Gaming Preferences and RPG Discussions

00:03:56
Speaker
have you been up to? Well, I've been playing these huge RPGs over the past few months. So I replayed New Vegas, or I should say I finished it for the the very first time with all the DLC included because I wanted to make a video on it.
00:04:07
Speaker
And then of course, played Oblivion. And then after I played Oblivion, i also wanted to play Skyrim. But there was also Kingdom Come Deliverance, too. So was kind of sick with these big, huge RPGs. So what I'm playing right now is Midnight Suns on Steam.
00:04:21
Speaker
um People always told me great things about this game, specifically Kog, Lord Kog from LSM and the Iron Lords. um I enjoyed it too. Oh, yeah of course yeah. I think you you also told me about it. So so I'm playing Deadline. I'm really enjoying it. it's it's It's not as deep as as most other RPGs, but that's a good thing, I think, because I was getting pretty sick of these big open world massive RPGs. So I'm i'm very happy with this game. It's a fun turn-based XCOM-like game.
00:04:49
Speaker
Very great. Very good.
00:04:53
Speaker
Yeah, I played that too. I enjoyed, you know, I look i like Firaxis, as I know you do too. Yes. And ah yeah, I mean, the combat is like a simplified XCOM with like card base. um The social sim elements I thought were kind of corny, but um I do, it I did enjoy, I had a lot of fun going back to the base and like upgrading and ah playing with your card deck and stuff. That was fun.
00:05:13
Speaker
um Who's your favorite hero to use? Oh, I'm i'm only ah my favorite hero to use is myself, the the hunter. You can mold move it better. But I love Blade. I always love Blade.
00:05:24
Speaker
So on that's that's awesome. I also think like the social links are, you're right, it's very corny, it's very cheesy, but it's also very wholesome. Like it's not a game yeah have to think about very hard or you have to, it's basically like watching a movie half the time.
00:05:37
Speaker
So i'm I'm kind of enjoying it, but I don't, how long is it? Because you already finished it, right? Of course. Oh God, man. I don't remember. i Off the top of my head, I want to say maybe it's like around 30, 40 hours, but I'm kind of guessing a little bit.
00:05:51
Speaker
All right. um I think my favorite character was Nico. Isn't that like kind of like the goth chick? Yeah. yeah She has really powerful magic. Later on, when you get her powerful cards, like, she has really powerful magic that'll hit, like, multiple targets and just mess stuff up.
00:06:06
Speaker
um And she was really fun, so.

Game Development and 'Midnight Suns' Gameplay

00:06:08
Speaker
Oh, cool. She's one of the characters from the actual comics, right? Because I think that's pretty cool that they don't rely on the movies, but they really pull stuff from the comics, which is better than what the and what the other Avengers game tried to do a couple of years ago. Remember?
00:06:21
Speaker
Mm-hmm. I didn't play that one. Sorry?
00:06:28
Speaker
but What did you say, Sean? That mess of a game. Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. All right. So Midnight Suns. ah Hodge or Sean, do you guys have any thoughts on that before move on?
00:06:41
Speaker
I've never played it I heard such good things, though. Yeah. And I've always, i you know, I own it on PlayStation. It was on the PlayStation Plus collection at one point. yeah I got it through PS Plus.
00:06:52
Speaker
So i don't know. I'll give it a try one day. But it seems like it's a fun game. and it reminds me of um like you like ah the XCOM combat, you know, same devs. And yeah, maybe I'll give it a try.
00:07:04
Speaker
Not the biggest superhero guy, but, you know. Yeah, i recommend it. I think it's a good entry point into like an XCOM like game. It's not super complex. Like you're just kind of using cards. And the only thing you'll maybe do is like maneuver like the direction that you hit them in so that they hit an explosive barrel or something.
00:07:19
Speaker
it's It's very intuitive, but it's fun. I enjoyed it. Yeah. All right. You satisfied with that, Denlock? Yeah, yeah, sure. Yeah, thank you. Thank you for your contribution. And that was all you're playing currently?
00:07:31
Speaker
Yes, right now. Well, I'm also playing Star Wars Outlaws, but that's like a project that's going to take months and months and months because I'm going record it or I'm going to make a video. So that'll be something. But yeah, mostly Midnight Suns.
00:07:44
Speaker
Cool. All right, I'll get into what I'm playing now. I am playing Claire Obscure Expedition 33, and this game is awesome.
00:07:55
Speaker
I love this game very much. um I am at the very end of Act 2 right now, um and some crazy stuff just happened, but then i had to go to bed, because it was after 1am, and I'm like, all right.
00:08:08
Speaker
I wanted to fit fully finish Act 2, but... um but I'm like, it's after 1am. I was like, I gotta to stop. Um, so, but it's awesome. I love the game. I like the combat. The combat is pretty fun with the turn-based.
00:08:21
Speaker
Um, my favorite character is Lune. I love Lune. Um, not only is she waifu, if you will, but I really enjoy her combat too. Like her archmage, uh, uh, you know, I'd like to start off the fight with that, uh,
00:08:35
Speaker
the area of effect fire damage that puts the burn on them, like the wildfire or whatever. And then I follow it up with this frost attack that hits them twice and gives you four AP back. And then after that, you can do the lightning dance on them, which hits them like six times. It does a ton of damage. Like it'll max out the nine, nine, nine, nine. Currently that's the current max damage like six times and it'll just melt ah enemies and it's really strong. So she's been carrying me a lot.
00:08:59
Speaker
um I'm using CL. She's my support. I have her set up to basically be a support. um She gives the team AP and power and stuff, and she does a little damage. um And then I'm using another character that I'm not going to spoil because it's someone that you get later. ah So I'm using another character later who can kind of take over forms of ah of of enemies and stuff. And that's super fun.
00:09:20
Speaker
And that's all I'll say. um I like all the characters. Gustave is awesome. Maelle is awesome. I love Maelle because she's voiced by Shadowheart. um You know, I love Shadowheart as everyone does.
00:09:34
Speaker
Everyone who played Baldur's Gate loves Shadowheart. ah So what's her name? ah English? Something English. Jennifer englishfer English. She's a really good voice actor. um Like there were moments, there were moments where Mayel was like really shaken by something that happened.
00:09:50
Speaker
And she played that so well that it actually gave me anxiety. Like you could hear her like breathing and like, like having a panic attack kind of sounds. And it was so well done that it made me anxious. um So she's awesome.
00:10:02
Speaker
And then Ben Star, Verso, of course, is amazing. Every character is awesome. I literally love every single character. Like there's not one that sucks. um And I'm using all of them in combat. I'm switching in and out.
00:10:13
Speaker
But my core party, like I said, is Lunay, CL, and this person that you pick up later that I won't spoil who they are. um

Experiences with 'Expedition 33'

00:10:24
Speaker
But yeah, so that's Expedition 33. I'll have more to say when I actually beat it. I'm not going spoil anything.
00:10:29
Speaker
But it is awesome. That's what I'll say. Yeah, the game's fantastic. ah Like, you know, Hodge and I did our spoiler cast last week. And we, you know, spewed for almost an hour and a half to almost two hours about how um good the game was. went over the plot, went over all the characters, completely dove in. And if you want more thoughts on that and you've beaten the game, go listen to that. But I totally agree with you, Midnight, with all the characters. They're so good. All of them are...
00:10:55
Speaker
they're all so compelling. and I love how each one has their own like distinct, unique thing with the combat. Um, they each have something that the other ones don't have. So for example, like Verso has, uh, the, um, the rank system, um,
00:11:11
Speaker
Yeah, I just, I love it. Verso is my favorite character to use. And just, ah I love, I love Ben stars as a voice actor too. I love everything he's done. So him in that game was awesome, but yeah, all the characters so good.
00:11:25
Speaker
Oh, it's so good. Yeah. I haven't used Verso that much because once I picked up that new guy, um you're kind of incentivized to use him so that he can collect skills. all Right. um And I really enjoy using him, but I might actually pretty soon, I might sub in Verso for that third spot. So I might run,
00:11:41
Speaker
Lunay CL Verso and tried that out for a while. I want to mix it up, you know what i mean? um And then like whenever I have to do a 1v1 matchup, like when you have to face like the merchants and stuff, that's when I bring out my own Myo. Myo's a good 1v1 specialist, um I found.
00:11:55
Speaker
um But she's not really in my main party. But yeah. um Hodge, or you want to get into Expedition 33? You got thoughts on that, I think? Yeah, I was just going to say that ah my camera's off. I am not in shape right now.
00:12:09
Speaker
ah That's fine. ah But yeah, I was just going to say me and Sean did our spoiler cast, as he said. ah i finished it. I got everything except three achievements because ah there's one of those good old Final Fantasy-esque side bosses that's harder than any other boss in the game.
00:12:27
Speaker
And I cannot get past him. And one of his is attached to a journal, which getting all the journals is an achievement. So I can't get those two. And then I didn't get to level 99 because that would take forever. So, but yeah, i loved it. that like The third act is pretty quick to finish if you want, but it took me the longest because I was doing everything in the world before I finished it. So it was a game I enjoyed every single moment of. ah And yeah.
00:12:55
Speaker
So yeah, I beat it and I love it and I'll one day play it on PlayStation also. And I think you said in Discord that you you pretty much were rocking with the same core party as me, right? Yeah, I was Lunay CL and you're mystery third man. Yeah, so great minds think alike there, Hajj. We both rocking with the same team. I like that. Lunay was my favorite to play as her partner. Oh, I love Lunay. Awesome.
00:13:16
Speaker
Yeah. she's She's a great, all the characters are great though, honestly. Like i have I have nothing bad to say about a single one of them. They're all well-written, likable and cool. um Yeah. Oh, and I was also,

Nostalgia and Current Gaming Ventures

00:13:28
Speaker
real quickly, I'll mention, because I don't think I mentioned this two weeks ago,
00:13:31
Speaker
I also did finally finish um Assassin's Creed Shadows. I beat the game. I don't think I said that last time, so I'll say it now. I don't have a whole lot more to say. um the game is The game was really fun to play, but it was kind of mid at the same time. Honestly, I would rate it like a 7 out of 10.
00:13:47
Speaker
um It was too bloated. um The story was good, but watered down by all the content around it. like And I'll just leave it at that. like It was fun, but it wasn't an amazing game. um But Expedition 33 And that's what I'm playing. and I'm hot. So if you want to take it away and finish what you're into.
00:14:04
Speaker
Yeah. So other than Expedition 33, I decided to bust out the Xbox 360. And because I was at a disc replay the other day and they obviously have all the retro games. And I found Guitar Hero 3 for Xbox 360.
00:14:19
Speaker
So I went home and i started playing it And I'm like, I forgot how much I love these games because I still have my guitars from back in the day. And so I, i oh man, i but I always got my girlfriend to start playing and she's not very good. Sorry.
00:14:34
Speaker
And then my buddies, we weren't able to play, but they all texted like, we have to do that sometime. So they'll probably come over and play at some point. And just brings me back to the 360 days of all the games were party games. You played with each other for everything. And ah it just brought me back. It's felt so much fun.
00:14:51
Speaker
Is Guitar Hero 3 the one with that was like Rock Band where had all the instruments? um No. ah I think the first one was like Guitar Hero World Tour or something that had the instruments. I think this one was just guitar.
00:15:06
Speaker
But I could be wrong. i just I only have the guitar, so maybe I shouldn't see the options for the others. I've never played Guitar Hero, so... yeah it's it's so much fun and it's funny because i play actual guitar but actual guitar i play right-handed because that's the only guitar i had to play so i just had to learn right-handed but in guitar hero 3 i still play left-handed because that i'm actually naturally a lefty oh yeah but yeah that's all i got all excellent uh sean last but not least what have you been into sir
00:15:41
Speaker
Alright, so I've been playing a little game called Lunar. It's the Lunar Remastered Collection. This is ah classic JRPG, originally released in 1992 for the Sega.
00:15:52
Speaker
ah it was actually for the, one of the, i don't even know. It was re-released for PlayStation and Sega Saturn in like 96. And this is this remaster is that version. So it has like all animated cut scenes like and they were all redone. They redid all the English voice acting. And um I'm really enjoying it. It's a classic, you know, 16 bit era JRPG.
00:16:13
Speaker
ah The world map screams like 16 bit Final Fantasy ah classic turn based combat. um I'm really enjoying it. I'm playing the is collection of two different games. I'm playing the first one right now. I'm not that far in probably like maybe 10 hours in.
00:16:30
Speaker
There's a party of eight. There's eight party members. um They all have their sprites in the overall. And it's such a cozy game for me just because it brings me back to those those JRPGs that I love from that era.
00:16:43
Speaker
um So far, it's great. The menus are beautifully designed. It's not just like a little like text-based menu at the bottom. like You have like little icons. The menu is actually at the top.
00:16:54
Speaker
ah The enemy design is really cool. You can go back and forth between the remastered like graphics and the old style graphics, which is pretty cool. um And you can go back to the old voice acting as well if you would like.
00:17:07
Speaker
um Overall, it's good. I'm enjoying it so far. That's all I can really say right now. um But shout out to my boy Alex. He's the main character. I freaking love him. He's awesome. Classic JRPG story.
00:17:21
Speaker
You're just on a quest. yeah you know You got thrown into this mess and now you have to you know solve it and figure it out. Are you playing it with or without the voice acting?
00:17:32
Speaker
I'm playing it with the voice acting. Okay. yeah I was curious because I know you said sometimes you do like to just read. I know I'm playing it with the voice acting, but like if um like the text is up there, I might just read like the text, but like there's an there's like full on animated cut scenes like it's like a 2D traditional movie and that I don't have the I just listen to the voice acting because you it's it's great.
00:17:53
Speaker
It's really good. um I'm playing it on switch as well. So I'm mainly playing that in handheld mode. Okay.
00:18:04
Speaker
Awesome. um I don't know anyone else has that game. yeah yeah I don't think any of us have thoughts on that. but It's very Weavey.
00:18:14
Speaker
Well, what else have you been playing, sir? Alright, I'm also playing Pokemon Legacy Crystal Edition. um This is a mod that was released about two years ago for Pokemon Crystal and it basically makes the game more difficult, more challenging, kind of like what you remembered playing Pokemon was as a kid because then you go back to it now and you're like, wow, this is a lot easier than I remember.
00:18:36
Speaker
uh it fixes a lot of the um random like the the problem with the leveling Pokemon crystal it also fixes a lot of the move sets it adds in some quality of life features like it gives you running shoes uh it fixes just a lot of like the it's a lot of quality of life stuff but it it keeps the game like the core of what you remember. It also, there's a hard mode on it, so I'm playing in hard mode, so it's like a hardcore Nuzlocke. So if your Pokemon die, like, you can't revive them.
00:19:05
Speaker
um You can't use items in battle. set ah It's on set mode. It's really fun. I'm really, really enjoying it It makes you really strategize. It makes me rethink, because I've played this game so many times, Pokemon Crystal.
00:19:15
Speaker
It makes me re-strategize everything I have to do. Like, I have to go into a battle prepared, because if like I'm not prepared and I don't know what's coming, like, I'm totally screwed. um Overall, it's a great time. I'm playing...
00:19:26
Speaker
I'm about two gyms in right now. I'm rocking with my Totodile. Love my Totodile. My favorite Gen 2 starter. Shout out to Pidgeot. Love my Pidgeot. Yeah, overall, it's it's a great time. Hardcore Nuzlocke.
00:19:39
Speaker
It's great. It's fun. it's It's a lot of fun. I think Hodge would really like it. It might be a little too hard for him, though.
00:19:47
Speaker
Do you want me to comment on that? No, it's up to you. There's a Pokemon. There's a yellow legacy. He did that he did Crystal Legacy, Yellow Legacy, and Emerald Legacy. And it's really cool. I'm going to do yellow yellow next.
00:19:58
Speaker
Oh, nice. Because I'm doing them in the release order. so e Yellow is my... As everyone knows, when we get into it, it was one of my top 10 games of all time. I love that game. but So yeah, I think you would like it, Hodge. I think you would.
00:20:12
Speaker
Nice. Okay. Good stuff. um Speaking of Weeby games, which are on the Nintendo platform, you reminded me, Sean. Look what I went and got. That's right. I got yeah i saw Fire Emblem Engage and Fire Emblem Three Houses for the Switch.
00:20:28
Speaker
I'm ready for the Switch 2. I'm going to play Three Houses first, of course. I'm hoping that this Engage works because it's Peggy 12. It will. It will. It's not region locked. Good, good, good, good.
00:20:40
Speaker
That's what I figured. it was I got it. It was $38, so I had to do it. All right. So that is what we are playing, right? Everyone's ah got their stuff in? Mm-hmm.
00:20:52
Speaker
All right. Let's go ahead and move on to our write-in for the show. And as we

