Today's reading will cover Matthew Chapters 15:21-16:4 and Mark Chapters 7:24-8:12.

Today's reading will bring us an account of a woman who was not Jewish but knew that Jesus could heal her daughter. When Jesus told her that He was sent to the Israelite people and it was not right to throw their food to the dogs she replied that even dogs eat crumbs that fall from their master's tables. Jesus, impressed by her faith, granted her request and her daughter was healed. We will read about a man who could not hear or speak properly and Jesus opened his ears and mouth. When the people saw what Jesus did they praised God and said that Jesus did everything right. When the crowd of people had been with Jesus for three days and used up their food Jesus was concerned for them and did not want them to be too weak to travel due to hunger. His disciples, rather than remembering how God had provided food to more than 5,000 people just a short time ago asked where they would get enough food to feed the more than 4,000 men, women, and children who were present. Jesus responded by asking how much food there was on hand. Then, after blessing the seven loaves of bread and the few small fish, Jesus once again fed all the people to the point that they had plenty to eat and then the disciples gathered seven baskets of leftovers.

In our discussion for daily application we will talk about whether we, after seeing God take care of us over and over again, remember to bring our seemingly impossible-to-solve needs to Him or if we, like the disciples, ask where or how we are going to be able to solve seemingly impossible problems. Even if we have never experienced areas of intense need in our lives previously, we need to be able to remember the examples we are reading about in the Bible and be encouraged to come to God, asking Him to provide, heal, solve whatever is going on, then have faith that God has already answered our prayer and given us what we asked for, the way Jesus instructs us, because NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR GOD.

Miracles of Jesus

00:01:27
Speaker
So today we are going to be looking at some events where Jesus is healing people. And once again, he is going to feed large number of people with a small amount of food.
00:01:40
Speaker
So what we're going to be looking at and looking for in our daily reading today is the building of faith. Do we still have doubts? Do we still worry when things are tough?
00:01:53
Speaker
Do we wonder how God could possibly bring us out of this situation, whatever it may be? Are we wondering how are we going to fix something? Or are we giving the problem to God?
00:02:06
Speaker
Well, here we're going to look at those questions and talk about them. for our daily application. Our first section is entitled Making People Well.
00:02:19
Speaker
So after Jesus had gone back and forth in the boat, he went to a town called Tyre and he went to a house there. Now he didn't want anyone to know he was there, but he couldn't keep it a secret.
00:02:35
Speaker
And a woman who was not Jewish, she was a Canaanite woman, she lived near there and she came to see Jesus. She cried out to him, Lord, be kind to me.
00:02:49
Speaker
Bad spirits control my daughter.
00:02:53
Speaker
Jesus didn't answer her. So Jesus' friend said, this lady keeps crying to us. Tell her to go away. Jesus looked at the lady.
00:03:05
Speaker
I was sent only to God's people, he said. Now the woman bowed down to Jesus. Lord, help me, she said to him.
00:03:18
Speaker
I shouldn't take what belongs to God's people, said Jesus, and I shouldn't toss it to the dogs. It wouldn't be right. Yes, Lord, she said, but even dogs get tiny bits of food. They eat what falls off of their master's table.
00:03:37
Speaker
Then Jesus said, You have a lot of faith. I will give you what you asked for.
00:03:45
Speaker
And at that very moment, her daughter got well.

Compassion and Provision

00:03:50
Speaker
Then Jesus traveled to the ten cities. Some people led a man to Jesus and this man couldn't hear. He could hardly talk and the people asked Jesus to put his hand on him.
00:04:04
Speaker
So Jesus took the man away from the people and he put his fingers into the man's ears. And then Jesus spit. he put He touched the man's tongue.
00:04:16
Speaker
Then Jesus looked up to heaven and he took a deep breath. Open up. he said. And right away the man's ears were opened.
00:04:28
Speaker
His tongue was set free and he started to speak clearly.
00:04:35
Speaker
Jesus told the crowd not to tell anybody, but you know, the more Jesus said, don't tell, the more they told. People were very surprised and they said, Jesus does it everything just right.
00:04:52
Speaker
He can even make people hear he can make people talk.
00:04:58
Speaker
So big crowds of people came to see Jesus and they brought people who couldn't walk or see. They brought people who couldn't hear or talk and Jesus made them well.
00:05:12
Speaker
People who couldn't walk before ended up walking and people who couldn't see ended up seeing. People who couldn't hear or speak were listening and talking, and everyone was very surprised.
00:05:28
Speaker
And the people cheered for God. Now the crowd around Jesus hadn't had anything to eat, so Jesus called his friends to him.

