Introduction and Host Catch-Up

00:00:28
Speaker
And welcome everybody. This is games over plastic episode number 44. I am your host midnight back again finally after a very long break. um Shout out to my two amazing co-hosts for holding it down and ah keeping things moving very well. Some awesome episodes while I was gone.
00:00:48
Speaker
um Thank you guys. As always joined by the master of graphics Hodge. First of all, how you doing, sir? I'm good. of It's actually funny. like It's just two weeks since the last episode, but since our last episode, I haven't been home.
00:01:03
Speaker
so um like I got home yesterday, so I'm just happy to be home again. but obviously happy to have you back and happy to have the crew back together talk some more video games. It's going to be fun. Yeah, I'm sure you're thrilled to not be in the hotels all the time now.
00:01:19
Speaker
yeah Although you were shooting dice in the lobby, you know having fun. ah I won like 20 bucks. Nice. Good stuff, man. And then, of course, last but not least, the man, the myth, the legend, Sean Mason.
00:01:45
Speaker
Welcome. You've got mail. How are you today, sir? I'm doing great. You know, just hanging out in a different location, undisclosed. Still in the state of Massachusetts, though. I'm not traveling across the country like Hodge was, but I'm doing well. It's October. It's spooky month. I can't believe it's already October. Those were a month into the school year. And I'm like, whoa, this is crazy.
00:02:07
Speaker
Yeah. I got my spoopy shirt, one of my spoopy shirts on. was going to wear it next week, but we'll be wearing other stuff next week, so I couldn't. I, too, am wearing a spooky shirt here. ah I got the Halloween Bucky shirt. You see, there's a web, and we got Bucky.
00:02:23
Speaker
And on the back, it says, Bucky's put a spell on me. That's what says. And it's really cool. and And not only that, Sean... but I've added to my collection.
00:02:35
Speaker
We have the Halloween witch Bucky here. Look at this. Oh, there's a new one. um Oh yeah. You didn't know about the witch Bucky. I have one where he's holding a pumpkin. Look out, he's so great.
00:02:47
Speaker
This is like a Codename Kids Next Door, Rainbow Monkeys over here. Shout out to all those who know what that is. Sean, you're just a hater, man. You just need to go to Bucky's. Fun fact, though. My dad. Fun fact.
00:02:59
Speaker
Ready? I have a student. I was meant to tell you this, but I haven't seen you since really school started. I have a student who has who brings in like a water bottle every day. It's a Bucky's on the water bottle.
00:03:11
Speaker
A-plus student. Nice. um See, because this is Bucky I got for Halloween. He's holding a pumpkin. I can't believe you are i can't believe you got a Conker. Conker Flushy.
00:03:22
Speaker
Yeah, Conker's bad fur day. Flushy, yeah. It's crazy. I'm going to have to text my brothers to get me the witch one so I can have both. I have one more plushie that I got here. I got a Shadowheart plushie from Baldur's Gate 3.
00:03:37
Speaker
Look at this. That's pretty cool, huh? It's the guy who makes fun of me for liking anime. Yeah. Hey, everybody loves Shadowheart. Just putting that out there. Have I made you liking anime? I don't think I've made fun of anime.
00:03:51
Speaker
Just all the wee games. Yeah, isn't the actress for Shadowheart, isn't she Miel in Claire? She is. She is Miel, yeah. She's a great voice of actress, Jennifer English. um Yeah, it's funny. You know, my dad, I took my dad to Bucky's one time, instantly hooked. He now has his own collection of like four or five different Bucky's. He's got like his own altar.
00:04:12
Speaker
um He loves the taffy, the saltwater taffy that they have there. um And he turned me on to those Southwest chicken burritos that they have, which are delicious, man. Those are like better than Chipotle. Next time you're at Bucky's, get the Southwest chicken burrito. It's big. It's like eight bucks. It's really good.
00:04:28
Speaker
Yeah, I got their fajita burrito and that one was really good. So I'm sure that'd be awesome. that Sounds good. Yeah. The only people hate on Bucky's have never been there. That place is heaven. I love it. Exactly. Sean.
00:04:40
Speaker

Podcast Availability and Listener Engagement

00:05:33
Speaker
um If you have write-ins for the show, we don't have a write-in today. We need write-ins, guys. So if you have one, just go on the YouTube comments and leave a comment with a question.
00:05:41
Speaker
You also can DM Sean directly on various platforms where you see him if you have write-ins. But the YouTube comments also works. We'll see him there. um So give us write-ins and we'll use them on a future episode. We stockpile the write-ins.
00:05:55
Speaker
So we may not use your question next week, but in two or three weeks, you never know, you might pop up. Sean, ah did you, i don't, you probably don't watch the episodes, obviously. I don't know why you would, but one of the, you so you know how it's cutting out like all the time, the last episode?
00:06:10
Speaker
Oh, you're muted. You're muted. ah You know, I did. i did. Oh, you did? Did you like my cut in of the girl from Rock Heart shaking the camera for one of the cuts? love that. and you know what?
00:06:23
Speaker
After you did it, I'm like, dang, I should have thought that Hodge was going to do that. But it brought back instant memories.
00:06:33
Speaker
Yeah, I actually that's like the one thing I like about when we have cuts is now I've just started doing these dumb little edits like during the cuts. And I like I like I've always loved making stupid little jokes like that. Like so I took an animation class, little side tangent really quick, an animation class back in college. And what we're supposed to do is basically animate an interaction from a movie. And that's all it was just to kind of learn how to do dialogue, like to sink the mouths and stuff.
00:06:59
Speaker
And I did it where I did the ending of the third Indiana Jones movie where he's like, Junior, we named the dog or the dog's name was Indiana. Like that little line at the end of the movie. And in the clip, I animated that the horses were blinking and they had like these really big cartoon eyes and they're blinking. And the teacher's like,
00:07:16
Speaker
I love that you animate like these little things no one thinks of. And so I've always loved editing and adding in just these dumb little jokes that only like certain people will notice because it's just, I love little Easter eggs like that. So I I've enjoyed editing those episodes and, but yeah, it's a lot of All right. So bottom line means that you're going to start cutting out more on purpose.
00:07:38
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I'm purposely cutting on my internet so I can add in stupid little little cuts. yeah There you go. ah One of my favorite ones from a while back, it wasn't last episode, was when Sean had some technical glitch.
00:07:53
Speaker
You put the ah the Christmas scene with the kid opening the Nintendo 64 over it, which which is fitting because we know how much Sean loves the Nintendo 64. Oh yeah, my favorite level i was my favorite console of all time.
00:08:06
Speaker
i was really I was really close to ah when another one happened. I was really close to doing the kid who's like, Blastoise! When he opens up the Pokemon. I was like, because that's also Sean. But I wanted to spread the love with making fun of people. So I did the GingerSat Souls kid and said that was me.
00:08:21
Speaker
Oh. Speaking of crazy. Next time you're up midnight. Can you imagine if the smoke detector goes off in this place? wellre That would be funny. That'd be hilarious. Then we would know it was your hair. That would be so funny.
00:08:38
Speaker
That would be hilarious. um Did you use the same audio? I didn't listen to the audio version. I wonder if that'd be kind of jarring for the audio. Just random noises like blast noise. Yeah.
00:08:49
Speaker
out of nowhere. Oh, it always has that little cut noise. I learned how to like, I kind of looked up a little tutorial on how to make it look like you're changing a channel. And so that's what I did. The, so it has that little, when it cuts to something new. So it's just that kind of signifier that it's cutting to something else and then it cuts back. So that's how I do it. Cause obviously yeah I don't want to just randomly so start screaming into the camera. Like what is happening?
00:09:13
Speaker
Be real jarring, like on your commute. Yeah, exactly. All right. Good stuff. ah Really quick here, Hodge, going to put you on the spot and I'm sorry for doing this, but you know, it is spoopy season and you are the king of spoopy, right?
00:09:25
Speaker
um Can you give me one or two horror movie recommendations? Can you think of anything? Because I want to watch a horror movie or two. Do you want a classic or like new? One of each. One of each.
00:09:36
Speaker
ah One of each. For me and the audience, give us some recommendations. The original Halloween, it's a classic. It's one of the greatest horror movies ever made. so It birthed the slasher genre.
00:09:47
Speaker
um if it When it comes to newer ones, It Follows is pretty creepy. um Long Legs, I mean Weapons, it just came out this year. is not I think it's on digital now, but it's for rent only, I think.
00:10:01
Speaker
I have a way to get Actually, it might be on HBO Max now. I could be wrong. But yeah, Weapons is great. Halloween. the i i look it's It's a hokey one, but I love Freddy vs. Jason. it's It's so dumb. Sean, do you have any?
00:10:18
Speaker
What's your favorite? My favorite? Nightmare on Elm Street. i The original? The first one? I mean, I like most of them. It's funny. I've actually... i like Nightmare on Elm Street. It's funny. I saw...
00:10:30
Speaker
Freddy vs. Jason before I ever saw a Halloween movie, which is funny. Not Halloween. Friday the 13th. Friday the 13th. Yeah, before I ever saw Friday the 13th, which is kind of funny. Wow.
00:10:40
Speaker
Yeah, don't don't walk don't watch any of the reboot ones. They're all terrible. The reboot of Friday the 13th is horrible. The reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street is horrible. I didn't mind the 2009 one.
00:10:53
Speaker
I didn't until the whole like pedophile thing at the end. I was like, that's kind of weird. yeah that Other than that, because like the guy who plays Freddy in that movie is awesome. He's so good. as Like he's so creepy as it like it's it's an amazing rendition of Freddy. It's just the plot's not very good of that one. It's I like the OG one definitely better.
00:11:14
Speaker
Did they turn Freddy into a PDF or what? Yeah. I didn't know that. Wow. So it turned. Yeah. So I can't remember why they kill him in the first one in the original. i don't know if it's implied or not that that's what it is. But in this other one, it's very explicit that like he would bring them to a back room and take photos of them and stuff. And so that's it's son but my my favorite interpretation of Nightmare on Elm Street is the Simpsons Trios of Horror.
00:11:39
Speaker
Oh, it's one of the best. Yeah, I watched it the other day. It's so good. Yeah, it pretty good. Yeah, I've been watching the Trials of Horrors also. One of the greatest lines in Simpsons history is we were on the 13th day of the 13th hour or the 13th month. It's lousy smart weather.
00:11:54
Speaker
You see, I don't like that whole PDF thing because it kind of changes the whole aspect of Freddy as a villain, and because in the original with Freddy, he has somewhat of a victimhood to it because like, yeah, he was kind of a bad guy, but they also did him wrong. Like they straight up killed him.
00:12:07
Speaker
ah So like when he's getting revenge, you somewhat empathize with him. Like, oh, well, maybe they deserve it a little bit. ah But if he's a PDF, then then he deserved to die. And that kind of ruins that aspect. But anyway, ah last year, i remember I did watch Freddy, the Dreamwalker or whatever, where ah you know where the people like turn into like wizards and stuff in the dream to fight him uh that one it's really campy but it was cool i like that yeah yeah then obviously like the shining is a classic it's one of the greatest movies ever made actually it's it's incredible like classic ones like that i mean i have a i can send you literally my letterboxd list of all my horror movies that i love yes put it put it in our ah private chat like that way i won't forget um but let's keep it moving shall we
00:12:50
Speaker
I don't want to get too much of on a sidebar, but there you go audience. If you need some horror movies, check those out.