Listener Question: Western JRPG Studios

00:20:57
Speaker
do, Sean Mason, you want to take it away, sir? ah Yeah, sure. I'll read it. This comes from Steady Walnuts.
00:21:04
Speaker
What studio or IP do you want to make a Western JRPG? Interesting. Midnight, you want to take it away? Because you're the Western JRPG lover, you and Locke.
00:21:15
Speaker
you un lock and Lach can go first. Well, I had wrote on there as a joke, like my answer was none because Western RPGs are better than JRPGs. um So, but I mean, I guess if we want to take this question serious, what studio would make a good JRPG type of game?
00:21:32
Speaker
Um... I need to think about it. Someone else take it away. Lock, do you have any thoughts? Yeah, easy. Larian. Larian would make a great JRPG, I think. They already basically, well, they make CRPGs, which are also turn-based, so it would be a slight shift for them, but I think they would do amazing.
00:21:49
Speaker
They're fantastic in the story department and the character department. They already showed that in Baldur's Gate 3. and divinity original sin too so i think they would be perfect for this um maybe they will at some point i don't know but we we still don't know what they're doing right now so maybe um maybe maybe they will do that but i think i think they would do a great job yeah okay all right i'm gonna go ahead and say obsidian entertainment let's have obsidian make a jrpg they always have well for the most part they always have really great narrative chops ah Some people will say the Avowed story wasn't as hot, and i would I would kind of agree. I still thought it was good, but it wasn't as good as it usually is.
00:22:24
Speaker
But I think they could put some great narrative chops to a good JRPG world-ending story, um and I'm sure they could make some fun combat. They've had very versatile combat in the past. Like, Avowed had a whole bunch of weapons.
00:22:35
Speaker
They did the South Park game with some crazy turn-based combat kind of there. um so going to say Obsidian would do a great job. Give us a JRPG in the Pentamint art style. on Oh, my God. That'd be sick. That'd be awesome. Can I ask you a question? What what do you think, as an as an avowed fan, what do you think of the yeah roadmap they put out?
00:22:54
Speaker
I didn't even see it. Oh. What was it? Didn't they just update at the game yesterday with New Game Plus? ah Yeah, they ah they put out a roadmap, and the roadmap is basically... ah patches.
00:23:05
Speaker
So they're going to add like his cosmetics and then summer they'll add like a new UI thing and then In the winter, they will add more hairstyles or whatever. I don't know exactly what's in it, but I just i just wanted to know your thoughts. But you have to see it Tokyo.
00:23:20
Speaker
I mean, I think that's, unfortunately, that's the cost you pay when you have a studio that's making several games. I'm sure they basically shifted their focus to the Outer Worlds 2, which I am more excited about that than Avowed. So I'm cool with it. i ah I don't think Avowed did that well commercially.
00:23:35
Speaker
you know So I'm sure they're like, you know this game came out. It was decent. You know, it was an eight or whatever. ah We got a little bit of play out of it. It didn't do as great as we thought. We're going to move on to The Outer Worlds 2.
00:23:46
Speaker
We're excited. It's going to be great. And i think I think The Outer Worlds 2 will be great. I hope so. I know, Sean, you're excited on that. Oh, I'm so excited for The Outer Worlds 2. Even after the gameplay they showed? i i didn't even watch it. I don't need to see anything else.
00:24:00
Speaker
I'm very scared for that game, to be honest. But I hope it's good. I love the first one. but i First one, top 10 game. I'm very scared that if they don't delay it, it will be a massive flop. Hopefully not. Hopefully I'm wrong.
00:24:11
Speaker
Hopefully I'm wrong. All right. Hodge. ah The question. What studio do you think would make a great Western JRPG? You have a thoughts on that?
00:24:22
Speaker
Remedy. Just because they can do all the weird shit. I can see them doing an awesome one. That's a good answer, actually. Yeah. they You know, they would have great music, good art style, and they're very unique.
00:24:34
Speaker
I like that. ah Sean, I don't think you answered, did you? You're the master of Weebery. What do you think? I want Halo Studios to make a Halo JR feature now.
00:24:45
Speaker
um I don't know. I'd have to go probably go I mean, Larian would be like the ultimate answer. I know that's what Locke said, but ultimately, they absolutely killed it with Baldur's Gate 3, and just the way that they...
00:24:56
Speaker
do storytelling and the way they go in depth with all their characters. I think they do phenomenal job. I could see them making something along the lines of a Claire of here, expedition 33 with given all their talent. And I would love to see that happen.
00:25:14
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, Larry and larryrian is in in my opinion, by far one of the best studios in the world, like at the very top echelon. So if they put their talents to a JRPG type game, I'm sure it would be phenomenal. Yeah.
00:25:27
Speaker
and ah A couple of years ago, I want to say a decade and a half ago, they already made a third-person action RPG, um which was also called Divinity 2, which basically at the same title as the other one. So they know how to do third-person stuff too.
00:25:41
Speaker
So maybe they could blend it and make it like into a clear, obscure thing. Yeah, maybe. We'll see. But we won't see, but it would be cool. yeah Right. All right. Thank you very much, Stevie Walnuts. We appreciate you, sir, for your write-in. That was good. That was fun.
00:25:56
Speaker
And

