Introduction and Episode Overview

Speaker
Welcome to the Chick Foley Show.
00:00:22
Speaker
What is up, Foley fam? We are back with the latest episode of the Chick Foley show. We're going to do some live figure reviews, talk about SummerSlam and the week that was in professional wrestling. But before we get into all of that, let me introduce the star of the show, Sheena. How you doing? I'm doing good. It feels really nice. We're a little peek behind the curtain. We are recording this on Friday at like 15 to 6. Our evening schedules picked up a lot over the last couple of weeks. Brett's doing football and karate. So we pretty much have something
00:00:50
Speaker
every night of the week and finding time to pod in the evenings with all the hectic bedtime routine, dinner, all that kind of stuff. You're exhausted. Yeah, you're just totally beat. We're fine with about a half a tank right now, whereas when you pod at 9, 10 o'clock, you're unfused. Yes. Our son Brett is at karate right now. He's heated to drop off because he does back-to-back classes on Friday. We had a little window of time. We were like, you just want to knock this out and go for it before tonight. Because anything can happen between ...
00:01:16
Speaker
Bedtime goes sideways. Kids act crazy. Don't want to go to sleep. We're just too beat to do

Family Updates and Apple Processing

it. Why you got the energy? We just cranked up the old laptop and here we are. We're being parents of the year. We got Stella in the master bedroom watching Bluey. Hopefully that keeps her pacified for about 35, 40 minutes of wrestling content we're going to bring you. You may hear her run in from the future women's champ. We'll see how it sounds. We may leave it in.
00:01:44
Speaker
We may edit it out. Depending on the type of run-in that happens. All right. Shane, tell us what's new on

Speaker
the farm. Not a whole lot. I'm actually processing a lot of apples. I'm super stoked. Our apple tree, we didn't plant it, but the people who lived here before us planted three apple trees. This is the first year that we've gotten a really big harvest off of our apple tree. Really cool. It just makes me really think, wouldn't it be cool if everybody out there just planted fruit trees and berry bushes and stuff on their property for
00:02:12
Speaker
future people that live there, you know what I mean? Like you can plant it for yourself. And if you end up moving, like the next generation of people that live there will have like, you know, a bounty of fruit to to enjoy in years to come. So yeah, really super cool. Making lots of applesauce, apple pie filling, dehydrated apple chips, things like that. So that's really what's what's been going on here.
00:02:32
Speaker
Alright, want to remind you guys this show is brought to you by ringside collectibles use code chick Foley to save 10% on all your purchases there the all in sale just kicked off today, you know, that's their sales are incredible. It's a great time if there's stuff you kind of been on the fence on or
00:02:48
Speaker
It's expensive nowadays, dude. So the stuff you've been waiting on, there's some really, really great figures for really great deals already marked down and you can use Code Chick Foley to take an extra 10% off those markdowns. Or if you make some big boy purchases, dude, you can get free shipping if it's over 50 bucks. Ringside, as much as we love them, they're proud of their shipping process.
00:03:09
Speaker
The way ringside gets all the figures so quickly is they airship everything from China, which is extremely expensive. That's the reason why stuff shows up at ringside months before it hits the retail pegs most of the time.

SummerSlam Highlights and Storylines

00:03:21
Speaker
And they have to recoup some of that cost on shipping. So just quick little PSA for our friends at Ringside. If you're ever wondering why their shipping seems so high, that's where they recoup some of that cost. And I think it's a little bit easier doing it like that instead of adding it to the regular sticker price of the figures. Even standard shipping nowadays. Ringside's shipping has always been more than most people. But now especially, the way shipping is, shipping costs have gone up. Somebody that sells a lot on eBay. I used to be able to ship stuff
00:03:49
Speaker
Like my absolute smallest things, I used to be able to ship them for less than $2, and now $4 is the cheapest. If I'm shipping a little one square inch of air, it's costing me four bucks to send it across state lines. Yeah, it's freaking nuts, dude. Shout out to all the small businesses out there. It is what it is. Everything is, hey, gas ain't cheap either, and time, that's the one that you can't buy back. That's why they say time is money, and ringside's definitely saving you time. True.
00:04:16
Speaker
It's a give and take. Yeah, you're getting a little bit for that extra money. All right, Shane, you ready to do, or actually remind them where they can find you on social media. You can find me on Instagram at Chick Foley. Mark will run the Twitter machine at Chick Foley show. You can always join our Foley fam over on Facebook by going to chickfolly.com. It's through Patreon. $2 a month gets you into the best group of marks on the interwebs. So come have fun with us over there and yeah, let's get in and talk some SummerSlam.
00:04:42
Speaker
Alright, so we are just coming out of SummerSlam. We're about a week out from SummerSlam. We're recording this a little bit later again, like we talked about at the top of the show. We've just had a busy week. We were hoping to wait until the end of SmackDown, but as we said earlier, no sense in waiting since we can just record now. So we don't even know what's going to happen on SmackDown tonight.
00:05:00
Speaker
One thing about it, it was also already announced that Roman's going to be on SmackDown again next week, which leads me to believe I don't think we're getting any kind of crazy angle. So the Roman's TV dates, that was another thing that kind of pushed us to go ahead and do this. So he's going to be on SmackDown tonight and next week, but then he's not going to be on until the debut episode of USA. So SmackDown is going to be back on USA here in the coming months. And that's the next time Roman's announced for TV. So I don't think if there's going to be any big Roman angle, I don't think it's going to be until next week.
