Before getting into the entrepreneurship wagon, Imani was in the corporate space in the fashion industry. She felt she wasn’t getting what she wanted from the job and needed to spend time with her family. Her business started making more than her corporate job was paying her, and she decided to make the bold move. According to Imani, you can run a business and still be in full-time employment. It’s all determinant of what you need.

I've been doing tarot, astrology, and Reiki for the past three years.

I started at the beginning of the pandemic.

I was originally working in fashion, which is something that I still love to do.

It was just something that started more as a hobby.

And it was so interesting because I got my first tarot deck on Halloween.

Like it literally came in the mail on Halloween.

And I really just started practicing and using it as a self-care tool for myself.

I also started to practice on a lot of people virtually since we were in the pandemic.

I went on my Twitter and just reached out to anyone that was looking for free readings and a few people reached out.

So that's something that was really cool.

For my education, I went to UC Davis and I majored in gender sexuality and women's studies with a minor in theater.

Yeah, so I feel like at first it was something I was really interested in watching.

So I was watching a lot of like YouTube pick a card readings.

And that's what like really got me interested in wanting to practice around myself because it was something where...

I these people didn't know who I was they knew nothing about me and the fact that like I was aligned to go to this specific video to watch this card reading really got me excited and I just felt like learning more about tarot found like it was a way that I was able to connect with people in a way that I didn't really realize before and so I feel like it was a nice way not only to tap into my own energy but also be able to help other people discover their own powers as well too.

I feel like I was always able to just manifest things very easily if I just kind of like focused on it.

Something else that's really interesting is my grandfather.

But we never really connected through that at first until like I really got into it.

And then I started kind of asking him more questions and things like that.

So I think it's interesting that it does feel generational, even though we didn't really discuss it beforehand.

Well, I find it interesting because whenever you speak with people that have disabilities, there's always a family member that also kind of shares that same ability.

Did you ever feel like there was, did you feel welcomed by family and friends or judged because you had such spiritual abilities?

Yeah, I feel like at first it was like kind of difficult, especially because I feel like I took like a 360 like I was working a corporate job.

I was working in fashion.

Everything was very much focused on profit and money and.

kind of things that could be considered maybe vain in a sense.

And so to go for something like that into something that's completely different and more like inner work, I feel like a lot of people, you know, maybe we're a little bit confused why I decided to make this change.

But I do feel like once people really like heard me out, I feel like a lot of people were very like understanding and very supportive.

I also do feel like since I moved to San Francisco, I have really found a lot of people that are just not only like very accepting, but also willing to try it.

I feel like people are actually like, OK, like I'm down to get a reading, even if I've never had one.

And so I feel like that's like really cool, like seeing how open people are, too.

So like, you kind of went on this journey of like shifting and diving into this new space.

And then kind of do you feel like when you were really connected to like the spiritual awakening, let's, let's call it that for, you know,

other terms and uh when you were 25 do you feel like it kind of like made you tether back of like oh maybe i've been like this my whole life and then so like during those moments like what were the spiritual foundations that you feel like you have from your childhood or from family or you know even like society that have helped influence your spiritual path or have you come to this place

So I feel like one of the biggest things is my grandma and like my mom grew up Catholic, but I feel like they didn't, you know, they were open to it.

And I just felt like the way I grew up, it was very like open.

It was always like, you know, we believe there is a God, but it's more important to be focused on, you know, treating people well or being kind.

And so it was more about like morals and ethics.

I felt like that made me like be able to be more open when it comes to other religions.

And so I feel like when it comes to other people, I'm always like interested in what they believe and what their religions and like how religions are similar to each other or different.

And so I feel like it made me be a little bit more open.

I do feel like if I maybe had came from a more religious background, it might have been harder for me to want to dive more in or be more curious.

And so I feel like that curiosity like really came from

me being a kid and my parents being like, you know, kind of allowing me to believe what I want to believe instead of feeling like they have to kind of force or guide in a sense.