Nostalgic Gaming - Rocket Power Beach Bandits

00:12:55
Speaker
I'm going to check out several of those myself. So. um All right, let's go ahead and get into what we are playing, shall we?
00:13:01
Speaker
um Sean, you want to go ahead and start us off, sir? Of course I will. And we're going start with a game that I recommended last week because you know why? Because we just started talking about it and it was like a banger. And I'm like, you know what? I'm going to replay And that is Rocket Power Beach Bandits, baby.
00:13:17
Speaker
So um I booted out the old. It's a game. yeah Oh, yeah, this is definitely a Sean game. I booted out the old PS2. Cranked out that copy of Rocket Power Beach Bandits, which was among one of the first PS2 games I bought with my own money for my birthday. I remember getting it.
00:13:35
Speaker
Oh, and this game totally holds up. Definitely holds up to exactly what I remember. It being you know smooth controls, awesome platforming, what a plot, voice acting on par.
00:13:48
Speaker
No, this game is such a 2002 tie-in game. tie in game It is super fun though. Like I still like remember playing it. I spent an absurd amount of hours um this past like two weeks just playing the like Tony Hawk mode where it's like you're just like skating and getting points and stuff.
00:14:06
Speaker
But it's like so it's like a vanilla Tony Hawk. Like you you only have a certain like there's only like five tricks you can do. um But it's cool because not only can you do a skateboard, but you can use a scooter and you can do rollerblades.
00:14:20
Speaker
So that's pretty cool. I'm surprised they don't have surfing. No, they don't. There is a surfing part in the game, but it's not like a mini game. It's like one of the main missions. The game's pretty cool though, because it is like pseudo open world. So it's like, oh, you go to this area to start your, it's kind of like Simpsons Hit and Run where like they have the mission on the map. And it's so you go to it and um it starts the mission.
00:14:42
Speaker
oh I thought it was awesome. I forgot how crazy the plot is, how like this guy comes and he's buying like ocean shores. And the only reason why they're mad that he's buying ocean shores is because he's going to destroy the shore shack.
00:14:56
Speaker
shore sha The place that Uncle Tito works at. um even though it's hilarious because in reality that he would buy it out for millions of yeah i know right yeah can work ever again exactly um no but it's super cool uh the weirdest part is there's like robots running around ocean shores and you you're fighting them with hockey pucks um that's pretty cool and like you you hit them with such a kid's game you can hit them with your hockey stick hockey pucks uh like i said the platforming is atrocious though like it's so bad the um
00:15:27
Speaker
like The landing zones when you're jumping is so, so bad. And I'm shocked because it's like You think, oh yeah, PS1 probably had bad landings. PS2, oh my god. It's bad. ah Load times are really long. like Really, really long. And I'm sitting there, I'm like, alright, what am I going do now? Alright, two minutes go by. all Alright, finally, I'm at the i' on the boardwalk. Oh wait, no, it wasn't supposed to be here. I'm going to load again.
00:15:49
Speaker
um but it's fun because you can be during the main story you can be auto twister um squid aka sam well sam aka squid and reggie but then in like the competitive tony hawk mode you can be those four plus you can be the kid with a mask i always forget his name you can be lars who's twister's brother who always like messes the kids and you can unlock tony hawk as playable character because fun fact tony hawk was in a rocket power episode uh voicing himself and he is a playable character yeah um yeah super fun um great game let's get a remake yeah get a remake or a sequel rock power beach bandits 2 baby um speaking nickeloneon though i do want to get to that um nickeloneon dungeons game that just came out it's like the it's like the um
00:16:39
Speaker
Diablo style Nickelodeon game that just came out. i actually, I bought it, but I haven't played it yet. I'm a little busy. so Oh, does it not have like horrific ratings? Oh, I don't care. You know, don't care. Oh, good I was just curious. I didn't know what it was. i think it got like a 71. I don't know. Something like that. i don't really care. Oh, that's not bad.
00:16:57
Speaker
I'll play Nickelodeon. I'm to play, dude. That's fair. Yeah. yes Yes. So you are. Let's get that Nick. Let's get that Nick tunes basketball back. Like we talked about last week. Let's get that roster back, you know, all grown up Tommy pickles in there. Yeah.
00:17:12
Speaker
Oh, I will say, ah speaking of comment like people writing in, I saw Broderick commented on last week's episode, like, I love Sean's list because it's always games that, like, four people have played. yeah yeah It's always the most obscure, like, Nickelodeon show from 2001. So i looked up Rocket Power Beach like, sales-wise.
00:17:34
Speaker
For a tie-in game, this game did not sell well. It sold less than like 500,000 copies for a movie tie-in, for a TV show tie-in game. Nickelodeon, you'd think that's like a million copies right there. Come on. 500,000 sounds like a lot to me. I would have guessed like 50,000. For tie-in game, no. Back then, no.
00:17:53
Speaker
I think that didn't games not sell as much then as they do now because there was a smaller ecosystem, I guess.

Exploring Trails in the Sky

00:18:00
Speaker
Go play Rocket Power Beach Bandits, you Rock-A-Power fiends. Woo-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee-wee!
00:18:06
Speaker
All right, love it, man. I'm going to play it after we get off. Yeah, of course you are. I'm sure you'll know all the references. yeah i've I've never seen Rocket Power Beach Bandits at all, so I have no train of reference at all. He Beach Bandits the cartoon.
00:18:22
Speaker
i don't need I don't know if it's a show or a movie. It's called Rocket Power, and the game is Rocket Power Beach Bandits. Okay, gotcha. It's a show? Yeah, it's on Nickelodeon. It was like crime for me.
00:18:35
Speaker
All right, man. All right. Well, next up, we're going to talk about Trails in the Sky. Woo! One of my beloved games. With diamonds. Yeah. um Oh, wait, that was Lucy.
00:18:49
Speaker
um trails in the sky is fantastic i did beat it um i played through it on switch because i sort of wanted to play it uh awesome game uh totally lives up like i said last week makes i originally came in thinking oh this game doesn't need a remake and i played it and was like it everything the remake does i mean the original doesn't makes it better um Super awesome cast, super awesome characters. I think they did a tremendous job with the voice. i They changed some of the voice actors up in the US version compared to like some of their previous iterations. So that was pretty cool.
00:19:21
Speaker
um Like the combat, love the story. Story is very much like an exact replica of the original game. They don't really change much, which is good. ah Some of the dialogue changes a little bit. They offer a little bit more. There's a couple more side quests as well. They add in a couple things.
00:19:37
Speaker
But I like everything they did with it. But I'm more excited to hear what Midnight has to think because he played the demo. And we have to give him props. 91. It's pretty high up there. yeah. That's right.
00:19:50
Speaker
i think that's I think that might actually be my highest rated game, honestly. ah So maybe it wasn't so much of a reach, although it was still a reach because I could have got it later. But... It performed well, at least for my draft pick.
00:20:01
Speaker
um But yeah, Sean, I did just for you, sir. I played Trails in the Sky, first chapter, the demo, which is about like a four hour demo, four to five hour demo or something, depending on how slow you take it. And I took it kind of slow. I did all the side quests and I did it all.
00:20:16
Speaker
um And it was pretty, pretty decent. It was pretty good. um i did like, you know, I like the settings and the character was decent. The combat was OK. I wasn't wowed by the combat, but it probably evolves and gets deeper and better as you go. know It gets a lot deeper as you go. They always every Trails game starts out and it's like very cookie cutter.
00:20:35
Speaker
And then the further in you get, it gets way more advanced. So you like to sell, though?
00:20:41
Speaker
I hate her voice actress i knew in English. i She's just like, she's way overacting in my opinion. and She's like trying to put on like ah this bubbly voice and it's kind of cringed to That's her character though. like that That is her character.
00:20:55
Speaker
It's fair enough. It's fair enough. I'd probably get used to it the more I played. um But yeah, I like the setting. The characters were decent. um The combat was okay. um I enjoyed it a fair bit. I did like the boss fight at the end of the demo, um which i you know I won't spoil anything, but where the ship comes, that's all I'll say.
00:21:12
Speaker
um That was a pretty cool boss fight. That was fun. I liked that. um And then it kind of ends on like kind of a cliffhanger, but not like the best cliffhanger because it's obvious that there's no serious danger. But still, I thought it was cool. I did enjoy it.
00:21:25
Speaker
um It wasn't good enough to hook me to where I immediately was like, I'm going to buy this and play it right now. I actually started playing like Rune Factory, which I also dropped as well because Ghost came out.
00:21:36
Speaker
Yeah, Rune Factory was okay. um Small side tangent there. i cannot Speaking of cannot stand, oh my god, the male English voice actor for Rune Factory was so bad. Yeah.
00:21:49
Speaker
I'm not going to say anything else. I don't want to be offensive. But ah yeah, anyways, back to Trails. Sean, I am going to play this game. It was good enough that I do want to play it. um So I'm going to pick it up and actually play the full game. I thought it was pretty good.
00:22:03
Speaker
um It ended well. um I know it's going to expand and get way better too. um Are there going be more characters in the party or is it just due to Nostelle? You don't know his name? It's Joshua. Joshua. I forgot his name. will not reveal anymore.
00:22:19
Speaker
Yeah, I forgot his name already. But in my defense, I played ah a bunch of Rune Factory and a bunch of ghosts since then. So i kind of got washed out a little bit. ah He was cool, though. i like Joshua. He's a good character. so um Kind of stoic.
00:22:31
Speaker
Yeah. Well, Estelle, she's cool. um But yeah, so I am going to play it maybe after Ghost. We'll see. I might put a spooky game in there. I might do Ghost and then a spooky game and then Trails.
00:22:42
Speaker
um But yeah, I liked it. Back to you, Sean. Yeah, i know. like Like you said, yeah, it's a great game. Honestly, it's ah it's the it's the part you should start at