Testing and Signs

00:05:40
Speaker
I feel sorry for these people, he said. They've been with me for three days and they don't have anything left to eat. Many of them came a long way to get here and they will get hungry on the way home if I just send them home and they might be too weak to get home.
00:05:57
Speaker
Well, we're not close to any town, said his friends. Where can we get enough bread to feed all these people?
00:06:05
Speaker
How much bread do you have? Jesus asked them. We have seven loaves of bread, they said. so Jesus told the people to sit on the ground.
00:06:16
Speaker
He took the seven loaves of bread and he thanked God. Then he pulled the buns apart and he gave them to his friends.
00:06:28
Speaker
And his friends gave them to the people. Now someone also had a few small fish who were there. And Jesus gave thanks for those fish too. Then he told his friends to pass the fish to everyone. And all the people got plenty of food.
00:06:48
Speaker
And there were about 4,000 men. And there were many women and children there too. And after they were finished, Jesus' friends picked up the leftovers. And all in all, they collected seven baskets full of leftovers.
00:07:06
Speaker
Then Jesus sent the people away and he got into a boat with his friends. They sailed across the lake. Now the leaders wanted to test Jesus. And they wanted him to show them a miracle.
00:07:20
Speaker
So Jesus said to them, You say the evening sky is red and so tomorrow we will have good weather. You say the morning sky is red and there are clouds, so we will have a storm today.
00:07:36
Speaker
You can tell what will happen by looking at the sky, but you are not looking around you. What is happening right now? asked Jesus.
00:07:48
Speaker
Sinful people look for miracles, but you will get just one sign. And that is the sign of Jonah.
00:07:59
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.
00:08:05
Speaker
So what is the sign of Jonah? Do you remember? I think we had one of those already where he said that. In the story of Jonah, Jonah was inside the belly of the whale for three days and three nights.
00:08:18
Speaker
And so I believe Jesus already told us that they would receive the sign of Jonah where he would be inside the earth for three days, three nights.