Top 20 Games List and Personal Favorites

00:25:57
Speaker
with all that being said, let's go ahead and jump in, guys, to our main topic of discussion. Now, for longtime listeners of this show, you will remember that we did our favorite games of all time, games one through ten, way back in the day.
00:26:12
Speaker
And we had a special guest, Lock Mort, on that episode. That's right. Lock was with us. So we it was only right to bring him back. So Hodge, I think Hodge reached out to Lock and was like, Lock, Come join us. And here he is. And we're happy to have him.
00:26:25
Speaker
um So we are now going to be doing part two. Favorite games of all time. Part two. We're going doing games 11 through 20. We're also going to be making one amendment to our top 10.
00:26:37
Speaker
um And the way I've figured out the order is we're going to do Sean, Hodge, Locke, Midnight. Just to do kind of like a clockwise, I guess, if you will, on the graphic. um Whatever. We figured out. It's not that important.
00:26:48
Speaker
So Sean, you are going to be our person of honor to take it away. ah One game, I guess, that you can't believe you left off your list. We'll start there. Well, I'm not going to. Well, I'm going to talk about that in my 11 through 20 because I'm just going the game that I'm taking off my top 10 would just replace that game. You know what i mean? So when I get to that point in the list, I'll talk about that.
00:27:08
Speaker
But I think we should recap our top 10s before we get into our 11 through 20. Okay. like that. So. i like that oh I'll recap my top 10 real quick. So my number one was Final Fantasy 7. My number two was Kingdom Hearts 2.
00:27:21
Speaker
My number three was Trails to Azure. That's part of the Legend of Heroes series. Number four was Octopath Traveler 2. My number five is Crash Bandicoot 4. My number six was Shovel Knight.
00:27:32
Speaker
My number seven was Tales of Exilia. My number eight was Xenoblade Chronicles 2. My number nine was The Outer Worlds. And my number 10 was Ni No Kuni 2, which is going to be bumped into my 11 through 20. So when I get to that slot where Ni No Kuni 2 would be in my 11 through 20, I'll talk about the game that's actually in my top 10.
00:27:53
Speaker
All right. So that's Sean's top 10. We'll keep the order. Hodge, would you recap your top 10 for us, sir? Yeah, at number 10, I had Dragon Ball Z, Budokai 3.
00:28:04
Speaker
Nine was Wolfenstein 3D. Eight was Death Stranding. Seven, Pokemon Yellow. Six was Hades. Five was the OG God of War. Four was COD 4, Modern Warfare.
00:28:16
Speaker
Three was Spyro 2, Ripto's Rage. Two was Kingdom Hearts. And one was Bioshock. All right. Locke, could you recap yours? Sure. I made two changes to mine, but I'll get to that later, I suppose, right?
00:28:31
Speaker
um Yeah, that's fine. So I'll just read the old list. So at 10, I had Final Fantasy VII Remake. At 9, I had The Curse of Monkey Island. At 8, I had Fable 2. At 7, I had Bioshock Infinite. At 6, I had Dark Souls. At 5, I had Left 4 Dead 2.
00:28:47
Speaker
At 4, I had Oblivion, not remastered. um And at three, I had The Witcher 3. At two, I had Red Dead 2. And at one, i had Baldur's Gate 2. Excellent.
00:28:58
Speaker
Very good list. All right For me, I had at 10, I had XCOM ah UFO Defense, the original. ah Nine, I had Ghost of Tsushima. Eight, Elden Ring. Seven, the original Knights of the Old Republic KOTOR from ah Bioware.
00:29:17
Speaker
Six, Persona 4 Golden. Five, Cyberpunk 2077. Four, Dragon Age Origins. Three, Skyrim. Two, Baldur's Gate 3.
00:29:29
Speaker
And number one, Mass Effect 3. So that was my list. great All right. Perfect. All right. So let's get into my number 20.
00:29:40
Speaker
um So for my list, just a reminder to people, I am limiting myself to one game per franchise. So this is going to continue from my original list. So you won't see another Final Fantasy game on here. So yeah. So my number 20 Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2.
00:30:00
Speaker
This is a um top... um This is like a 16-bit, like... um action RPG where you go around the world of Dragon Ball and you can play as numerous characters and it's ah a fighting game. You can upgrade your stats. You get, like I said, numerous characters, you get the Super Saiyan transformation. And this game was freaking awesome. So the Game Boy Advance, I would love a remastered collection to come to switch with the first one, second one, and the third one, which is called Boo's Fury. This covers the um Android saga all the way up to cell.
00:30:32
Speaker
and I remember I played this game so much as a kid. I still my original cartridge of this. You start off as... It's really a Gohan game, to be honest. It's not really a Goku game. You start off as Gohan, and he's like the but one you primarily play as, but you can eventually play as Piccolo and Krillin.
00:30:47
Speaker
and um even tn goku vegeta um you get to run around the world there's side quests to do um it was really cool because this is like one of the first times i remember like playing dragon ball that i realized they referred to hercule in america as mr satan because i call him mr satan in the game um which is funny i'm like why did they call him like i had no idea you know i was like set six years old seven years old um But it was a lot of fun just running around doing all the different side quests, fighting random enemies, beating up wolves in the forest as young Gohan and like the wolves would like kick your butt and you're like, I'm supposed to be like a Saiyan I just came off of Namek, you know, fighting like raccoon now i can't beat up a wolf.
00:31:26
Speaker
um But it was an overall blast. I really enjoyed my time with this game. And it it gave me that that overworld. It's just so... like Just flying through the overworld was awesome.
00:31:37
Speaker
Yeah, I really want a remake of this game. Oh, not even a remake. just Just give me the remastered collection on Switch. like I know they just did those Yu-Gi-Oh! GB Game Boy and GBA games on Switch. I would love if they just did this with these Dragon Ball games.
00:31:48
Speaker
These are like true action RPGs. not fighting games. they they're They do a really good job at retelling the story. And... The side quests are awesome. It's so much fun. Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2.
00:32:01
Speaker
and Okay. And that that's your number 20, right? Yes, that's my number 20 to 11. Okay. I just want to make sure that that's the order we're going to follow. Okay. Yeah. Because I wrote down 11 to 20, but it it does make sense to flip it.
00:32:13
Speaker
um All right. Does anyone have any thoughts on Dragon Ball Z Legacy of Goku 2? I did not play it. You know who also loves that game? Loves, loves, loves that game? Matty? Yep. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.
00:32:24
Speaker
yeah I knew that. Yeah. I remember editing. yeah as Yeah. It's so good. Looked fun. Yeah. That's fine. Apparently Maddie needs to fix his posters, by the way. That's what I heard. and You need to tell him that lock. I saw GJ and in the discord was like, I'm not going to watch a Maddie video until he fixes his posters. It's like, what? He posted a screenshot. Those posters are all over the place. I know, but it's it's cool. It's kind of cool. No, I kind of like it, but i tell I'll tell him. I'll tell him. Yeah. Let him know, dude. let him he He's losing one viewer. Maybe.
00:32:52
Speaker
um All right. um Hodge, did you play that game? You're up next, by the way. Yeah, i I adored those games. I agree. I would love, love, love, love love a re-release of the trilogy. Those, i especially since the GBA is a part of Nintendo Online. Like, that'd be awesome to if they added it to the Switch. but And the the second one was so much better than the first. Like, the first one was oh okay.
00:33:16
Speaker
But the second one was just like, took it to a whole nother level. Yeah, yeah, they were so good. But it kind like a JRPG. No, it's like an action base. it's It's I mean, kind of like a J. It's Bandai Namco, but it's like a action based one.
00:33:29
Speaker
But it's not like a traditional turn based game. It's like an old Zelda game for. Yeah. Well, maybe I'll try that if they port it to the Switch 2 somehow. Yeah, that'd be awesome. All right. Sorry, Hodge. Go ahead. No, you're good. My number 20 is a game that came out last year called Helldivers 2.
00:33:46
Speaker
ah ah just even in this time, it's one of those games where just yeah Thursday they came out with a new pack and everything. So me and my buddies job jumped in and started attacking bugs and Illuminate stuff. And it's just an amazing online game that we haven't had that much fun doing it. I mean, Fortnite was kind of there too, but like before that it was like, had been since like an old call duty or halo where like a game got us to all be like, we have to get on play together. And so,
00:34:19
Speaker
It's just a delight. And ah also came out of nowhere. I remember watching gameplay for it and I was like, it looks kind of like, I don't know, Gears of War meets Starship Troopers because the gameplay or the trailer does not do that gameplay justice. Like,
00:34:35
Speaker
you have to actually be in there and accidentally killing your friends with airstrikes and stuff before you're like, oh shit, like to enjoy the the love of this game. So yeah, I just, I loved Helldivers too, and I still do because, yeah, I still play it. So I had to throw it there into the top 20. All right. Anyone have any bars for Helldivers? I didn't play it.
00:34:55
Speaker
Oh, great game. Yeah, Haji's absolutely right. Fantastic multiplayer game. Super fun. Okay. um Lock, you are up next, sir. Well, what I did is a little bit, um, I can't say the word on here. I think it's it's not very smart, I think, but what, what I did was last time i was on, I picked this game as my number 10, but I had to bump it down because a year passed or has it been a year yet? Has been a year. Right.
00:35:23
Speaker
And I haven't really thought about this game and this game also got a sequel in the meantime and the sequel, I really enjoyed a little bit better. um So I had to bump this game out of my top 20 and put another game in its place.
00:35:36
Speaker
um And that game was Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is now gone. It's no longer in my top 20. Not because it's a bad game. That's huge fall off. Yeah. and And it's not because it's a bad game, but because the last time I was on, I just played it. I just played it like two or three months before.
00:35:53
Speaker
So it was still very fresh in my mind. I i was very impressed with it. But since then, I played Rebirth, which I enjoyed better. but I can't put that on my list because I haven't finished it yet. um So Final Fantasy VII Remake is my new number 20, formerly number 10.
00:36:09
Speaker
And in number 10, I put a game that should have been on my list last time, but didn't put on there because it was too long ago since I played it um So my new number 10 is a game you also have on your list, Midnight, and that's KOTOR 1. Yeah, I mean, that game is amazing.
00:36:27
Speaker
Yeah. Oh, God, I hope that remake comes out, dude. I don't know what's going on. you Let's hope, yeah. It's going so good. I imagine Hodge and Sean may not have played Coach War 1.
00:36:37
Speaker
I don't know. I've played it. You loved it? ah I didn't love it. i thought it was really good, though. I mean i think it's really good, but I wouldn't i didn't like love love it. Sure, sure That's fair. It needs a remake, though. There's a lot of people that missed out, and I'm sure the remake would make it better. Nice glow up, you know? yeah Shout out to Corey.
00:36:56
Speaker
yeah oh yeah cory cory and me are are diehards for that especially yeah cory's made it his whole online identity though so shout out to that i still need to play the sequel all right so final fantasy 7 remake awesome game number 20 yep yeah you do need to play kotor 2 it's awesome i played them both back to back in february when because i wanted to make a video on it and it was such a great experience playing them back to back um because I only played both of them back when they released, like 20 years ago.
00:37:25
Speaker
So it was really fun to go back and and play them both again. and remember you weren' you weren't super high on 2, but then when you replayed it, you appreciated it more, right? Yes, exactly. So that's what I'm doing lately. I'm replaying older games that I didn't really like when they launched, but now I can appreciate them more.
00:37:40
Speaker
And KOTOR 2 is a perfect example. I didn't like that at all when it launched, and now I loved it. I thought it was fantastic. It's an excellent role-playing game. Yeah. You really get to make play a role and make a lot of good choices and stuff. Yeah. Yeah.
00:37:52
Speaker
All right. So I'll go ahead and move on then with my pick here. Let me pull up my list. So, Sean, you're going like this. My number 20 pick. This is a JRPG.
00:38:05
Speaker
And i think it might be my only JRPG in the top 20. But this is probably my favorite JRPG that I've played. Persona 4 is in your top 10. Oh, you're right. I lied. lied. Persona 4. I get it.
00:38:17
Speaker
i'll good That is technically a JRPG. All right. So, but this one is arguably just as good. I love this game. Octopath Traveler 2, Sean. to That game, well you recommended it for me and I played it and man, was this game fucking amazing. Dude, this game was a masterpiece, honestly.
00:38:36
Speaker
it it's so It's number 20, but honestly, like pick a day. It could probably slide up to like number nine or something just randomly. Um, Beautiful world, beautiful HD 2D style, awesome music, amazing characters, super fun combat, dude, with like how you can like use your TP to like do multiple attacks at once.
00:38:56
Speaker
Really great characters. um I just love this game. The stories were awesome. um The only thing I didn't like about this game, and it was probably because I'm an h umm a JRPG ah noob, if you will, is that I wasn't ready for the severe ramp up at the end. So when I went to challenge the boss, I'm like, oh, this going be easy. I got my ass beat.
00:39:17
Speaker
um Like I had not struggled once. So I'm like, yeah, we got this. And then I pulled up on the boss and got destroyed. And I was like, oh, shit, I guess I'm not ready. So I had to spend like 10 hours like grinding and powering and getting ready.
00:39:28
Speaker
And then I went back and beat it and beat her ass. So um I never did. i didn't beat the optional boss, though, because that that thing was crazy. That thing was super hard. I tried it one time. I pulled up, like, my party's, like, level 90 and stuff. Like, I was super high level.
00:39:42
Speaker
I pulled up, and I got absolutely destroyed by the optional boss, like, instantly. Like, it wasn't even close. Like, I just got wiped out in a flash, and I was like, yeah, we're not going to do this. I'm going to go ahead move on to the next game.
00:39:55
Speaker
ah But I love Octopath 2, and I recommend it to everyone. ah So that's my number 20. Yeah, shout out to Throne. Octopath 2, great game. As we know, it was number 4 on my list. Freaking love it.
00:40:07
Speaker
Throne was your favorite character. Mine was Temenos, the cleric. I love him. little sarcastic. They're all really good. Honestly, all eight characters are really good. Yeah. And shout out to Crick Coon.
00:40:19
Speaker
Oh, rest in peace. Not forgotten. Kind of a spoiler there, but yeah. um All right. Sean, you're up next, my friend. Number 19. My number 19 game, we have Fallout New Vegas. So you you throw me a bone, i throw you a bone. There you go. Fallout New Vegas from Obsidian.
00:40:39
Speaker
um This game absolutely blew me away when I first played it in 2010. I remember, like, it was the first Fallout game I played. I never played Fallout 3, I was like, i don't even know how why I even got it.
00:40:52
Speaker
I randomly was like, oh, that game looks really interesting. and I remember I was it was my freshman year of high school and my dad had like a vacation week. It was October and I came home from school and he's like, guess what? I go, what? He goes, look what I got.
00:41:06
Speaker
It's fall at New Vegas. I go, oh, that looks that's awesome. So he threw it in the PS3. I played it on PS3. I'll never forget that. Oh, my God. Threw it in the PS3. It was in instantly like, oh, my. Like, I cannot believe what I can do. I can pick up everything. I can kill whoever I want.
00:41:22
Speaker
I can do anything I want. This is awesome. And I i um remember creating my character and and thinking, like, this game's revolutionary, not even realizing that Fallout 3, like, two years before that, like,
00:41:33
Speaker
pretty much did the same thing. Um, but the storytelling in this game, the choice and consequence was awesome. I remember I played this game so many times. I wanted to get all of the different endings. I experimented with what I could do. Like one time at good Springs, the first place you start at I, um, killed everybody just to see what would happen. And then obviously say i reloaded my saves, obviously.
00:41:54
Speaker
Um, But yeah, I loved it. I loved um just like everything about it. Just going to that first time you go to the strip and you go to Vegas and you're like, and you're like the guy's like, oh, you have to pay the you have to pay the fee to get in.
00:42:09
Speaker
And I was like, what do you mean have to pay a fee to get in? And like you like, how am I going to do this? Like, I don't have enough caps to do this. And like, you can discover different ways to get in. And then like going into the casinos, you, they have to take all your weapons. But if you're certain, like, if you level up certain things, you can get in with certain weapons. And um just like, so I have so many fond memories. Like Mr. House was so like when I first realized and learned what Mr. House actually was,
00:42:36
Speaker
I was like, what? Like that blew me away. Just listen to the radio running through the the wasteland. Gosh, I freaking adore this game. It is so good. We did this game needs like a like I would love this game to be remade or get a proper sequel.
00:42:53
Speaker
Yeah, man. Locke, I know you love this game. You got some bars for Fallout. Well, I didn't love this game at all up until two months ago when I replayed it. And now I do love it. But before that, I was a New Vegas denier because it was made by Obsidian. And the first time when I played it, New Vegas was absolutely broken. like ah Nobody could play it. like It would just didn't work. like Broke all the time. Quest didn't finish. Bugs everywhere.
00:43:17
Speaker
So back when I played it in 2010, that right? I don't know. Yeah, 2010. October 2010. Yeah. so yeah twenty ten october twenty ten ah Yeah, so I remember when I played it at first, I hated it. But the funny thing is, I don't know if you guys remember this, everyone hated it back then because it simply didn't work. It it was ah it was a terrible game back then. That's so funny.
00:43:34
Speaker