I think having that space growing up made you open to discovering these abilities about yourself, these gifts.

Yeah, I just kind of wanted to ask you a little bit more about, you've mentioned about going from a corporate job and doing this, you know, going through this path of being an entrepreneur, right?

I just, you know, because I feel like a lot of people that are listening to us, you might find themselves in that same space.

different calling or higher calling however you might want to call it but how was the leap from that corporate job to what you do today like what happened in between because i'm assuming it wasn't overnight so if i don't know if you if you feel comfortable sharing what did you do what happened how did you transition yeah

Yeah, so it was actually a very difficult transition because a lot of things were happening in that point, especially in my personal life that made it.

It almost forced me to get out of my corporate job because it just made me realize that.

that I just wasn't gaining what I wanted from it.

And I wanted to be able to have more time.

I wanted to be able to spend time with my family and focus more on things that really mattered to me.

I feel like the biggest thing that made me realize that I wanted to focus more on my business is when I...

And then I also just realized the treatment that I was receiving at my corporate job just wasn't...

And it's not something that's easy.

I feel like a lot of people see and they're like, oh, I wish I could just have my own business.

But it's constantly promoting.

It's constantly marketing.

You're doing all the parts all the time.

Not only am I a tarot reader, I'm also, you know, running my website.

And so there's so many different things that I feel like people don't

But I do feel like if you do want to make that change, I feel like it is something that's so worth it.

And also something that I would recommend to a lot of people is knowing that it's okay to do both.
Understanding Tarot and Oracle Cards

Like you can do like a full-time job or even like a part-time job in corporate and still do things that you want.

Um, and knowing that you can have both because I feel like a lot of times people make it seem like you have to do this or you have to do that and kind of make people choose.

And another thing I did want to mention is I actually did enjoy having the structure of corporate.

It just was not with that specific company.

And so I think that's another thing is like just knowing what's right for you and also knowing that you're able to have both, I feel like is the biggest thing.

Yeah, so when it came to tarot, it's definitely self-study.

I didn't take any workshops, classes or anything like that.

When it came to astrology, I did take a few classes and things like that, which I feel like were very helpful.

When it comes to like how I recommend people learn tarot, I feel like it is a lot of just preponderance.

And also just finding a guidebook or a book that you really resonate with, I feel like is super helpful.

I feel like the main one people come to is for the tarot reading.

With the tarot reading, people are able to ask a question.

And then people, usually the one question I do ask is what is someone's zodiac sign or astrology sign?

This can be helpful to not only connect with their energy, but sometimes when a lot of cards can come up.

Then after that, I usually pull depending on how long the reading is.

one of the number one questions that I get, even from people that have gotten their readings so many times, because not every tarot reader uses oracle cards.

So when it comes to the tarot cards, no matter what deck you get, there are 78 cards and they're made up of the minor arcana and the major arcana.

So no matter what the imagery looks like or everything like that, there's a set number of cards.

When it comes to oracle cards, there's no set number.

For example, today I have in front of me the herbal astrology oracle.

So it talks about herbs and astrology and kind of combines them together.

But I also have other oracle cards that are more like affirmations, other oracle cards that are maybe more focused on astrology or other things like that.

So when I leave to the whole tarot reading, there's so many things that are said, there's so many things that people are left with.

So I feel like the two things usually are always career related.

Um, so people either wanting to know if they should make a change within their career, that's the biggest one.

is the most thing that people usually ask about and sometimes it is about like future relationships or when you're going to meet someone or how they're going to be or what people are manifesting and so usually it is about past people just because I feel like a lot of times people don't get the closure that they want and so sometimes I feel like they're seeking that through a reading.

I think what sometimes is difficult, especially when it comes to maybe like love readings is when sometimes people can be so adamant that they are meant to be with this person.

And so sometimes I think it is really hard when the cards are saying one thing and I'm presenting them, you know, in a very open and honest way.
