First we have the man who is dealing with a foot surgery coming up Sean Mason. How you feeling sir? I'm doing all right. can't Can't complain other than the foot. But, um you know, weather's getting nice here in Massachusetts.
00:00:54
Speaker
There's only about 30 days of school left. 30 school days left. Not non actual calendar days, but 30 school days left. i Getting ready, you know. It's going to be the summer of gaming once again.
00:01:06
Speaker
can't wait. Heck yeah.

Podcast Growth and Audience Engagement

00:01:09
Speaker
And last but not least, we have the master of graphics, the man who have almost fell asleep in the sauna and missed the podcast. Hodge, how you doing? I'm doing good. i find it so funny that me and Sean are like opposite career things where he gets the summers off the game and summer is the busiest time of the year for me working in HVAC. And yeah, so it's funny that my gaming will be limited during the summer, but Happy to be here.
00:01:36
Speaker
Happy to talk video games, as always. Yeah, it's funny. like Summer is peak gaming time for me, whereas winter is like not the gaming time for me because i'm coaching basketball, and I'm there until 6.30, 7 o'clock every night.
00:01:49
Speaker
yeah Yeah, summer is also hell for me as ah as a property claims adjuster because that's when all the big storms come through in the summer. You get all the hailstorms, which is weird since it's summer, but that's when it happens.
00:02:01
Speaker
um You get all the crazy windstorms, the hurricanes start coming through. Like, yeah, it's it's fucked. The winter is like when it's slow. But ah all right. Well, this is Games Over Plastic.
00:02:13
Speaker
Like I said, it comes to you live every other Monday. We're also doing The Last of Us spoiler cast on Tuesdays, most if not every week. So make sure you check that out. It's been a lot of fun.

So your write-in might actually appear like four weeks later. So just, ah you know, you got to stay on your toes. Just because you didn't make the next episode doesn't mean your write-in was ignored.
00:03:34
Speaker
So pay attention. You might be on. But we love and appreciate you all. And with all that being said, let's go ahead and get into some fun gaming stuff, shall we? We shall.
00:03:46
Speaker
I just want to point out, by the way, you see, I got Easter Bucky back there. Oh, yeah. Easter Bucky, Sean, just for you, baby. He's he's there. he's He's rooting on your success and your recovery

Nostalgia: Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards

00:03:57
Speaker
for your ah surgery. all right. Easter Bucky. He's with you. Well, I hope we you know they just amputate my foot done. Screw it.
00:04:03
Speaker
Amputate it. That's how much I hate Bucky's. You know what? I'm going to send you some beaver nuggets. it's a gitwa game no' go They'll go right in the trash. Wow. the district Once they build a Buc-ee's up there, you're going to be converted. You're going to be like, this is so good.
00:04:16
Speaker
First of all, they don't they're not going to build stuff up here because up in the Northeast, we don't do chains. Our mom and pop store is up here. i don't know why I just did a Southern accent for the Northeast. That was weird. um Yeah, except for Dunkin' Donuts.
00:04:30
Speaker
Hey, it's a Northeast chain, though. It originated in north Northeast. you know Fair enough. You guys have Tim Hortons up there? No. Tim Hortons was big in Ohio. when i was when i Ohio?
00:04:41
Speaker
Ohio. Which, by the way, it's not mid. Ohio's one of my favorite states. I like Ohio. Speaking of Ohio, our buddy Zach was telling us that he's got a Pokemon store near him, and I'm like, I need to come visit so I can go to that store. because Yeah, me too, because I got all my cards right here. i got a bunch of cards right here, actually.
00:04:58
Speaker
You just pulled them out on deck. Dude, I have them all. Dude, I spent $200 on Pokemon cards last weekend. All right. Hell yeah. I've been wanting to buy them again, but I'm like, I don't.
00:05:08
Speaker
I don't. May 30th. May 30th. Might be lining up outside of GameStop to get some good cards. My first time in a GameStop in a long time. Did you get those up you get those Final Fantasy Magic cards? I did.
00:05:22
Speaker
i did. Nice. And I have no idea about Magic. yeah ah yeah Just collect the cards. What's the most valuable Pokemon card? Charizard first edition.
00:05:34
Speaker
Yeah, which I used to have. So like literally the first printing when they came out? Yeah. yeah Have they ever re-released? They did, but this it's not not the same value. It's not the same though. Still decent value though?
00:05:46
Speaker
No. They released them in 2019 as like a Pokemon original 151 rebrand. And like I have one right here. Hang on, I'll show you. Like I have Staryu from that right here. It was Staria from the original.
00:05:58
Speaker
um It's not worth it. It's worth like 99 cents. But if you had like the original, it's worth a couple hundred. I always see people like sending in cards, usually sports cards though, to like the PSA to get graded. paul on star and come on Pokemon cards are worth way more than sports cards now.
00:06:14
Speaker
other than like Do they send them in to get graded? Yeah, you have to. All right. My mom always gives me grief because when we went to Florida, when I was in middle school, I wanted to buy, like they had a Pokemon card that, you know, had they those like tables where they, it's basically just a trading card like vendor.
00:06:30
Speaker
And they had, i can't remember what Pokemon card it was, but it was like 40 bucks. And I was like, mom, i we need to buy this. And she's like, I'm not spending $40 on a Pokemon card.
00:06:40
Speaker
And that Pokemon card, I believe it

Game Review: South of Midnight

00:06:43
Speaker
was a charge, or no, maybe it was a Yu-Gi-Oh card. might've been Blue Eyes White Dragon. Yeah, Yu-Gi-Oh. I don't know, but whatever the card is, it's worth a couple hundred dollars now. And my mom's always like, you want to spend 40 bucks? I'm like, yeah, it would have been a great investment, mom.
00:06:55
Speaker
So you missed out on that. Damn you, mom. yeah i know i know I know three Yu-Gi-Oh cards in my life. and Blue Eyes, White Dragon, Red Eyes, White Dragon, and Dark Red Eyes, Black Dragon. Oh, my bad. Sorry.
00:07:09
Speaker
All right, boys. And Exodia? i didn Is that the one with the the automatic win or or whatever? Yeah, if you get all five cards and play them.
00:07:21
Speaker
All right, guys. So I don't know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh!, but it is time to get into some gaming. And if if you will notice, I've taken off my glasses and there's a reason for that. We are about to get into a game.
00:07:34
Speaker
Put on my glasses here. It's time to get into the woke zone. We are going to be talking about South of Midnight. This is a game that all three of us have played and beaten recently. Well, in the last couple weeks anyway. um And we were going to do a spoiler cast on it, but life happened and we couldn't do it. So instead, we're just going to talk about it here without spoilers in a very light, normal fashion.
00:07:56
Speaker
And to go ahead and start this off, let's go ahead and start with you, Hodge. We're going to mix the order up slightly just for this one topic. uh south of midnight what did you think sir so overall like i would if i had to like get ah give it like a number grade it'd probably be like 7.5 or so like something like that i really enjoyed it the story the setting the art style i loved all of it the music especially as someone who loves obviously country music the blues and the jazz and the i loved all of that it was amazing
00:08:28
Speaker
um Yeah, I really enjoyed it for that. It was really, we'll get into it obviously more in depth, but obviously it was the gameplay, which is what held it back. But other than that, like, I'm obviously, as people know, I'm like, ah i like walking Sims.
00:08:41
Speaker
So that's basically what I treated the game. I didn't turn off the combat. I guess you could do that. I i didn't know know that, but... I didn't turn off the combat. I did it anyway, but I basically treated the game like a walking sim. And ah the boss fights, though, were really fun. I enjoyed those. But yeah, I treated it basically in the sense of I was just enjoying for the story and it did. It delivered. I loved it. But yeah, overall, it was it was a good, not great game.
00:09:09
Speaker
Sean, what did you think, sir? um Below average, I think. i think i um The more I played it, the less I enjoyed it. combat was i thought the combat was terrible. and they just keep they throw combat at you like this game should not be focused on combat and they throw it at you like all the time i didn't find the boss fights enjoyable at all there's a lot of different combat mechanics but you're not kind of like you don't need to use any of them i do like the art style um the game ends very abruptly as well like there's so many it felt like they were ran out of time on development like we need to get this out so
00:09:44
Speaker
yeah it very ends very abruptly. there's a lot of questions that are not answered. um Unfortunately, I do not think this game's going get a sequel. Unfortunately, I think the studio's going to closing, to be honest.
00:09:55
Speaker
um That would not shock me if Compulsion Games closes. This is not a um commercial success nor a critical success. And if they release it on PlayStation, I don't see it selling boatloads like other... like For example, Oblivion has on PlayStation right now.
00:10:14
Speaker
Um, with that said, I do like the art style and the music were the two high points for me. I really, really enjoyed, uh, just the music. And, um, I would often find myself getting lost in just the environments, just like looking at how gorgeous everything was.
00:10:29
Speaker
That was the two strong suits. I did like Hazel as a character. Um, she was interesting, but again, I think the game ends very abruptly and I don't think there's full development of Hazel. so um, yeah.
00:10:42
Speaker
I think, so it's funny, I say it ends abruptly, but there are also points that I think you cut out of the game and then, not cut out, but like change the game so it re-adds more to the story. I don't want to spoil exactly what I'm talking about. Maybe one day we will get into more about it, even if we don't do a spoiler test. We'll just have a spoiler section at one point.
00:11:01
Speaker
um But overall, I didn't really enjoy it. If I had to put a score on it, which I don't score games, it would probably be maybe a nice six out of ten. I was going to ask you to score it on a scale between like anchovies and bacon.
00:11:16
Speaker
Anchovies and bacon? So I'd probably go full. I don't know. What's in between? inch I mean, I've never had anchovies, but I'm assuming they're not good. Is pepperoni the midpoint then? i don't know. What would be midpoint? I like pepperoni. Popcorn or something would be the midpoint.
00:11:30
Speaker
Popcorn on pizza? No, not on pizza. I was talking pizza toppings. You said androids and bacon. was just saying, those are pizza toppings. Oh, we're talking about pizza then? um So for for like, ah i don't know, maybe like a... um
00:11:45
Speaker
just like a solid, like, just like... A green pepper. Like a green pepper, yeah. Maybe just just like a pepper pizza. theyre Not even like pepper and onion, but just like a pepper pizza. Yeah, that'd be pretty bad. That'd be very bad, yeah. You gotta have that onion or something. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Or bacon or something. Or sausage or something. I don't know.
00:12:05
Speaker
But yeah, you know, that's how that's how I'd grade it Not my favorite experience, but, you know, I played it, so, yeah. All right. So my thoughts here, you can see i got the glasses on because this is where the anti-woke zone.
00:12:20
Speaker
But honestly, this is just a joke. I thought the game was was good. I like the game, but I give it the same score as Hodge. I would also give it a 7.5. So, but I would still consider that a good game.
00:12:30
Speaker
um The combat was absolutely atrocious. I will agree with Sean. I hated the combat other than the boss fights. The boss fights were decent, but the normal combat and they kept making you do it over and over. Like you had to fill that stupid bottle up.
00:12:42
Speaker
So you'd have to fight like four or five fights to fill up the damn bottle and then do the chase sequence every day. it was just, it was very repetitive. Yeah. stuff yeah um But I thought the character Hazel was awesome. She was like really nice and a really good, awesome person. Well-written.
00:12:56
Speaker
I thought that the graphics and the music was phenomenal. Every time the music would turn on, it kind of gave me death stranding vibes, not the same music at all, but the same type of power. You know what I mean? Like I was really vibing out to the music a lot.
00:13:07
Speaker
Um, And, you know, a lot of people complain about like ah the wokeness and stuff. You know, it's a joke. um But this is exactly what people want, though. They want you to make like a cool original story instead of turning ah Superman black.
00:13:19
Speaker
We want you to make an interesting original story. And that's what they did with South of Midnight. This was an interesting story. And I really liked it. The characters, the music and the story were the strong point. um I loved it. I enjoyed the ending quite a bit. I didn't feel like the ending was super rushed, um maybe slightly rushed, but not much.
00:13:37
Speaker
It's just the final battle wasn't very good. Like the final boss, it wasn't. i like I enjoyed the other bosses better, like two to Tom Tom like those ones. I enjoyed those ones better. but Yeah, and the the spider one was cool too, where you had to flip between the platforms and then throw the thing at her and stuff. That was cool.
00:13:54
Speaker
um But overall, I thought that this game was really let down by the combat. um they I didn't know that you could completely skip the combat. I probably would have if I knew that. um I turned it all the way down to the easiest because I just wanted to be done with it because it was so unenjoyable.
00:14:08
Speaker
um But I thought it was a good game. 7.5. That's what I'll say. And i'm going to take off these glasses because this game was not woke. That was just a joke that was just a joke. I like the game. It was a good game.
00:14:19
Speaker
And I am sad that compulsion might close because this game was ah was definitely a commercial flop. Big time. Yeah. I, uh, with two, two quick things though, with the, with the combat to, uh, uh, you know, expand on them a little bit.
00:14:33
Speaker
I didn't think the actual, like, it wasn't a choppy gameplay. Like I thought the powers were cool and it it flowed fine. It's just like you said, it was super repetitive. It was you found, cause, and it's like, there wasn't random encounters or anything. It was just, you found the stupid arena.
00:14:51
Speaker
You walked in and then they started, ah ah They just started spawning and then you did it and then you had to undo the gravel. It was the same thing every single time. They don't they don't make you... It doesn't force you to change anything.
00:15:05
Speaker
yeah That's what I complained about in Discord. The gameplay loop was so repetitive, dude. It was like the same three things over and over and over and over over. Yeah, it was it was horrible. It was bad. But ah the one thing I will say that I love also about the game was Crouton. I loved Crouton.
00:15:20
Speaker
I want I want one. Yeah, I liked all the characters. Crouton was cool. I liked the mama was mama was good. I forgot her name. I had it on my old phone. I had notes for the spoiler cast. The catfish and everyone. Yeah, that dude Laurent or whatever was cool.
00:15:33
Speaker
um I like like the boyfriend or whatever. I liked how he like sacrificed his romance to save them. Like that was really cool. I'm like, they were just cool characters in this. And also think we, I don't know if we mentioned the platforming was pretty solid. I enjoyed the platforming.
00:15:45
Speaker
It was, yeah. The only thing I didn't like about it, it was since it was such a beautiful, open kind of world, there were a lot of invisible walls where I thought I could go like to jump over something. And then I hit an invisible wall and fall to my death. I'm like, oh my God. So yeah, but yeah, other than that, yeah, it was a decent platformer.
00:16:02
Speaker
i enjoyed kind of finding the different little, uh, Metroidvania ishness of it of you could find like little nooks and crannies to blow up and find the whatever the power up stuff is. And so, yeah, overall, that's the thing is it it's going to be, ah course, it's going to be used as console or fodder of oo another Xbox game wasn't that good. But like in in reality, it was a it was an OK game. It wasn't horrible by any means, but it wasn't.
00:16:29
Speaker
It wasn't as good as Compulsion, I wish, because that's what I thought when they bought them, because I'm not going to put this on my list of for our topic today, but We Happy Few, I was debating putting on it, because I was so hyped for that game because of the vibes that game had, too. like Compulsion is the masters of vibes in their game, like in settings and tone. They're so good at it, but...
00:16:47
Speaker
it It fell short. So when Microsoft bought them, like, oh, they got that Microsoft bag. They're going bigger budget. They'll be able to basically take We Happy Few from an OK game to a great game in their next one. And it just came out basically on par with what We Happy Few was. And it bums me out.
00:17:04
Speaker
But yeah. Yeah. No, I also like I like Bunny as a nice foil to Hazel. Yeah, it's a nice foil character. Yeah, she was cool. But hoge i definitely I definitely agree. I think this was I think it was raw. I definitely think it was Russian. I think they they had a deadline. like We need to have this release. There's no we can't delay it.
00:17:24
Speaker
And that was the problem. I think that they could have cooked on a little bit longer. i think it would have been a little bit better. But like you said, it's not a terrible game. It's not it's not a bad game by any point.
00:17:35
Speaker
To me, it was just an average game that the more I played it, the less I liked it. So if this ever did come to PlayStation, I would not replay it.