i think And only when when Fallout 4 came out, people were like, oh, New Vegas is iss way better. New Vegas is the real Fallout. So ever since then, it's been put on a pedestal, but rightfully so, because I replayed it two months ago, and you're right, Sean. It's amazing. the The choices you get in that game are second to none.
00:43:50
Speaker
lot of that works um all the quests are amazing the companions are fantastic um great locations too great story very original yeah great game fantastic game what is so funny about it being broken is i played it on ps3 and i the game never broke for me like that is so weird to me but i remember coming across the kings the king's gang like yeah um And I was like, I had no idea what was going on. I'm like are like, what is this? And I don't know. And I have such nostalgia for the fifty s even though clearly was not even around then. And i like love just that...
00:44:26
Speaker
oh my god i just love and i love fall it made me fall in love with the series and then i went back and played three after and then the rest is history now i'm just waiting for uh fallout five whoo what did you see that the trader for season two yeah i did i saw the announcement and everything i'm like awesome i cannot wait my mom that's like a show my mom loves follow like and she's like me and my dad are like you should play the game and she's like what
00:44:53
Speaker
That'd be hilarious. Yeah, I do want to say that ah in Obsidian's defense, I have to defend Obsidian because I love them. um They were put on a severe time crunch on that game. I think Zanimax or Bethesda proper was like, you have to release this at this date. And it wasn't ready to go.
00:45:08
Speaker
18 months. they They made the whole game in 18 months, which is not freaking amazing. Yeah, I think if it was up to them, they probably would have delayed it. But I don't think they were given that choice. but um But yeah, I love New Vegas because once again,
00:45:22
Speaker
obsidian is masters of storytelling and choices and and actual role-playing like they make actual role-playing games like there's always multiple factions they're always very different and diverse like one's evil one's good maybe there's a neutral and you get to align yourself and and kind of have a slightly varied ending based on who you sided with and stuff and that's super cool and i love it i love new vegas um hodge if you have any bars for new vegas and then you're up next sir No, i ah I've always heard this is the best one, so I really do want to try it one day. i just haven't gotten around to it, but I'm very excited to see.
00:45:56
Speaker
i i think I want to try and get to, I want to play it before season two comes out because want to see what, how it's going to, you know, fit in there. But I cannot wait for season two of the show. The first season was amazing and actually just went up for pre-order on 4K. So I pre-ordered it because i can't wait to re-watch it.
00:46:16
Speaker
And yeah. looking forward to it. You have a special 4K Blu-ray player, I assume? Yeah, i have a yeah i have a proper 4K. The consoles don't work, do they? No, the Xbox One sucks. and Well, I just got the disc driver, so I haven't tried the PS5. But no, I have a legitimate Blu-ray player.
00:46:34
Speaker
It's awesome. Maybe one day I'll invest in that. I don't know if it's worth it. It seems like a lot of money. don't know. Mine was like $300, $200. I don't know. It wasn't that bad. Okay. But yeah.
00:46:45
Speaker
ah My number 19 is actually it's another game that came out last year. as everyone knows, I love me some platformers. So going to go with Astro Bot.
00:47:00
Speaker
It was just such a charming game. it was like like every level. I had just a big dumb smile on my face the entire time because it's just such a joyful game. and And then obviously finding the bots that are old PlayStation mascots. You're like, Oh, look at, I, I saved, you know, gex, the gecko or like, kind of like, it's so, it's just such a but blast from the past. And like we we talked about, we did a spoiler cast for it actually last year, um me and Sean and,
00:47:30
Speaker
we talked about how sometimes companies can do stuff where they promote their own shit in it and it comes off as cringy and just corporate, but you could tell it was just a beautiful homage to the history of PlayStation, just like Astro's playroom was on the free one that came with the system. Like they're just Astro bot is a perfect mascot for PlayStation now. And so I'm happy that these games are living up to the joy and,
00:47:58
Speaker
I cannot wait to see what Team Asobi does next. I want another Astro Bot game. But yeah, I loved this one so much. So i was like, ah it's got to go in my top 20. So much love was put into that game. And oh yeah, like you said, Hodge, if you really want like a full breakdown, me and Hodge went, we dove deep into it.
00:48:16
Speaker
It's so good. Yeah. And they're still putting on content, which makes it yeah just as fun. So yeah. Forever on my PS5 console. I will never delete it. Yeah, same. Yeah, right on. Locke, if you have thoughts and you're up next, my friend.
00:48:33
Speaker
Um, yeah, no, I love i loved it too. i thought Astro Bot was fantastic. Fantastic. I have i have a ah stupid rule with myself is that I don't put games in my list that came out either this year or last year because I know myself and there's a lot of recency bias. So for instance, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 would probably be on my list next year, but it's too early now. It only came out a couple of months ago, so I don't know where it'll rank in like ah a year or so. So I'm not going to put... um I'm not going to put recent games on my list, but otherwise Astro Bot would probably be on my list as well right now.
00:49:06
Speaker
But right now it's not because at number 19, I was looking at my Steam list and at like the most hours I have in games. And this game, i have over 1.5k hours in, so I had to put it on my list.
00:49:19
Speaker
But it's a bit of a weird one because it's Counter-Strike Global Offensive. Ooh. Okay. which launched in 2012. um it's It's funny. It's one of those games I never realized how much I played it over the years, but I guess I must have played it a ah shit ton of time because I have over 1.5k hours into it.
00:49:39
Speaker
um I used to play this game religiously, I think, every day mean Yeah, wet way after college. So every day after work with a couple of my friends and the hours just ranked out ah stacked up over the years, I guess. I really like this game. i think it's I think it's great, but it never it never grit me as much as Call of Duty. But it's just one of those games that I played every single day for years and years and years.
00:50:03
Speaker
I think I stopped when CSGO 2 came out. But before that, I played it literally every day. And if CSGO was still around and it didn't turn into CSGO 2, I probably would still be playing it every day. Because it's such simple, fun, very easy, but very hard to master game.
00:50:20
Speaker
um I think we were all ranked pretty high. um So our matches were all very competitive, which is fun. But i don't know. Have any of you guys ever played CSGO or Counter-Strike Normal?
00:50:32
Speaker
I did, yeah. I told the story a while back that i did have a period where I was playing a lot of CSGO, a lot of ranked with my friends. um And yeah, that game was a lot of fun. It's pretty much all just search and destroy, if you will, from Call of Duty.
00:50:45
Speaker
um You know, one team's the terrorist and they're planting the bomb and then got the counter-terrorist defending and trying to kill them and defuse the bomb and stuff. um And it's super cool. It has an economy system where like you earn money for kills and and then you could buy better weapons and armor and stuff to give you a slight advantage, which is good.
00:51:02
Speaker
um The AK is the best weapon because it's a one shot to the head. um It's good stuff. um But yeah, I really enjoyed that game. I played it a lot. um I got to the highest rank that I got to was ah DMG, Distinguished Master Guardian or whatever.
00:51:17
Speaker
yeah But I did tell the story that I was kind of boosted by better players than me. um So my honest, my honest, truthful rank probably was just like a double AK or whatever.
00:51:27
Speaker
um forget what it was called, like MG2, Master Guardian 2. was probably if I was playing by myself where I would fit in. um But yeah, I love that game. It's very fun. Yeah, but well we should well, we can't play it anymore because it doesn't exist anymore. But if it still existed, we should have played it at some point, I guess.
00:51:45
Speaker
that's the That's the one... i hate it when games do this. And they did it to this, they did it to Overwatch, and then when the sequel comes out, they erase the first one. Which is so stupid because I still... If if the first one was still around, I would still be playing it. But yeah, they erased the first one. So now it's called CSGO 2. Yeah, that's stupid.
00:52:03
Speaker
Alright. I don't think these two have played this game that game, so Go ahead and keep it moving here. Let me remind myself. So my number 19 is a little game from ah franchise that I love, and it's called Assassin's Creed 2.
00:52:21
Speaker
two Assassin's Creed 2 is my number 19 game. This is my favorite. This is my favorite Assassin's Creed game in the franchise. My number one. Love this game. Ezio Auditore, the best assassin.
00:52:36
Speaker
Desmond, the best real world person who's operating stuff. Very awesome. I love the story. The setting was freaking awesome, dude. You're in you're in like Rome and you're in... but It takes place in like four or five different cities like all throughout. Rome, I don't know. i don't know. There's probably Naples, Versailles, who knows?
00:52:52
Speaker
You're in all kinds of little cities and it's freaking awesome. um And they also had one city of your own, like your base, and you could actually like level it up and like build it up and get better shops and stuff. And then you could get better gear out of it, which was cool.
00:53:03
Speaker
um i I believe you run into Leonardo da Vinci and he helps you with like some, ah you know, like some tech, some tech, you know, he's the genius back then. And it's super awesome, dude. I love this game. It was so fun. It was so much better than the first game.
00:53:18
Speaker
The first game was was kind of trash. It was cool because it started the franchise, but it's like, the worst one on my list of all the games. Uh, AC two is the best. that is my pick. Number 19, Assassin's Creed two.
00:53:32
Speaker
Any thoughts, guys? Anyone? To me, like, ah I never played them, but Assassin's Creed 2 is what kind of invented, like, the, oh, is your sequel going to be, like, the next level thing? Is it going to get the Assassin's Creed 2 treatment?
00:53:45
Speaker
Like, that's what I think of when I think of Assassin's Creed 2. Like, that's what everyone holds sequel standard. Everyone still says it. Like, oh, is it going to get that Assassin's Creed 2 jump? So the fact that it's your favorite still to this day is, like, that speaks volumes to how good it is.
00:54:00
Speaker
Yeah, it's awesome. All right. um If no one else has any more thoughts, Sean, you are up with number 18. All right. My number 18 Pokemon Platinum.
00:54:12
Speaker
This is my favorite overall Pokemon game of all time. I freaking love this game. I love the Sinnoh region. That's like the region it takes place in. This is, uh, the third versions, like the definitive edition, kind of like the Pokemon yellow or the Pokemon crystal version of, um, the Sinnoh games, the diamond and Pearl games.
00:54:31
Speaker
Uh, this game had a lot of quality of life improvements because this, uh, diamond and Pearl, which were the original two games were the first DS versions. So the game was extremely like slowed down because they were really early DS games.
00:54:44
Speaker
Um, the battle system was very slow. This sped things up and it made people kind of really enjoy the Sinnoh region for the first time. It expanded the Pokedex too.
00:54:56
Speaker
Uh, there was a huge like controversy when Diamond and Pearl came out. There was only four fire type Pokemon in the entire game that you could get. um this greatly expanded that. um, It added a lot. to It was much more than just a third version. It added to the story.
00:55:11
Speaker
It changed things from the original. I just I really, really love this game. and this came out in March of 2009. And at that time, actually I actually was in the hospital. I was sick. And I remember my dad came in said, hey, I got you to the game. And I was in the hospital for two weeks. And I remember just sitting. I played it like all day, every day because I couldn't do anything else. I was on bed rest.
00:55:33
Speaker
for literally two weeks ago i think i played through the game probably four or five times just that's all i did i was catching different pokemon remember that was the first time i ever caught a shiny pokemon i was like so like i can't believe i caught a shot i thought it was so cool like i got a shiny little do i know those people you know catching 150 shinies per day you know um but i really have no life though i i really enjoyed this game some of my favorite pokemon are from this game um Like I love the Pokemon design in Gen 4 is just awesome. I love the region Sinnoh.
00:56:02
Speaker
It's so diverse. you have like ah really tropical beach and then you'll go up north to like a mountain and it's like snowing. ah This introduced a lot of new mechanics. it the The physical special split was here.
00:56:15
Speaker
Yeah, I just, I really adore this game. I have very fond memories with it. And um yeah, Pokemon Platinum, it's one of those games that I still go back to and play all the time and just pick it up. I have my one of my One of those original saves from my house. I ended up getting two copies and replay it. And I have like another save, like a copy with like one of my original saves, probably like my fourth or fifth save.
00:56:36
Speaker
But just love the game so much. Yeah, shout out to Piplup. my My second favorite. Well, my third favorite starter overall. My favorite Sinnoh starter though, Piplup.
00:56:48
Speaker
I know I'm weird. Pokemon, let's go. fine Nothing wrong with Pokemon. so Lock, did you have thoughts on that? I have never played a Pokemon game. i'm too I was too old.
00:57:00
Speaker
um So I missed that whole thing. But I know um my good friend Maddie loves them and always talks about them. I know you you love them too, Sean. And Hodge loves them too. So they must be good. So I think it's too late to go back to them now for me. But yeah ah people always talk about them with so much passion. they they I think it's really awesome. i was like i was the perfect age. like I don't know. It kind of it came out...
00:57:22
Speaker
When I was like really little. like I got into it around Gen 2, Gen 3. After Hodge. But it was like the perfect time. like it was Peak Pokemon was around there. like poke of Pokemania and all that. um i remember going.
00:57:34
Speaker
Before the Nintendo store was a Nintendo store in New York City. It was the Pokemon store. And the first time i went to New York City. I went to the Pokemon store. And I was like blown away. like i could not i was in I was five years old. I was in absolute heavens.
00:57:49
Speaker
Very nice. Very nice. ah Hodge, I bet you got some thoughts on this and you're also up next. Yeah, i ah my time with Pokemon ended after the second gen. I just, I had gotten old enough that I was like, I don't want to deal with this anymore. So after silver, I fell off Pokemon until um I decided i when I got a 3DS years ago and Ultra Moon came out and that was the first one I went back to. yeah,
00:58:17
Speaker
ah The only reason I ever knew about the third generation of Pokemon is because I played Pokemon Go for a long time. And so I collected them all in that. But yeah, I never played the third gen of the actual Pokemon. So maybe one day I can get back and play all the old ones that I missed. But Yeah, I don't know. i love I love Pokemon, but yeah, my love of it kind of begins with Gen 1 and ends with Gen 2. So even in the newer games I've played, I don't really care about any of the Pokemon in them.
00:58:49
Speaker
they don't They don't land as much. Obviously, nostalgia a hell of a drug. so They don't land as much for me, but yeah. i Yeah, I do like Pokemon, so I hope one day they put another good Pokemon game instead of the garbage they've been putting out.
00:59:05
Speaker
But anyway, my number 18... is a little game that they've made into a TV show. It's pretty popular. That's the last of us part one, obviously.
00:59:17
Speaker
But yeah, this game, and there actually it would have been higher on my list, but like I said, the, ah the conversation around this series is so tired at this time, at this point that,
00:59:29
Speaker
like I just don't have the same overall diehard love for it. But this game at the time, and i can still play this one all the time like you know as much as I could back then. But yeah, I just don't have this series in such high regard anymore because of the conversation. But this first game, it was so it was such a masterpiece. Just...
00:59:50
Speaker
The first game I think I ever played where I was like, the acting in this game is so good. Like, I had never really thought about acting and a video game before. So, ah yeah, this game, the soundtrack, the setting, the story, the acting, like I said, it's it's ah this game it's just perfect. I love this game. It's a 10 out of 10.
01:00:11
Speaker
But like I said, it's going to be my number 18 because of kind of the discourse around the series has made it not as enjoyable as it once was. Okay.
01:00:23
Speaker
Yeah, good. So I love that game too. um Sean, do you have any thoughts on The Last of Us before we move on to Locke? Amazing game. I've spoken very highly of it. I prefer part two, but I love part one almost almost as much. They're they're both great games.
01:00:38
Speaker
I will spoil spoil it. Both of them, I did consider them for my list. They did they just missed my top 20 though. one of the Well, part two did and essentially would eliminate part one, but both of them were highly considered.
01:00:51
Speaker
All right. Lock. Well, this is where things get a little bit tricky, but it's ah i love how your cat is like the equivalent of a smoke detector for you. That's really... Yeah, for real.
01:01:01
Speaker
That's really good. um um But this is where things get a little bit tricky, and also a huge coincidence. Because on my list before, the game I have at number 18 here was my number four in my previous list. So we've got a huge bump back, and that is Oblivion.
01:01:18
Speaker
And Oblivion got a huge bump back because I used to... love Oblivion, or at least I thought I loved Oblivion. And I still do. I still like Oblivion a lot. But in my head, it was always better than Skyrim.
01:01:29
Speaker
But then the remaster came out um a couple of weeks ago, a month ago. And I played it religiously. I played it for 60, 70, 80 hours. um And I loved it. And at first, I thought, oh, this is so much better than Skyrim. And like the quests are, and all the yeah the characters are even. But the combat, is just not it just doesn't flow as well as Skyrim.