Game Reviews - Dead Island 2 & More

00:22:50
Speaker
in the series. Like I mentioned during last week's episode when called out Meatball.
00:22:55

I don't know. Cold Steel. Cold Steel might be a good spot, I heard. No, not at all. But yeah, I highly encourage people to pick up this game. If you're interested in the Trail series, this is where to go. And they announced the sequel is getting remade, and it should be out next year. So...
00:23:08
Speaker
It's sweet. That's good. That's good. yeah That's good because I've heard that the ending of this first game is going to make you really want to play the second Well, they were originally supposed to make the the first and second chapter supposed to be one game originally.
00:23:21
Speaker
But then they were making it so big that we need to split this up. Yeah. Yeah. It makes sense because, I mean, it's a big game, right? I was looking up. Isn't it like 60 to 80 hours this game? Yeah, well, yeah, it is.
00:23:36
Speaker
and So it makes sense to split it. um All right, Sean, do you have any other thoughts on Trails? No, that's about it. Any other what we're playing thoughts or are you satiated? I'm good. I'm good.
00:23:50
Speaker
All right. ah Let's go and go to Hodge next, I guess. Yeah, let's go Hodge. What are you playing, sir? I was first, uh, before I left, I was playing a little more dead Island too. I'm really enjoying this game. I'm going to hopefully get into play co-op with my brothers or some friends or something at some point. Cause thought going around slashing zombies would be a lot of fun with other people.
00:24:12
Speaker
But, uh, I was actually, I'm actually surprised how much I'm liking it because, I mean, I'm, I've always said I'm like an apologist for the first one. I love the first dead Island game. i love,
00:24:24
Speaker
it was so much fun i enjoyed every moment of it so uh when they announced it and this one was going like to that cringe zoomer humor i was like i don't know if i'll like this one but and the characters there are some characters like i talked about last week how there's like you have to kill zombies so this girl can get likes on youtube or whatever and i'm just like oh my god this is so stupid but ah But other than but it's obviously it's it's tongue in cheek of making fun of that type of person because it's set in L.A. So it's a bunch of, you know, uptight Hollywood people who don't know how to survive being like, oh, what is going on? Protect me kind of thing. So it's a lot of fun for that. But some of the characters are annoying, but it's a really fun game. So I'm just really enjoying it. i don't have much to add because I haven't played it in over almost two weeks now. So I'm but I'm just looking forward to getting back to it.
00:25:13
Speaker
But don't have anything else really to add to that. Midnight, did you ever play Dead Island 2 or the first one? Or these not your games? and Yeah, I'm not a massive zombie guy. I haven't played any of the Dead Islands.
00:25:25
Speaker
It's funny, when you first mentioned it, for some reason, I was thinking you were talking about Dying Light. I always get those two mixed up. And I was like, yeah, Dying Light. Yeah, when you said, I was like, oh, Dying Light 2, they just dropped like a big update, right?
00:25:36
Speaker
ah But you're talking about Dead Island 2. Yeah, Dead Island 2. Dead Island 2 honestly looks more fun. Yeah, I was never into Dying Light 2. I didn't like the parkour stuff. It just it didn't fit for me. I don't know. I wasn't big on it, but I don't really have much else to add to that. But ah before I left, i they they came out with a DK Bonanza demo on the Switch. So I played it, and it's a blast. like it ah's I'm not going to say it's game of the year. i mean, i obviously only played a 30-minute demo. They actually just play until 30 minutes hits. like There's no...
00:26:11
Speaker
limit on what you can do really so just played for 30 minutes and it was a lot of fun like the ability just to break through literally anything is so much fun like i'm like so now i can definitely see because i loved mario odyssey so seeing that that team made this game i can totally feel it because it plays so fun i'm just not going to play it now because i have so many other things i want to play but i will definitely be buying dk bonanza at some point it is so much fun yeah don't uh You know, you want my thoughts and Mr. James Soler. Go watch the spoiler cast we did because that game is an absolute banger. Hodge, you're going to love it.
00:26:50
Speaker
I know. Oh, yeah. Go ahead. I was just saying i'm I know I'm going to love it just from the demo that I played. Yeah, I just looked to confirm what I thought was true is true. And Sean, yeah, no surprise that this game is awesome. It's developed by Nintendo EPD, one of the best studios of all time. We talked about that recently. We both love them. They're amazing.
00:27:09
Speaker
ah So no shock that Bonanza would be great. They don't miss. Yeah, that's definitely one of the top like S tier studios in the world. Yeah, i was when I was gone for these two weeks, obviously i didn't want to like fly and have to you know pack up a PlayStation or Xbox or whatever. so i just And I was going to try the portal, but I knew, especially thankfully I didn't because when I got to my hotel, the internet was horrible.
00:27:31
Speaker
So I didn't bring my portal for any PlayStation games. So I was just playing my Switch the time. So I was just scrolling through trying to find games. I was debating getting the like the Kirby Forgotten Land update and all that stuff. I i wasn't sure, but I ended up landing on...
00:27:45
Speaker
A while ago, I bought um the Arceus Pokemon Legends game because everyone keeps telling me this is the Pokemon game. that's It redefined the genre. it's the It's the best Pokemon game ever made.
00:27:59
Speaker
i fucking hate this game. i I played it for like three or four hours and I dropped it. I'm like, I... I guess Pokemon's just not for me anymore. I can't play this game. I don't think it's good. It runs like crap.
00:28:12
Speaker
The graphics are horrendous. You go out into these amazing open worlds and there's three Pokemon walking around in circles and you just throw a Pokeball at them and you either catch it or it gets angry and then you battle it.
00:28:24
Speaker
And the battle system is that you move around, but you're still controlling your Pokemon to do attacks. So you're running around just, I guess, trying not to get attacked by the wild Pokemon. And I'm just like...
00:28:36
Speaker
They act like they updated this fighting, you know, what it like like I would love to see it's just straight up like a Super Smash Brothers type game where when you throw out a Pokemon, you just start controlling that Pokemon and fight with it. Like that would be sweet.
00:28:51
Speaker
But that's not what you do. It's still the same thing of it's a turn-based RPG basically where you pick item or attack or run or whatever. and But your character, you move around your character while you're doing it. And it's just...
00:29:02
Speaker
i It's not fun. Obviously, i you know I dropped it early, so obviously I'm sure, oh you can change this, you can change that, and there's more to the... Like, I saw a video, you can ride Pokemon later stuff. I'm like, cool, but...
00:29:15
Speaker
I don't think this game is good. Like, I don't understand the hype for Pokemon games. I just, they're all bad. Like, i I can't play them anymore. I don't like them. And so I think I just, I think I've just outgrown or out I just don't like them anymore. So it sucks because, like i said, Yellow and Silver are two of my favorite games of all time. But this game, I just...
00:29:38
Speaker
I couldn't stand it. You say they're all bad, but you're ignoring generation three through five, which is like the peak of it. And you should just play heart, gold and soul silver, which is a remake of silver, which you will like after that, they start going downhill, obviously. And I'm actually, I'm not as harsh on legends as our, um, RCS is you, but I do agree with you. I don't think it's like the creme de la croix of Pokemon over there. I think they do do a lot wrong. Yeah. Um, and like the riding Pokemon, they made such a big deal out of that. You could do that in, um,
00:30:07
Speaker
um Scarlet Violet and you could do it in um You could do it back in yellow when you wanted to transport a bird flew you to the new location so it's not like I don't i don't think it's like the and you can do it in Sun and Moon as well and X and Y i don't think it's like like I said i like it I'm not as harsh on it as you but I totally agree it's it's it's I think it's very very overrated yeah like which fits for our topic for today even though it's not on my list but yeah I just don't Oh, and I didn't rate over an 85. I don't think so. No, I think it was like an 83. Oh, I expected this game to have like a 90 because everyone was hyping it so much. But yeah, I just I didn't like this game. So so I dropped it. I'm going to sell it. Thankfully, i bought the physical copy. So I'm going to sell back to GameStop for $45 since these games never decrease in value.
00:31:00
Speaker
um have Did you play ah Scarlet and Violet? Because isn't that more traditional? Yeah, it is. Yeah, apparently... Well, the funny thing is it was it played like crap on the Switch when it came out.
00:31:12
Speaker
It has a free update now. Yeah, and apparently the Switch 2 on... But apparently it didn't update it that great. ah Apparently it's not that great of an update for it, but... I don't know. ah That was kind of a surprising, though, that I booted up Arceus and it doesn't have an update. So it was playing in 30 FPS. And it so it was chugging along.
00:31:32
Speaker
You should try Scarlet and Violet. and I think the update's bigger than you're giving it credit for. I watched a video comparing them side by side, and it was a pretty big. Or you should just go back and it is sixty four should just go back and play, you know, generation three four or five games Yeah, do that.
00:31:47
Speaker
Which ones are available on 3DS? Because I can play those ones. I mean, yeah. ah so Well, only Gen X and Y. oh you can play Gen 4 and 5 on 3DS. Hmm.
00:31:59
Speaker
You can get hot gold on there. SoulSilver. Well, that's because that's why I was hoping... It was like a year ago or whatever when there were all these rumors that they were going to come out with like a collection of all the old games. That's not happening. Yeah, it's never going happen because Nintendo... Yeah.
00:32:14
Speaker
But that's what I was hoping for because I would like to play those. But I played... um Was it Pearl and Diamond, the remake one? Yeah, the remake. The originals are... And it was fine. They should have remade Platinum. Platinum is a lot better than Diamond and Pearl. They do a lot of better. that yeah hoping I dropped it eventually because I wasn't... The Pokedex and Platinum is so much better than the Pokedex and Pearl and Diamond.
00:32:35
Speaker
Like, they expanded a lot more. I would just, yeah, I don't know. It's just, I'm tired of people acting like these, these slight updates are like revolutionary for Pokemon when it's like, cool, these new additions, you're catching up to about three consoles old. Like you're not, it's nothing about any of these Pokemon games is revolutionary. Like they're updating from their old, you know, decades old, uh,
00:33:02
Speaker
uh like gameplay but it's still outdated and bad like i'm i don't know i just don't like these games i guess i'm just done with pokemon i can't sounds like madden and nba 2k fans well yeah those those i mean i haven't played madden since i think megatron was on the cover so it was like 13 12 on the cover
00:33:24
Speaker
Megatron, the of Calvin Johnson, see her for the line for anyone who doesn't know, I'm sure yet. I figured you would know, so that's why I was confused for a second. But but I think that's the last Madden I bought. And then i haven't bought NCAA since 2009.
00:33:38
Speaker
But, yeah, and like Chell, I haven't bought since 2013. thirteen So i've I've given up on sports games because, yeah, they don't get any better. But... Yeah, I don't know. I just, I was so looking forward to this because everyone hyped it up.
00:33:49
Speaker
And so I really went in with an open mind of being like, all right, this is going to be the revolutionary Pokemon game that changed this, the whole formula and