00:05:29
Speaker
So we're gonna, you know, you guys have already listened to a lot of SummerSlam talk. So we're gonna do a compressed version. No, no shame to the mid card. But you know, I just feel like we're just gonna hit the high points of the matches tonight. So we'll kick it off with Liv Morgan beating Rhea Ripley. And I've just I mean,
00:05:48
Speaker
Incredible turn that we all felt coming but at the same time seeing it play out in real time was just like a little a little jab to the heart so dirty Dom turned on mommy and You know helped helped live Morgan defend her championship. Yeah, what are your thoughts? We called it last week. They kind of you know, it was pretty well telegraphed I wouldn't I don't think anybody should be shocked by it. I still thought it was great though. Oh, yeah predictability Doesn't mean bad very yeah, it's very underrated predictability done. Well is usually satisfying right? I think I think sometimes
00:06:18
Speaker
People confuse predictability with boring but predictability is actually just what makes the most sense for the storyline, right? Yeah I feel like us us people our age we grew up in the attitude era where you would just get nonsensical swerves from swerve sake a lot in WCW until lesser stemmy WWE was pretty You know, they they had a ton of just swerves for the sake of swerves. Also, yeah, what's it like Occam's? Right. What's it called? Occam's razor. Yeah, whatever makes the most sense is that you know, the best thing to do
00:06:46
Speaker
But I thought it was really well done. Dom was already a heel, and he somehow made a double heel turn. He became more of a heel. Rhea Ripley is going to be an incredible baby face. More lovable than ever, yeah. You already saw the wild reaction. Her and Priest, who we'll get to later on, got on Monday night. So I think everybody's going to come out of this as a winner, dude. Yeah, and I think it breathed new life into the Judgment Day, too. Not that they were stale, because they've been doing their thing on Raw.
00:07:14
Speaker
With everything else going on. I feel like Judgment Day has still been a constant like source of entertainment I get the most screen time almost every single week. Yeah, so I feel like um, you know, it just breathe new life It's kind of like, you know with the with the bloodline, right? Like you gotta make some shifts. You gotta make some changes Obviously, I'm not comparing the Judgment Day storyline to the bloodline storyline I mean if you really look back at how much time they've invested it I mean, obviously it's not the bloodline, but it's not as far off as you think right, you know, I don't
00:07:40
Speaker
You could make a case that the Judgment Day has been better booked from start to finish than the Bloodline Day. It's crazy when you could think back to the origins of the Judgment Day. That's what makes you feel like it's been going on for so long. We had Edge at the helm of the Judgment Day, and then he got kicked out by
00:07:58
Speaker
Damien and Rhea, right? And then Finn came along and was like the head of the Judgment Day. But yeah, it's been a wild ride and I'm super excited to see. I love Liv in the Judgment Day. I think it's just such a good fit. And it looks like we're headed toward maybe a mixed tag match at Bash at Berlin between Rhea and Damien with Liv and- I think they're going by the terror twins.
00:08:19
Speaker
Ria and Damian. I think they're the terror twins. I think that's their name. Terror twins. Nice. You know where I see this going long term, if they can stretch it out, and obviously WWE is good at taking a story, making it last. I think WrestleMania, we could see Ria versus Dom. That feels like it's got to be the culmination of this whole thing, right? I called that. I thought WrestleMania would be perfect. I thought maybe we'd see it sooner than then, because I thought it was going to be a direct turn. I didn't know. I didn't really realize the live
00:08:47
Speaker
situation was going to happen because I called it before all of that, before Rhea got hurt, that eventually we were going to see a Rhea versus Dom match. So yeah, I would love that. That definitely feels like a WrestleMania match to me though. But yeah, I think it's great. I'm a big fan of the new Judgment Day. Again, we'll get into them a little bit more here in a little bit. All right, we're going to skip over Braun versus Sammy, LA versus Logan, and Nia versus Bayley. All great matches. I thought everything was- Yeah, all good matches, but there's just not really a whole lot to discuss. Yeah, not a lot of meat on the bone. They were just good matches with the expected outcomes and pretty much all of them.
00:09:17
Speaker
Yeah. What do you think of Tiffy's custom briefcase? Oh, I love it. I thought it would be a little bit more bedazzled. I love that it's got the purse strap and the pink and everything. It's totally Tiffy, but I was hoping for a little bit more bling, but I guess they have to make something that they can replicate.
00:09:34
Speaker
to sell in the merch shop, right? It's going to be great in a figure four. Yeah, they can't make it to, yeah, that'll be the first pink briefcase we've ever had. That'll be super cool. We had Drew McIntyre defeated CM Punk, just an absolute
00:09:49
Speaker
awesome match I thought and uh there was the the the nods to freaking summer slam 97 yeah she was right on the pile last week she said she thought we'd maybe get a couple little links towards it I thought they were going to go full summer slam 97 for that reason I was actually a little bit let down I thought that to me man that the action was good seeing both look great he looks like he's in the best shape he's been in since he came back in 2021 he actually looks like he's seen the inside of the gym in the last uh you know the last six months which is great you know it helps with the believability because if you remember at Royal Rumble
00:10:19
Speaker
Even taking the injury out of account, he didn't look great physically. He was a little slight, yeah. He just didn't look great, and then the offense didn't look great either. You can get by with not having a great look if your offense is crisp, but he just looked sluggish in that level. I thought he looked good. He looked like the old CM Punk that we know.