What Are We Playing: Game Experiences

00:17:42
Speaker
Yeah, and I just looked it up just to double check. so i was like, We Happy Few came out in 2016. They had nine years to make this game. How did it... How? Like, how did it come out like that when it was nine years ago? was probably... i don't know if they started on it exactly then, but... i would i would think they would have been working on for a while and maybe like went to Microsoft and stuff. Like, this is what we've been working on. You know what i mean? Yeah.
00:18:05
Speaker
and I hate to say it. I just think that they're not that great of a studio. Like... ah Because I thought Wii Happy Thru sucked. I didn't like it at all. um yeah I thought the vibes and the setting was awesome, but then I played it and I was like, this sucks.
00:18:16
Speaker
Did you ever play Contrast? I didn't. I didn't even know what it was. No, but I've heard it's decent, but i yeah, it just sucks because it's like, I don't want the studio. Obviously I don't ever want anyone to lose their job, but I don't want the studio to close, but it's like, can you keep them on as like consultants of story and setting or something? Cause they're really good at that. They just need to bring in people for gameplay because the gameplay just falls short. Cause like i said, the setting of we happy few was awesome. It was very bio shocky meets like, I don't know, 1984 kind of thing. And,
00:18:49
Speaker
Or ah what's the brave new was Brave New World the one where they take the drug to be happy? I can't remember what it is. That was We Happy Few. No, there was a book in high school where they um that we read in high school where they took a drug to be happy. i can't remember it was. I have no idea you're talking about.
00:19:04
Speaker
I didn't read it. I'm not sure. I don't remember. But anyway, it was it was that vibe. And then like the South of Midnight vibe was awesome. But yeah, their gameplay just not good. Let them let them be a consultant on the next table game for the story.
00:19:16
Speaker
yeah there you go yeah why not yeah but yeah they they definitely i this is a game that i would recommend to some people if you're if you're a game pass person um and if you don't mind turning off the combat if you just want to enjoy the story the music the characters and the vibe but i think you can enjoy this game it was pretty short if you turn off the combat you could probably do it in like five six hours um but anyway i'm satisfied are we satisfied with south of midnight boys yeah indeed.
00:19:43
Speaker
Let's keep it moving. and All right. So Sean, you are up first. We are getting into the what we are playing section. Sean, I see you got two games on here. Yeah. oullu All right. So my first game is called Deep, Deep Nightmare.
00:19:58
Speaker
And this is a little indie game. Hodge, shout out to you. i don't know if had you ever heard of this game. No, but when you shared the trophy, the art looked familiar. So it looks, it's very like standard, typical, like a lot of the indie art you might see. It kind of reminds me of, um, reminds me of like alien hominid, alien hominid. Um, what was that game I played last year that I really liked? Nobody saves the world. It kind of reminds me of nobody saves the world, that art style.
00:20:23
Speaker
Um, it's a 2d top down shooter. Um, it's developed by Q bite, Q bite interactive. Um, It is pretty funny. So the whole premise is that you're your kid like you're a kid.
00:20:35
Speaker
And your mom's like, do not eat dessert. Too much dessert before bed is going to cause you a nightmare. And he eats a giant cake. And then he goes to bed and he has these nightmares. And your your whole idea is escaping these nightmares. And you're basically... um You have stages, and each stage like I said, just a top-down 2D shooter.
00:20:52
Speaker
And after each stage, there's a boss at the end. And at the end of the stage, you go back to, like, the hub room, and you can buy new weapons, you can buy new costumes, you can buy new spells. And you have four hearts, and if you lose all four hearts, you just go back to the hub world. You have to redo the level again.
00:21:07
Speaker
It's a really fun game. I think there's a total of, I think, like 25 levels, I think. um Some of the bosses can get really difficult. Unfortunately, i am shocked that I don't think this game is selling that well. Not that I'm shocked that not selling well, but I don't think a lot of people have played it because the Platinum is not, like, it's not...
00:21:24
Speaker
like easy to achieve. It's actually pretty difficult. Um, but 14% of players who've played it have it. So that just goes to show me, I think that not a lot of people have played this game. The people who do like I've played it to completion.
00:21:35
Speaker
Um, it is really fun. The weapon variety is awesome too. Like you have a, you have a shot, you have like a suit, you have a shotgun, you have a super shotgun, you chain gun. Um, You have this a laser gun and it's so powerful. It costs the most money in the game and it just obliterates enemies like crazy.
00:21:54
Speaker
And the enemies are just random like these creatures. And you're in this like um you're in just like a ah rectangular room. So like it can get pretty chaotic when you know there's a ton of enemies in the screen and they're all shooting at you and you don't want to get hit.
00:22:07
Speaker
It's a fun game. very like there's no like the only Like I said, the story is just you you eat a cake before bed. There's no dialogue. there's no nothing like that. It's just all visual. It's fun.
00:22:18
Speaker
I really enjoyed it. Highly suggest it, especially if you like these 2D shooters. um and what yeah What made you decide to play this game? I'm just wondering. It seems like no one else has.
00:22:32
Speaker
It has five games. It has five ratings on Steam and that's it. Like five. Yeah. I was going through the PlayStation store and I saw that that it was like five bucks and I'm like, hmm, had a like a four and a half star rating. So i'm like, oh, this looks interesting. So I looked at like the gameplay and I'm like, you know what? I'm in the mood for one of these games.
00:22:55
Speaker
um because i was playing that and claire at the same time obscure so i'm like this would be a nice like game that i only have like 30 minutes i can just jump in and play so i picked it up and i was very satisfied with it it was it was a blast i i highly suggest it to be honest it's like it's a lot of fun and okay yeah it looks interesting yeah all right i guess we don't have anything else on that good stuff sean I mean, I was just looking at it. It was funny. I saw one of the bosses was like a big cake. So i was like, I guess that yeah like he eats the cake. And so he dreams. It's actually the final but one of the final. It's the second to last boss.
00:23:32
Speaker
Oh, I gotcha. Yeah. um Yeah, it was good, though. All right. Good stuff. um What else you got going on? All right, so I've been playing this little game called Claire Obscure Expedition 33. It's funny. It's that the same name as you know my wife, Claire.
00:23:51
Speaker
It's hilarious. No, but I've been playing Claire Obscure. Yeah, her real name is Claire Obscure. No, her middle name is Obscure. Her last name is Expedition 33. It's great.
00:24:01
Speaker
No, I've been playing this game. Uh, I actually beat it. I played it on steam. I just started a replay of it on PlayStation last night. I'm going to, I'm probably going to go for the platinum. I really, really love this game. Uh, it was a blast. I came in you know, as, as the audience knows, was a little trepidatious.
00:24:18
Speaker
I was very scared of that $50 price tag thinking, Oh my gosh, there's something, this is too good to be true. Everything they're showing. Um, the smaller price tag, the small team, it's the first they've developed, but I was extremely impressed. ah From the performance to the overall story, and the gameplay was awesome. um Shout out to just, like, everyone in this game, like,
00:24:41
Speaker
I cannot believe that this team is so small. that The voice casting that they have for this game. There's so many good actors. like And the fact that they had an Andy Serkis in this game is like ridiculous.
00:24:53
Speaker
likeking Charlie Cox. yeah Yeah. um and yeah It is insane. The setting's really cool. I really like like European settings. I love it. It screamed to me like Victorian.
00:25:07
Speaker
um i know it's expressed in France, it's like Victorian England, like the whole is Victorian European um timeframe. I really love that. um It speaks to me. like I love literature from that time period. So this is like was right up my alley.
00:25:20
Speaker
um the Like I said, the performances were insane. The characters were so memorable. And this is a game that you get so attached to the characters. So when certain stuff happens, like you are going to be like, I can... like You really feel it.
00:25:31
Speaker
Shout out to Ben Star. Ben Star is just phenomenal as voice actor. Came on the screen... Came on the... As Clive from Final Fantasy XVI. And since then, he's just taken off. Everything he does is just amazing.
00:25:43
Speaker
I love his voice, too. just so He's got that James Earl Jones effect. Where every time he speaks, with that Morgan Freeman effect, every time he speaks, you're like... This is awesome. I just want to hear you speak. Please narrate my wife.
00:25:54
Speaker
Is he Verso? Yes, he's Verso. That's what said. Can I ask, who's your favorite character? ah Verso, to be honest. I love ben Star's character. um How is my girl Shadowheart in this game? Is she good? and Oh, Maelle.
00:26:09
Speaker
She plays Maelle. Yeah, she's probably my second favorite character. she's Yeah, she's great. She was so good as Shadowheart that I'm excited to play this in her again. so it was her Between her and Verso, it was my two favorite characters.
00:26:21
Speaker
um They were both phenomenal. ah Even Charlie Cox's character, Gustave, was an awesome character. The whole story is just so cool. I love the whole premise of...
00:26:32
Speaker
Like, they're in a society that when the, you know, the Pinterest comes every year, and it's like, oh, you're 30, you know, you hit that age, you're gone, sorry, just like, you're wiped off the universe. The one thing I did kind of find weird is in the prologue, I it's Friday, it's like 10 minutes into the game, but, um,
00:26:48
Speaker
when you know that time comes where everyone kind of gets basically thanos snapped out of the way they don't all happen at once it's like one by one and of course the the person that you're in love with is like the last person to go just think that was fun it's just like funny it's such a video game thing it's just like emotional resume yeah of the of it but it's it's it's a powerful prologue i i love it did you want you've watched a lock play it right uh midnight the i've No, I haven't seen anything of it. I'm on a Blackout. lock stream when he was playing and I mean, I hopped in just to say hi and show love, but I wasn't watching because I don't want spoilers because I am going to play this game very soon.
00:27:23
Speaker
Yeah, I definitely don't want to spoil anything either. but Yeah, it's crazy that at the end the It's going to be my next game. so At the end of the game, they just wake up and the entire thing is a dream. It's crazy. I know, it's it was weird. and was yeah yeah and And then he wakes up next to his wife named Claire Obscure. I do have one question for you guys, though. yeah yeah to Did Sephiroth do it?
00:27:43
Speaker
Yeah, he did. Shirtless Sephiroth, actually. ah figure No, but overall, this game's awesome. it's the The praise it's getting is so worth it and so deserved. that This team did an amazing job. i um Honestly, I still can't believe how good this game is.
00:27:58
Speaker
um The one... The only criticism I have of the game is I see a lot of people saying this, this oh my god, this combat, this turn-based combat is so revolutionary.
00:28:09
Speaker
Like, have you guys played any turn-based game that came out like 30 years ago? Like, go play Paper Mario. It's the same, Paper Mario is deeper combat than this game. I'm sorry, it does.
00:28:20
Speaker
um Like the parry and the dodge system, that's in Paper Mario. I'm sorry. These are in Mario RPG games. Yeah. Exactly. A lot of those, oh, sorry.
00:28:31
Speaker
No, what I'm saying is we're in like a dragon to the, yeah that's what I mean. Like people are saying this, this combat's like revolutionary. I don't think the combat, the combat's really good. I love it. But again, it's nothing. it's It's doing nothing new other than maybe adding like the button presses. But even then it's not that deep. Like if you can nail the timing down, you can pretty much beat anyone at any level.
00:28:50
Speaker
You can parry and dodge. You can pretty much beat anyone. Although in that prologue fighting that mime for the first time, that was hilarious. First of all, those mime characters are so funny. Um,
00:29:02
Speaker
And the music, oh my god, the music is so good. When I first booted up the game, I sat at like the title screen for probably like 5 to 10 minutes, and you're sitting there listening to it, and like then you hurt start hearing, Claire Obscure!
00:29:14
Speaker
You start hearing the name in and I'm like, whoa, this is crazy! um But yeah, there are so many emotional moments in this game, and the music hits along with that. I felt like I was watching like like ah John Williams score, almost. like when you like He hits his emotional beats in movies so well.
00:29:31
Speaker
um But yeah, overall, fantastic game. Really looking forward Hodge and I will be doing a spoiler cast on it um next week because I am done and Hodge, it should be done, hopefully. If not, I told you when where I was in the game. I'm pretty sure I'm right at the You're close. You're close.
00:29:45
Speaker
um Overall, great game. Cannot wait to get the Platinum on PlayStation. um Yeah, wicked fun. Yeah, ah which obviously leads into me. I'm as we said, I'm playing this as well. um Yeah, this game, honestly, it like I was saying, Death Stranding has the is the only game that has a chance to beat. This is game of the year for me because this game is so, so I'm in love with this game.
00:30:09
Speaker
And as you guys know, I'm not a turn based gamer. ah The only thing that I, I mean, I, this is why I was asking about persona in discord is because I know that it has a very artistic menu like this. And so yeah that's the thing I love also about the, it's not, obviously I'm not saying it's revolutionary, but that's what I love about this game is that the, the menu is so stylistic. It's not just like the boxes at the bottom of, you know, like Pokemon of just going through a menu and choosing your thing.
00:30:37
Speaker
I love that about it, but yeah, the music, the story, the story really reminds me of attack on Titan where it's the people living in their world and there's just all that terror out there and they don't know what it is and they're trying to figure it out. But actually my biggest complaint about the game is that it does the uncharted thing of where it's like we're in a place where no one's ever been before. And there's like dead expeditioners there. It's like, I thought you said you're like the first ones here. Why are there already corpses here? Like,
00:31:05
Speaker
It's and and like in the chart, uncharted. You're like, well, we're in this temple. No one's been in, in 5,000 years. And there's a, but there's already an army in there. We're ready to fight. But yeah, that's really my only complaint. It's just obviously little a minor thing, but no, I love all the characters too.
00:31:19
Speaker
um My favorite character is probably my L, but my favorite to play as is, ah is probably Luna. She's, she's, her powers are awesome, but also i've I've had Monaco in my party ever since he got ever since he joined. but um yeah i the I've been listening to the music on Spotify since I started this game. It's it's so it's amazing. It's so so good. yeah It is crazy that this game was made by 30 people. It's unbelievable. 33 actually, which is hilarious actually. Oh, is it really? thirty Yeah, it's made by 33 people.
00:31:56
Speaker
But ah yeah, I can't wait to do this podcast because I want to dive into every little detail about it. But I'm in love with this game. It's obviously I have to finish the story of it. But outside of that, it's a 10 out of 10 for me. I love everything about this game. I'm probably going to do the new game plus so I can 100% in on Xbox. And then I am going to buy it on PlayStation again, eventually, not right away, but eventually down the road, I'm going to get it on PlayStation and play it again because I love this game that much. But ah Yeah, this game, and it deserves to be bought because I'm playing it through Game Pass. Thank God for Game Pass having this. that what a What a win having that on Game Pass, but
00:32:33
Speaker