Game Ranking Adjustments and Discussions

01:01:49
Speaker
So because of the remaster, that made me realize like, oh, I was looking at the Oblivion through like nostalgia and rose tinted glasses. So I had to bump it way back ah from number four to number 18.
01:02:02
Speaker
But then what's my new number four? I played a yeah a game not that long ago because I wanted to make a video about it. um And that game affected me so much. um It also affected me a lot the first time I played it, and but it affected me even more the second time I played it.
01:02:18
Speaker
um And I just i can't get it out of my mind. And that is The Last of Us 2. So number four, my new number four, is The Last of Us 2. I completely understand what Hodge is saying because the discourse around this game is...
01:02:33
Speaker
incredibly toxic but i'm lucky that i played it i played it um at at the start of the new year i think so ah in january back when nobody was talking about season two nobody was talking about season one the game was just nobody was talking about it so that gave me time to really appreciate it and just enjoy it without all the discourse surrounding it and it made me realize that i've i this game is just so special um i get why people don't like it there's there's problems with the pacing or they they don't like abby of course but To me, personally, the game touches on a couple of subjects I also have been struggling with the the past couple of years. And i I think it did such a great job. I love this game. i
01:03:13
Speaker
it it It bumps the first one by a mile to me. um Which, again, I understand if that's not the case for for others, of course. But to me, personally, The Last of Us 2 is my new number four.
01:03:25
Speaker
Making Oblivion, or Oblivion Remastered, my new number 18.
01:03:30
Speaker
Great pick. I love it. Last of Us 2, really good game. Like I said, i like you said, I understand why some people don't like it. um But I thought they did a phenomenal job with the way they told the story.
01:03:45
Speaker
and that Obviously, that's subjective. um But yeah, really good pacing. The gameplay... um Upgrades compared to part one as well were like night and day.
01:03:56
Speaker
yeah So such a good series, such a good game. It also looks amazing on the pro. It's the best looking pro game I've played so far. um It's the only game I played so far, which I'm actually happy that I bought a pro for.
01:04:11
Speaker
Amazing.
01:04:15
Speaker
All right. Right on. um Good stuff. Good stuff. So I'm going to go ahead and move into my number 18 here. My number 18 is another franchise game, and this is by far the best game in this franchise by a mile, and that is Far Cry 3.
01:04:35
Speaker
Far Cry 3, I love this game. It is so good. i've so I've talked about it so many times before. My cat loves it too. um he has no My cat has no respect for the fact that I'm recording right now.
01:04:47
Speaker
He does not give a single fuck. He's like, pay attention to me, pet me, give me food, whatever. I'm just meowing. Chill out, dude. he He loves Voss. He's a huge Voss fan. and Voss, the best villain by far in the franchise. One of the best villains in all of the gaming.
01:05:03
Speaker
um yeah i've i I've talked about this game so much, so I don't want to go too much into it. But it has an awesome setting. Really, really fun, tight shooting. ah Awesome like side stuff, like ah like the hunting. They made the hunting really enjoyable, and it was functional too because it improved your equipment and made combat better.
01:05:21
Speaker
um The Vos, again, I'm going to say it again. He's amazing. ah his his The other person, Citra, who you deal with is also awesome and is super hot. um And then you get a choice at the end of the game whether you want to be with Citra or not, which is awesome.
01:05:35
Speaker
The game's awesome. Everyone should play it. It's so fun. It still holds up, I would say, if you play like the Definitive Edition or whatever. Dude, this game's awesome. Go play it. Far Cry 3, my number 18. I'll leave it at that.
01:05:49
Speaker
Anyone have thoughts on that? and Otherwise, let's keep it moving. great Great game. My favorite is five, but I love three as well. um the The only issue I have with what you said is, Vass, this is a spoiler. i don't know if that's allowed.
01:06:01
Speaker
Well, okay. Never mind. I thought Vass was awesome, too. Let's just keep it at that. I know i know what you were going to say. Yeah. All right. um all right Sean. All right.
01:06:13
Speaker
My number 17 is Horizon Forbidden West. I freaking love the Horizon series. um not the not the for Not the Forza Horizon, but Horizon Forbidden West.
01:06:24
Speaker
um And I really enjoyed... I like Aloy as a character. I know she gets a lot of flack, especially in this game, for you know talking to the player a lot. And... um But this game is one, it's gorgeous to look at two. It's super fun to play. And three, I love the lore and the world behind horizon.
01:06:40
Speaker
um I was one of those people who read like every single you know document you could find in this game, sitting there, reading it, listening to the audio logs. um But yeah, I, this game blew me away when it came out. I was blown away by the story. I had no idea where this story was going to take certain turns that it did.
01:06:57
Speaker
um And it, Makes me it made me instantly want a part three. And I'm so curious to where they go with part three, because there has to be a third one, obviously, the way the game ends. For those who know, um i thought the side characters were awesome, too. You get a little you they they kind of flesh out the side characters a little bit more in this game.
01:07:17
Speaker
um the different factions you come across are a lot more interesting in this game than the first one. um the area of The areas you travel to are much more diverse.
01:07:28
Speaker
um It is so cool when you discover like what actually happened and what actually is going on with why the world is like this. and you know um i just loved it and I highly, highly suggest it to everyone. I know a lot of people give it flack, but I think a lot of people give it flack and they never actually played it. They just hear like,
01:07:47
Speaker
oh, I heard Aloy talks to you a lot. It's like, okay, we have you played the game? I loved it.
01:07:56
Speaker
All right. I love that you love it, Sean. um Does anyone have thoughts on Horizon here before we keep it moving, guys?
01:08:04
Speaker
No? Okay. Hodge? You are up again? Yeah, just i didn't say anything because i wanted to see if you guys said anything. But yeah, I love the first Horizon. i fell off the second one, but it's because I was burnt out from playing the first one because replayed it. But I actually just bought the upgrade for remaster of the first one. Now that I'm a pro, I want to try it with the pro enhancements. But I'll go back to this game eventually because it does look... It was fun, but yeah, I'm in the camp of I don't like Aloy that well, but...
01:08:36
Speaker
But the games are beautiful and they're fun to play. So I it's a it's a good pick. I'll say. But ah my number 17 is actually I mean, i think maybe recency bias to get my top half of my bottom half be better. But ah because I have 17 is Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
01:08:57
Speaker
um i loved every moment of this game. Like I know it was one of those where some people thought it was bloated or just, you know, a little too big, little too many worlds or whatever.
01:09:09
Speaker
But i loved every moment of this game. It never felt too long to me. i did. i completed every open area. Yeah. did everything. i love the kind of the sequel-esque-ness of the story rather than it being a true remake of an old game.
01:09:26
Speaker
ah Just, it's a cool mystery that we're still obviously learning because there's a third part coming out, but ah yeah, I loved this. I mean, I played it when I quit one of my old jobs without having a new one because I just didn't like the job that that much that I was, uh,
01:09:43
Speaker
So I was unemployed for like a month. And so I played through this nonstop over the course of a week and put like 70 hours into it or something like that and beat it really fast. But yeah, I loved it that much. It was a fantastic game. So yeah, Final Fantasy Rebirth.
01:10:00
Speaker
Game is perfect. That's all. Hell yeah. Yeah, I mean, I chose it as my game of the year last year over Astro Bot, which is another one of my favorite games ever. So yeah, that's how good this game was.
01:10:12
Speaker
I actually don't even remember what my game of the year was last year. It was Rebirth. We all picked Rebirth. It was unanimous. We all picked Rebirth as our game the year. Which I was shocked at thought Hodge was going pick Astro Bot.
01:10:23
Speaker
I did too.
01:10:25
Speaker
ah Okay, so I'll give some bars here for Rebirth. I will say that I definitely agree with everything that you said, Hodge. This game is a masterpiece. I fucking love this game. It is not in my top 20, unfortunately. Spoiler alert.
01:10:39
Speaker
ah But on the third episode, it might come up. um This game is fricking amazing. ah Remake is also great, but I like Rebirth more. um Just everything about it is awesome, dude. The graphics, the combat, the characters, the world, the setting, everything was fricking amazing.
01:10:54
Speaker
um I have pretty much no negatives to say about this game. um It's awesome. Great pick. Locke, if you have any thoughts and then you are up next. My thoughts are exactly the same as yours. It would be, ah because right now Final Fantasy VII Remake is my number 20, but that could easily be, or should be, Rebirth, really. I don't know. It could be either one of them.
01:11:14
Speaker
Amazing game. Fantastic game. I think if i've played them if I played them as a kid, they would be in my top 10. But I didn't, so they're fresh to me. So i I don't have the nostalgia factor there. But I love them. One of the most perfect games I've ever played. Wonderful.
01:11:29
Speaker
Wonderful. Can't wait for the last one. um My number 17 is a game that came out a very long time ago in 2004. That's the year I went to college. I moved to a new city the first time I moved away from home.
01:11:42
Speaker
I was alone. well I had my friends, of course, in film school. had my girlfriend at the time. But when I came home at night and I didn't have a lot of money or a lot of food, this game kept me company for months and months and months during the winter.
01:11:53
Speaker
And that was GTA San Andreas. um The year previously in 2003 was the very first time I ever went to LA. um So playing San Andreas,
01:12:05
Speaker
taking place in like a fictional kind of l LA setting in the 90s was so cool. um I loved CJ as a character. I loved, loved, loved the music. um To me, it's the best GTA still because there's so many things you could do. You could get fat if you ate a lot hamburgers, or you could work out and get really buff, or you could you could um you could basically customize CJ. You could customize your cars.
01:12:27
Speaker
The story was really good. The world was amazing. You had two cities in one game, which had never been done before. it was I loved this game. You had bikes, which you could use, like little BMX bikes.
01:12:39
Speaker
I love San Andreas. I still love it to this day. I tried playing the remaster when they came out, and ah immediately something hit me like, don't do this. You're going to ruin you're kind of ruin your your memory of this game. So I stopped playing the remaster. But yeah, I love GTA San Andreas, or at least I loved it back when it came out. So that's my number 17.
01:12:59
Speaker
It's a huge GTA fan. I have only played four and five, which is great and all the DLC for four and stuff. But I'm going to go back and play three Vice City and San Andreas before GTA six comes out.
01:13:13
Speaker
I have a little bit more time now, but I am really looking forward to it because I freaking love GTA. Cool. Cool. Well, you might that be able to replay four too, if the rumors are true. I am hoping i am hoping.
01:13:27
Speaker
Nico, let's go bowling. c ah Yes. GTA San Andreas is awesome, dude. Love that game. um It was so good, dude. The music was banging. ah The story was awesome. The characters were awesome. It was very customizable and i really love it.
01:13:43
Speaker
And Vice City is my favorite, but San Andreas is is very close. They're all so good. They're all so good, really. yeah Three I didn't finish, though. ah Three I just played a little one didn't finish for whatever reason.
01:13:54
Speaker
Well, that tree was basically a sandbox, right? There wasn't really much of a... study The main character didn't even talk in that one, remember? It was just... Yeah. but I think you could probably skip three, but do what you want. um All right. And we know Hodge doesn't care about GTA, so we'll ahead and keep it moving.
01:14:09
Speaker
Um, my number 17 pick, and I'm going to keep this brief because this is a game that already came up and we already talked about And it is Fallout New Vegas. Fallout New Vegas is my number 17 game of all time for reasons that I've already mentioned.
01:14:23
Speaker
The, the factions, the storytelling, the role playing obsidian doing what they do best. What they don't do best is make like super big, well-polished games, but what they do best is role playing and story. And they nailed it on this and I love it.
01:14:38
Speaker
and i'll just keep it to that because we already got into it so fallout new vegas is my number 17. all right well that's gonna bring me to my number 16 then and my number 16 is the legend of zelda the wind waker i freaking well we all know i'm a huge huge zelda fan i absolutely love these games uh wind waker is my favorite 3d zelda um I adore the art style. um I just remember getting this game and immediately i got it for Christmas and I did not want to open the rest of my gifts. I just wanted to go down and play Wind Waker like right away.
01:15:14
Speaker
um i remember booting up in GameCube for the first time and like just... freaking out and when you go to forsaken fortress right at the beginning of the game and you lose your sword and you have to sneak around if you get caught you get thrown back in prison in like your jail cell and i i just have so many fond memories it was like an open it was like being able to sail the seas and obviously the world is nowhere near as big as i remember as a kid but i thought it was so big and vast and i'm like oh my god i can go to any island i want here and i can
01:15:45
Speaker
Like, go do any dungeon in any order, which you can do in pretty much any Zelda game, for the most part. um But I really adored the cartoonish art style. I thought it was a perfect example. And those graphics hold up so well today on the GameCube.
01:16:00
Speaker
um And I can't wait to replay it on Switch 2. I wish we were getting the Wii U version, because that Wii U version is awesome. There was a lot of quality of life improvements on it. Unfortunately, we're not, but I'll take what I can get so I can play it on Switch. i'm So looking forward to it. And um I think this interpretation of Zelda, like her interpretation of this game is the best Zelda we've ever gotten.
01:16:21
Speaker
So I'm really excited to jump back in and replay it. Dungeon design in this game is phenomenal. There's not a lot of dungeons in this game. It's actually one of the Zelda games with the almost the least amount of dungeons other than Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. But um for what they do, the way they're designed, it's it's like perfect these dungeons are almost like perfect Zelda dungeons.
01:16:45
Speaker
So... I'm a little confused. Why wouldn't Nintendo take the newest version, the Wii U, and port that forward? What what are they doing? Because they're only doing it on the GameCube online and NSO collection, so they're doing the GameCube version. So they're not porting. It's not a port. It's just like a, hey, we're adding it to NSO.
01:17:02
Speaker
okay the wind waker version is freaking the wii u version is freaking amazing though like it looks it's it's wind waker hd it looks gorgeous and they included a lot of quality of life stuff like you can sail a lot faster the sailing was pretty slow in the original they included they call it the swift sail and you can go extremely fast and they they just do a lot of quality of life and they add in like hero mode right away and it's it's a lot of fun Okay, all right.
01:17:31
Speaker
um I didn't play this game. The only Zelda I've played is Ocarina of Time. Black, do you have anything to say on this? Well, the funny thing is I was hoping this would pop up because um GTA got delayed to next year. So the rest of the year is completely open for me because that was the only game apart from Death Stranding 2, which I was looking forward to and other ones too, if if it doesn't get delayed as well.
01:17:51
Speaker
um So I have four games that I want to play this year, which I've never played before. And that's Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. All phenomenal games. All four of those games are 10 out of 10.
01:18:05
Speaker
I hope so. I hope so. There are huge gaps. um So I was doing my research and I was looking looking up what the they look like and how do they differ. So I'll start, of course, with Ocarina of Time. But when I saw Wind Waker, I was like, oh, this looks so cool. This is so different. It's like so shaded. So I'm really excited to get to that one. Yeah. The animations the characters make, it's so unique to Zelda. And it's like it's...
01:18:32
Speaker
It's very emotive and it's awesome. And it creates some very funny scenes. Like there's a scene in an auction house where um like you're're you're just trying to bid on something and you're like, you're just trying to raise the bid and get it a certain length and you're not actually trying to buy it.
01:18:46
Speaker
And then obviously i think you can put two and two together what happens. And it the the face that Link makes, it's it's hilarious. Oh, that's cool. i' I'm really excited to get to those. Hopefully just starting this month somewhere.
01:18:59
Speaker
um So I'm really happy it's on your list. All right, man. That's a lot of Zelda to play. ah ah Four games. All right. Well, enjoy them. um Hodge, sir.
01:19:10
Speaker
ah You are up. Yeah, I was actually one of the ones who, when Wind Waker was announced, I was like, I don't like that art style because I was just so used to the Ocarina and Majora's Mask art style that all sudden was like so cartoony and weird. But since it's coming to the GameCube thing on NSO, I will be playing it because I just want to give it a try because obviously I fell in love with the other Zelda games that I hadn't played. So I wonder if this one will do the same, but yeah, I'm very excited to play it when the, when the switch two comes out. So I'm looking forward to that, but I have not yet played it.

Celebrating Iconic Multiplayer Games

01:19:48
Speaker
um But my number 16 is a little known game that might have made a ah system very popular was halo three.
01:19:59
Speaker
Um, I remember I was playing my, one of my buddies had 360. I didn't have one yet. And we were always playing call of duty two together on it. And it was a lot of fun and everything. And then i had a part-time job and I was saving up for either 360 or PS3. I wasn't sure which one I wanted yet, ah but most of my friends had 360s already. So i was leaning that way, but then i was like, Oh, i don't want the blu-ray player.
01:20:28
Speaker
But my ah older brother was like, no, man, you get a 360. It has HD DVDs. And we all know that happened. But anyway, ah that's a long wood way of saying I bought it and I got Halo three when I bought it with it. So we dropped Call of Duty two immediately. i went over to Halo three and we're like, oh, my God, this is incredible.
01:20:51
Speaker
And we played the multiplayer forever. i it was actually a while before I even jumped into the campaign because we were loving the multiplayer so much. But ah yeah, I just adore it. It was the last great Halo game that came out. there's Obviously, I enjoy i enjoy ah Infinite and 4, but 3 was the last great one.
01:21:11
Speaker
And yeah. Yeah, I had so much fun with it. ah At the same time, Call of Duty 4 was out, so i was kind of swapping between them a little bit, but Halo 3 was definitely ah beloved game, and I still love hopping into it on MCC here and there. So, yeah, Halo 3 is my pick.
01:21:29
Speaker
Finish the fight. Hell yeah. yeah Yeah, Halo 3 is awesome. I played a ton of it for a time until we eventually switched over to COD 4, but man, it was...
01:21:41
Speaker
whoa are you okay show was no there was a there's a car that just drove by my house is beeping crazy oh that's a horn all right well with that said yeah halo 3 is great um lock what you got to say sir uh yeah i like i like halo a lot i don't have the the same reverence to it as most people have because i was mostly a pc player back then but uh yeah i i I had an Xbox. I loved Halo. I thought it was great. Again, the multiplayer, I know it's very important for console players, but back then we already had Counter-Strike, so the multiplayer to me was always like, whatever.
01:22:21
Speaker
um But I know a lot of people loved it, so I thought the story was great in 3. The campaign was great.
01:22:28
Speaker
No doubt, no doubt. All right. You want to get into your number 16?