00:10:37
Speaker
But dude, the bracelet is so dumb to me, dude. The bracelet is dumb. That's like some stuff like eight-year-old girls would fight over, man. I mean, dude, I feel like the reactions are so over the top. I get being annoyed and aggravated by it, but dude, seeing folks reacting, it's like an AJ Lee sex tape or something, dude.
00:10:54
Speaker
Yeah, that's the thing. They've taken it too far. I mean, the relevancy, relevancy, is that a word? The relevancy of it, because you know, like Taylor Swift and like all the friendship bracelet thing, you know what I mean? Like that's, it's a whole cultural thing, right? I enjoyed it as a cool little talent. Yeah. And a little talent where he's got, you know, Larry and AJ's name, or it's just like, you know, God drew, you're like so annoying, right?
00:11:14
Speaker
But we saw on Monday, literally, CM Punk and Seth Rollins were eyeball to eyeball, right? And then Drew's trying to get their attention. He's like, I know what'll get your attention. And he holds up the bracelet. And he's like, you know, your ugly little dog, Larry, and your wife, AJ. And CM Punk just storms out of the ring. Yeah, like Seth said, like, you know, like Drew was holding a sex tape of, yeah, he was about to show on the Jumbotron, right? Like, it's just, it was too much, dude. Yeah. And then I saw, like, uh,
00:11:42
Speaker
The girl that made him that bracelet posted on Twitter, like a picture, and at first kind of looking at it, it was hard to kind of place it timewise, and I was like, oh, well maybe this is like something that a fan gave him, you know, like eight, nine years ago, right? And it's really special to him. But no, this was like a few months ago. He got this thing, dude. Which is fine. I think it's fine. But it's not... I don't think it's... It's not the sentimentality of the bracelet. I don't think that's the thing, right? It's not like it's like an heirloom that he's had in his family. It's just the thought of like,
00:12:10
Speaker
Drew talking about CM Punk's family, right? Because I mean, we all know, I mean, let's be real. The only people that CM Punk cares about probably are Larry and AJ, like in real life. I mean, those are the only two people in his life that he actually loves and cares about. So I don't know. I mean, I think I'm trying not to nitpick it. I think it's fine if you don't think about it too hard, right?
00:12:33
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I felt like this feud had been so well-booked, though, that it was a little bit of a letdown. We saw Seth get wiped out by Bronson Reed on Raw. He got hit by about like 17 tsunamis. And it turns out that Seth is hurt once again. It looks like it's nothing acute.

WWE Wrestler Updates and Future Predictions

00:12:50
Speaker
This has been described as a chronic injury that's going to keep him out for some time. So we know he's at the back. His leg has been wonky for years. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it looks like, you know,
00:13:03
Speaker
That's been my favorite wrestlers since I got back in wrestling in 2014. I think we're firmly shifting into him being just a part-timer, which is fine. He's earned it, dude. Think about it, dude. He has been the workhorse for that company for the last 10 years, dude. I'm pretty sure he's probably wrestled the most matches out of anybody during that time.
00:13:22
Speaker
But it's always sad, right? It's always a little bit bummy when you're just like, you know, I don't know. I think it's because the product looks basically the same as it did, you know, in the last 10 years, like visually, it looks very, very similar. Right. So that's what makes it seem like the time. It hasn't been that. But think about like, Bret Hart's entire singles run in WWE was basically six years, dude. And Rollins has been, you know, had the shield run and now he's been a solo star at the top of the card going on 10 years.
00:13:48
Speaker
But I feel like I mean, I feel like that's just a sign of the times right people have Yeah, people have longer careers and you know that sort of thing nowadays I feel like it's just this was pretty back in like the early 90s This was starting to like put guys out the pasture when they're in like their early 40s And now that's almost like your prime time as a progress. Oh, yeah, come into your own for sure Yeah, that's it. That's a huge bummer But yeah, hopefully shout out to Seth. Hopefully he recovers well and I'll turn my little phone off. Yeah, so I uh, I
00:14:17
Speaker
I don't know. I mean, it looks like this feud is clearly going to continue, but at this point, I wouldn't mind just seeing him go different ways. Maybe we milk it to a Hell in the Cell match at Bad Blood. It's got to be some sort of like grudge situation, right? Where it's like an extreme match. I kind of want to see CM Punk go after Gunther, man. I feel like CM Punk needs to get the belt. I feel like that is as begrudgingly as I hate to say it, because I'm not a CM Punk fan at all. He's definitely been very entertaining and compelling since he came back to WWE.
00:14:43
Speaker
And I feel like him and Goonther would be a pretty dang good feeling. You know, I'm totally not convinced that Randy Orton does not take the title from Goonther, dude. I would not be surprised if Randy Orton doesn't to throw Goonther. See, I see Randy losing a really hard fought match. And, you know, maybe the next week on SmackDown, Cody's trying to like, you know, comfort him a little bit and then we get that RKO out of nowhere. I feel like Randy and Cody is what's going to going to carry us through the fall and the winter in WWE.