Impressions on Pikmin 3 and Hades 2

00:33:58
Speaker
everything. And it didn't, it's just, I don't think it's that good. So whatever. So I'm just kind of down with Pokemon until maybe they like, cause I'm not hyped at all for ZA. I don't think it looks good at all, even though I know I'm in the minority of that one, but yeah.
00:34:13
Speaker
I don't like that it takes place in one city. i think that sounds kind of... Yeah, I was i watched Shillup's preview for it, and that's what he was saying. Because Arceus, at least you go around all these different biomes. You can go up to the mountains and the fields and everything like has everything. But if you're just stuck in a city, it's going to get pretty boring pretty quick. But ah but yeah, I don't know. i feel like I feel like the standard for Pokemon, the bar is way lower than it is for other genre or other games but or other series, but...
00:34:41
Speaker
I don't know. I just I don't like this game, so I'm going to sell it and not play it anymore. But another game I hopped into is Pikmin 3. I think it's deluxe is what the Switch version is called.
00:34:55
Speaker
Um, and at first I was kind of bummed. I was like, oh, I'm not a fan of this. But as I kept playing, I got used to the controls and stuff. And i actually really enjoyed this game. It was, it's not perfect by any mean. The final level, I was going insane trying to figure out why I couldn't finish finish it, but I eventually got it. It's not too bad, but I will say,
00:35:17
Speaker
This might be controversial. I don't know. i think Tinykin is leagues ahead of these games. or I haven't played four, obviously, but I love Tinykin. I loved every moment of that game, whereas this game, I was like, it's pretty good at times, and then sometimes it was a lot of fun. like you know It's a little puzzler of which Pikmin do I need to put my crew to go you know get this and that and the other things. so Uh, I had, i had a lot of fun with it and it's a very short game.
00:35:45
Speaker
Honestly, I don't even know. It's probably beat it in six hours. Maybe it's a very, very, very short game, which I was not expecting, but I was actually kind of happy. Cause I did feel it started dragging a little bit where I'm like, how many days am I going to to, cause you, you, I'm usually not a big fan of the timer, but since it's a Nintendo game, it's not that brutal of a timer. Like you can survive just fine when it hits. So it's really not that difficult, but yeah,
00:36:10
Speaker
uh i yeah i enjoyed it i might pick because isn't there four wasn't that the actual like switch game yeah pikmin four came out on switch um the reason why pikmin games are so short they're designed to be replayed um because you can experience different things depending on what you do during the day um i know you compared to tiny kin and i know tiny king tiny king tiny kin gets inspiration from pikmin but i do say they're fundamentally fundamentally very different games and yeah um But you can see the inspiration. I enjoy Pikmin, the Pikmin series. I've not played four. I played one through three.
00:36:45
Speaker
um But to me, I think each one gets progressive, has gotten progressively worse for me. Like I enjoyed Pikmin 1 the best. And it's funny because Pikmin 2, 3 are usually considered like the peak of the series.
00:36:57
Speaker
But I really liked Pikmin 1. And that was mainly because um they they had the timer going and you had to beat it within a certain amount of days or you were like, you lose.
00:37:09
Speaker
I really like that. Give me that Majora's Mask feeling. Yeah, yeah. Uh... which I, which is why I'm not a huge fan of George's mask, but, ah but yeah, I, it's, I do want to, I do want to play four eventually, but that that was the worst thing though, is i was like, this is, was three originally a Wii U game that they brought to switch? No, was originally, yes, it was originally, I can't remember it was Wii game and then it got ported. I think it was Wii and then it got ported to Wii U or it was Wii U and it got ported the switch. I don't know if it got ported twice or just ported once.
00:37:44
Speaker
I can't remember. You know what? Actually, no, it they made such a big deal about the um tablet, the Fisher-Price toy. Okay. Because, yeah, it must have been, like i don't know if it's because of the tablet or whatever, but some of the controls in it were pretty bad. Like, I'd be trying to lock on something to throw some Pikmin and lock on something completely different. and I'm sitting there like, no, I want to throw, it especially when you're fighting a Bosch, like, no, I want to throw my Pikmin at that.
00:38:07
Speaker
And they're going over here instead. And the controls just weren't great. But overall, I enjoyed it. It was kind of one of those, like I said, where when it was over, I was like, thank God it's over. I don't really want to keep playing this. So I was OK with that. But obviously, the plot is, you know, it's nonsensical. You're just these little people trying to find each other. You crash on a planet and you're trying to find each other. And it's whatever. But yeah, overall, I enjoyed it. But yeah, Tinykin is like I...
00:38:35
Speaker
it's one of like my most beloved games that I've played in recent years. Whereas Pikmin, it's like, I'm going to probably forget. I played this in a few years. Like it's, it it was fine. But i like i said, I had my switch and I needed something to play. So it was a good for, I bought it with Arceus actually when I was at GameStop a little while back. Cause they had a and then something else. Cause they had to buy two, get one free or something, use game thing. So yeah,
00:38:59
Speaker
I bought it and enjoyed it, but I'm done with it. I'm going sell it back and move on. But finally, I couldn't wait. I was going to wait for it to come to PlayStation, but I was weak and I wanted to play it. I've been playing Hades 2.
00:39:14
Speaker
um i Love this game. it would It is much harder than the first one, actually. The first game, I cleared it my first time in probably 16 or something runs. It took me a while.
00:39:30
Speaker
This one, I think, was 20-something, if not 30, that it took me to clear for the first time. It is very difficult. and You move much slower than in the first one.
00:39:41
Speaker
You were able to dodge attacks very easily in the first one, where this one, you have to... very carefully plot where you're going to kind of jump to. um So at first I wasn't loving it, but obviously with it being roguelike, you level up after each run and you can make yourself stronger and, you know, change your weapons and all that. So it's getting that point where I'm getting used to it and I'm clearing bosses easier and, you know, moving on and still getting stuck at some places. I've still only cleared it once.
00:40:13
Speaker
And I've done