Gaming Masterpieces and Storytelling

01:22:31
Speaker
yeah. I'm sorry. Yeah, my number 16 would have been Baldur's Gate 3. But that got me thinking, like, did I really enjoy Baldur's Gate 3 more than the previous Larian game?
01:22:43
Speaker
And the answer is, I think I didn't, but I'm not sure because Baldur's Gate 3 is still too fresh in my mind. It's only two years old. So I didn't feel right putting Baldur's Gate 3 here.
01:22:54
Speaker
So I put Divinity Original Sin 2 here, which was the previous Larian game. um And this was back when Larian wasn't as famous at all. um Console players didn't even know them at all, I think, because the previous games weren't even on console.
01:23:09
Speaker
um But Divinity Original Sin 2 was a CRPG that blew everyone away on Steam. You can still look at the Steam reviews. I think it's still an overwhelmingly positive. It has so many reviews on there as well. It was a huge success.
01:23:24
Speaker
Blew open the gates for Larian. got them ultimately got them the Baldur's Gate III license and and the rest is history. But the Vinytri Original Sin 2 was basically their own version of Baldur's Gate III without the lore of Baldur's Gate it's not as the the production value is not as high, but you can definitely see all the elements that made Baldur's Gate three. Uh, great are already here in the village original sin too. So that's my number 16. Great game. Fantastic game. I don't know.
01:23:53
Speaker
Midnight. i you I know you played it, right? But I don't know if Hodge, you didn't play it. No, I didn't play it. I own the game and it is on the backlog. It's something that I plan to get to at some point. Um, Baldur's Gate 3 was my first real major CRPG experience.
01:24:08
Speaker
um And they they definitely won me over with that one. So I'm looking forward to playing more CRPGs in the future. And Infinity Original Sin 2 is one of the top ones. I also want to play that ah Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader.
01:24:23
Speaker
This week or next week, the final DLC launches. because and So if you want to get into it, next week or the week after would be the perfect time. Because the game is finally... complete. I've been waiting two freaking years to finally be able to complete the game. So, yeah.
01:24:36
Speaker
One of my issues personally with the CRPGs is I am a Neanderthal, if you will. I don't like games where I have to read a bunch without voice acting.
01:24:48
Speaker
I don't mind reading, but I like voice acting. I want to do both. I read it as I'm hearing it. you know I don't like games where I'm only reading and it's completely silent. And a lot of the older CRPGs, you're just reading like piles of text. yeah And that doesn't do it for me. I don't know.
01:25:01
Speaker
In Divinity Original Sin 2, everything is voice acted. So you're good there. Yeah, I know. Is Rogue Trader? Nope. No, Road Trader is is old school. so there's Oh, fuck. Damn it. All right Maybe I won't play that. We'll see.
01:25:12
Speaker
um All right. Does anyone have bars on a Divinity Original Sin 2? Probably not. Hodge, I know you love this game. You want to give us 10 minutes on Divinity? Oh, yeah. have the Divinity tattoo on my back, and I just live and breathe it. and My favorite thing.
01:25:29
Speaker
On your lower back, Divinity Original Sin Tramp Stamp? No, because I still have my exit only tramp stamp down there. Okay. Okay. all right. And with that said, let me go ahead and jump into my number 16 pick.
01:25:45
Speaker
This is another one that we've already talked about, but I didn't say anything about it because I knew it was coming up and it's the last of us, the last of us, part one, ah masterpiece 10 out of 10 game, the best game on the PlayStation three by far.
01:26:00
Speaker
um This game is phenomenal. I love it so much. um The characters are insane. The story is insane. The graphics at the time were great. The combat was pretty fun. I enjoyed the crafting. 100%. 100 times out of 100, if I was Joel, I would make the exact same choice that he did at the end.
01:26:19
Speaker
Without spoiling too much, let's just say bodies are hitting the floor. um You know what I'm saying? and ah but Maybe one thing I would change is I would spare ah some people in the final room there. That way it doesn't come back to haunt me later.
01:26:31
Speaker
But... Anyway, The Last of Us is awesome. um I haven't played 2 because it got spoiled for me, and what was spoiled for me, I didn't like at all. um And I saw the ending, and I didn't like the ending at all.
01:26:43
Speaker
And I was like, that's stupid. and I don't want to play as Abby for 10 hours. I don't like her because of what happened. Blah, blah, blah. But I do need to eventually play Last of Us 2. I need to try it out. need to man up because everyone else is, you guys keep you know sucking it off. You guys are giving it the Gok Gok 9000 special here.
01:27:00
Speaker
ah So it must be pretty good. Well, you shouldn't replay it someday. You should replay it in exactly one week when the show is over. And then you'll see how bad the show is, well, at least to me, compared to the game.
01:27:13
Speaker
Yeah. ah Well, that's not going to happen, but I will play it sometime. I will play it sometime. So The Last of Us is my number 16 pick, and we already talked about it. So we'll just go ahead keep it moving here, Sean. You want to take it away?
01:27:24
Speaker
Yeah, my number 15 is Super Mario Sunshine. It's my favorite 3D Mario game. I got it first for GameCube on release day back in 2002. I was so six years old. It came out two weeks after my sixth birthday.
01:27:39
Speaker
and I adore this game. I replay this game all the time. 100% it almost every year. uh isle delfino is like a dream vacation spot for me if i can go anywhere in a video game world it would be isle delfino all the different hub worlds are really cool they're all beach they're all like a tropical theme so you have your amusement park that's right on a beach you have a like a tropical hotel that ends up being haunted with booze you have a beach where there's a mad wiggler running around and there's like a giant sandbird um i think the designs for the shine sprites are like
01:28:12
Speaker
and incredible in this game each all 120 they're very unique um all of them are super fun to get um they're challenging ah but at the same time they're not like too too difficult i know this game gets a lot of flack for collecting blue coins i like collecting the blue coins i think it's fun it's just another collectible all the different nozzles for the flood mechanic are like really interesting and really cool um and i used to play the game and just like run around Al Delfino and be like, oh, this is like, this is, I'm just going to play here and just pretend like I'm like role, almost like role playing in like in the world. Like, oh, Mario. I'm on vacation.
01:28:47
Speaker
Like I'm not actually going to play the real game. um But yeah, it was, it was a blast. um My favorite hub world is probably Rico Harbor. I really like Rico Harbor. I think it's really cool. It takes place on like a harbor side and there's like boats coming in and out and there's some of my favorite shine sprites are in that level.
01:29:06
Speaker
um But yeah, Super Mario Sunshine. Phenomenal game. Okay. You know, you said something and it kind of scratched something in my ah in my brain here. You said that ah whatever was like your favorite video game destination that you really wanted to go to.
01:29:22
Speaker
And I just thought maybe like a real quick sidebar. What do you guys think would be your favorite? I got one that immediately came to mind. It was Columbia from Bioshock Infinite, the floating Americana city.
01:29:33
Speaker
Dude, I would love to visit that in real life and even maybe live there. That place is awesome, dude. Columbia would be my pick for video game place you want to visit. ah Locke or Hodge, do you guys have a ah thought on that? That's so funny that keep on so funny that you said that because that was literally the first thing that also popped in my up but popped up in my head.
01:29:50
Speaker
I think it's because Sean was talking about Sunshine and that game is so you're in the clouds and it's so shiny. So maybe the the connotation is there, but I'm there. I'm scared of heights, terribly scared of heights. So maybe maybe that that wouldn't be a good one.
01:30:03
Speaker
um The other one for me. Well, it it would be my next game. So we'll we'll talk about it when when we get there. OK. um hodge did you have a place that you'd like to visit or if not i was going to sarcastically say a rapture but yes you guys said uh columbia but uh no just uh give me the fictional japan with actual pokemon i want to live in the world of pokemon oh there you go yeah all right well does anyone have super mario sunshine bars before we move on i don't i haven't played it but never played wish i did but never played it yeah
01:30:35
Speaker
I played it It's not my favorite Mario game, but it was a lot of fun. ah So I understand it. But my number 15 is tonally basically the same as Super Mario Sunshine, and that is Alan Wake.
01:30:49
Speaker
um ah Yeah, exactly the same. Exactly the same. ah Yeah, this was... One of like if I had to make a list of just like my favorite 360 era games, this would be on the top five because I loved this game so much.
01:31:06
Speaker
It was obviously a Xbox exclusive. I replayed this game multiple times um on that. Then I replayed it twice, i think, on the remastered version. Played it, think, another time before playing Alan Wake 2 and all that. So i've I've just... The gameplay, it's one of those where the gameplay hasn't aged you know very well, but don't think it plays as poorly as some people act. But ah the story is just so, so good.
01:31:36
Speaker
i love the Stephen King-esque psychological mystery of you know where'd his wife go and all... And it's just so... it's i just love it's the it's all and all the games are in like or all the levels are in chapters so you'll get to a certain part of the the story and it'll be like end of chapter and then obviously you just skip ahead to the chapter uh continuation but like i just love the structure of it i love the but the setting and like the mystery and
01:32:08
Speaker
ah just I've loved this game ever since it came out. and i was so i I lost my absolute shit when they announced Alan Wake 2 at the Key Leagues, however many years ago that was. I remember just losing my mind. ah But yeah, so I love Alan Wake 1. It's one of my favorite games of all time. So it's at number 15.

Community and Exploration in Gaming

01:32:30
Speaker
Very nice. I still need to play that. um Sean, did you play Alan Wake? I don't remember. I've not played them, no. I've not played them. okay how about you lock yeah i love i love alan wick i love alan wick too well arch is alan wick too higher up in your list or or not there we'll see oh okay okay that's okay i figured i figured i figured okay cool all right uh you want to give us your number 15 sure number 15 is a game that came out the same year as san andreas because there were two games that kept me occupied um
01:33:00
Speaker
And one of them kept me up occupied for a decade. And that was the best MMO of all time, World of Warcraft. Very nerdy, very geeky, I know, very stupid. But um back then, World of Warcraft had like a sense of exploration that no other game has ever been able to replicate. Back then, in World of Warcraft, there weren't instances. So everyone on the server knew each other. And everyone on the server...
01:33:26
Speaker
um had something special. So this guy was able to manage to to get this sword. There was no transmog or whatever the games have these days. So if you found something, it was unique to your character.
01:33:36
Speaker
So there was this guy who couldn't who had this sword that nobody else had. And this guy was a thief that everybody else that everybody knew that he was a thief because he scammed some guy. And this guy did this and this guy did that.
01:33:47
Speaker
So there was a real sense of community discovery and exploration in this game, which is completely absent now. the World of Warcraft these days is not the game it used to be. um But back then, it was incredible to me. It was it was like a Bethesda game to me. Like every day I would just go out and explore new new sites and find new things, find new quests, make new friends.
01:34:09
Speaker
Amazing. I love this game. Or loved this game, I should say. Not anymore. um I replayed. I played one of the expansions last year with Brad from LSM.
01:34:19
Speaker
And we were both were we both were like, oh, this is it's just not the WoW we used to love. Okay. Yeah, I played a little bit of World of Warcraft in my day. Not nearly as much as you. I think I only got into it maybe for like a year and kind of fell off. But um it was pretty awesome.
01:34:36
Speaker
um I do remember like what was cool is like if you played a hunter on the horde side, I think um there were like there were they got rid of this, which is freaking stupid.
01:34:47
Speaker
um But there were unique monsters in the in the world and you could charm the unique monsters and make them your pet. So some people had really cool pets. not like like I remember there was one, there was like a white boar that was named Special Boar, and I remember I had that as a pet.
01:35:01
Speaker
ah Not the basic bitch boar, I had like the cool white boar. um But they got rid of that now, and like you can't do that anymore, so everyone has basic bitch pets, and that's stupid. But ah anyway, ah yeah, World of Warcraft, awesome pick.
01:35:13
Speaker
um I will go ahead and keep it moving here. number 15 pick is Another franchise game, the best of the franchise, and it is Fable 2.
01:35:25
Speaker
Fable 2, one of my favorite games of all time, obviously. Number 15, to be exact. um This game has a phenomenal world and story. The humor is this on point. Like, I love that quirky British humor that they have.
01:35:38
Speaker
Really great story with you and your sister and, like, all the dark elements. Really cool, like, immersive sim elements. How, like, you could kind of buy property. You could set the rent. um You know, you could you could sell stuff. You could marry whoever you want.
01:35:52
Speaker
You could do all kinds of stuff. And there would be reactions. I've mentioned this before. If you had multiple wives and if they found out, oh, it would go down. Yeah, they would start fighting and stuff. And like, it was great.
01:36:02
Speaker
um But this game was awesome. the The combat and the gameplay was really fun. Like the little doors that you had to like solve a puzzle to get in and get the chest was amazing. Dude, that everything about this game was great. You had a dog. The dog was awesome. And he helped you like find and dig up treasure and stuff.
01:36:18
Speaker
um This game is awesome. Everybody should play Fable 2, in my opinion. um It is the best Fable game. I'm looking forward to the next one. It won't be as good as Fable 2, though, I bet. ah But yeah, that's my number 15, Fable 2.
01:36:33
Speaker
Sean's favorite games. Oh, yeah. My favorite game that I still need to play. Yep. All right. good We can keep it moving if no one has thoughts on that. We'll keep moving.
01:36:45
Speaker
um All right. and Speaking of a game with really good writing, my number 15 is actually it's actually going to be an amendment. I mean, my number 14 is amendment. So I put Ni No Kuni 2 as my number 10 on my top 10 games list. This is actually goingnna fall to number 14.
01:37:01
Speaker
And that's mainly because I was just really thinking about it more. But I am going to talk about what my number 10 would be. And that is Paper Mario, The Thousand Year Door. um This game is incredible. all right's It's it's like spelled out the thousand. like Actually spelled out, not one, zero, zero. oh sorry john my bad um the thousand year door um i really enjoy this game uh mario rpgs are known for their hilarious writing and their um their battle systems too like this is one of the last traditional turn-based um paper mario battle game this had the you know timing where you could um you know dodge attacks and you could um
01:37:41
Speaker
You could damage opponents when they want to attack you if you time the button presses correctly. It had a really interesting level-up mechanic where you every time you level up, you would select HP, FP, or BP. BP was like your badges, and you would equip badges to do special moves.
01:37:59
Speaker
Flower points were like your special points you'd have to spend to use those moves, and then HP is obviously your health. It was so much fun that when you got you eventually get really good at the game and you can run through the game without ever upgrading your health. So you have five HP the entire game, but you would just try to like run through the game. And I actually used to speed run this game.
01:38:17
Speaker
I love this game so much. It's divided into eight chapters. All the party members you get are super, super memorable and super phenomenal. Like um Vivian is my absolute go to favorite.
01:38:29
Speaker
favorite party member, but they're all so good. Bobbery's story is heartbreaking. Um, if you have not played this game and you're like a turn-based fan, I highly suggest this game. You will laugh at this game.
01:38:41
Speaker
Um, but there are some heart-wrenching moments. I know it's a Mario game, but there are some heart-wrenching moments. Um, It is a lot of fun. I would love for a a new traditional turn-based Paper Mario game. Sadly, we have not gotten one, and now this game came out in 2004, so it's been forever. It was re-released on Switch last year. i definitely say the GameCube version is the better version to play, though. The GameCube version is at 60 FPS, and it just feels a little bit smoother.
01:39:06
Speaker
But the we the the Switch version is really still a good game to play. Highly suggest it. Paper Mario, the Thousand Year Doer. Okay. um I will say this, that the Paper Mario or the Mario RPG type of games are something that I want to try on the Switch 2 at some point.
01:39:24
Speaker
So not just Fire Emblem, but also maybe some Mario RPG-ness.
01:39:32
Speaker
All right, Hodge. Would you like to see my RPG-ness? I would. Oh, ah I've never played a Paper Mario. I've always loved that art style look, though, but I've never gotten around of them. But my number 14 is a another Nintendo game, a little known game called a Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
01:39:57
Speaker
So this game, so i pet I've said on here before, but I didn't have an N64 growing up, so I never really played Legend of Zelda too much. um So when I got a 3DS in like, I don't know, 2015 or something like that.
01:40:13
Speaker
I bought the 3D version of this game and I played it. And when I started up I was like, is this going to be one of those games where people say it's the best ever, you know, because of nostalgia or whatever.
01:40:24
Speaker
And but I played it and i loved every single moment of this game. It is it holds up so well. It definitely deserves it when Pete wears. I know a lot of people have called this the best game of all time. So it's like I understand when people say that how well this game holds up. It is so, so, so good.
01:40:41
Speaker
and I loved every moment of it. I'm actually hoping to replay it here again soon. i might play it on Switch, or I'll just play the 3DS version. I can't decide, because I actually liked playing it in 3D. I loved that feature of the system.
01:40:53
Speaker
The stuff looked so cool in 3D, so I might play it there, or I'll just play the N64 online one on the Switch, but I haven't decided. But I do want replay this game, and yeah, I love it.
01:41:04
Speaker
So yeah, Hockerian of Time. Hodge, I would suggest playing the 3D version if you've only played that one because you might have a hard time going back to the older one because there's a lot of quality of life improvements. that's fair. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because they never brought an actual port of it to Switch, right? It's just the NSO one. yeahs Yeah, that's what I thought. Maybe I'll do the DS one. Give me excuse to play my DS again. I haven't done it in so long.
01:41:30
Speaker
who All right. Yeah, that's a great game. I love it. Very good. um I don't have a whole lot to say on it because I don't remember a ton of it, but I do remember that it was phenomenal.
01:41:41
Speaker
um And, you know, one of the best games on the Nintendo 64 by far and the only Zelda game I've played thus far, but I will play more in the future. ah Locke, do you have thoughts? And then you're up. ah Well, I'm very excited to get to it. Hopefully. Well, not hopefully. Within the next couple of weeks, I'll i'll be playing it for the first time.
01:41:57
Speaker
I'm very excited for that. My number 14 is a game in a series you already touched upon, Midnight, because this is my favorite one in this series. And number my number 14 is Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
01:42:10
Speaker
um I love pirates. I love everything that has anything to do with pirates. I love pirates movies. I love pirate books. I love pirate games. there aren There aren't that many of them. And the best pirate game, to me, anyway, Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
01:42:23
Speaker
Close. we're Pretty close. It's Assassin's Creed Black Flag. um What I love about this game is exactly what Sean described about what he loved about Wind Waker. You have all these islands. You can get there. You can explore them.
01:42:35
Speaker
There's many hidden treasures, so many hidden cool little things. The combat was simple, but it worked. The music in this game was phenomenal, exceptional, great. The ship combat was so much fun. The sea shanties were so much fun.
01:42:47
Speaker
I love this game. I can't wait for the remake and the remake will probably end up in my top ten. Love this game. Heck yeah. I played this game very, very deep, very far, ah but I didn't finish it, and I don't know why.
01:43:01
Speaker
Somehow I got distracted and fell off. I got to the point where I was like battling like the boss ships like out in the middle of the ocean and stuff, um but I didn't finish the story, so I'm waiting for the remake if it comes out, and then I'm going to replay the game from start to finish, and I can't wait.
01:43:15
Speaker
This game was awesome. I know it was awesome from what I played. um yeah what One of the best endings of all time. If you haven't seen it yet, you'll you'll be amazed. one of the best i I don't know how it ends, so that's good. all right i don't You guys haven't played this, right? now No, this is my favorite Assassin's Creed game.
01:43:31
Speaker
By far. It's by far my favorite Assassin's Creed. I i don't have any Assassin's Creed on my top 20, but this is by far my favorite one. I love this one because it was the first one where it didn't take its itself too seriously. But it was also, sadly, the first like post-Desmond one, so they had to still try and make Abstergo relevant. And it's like, please stop with this. I don't need this any anymore. Just let us play as Assassin.
01:43:53
Speaker
We don't need the modern day crap. like yeah It made sense with Desmond's story, but when you just become an Abstergo guy just sneaking out of computers, it's like, what is this crap? Just let me play as an assassin. I was just going to say that's my favorite one. The modern day in this game is complete crap.
01:44:13
Speaker
You can circumvent most of it, but it's complete crap. Yeah. yeah The modern day is pretty lame most of the time, honestly, other than Desmond. yeah um okay my number 14 pick is another game that you love hodge and it is the original bioshock the first bioshock my number 14 this game is a masterpiece what an amazing setting rapture is it's creepy it's stylistic it's libertarian it's freaking awesome
01:44:45
Speaker
um It's so cool. The combat is fun. I like the plasmids or whatever with the abilities and stuff. The big daddies. ah It's freaking cool, dude. Awesome game. Awesome story. The ending is really good. And I'm not going to say anything because I don't want to spoil anything.
01:45:00
Speaker
If people are out there, haven't played Bioshock yet. You need to do it. You need to play it. I'm not going to mention at all anything about the ending, like I said, because I don't want to spoil it because it's awesome. um But yeah, this game is phenomenal and it is my number