00:15:10
Speaker
Yeah, that makes sense, dude. But just seeing them on Monday, I was just like, I don't know. I just felt like, yeah, this could totally, I could totally see WWE, you know. We've said it plenty of times. You're ready to wear the same as Charlotte, dude. Anytime they're in a championship match, no matter what they've been doing, the three or four months prior or what seems like is lined up, you can never, ever count them out in a championship situation.
00:15:30
Speaker
Yeah, I thought it was well done. I thought, I mean, we definitely need this to kind of settle the score from King of the Ring. Yeah. You know, just kind of make it definitive in one way or another. So I'm glad they're just jumping right into Gunther and Randy, because it wouldn't make sense to really draw it out and like do it, you know, several months down the road. And it's a huge match for Bashut Brilliant. Yeah, true. Any more thoughts on Gunther? Yeah, and Damian Priest.
00:15:54
Speaker
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk. Sorry, we were talking about Gunther and it just kind of like, you know. I'm glad CM Punk was able to gather healthy and I'm calling it right now. Seth Rollins' referee will be the builder figure for the SummerSlam Elite set next year. Yeah, jumping ahead, we had a listener male asking what figure we would like to see from SummerSlam. I think that's definitely one that
00:16:17
Speaker
Is gonna be a is gonna be when i posted in the thing i posted in our little live feed i didn't see sparkly jinkos on my twenty twenty four bingo card like that was that was a look for sure.
00:16:30
Speaker
Gunther defeated Damian Priest with the help of Finn Balor. Finn comes out. Again, telegraphed. We all kind of felt it coming. We all knew it was coming and then it happened. We knew he was going to be involved. We didn't know if it was going to be like a botched assist or something like that. I definitely did it. I wasn't convinced Finn was turning.
00:16:48
Speaker
on him at the show. I just thought that the Judgment Day was going to play. They left no doubt. One way or another. Yeah, but you're right. They left no doubt, dude. I thought we could see Judgment Day. Help him win or cost him the match. Obviously, they cost him.
00:17:03
Speaker
I thought the match was great, dude. I thought, as you see a lot of times with guys who have lukewarm title runs, dude, he had his best match ever in the match. He lost the belt, man. He looked great. When he hit that comeback on Gunther, he hit that big kick and the clotheslines, the razor's edge and everything. I thought he was winning the freaking match, dude. He looked awesome. He had 54,000 people behind him.
00:17:28
Speaker
So if just for future picks league picks, just know if somebody has somebody has a big title match and they have a documentary dropping in the next 48 hours, like just go ahead and just pencil them in that they're going to lose that match. I still thought I thought that Linda more like that made me lean. Like maybe he is keeping this thing, dude.
00:17:45
Speaker
Dude, see, that was me. I got suckered into believing that with Roman. When we watched Roman's documentary, I was like, oh, dude, there's no way. They're letting the tribal chief continue to tribal chief. I'm not getting sucked in anymore. I think with the documentary timing, I think they just knew that he was going to be more over than ever as a babyface. He really started out as a heel when he won the belt, and he's just won the crowd over to where they were fully behind him in Cleveland.
00:18:09
Speaker
Saturday night and that documentary is really really cool too. So I definitely recommend Checking it out. But the documentary was really well done. I really can't get mad at Finn dude. Because Damien Priest is kind of son Finn Bower like over and over again. Treating him like a little brother like There's a good picture floating around of him like straight up grabbing Finn Bower by the jaw like shoving him away when something happened with Judgment Day and I gotta be honest if a motherfucker did me like that I'm probably getting my lip back at some point also.
00:18:35
Speaker
I'm not really mad at Finn and end of the day, dude, like his greatest priest is man, Finn Ballard. And if used properly, he could be the top guy I need a raw or SmackDown. And I'm looking forward to where this goes. I thought Finn's promo on Monday night introducing the new judgment day was awesome. Telling priests that, you know, he's going to make him wait till he forgets about it. And then that's when he's going to strike.
00:18:56
Speaker
I thought it was really, really cool. And I'm looking forward to seeing a fully heal Finn Balor on the big show. I mean, in Damien's defense. I mean, Finn had the entire machine behind him from day one when he entered WWE, right? And Damien has been crawling himself from the bottom through his sparkly genes, true religion genes era, where I was just like, what are we doing with Damien Priest? Why is Damien Priest here?
00:19:22
Speaker
and he won me over and has become champion and a viable champion, right? Yeah, Priest is the man, dude. I love some Damien Priest, man. But yeah, Finn, I'm looking at, he needs to get back to where he belongs, man. He had the best first month of anybody ever at WWE. He beat Roman Reigns clean his first night on the main roster, which, I mean, it's less than 10 people that have beat Roman Reigns clean the entire time he's been in WWE. And then he beat Seth clean to win the first ever Universal Championship. Missed his shoulder up.
00:19:49
Speaker
Yeah. And then it seemed like Vince just kind of gave up on him after that. So really excited to see how everything plays out with the Judgment Day over the next couple of months. All right. Moving on to the main event, Bloodline Rules match. Cody Rhodes defeated Solozakoa. We saw the return of the tribal chief, the only tribal chief. What were your thoughts?
00:20:12
Speaker
I thought Solo delivered. Solo's first time in a big spot, dude. Obviously, Solo's not Will Ospreay. He's not Kenny Omega. But I thought Solo more than held his own. And he looked like he belonged. It didn't seem like a joke, right? I think Solo is for sure fringe main eventer now, dude. I think he's comfortably there.