Monthly Game Highlights

00:40:15
Speaker
30-something runs. i can't remember what it is exactly. Um, but I'm enjoying it. I'm excited to keep, you know, getting stronger and stronger. I will be playing it again when it comes to PS five. So I can actually just do the trophies because right now, obviously I'm playing it just to play it because Nintendo don't have trophies.
00:40:30
Speaker
Um, so I'll be doing it to get the plat when it comes to PlayStation, but I'm loving it. Uh, for those who don't know, you play as Haiti or, um, uh, Zagreus's sister in this one, but she was, she's much younger than him. So the, a lot of the people don't really know that she exists and you're trying to beat the ah Titan Kronos because he did some stuff and you're trying to get revenge. And yeah, it's a lot of fun. And there's, i will say I saw one review that I kind of agree with where it said it bloated a perfect formula.
00:41:04
Speaker
And I do feel that because there is a lot in this game to that you can do to upgrade or go different paths or do this, that, and the other thing. And, It's a little little overwhelming with how much crap you can do in this game. And so I do kind of miss the simplicity of the first one, but this game is still gorgeous. It plays really well. It's smooth.
00:41:25
Speaker
um The weapons, I don't like as much as the weapons from the last game, but there's other different things you can do. You can have hexes because you're a witch and you can do all these different little... attachments on your character that make you stronger and give you more abilities to get through the worlds and stuff. So I'm i'm enjoying it. But i as of right now, I do like the first one better.
00:41:47
Speaker
But I am looking forward to keep clearing this and beating this game because it is pretty sweet. And then, yeah, I will definitely be playing it on PS five. Cause I love that. This is like I said, with Hades one, it's one of those games where you can go and do a run or two and just drop out. So you can do, you know, 20 minutes of gameplay. And if you want, if you're in between, you know, if you just wanting to watch a movie and obviously it being switched, you can play it handheld while you're doing that and don't have to pay too much attention. So I'm enjoying it for that aspect as well. And so I'm looking forward to keep playing it, but yeah, that's all I've been playing is that and Hades two.
00:42:22
Speaker
All right. Excellent. Some good games there. Definitely. All right. Moving on to what I have been playing here. And this is ever since I've been gone. So this is like ah over a month of games here. So you would think there'd probably be a lot of games, but no, there's not because I played Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
00:42:41
Speaker
Shout out to Lock Mort, one of his favorite games of all time. ah Shout out to Henry, the main character. This game is awesome ah from War Horse Studios. It's a big game. I put in like 90 hours on this.
00:42:52
Speaker
um And then I also had my trip out to California, which was like a 10 day thing. So between this game and that trip, um Not a lot of games was played, but I did beat Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
00:43:03
Speaker
This game is phenomenal. ah This game is almost perfect. It's going to be in my top 10 to 20 games of all time for sure, no doubt. ah We'll update that the next time we revisit our top games. But yeah, this game was amazing.
00:43:15
Speaker
Graphically beautiful. The world is stunning. It's so immersive. There's so much stuff you could do. like You can blacksmith. You could do alchemy. And it's like you're really kind of doing it. Yeah. With the alchemy, you've got to boil the water or the wine, you've got to add the herbs, you've got to grind the herbs and add them. You've got to boil them for a certain amount of time, and you actually flip like an hourglass and watch it go down.
00:43:34
Speaker
So you know how long to boil it. um And if you do it right, you get stronger and more yield on the potions. um The blacksmith, if you do it right, um you get better weapons that do more damage.
00:43:46
Speaker
Dude, it's awesome. The combat in this game was super fun. um A bit intimidating at first because, you know, it's all about like the directional combat and you kind of got to counter them. But once you learn like how to counter them and how to do like the Master Strike and stuff like that and you get good and you actually skill up as you use it, similar to Skyrim, as you use the skills, they level up.
00:44:05
Speaker
um And it gets more powerful and you get perks and stuff. It becomes easier um towards the end of the game. You know, I was getting really good with the combat. I was able to pretty easily like dispatch like four or five, six, seven, eight guys at once.
00:44:17
Speaker
Pause on that one. But KCD2, this game is it's phenomenal. Like if I had to give it a rating on Midnight Critic, I mean, this is like 93 and 94. Like it was almost perfect.
00:44:28
Speaker
um The ending of the game was great. um They had a nice little epilogue where they kind of explained. I love epilogues when they give you close. I like closure. When games don't give me closure, it kind of annoys me a little bit. But this game, they give you pretty good closure.
00:44:41
Speaker
um There was only like one or two things that I kind of wanted to know what was going to happen, but maybe it would be DLC addressed. ah There is two DLCs out, which I did not play. I just played the base game.
00:44:51
Speaker
um I'm sure the DLCs are great. Maybe one day when all the DLCs are out, I'll go out and play it. But Overall, I think this game is phenomenal. ah If you are a fan of big RPGs, you know, like Skyrim and Witcher 3 and, you know, these big experiences, that I would definitely recommend this.
00:45:10
Speaker
Don't be too intimidated. It's not that difficult. um Especially if you want, you can play it on PC like I did. There are quality of life mods. um that you can get out there, um which I did take advantage of some of the mods. um I wasn't doing any like cheat mods. Like I didn't have like unlimited, i didn't get like any, I didn't get any money.
00:45:29
Speaker
All my money I earned myself. I didn't have like instant win combat. Like I was doing the real combat and winning myself. um But I had like some quality of life ones. Like I had ah like one where like the, the weight of some items was reduced a bit. So you weren't as encumbered.
00:45:43
Speaker
um I had the save everywhere perk, which is nice. so you can just save the game because otherwise you have to use like save your schnapps to save it. Like they restrict how much you can save it. I didn't like that. um But just like a couple of quality of life mods, you can do that if you want, if you're intimidated. I had one that made the lock picking.
00:45:58
Speaker
ah Like once you got your lock picking skilled up enough, you could just get a perk where you could instantly unlock everything. And I did that one because the lock picking is kind of a bitch. Like it's it's a tough mini game and I didn't enjoy it that much. So.
00:46:10
Speaker
But anyway, that was Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Awesome game. Really, really good. ah This is probably the best game that I've played all year, honestly. um It won't be my game of the year, though, because it didn't come out this year.
00:46:21
Speaker
ah But of the games that I've played so far, it's number number one. I thought it came out this year. Did it not? Oh, wait, it did come out this year. Wow, this year has been so long, and there's been so many games that I kind of thought it was last year. Okay, well, this is my game of the year for the year then, yeah so far. the games um yeah There you go. yeah Sean, I forgot that you even played it. It's so good.
00:46:45
Speaker
Did you beat it? Yeah, I did. I didn't do everything I wanted to do, though. like I wanted to do every like all of the side stuff. I wanted to do everything, and I just couldn't do it because it's so much. umll I'll go back to it. I will.
00:46:58
Speaker
After the next Rockstar game, of course. Maybe like me, once once it's fully complete with all the DLC, go back and do all the DLC. I might do that. Because there's two of them now. There's like the Forge one that they just did.
00:47:09
Speaker
And then there was one before, which I forget what it's called. But yeah. Anyway, awesome game. I'm really excited for what this studio cooks up next. War Horse Studio. I think they're really talented.
00:47:20
Speaker
um So we'll see what their next game is. um After that, I played the Trails demo, which we already talked about. So we won't get into that. But it was good and I liked it. um And then finally, ah little game just came out that you know that Midnight is a fan of, and that's Ghost of Yote.
00:47:37
Speaker
You guys know I love Ghost of Tsushima. It's one of my favorite games of all time. Sucker Punch, in my opinion, is the second best PlayStation studio that they own. Number one is Naughty Dog.
00:47:48
Speaker
I think we can all, it's hard to dispute Naughty Dog's number one, I think, no doubt. And then after that, for me personally, Sucker Punch is number two. Now, a lot of people would say Sony Santa Monica would be number two.
00:48:00
Speaker
And if you if that is your opinion, I won't really fight you about that. I think that's a fair opinion. They're also very good. But I think Sucker Punch, Sucker Punch at worst has to be number three. But for me, it's Media Molecule. Are they really in the top three or are you're trolling? love LittleBigPlanet. Yeah, Sean's big Dreams fan. Oh, yeah. love Dreams. No, LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 are awesome. But no, Media Molecule is I'm going to punt that. I'm going to punt that one.
00:48:27
Speaker
Yeah. ah But yeah, Sucker Punch for me, number two PlayStation Studio. ah For everyone else, maybe it's number three or four. But anyway, I love them. Ghost of Yote is incredible so far.
00:48:38
Speaker
I'm not that deep in it. I don't know. I'm like yeah five hours, five, six hours in or something. I'm not super deep into it, but I'm going to get into it a lot more soon. ah But this game is incredible. The opening is absolutely gorgeous and super cinematic and fun, as always.
00:48:53
Speaker
um I love Sucker Punch and their graphical use of color and the wind and everything. Of course, that's back in full effect. The music, the setting, like they've got like the Japanese like string instruments and stuff that's playing as you're riding.
00:49:06
Speaker
When you get on the horse, it's super cinematic. It goes letterbox and like there's no UI and you're just riding along the wind and stuff. um And it's just awesome. The combat is really fun. ah The combat is really good as well.
00:49:17
Speaker
um I'm just starting to ramp into it. I've got my second stance now, so now I have two stances I can switch between. You know, they're slowly building you up to it. um One thing I did notice, I think the combat might be a hair more difficult in this game than the last one because ah I'm noticing that a lot of the sword people don't do a glint when they attack you.
00:49:36
Speaker
In the first game, there was a little glint every time, which made it super easy to just parry everybody like... ah In this game, you kind of have to pay more attention to their actual movements, but it's still not really that hard at all. But yeah, it's awesome.
00:49:48
Speaker
I'll have more to say in the future. I'm gonna keep it short now because I'm only like five hours in. We don't need to go in super death, but Ghost of Yotei, awesome so far. And I like the character thus far, Atsu. ah She's pretty cool.
00:49:58
Speaker
And this is a more dark, adult, gritty story so far too. More Assassin's Creed coded. um I'm not going to spoil anything, but you know, it kind of has that feel. yeah. That's what I've been playing. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Trails Demo, and Ghost of Yote.
00:50:14
Speaker
Are either of you two going to play Ghost? Yeah, I'm going to. Hang on what it Sorry. Heck yeah, the dog's hype for Ghost. I will say your little spiel right there had me more hyped for this game than anything else that I've seen.
00:50:29
Speaker
Because, yeah like I've said, so I'm in this on the same page. Obviously, we've talked about this. I love Ghost of Tsushima. That game was such a surprise to me. i blew me away. It's one of my favorite PS4 games.
00:50:40
Speaker
ah Maybe... shit maybe second behind death stranding if i'm being honest it's it's so good and uh but when yotei was unveiled i just had i just didn't care like i don't know why i just was watching and i'm like none of this is doing anything for me i don't know i mean it's another revenge tale from a playstation studio like i'm just nothing about it really got me but i Also lock. I saw he tweeted about how beautiful it is. And that right there is making me want to play. Cause obviously I have the pro, so I really want to see it running on the pro. Uh, but,
00:51:17
Speaker
Yeah, i'll I'll probably, maybe by the end of the year, i'll I'll get to it. I kind of, I want to, but as of right now, it's not high on my priorities. ah But I do want to play it. Like, i've I'm not to the point where I'm like, I don't care about Ghost at all. Like, it's just, it didn't hype me at all. Like, I completely forgot i was even coming out, if I'm being honest. Like, it completely left my mind, so...
00:51:38
Speaker
There's for some reason it just didn't hype me at all. But now I'm kind of like I do want to get to it. I'm not not to try and like stay in the conversation of everyone. I'm part of not the FOMO part of it.
00:51:49
Speaker
It's more of I just really want to play it at some point and see how gorge it is gorgeous it is. But yeah, i don't know. It didn't hype me. But you talking about how much you're loving it. I'm like, maybe I should move up the priority list a little bit.
00:52:02
Speaker
But we'll see. I think you should. I think you'll like it a lot. Yeah, i'm sure I will. And of course they do have a, an easy mode. If you're worried about the combat. um I know you, I know you like the journalist mode. I do play.
00:52:15
Speaker
I play a journalism mode to get through games quicker, not to, not to play them easier. It's more just to get it through quicker. Cause less attack, less hits make them die quicker. So I can move on. But yeah, it's super artsy and cinematic and beautiful. So I know you would like that.
00:52:30
Speaker
There's also a whole bunch of modes in it. Like there's like this Miike mode or something. i I probably said that wrong. It's after some Japanese famous director where it like brings the camera in a little bit closer and it has more blood and mud and gore and stuff, which is like similar to his style. And then there's like different audio settings and then the Curacao or black and white modes. Like you can change a lot of stuff to tweak the look of it.
00:52:49
Speaker
Um, and like they really put in a ton of effort into the environment and the music and like the setting and the vibes are just really good. Um, the only thing I would say that is maybe not the best of all time is the faces and the character models.
00:53:01
Speaker
Um, that's one area where they don't super deliver on. Um, I think Assassin's Creed shadows, for example, had way better faces and character models. Um, but in ah everything else, the world and the setting and everything, they, they absolutely cooked. The graphics are gorgeous.
00:53:17
Speaker
Um, But yeah, so I'll leave it there. That's ah that's what I've been playing. um Does anyone else have any final thoughts on what they're playing before we move on? Are we good? No, I'm good. Yeah. No, I'm good.
00:53:29
Speaker
All right. This is where we would normally have a write-in, but as I mentioned earlier, we don't have a write-in, so leave us one, please. Please do that. Reminder. ah But let's