ah I this game is so good. I've already bought merch and that's I did too. I was actually about to say that I have already brought some merch. I cannot wait to get your take on the ending because the ending is absolutely crazy and it is so and there's just something that happens and you're going to I cannot wait to get your your reaction. Yeah, there's so many moments.
00:32:55
Speaker
Yeah, especially because the characters that you are gravitating towards. Yeah. No, yeah, that's the that's the thing is I don't want to spoil anything about this game, but I cannot wait i cannot wait to get into the big moments about this and for Midnight to to experience him when he when he finishes his game that he's playing to get to this game because holy shit, I am in love with this game. It's it's so funny. like It's so good that the president of France tweeted about it or whatever. I saw that. Yeah, Matt Crone or whatever.
00:33:23
Speaker
Yeah, it's that's... I love Yeah, that'd be like if Donald Trump was tweeting about Pokemon right now. yeah You know what I love is that when ah the president of France, Macron, or whatever, tweeted about it, the studio, ah Sandfall or whatever their name is, their response was a baguette emote.
00:33:41
Speaker
Yeah. So French. Yeah. it's Oh, man. i i i yeah I cannot believe how this is, one, debut game, and two, it was made by such a small team. like It brings me back.
00:33:54
Speaker
mean, it's way better than what it what I'm going to say, but it it brings me back to when I played Kenna. I love that game. And it was umbe unbelievable to realize that was a... Well, not only a debut team, but the team that made it was an animation studio. They weren't even a game studio. So that was good. But yeah, this game... Wasn't it like Ubisoft people who made it? Like ex-Ubisoft people? There's some ex-Ubisoft people. But if you look at... They've done interviews and stuff. And they talk about how much they grew up playing turn-based RPGs.
00:34:22
Speaker
And a lot of these people are like... They were like teenagers or early 20s when like Final Fantasy X came out. And you can so see the... You can see the inspiration from Final Fantasy X in this game so much.
00:34:33
Speaker
ah From the story to the... Just the gameplay. It is so awesome. ah Again, it speaks right to me. Hodge, you also mentioned that you like those creative menu art style. God, if you think this is like...
00:34:45
Speaker
um inter like colorful and interactive go play a persona game those are persona menus are yeah that's why i asked because i remember i've seen like screenshots of persona and how like the menu looks all cool and i'm like that's why i ask people i'm like does this play like persona because if it is how persona plays i want kind of it it kind of not like 100 but yeah Yeah. Like I heard there, there's no dodge and parry or whatever. No, there's no dodge. It's, it's much more traditional turn-based.
00:35:10
Speaker
Last thing I'm going to say before we move on. I do love how there is like the various people you come across. There are some people who like are for the expedition and there's some people who are against it.
00:35:23
Speaker
and It goes to show you like the type of, um, Some people are so ho-hum, like, this is our duty. like We need to be able to stop this, the paintress, from doing this.
00:35:34
Speaker
Whereas other people are like, no, this is just fate. We need to live our lives the way it is. um And they don't. And it's awesome. It's so good. Yeah. Yeah. I can't wait to finish it. i'm I probably won't be able to finish it until tomorrow, sadly, because I'm going out of town today. But, yeah, I can't i can't wait.
00:35:52
Speaker
Yeah, so obviously I haven't played this game, unfortunately. I'm so mad at myself that I decided to start a different game. I didn't realize, like I started this game, I don't know, like a week or so before Expedition 33 started coming out.
00:36:04
Speaker
I didn't realize that this game was going to be so good. Like we knew it was going to be good. Hodge and I were both really excited and really glowing about it, but I didn't think it was going to be game of the year, like 92 plus type game. um So now i've I've had major FOMO and unfortunately I'm not going to be on the spoiler cast because I just, I won't get to it in time, but yeah.
00:36:20
Speaker
It is the next game I'm going to play. I have a simple solution for you. It's called Drop Mid, Play Good. No, because I'm enjoying the game that I'm playing, actually. It's not mid. I'm liking it. And I'm playing it through a subscription.
00:36:32
Speaker
So I want to get my money's worth. already canceled my month. I have until the 13th to beat this game I'm playing. But anyway. Carry on, Hodge. I'm good. Yeah, i don't I don't want to say much more because I don't want to spoil anything. So I'm just, I'm loving it.
00:36:49
Speaker
Every moment of this game. I can't wait to. I'm definitely going to try and 100% it. The only tough one. It's not a secret achievement. So I'm not spoiling by saying this. It's there's one of don't get hurt fighting a boss. And I'm trying to figure out how the hell I'm going do that.
00:37:02
Speaker
Might have to do it through during the new game. Plus when I'm doing those early enemies while I'm a level 60. So we're powered. Yeah. Yeah. That's really going to be the only chance I have. Because even though I i did, I beat a burgeon and without taking damage and like it didn't count. So I don't know what constitutes a boss. so So interesting.
00:37:20
Speaker
Yeah. So I don't know what's a boss and what's not. So I'll just try not get hurt my next playthrough.
00:37:28
Speaker
But yeah. ah Next up, I guess we, you guys ready move on from that or? Yeah. All right. Well, next, this is just a quick, I beat Kingdom Hearts. Obviously I was saying the other, when I was in a gaming funk, I replayed it and I say I'm no longer in a gaming funk because I'm loving expedition, but,
00:37:45
Speaker
Yeah, I beat Kingdom Hearts. It's just still one of my favorite games of all time. It's awesome. I have nothing to add to that. Just that's what I was playing. And then another one that I didn't list because I want to do the same thing as what Midnight did. I started a CrossCode and o I dropped it, obviously, because I'm on Expedition 33 right now because...
00:38:07
Speaker
uh i've been hyped for that game but i'm enjoying it the combat's harder than i thought it was going to be um i'm i didn't realize for some reason i thought it was turn-based when you uh gave it me and but it plays like basically like legacy of goku kind of yeah that top down uh game boy advance look and yeah i'm really enjoying it uh just yeah the combat's a little hard for me but i actually turned down the uh You can have they can like rate how much ah they hurt you or whatever, how much percentage points.
00:38:37
Speaker
And so I ah i put it at about half. but Because I was walking through the forest and like I just attacked a rabbit to get some experience and they fucking murdered me. I'm like, what? but It's just a rabbit. like So I was like, all right, I'm just going not attack wildlife for right now. and But yeah, it's a really cool game. I love the art style. Obviously, I love that Game Boy Advance look.
00:38:59
Speaker
And I'm interesting. it's It's one of those games, obviously, where you play a character as Amnesia. You don't know who you are, or why you are, and blah, blah, blah. But i I'm enjoying learning about this character as she learns about herself and stuff. So it's a really cool game, and I'm excited to get back to it after am done with Exposition 33, which has enveloped my entire life.
00:39:20
Speaker
so I also, what do you think of the whole premise of like, she's in like a video game world, but she's like not an actual person where everyone else is and they don't realize it. They're like, yeah everyone else is like in there as their avatar and she's just there. Like that's her. So yeah, it's, it's a, it's an interesting concept. I i really enjoy that. Cause you get there and like, when you meet one of the characters, I a forgot his name, but when you meet one the characters, he's are you a level four already? You must be cheating. And yeah it's like, no, she just, she's here.
00:39:47
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I'm enjoying it. i'm like I'm excited to get back to it. But yeah, I got to beat Expedition 33 first because I love it. Well, that'll be good. That means once you play that, it'll be that we've all played our games that we were gifted. Yeah.
00:40:04
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. and then ah But yeah, that's all I got to say. And obviously, I know Midnight has nothing to say about CrossCode. So whatever. What are you playing, Midnight? We know what you're playing, but what you playing? When you put another one, I thought you were going to talk about oblivion, but maybe you didn't play enough to. Oh, shit. I did. I did forget to put that on there. I only played it.
00:40:22
Speaker
Yeah, I only played it for um I played it for like a night and then the next day for a little bit. I really loved it. Actually, it was a lot of fun. It's a beautiful remaster. Of course, the story is super interesting.
00:40:35
Speaker
I went and I like I closed an oblivion gate and stuff like that. was, it was is a really, really fun game. I'm enjoying it actually way more than I enjoyed Skyrim. So I do want to get back to it eventually, but i don't know if thankfully since, you know, it's on game pass forever because Xbox owns it. I don't have to rush back to it anytime soon. So,
00:40:53
Speaker
But I do definitely want to go back to it because I really was enjoying my time with it. I just knew the second Expedition 33 came out, I was dropping it. So I just jumped in because I wanted to see what it was like. And yeah, I enjoyed it a lot. So I'm definitely going to get back to it. But yeah, I didn't.
00:41:09
Speaker
Yeah, it was a very, very fun game. Yeah, you and Sean both should play this when you have the time, like later on. Because honestly, the story is better than Skyrim. And now that it's brand it's a brand new remake with beautiful graphics and stuff, it's like it's it's a newer game than Skyrim now at this point.
00:41:25
Speaker
um And yeah, i think I think you'll both really enjoy it. You can actually experience the Bethesda greatness like like we did back in the day when it was new. experienced Bethesda greatness with Fallout, so I'm i know You like would love Oblivion.
00:41:38
Speaker
Claire's playing it right now. and I will say I do... even though I am loving, um, uh, oblivion, uh, or I did what i I loved, what I played of it. I still love the fallout worlds better. I just, I love the post-apocalyptic like retro future. I love that so much, but, uh, I do love, I I've enjoyed oblivion for what I've played. I played probably five or six hours. So I was, I, it's not like I only hopped in for a little bit. it was really fun.
00:42:05
Speaker
Well, if you If you do actually go back to it and you actually beat that game later, ah well maybe we'll get me, you, and Locke more to do like a spoiler cast. That would be fun. Oh, yeah. That'd be fun. Because Locke loves it, too. so All right.
00:42:17
Speaker
So let me get into what I've been playing, and I have been playing Assassin's Creed Shadows. That's right. I'm in Japan. I'm playing as Naoe and Yasuke, and I'm having a good time.
00:42:29
Speaker
I gotta to be honest. I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. I think the graphics are beautiful. ah The setting is awesome. The combat is really fun. Like, the combat is really fun and deep. It's got, like, deep skill trees, lot of different abilities, lot of different combos and counters. Like, if you do your... ah like your perfect parry, and then you can counter them, and it makes them weak. Or if you dodge right the time, they get weak, and then you can mess them up. um There's a lot of different weapons. um like Each character has like three to five different weapons that you can use with whole different skill trees and abilities for them.
00:43:02
Speaker
So that's really cool. um I really love Naoe, the female Japanese ninja. She's an awesome character. um She has a lot more energy and spunk than Jin Sakai, for example. Like a lot of people complained in Ghost that Jin Sakai was kind of boring and monotone, um which I love Jin.
00:43:21
Speaker
I love Ghost. But Naoe does have a lot more spunk. um She's younger. i think she has more energy. I don't know. She's like 20 years old, maybe in this game or something. So like she's got that young, like I'm going to save the world energy, and she's on a mission because something tragic happened in the beginning, and I'm not going to say what it was.
00:43:37
Speaker
um And then Yasuke, I actually like him way more than I thought I would. you know I wasn't super excited about them shoving the Black Samurai in because I thought like you're finally making a Japanese game, and you're not going to have like a Japanese protagonist. like Yeah, we we get that Yasuke existed, but there's been one In the entire history of Japan, there's been one black, potentially samurai, and there's been you know tens ah tens of thousands of Japanese ones, and of course you choose the one.
00:44:05
Speaker
But I actually really like Yasuke in this game. He's really he's a great character. um He's just like a really good, like genuine, like good, honorable guy. like Nice guy. He's always helping people and doing the right thing.
00:44:17
Speaker
um And he's a really strong fighter. um i do play i'd say my gameplay um because she's really, I think she is like the canon character in this game, because especially for exploration, if you play as Yasuke, like you can't even do stuff. Like he can't climb up on stuff.
00:44:35
Speaker
Like he can't scale the towers and the viewpoints. Most of the time he can't sneak at all. Like he's just like big and clumsy. It's funny if you fast travel to ah like a viewpoint or whatever with, with Yasuke, like he just falls off and like lands in the like awkwardly lands in the water or awkwardly lands in the the straw and like breaks the straw like it scatters everywhere. So it's like no longer there anymore. And like he hurts his back. It's like it's funny.
00:44:59
Speaker
ah But now way, like she can climb everywhere. She has all these tools. She's super sneaky and can assassinate people. um She's awesome. I really like her combat too. Her combat is more challenging, um which I like because she's not as strong as Yasuke.
00:45:13
Speaker
um So like when you get into the thick of it and all of a sudden you're fighting like six people, it's really intense and like you got to be on it. You got to be on your counters and stuff. And I really enjoy that. But I like Yasuke as well. So 20% of the time I'm playing as Yasuke.
00:45:25
Speaker
He's the dude if you just want to go in there and just brawl and don't care about stealth at all because he's really strong. um And obviously he's the dude for his own story missions, which have been really good. Like his story has been awesome. um So Shadow, I like both of them.
00:45:37
Speaker
I like the game a lot. um I will say it's not a perfect game. There are some negatives. The big negative that I have with this game is how freaking huge and bloated this game is. It is insanely fucking bloated.
00:45:48
Speaker
um Everybody made fun of Valhalla when it came out for being... boring, bloated, and endless, I think was the quote from Skill Up. ah And that was like a big thing. ah This game is literally, it's I swear it's bigger and more bloated than Valhalla, which is crazy.
00:46:03
Speaker
The map is massive. The map is insanely massive. I've played like 45 hours and when I pull up the map, like it shows you like where you've been because it reveals the map. I've only seen like 40% of the map. Like, it's crazy.
00:46:17
Speaker
Like, I've been to almost all the areas, but as far as, like, the actual part of the map, because it shows your path as you traverse through, like, there's so much Fog of War still that I haven't seen. There's something like 24, 26 castles, like, in this game.
00:46:28
Speaker
Like, it did not need to be this big at all. um There's so many side missions, just endless side missions. I honestly feel like this game, if they cut it in half, or they cut 40% off of it, if it was, like, 50 or 60% of what it was, it would be a much better game.
00:46:43
Speaker
Because the actual like main story missions, the Naoe and Yasuke missions are awesome. The story is awesome. But it's just so bloated with all this other crap that they want you to do that really does bring it down.
00:46:55
Speaker
um But I am liking the game. I'm going to beat the game. um It's probably like a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10 for me right now. It might go up slightly at the end um if it has a great ending.
00:47:06
Speaker
But that's where I'm at. That's Assassin's Creed Shadows. Shout out to this game. I am enjoying it. um And that's the only thing I'm playing besides South of Midnight that I beat. um Expedition 33 is next.
00:47:17
Speaker
I can't wait. I will be playing that next. Shout out to Game Pass. um So I'll be playing that. But yeah, so that is what

