battery backup. But I guess something may ah be related to the electricity and the internet access.
00:19:02
Speaker
um I don't know how all of that works, I confess. But in the event that I don't have electricity with ah no internet tomorrow, I'm going to try to record tomorrow's today. If I'm unable to get it done for some reason or it's not there, I apologize. I'm going to do the best I can to figure something out. Maybe I can record it on my phone because my phone does have internet. I would just have to use that camera and and upload it to YouTube and my site from there, which I can do.
00:19:32
Speaker
So I'm still working all that out, but I just wanted to give you a little bit of a heads up on that. So that's about it. Thank you so much. I will see you all tomorrow.