Overrated Games Discussion

00:53:37
Speaker
go and get into our main topic of discussion. And for today, we are going to be doing overrated games.
00:53:43
Speaker
So this doesn't mean that these games are bad. It just means that we don't think they're as good as the consensus is. Like the Metacritic Open Critic scores are like super glowing for these games. And we're like, eh, it's definitely not that good in my opinion.
00:53:57
Speaker
um So these are still good games. A lot of mine are anyway, I think, but they're just not nearly as good as the ratings. so that's what we're doing. We got four games each, 12 games total. No particular order, at least not for mine. These are just four games. I'm not going from like, oh, this one's the worst. I'm not doing that.
00:54:13
Speaker
um But yeah, let's go ahead and start it off with Hodge. You want to give us your number four or number one or whatever we want to do here? Yeah, the way I'm going to do it, you guys obviously can do it however you want. I'm going to do it the same way I did last time, where last time i did from highest rated or lowest rated to highest rated, I think, or vice versa. I don't remember which way, but I'm going to do what has the lowest on the Metacritic score to the highest. So like in that kind of way. So First one I'm going to go with is the PSP's game, God of War, Ghost of Sparta.
00:54:46
Speaker
It has 86 on Metacritic. It's not on OpenCritic. i This was one of the two PSP God of War games. And.
00:54:56
Speaker
I really liked chain of memories, but ghost of Sparta. I never really got it. I beat it, but I never really liked this one. So I was shocked that it has an 86. I honestly, i think this game would fit more in the seventies.
00:55:11
Speaker
It's just the plot was just whatever. Cause obviously, you know, it's kind of a filler side game that they put on the, they dumped on the PSP. So it was never, you know, ah big mainstream one of the games. So,
00:55:25
Speaker
Yeah, God of War, the Ghost of Sparta. I always remember enjoying, because the other one has a higher rating the other PSP one. Not Chain of Memories. Chain of Memories is Kate of Olympus. Yeah. yeah.
00:55:37
Speaker
Chain of Memories. Yeah, God of War chain of memories. um Yeah, I liked that one better, but Ghost of Sparta. Yeah, I just didn't really like this one. It's not bad again by any stretch. Like we said, these aren't bad games.
00:55:52
Speaker
It's just it's I think it's a little overrated being at 86, which isn't obviously super high. But yeah, I don't think it should be that high.
00:56:01
Speaker
OK, I did not play this game, so I have nothing to add on that one. Sean hasn't played any of the older ones. yeah Honestly, these ones are skippable. they're all Actually, all the God of War OG ones, except three, I think, are playable on the Vita.
00:56:15
Speaker
so i I know if anyone has a Vita, you can play all the old God of Wars, but ah yeah, this one, not great. Not great. Okay.
00:56:26
Speaker
right I'll go next. um So i am good I'll do the same thing. I'll adopt the same strategy. I'll go with the lowest score and move up. So for my number four game, I have Unicorn Overlord. Ooh, recent. Okay.
00:56:40
Speaker
ah Recently, yeah, this was an 86 on Metacritic and it was an 88 on OpenCritic. ah So people really like this game. I heard so much about this game. I thought that I was absolutely going to love it. You know, I liked Vanilla Ware's last game, ah which was the 13 Sentinels.
00:56:55
Speaker
um It seemed really cool. But for this game, I just thought that it was just OK. um I thought the story was decent. um I thought the combat was decent, so um but the game was super long.
00:57:06
Speaker
um And I didn't feel like it did enough to justify that long of a runtime. By the end of the game, I was really just ready for it to end. um It's an 86 on Metacritic. I think it's like a 78 on Midnight Critic, if you will. It's not quite as good as as what people are saying.
00:57:22
Speaker
And I was a little bit surprised that I didn't like it more because I really thought that this was like a sure thing. I'm like, oh, this is a Midnight game. I'm going to love this. um Fire Emblem, it is not. Yeah, Unicorn Overlord.
00:57:35
Speaker
That's my pick. Have either of you guys played it? I don't remember. I know Hodge hasn't. no We know Hodge hasn't. What are you talking about? My favorite game
00:57:47
Speaker
of all time. How about you? oh go ahead. Sorry. No, was going to I just remember people liked this one when it came out. Again, obviously, yeah, this is not one of those. like could you could You could show me a screen from this and Triangle Strategy and Octopath and I couldn't tell you which one's which. So to me, i don't, I don't know, but I do remember people liked this one when it came out, but I do also remember it wasn't as hyped as like Octopath.
00:58:14
Speaker
Yep. All right, Sean, you were All right. My number four, going to do the same strategy that you guys did. And I'm going with a game that is rated 87 on Metacritic. And that is injustice too. Now,
00:58:27
Speaker
um now I'm not a fighting game guy, not a Mortal Kombat guy, but I love the first Injustice, mainly for the story. I thought it was awesome. Injustice 2's story is insane. I think it it totally like jumps the band. It is the most crazy story. I really didn't like it.
00:58:45
Speaker
I think that they the gameplay was actually worse compared that.
00:58:51
Speaker
um but i think the gameplay was worse i just i didn't enjoy it think i think that they changed a lot of the move sets of the characters i just didn't enjoy it and um i know i'm shocked it was in 87 because i i from my understanding it was not as well received as the other games as the other injustice game so i was shocked when i saw how highly rated it was did either of you guys ever play this game no all right is this a fighting game yeah it's a fighting game that's why i never played a huge fighter yeah i'm not a fighting game person either what i do remember is is there a is it only the two injustices or is there and only two i can't remember whos a mobile game okay what i remember about this one is it has amazing facial animation that's the only thing i remember about this game during the
00:59:37
Speaker
I remember seeing a cut scene and there was like a Harley Quinn and she had this look on her face and it was so realistic that I was dang, that looks good. But yeah, I've never, other than that, oh yeah, I've never been into most fighting and other than Dragon Ball Z fighting games. I've never really been into. Which are not real fighting games. I never played this.
00:59:57
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure. Like button mashers. I'm a button masher. Yeah, button masher. Yeah.
01:00:04
Speaker
Yeah, I played the ah was it Xenoverse or whatever. I played both of those. Yeah, they were OK. Yeah, they're fine. Yeah. All right.
01:00:15
Speaker
Moving on. Number three, Hodge. All right. Number three. This one going to be controversial, I'm sure. And that is it's the remake version, first off.
01:00:29
Speaker
of shadow of Colossus or shadow of the Colossus, I should say, I find this game to be so insanely overrated. It's not even funny. Like I played this. So I never played the OG on, on PS2. I always wanted to, because I just always heard how amazing it is.
01:00:49
Speaker
And then they remade it for PS4. And so I played it there and i was like, why is this so beloved?
01:01:00
Speaker
It's just, you're at this temple, you ride your horse to a Titan, you climb it, you kill it, you go back to the temple, rinse and repeat like 10 times.
01:01:12
Speaker
And, there's there I will say there is one emotional moment, which I will not spoil, that happens near the end of the game where you're like, oh man, that sucks. And then the end of the game, I know it's supposed to be the point poignant of you're the monster all along, not the monsters you kill. Like that stupid crap. I'm like, okay, I get it, but...
01:01:34
Speaker
I just I do not understand the hype for this game. Like I can so understand people liking it, but people act like this is like the one of the greatest PlayStation two games of all time. And I'm like, I don't do not see it. Like it's it's a gorgeous game again. Like I'm an artsy person. So, you know, artsy, fartsy indie shit. I'm going to be like, oh, beautiful.
01:01:54
Speaker
But the game I'm like, I was like, this is so pretentious. I don't it's not. I don't know. if you If you like it, more power to you, but I was not a fan. And it had a 92 on Open Critic, 91 on Metacritic. So I definitely do not. It's funny. I tried playing Eco, and I felt the same way. like i thought it was so I thought it was so boring.
01:02:19
Speaker
I'm like, this is so boring. yeah but weird I never bothered with the Eco because of this game. Weird, clunky controls. i don't know. I just thought it was so boring. and Not fun. That's why I didn't bother with Shadow of the Colossus.
01:02:32
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And obviously we all know that these are Midnight's just cup of tea. He only plays his favorite game ever. Yeah. Yeah. I never, I never had any desire to play these games. I did play Echo the Dolphin though.
01:02:46
Speaker
e go Echo, Echo. On Sega Saturn or whatever. Echo the Dolphin. yeah yeah Yeah. Spiritual successor. Yeah. Very similar. I'm sure. Yeah. All right.
01:02:57
Speaker
Good stuff. Good stuff. satisfied all right i will move on then to my number three pick here and i'm gonna go ahead and go with marvel's spider-man 2 that's that's right this game is a 90 on metacritic which i think is absurd and it's an 88 on open critic uh which is closer uh so yeah this got a nine out of ten on metacritic for spider-man 2 really guys who Who's judging? Who's voting for this?
01:03:28
Speaker
This is Cape Slob. Okay. though Look, is it a good game? Yes. Did I get the platinum? Yes. Did I have fun? Yes. Would I go back and play it again? No, no chance. And now it's super obvious, super predictable as a lot of superhero games are. You cannot immediately tell what's going to happen.
01:03:45
Speaker
um It's just a very predictable story that doesn't do anything to really change the game at all. Um, the combat and stuff was fun, but it was basically the same as Miles Morales, uh, which is like a hair, a little bit of small twist.
01:04:00
Speaker
Um, I just, I don't see how this is a 90 at all. Uh, this is like a solid eight out of 10 game for me. I had fun. I'm not mad that I played it. I'm glad that I got the platinum. Um, um I have no no hatred for this game and in any way. I just don't see how people are saying this is a 9 out of 10. To me, 9 out of 10 is like something really special.
01:04:18
Speaker
Like I just said Kingdom Come Deliverance. I gave it like a 93 or whatever, 93, 94. That game was like life changing. It was amazing. ah how is How is this game close to that? It's not, in my opinion. ah But yeah, no hate. Like I said, it's not a bad game, but it's not a 9 out of 10, in my opinion.
01:04:34
Speaker
Marvel's Spider-Man 2. I love this game. I love Mario Spider-Man too. I think it's great. I think it plays and fantastic. i don't I don't think the story is like, you know, wicked gray is anything special, but I do think it it gets more hate than it deserves.
01:04:47
Speaker
But, you know, it's each their own. I like it a lot. Yeah, I still need to get around to this one. I'm kind at the point where now I'm just waiting for it to add add to the PS like catalog for the PS Plus because I've just been so long. cause So what happened was before this game came out, I replayed the Spider-Man 1 remastered because I love that game. I think it deserves a 90. I don't know what it has, but I loved the first one.
01:05:13
Speaker
And so I replayed the remaster because I'm the kind of person who wants to replay games before he plays the sequel. and but i beat it and then my hype for this one because i just i heard very mixed thing where where the first one was universal when it came out everyone loved it this one was a little more mixed so it kind of killed my hype and i just never got to it when it came out and so i just haven't played it yet uh but i do want to play it so but i have heard the same of where it's i think sean's probably in the minority of i am i know this one over first one
01:05:44
Speaker
Yeah. So I'm, I'm excited to play. Cause I also loved miles Morales. That was a great game. That was, and I loved it cause it was like a five hour game. It's really short, but yeah, I'm going to get to this one eventually, but I definitely, yeah, I definitely don't think it's going to be a bad game. I mean, I've seen some of the cringy stuff they have in the game, which is whatever, who cares?
01:06:04
Speaker
But ah yeah, I I'm excited to play this even though, yeah, I'm sure maybe it's not a 90, but I do want to, I still do want to play it at some Yeah. And I think you should play it because like I said, it is a good, fun game.
01:06:17
Speaker
um And it's it's also a pretty easy and fluid platinum to get. So that's cool. You can get a nice plat that, like I said, it's it's not a hard plat and it makes sense. You just basically clear everything. Yeah. So I like it.
01:06:30
Speaker
Yeah. I have a plat. I have the plat for the OG Spider-Man, the remaster Spider-Man and Miles Morales. Like I love those games. So I'm excited for this one.