Classic Games and Nostalgia

01:45:13
Speaker
14 pick. And I'll just I'll leave it at that. We've talked about this in the past.
01:45:16
Speaker
um So, yeah, if anyone has thoughts on Bioshock, otherwise, let's ah let's go. yeah i mean and as yeah as i said earlier it was my number one this is i love this game so much i'm uh i want to replay the trilogy at some point maybe this year or next year i just want to do it before judas comes out which is you know probably five years out so ah so i uh i want to replay this but yeah this is my favorite game of all time so awesome pick great game All right. Well, my number 13 is a spiritual successor to Paper Mario, and that is Bug Fables.
01:45:53
Speaker
This is a turn-based RPG. um It's an indie game, and it is paper-based, just like Paper Mario, and it literally is the spiritual successor. It has the writing and the humor of those original Paper Mario games.
01:46:08
Speaker
ah The combat is essentially the same thing. And it's the same level up system. I love the world of you're in a world of Bulgaria and you play as three different bugs in your party. And they're just trying to navigate the kingdom and they're working for the ant queen.
01:46:22
Speaker
And you're trying to discover basically this giant secret. And, um, It's an awesome game. Shout out to there's a world that you go to called the Termite Kingdom, and it is terrifying that you go to. And then when you find out like what actually is going on, like you, like there's like a giant desert area and it's actually just like a giant sandbox.
01:46:43
Speaker
um There's a, you end up going into a refrigerator at one point. um They call humans the ancient giant people, and they're like menaces um because they're trying to kill bugs, obviously.
01:46:56
Speaker
Overall, the game is a lot of fun. There's a lot of cool side content, too. The story is incredibly deep as well. The lore is really deep. ah They are in works to make a sequel. I'm hoping, I don't know how long it's going to take, because this game was in development for a long time.
01:47:12
Speaker
I have the collector's edition of this game on open. I just really adore this game and shout out to Vi is a bee. She's in your party. She's like a bumblebee and I love her. She's awesome. She's super sassy, super funny, and she's an absolute beast in combat.
01:47:29
Speaker
Wow. This game must be amazing because I just pulled it up on Steam to get a look at it and it has an overwhelmingly positive 97% of The game's awesome.
01:47:42
Speaker
Yeah, so maybe I'll have to play this someday. Who knows? It looks cool. I like the art style. Bug Fables. Shout out to the bugs.
01:47:52
Speaker
All right. All right. I don't know if anyone else has bars on that. Probably not, but it sounds cool. Hodge, what's up with you? Yeah, i got nothing on that one, but it sounds cool. 13, for me, ah these my top three of this list could have easily been swapped in my top 10.
01:48:09
Speaker
um I'm not going to mess with my top 10 just because it's not really that important. but so i'm just gonna But these three could easily slide in there. But ah my number 13 is a little game called Kirby's Adventure for n NES.
01:48:24
Speaker
Ooh. I loved this game. This is the like the game that I played by far the most on n NES. And I had all the Mario games. I had Legend of Zelda. I had Duck Hunt. I had like I had every, you know, banger NES game.
01:48:38
Speaker
But this is the one I played the most. I always just love Kirby, the whole absorbing and taking their powers and just the old school 2D platforming. I just I loved it. doing all the little mini games like ah the shootout and like the trying to bounce on the pad to get prizes. It was just everything about it. It was just a delight and i loved playing it. So this, yeah, throwing it in there at my number 13.
01:49:05
Speaker
and All right. Excellent. I haven't played this one. Sean, how about you? You got thoughts on that? The only Kirby game I've played is Air Riders. Oh, Kirby Air Ride. And then, obviously, I got my beloved Kirby Air Riders coming out soon. I can't wait. Dude, you got to play Forbidden Land. That game was awesome. Yeah, I know. i knew I'm going to play the Kirby games. I'm going to. Hell yeah.
01:49:26
Speaker
All right. Locke, do you have thoughts? And then you're next. I never played a Furby game. oh Sorry, Furby game. kirby A Kirby I've never played a Furby game either, yeah.
01:49:38
Speaker
A Kirby game, because I didn't grow up on Nintendo, but it always looked ah very cool to me. So um maybe maybe one maybe if I get really into Zelda, it opens up Mario and Kirby to me as well.
01:49:49
Speaker
That's what I'm hoping for. um Sean, the game you talked about, but ah it has a subtitle. um but Everlasting Saffling. All right. I bought it right now, so I hope it's... i hope It looks amazing.
01:50:02
Speaker
So I just bought it on Steam. You'll like it. You'll like it. Yeah. But my number 13 is a game that was on your list too. and Well, the third iteration in this series was on your list, Midnight, and it was your number one.
01:50:16
Speaker
But the second game in that series is my number 13. um And that's Mass Effect 2. yeah I love Mass Effect 2. It came out in 2010. um Gathering your party, gathering the team to go on a suicide mission.
01:50:28
Speaker
Brilliant. One of the best stories or one of the best premises in any game ever, I should say. Fantastic way to make you connected to your team members. I'll never forget ah getting Jack, for instance, in the prison or but wherever you get all the other ones. It's ah more than it's so great. The characters are so good.
01:50:48
Speaker
To me, this was Bioware at its peak. um It never surpassed it to me. I know you like three better, but to me, this was Bioware's peak. And ever since then, it's been a slow degree to to where we are now.
01:50:59
Speaker
Even though Mass Effect 3 or 2 could be interchanged for me. But ah yeah, I love, love, love Mass Effect 2. At some point, I want to replay through the entire series as as female Shepard. I never did that. I always played as male Shep. So yeah, Mass Effect 2 is brilliant. Beautiful. Fantastic game.
01:51:18
Speaker
Yeah. Mass Effect 2 is incredible. It would be on my list. Um, but I am somewhat adopting a loose version of Sean's restriction. Um, I'm not doing direct sequels where it's story based. Um, I am doing same games from franchises if it's different characters and different stories.
01:51:33
Speaker
Um, but I'm not going to do Mass Effect 2 because it's a direct continuation of, you know, the shepherd, uh, and already had three, but yeah, this game is phenomenal. Um, I also never played as FemShep and I should probably do that one day.
01:51:44
Speaker
Um, you know I do need to replay Mass Effect 2 and 3 from the Legendary Edition. I played the first one as Male Shep. But maybe I'll play Mass Effect 2 as Fem Shep one of these days.
01:51:56
Speaker
And, Hodge, you need to do the same. I think you you talked about in the past that this was something you might play. Yeah, i played the I was going to play through the trilogy when ah the remastered trilogy got added to Game Pass. And I only got through the first one and then about five hours into the second one before I got distracted from It might have been when I started school. i can't remember what it was, but I fell off the second one. I was loving it. I just fell off because I got busy. So I do want to go back and play it because, yeah, I didn't like them or like like the look of them when they first came out. But then eventually I was like, you know what? I'll try them because they're so beloved. And yeah, I loved the first one. So I'm looking forward to going back to the second one eventually.
01:52:36
Speaker
Two is so much better than the first one too. Yeah. that's It's like twice or more as good. It's amazing. You'll love it when you get to it. um No pressure. yeah,
01:52:47
Speaker
I'm up next, my number 13 here. I'm going to go ahead. I'm going to actually change my order from my list, which you guys can't see. ah But I'm going to slot these in a slightly different order. I'm going to say that my number 13 is The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.
01:53:00
Speaker
So ah again, this is, you know, I had Skyrim, of course, in my top, but this is not a direct, it's not the same story. It's different characters. So in my loose rules, it works. ah This game is awesome. I am hoping that it's not nostalgia goggles like you mentioned, Locke, because I haven't played it ah since it came out on 360.
01:53:17
Speaker
in like 2000, whatever the fuck, 2005 or something. So it very much might be nostalgia goggles, ah you know, flavoring this pick for me. Maybe it's not as good as I remember, but I remember it being absolutely phenomenal. I love the story. The story was awesome.
01:53:31
Speaker
ah The world, you know, with the Cyrodiil or whatever, the capital was awesome. The emperor who was played by Picard, right? What was his name? What's the actor's name? Patrick Stewart. Patrick Stewart. Yeah. Playing the emperor.
01:53:42
Speaker
That's awesome. It's funny. I think they had like two big name actors and then they had like one or two guys playing like every other character in the game. like That's great.
01:53:53
Speaker
ah But yeah, this game's awesome. um I highly recommend that everybody play this game, especially now that the awesome remake is out there or reboot or super remaster or whatever. um And I am going to play the remaster at some point, but I just have too many games. So, but I will get to it. So Elder Scrolls for Oblivion, that's my pick.
01:54:11
Speaker
We already kind of talked about it here, so we can keep it moving. Sean. on All right. My pick is Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for the we of super for the Switch. I love Super Smash Brothers. This is a game I've put thousands of hours into.
01:54:28
Speaker
um I've loved every Smash Brothers game and just I ultimately defaulted to the the most current version. This has the most characters, the most stages. um The gameplay is phenomenal. You can play with so accessible.
01:54:40
Speaker
um This game still hits with kids today. um Yeah, I just love this game. I... it is a very much a pick up and play game. Anyone can pick up and play it. Um, I'll jump in from time to time. If I have like 20 minutes to kill and just play a couple matches or play through classic mode or yeah, it's great. Uh, I love playing as Yoshi. Yoshi's my favorite character to play as, but I also like playing as dark Samus.
01:55:03
Speaker
Also, they got my boy Sora and cloud in there. Somehow. I, I still cannot, remember when they announced Sora, I fricking lost my mind. And same thing with cloud. it caught in Sephiroth. It was insane. Um, but yeah, super smash brothers for, um, super smash brothers, ultimate insane game. Can't wait.
01:55:19
Speaker
Really excited to see what they do in the future. I really, really would love another one. Yeah. Somehow I've never played smash brothers. I don't know how, uh, I will probably play it sometime on switch too, in some form.
01:55:31
Speaker
Um, and I'll get my ass beat because you guys will be like really good at the game and I'll be brand new and it's, going to get destroyed. It's not gonna be fun for me, but, um, Anyone have thoughts on Smash Bros. Ultimate before we carry on?
01:55:45
Speaker
Hodge, do you? Yeah, I mean, I was, yeah, I can go. I didn't know if Locke was to say anything. But, hu ah yeah, I love ah Ultimate. i My main has always been Kirby, even since the first one. So it was fun that the story mode in Ultimate, you start as Kirby because he's only one who doesn't get, like,
01:56:01
Speaker
stolen or whatever that happens to them. So, um yeah, I love the playing those games. Melee is always is my favorite. It's always been my favorite, but ah they're all great, so there's really no wrong pick for having a favorite Smash Brothers game. So, yeah, it's a great pick. But ah my number 12 a little game.
01:56:25
Speaker
Yes, who knows? This might be recency bias, but It's forever. it takes forever for a game or it's a very rare thing for a game to get this in my head. And that is Claire Obscure Expedition 33.
01:56:38
Speaker
i have not had a game just grasping this hard as this game. Like I, I could not put it down. I'm not a turn based person as we discussed. Obviously we did whole spoiler cast gushing about it, but.
01:56:54
Speaker
I'm not a turn-based person, but I love to even i love to do the combat in this game. i it's just It was very Attack on Titan, the the story of just people basically having, instead of a wall, the ocean or whatever between them, of like what's out there, what's you know why is this happening to us kind of thing. so It was just an incredible, incredible story with a lot of twists. It was very Game of Thrones where it's like, who's safe, who isn't? like i it was I just loved it. and that
01:57:26
Speaker
Both endings I thought were great. ah It's not really a spoiler to say that there's not one ending. um But yeah, it's just, yeah've yeah, it's it was in my mind. I bought merch immediately. it was I think Death Stranding was the last game that really grasped me like to where I couldn't put it down.
01:57:46
Speaker
And so yeah, that's what this one is. And obviously Death Stranding is in my top 10. So yeah, it's I love this game. It was incredible. Mon ami. Mon ami.
01:57:58
Speaker