Listener Question: Worst 100% Completion

00:47:25
Speaker
we've been playing. do you you guys Either of you guys, I doubt you have anything to say about Shadows. But if you have any bars, go ahead.
00:47:31
Speaker
No, I just, I'm bummed to hear that it's bloated. Because I remember that was the biggest criticism. ah Well, I still remember when they announced Valhalla, like, we're not going to make it as bloated as Origins and Odyssey were. And then it was way more bloated.
00:47:44
Speaker
And then so after that, they're like, all right, we're going to, our next game is going to go back to the old school Assassin's Creed. And then so that came out of Mirage and it was like super boring and like basic. And I was like, well that sucked too. And so the so like, all right, let's get back to making it over bloated.
00:47:59
Speaker
Like, come on. But ah yeah, I'm I the biggest reason I didn't want to jump. Well, one, I'm just kind of burnout on Assassin's Creed, but I didn't with Yote coming out. I'm like, I don't want to play two Japanese games and Ghost of Tsushima did Assassin's Creed better than assassin any as Assassin's Creed game has ever done it. So I'm just like, um I'd rather play Yote and Tsushima than this, but I'm happy you're enjoying it.
00:48:26
Speaker
Yeah, dude. And not only that, but Japan is a super mountainous island, so there's tons of mountains in this. So not only is the map huge, but sometimes it's a little bit difficult to navigate because there's these big ass mountains that you have to get through and stuff. Yeah.
00:48:38
Speaker
um But anyway, ah Sean, I think you have anything to say on this. Glad you're enjoying it, but ah definitely not my type of game, nor would I probably ever pick it up.
00:48:49
Speaker
All right. So that's what we're playing, boys. We are now going to get into our write-in. And as we like to do, Sean Mason, you want to take it away with our write-in, sir? I do. This write-in comes from our good friend, Broderick Fleming. Shout-out to him. He actually called me the other day by mistake, which was actually really funny. I'm like, why is he calling me? It's so random.
00:49:06
Speaker
And then I answered, and it was just like, you know, and you answer a phone call and they're not actually there. Yeah. um It was funny. But he has a question that's very fitting for this topic of the episode. He goes, what's the worst game you guys 100%ed?
00:49:18
Speaker
In my many sleepless nights recently, I got the platinum for Suicide Squad, and I cried with my daughter for forcing myself to do it. That is funny. That is a definitely not a great game, but I'm glad you shrugged through and got that platinum for yourself.
00:49:35
Speaker
All right. So Hodge, why don't you take it away? Why tell us your um maybe the game that you 100% of that you think was like, why did I do this? You guys will never get so I'm going So there was one point.
00:49:49
Speaker
a couple years ago, let's see what year I did this. This was 2019 where I was looking through my backlog and I was like, I don't want to play any new games. I'm just going to play everything that's in my backlog and I'm going play it alphabetically.
00:50:03
Speaker
So exactly. It's such a serial killer thing to do. Yeah. And I made it one game in, so that's how horrible that idea was. But with an a yeah, guess what game it is. It started with an A. Neither of you are going to guess it. I'll give you both one guess though.
00:50:18
Speaker
all right Midnight, you guess first. I have no idea. I don't know what games start with an A. um I'm going to guess. Pass play. Pass play, The game. um gave yeah
00:50:31
Speaker
Ants to video game.
00:50:35
Speaker
No, I played and 100% because I don't know why, but I did. Adventure Time, the Pirates of the Insuridian. I've looked at this game so many times.
00:50:46
Speaker
it It was actually, it wasn't the worst game I've ever played, but I played it because I was like, it's in my back because it was probably games with gold or something. I don't remember why I had it, but.
00:50:57
Speaker
ah i I played it because I was like, I'm going to beat everything in my backlog. And after I beat this game, i was like, I'm not doing that. This game, was why did I do this? I wasted, yeah let's see, how many hours did I put into this?
00:51:09
Speaker
10 hours of my life into this game to get 100%. It was so stupid. i don't know why I did it. And so when I saw this question, that was the first thing that came to my mind of, yep, I wasted my my life on an Adventure Time game.
00:51:25
Speaker
And yeah that's That's definitely my worst game that I 100% for sure.
00:51:33
Speaker
All right. That's a great, great pick. All right. Midnight, you're up. All right. So I only have five Platinums. um So I have Ghost of Tsushima was my first. Then I had Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Eternite's.
00:51:47
Speaker
13 Sentinels, Aegis Rim, and then Control. Yeah, but it doesn't have to be a Platinum. Think about games you've ever 100% of in your life. I never really and never really focused on it until the Platinum Hunt. um So I would say of the games that I have got the the Platinum in, Eternites was definitely the worst one. I did enjoy this game, but it is just like an indie, like, Persona-like game.
00:52:07
Speaker
It's like a 7 out of 10. um the i I actually misunderstood the question at first. My answer was going to be control because I thought he was asking like the the biggest pain in the ass to platinum. And that was definitely control because that really annoyed me getting the platinum.
00:52:20
Speaker
But since he's talking about the quality of the game, Eternites would probably be my worst 100%. But I do still like the game. How about you, Sean? Alright, so I'm just going to cheat and I'm going to say two games because I have to.
00:52:33
Speaker
um One of them is along the lines of Hodge. I have the platen for Ice Age Scrat's Nutty Adventure. this this was on uh ps plus and i like like oh this should be an easy plat just a nice little i was in the mood for like a nice platformer oh my god this game is so broken to the point like you'd be doing stuff and the game would just break you'd fall through like the floor and you would just it is such a bad game But I was, like, so determined to beat it that I had to, like, replay... had to play through it.
00:53:05
Speaker
And then I had to play through it a second time because I missed some collectible. um And you're just running around to scrap the little squirrel from Ice Age. And it is so bad. The the jumping is so bad. Like, the... um like the landing like the landing zones for when you're jumping on a platform is so bad you like think you land in the middle of a platform you just nope nope you didn't you missed it uh you're slipping all over the place cause there's ice everywhere it is so bad and you know what's crazy about this game they re-released this for ps5 when ps5 came out and it got its own and there was no auto pop and i i contemplated going back and getting it
00:53:41
Speaker
But yeah, it was originally a Google Stadia game too. um quality Published by Outright Games. Published by Outright Games. they they they They're known for doing the Paw Patrol games. the Oh, they did their Adventure Time game.
00:53:56
Speaker
Oh, did they? Yes. That's awesome. That is funny. Oh, man. Oh, my God. But yeah, they do all these like like like Hotel Transylvania games like that. um But yeah, Ice Age, and Scratch, Nutty Adventure. Okay, and then the other game i just have to mention real quick is I got the Platinum and Bee Simulator.
00:54:14
Speaker
And the only reason why I have to tell you I got the Platinum in this game and how much of a pain it was is because they patched the game to fix a broken trophy and it broke another trophy. Wait, did you say beat simulator or beat saber? B, like B-E-E. Oh, B simulator. Okay, so you're a B. Yes, you run around as a B. And the only reason why it was so bad is they so they passed the trophy to make it so that they passed the game so that you could get a trophy.
00:54:41
Speaker
um But it broke another trophy and the only way you could get that trophy that was broken is if you played on like the original like the 1.0 version and on PS5 you can't revert it down to the 1.0 version.
00:54:54
Speaker
So I ended up rebuying it on Amazon a physical copy played it offline to pop the trophy just so I could get the platinum and I did it and oh my god. And this game is very much like Scrat's Nutty Adventure. It's very broken.
00:55:07
Speaker
lot of ah things you will do and you'll be like, why didn't that pop? Or why why am i flying through a tree? Overall, it's fun though. You go around as a bee. But yeah, Scrat's Nutty Adventure is much worse.
00:55:19
Speaker
Alright. Well, there you have a Good stuff. Good stuff. Shout out. Thank you again, BroderickFleming90997. Our boy. Thank you for your write-in, your your regular write-ins. And listeners, please, we want write-ins, so leave a comment in the YouTube section.
00:55:35
Speaker
Ask us questions, comments, and everything, and you may be on the show in the future. I gotta say, ah it's it's crazy that there were 90,996 BroderickFlemings before him. That was wild.
00:55:48
Speaker
Very popular name, apparently. Yeah. With all that being said, it is time, boys, to jump into our main topic of discussion. Today's topic is going to be the most disappointing games.
00:56:01
Speaker
So these are the games that we were really excited for that turned out to be shit. We either played them or we just saw everybody saying how bad it was and we were like, I'm not even going to bother playing