The Spider-Man Debate

01:06:37
Speaker
I'm just it just kind of sucks that I heard it's not as good, but I'm still excited to play it and Obviously, I'll make my own judgment on if I like it more or less than the Yeah, just for me personally, it was the worst of the three. My favorite is actually Miles Morales.
01:06:50
Speaker
I love ah I love Miles as a character. I love the tight six to eight hour runtime. I thought that was beautiful um in a day and age where we're pressed for time and there's so many games. um And you had to get it anyway. And you had to play new. get You had to beat new game plus get the plat. And if you skip over all the side content, I'm pretty sure I got the beat new game plus in like two hours. It's a very quick game when you avoid all the other side stuff.
01:07:13
Speaker
Awesome. All right. So that was my number three. Let's go ahead and move on to Sean Mason. What you got, sir? number three, and we're going in order of my Metacritic scores again, Let me just bring it up.

Critiques on Pokémon Y

01:07:26
Speaker
Ooh, we spoke about this series a little earlier, and that is Pokemon White. Pokemon Y. This is the generation 6 game, Pokemon X and Y. It has an 88 on Metacritic. And um I think this is really the... I was so hyped for this because it was coming off generation 5, which is like really where Pokemon really started peaking. I'm like, they're going to get so much better. We're on the 3DS now, this high-powered console.
01:07:54
Speaker
Nope. It was a terrible, terrible game. The story was horrible. There's like little to no post-game content. It was so bad they didn't even release a third version. That's how bad it is. poco Even Game Freak was like, we're not releasing a third one because we know this.
01:08:07
Speaker
we don't We don't like the Kalos region. It was trying to bite on the nostalgia of like they were like, oh, we're bringing back It's going to be like, that you can get the original three starters. going to give you one of the original three starters and you can get all 151 original Pokemon.
01:08:22
Speaker
And I just didn't really, it never really clicked with me. I've tried to replay it and it's just not like, not for me.
01:08:33
Speaker
I love this game. Yeah. It's one of, it's like the only Pokemon that I beat and I thought it was really good. um I'm sad. I'm sad to hear that it sucks. Yeah. for you. i just What was the original starter? the these weren't No, you can't get them. You can get Charmander, Blastoise, I mean Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur.
01:08:54
Speaker
Okay, I don't know why I don't remember that, but okay. Who was the best starter in this game? From year from like the original starters or the like newer starters? yeah yeah Yeah, the original starters. Do you mean like the original starters for the game? there was start or yeah Yeah, there was Chesspin, the grass type, Fennec, and the fire, and Froakie, the water. Definitely Froakie.
01:09:15
Speaker
I went with Fennec. Yeah, you like cats, though. I do like cats. I usually also like fire. I'm a water guy. so I'm fire, too. Well, yeah, you're obviously fire. I'm a little Charmander up there.
01:09:28
Speaker
Yeah, right. when I got my Charmanders. i mean, I like yellow because like Pikachu. So that's why I was always. Listeners, if there was ever any doubt that Sean would beat Hodge and I up, now you know. Water beats fire. Yep.
01:09:40
Speaker
Water beats fire. We wouldn't stand a chance. troy It's true. All right. Okay. Are you satisfied with your X and Y? My chromosomes? Yes, I am satisfied.
01:09:52
Speaker
that That too. Hodge, did you have any thoughts on Pokemon Y? No, this was during my long, long hiatus from Pokemon. Because as I as i said before, I played yellow... and red and then silver and gold and then i started silver and gold silver and gold sorry yeah i fell off pokemon until ultra moon and then i tried getting back into it and i just haven't enjoyed really any of them since but yeah i uh never played this one i at some point if i can i'll try and get to the ones that sean mentioned from yeah not this one not this one je not this but yeah ah newer as i said before newer pokemon not really into so
01:10:29
Speaker
Yeah, listen to Sean. Don't listen to me. Sean is by far the expert on Pokemon. ah All right, Hodge.

Indie Game Overrating - Journey & Disco Elysium

01:10:37
Speaker
You are up. Number two. All right. Numero dos. I got me.
01:10:42
Speaker
Okay, this one, I don't know if it'll be controversial, but I know this is one of those indie darlings everyone loves, and that is Journey. i was want color just... Yeah, I, this, it was fine.
01:10:55
Speaker
Like, as everyone knows, I'm an indie lover. I love walking Sims. I love all that kind of art. I love the artistic stuff. And like, I don't, again, i don't dislike this game, but in what world is this game a 93 on open critic and a 92 on Metacritic? Like it is, you walk, and like can't remember what reviewer it was. They said they cried at the ending. I'm like,
01:11:20
Speaker
What? Like, you're just a little dude in a cloak walking up a mountain. Like, it's... I'm sorry. i know Maybe I'm dense and I'm missing the amazing mystery behind the game. didn't know that? You're a dense gamer.
01:11:35
Speaker
That's true. i That's true. and I'm a blockbuster gamer. All indies mean nothing to me. Yeah, you hate indies. Exactly. i'm notoriously... Notoriously hate them. But yeah, it's just, I don't know. It was like, it's, I mean, I liked it. It was a you know two, three hour game. It's a short game, but it's just, I finished it and I was just like, right, that's, that's fine. Okay.
01:11:59
Speaker
I'm done. Moved on. So it's just, I don't know. Like it was game of the year for a lot of places that year. And and I'm just like, it's it. All right. Let's, let's slow the roll people. This, this game is fine. It's not,
01:12:14
Speaker
it's not amazing. It shouldn't be on the, in the, the, the Pantheon, the the, the, the Mount Rushmore of PlayStation exclusives. It's not, it's not that great. We need to, we need to chill a little bit. It's fine.
01:12:27
Speaker
Yeah. You're not the last of us. You're not that guy, pal. Yeah. youre You're not that guy. Yeah. No, yeah. It's, it's fine. It's just fine. So journey. Interesting.
01:12:39
Speaker
yeah I wanted to put this on my list, but I hadn't played it. I knew Hodge was going to put this on his list.
01:12:47
Speaker
I just knew like if I did play this game, I probably wouldn't like it that much. It just doesn't seem like a midnight game. So I wanted to put it on my list, but since I hadn't played it, I couldn't. you said it's not a did you play it song but You said it's not a midnight game. Yeah, it's a daytime game. That's why.
01:13:02
Speaker
Yeah, boom. Mic drop. I'm going to change my name to daytime. You should. Noon. Noon. We could be competing. was going say noon. Midnight noon.
01:13:15
Speaker
That's right. The man, the myth, the legend, Noon. Noon Mason. All right. All right. Let's move on, I guess. Midnight. That's me. Noon Mason. It's not a bad name. There are worse names.
01:13:30
Speaker
All right. This next one, I think Hodge is going to like this one. My number two pick is Disco Elysium. Disco Elysium got a 91 on Metacritic and 92 on OpenCritic.
01:13:43
Speaker
This game is not a 92, in my opinion. This game was like an 83, 81, something like that. Did I have fun? Yes. Is it unique? ah Yeah, it is unique with the story, but there wasn't anything life-changing at all.
01:13:58
Speaker
um Also, down with communism. We're not a fan of communism. ah But this game, I mean, it was cool when it was unique how they did like the the different branches of the story and there was some minor differences based on what you did.
01:14:11
Speaker
um But overall, I just thought this game was just good. It wasn't amazing. um I don't see how people could say that this is a 91 or a 92. Again, I think people are giving out scores sometimes a little bit too willy nilly.
01:14:24
Speaker
ah But then again, i mean, what who am I to say, honestly, it's all what we love. You know, there are probably games that I rate super high that people are like, really? um So who knows? But for me, Disco Elysium, not 91, 92.
01:14:38
Speaker
It's an 81, 82. Yeah, it's a zero for me. Down with communism? Oh, yeah. If there was no communism, would you have played it, Hodge?
01:14:49
Speaker
Eh, probably. Well, maybe. I did see gameplay. The artistic style of the game, I'm not going to hate on. It looks kind of cool, but... The gameplay itself, it and even even before i you know found out about the whole commie stuff, I was like, eh, just, yeah looks what it whatever. It didn't intrigue me by any stretch ever. so just And their new game coming out, I'm like, ah that doesn't look good either. I was going to ask you about the new game, because the communist dude's gone. He's gone! not there anymore. oh
01:15:21
Speaker
Yeah, I mean, that kicked him out. he He starved to death because his government didn't give him what he Probably. my um Yeah, he. ah Yeah, those games, yeah they never appealed to me anyway. So despite that, when I saw even when I saw the new one, knowing what I knew, I was like, it just doesn't look good anyway. So it's more of a it's more convenient for me to say I'm not going to play because of communism. When in reality, I'm not play playing I'm not going to play because it doesn't appeal to me.
01:15:48
Speaker
All Sean, any thoughts on this? I liked but I do think, no, I didn't know the MetaCorp score is that high. Now that I know that, yeah, it's definitely a little too high in my book. But again, I don't score games, so.
01:16:00
Speaker
yeah Yeah. But yeah, no, no, this is an anti-communist podcast. We do not, we do not support communism. Sean doesn't score games. Game scores Sean. Game scores me. yeah And he's always a 10