00:20:30
Speaker
He looked good. He looked good, and with the help of Jacob Fatou, I mean, it just really made it seem more legit, right? The new Bloodline's cool, man. It's totally different from the old Bloodline. The old Bloodline was almost like mafia, where it's just new and just like a street gang, dude.
00:20:46
Speaker
Yeah, very cool, man. I thought Cody was awesome, dude. The entrance was incredible, man. I thought Cody's entrance was like, that's one of the best things WWE has done in the last couple of years, man. Showing to come off the bus. Cody planted the seed on Friday by throwing off that Instagram post announcing that it was going to be Pharaoh's last road trip. And so you're kind of waiting for it, dude. And then you get to see him do the long walk with Pharaoh backstage. And then our freaking Anderson is there with like just the coolest freaking pep talk ever, man. It was like
00:21:16
Speaker
I don't know, dude. Orin's just... Orin's really an all-timer on the promos. He's just got a way of talking. It sounded like somebody's grandpa giving him a little pep talk for a baseball game. He told him, you're in a sling tonight. You got the four island boys trying to rough you up. And then he told him, he said, you got some friends that you don't even know about that are on the way. So to me and kayfabe, Orin called up Roman and got Roman back for this match. Yeah.
00:21:38
Speaker
That makes sense. The whole Pharaoh thing was near and dear to my heart. There's nothing like the companionship and the love of a loyal dog. I thought it was so well done. I'm glad Pharaoh... If you haven't heard, Pharaoh's healthy. He's fine. He's just old. Just not a good life for him to be on the road and that sort of thing. I'm glad he's going to get to be home with Brandy and Liberty and just live in a chill existence for the remainder of his days.
00:22:08
Speaker
Yeah, I thought I thought everything was great seeing Roman come back. I am we're gonna it was in our listener mail So we'll go ahead and talk about it. They said why the hell did you know, we we changed the the music and I thought Yeah, I like the new music dude. It was basically the it was Tony Barker Tony Barker said can we talk about why the hell they would change Romans things it was so all it was is they did a studio version of the WrestleMania 40 like the orchestra to me that was the exact same way that they played him out at WrestleMania 40 and
00:22:39
Speaker
with the drum sitting early. I think I have some issues with the, not issues, but more of like quibbles, right? With the execution of Roman coming back. I think, especially considering they were using a new song or, cause it wasn't immediately recognizable who it was, right? You have heard it and you're already expecting it, but then you know, it took the graphic popping up for people to know.
00:23:00
Speaker
I would have had like a lights out situation right the lights go out and then hit the drums you just have the same intro play and let people start to anticipate and then when the regular intro to roman's music hits with the chance and stuff then have the head of the table graphics pop up you know i mean i would let it in the dark and let that intro play.
00:23:17
Speaker
To just really build up to that pop man. I would have just listened I mean for a moment like that I would have just left it the same if they are going to change it change it on Friday You know what I mean when it's like smack down and like people are like, okay Romans gonna be here We're expecting it, but you really wanted to hit that like, you know, the
00:23:32
Speaker
Oh, or it's just like, you know, that first beat and like everybody, I mean, the, the pop was still insane. Like let's be real. Like it was, it was wild. The place lost their freaking mind, but I feel like if it would have been the OG music, it would have been even more insane. Um, so I don't know. I'm not a fan. I loved Romans.

Um, you know, Romans music. I thought it was
00:23:54
Speaker
It's still the same song, it's just got a different intro. But it's so low, it plays underneath the drums. No, no, no. We'll go back and listen to it after the pod. The drums play, it's got this big drum intro and then it still hits the regular old...
00:24:09
Speaker
I heard it playing underneath, so I haven't listened to it on its own. I've only listened to it when I watched SummerSlam. It felt like the drums were there and then there was this drum beat over top and the music, the succession music was playing underneath. It's still basically a remixed version of the original song just with a different intro, but we'll listen to it after.
00:24:30
Speaker
But yeah, I think going lights out and letting that... Because I do like that new intro, but let it play and then have the head of the table graphics pop up once everybody knows it's Roman freaking Reigns, man.
00:24:40
Speaker
Yeah. Um, and that is a SummerSlam. I do love that it was in a stadium. I love that it was just like, you know, we got to see like this outside daytime wrestling is just premier dude. I feel like it just looks so good, especially, you know, you had Rhea and Liv kick off the show out in the daylight. It was just a beautiful sunset match. You know, Seth Drew and punk was the sunset. Yeah. I love that dude.
00:25:01
Speaker
Lights still out and then it just the light fades and the great thing about the stadium shows You get to see like the neon lights just kind of fading into the blue and purple sky. Yeah, beautiful man. I That's what makes WrestleMania 31 so great. Yeah, the fact that the main event started out on the west coast It was still like a little bit light out while Roman and Brock make their entrances Yeah, both are I mean both the Wrestle manias that we went to were you know open air like yeah, but 33 was on the west coast like it was dark by the third match of the show and
00:25:27
Speaker
Oh, that's true. But it was still so hot. West Coast SummerSlam was awesome. Where do you think this leaves Cody with Roman coming back? Is Cody just bulletproof or do you think his spot's at risk? I feel like he's definitely the number two baby finish right now. His spot's at risk. I don't think Roman is immediately going to be back in the title. I think it's going to be Roman versus the bloodline. We obviously want to see Roman versus Jacob by two. We have some meat left on the bone to give Cody some time to get his
00:25:56
Speaker
to get his thoughts together before. Cody needs to get away from the bloodline for about five or six months to come back around WrestleMania or World War II. Yeah, I think we'll see The Rock come back in and then that'll kind of just tie everybody back together. But yeah, I agree. I think we need some space from Cody.