Disappointing Games Discussion

00:56:11
Speaker
it. So we're going to get into that.
00:56:13
Speaker
Go ahead. ah as you say I will say one some of my games, they aren't like... Well, actually, yeah, they aren't like complete shit, but I was disappointed by them. Yeah, that's that's fair.
00:56:25
Speaker
It was a letdown from what you expected. Yeah, exactly. That's fair enough. ah Some of them mine are a little similar. um So with that being said, we are going to go ahead and start with pick number one. And the order is going to be Hodge Midnight Sean.
00:56:37
Speaker
So Hodge, why don't you take us away? So not you guys obviously don't have to do this, but I'm going to go by like my what basically of my hype to disappointment level like ratio i'm gonna go from like the least like i wasn't super high i was small the smallest gap to the largest gap exactly so i'm going to do that and my first game i'm the same yeah my first game i don't know if you guys even remember this game existed it came out in 2008 it was a game called dark sector one if you look at the box box art you might remember but
00:57:14
Speaker
but I remember, I think it was Game Informer, they had all these reviews or previews for this game, and I was so excited for it. When it came out, it was one of those games that was just glitchy as shit. All the enemies were always T-posing and stuff like that.
00:57:29
Speaker
And it was, I was looking at the reviews. It got like sevens, which I was surprised because I remember being busted as hell when it came out to the point that I didn't even play it. I think I played like a demo for it, but it just wasn't, it was one of those games where it it like promised all these really cool, like ah powers and stuff. And i was like, oh, this looks awesome. And then it came out and it was just a kind of crappy. And so that's, that's the first one I thought of when I i thought of this topic. That was my, the first game that came to my mind was, was dark sector.
00:58:00
Speaker
This game has a very positive 86% rating on Steam, so apparently people like it now. Maybe they maybe they patched it, because I remember play it yeah cause i remember there was T-poses and stuff like all the time. like Enemies were just busted, and yeah, it was not good.
00:58:16
Speaker
I'm looking at this studio that developed the game. They did the Bioshock 2 multiplayer. Oh, really? Yeah. crazy i didn't even know that bioshock 2 had multiplayer so they also did unreal tournament 3 on console and max and mac and unreal tournament 2004 interesting i've never heard of this game um i probably came across it in game informer back then because i was like trying game informer for me yeah i kind of you know i'm gonna go through my old game informer magazines i haven't organized by year and i'm gonna look at this these 2008 issues and try to find this game hell yeah
00:58:52
Speaker
All right. all right So I'm up next here. but it was It was the cover ah in ah um month November 2005. November 2006. was the cover story. I'm writing that down. And next episode, I'm bringing issue.
00:59:06
Speaker
Hell yeah. Wow.
00:59:09
Speaker
i'm writing that down and next episode i'm bringing that issue he yeah oh
00:59:16
Speaker
Alright. are we Are we satisfied on a Dark Sector? Yes. Alright. So I'm up next with my pick here. And my pick here is going to be Starfield Shattered Space. Now this is the expansion.
00:59:30
Speaker
not Not the actual game. So I enjoyed of course Starfield the base game. right But i was real I thought it had some flaws. You know, the storytelling, the exploration wasn't quite up to par with the usual Bethesda.
00:59:43
Speaker
And I knew that they were working on the Shattered Space expansion, which was going to talk about the story of the frickin... don't even remember their name. ah The Voom or whatever. I don't even remember. But it was going to tell the story of the other faction that we never got to experience.
00:59:56
Speaker
And I was so excited. I was like, they're going to nail it. This is going to be like single planet storytelling. Bethesda's back, baby. And then it came out and everybody shit on it. Everybody was like, this is horrible. Maddie Locke. Everybody... All the reviews were like, this is not good.
01:00:10
Speaker
This is not. So I didn't even play it. I didn't even bother playing it. I'm like, I'm not going to waste my time. Literally, everybody hates this. um Unfortunately, this was not the expansion that brought back the beloved classic BGS exploration and storytelling.
01:00:24
Speaker
So that's my pick. Number one, Starfield Shattered Space. Will I play it one day? Probably. But it is not at all a priority. It's like number 69 on list. on my list And not not a nice 69 either. A bad 69.
01:00:40
Speaker
You guys have any thoughts on that? You remember I played this. Do you remember that, right? i did You played Shattered Space? Yes, I did. Was it bad? Yes, it was bad. i It was bad.
01:00:51
Speaker
was very broken. What was the faction called? I forgot their name. The Vern... Something with a V. I can't remember their either. That's how forgettable it is.
01:01:02
Speaker
yeah That's how you know it's not a good BGS game when you can't remember the faction's name. Exactly. like Like the girl. like She was my favorite girl in the main story that was her faction, but I just literally can't remember the name of the faction.
01:01:15
Speaker
I honestly couldn't remember it. Who cares? I did enjoy base Starfield, but it just, it's definitely not up to par with obviously like the Elder Scrolls or or the Fallout games that they've done before. Yeah.
01:01:26
Speaker
Like I said before, really my only problem with Starfield was the loading screens for traveling through planets or between planets. That was really my only complaint was you'd have to stop in certain galaxies to refuel. And I'm like, just let me fast travel to each planet. Like if I've been there before, you should to be able to just fast travel to it. Like,
01:01:45
Speaker
and That was really my only complaint with that game. I i really enjoyed it, actually, but I never finished it because I fell off because i was think I was studying for my exams in trade school, so I didn't get to finish it.
01:01:57
Speaker
Yeah, the excessive loading screens and the barrenness of a lot of the content. It just felt kind of empty. I mean, obviously, it's space. It's going to be empty, but that just doesn't translate well to a game. When you when you have such a huge world, it's just too much of it is empty.
01:02:10
Speaker
They should narrowed their focus, but we know that. Sean! Why don't you give us your pick, sir? It's funny you say that because my number one is regular Starfield. first um It's funny. um No, I um came in with very, very high expectations. ah As you many people know, I love Fallout. Absolutely adore Fallout.
01:02:31
Speaker
um It's one of my favorite franchises. Plus, I had played The Outer Worlds, which is one of my favorite games of all time. And The Outer Worlds is exactly the space game that we all desired out of Starfield.
01:02:44
Speaker
um It was not barren. The Outer Worlds was not barren. I know it took place in space, but there's a million... Not a million. There are several planets to travel to. They are crazily populated. crazyly populated they were enemies all over the place. There's lore everywhere. And this is exactly what I wanted out of Starfield, and I didn't get that. Starfield felt...
01:03:01
Speaker
rushed which is crazy because they took forever to develop it it was announced way too early um it is so unforgettable as a bgs game that i have a hard time remembering really any of the factions like we had said i have a hard time remembering any of the characters the choices that i made this is by far the um second to worst bgs game i've played um yeah I do not.
01:03:26
Speaker
Yeah. Skyrim. Yeah. yeah I really you horrible gaming take. Jesus Christ. Yeah. I really didn't enjoy my time with it. Not that I didn't enjoy my, I had such high expectations that i was like, wow, this is really letting me down. And I, I really feel like if outer worlds wasn't a thing, I probably would have enjoyed it more, but it's just, ah look at obsidian just shows that they can make a better BGS style game than BGS. Yeah.
01:03:54
Speaker
No, that's not true. They don't make the same game at all. The Outer Worlds is not a BGS style game. It's a smaller, hub-based game. Which is much better it. Yeah. Okay, well, I'll give you this. Fallout New Vegas, better than Starfield. Boom, there we go.
01:04:08
Speaker
Fallout New Vegas was awesome, no doubt. yeah um Sean, i can't i so I so can't wait for the Outer Worlds, too, man. We're going to be living it later this year. We're going to have so much fun. It's going to be amazing. That $80 price tag. We're going to join us, right?
01:04:21
Speaker
You're going join I want to, but I also kind of want to play i want to replay the first one because that's one I didn't finish. And so i might I might just hop directly into two, i but we'll we'll see.
01:04:32
Speaker
I do want to play it. we'll We'll see what's on my docket at the time it comes out. That $80 price tag is going to hit. I love it. Game Pass. Game Pass, baby. Game Pass trash.
01:04:46
Speaker
All right, moving on. Hodge, you're up. All right. My second pick, I'm putting it higher, like on the ratio list because the one before it wasn't quality as good. So I'm putting, I'm doing Halo 5. Good pick.
01:05:04
Speaker
um the Worst campaign I might have ever played in my life. I hate this campaign so much. It's terrible. Go play Nuts Strattie Adventure.
01:05:16
Speaker
I'd rather play that campaign. um It ends on a cliffhanger that's never resolved because it was so bad that they dropped it. i And it was just horrendous. I didn't even play the multiplayer because also the multiplayer, they added like booster packs and shit like and I was like this isn't Halo this isn't I know if ah well our boy Stevie doesn't listen to this so he's not gonna hear me saying any of this but I I can't I couldn't stand that game I hated it so much and the only reason why it's not like number one for me is because even though I loved Halo 4 it was a step down from the Bungie game so it was it wasn't too much of a surprise that 5 was a step down from 4
01:06:00
Speaker
But ah even though, like I said, I put a lot of time into Halo 4 SWAT. I loved playing that online so much. And the campaign wasn't that bad. It's just the Bungie trilogy is 30 times better.
01:06:12
Speaker
But ah yeah, Halo 5, I fucking hated this game so much. It was one of the biggest letdowns I've ever had. I played, the only reason I finished it was because me and my brother were co-oping the entire Halo series. And so we had to get through it because it's part of the series.
01:06:29
Speaker
And, ah i I hate this game so much. So, yeah, it was a huge disappointment for me. Sean? so but This was Claire's number one pick for her most disappointing game was Halo 5.
01:06:43
Speaker
ah She was very similar to you. She really hated it. um She hates the campaign, absolutely despises it, thinks it's atrocious. It's it's a travesty to Halo. Like you said, Halo 4... I think Halo 4 is underrated. Very underrated game. yeah Not anywhere close not close to that Halo, you know, that Bungie trilogy, but still a very competent ah FPS. But it's funny that Halo 5, people really liked the multiplayer, actually. Like, people, like, love the multiplayer,
01:07:09
Speaker
of Halo 5. A lot of people liked it. I understand that people do, but I don't understand it. like No, but yeah, the campaign was terrible. This is like, um remember playing through the Halo games like for the first time, and Claire was like, just wait till you get to 5.
01:07:21
Speaker
You're not going to like it. She has the one game she refused to play with me. She's like, we played them all co-op. And she's like, I'm not replaying 5. I'm like, really? She's like, nope, you've to play it yourself. And I got about halfway through and was like wow, this is really bad.
01:07:33
Speaker
like i am it's not enjoying it it's like a it takes everything they already established about like chief and just about the spartans in general and just everyone in the like the lore and just completely throws it out the window yeah it's really bad horrible like i don't know what they were thinking I didn't even play it.
01:07:52
Speaker
ah It was so bad from what I what i saw and heard that I just didn't even bother. I never played the campaign for Halo 5. And the multiplayer, I didn't play either. I played like a beta. I played the beta for the multiplayer, and I was like, this is okay, but it's kind of mid. I just completely skipped this game.
01:08:07
Speaker
i was like But I did i did like 4. 4 was pretty solid. 4's great. 4 slept on. It's not as good as 1, 2, and 3, but it's very good. yeah And I liked the story. Shout out to Cortana. Yeah.
01:08:17
Speaker
Yeah, I thought it was a really good, especially for Cortana. I thought it was a good story in that sense. but And I am a Cortana simp. I like Cortana. Yeah. all right. Good pick. All right, so I'm up, and I'm going to keep it in the same vein with the shooters.
01:08:32
Speaker
And what I have here is I put every Call of Duty since Black Ops 2, with the exception of Black Ops 3 and 4, because I actually like those ones. So I'm talking about Ghost, Advanced Warfare, Infinite Warfare. I'm talking about Modern Warfare 1, 2, 3, Cold War. All this crap that they're coming out with now is shit.
01:08:51
Speaker
It's trash. ah They haven't made a good Call of Duty since then. The map design... Nah, it sucks. that that That omnidirectional movement is so bad, dude. it's I liked it. I mean, I fell off of it because I fall off of every Call of Duty once it gets sweaty enough, but... You would not like it if you played with me. Trust me.
01:09:08
Speaker