I think it's not an exaggeration to say that this Claire Obscure is probably the best thing that the French have ever have done since Napoleon. I mean, pretty much they've been pretty irrelevant. They had Napoleon, which was awesome, and then he finally got smacked down by the coalition, and then they've been irrelevant and nobody's cared until Claire Obscure. So shout out to Claire Obscure for bringing the French back.
01:58:20
Speaker
Exactly. ah pay Great pick. Great pick. Locke? Well, I'm very excited to to... I played Clear Obscure for, i and want to say, it three or four hours, or I streamed the first three or four hours.
01:58:33
Speaker
And I really liked what I played. But ever since then, this game has been slowly spoiled for me one sentence at a time. And it always starts with people saying, this is not a spoiler. But and then so I already I already know the ending. I already know what happens after the ending. I already know what happens at the end of Act 2. I already know what happens at the end of of Act 1. So this game basically got kind of ruined for me.
01:58:54
Speaker
So it's, it's, it's no, ugly i I can't judge on it. um I'll play it in a year, in two years, three years when I forgot all about it. But this is one of those games where I, I hate that I'm in like the gamer space and hear from so many people. Cause this,
01:59:07
Speaker
This game probably would have been really special to me, but now it can be. um But it it sounds amazing. Everybody loves it, so I'm sure it's it's great. I'm sure it's amazing. um And if if I would have played it probably also maybe would be my top 20, like Kingdom Come Universe 2 would have been too.
01:59:25
Speaker
um But my number 12 is a game two of you hate and one of you really likes. um key Can you guess what it is? Two of you really hate this game and one of you really likes this game.
01:59:36
Speaker
Skyrim. yeah Yes, wow. First guess. I should have guessed that one, didn't I? I was thinking it was it was. Yeah, I love Skyrim.
01:59:48
Speaker
I played ah Oblivion Remastered this past month, and while I was playing Oblivion Remastered, I was also playing Skyrim. So I went back and forth between the two just to see just to see where the difference lie and and which one is better and which one is not. For a video, of course. There will be a video ah so really soon.
02:00:06
Speaker
Allegedly.
02:00:09
Speaker
ah Exactly. um But yeah, Skyrim is just, it's it's in a, I get that you two don't like it. um I get that completely. Because I think if I wasn't into these type of games and then a decade later, I would go back to one of them, I probably wouldn't like it either. But I am into these type of games. And I think Skyrim probably does it the best out of all of them.
02:00:32
Speaker
out of all of the Bethesda style games. So I think this game this game is ah is amazing. it it was Everything that's ever been said about it has already been said, of course. So and there's there's not much to say, but i yeah, I think it's great. I love it.
02:00:47
Speaker
I agree. All right, we'll keep it moving. We know how they feel. We know how we all feel. Skyrim's awesome. My number 12 pick... This is another JRPG, actually. You know, I said that ah Octopath Traveler 2 was my highest, but I forgot that this is a JRPG.
02:01:03
Speaker
How could I forget this? ah And it is Fire Emblem Awakening on the 3DS. The best Fire Emblem game that I have played, and I've only played two of them, so that's not really saying that much.
02:01:15
Speaker
But this game was absolutely incredible. This was one of the first JRPGs that I've ever played. um I was never really into JRPGs. I was a big Western western Chad. Lots of sports game, lots of shooters, and lots of Western role-playing games. That's pretty much all Midnight did.
02:01:28
Speaker
um But I saw the trailer for a Fire Emblem Awakening and it just looked so cool. Like the anime weeby art style was fresh for me. um Like the turn based combat, the the tactical grid based combat, how it played a little cut scene and you saw like your attack and like 59 damage popped up. I'm like, oh, this is so cool.
02:01:47
Speaker
I literally bought a 3DS. I didn't own one. I bought a 3DS because I had to play this game. And boy, did it deliver. This game is incredible. I love the characters. I love the story.
02:01:58
Speaker
um I love the combat. um I love how you can form bonds with the characters. you can There's romance and like you can have kids and stuff that will come back later. and like It's f freaking awesome, dude.
02:02:09
Speaker
ah This game is incredible. I love Fire Emblem. I got two of them right here that I can't wait to get back into. you know I didn't have a Switch. um So I've been missing Fire Emblem. And I, I just, I'm so excited to play these new ones, man.
02:02:21
Speaker
Um, but yeah, Fire Emblem Awakening is a masterpiece in my opinion. It's the game that saved the franchise for people that don't know Fire Emblem was really struggling and the, and the devs kind of came out and said that like if Fire Emblem Awakening didn't hit that they were probably, it was probably done. Like they probably weren't going to make any more.
02:02:37
Speaker
Um, but Fire Emblem Awakening came out and it was a massive hit. Um, it sold very well. People loved it. And, we've gotten like what, like five games since then. So they're still going strong. Thanks to, uh,
02:02:48
Speaker
Thanks to awakening. So yeah, that's my number 12 pick.
02:02:54
Speaker
Kat loves it too. All right. Well, um, don't think anyone really anything to say, so I'm going to move on to my number 11. And, uh, I know I said I was keeping my, um, picks to one game per franchise, but I'm considering like 2d Mario and 3d Mario different and 2d Zelda and 2d and 3d Zelda different. So my number 11 is the legend of Zelda, a link to the past.
02:03:16
Speaker
Um, I, this is my favorite overall Zelda game. it's that Super Nintendo, you know, top down Zelda. I don't like to call it 2D. It's more like top down. Uh, this game blew me away when I played it as a kid. Um,
02:03:28
Speaker
It was like the mid 2000s when I, you know, first played it. And before it was before Windmaker. So it's probably like 2002, 2001. And yeah, I absolutely adored it. The music is phenomenal. The art style is just gorgeous to look at.
02:03:42
Speaker
i remember when I discovered there's a whole nother world, like the dark world. i like freaked out because it opened up all these new dungeons for me. And I was like, what? There's more to this game. And like as a little kid, i couldn't comprehend that, that it was like,
02:03:55
Speaker
this can't be possible um everyone you know says like ocarina of time set up the formula for zelda but it was it was really a link to the past that really set up the formula where you you go out you get these three items you come back then have to do something else and get the you know go out to these dungeons again and get more items um overall this game was fantastic i i think every single done this is like the perfect zelda game i think that the dungeons are perfectly designed ah The difficulty is there.
02:04:23
Speaker
um The secrets are not ah so not extremely obscure like the original Zelda. um And this is this really fleshed out the world of Hyrule much more. And it's a huge upgrade over the original.
02:04:34
Speaker
So yeah, Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past. If you have not played this game, highly suggest it. It is the best Zelda game.
02:04:43
Speaker
yeah it's definitely a classic. um If you ask most Zelda fans like what their favorite is, like A Link to the Past... uh, Ocarina of time and like, Breath of the Wild are the, are the probably the three that you're going to hear the most. so Um, I did play a bit of this game back in the day, but I did not even come close to finishing. I just played a little bit of it.
02:05:02
Speaker
Um, but yeah, if anyone has thoughts, otherwise Hodge is up.
02:05:09
Speaker
I, I have a question maybe. So I, I, I always thought that, that, uh, Ocarina of time, Majora's masks, uh, Majora's um, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker were the best ones. So that's not true.
02:05:21
Speaker
So I would. Well, those are like, it's different because some people like consider the 3D versions like different than the top down ones. oh um A Link to the Past is usually considered one of like, it's usually right there is like one of the best ones. Usually, and then link to the but like Midnight said, A Link to the Past, Ocarina and Breath of the Wild usually.
02:05:39
Speaker
So would you recommend that I start with that one? or A Link to the Past? I mean, I would. i would recommend that, but. Okay. I think it's awesome. Okay. cool ill just Just keep in mind, it's an n NES game. so you know No, it's not an NES game.
02:05:52
Speaker
ah Super Nintendo. that ego My bad, my bad, my bad. But yeah, just you gotta be in that mindset, obviously. But ah yeah. Hodge, you are up, sir.
02:06:03
Speaker
I would love for this game to get the links awakening treatment because I loved links awakening. I haven't played this one yet. I should, but, uh, links awakening was great. And so i would love for this game to get that, that treatment.
02:06:16
Speaker
But, um, anyway, my number 11 is, uh, it's in a series that I mentioned before, as we talked about is Alan wake too. um this game was worth the wait to me.
02:06:30
Speaker
um Really, my only complaint is kind of the same complaint some people have about it is you spend half of your game as not Alan Wake. So it kind of sucks for that. But Saga is such an interesting character that I don't really care because her story is awesome. It it all connects so well that she's out in the real world and he's in like the the dark place or whatever it's called. And it's just the...
02:06:56
Speaker
Well, one, it's also a beautiful game. I can't wait to play the pro enhanced version because apparently they made it like way more beautiful. But um yeah, I just adore everything about this game. As I was my number one artist on ah Spotify last year at the end of the year was Old Gods of Asgard. So you can say I love the music in these games too.
02:07:16
Speaker
i just, I love Remedy. And yeah, this game, it just, I love the the tight kind of, story of the first one and how the second one kind of expands it kind of the same kind the kingdom hearts how the first one was a contained story and then they expanded a shit ton in the sequel but i love the what they did what they added to it so yeah i just adore this game and yeah so my number 11 excellent all right lock you are up ah Well, my number 11, I'll keep this short, is is a game that revolutionized everything.

Modern Gaming Innovations and Favorites

02:07:50
Speaker
it came out in 2007.
02:07:52
Speaker
Before that, online multiplayer shooters were pretty simple. You had, like, ladders, and that was basically it. But this game this game changed everything, and that was Modern Warfare 1.
02:08:04
Speaker
um it it It changed my perspective on on multiplayer games. um I put thousands of hours in this game. i loved it. Fantastic. Fantastic game. Great ah campaign too.
02:08:16
Speaker
um It changed everything. It changed everything.
02:08:22
Speaker
And I presume everybody played it. Yeah. I've only played the campaign. Never played the multiplayer. It's the game that made Call of Duty relevant and made it the monster that it is today. like The first three were great games, but COD 4 was a masterpiece. I think I had a number two on my list. I can't remember.
02:08:41
Speaker
Oh, number four. um But yeah, it was it's my favorite Call of Duty ever made. ah Every multiplayer map was awesome. The campaign was incredible. it's It has the greatest single player campaign start level of all time with all gillied up.
02:08:54
Speaker
yeah it's ah It's a perfect game. I i love COD 4.
02:08:59
Speaker
All right. Good stuff. Great pick. Great pick. um Moving on. My number 11 here. This is where we're going to have a little switcheroo. So my number 10 was... was XCOM UFO Defense.
02:09:12
Speaker
It has fallen to number 11. And the reason for that is because I played a game last year, last year or whenever it was, ah that was just absolutely incredible that I had not played before.
02:09:23
Speaker
it was a big oversight. My cat needs to shut up. I'm sorry. Shut up. ah That game is The Witcher 3. So The Witcher 3 is going to be slotting into my number six spot.
02:09:35
Speaker
So number six game of all time for me, The Witcher 3 is And that's the one I'm actually going to talk about now. um I'll keep it kind of brief here because I've talked about it on this podcast many a times. But this is one of the best role playing games ever created. It is a huge, beautiful world full of awesome things for you to do.
02:09:53
Speaker
The characters, Geralt of Rivia. Yennefer, Triss, all of these characters that you meet are just incredible. um The story is awesome. You get to make lots of choices.
02:10:04
Speaker
The DLC is freaking awesome too. um Like the the last DLC in particular, um which for some reason, the name is escaping me. Locke, can you help me out? Do you know what the DLC was? Blood and Wine.
02:10:15
Speaker
Blood and Wine. Yes. That was like a whole nother game ah in and of itself. Like 20, 30 hours of incredible story. um which really wraps up Geralt's story and and passes it along to Syria a little bit, which we're going to get with The Witcher 4, which I can't wait for as well.
02:10:29
Speaker
ah So The Witcher 3 is my number six game of all time, and that will move XCOM UFO Defense down to number 11. So there we go.
02:10:41
Speaker
all right. I don't think we have much too much to say about that. We've talked about it before.