00:26:09
Speaker
the bloodline and let Roman come back in and feed that bloodline storyline. What were your overall thoughts on SummerSlam this year? I was sports entertained, dude. I thought a lot of people were like, oh, the card isn't looking that great and that kind of stuff. It looks very predictable, but I thought it was awesome. I thought the timing of the matches was great. Nothing felt like it lagged. We got to see the freaking tribal chief.
00:26:30
Speaker
It was too enthusiastic. It was a really great summer slam, definitely in probably the top third of summer slams all time. I think the thing it's going to suffer from, it doesn't have that one straight up money match that you're going to go back over and over and watch. But to me, it does got two moments that I'll seek out time and time again watching. That's Cody's entrance and Roman coming back.
00:26:50
Speaker
If you have two all-timer moments on a show, I think it's definitely a win and I think everybody involved should be happy. Like Sheena said, there wasn't a bad performance at all on the show. Even Jelly Roll did good. Dude, Jelly Roll has the best choke slam in WWE, dude. He had an awesome choke slam. Everybody was groaning that we were starting off with a Jelly Roll performance, but he brought the heat, dude. It was not hardy at the Royal Rumble, dude.
00:27:13
Speaker
He had performing his song, Why? It was a badass performance and the crowd was fired up too. I think if you're going to do a concert like that, I think it does need to be at the start of the show because the Cleveland crowd being into it and clapping along and dancing in the stands added a lot.

Action Figure Reviews and Discussions

00:27:27
Speaker
Whereas if you have it, three and a half hours deep into it, you're just dead. Mid-show concerts are a no-go. Kicking it off with some music. Yes, I'm here for that, dude. Everybody's still getting in their seats, getting their bad dogs. They mixed in some footage of the WWE Superstar.
00:27:40
Speaker
Yeah, it was great, dude. But yeah, if you're going to throw a freakin' hardy in before the main event or something, I'm like, dude. I drunk off his ass hardy and sold out. Get out of here. Hardy's not the greatest singer ever to begin with, you know what I mean? He's a good singer, dude, but he's not like a known, he's not an all-time vocalist, dude. He's a songwriter above all else, dude, so yeah. Anyway, SummerSlam was great. Two thumbs up. All right, let's get into some figure talk.
00:28:26
Speaker
All right, it's time for the figure four where we give you guys the latest and greatest in wrestling who's going to remind you this segment and this podcast is brought to you by ringside collectibles use code chick Foley to save 10% at ringside.
00:28:37
Speaker
All right, we have Elite Series 112. We just got it in the mail from Ringside. Some great figures. It is an odd choice of a set. It's just kind of like a mixed bag. Let's go through the individual figures and we'll do the set as a whole. All right. So we'll start off with I think the headliner of the set, JD McDonough, first time in the line.
00:28:56
Speaker
Yeah, dude, we needed him. Well, he didn't really complete our Judgment Day because we still have to get Carlito, but... And our truth. We need Judgment Day, our truth. We need a Judgment Day, our truth with the t-shirt. You're absolutely right. But he completes the foundations, the pillars of the Judgment Day. So yeah, great. It looks awesome. Seth has this set up in our office in one of our figure display boxes and adding JD was just like, you know,
00:29:21
Speaker
Definitely the highlight of the set. Yeah. What do you think, what are your thoughts on the removable hair gimmicks? He comes with the man bun and then he's got a hair down. What do you think? I don't hate it. I mean, to me, it doesn't look any different than if it was like just molded on hair. You know what I mean? I just want these things to hold up over time. Right. That's the biggest concern.
00:29:40
Speaker
the Mattel's have released, they've kind of broken down over time to where like, they would get loose, right? I could see a scenario where like over, you know, if you're gonna have this thing, five, six, seven years, like, eventually the hair kind of like loses its shape a little bit and looks almost like loose on the head. True. Yeah, I mean, once you start to do that, you're gonna have to just hit it with the blue and go go full permanent.
00:30:00
Speaker
Yeah, assuming that there's no degradation issues, though, I kind of like it. It gives you two different looks, so I have to do two different head sculpts. Yeah, and it doesn't look bad. It could have had to set up off of it, but I mean, if you didn't tell me that hair was removable, I wouldn't know. So it's not like it. But with the hair removed, that's straight up nightmare fuel. That is nightmare fuel. Yeah, take a look at your figure. If you get this JD McDonough tape, remove the hair and just look at that. It's just unsettling. Yeah, it's like, I won't even say what it looks like.
