Introduction to FC Bournemouth Podcast

00:00:10
AFC Bournemouth
Hi everyone, welcome back to your daily FC Bournemouth podcast with me, one of your hosts, Luke Burrows. And in today's episode, we are continuing with the build-up to the game on the weekend against Brighton.

Preview of Bournemouth vs Brighton Game

00:00:24
AFC Bournemouth
and going to be looking as we normally do and started doing over probably the last couple of months, looking at previous matches between the two teams. I will give my score prediction and stuff towards the end because I haven't actually done that yet. And I will share some players, a list of players that have played four both right and bo so that for everybody,
00:00:52
AFC Bournemouth
Let's dive into it. So let's start with previous

Bournemouth and Brighton: A Historical Overview

00:00:59
AFC Bournemouth
games. So both teams actually have that have a history of being in the lower leagues of the English football pyramid and being very, very close to going out of business and now being in the Premier League, you know, and obviously from a Brighton perspective doing really, really well at the top of the league and Bournemouth obviously dropped down to the championship a couple of seasons ago bouncing back new new manager last season establishing a new style of play, new owner of course and stuff and a building and probably yeah look to emulate or in their own way, you know, do what Brighton are doing. But yeah, you know, I think that what Brighton are doing
00:01:47
AFC Bournemouth
from from any club is inspirational on some level. Anyhow, getting back to the the main point out point of this first segment is previous matches. So teams, both teams have played you know quite a lot of games between each other, going back all the way to the 15th of December 1923. And actually Bournemouth's record against Brighton is Games 1.45 Games lost 42, so they are a little bit superior by three in that regard. And games drawn 29. So they do have the upper hand there.

Recent Match Results

00:02:25
AFC Bournemouth
But let's take a look back to a couple of games of last season, where they this is Bournemouth, this is the Cherries, won 3-0 in the latest game in the Premier League, 28th of April that was.
00:02:40
AFC Bournemouth
and and you know, a very good win, a very good performance with getting on the score sheet, you know, and Clive, uh, rounding things off on a very good day at the 87th minute. Now the game before that, or actually the few games before that, it wasn't as rosy. free defeats on the spin. So a free one defeat, a two nil defeat, and a one nil defeat. We then have to go back to 2020, the 21st of Jan for
00:03:13
AFC Bournemouth
Bournemouth again also interestingly at home to win 3-1 against the seagulls and then yeah you know we go back all the way to 2018 it's kind of like we win one and then the seagulls win one you know and so the last draw actually we get yeah the first of January 2018 2-2 draw which was away at Brighton so obviously this game is away as well. There's one, so there's only one FA Cup game within that time period that I've just shared there, which was on the 5th of January 2019 and we actually lost that game in the FA Cup.

Bournemouth's Winning Streaks

00:03:56
AFC Bournemouth
Mark Pugh got on the score sheet for us, but for Brighton and Chris Hughton was in charge then. He had Anthony Knockhart, Persuma and Donate all scoring and they were 2-0 at that time.
00:04:11
AFC Bournemouth
have time so disappointing day that day but yeah it's it's interesting it's interesting the that you know the last couple of games only the the one draw and apart from that you know it's like i mean you have that spell mostly in 2023 where couldn't buy a win against against brighten our probably most dominant spell actually span over
00:04:40
AFC Bournemouth
10 games from the 9th of October 2010 to the 22nd of December 2018 where we did not lose a game against them you know so you have four draws in there and the rest wins you know this does drop down to lead to the league championship or EFL I should say or EFL championship I should say and also league one so as I said there long history between the two teams throughout the order divisions within the English League football pyramid. So interesting game. That's a little bit of a history between the two sides, are a little bit of a head-to-head history. It would have been great to have Donald Vicky who probably actually went to a lot of these games to give us kind of more of an atmosphere kind of report of what the atmosphere was like or has been like between these two games. Obviously that cannot happen today. yeah, if you've been to one of these games from a warm side or a bright inside, then do
00:05:38
AFC Bournemouth
contact us over on the ground and we'd love to hear your thoughts on kind of um um show your experience on what the atmosphere was or has been like at these games. But yeah, let's take a quick break and we'll be right back.