ah um I just, I hate it, man. i the The skill-based matchmaking in the Call of Duty games ruins it. Every game is a fucking sweat fest. It's like you're playing for a million-dollar tournament, but you don't get any money. Instead, you just get suffering. You just can't like get angry. It's horrible.
01:09:22
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. It's not fun. The map design is so bad. The chaotic ass maps. You can't see people. There's a million flank routes. You're just getting a shot. There's a very famous funny clip, at least in the Call of Duty community.
01:09:33
Speaker
um And I think it was Modern Warfare 1 or something. Where like this dude's like trying to cross the street. um And he like literally looks like eight different places before crossing the street. And then he looks another time. And then he runs across the street and he gets sniped by a dude that was in a window that he couldn't see.
01:09:47
Speaker
Like it's so crazy. Fuck Call of Duty. Call Duty sucks now, but Black Ops 2 was awesome. 3 and 4 also I enjoyed. So that's my pick.
01:09:58
Speaker
Isn't 4 the multiplayer only game? Yeah, there was no campaign. I've never cared about campaign for Cogs. It was multiplayer and Battle Royale. That's when they introduced the Call of Duty Black Ops.
01:10:10
Speaker
Yeah. But that multiplayer was a lot of fun. 4 was. Yeah. So which one would you say is the worst since then, though? ah Black Ops 6.
01:10:23
Speaker
like The new one, Black Ops 6. Because I was really excited for it, and I just can't. It's so not fun. It's so crazy. I just wanted to know which which which image I should put in the graphics, so going to do Black Ops 6. Probably Black Ops 6, yeah.
01:10:36
Speaker
Black Ops 6. Oh, you put it the wrong section. I thought that was my cursor. All right, Sean, you're up, unless you have any more bars, but go ahead. All right, will with my number two here, and this is... a
01:10:52
Speaker
Fitting for my shirt, it's a Yoshi's New Island. This is a 3DS game. This is the third game in the Yoshi's Island series. We had Yoshi's Island, of course, the beloved Super Nintendo game that is fabulous.
01:11:07
Speaker
We had the not-so-beloved Yoshi's Island DS, which is actually... um It's alright. Not and great. But then we had Yoshi's New Island on 3DS, and I was super hyped for this game because I am a Yoshi fan.
01:11:19
Speaker
I know Yoshi games are not that good. um I know that every single time they release a Yoshi game, I am excited and I am disappointed. it New Island was a beyond a disappointment. This game was so bad. The level design was so bland. Every level was basically the same thing.
01:11:37
Speaker
um There was no like variation in the 2D platforming backgrounds. um The environments were so boring. Nothing was new about this game. And it was literally, it felt like a carbon copy and paste of Yoshi's Island DS.
01:11:54
Speaker
And it was really disappointing. But I will continue to buy my Yoshi games day one because i love Yoshi. I got a question for you. Was that... So you said you're always buying them and always disappointed. Was that Crafted World game not good? It looked fun. No, Crafted World was good. That's what I actually wanted to buy. I never did. Wooly World. So Wooly World is really good. Crafted World okay, but they didn't really change much from Wooly World.
01:12:19
Speaker
So like it was almost like the same thing. Because I was debating getting that in Crafted World one day. Crafted World is really good. Okay. But this this this game was not not the best.
01:12:31
Speaker
Yeah, I've never played this one. I've never played it yesterday. 2014. One of these days, they're going to come Yoshi's going to come out with his Elden Ring, his Breath of the Wild. like it's going to have That masterpiece game is going to come out. They already did. It's called Yoshi's Story.
01:12:49
Speaker
Yoshi and Mario Baseball, right? It happened to... mar happened you You loved him, right? First pick, always. There you go. It happened to Kirby with Forgotten Land. That game was awesome.
01:13:01
Speaker
I can't wait to play the... i saw When I saw that we were wrong and they do have an upgrade path for it, I was like, oh, I'm buying that. I'm totally getting back into Kirby. I can't wait. Just give me my Meta Knight game.
01:13:13
Speaker
ah Speaking, by the way, of Nintendo, real quick shout out to all three of us. We all got our Switch 2s, right? Yeah. Yeah, we got the pre-orders, baby. You're such a faker, man. I'm not getting one.
01:13:23
Speaker
No, it was me. Midnight said he was going to get one. I don't care. Midnight's not even going to play it. Why am I getting thrown under the bus when Hodge is one hating on it? because you're You're not even going to play it. I know you. You're not going play it. You're going play like one Nintendo game. You're like, it was games for kids.
01:13:40
Speaker
No, dude, I cannot wait. You I'm going to play Fire Emblem. I love Fire Emblem. Where's my story? So I, as everyone knows, I was upset with the pricing of it all that. Even though I wasn't upset, I never was upset with the console. I always expected it to be.
01:13:53
Speaker
But no, I was upset at the game price, which is why I said I'll only get one if I can get a Mario Kart World one. And I was able to get one. So I was very happy. And my other condition was I needed to get a new job, which I did. And I'm starting a new job soon.
01:14:04
Speaker
Where's my story? This man spent 40 minutes shitting on Nintendo. Oh, they deserved it. And the Switch, too. And then he he yeah that he bought three of them. Well, yeah. Well, I got one for our buddy RK128 of the ILP clan. And ah the other one I'm either going to cancel or flip. I don't know yet. but Did um you guys get any accessories?
01:14:28
Speaker
I'm debating getting the camera. I'm going to get the Pro Controller. I will. already have the Switch 1 Pro Controller, so I don't need to get the new one. I'm an idiot, and I got the Pro Controller. I got the GameCube Controller.
01:14:41
Speaker
I thought the GameCube controller wasn't for sale yet. You can pre-order it on Japanese website. ah i'm just gonna I'll just wait for it. i don't think it's going to sell out. but ah I have the N64 controller and I'm debating getting the SNES and the NES controllers. ah yeah dude well cause i have I play Mario Kart 64 with my friends um like on a... That atrocious game?
01:15:05
Speaker
You're were insane. It's so much fun. That game is so bad compared to... like It does not hold up at all. No, I mean, Mario Kart 8 is better, but 64 just has the memories, and my friends are so good at it because that's all we played when we were growing up, so it's so much fun to play that with them.
01:15:19
Speaker
But I cannot wait for Mario Kart World, man. It's going so much fun. It's funny because like I'm not hyped for Mario Kart World. I'm not a big Mario Kart guy. I can't wait. I enjoy Mario Kart, but I'm not like super hyped for it.
01:15:34
Speaker
yeah I think you're probably right. I think the only game that honestly I'm excited about from Nintendo is Fire Emblem. Like, I don't really care that much about Zelda. I don't care about... I've never played Smash Brothers. I think you'd probably play that.
01:15:46
Speaker
I think you'd like Breath of the Wild and Tears. I haven't played Tears yet, but I think you'd like Breath of the Wild. problem I think you would like... again so You know what I think you would like? i think you would like Animal Crossing. the real the real ac The real AC game. screw it could be like but You could be like our friends in Discord. I'm not 12. can't wait to play Cyberpunk on Switch. like If I wanted to play Animal Crossing, I could just play Yakuza Infinite Wealth because they put that in there as a minigame, apparently.
01:16:13
Speaker
Don't trash talk. We can all play Splatoon. We'll have a Splatoon night, okay? There we go. Splatoon, baby. That's right up your alley. Nice multiplayer bra shooter. I tried Splatoon. Now I'm going to play Fire Emblem, no doubt.
01:16:25
Speaker
I'll probably play a little Pokemon. um i will I will try some of these other games. I'll try Zelda. um I don't know. The Zelda. But i it probably won't get used that much, Sean is right. But I'll use it a bit.
01:16:38
Speaker
No, I'm excited. i'm excited I'm excited for you guys. Yeah. All right. So that was a fun sidebar. Let's get back to it. Unless you guys have more. But Hodge, you were up next.
01:16:50
Speaker
Um, next up was, it was a game I was hyped for, for a long time, ever since it was shown as everyone knows, I love myself. My, I love me some indie games. So I was very hyped when this one was announced at one of the Xbox showcases and it came out and it was glitched and my, uh, my save got corrupted. And that is the last case of Benedict Fox.
01:17:11
Speaker
Ooh. I was so hyped for this game because the the setting is like this dark, ah gothic look, and it's like a murder mystery. street I don't know. it was ah just a really cool concept, and it was it was a fun game while I was playing it.
01:17:28
Speaker
But then one day I go to turn it off to go to bed, next day I turn it on and I'm back at the beginning of the game and I don't have a save file anymore. And I was so angry that I just turned it off and never played it again. But when I was looking through all my games earlier, like trying to think of other ones that I wanted to put on this list, I saw it said last case of Benedict Fox, like definitive edition. So I wonder if it got fixed and maybe one day I'll hop into it again. But I was so pissed off that I put like, i don't know, it's probably like six, eight hours into it, but
01:18:01
Speaker
The fact that it all got wiped out, I was so angry that I'm like, fuck this game. And I just walked away from it. So I was I was so hyped for it. And it ended up I don't think it rated that well. I think it was better. Like the gameplay was better than how it rated. But or reviewed. But ah yeah, that glitch just ruined the game for me. And I was like, I'm done. I'm not playing this anymore.
01:18:26
Speaker
So that that really made me a sad, sad boy. ah yeah All right. I never played that, so I got nothing to say. Sean, do you have anything on that before we move on? No, art style looks cool, but I never played it.
01:18:40
Speaker
All right. So my third pick, this is going be a game for my beloved Bioware. And it's not going to be the Veil Guard, although I considered it because the Veil Guard was a letdown as well, but for different reasons. I still liked it, but, you know, we're um we're not going to get into it.
01:18:56
Speaker
ah Stupid trans bullshit. No. Mass Effect Andromeda. Mass Effect Andromeda is my pick here ah because this game came out... And it was pretty mid for a Mass Effect game.
01:19:09
Speaker
If this game had come out from like random Studio Z, I would have been like, oh, this is pretty awesome, man. This is like a kind of like a slightly mid watered down Mass Effect, but it's pretty good. Like, I like it. But unfortunately, this came out from Bioware and it was a Mass Effect game and it was slightly mid and watered down.
01:19:25
Speaker
And it also didn't help that it came out like kind of in a mess, like with the lazy eyes and the buggy faces and stuff. um That didn't help either. um I do think this actually is a good game. If you actually go back and play it now, like with the proper expectations that you're not getting a masterpiece like the first three, um it is a fun game. The combat's fun. I think the story is pretty decent.
01:19:45
Speaker
um The characters are are decent. um it's just It was just kind of mid. like They only introduced like two aliens. You're in a whole freaking Andromeda galaxy and there's two aliens. There's one good and one bad and that's it.
01:19:58
Speaker
um And it's just, I don't know. It was just kind of mid- Like it's it's like a very 7.8 out of 10 ass game. um It's not Mass Effect. Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3 are masterpiece games. All three of them are.
01:20:11
Speaker
Mass Effect 3 is my favorite game of all time, basically. ah This was not that. This was not that. ah So yeah, that's my that's my pick three. Any thoughts on this, boys?
01:20:22
Speaker
Clancy Brown's in this game? I don't even who that is. Mr. Krabs. Mr. Krabs. Mr. Krabs. He's also in... yeah um um I couldn't tell you. I'll tell you in a second. ah oh He plays Alec Ryder.
01:20:41
Speaker
oh okay. Isn't that the main character, I think? I don't know. He's also in Detroit Become Human. And he's in Sly, and he's in... ja He's in a lot of games. Holy crap. wow Yeah, he's a good voice actor. Yeah.
01:20:52
Speaker
Um... there you go. Yeah, no, i never I never played Mass Effect until a couple years ago. I finally played the first one. Loved it, by the way. But I fell off Mass Effect 2 because I think that's right around something else came out or I started school. I don't remember what it was, but I wasn't able to finish 2 and 3. But I do want to go back to them eventually. But yeah, I heard i do remember all the Mass Effect fans being very upset that this game did not live up to what that original trilogy did. So I definitely understand you have that on your list, especially you, the diehard Mass Effect fan. So, yeah.
01:21:28
Speaker
Good game, but not ah not a good Mass Effect at all. Yeah. like Like I said, if this literally was another studio, it would probably be like one of my sleeper beloved games. But this was not a Mass Effect level game at all.
01:21:38
Speaker
So, yeah. All right, Sean, take it away, sir. All right. my number three is another Nintendo game, unfortunately. And this is...
01:21:51
Speaker
Mario Sports Superstars. This is 3DS game that came out about two weeks after Switch came out. um And this is a Mario game that for 3DS that consists of five different sports games. It has football or soccer, baseball, tennis, golf, and horse racing.
01:22:11
Speaker