00:30:29
Speaker
Next up in the set we got Seth freaking Rollins with the all blonde like trailer trash trailer trash Tammy hair. Got the world heavyweight title. I mean, it's great. Obviously all set figures are great. He's got the the pinstripe black and gold pants with like the
00:30:47
Speaker
These were his fiend tribute pants. This was shortly after Bray Wyatt passed, and he did those pinstripes as a tribute to Bray. This was when he fought Nakamura last year. It's a great looking Seth. I feel like we've gotten three or four Seths that look strikingly similar to this one. He does come with the World Heavyweight Championship with regular generic WWE side plates. I know there have been a big criticism from folks that
00:31:09
Speaker
They didn't have any just basic plates or titles. Oh yeah, the first one they released had the Seth side plates and people didn't like that. They liked the generics and didn't go on anybody, but yeah, very cool. Very cool figure. Yeah, but like Seth said, just not anything that you're just like, holy crap, I'm so glad this filled a hole in my collection. We got first time in the line Channing Stacks Lorenzo. The soft goods on this don't look great, dude. It definitely should have been a molded situation. The jacket is just
00:31:37
Speaker
They tried they tried I feel like they I feel like people complain so much about soft goods over the years that That they just want but think if like you say look at the picture of him on the back of the box if they would have done a molded jacket that look like that yeah, it would have made this figure look way cooler because it just looks almost like a Straight jacket type situation. Yeah, it's a little bit too big as most soft goods jackets are I mean, I can't even imagine how hard it is like get you know, so these things for this size figures, but I
00:32:01
Speaker
Still a nice-looking figure. The head skull, the way they did his hair looks really, really great. The hair looks great. He's going to look great up next year, Tony D'Angelo. If you're an NXT fan, this is a must-have. I think just another weird choice when you have other people like Trick Williams and Oba Femi, who I think people are clamoring for much more for their first time in the line, NXT figures that Channing got one. We just had Tony D'Angelo a couple of sets back, so he does make sense. Yeah.
00:32:25
Speaker
Next, we have Xavier Woods. I mean, it's a cool looking figure. I love the colorway. It's like, you know, turquoise with like these flowers. I forget what kind of flowers those are. Maybe the first time we've had a double nose pierced figure in the line.
00:32:41
Speaker
Oh my goodness. Yeah, I didn't even notice he's a double figure. I just same thing with the rest of these I just don't know who is who is banging on the door for a Xavier. Yeah, especially since there's like yeah, solo Xavier since especially since there's not like any, you know, I don't we're not getting like all three new day figures, right? So this was after Big E was gone. Let me check because there's there's so many lines now that to be honest You guys know how hardcore I am into the figure game. It's honestly it's difficult even this is when they defeated them the Viking Raiders Let me see if there's the matching Kofi
00:33:10
Speaker
Reminding the WWE, you know, I mean it says the new day return. So I mean Kofi was there Yeah, but we are Kofi the matching Kofi's gonna be an elite 13. He's right there and that's nice. So that is gonna be a nice Yeah, so yeah, the colors are awesome on that The Xavier just kind of got elevated to me a little bit because that Kofi looks really nice and they're gonna look dope next to each other
00:33:28
Speaker
Yeah, the great looking figure is gonna be a great looking set. This is really cool. I love this like bright yellow and green. It's like X-Men. Yeah, X-Men style Becky. I love what they did with her hair. I don't really remember her hair being like this. That was from Money in the Bank 2023. Super, super bright up top at the roots and then just kind of like naturally red down at the bottom. Super cool though. I think this might be the longest hair Becky that we have. We got a picture of her in the back. Look, right there. Oh yeah. Look at that.
00:33:56
Speaker
Yeah, but see, it's more blonde. It's not red. So you got to remember when they're making these, they're kind of going off photos. And you can see the photo on the back of the box does show. She's definitely got like some light. I see it. But yeah, I was thinking it's probably more of just the lighting in the arena than her actual hair, though.
00:34:12
Speaker
No, she definitely does have highlights up there at the top, but it's orange. It looks weird on the figure because it should be blonde versus... Listen to me on the tip, dude. Anytime they put a paint wash on the hair, I'm always happy. I feel like that really sets them off. And it's different because, like I said, she's got the extensions in this and this is definitely the longest hair that we've got on Becky. It's a unique Becky, dude. Becky is my favorite women's wrestler, so I have just a metric butt ton of Becky figures.
00:34:37
Speaker
If you're needing to add a good Becky in your collection, you could do much worse than this one. It's a really, really nice figure. And she's our daughter's favorite wrestler too. So Stella is getting this figure. She's going to be so, so excited.
00:34:50
Speaker
Um, last but certainly not least, we got a new Bray Wyatt, uh, comes with the lamp. This is from the, uh, the ultimate deletion match or whatever. Yeah. The ultimate deletion match he had with Matt Hardy back in, uh, 2019. So this is a figure five years of the nation was only in 2019.
00:35:09
Speaker
Maybe it's 2018. Yeah, it was 2018. So you're right. So six years ago, this is a figure six years in the making because back in the ill-fated Epic Moments line that was a Toys R Us exclusive, remember that's where we had the Festival of Friendship, the Undisputed Era, the Milkomania sets.
00:35:24
Speaker
This was, it was going to be him and Matt Hardy with the, not the lawnmower. That was, it was gonna have the drone, the, the dilapidated boat, all that stuff. We ended up getting the boat. Yeah, we got the Matt Hardy and the network spotlight line to target, but we never got this Bray.