Players for Both Clubs

00:06:03
AFC Bournemouth
Okay. Hi, everyone. Welcome back to the podcast and In this episode, we are taking a look at the but game on the weekend, which I'm looking forward to, looking forward to having Premier League action, Premier League football back. So in the first segment, we took a little bit of a look our head to head between these two games in this segment, players that have played for both sides. So one of the obvious ones that stands out for me, and I was trying to find the lists
00:06:38
AFC Bournemouth
say that so that could kind of share all of them with you. the first one that can stand out for me is Tommy Elphick, who played for both Bournemouth and Brighton. And we actually bought him from Brighton, so he played for Brighton 2005-12.
00:07:04
AFC Bournemouth
then obviously for us 12 to 16 before moving on to Villa. So he's one that stands out.
00:07:13
AFC Bournemouth
Another one that stands out is Glenn Murray who played for Bournemouth 2008 to 2011 and again 2016 to 2021, played for us between 15 and 17, much more successful in bright and colours. That's probably fair to say and I'm sure that he would
00:07:38
AFC Bournemouth
that he would agree with with me.
00:07:47
AFC Bournemouth
We also have, this this goes back to kind of 2010, kind of 2013 time, I hope you don't get his name right, Marcus Pinter, who played on loan for Bournemouth in 2010 and was loaned to Bournemouth in 2013, I believe. So this is interesting. I'm not actually familiar. He's also played the Swansea Portsmouth as well.
00:08:23
AFC Bournemouth
But yeah, and then was loaned to us. I only played the two games apparently in in in the league. And then, so other players who have played for both teams. so you know, if you're my age in your mid 20s, then you probably won't know many of these people, because I sure don't. Steve Foster played for Bournemouth between 1979 and 84 and then 92 and 95. So he played for Brighton then, but then also played for us.
00:08:57
AFC Bournemouth
Just trying to find a date.
00:09:00
AFC Bournemouth
Oh no, he didn't pay for us, he paid just paid for Brian. Sorry about that guys, that's an incorrect error on my list.
00:09:14
AFC Bournemouth
Incorrect error on my list there for some reason. So yeah, but Marcus Painter did play for both clubs, so did Glen Murray, and so did Tommy Alfigg.

Corrections on Player History

00:09:23
AFC Bournemouth
and then I'm just trying to find who else did.
00:09:26
AFC Bournemouth
oh
00:09:29
AFC Bournemouth
jimmy case so Jimmy Case, a former, more of a Brighton legend, played for the seagulls in a successful FA Cup run. I think it was like the 80s and then had a short spell with us, Brighton, later on. And then from my research, there wasn't many others that played for both teams maybe I'm missing a load. So if, if, do call me out over on, the gram, do, do call me out because I'm not too hot on this on this topic, but a few there. So, and obviously some, some recent ones with Murray and Alpha don't, most people, and this is probably going to know, and obviously Tommy Alpha was very important in success, success for
00:10:17
AFC Bournemouth
back-to-back promotion runs and a very key pair before moving on to Villa. So to wrap this episode up, I'm going to next share my school predictions for the game

Predictions for Weekend Game

AFC Bournemouth
OK, guys, so to wrap this one up, I'm going to give my score prediction for the game on the weekend, which is a 3pm kickoff on tu tomorrow, on Saturday. Going into this game, Brighton are 6th and we are 12th. There's only four points separating. So if we win, then we're really going to move up the table and look to get into that. Hopefully, fingers crossed is what Vic and maybe Dom, but definitely Vic predicted.
00:11:45
AFC Bournemouth
European place finish this season, 7th, 8th, maybe 9th as well, although I'm not sure that I'll get European football, but anyway, very tight in that kind of, after the, well even going into the top four to be honest is also very, very, very tight. But in terms of this game, not quite sure on kind of team news and that at the moment at the time of recording this podcast, so do you forgive me on that front,
00:12:12
AFC Bournemouth
Although we do know that Areo has had surgery, so he won't be featuring. so we'll wait to see on Areo this press conference what kind of comes out of that. But school prediction, I'm actually going to go a draw. I know in the first segment, looking back, not very many draws between these two teams. I think in this game, that will be it will be a draw. And I think that it will be a 2-2 draw for VC goals and the cherries. And from a goal scorer,
00:12:40
AFC Bournemouth
perspective. so That's interesting. I'm going to go Evangerson and Semenyo. Evangerson's starting to find a scoring boot and Semenyo has been excellent this season so far. So that's my prediction from a Brighton perspective. I'm not quite sure on their availability of players or lineup or whatever. but I reckon Powell Giao Pedro will get on the score. She obviously scored in the win over city and Danny well then I think would also score. So thank you for tuning into this episode, broadcast Friday of the daily Bournemouth podcast by GSPN hit that subscribe button. and I look forward to talking to you guys in the next episode. Hopefully not a solo episode and I'll be joined by Vic or Dom.
00:13:35
AFC Bournemouth
or maybe even both of them. Let's wait and see.