And these are incredibly watered down versions of these sports games. We had our great Mario baseball games. We had our even great Mario tennis, our Mario golf, and our Mario soccer games. Never had horse racing before, but I'm sure if Nintendo made a standalone Mario horse racing game would be great.
01:22:29
Speaker
But when you put all five of them into one package for the 3DS and say, hey, we're going to release this after the Switch comes out. Oh my gosh, it was so bad. It was like playing, trying to play like MLB, like 2K11 on a DS.
01:22:44
Speaker
It was so bad. um the animations were so slow. I swear to God, this game ran at like 15 frames per second. um The baseball was so boring. The soccer was so boring. There's like no power-ups in it. There's no, there's nothing that screams like, oh my gosh, this is a Mario game.
01:22:59
Speaker
There is also nothing that makes it stand out like a good sports game. This is a travesty to all the sports games. And I wanted this to do so well because we all know how much I love my Mario baseball and my Mario golf and my Mario tennis.
01:23:13
Speaker
But nope. This game was awful, and the horse racing was awful, too. So bad. This was like, honestly, i got this day one, and I'm like, wow, this this might make this might kill all Mario sports games.
01:23:27
Speaker
but So bad. she Yeah, I never... i had i have a 3DS, and it's right there. ah But I never played this one. It's so My favorite Ocarina Time but um a a time three d but The only Mario game I really played on 3DS was Mario Kart 7, which I really like. Great game. Good game. Yeah.
01:23:51
Speaker
Me and my cousin, we both have 3DS and we used to play it online together. We thought that was so cool being able to play a handheld game. ah ah Online, but yeah, I really loved that. But yeah, it sucks that the, I feel like, I feel like Mario sports games are like, not, not like title Mario sports, but like Mario sports games. is general Like, I feel like they're either really good or just not good at all.
01:24:14
Speaker
They're either like fantastic, like the golf game on GameCube was awesome. and The tennis game on GameCube was awesome. But then like you have the golf game on Wii, I mean on Switch, which is like, her i guess it was horrendous. Yeah, I heard that. I remember hearing that. The tennis game was like so bad.
01:24:27
Speaker
Yeah. I don't know. Very hit or miss. Yeah.
01:24:32
Speaker
Okay. and Good stuff. Yeah, I feel like that that game probably was just like, they're like, listen, development's running on. Just ship the damn thing. Nobody's going to care. The Switch is out. Just put it out and let's move on. yeah yeah um yeah Yeah. The best game ever on the 3DS, by the way, is Fire Emblem Awakening. So go play that game, everybody.
01:24:53
Speaker
Shout out to Sean's Fire Alarm. Man, it's been a while since it's head effing. Love. I thought I heard it earlier, but maybe not. ah I don't know if it went off today. Josh Fire Emblem loves Fire Emblem Awakening. Dude, fire takes your Fire Emblem.
01:25:07
Speaker
Hell yeah. Game's so hot. That's good. All right. right, Hodge, you're up. All right, my last i one. So this one...
01:25:19
Speaker
This wasn't a bad game, but it was by far my biggest disappointment because this game was announced. Let me see how many years it was. Jesus. You better not say Kingdom Hearts 3. You better not say Kingdom Hearts 3.
01:25:36
Speaker
Please say Kingdom Hearts 3. Please Kingdom Hearts 3. It was announced 10 years before it came out, and that It's Kingdom Hearts 3. It came out... It was announced as Final Fantasy Versus I knew were to say Final Fantasy Versus ended up coming out as Final Fantasy XV, and I remember because... so as you guys know, as we talked about earlier, I'm not a biggest turn-based guy. I loved Final Fantasy VII as a kid, but that's really the only turn-based game, and obviously Pokemon.
01:26:02
Speaker
that I ever really cared about. And so when they announced, Hey, we're coming out of the final fancy game that has the kingdom hearts, uh, gameplay style. I was like, what? what an action adventure RPG, final fantasy. I am all in. So I was hyped for this game for literally a decade.
01:26:21
Speaker
And when it came out, I got it. I even bought the movie before it came out. I watched the Kingsglaive and I was like, Oh, this looks, I mean, it's an interesting setup to the story. So I guess we'll see, you know, what happens or whatever, but,
01:26:35
Speaker
I get the game and all I'm doing is cooking food and driving around in the car with my friends. and I'm like, this game is fucking terrible. And I turned it off and I played, i don't know, probably four or five hours of it I'm like, was it hold X to attack? And I'm just like, this is not good.
01:26:52
Speaker
And I was so upset. I even played the demo and I thought i was like, okay, it looks pretty fun. and It might be fun. This demo is not bad. And then the game came out and I was just like, well, we had 10 years for this. Hey,
01:27:05
Speaker
Awesome. And like I understand there are some people who like Final Fantasy 15. I'm not one of them. And so after a decade of hype of wanting versus 13 and then it being renamed to 15, I was super excited for this game and it came out and it completely did not match what I wanted it to be. So I will say that is probably my biggest disappointment.
01:27:27
Speaker
Hodge, do I have a game for you then? If you want a Final Fantasy game with Kingdom Hearts Combat, go play Final Fantasy 16. You will freaking love this game. I think you'll actually... You don't know what? Now that think of it, you will love Final Fantasy 16.
01:27:40
Speaker
No, probably. It's actually one I've been wanting to play. well You will freaking love i don't know about that. i i felt i I played the demo and I actually really enjoyed it, but I just... I can't remember what...
01:27:52
Speaker
Joshua! I didn't i don't know remember why i I didn't play it when it came out, but there was some reason I didn't play it. I don't know. I think I love it. Hodge is kind of quick to drop games is one thing I've noticed, and I feel like Final Fantasy XVI is a game that gets better the deeper you go. The combat kind of sucks in the beginning, and then gets better when you get more abilities. He likes likes Kingdom Hearts. I think he'll like it.
01:28:14
Speaker
I liked, no, like I said, I played the demo and I liked it. So I, I could, so I, yeah, I, well, I am quick to drop games because if I'm not enjoying it, I'm not going to waste my time, but I don't have much time to game anymore. So when I, I want to play games, I enjoy, but no, I, I have been interested in 16. I've just never gotten around to it. And I do want to get to it eventually.
01:28:35
Speaker
ah who knows, maybe it'll be a PlayStation plus game eventually, but I do want to play it. I'll get to it eventually. It it looks awesome. So, But yeah, no, 15 was a colossal letdown for me, though.
01:28:47
Speaker
I like 15. It's not my favorite Final Fantasy. It's not in the top half of my Final Fantasy games, but it definitely disappointed me in terms of my hype level, but I still enjoyed it. it Yeah.
01:28:59
Speaker
Yeah, it's only because this is like the game I think about where it was literally like a decade of me just waiting for this game to come out. I was so excited for it. Just a Final Fantasy game of Kingdom Hearts gameplay. Like, oh, my God, like.
01:29:11
Speaker
That was my favorite thing is that Kingdom Hearts wasn't a turn-based game. It was just an action-adventure RPG, and it was so much fun. and So I wanted that in a Final Fantasy game, and then I got this. I'm telling you, Final Fantasy XVI.
01:29:23
Speaker
Yeah, I'll get to it eventually. first yeah I mean, I also do strongly recommend Final Fantasy 16. I loved it. ah Final Fantasy 16 was my co-game of the year, the year it came out.
01:29:35
Speaker
those Along with Starfield, actually. Like, I enjoyed Starfield, but was also let down by it. But anyway. um All right. We good? Moving on? I didn't play Final Fantasy 15, by the way. i've I've seen it so many times on every subscription service. It's been in Game Pass. It's been in PS Plus. like It's free. I could play it.
01:29:53
Speaker
ah But I just still am like, eh, I'm good. It's funny. Every every time and like a Black Friday sale or whatever, it'll be like the Final Fantasy 15 Complete Edition, $4.99. It's just like, damn, they really want you to buy this game.
01:30:06
Speaker
It's like, nah, I'm good. Thanks, though. Yeah. All right, my number one pick, or really number four, but my most anticipated that disappointed me game is one that I know you guys will have nothing to say about because you don't care and you didn't play this back then.
01:30:21
Speaker
But I've talked about this many times before. ah There was a game that I loved so much, so much, Dark Age of Camelot, awesome MMORPG. So good from Mythic Entertainment.
01:30:32
Speaker
One of the biggest MMOs ever made. It's actually still ongoing somehow. I don't know how. It's still ongoing. There are still people playing it. ah Their follow-up game, they were purchased by ea They were put on the Warhammer i p Warhammer obviously is huge, right?
01:30:47
Speaker
um And they were going to make this game. They did make this game called Warhammer Online is the name of the game. Sean, if you want to write down. Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning. This was an MMO that came out in 2008, published by Electronic Arts and developed by Mythic Entertainment, an awesome studio that they shut down.
01:31:06
Speaker
Fuck you, EA. Yeah. um This game was going to be the WoW killer. it was It was like, oh, it's going to be so good. It's going to kill World of Warcraft. It's going to be awesome. The game came out. It sold over a million copies, which was amazing. but We're talking about 2008 for an MMO.
01:31:20
Speaker
It had over 800,000 subscribers, but quickly within a few months, they were down to 300,000, and then it just kept dropping and dropping. like This game was quite mid. um like The PvP was horrible in this game, and that was something that Mythic had really excelled in. Dark Asia came out, has awesome player-vers-player combat.
01:31:37
Speaker
um Like, it's a whole realm versus realm system where there's, like, three different factions and you fight over the map and can take keeps and, like, war and stuff, and it's awesome. This Warhammer Online was so mid.
01:31:47
Speaker
I didn't like it at all. Like, I played it a couple months. Me and my friend both were super hyped, and we both dropped it. We were like, yeah, this ain't it. Like, it was, like, instance-based, weird leveling. ah Like, the PvP was horrible.
01:32:00
Speaker
um There was no real so no real skin in the game, no real stakes to it. um It just felt like... copy and paste of World of Warcraft but with a bunch of shit on top of it like it just wasn't good um and that's why the game failed and then Electronic Arts they day shut down Mythic I was pissed off I hate them I'm still mad about that.
01:32:21
Speaker
So that's my pick. I know you guys really have nothing to say about this, but any chads out there who played Dark Age of Camelot, ah fans of Mythic back in the day, let me know in the comments if if you exist.
01:32:32
Speaker
Warhammer Online, huge disappointment. Shame. Shame. No, yeah, obviously, yeah, nothing to say about that one. Go play a real MMO called Club Penguin.
01:32:47
Speaker
That was probably better, honestly. um Sean, you are up, sir. My number four, another Nintendo game. Whoa. And this is Mario and Luigi Paper Jam.
01:33:02
Speaker
Now we all know I love my RPGs. It's colon paper jam, by the way, colon paper jam. um We all know I love my RPGs. I love my Paper Mario games. I love my Mario and Luigi games.
01:33:14
Speaker
Now, this would be a perfect match in heaven. You're mismatching two of my favorite series. Mario and Luigi, a spiritual successor to Paper Mario. Let's put them together. It'll be great. No! This was awful.
01:33:26
Speaker
The story was terrible. It... Basically took Paper Mario out of a storybook and threw him in the Mario and Luigi world and said, hey, we're going to take the combat you love and not make it the combat you love. It's not going to be the traditional turn-based button-timed combat that you love from Paper Mario and that you love from Mario and Luigi. No, we're just going to make it a combination of Paper Mario Sticker Star, which game was terrible as well. It could have made my list.
01:33:53
Speaker
And we're just going to throw some new elements in there. Oh yeah, we're going to tell this weird story. We're not going have fun dialogue. We're not going to have the witty humor that we always have in these Mario RPGs. No, we're going to be bland and boring.
01:34:05
Speaker
Great game. Not. i ended up. um Yeah, I played this game. I gave it away. i'm like, I'm good with this. I'm done with it. I don't even want to see you again. least So do you guys have no idea how hyped I was for this game. I pre-ordered it and so ready. I got all like the planade they did like pre-order merch for this game was great. And no, no, it's terrible.
01:34:27
Speaker
ah Speaking of something that could have made my list that that I pre-ordered was the the Destiny Collector's Edition. I had the one that came with a ghost and everything. And that was... Yeah, that's the worst.
01:34:39
Speaker
I thought it was fine. I played it up until I got into the light levels. And then it just got so savey and so boring that i ended up dropping it and then I never bothered with Destiny 2. But that's that's the worst when you get like super hyped and you pre-order something or you buy like a better version of it. And and then you get it and like,
01:34:56
Speaker
Oh my God. Why did i spend that money? Like I, I actually thankfully canceled it, but I had pre-ordered the collector's edition that came with the statue of Callisto protocol. And thankfully I canceled that one because that game did not do well.