Faith and Encouragement

00:08:27
Speaker
And that is when he would be in the tomb for three days before he rose again.
00:08:33
Speaker
The sign of Jonah. But he did not bother to explain it to them. He just told them the sign of Jonah and he walked away.
00:08:42
Speaker
So what did we see here? At first we saw a woman who was not Jewish and she was not even a Gentile believer. It just says that she was a woman who was not Jewish and who was Canaanite and who was living in the area of Tyre.
00:08:59
Speaker
And she heard about Jesus, so she came. And in our big Bible, she doesn't call him the son of God. She calls him son of David. And she asks him to heal her daughter.
00:09:13
Speaker
And Jesus said, you are not Jewish. It's not right for me to take what was given ah to the children and give it to the dogs. Sounds harsh, doesn't it?
00:09:24
Speaker
But he came for the believers. He came for those who were the lost sheep of Israel. But she was stubborn, wasn't she? She wanted that blessing and she believed that he would give it to her.
00:09:39
Speaker
She just had to be persistent and ask. And so he rewarded that by telling her that her faith was great. That even just a little, she would take whatever he would give her.
00:09:51
Speaker
She would take whatever Jesus was willing to give, just the crumbs. that fell from the table. She said, yes, Lord, but even the dogs get the crumbs that fall from the master's table.
00:10:05
Speaker
She was content with just a crumb. And because she was content to receive just a crumb that might fall to her, he granted her by her faith. And her daughter was healed at that very time.
00:10:19
Speaker
So let's contrast that with, once again, the faith of those who were seeing Jesus perform amazing things every day. and yet, when Jesus said he wanted to provide food for the people, the disciples, none of them, came forward and said, well, Lord, the last time you asked us about this, you provided a great deal of food for them simply by giving thanks, and God multiplied the food that was there.
00:10:47
Speaker
Nobody asked for that to happen. They just said, we don't have enough food. All we have is seven loaves of bread and a couple of fish. That's all we have. And that was after Jesus asked, how much do we have?
00:11:04
Speaker
So that can highlight our own disbelief or our own lack of faith to bring something to God. And we're all guilty of that.
00:11:16
Speaker
So we can't just say, ah what was wrong with these people? How many times has God provided for us in difficult situations where we thought that nothing could be done and then things just happened and they worked out for us.
00:11:29
Speaker
And yet we don't take things to God and expect amazing things to happen. So I just want us to be encouraged in our daily application that once again, Jesus showed them all they needed to do was to take it to God and God would provide.
00:11:48
Speaker
God provides for us. We need to seek his kingdom first. And in this case, as Jesus was seeking the kingdom of God. He was teaching people about God's kingdom and God provided everything that they needed.
00:12:03
Speaker
God provided their food. He did not send the people away hungry. Jesus was compassionate, and he said he was concerned for the people.
00:12:14
Speaker
He didn't want them to faint on the way home, and some of them had come from a long way, and they were in the middle of nowhere. There was nowhere for them to go and get food. So Jesus fed them.
00:12:26
Speaker
Just in the same way, Jesus can solve whatever issue we have going on if we only have the faith to take it to God and ask him to multiply what we have.
00:12:39
Speaker
And we just need to have faith in him in the same way that we see the woman had faith.

Spreading the Word

00:12:45
Speaker
Here we also see the Pharisees who were witness to the many things that Jesus had done. And they had heard about the things.
00:12:53
Speaker
And yet they have the audacity to question him and say, you need to show us a wonder or a miracle so that we can be satisfied that you are who you say you are.
00:13:05
Speaker
He had already done so many things. And as if we as we have mentioned in the past, Jesus was not there to just perform miracles on demand for their satisfaction.
00:13:17
Speaker
Could they not see? Jesus said, you can read the weather, but you can't see what is going on right in front of you right now.
00:13:28
Speaker
Sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. So we can be just as guilty of this. Sometimes we can't see the forest because of the trees. We can be right in the middle of it and not know what we are right in the middle of.
00:13:43
Speaker
We need to be able to open up our eyes and see and have ears to hear.
00:13:52
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today, that you are encouraged to have faith in God, to bring whatever it is that you have going on in your life to God and ask him to to do something about it, whatever it is, take care of you.
00:14:08
Speaker
in the way that he took care of all of these people. The people, when they saw Jesus healing the man who couldn't hear or speak properly, they said, Jesus does everything just right.
00:14:23
Speaker
In our big Bible, it says, Jesus does everything well. He does everything well. We can take whatever we have to him and he will do everything we bring him well.
00:14:40
Speaker
So again, I hope that you are encouraged by that and that you feel that God has lit your light. And if you have, then in you might have somebody on your heart that you feel needs to hear this, that God has put into your mind that you need to share this event with so that we can help spread the word about reading God's word because God's word equips us.
00:15:01
Speaker
So that it is good for you. It is useful for instruction. It's useful for restoration. It's useful for making us able to do every good work that God gives us to do.
00:15:15
Speaker
God's word is wonderful. And we want to spread the a word about reading God's word so that other people also know that they can take anything to God because nothing is impossible for God.
00:15:27
Speaker
And God working through us, Jesus will tell us soon that nothing will be impossible for us either because we have God in us. So thank you for joining me today. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever you get around ah to watching or listening today's reading.
00:15:47
Speaker
And I will be here right where you are listening or watching. Again, when? That's right, tomorrow. Until then, have a great rest of your day.