00:35:42
Speaker
And he was going to come out in, I want to say the greatest hits line last year, but they delayed it after his untimely passing. So this is the first break we got. Really great break. If you need a break from this time period, it's probably the best one, man. Yeah, I love the detail on the pants. Double jointed elbows. It's got the buckles and the rivets and everything on the pants. Really, really cool to configure, dude. I'm excited to get my two most wanted braids. I can't wait to get that Ultimate Edition from the Blacklight match with
00:36:11
Speaker
with L.A. night, you know, his last match and then just a break from from his return. You know, when he came back in extreme rules, man, it's going to be so freaking cool. So.
00:36:20
Speaker
Yeah, really nice set. I would say that I think this has a chance to be a serious peg warming set. There's not... The JD McDonough, I expect it to sell pretty good, but the rest of these... I think this could be one of those sets kind of like Elite 87 that just lives at retail for like years. I don't know. I mean, I feel like people are gonna... I feel like the braids are gonna go, dude. I feel like people are really nostalgic for braids since his passing. So I think that those will go...
00:36:46
Speaker
I mean, little kids love Seth figures, man. You know what I mean? It's a great looking figure, dude. Seth is great. I don't know. Maybe it seems a little bit more positive than I am. Again, not a bad figure on the set. Just a kind of a weird one.

Listener Questions and Final Thoughts

00:37:01
Speaker
If you look at the entirety, there's typically one or two straight up like can't miss, almost like anchors of the set. I assume that's what they're thinking, Seth and Becky are going to be for this one.
00:37:11
Speaker
But yeah, but it's in stock right now at ringside. I think everything except Bray is in stock. Bray's on backorder, but I'm sure they'll have him in shortly. So definitely hit it up. Sheena, we got some listener mail. Oh, yeah.
00:37:35
Speaker
All right. We already talked about Tony Barker's question about Roman's music. Tony also asks, did anyone catch any of the pre-show? And if so, what were your thoughts? I only saw the last hour, but really enjoyed the more sporty presentation. It was cool. So they did a three-hour pre-show this year. I mean, it's definitely not must-see without the matches anymore. And obviously three hours is a long time. It's a long time. I don't think anybody's in there, but it's totally fun to just throw on, have it playing in the background while you're doing stuff around the house, getting ready for the
00:38:00
Speaker
Yeah, because you had the countdowns with all the SummerSlam moments and stuff like that, which I thought was really cool. Different little interviews and stuff. Different interviews. Set that a really good interview out there. Yeah, it was good. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say it's something that I would expect anybody to sit down and watch every second. Yeah, you're not just going to plop on the couch and just watch the whole thing, but like Sessa said, just having it playing around the house in the background while you're just getting ready for SummerSlam, it really sets the mood, gets you going, and I love the countdown.
00:38:29
Speaker
Zach Hertzler, if you could change one outcome from this year's SummerSlam, what would it be? I would have had Priest beat that bitch, Gunther. Yeah, you were pulling for Priest. At first, you were pulling for Gunther and then you kind of had a change of heart. I'm not rooting for any foreigners over any Americans for now on. I think I'm at a point where I'm like, yeah, I'm American first, dude. An election year, how appropriate. Zach Hertzler said, any wrestler's attire from SummerSlam you would want to see in figure form.
00:38:55
Speaker
We already talked about Seth. We need an elite or an ultimate Roman streetwear. And this would be a perfect one, dude. Give us Roman. He had the trophy room. Jordan won low tops on. Give us this Roman in elite form. At least. I'd be cool with getting him in ultimate also. Give us three or four different t-shirts with him and you can make an ultimate Roman streetwear. That's been such a defining look during this whole Tribal Chief run. The joggers with the sneakers and the t-shirts, man. Let's make it happen.
00:39:20
Speaker
Yeah, we need an ultimate Cody and Pharaoh. Yeah, that would hit. Mattel Creations. Yeah, or Mattel Creations. It needs to have Pharaoh. It needs to have the skull helmet and the jacket. I don't think you need that, dude. I would take it. So I'm putting my business hat on. Because we're going to get Cody, because they're definitely going to mold that skull jacket for WrestleMania, which means we're definitely getting it for SummerSlam also. That way they can get their money back on that mold.
00:39:45
Speaker
Give me Cody with the little track jacket that he had on backstage. Oh yeah. Give me ultimate Cody with his in-ring gear and the jacket and the mask and give me... Mattel Creations. Let's go Mattel Creations. Give me Cody with the track jacket.
00:40:01
Speaker
with Farrah with the leash and old man, Arne Anderson in the street. And if you want to throw a crowdfund kicker on there, let's get Cody's bust, dude, in scale, man. Cody's wrecking bust, dude. Because that's been a part of SummerSlam and the build to WrestleMania when you got to jump by the rock. Yeah, are we getting Arne with or without Glock?
00:40:18
Speaker
Is he gonna have his gun on him or not? Yeah, maybe give us some gun for a little nod. For a little nod. But yeah, so that's who I would have. I think we definitely need to pay homage to Pharaoh for sure.
00:40:37
Speaker
All right, that's it for this week's episode of the Chick Foley show. Thank you guys for joining us on this impromptu afternoon recording. Yeah, it's funny. We just had a run-in from the Future Women's Champion. She just ran across. She said about something because she ran through, but she saw us putting her fingers to her lips, so she was at least good enough to keep quiet. Normally, when she does her run-off gimmick, she's screaming at the top of her lungs also. Yeah, so she did good. All right, she hit us with some closing thoughts, and we'll get out of here. Welcome back, Tribal Chief.
00:41:04
Speaker
Bye!