So, but yeah, that's the worst when you're like, when you're hyped and then you pre-order it, which is why I never pre-order any game. Like even if I'm hyped for it, I don't pre-order it. I'm like, even if I know it's going to be a banger,
01:35:23
Speaker
Nope. guess other than Mario Kart World, but that's because I came with the console. But yeah, you save $30 there. So yeah. Yeah. I just wasn't feeling this game, you know, just was not on par with the traditional Mario RPGs that I love, unfortunately.
01:35:41
Speaker
So what I'm getting from you, Sean, is that Nintendo makes a lot of mid games. Uh, no, because i will argue that any of these three games I put are better than, um, Starfield Shattered Space, Every COD Since Black Ops 2, Mass Effect Andromeda, and that Warhammer Online Age of Reckoning game. I will argue any of those games are better.
01:36:01
Speaker
um mean, well, we don't know because we, I didn't play the Mario games. Well, I am, I don't know. my game so How do you know i didn't play them? How do you know I was an all into Warhammer, uh, Online Age of Reckoning. Actually, I looked up that mythic that Camelot game. It looked like RuneScape to me.
01:36:16
Speaker
ah No. yeah i mean Well, it came out in 2001. So yeah, it's a bit dated. But actually, for the time, like the graphics were awesome. It had reflective water and stuff. it was great Like I said, play real play a real MMO.
01:36:28
Speaker
Club Penguin or Toontown. No. All right. Well, I have no bars for Mario and Luigi, unfortunately. But I hope they got the paper jam out. Did they ever resolve the paper jam?
01:36:40
Speaker
Yes, they the found it. They fixed the copier. Don't worry. they they can They can print now. Okay, that's good. get They can copy. It's all good. data They had to remove cartridge A, find the paper jam in there. So they had a happy ending at least. They couldn't print because the cyan was low.
01:36:55
Speaker
Yeah. The cyan, yeah. Even though we only print in black and white. Yeah. and All right, boys. So that has been um most disappointing games.
01:37:06
Speaker
um We will maybe revisit this a year from now or something if we want to, because so there's more disappointments to get to. My list was very long.
01:37:15
Speaker
Yeah. um All right. Does anyone have any final thoughts for this topic before we move on and wrap it up? Are you good? A lot of good choices. Yeah. brains I didn't think about.
01:37:26
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. Didn't even consider that Warhammer game. Should have considered that. Well, course not. I only played one Warhammer game and it awesome. Warhammer Space Marine 2. dude there's i can't believe how many warhammer games they come out with dude i swear like every week there's a new warhammer 40k game like what the hell is going on here i haven't played any of them after after we played space marine my cousin was just like oh we should try this one and i went on to like it's like he's like it's on game pass i open up game pass there's like six warhammer games on there i'm like which one is dude they're just shitting out these warhammer games it's insane yeah like
01:38:00
Speaker
Like, I've never seen a franchise get so many games. ah The only one that I'm interested in playing is... I forget the title, so move on. The best Warhammer game is Warhammer Milk Tank.
01:38:12
Speaker
Okay. Yeah, Warhammer Milk Tank. whitney milk tank but um What is the one that's good? Like, it's the CRPG one. Warhammer CRPG.
01:38:26
Speaker
warhammer c rpg If you're talking about slacking, I got a good Pokemon. Road Trader. Road Trader. That's kind of like a, like a Baldur's Gate three type of game. Kind of.
01:38:37
Speaker
All right. Well, that does it for us guys. This has been episode 33 of games over plastic. It's been a really good episode. I had a lot of fun. Let's go around the horn and do our final thoughts. Shall we?
01:38:50
Speaker
ah Let's go ahead and start it off with you. Yoshi. Sean, what's your final thoughts? Anything? My final thoughts are, you know, these are some, you know, we were really hyped for these games. Unfortunately, they did not um come to fruition.
01:39:02
Speaker
I think at a future episode, maybe next episode, we should do games that we were, that surprised us in a good way. Yeah. That's the topic we've had on our list for a while. Kind of kind of go to the positive note.
01:39:14
Speaker
Yeah, I agree. Okay. Definitely. do Let's do it. We'll do that. All right. Hodge final thoughts sur for episode 33. Oh, I like gaming, man. twenty three I want to play some Expedition 33. Well, i was hyped for that one. So I guess it wasn't the big. I mean, it's an episode 33 Expedition 33. Oh, yeah. Expedition. Should I make the the should I make the thumbnail in the font for it?
01:39:40
Speaker

01:39:52
Speaker

01:40:04
Speaker
And my final thoughts are Ubisoft, stop making these games so fucking bloated. Okay. Why, what are you doing? Assassin's Creed shadows is a great game, but you're killing it by burying it with all this other random bullshit that people don't want to do.
01:40:17
Speaker
You're, you're putting too much space between the good content. You're watering down the product. Stop it. Get some help. Okay. I want to beat this game. You know, within the next week I will beat this game and then I will be doing my Claire obscure expeditioning.
01:40:33
Speaker