Sonic Adventure 2 Criticism

01:16:12
Speaker
out of 10. Yeah, always. Yeah.
01:16:16
Speaker
Justin Fields, right, you're up yeah we're on my number two in this yeah these next two might piss off a couple people someone in this. Justin Fields, podcast and like this off actually. Justin Fields, it's gonna be I guarantee. Justin we'll see my number two is, let me bring up my list sorry it's on my phone so i'm using a different like computer.
01:16:37
Speaker
um Actually, well this won't piss off anyone here. This one. My next one definitely will. And that is Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast in 89 on Metacritic. ah This game's trash. Alright, I'm sorry. Sonic.
01:16:50
Speaker
Come on, guys. um Everyone thinks this is like the greatest game. i remember people saying, this is better than Mario Sunshine and Mario 64. It's the greatest game ever. It's like, no. Sonic Adventure 2.
01:17:01
Speaker
ah Get out of here. This game is trash. I'm sorry. Yeah. Shadow the Hedgehog. And you know what the sad part is? I know so much about this game because all my friends loved it. So I've basically seen the game from start to finish.
01:17:13
Speaker
I know all the cringy lines. Oh my God. It's so bad. You're the real faker. um It's just so bad. It's so like I've tried to play it and it it controls horribly. You have no idea where you're going because you're going so fast.
01:17:29
Speaker
they They say it's a platforming game. It's not a platformer. You're running around a Sonic 3D, you know, running around. Everyone's like, oh, yeah, you get to play as mechs. Yeah, that's just what I want to do. i want to play as Tails with four tails and a mech robot suit.
01:17:42
Speaker
That's just what I want to do. Yeah, you you can race cars. Yeah, you can race cars in a lot of games, too. Yeah, you know what? They have a game. It's called a Mario Kart.
01:17:54
Speaker
We got to chase down the president, which is overriding. Yeah, it is, but we got to chase down the president. What do you mean? The freaking president? You're a freaking hedgehog and ah in a fox with four tails, I think. Two tails. I don't even know. And then in in the Echin-A, you're looking for like ruby, the emeralds. And then you have Roge the Bat, who like people like look up online to like, you know, I'm not going go there, but we all know what they did with those pictures.
01:18:18
Speaker
Yeah. and i have no idea and then like the movie like the sonic the three movies based off this game i saw that movie and i'm like this movie's horrible maybe because i didn't see sonic 2. i don't know this game is awful the entire sonic franchise is just terrible and this is everyone thinks this is like the since this is the rated the highest sonic game i had to put it on here because like really and it's a dreamcast game get that controller out of here guys jesus All right. Rant over. I love it. Let the hate let the hate flow through you, Sean. love it.
01:18:49
Speaker
Yo, shout out to RK. This is mainly for him. RK128, Lord Sonic.
01:18:55
Speaker
RK, if you're actually listening to this podcast, we expect a rebuttal in the comments. Let Sean know why he's wrong and why Sonic Adventure 2 is awesome. Oh God. I can already see it coming. So...
01:19:06
Speaker
So I'm obviously, I'm not a Sonic fan, but I do like some of the games. Like I played the original three on Sega Genesis all the time. As I said, Sonic Racing, I love i sonic car that game.
01:19:17
Speaker
Yeah, Sonic R. i I unironically love that game, ah but I did like this game. but I also, I didn't have a Dreamcast. Wasn't this also on GameCube? Yeah, it was, but I was talking about the Dreamcast version. The GameCube version has like a 70-something. Yeah.
01:19:31
Speaker
Okay. So, yeah, i um I do remember playing it with at my friend's house. I just remember there was one game mode where you had to, like, go and find, dig for, like, these... Chaos Emeralds. Like, diamonds. Yeah, Chaos Emeralds.
01:19:42
Speaker
Yeah, the Chaos Emeralds. And I just remember really liking playing that. So, I'm not going to come to bat for this game, because I don't really like playing as Rogue to bat. But do remember... Rogue. I think it's Rouge. Rouge, whatever. What do I know?
01:19:57
Speaker
yeah But yeah, I'm not going to come to bat for this game, but I do remember enjoying playing that game mode. So I always had a good memory of this game. So, but yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure you're right. Yeah, I've never played it, so I i have nothing really to add, but ah I love how spicy it was. I love it. Also, the third movie is better than the second movie, but they're both but worse than the first. I've i've only seen the first and the third, so.
01:20:23
Speaker
Yeah, I've only seen the first. I really liked the first one. The second one is fine. And then the third one is okay. It's good, but not great. But yeah. All right. Haj, what is your number one, sir?
01:20:37
Speaker
My number one. So there are a couple games I had on my original list that are higher than this one, but they're games I've talked about before and stuff.

Metroid Prime Remastered Evaluation

01:20:45
Speaker
And I don't need to, I could be very controversial and bring up, you know, whatever games, but I'm going to bring up one that I don't know if I've talked about on here before.
01:20:56
Speaker
And that is it has a 94 on both Metacritic and OpenCritic. And that is Metroid Prime Remastered. Get out of here. Get the heck out of here.
01:21:08
Speaker
I think this game was good. But in no way is this and is a 90 plus. It is a fine game. it can you have to lock on to enemies. So the shooting is horrible.
01:21:22
Speaker
It's ah obviously it's a Metroid game. So you get powers and go back to areas, which is stuff I like doing. I like doing that. And again, I didn't hate this game. And if Berto were still, if I don't think he listens to our podcast. I haven't talked to him in a long time.
01:21:36
Speaker
But if he listened, he would be screaming at his phone right now because I think this is one of his favorite games. It's his favorite game of all time. Yeah. and so I thought this game at best is an eight.
01:21:49
Speaker
It's fine. It's good. a 94, no. Nah, no. by ah ninety four no not Not at all. Definitely not. It is not even remotely close to a 94.
01:22:01
Speaker
So, ah but again, like this game. It was fun. I beat it, but not a 94 at all. Not close.
01:22:12
Speaker
So yeah, that's me. I really like Metroid Prime 4. I mean, Metroid Prime 4. Metroid Prime. I really do like it a lot. I played it for the first time last year, as many people know.
01:22:24
Speaker
um I didn't know was that high. I mean, I don't know. I can see it being a 94 for some people. you know Some people think it's the greatest game ever. um It's funny. it it It reminded me of Halo, actually, like the story mode. I don't know it just did. Like the creatures and stuff.
01:22:40
Speaker
But Hodge, You can be, you can have that one. That's fine.
01:22:48
Speaker
Okay. I have nothing. Never played it. Never played a Metroid game in my life. Believe it or not. They're fine. All right. My number Number one.
01:23:02
Speaker
I have a couple here that I would go with, and all three of these would piss off people. Which one do I? I'm going to go with a recent game here, and it's going to be Claire Obscure Expedition

Debate on Claire Obscure Expedition 33

01:23:12
Speaker
33. This game is overrated. 93 Metacritic.
01:23:18
Speaker
92 open critic. um This game was a great game. It was for a time my game of the year, but it has since been surpassed multiple times. Death Stranding 2 is better. Kingdom to Come Deliverance 2 is better.
01:23:30
Speaker
Ghost of Yote is probably going to be better, although I haven't got deep enough, but I'd be surprised, honestly, if it's not better. um So yeah, I just, this game is not a 93. I don't see how it is. It's the music...
01:23:43
Speaker
The music is insane. It's one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard in my life. Every now and then I'm watching a video, a YouTube video or something, and somebody puts a Claire Obscura song in there, and it's just an instant jam, and it just makes me happy, and I want to listen to it.
01:23:54
Speaker
So shout out to the music. um I do love the art style. I love the characters as well. But the story, the story was kind of... lacking in many ways. um I thought Act 3 was super rushed, and I thought the ending was trash. I thought both endings were super trash.
01:24:10
Speaker
um They completely invalidate many of the characters and their choices, I feel like, and I just i don't like it. There should have been a better or a third ending. I've said it before. I'm not going to beat this dead horse, but I thought this was a very good game.
01:24:22
Speaker
ah This is a very solid 85, maybe, ah but it's not a 93. 93, I feel like there's a big gap between it You're like, oh, 85 and 93, that's only 8. There's a big gap. between an 85 and a 93 to me. That's a huge gap.
01:24:35
Speaker
It's like the Richter scale, you know, like when you go up the Richter scale, it's and worse it's much bigger. worse and worse. Yeah, it's way, way more severe every point that you add. um So yeah, I just feel like there's no way this is a 93 for me personally.
01:24:47
Speaker
I did love the game still. I hope that there's a sequel. I'm excited for their next studio, the next game from this studio. um But 93, stand down. What do you guys think?
01:24:59
Speaker
I know you just you probably disagree with me. It's not a 93. It should be way higher. I think it's properly rated. i think it's properly rated. It's a great game. Story's awesome. ninety Great soundtrack. Great gameplay. think it's properly rated. 98 for me.
01:25:17
Speaker
Probably. are you being sick Are you being serious? Yeah. Wow. the only The only thing I agree with you on is that Act 3 was rushed. Yeah. You like those endings? I don't want to spoil anything.
01:25:29
Speaker
The endings are both amazing. i would like to I would like to debate you on why ah the endings are bad, but that would be super spoilerific. so And it's all opinion anyway. So if you love it, I'm glad. I'm glad.
01:25:41
Speaker
I do like it. Like I said, I just don't think it's personally 93. yeah um sean feel free to take it away if you have more thoughts too go ahead well i was gonna say i'm obviously not gonna be offended by this because obviously you're saying you like like if you were coming in you're being like it's like a two i'd be like you're an idiot yeah but no it's obviously yeah it's it's subjective on where it lands and yeah like you said it's a good game but you just don't like it as much as like me it's one of my favorite games of all time at this point so like obviously i'm gonna be it's like Really quick. but I remember when the OG Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 back in 09 came out, Game Informer gave it a 9.75 and everyone wrote in saying that the score was too low. Because in the next episode, that like everyone wrote in saying that our 9.75 out of 10 was just criminally too low.
01:26:29
Speaker
Wait, which time? Modern Warfare 2. Oh, no, that's too Because they gave 410, so when they gave Modern Warfare 2 a 9.75, everyone's like, how dare you?
01:26:40
Speaker
It's like, it's still a 9.75. What are you complaining about? And so, yeah, it's basically asking, like, how dare you not give this game with a 93 higher than a 93? How dare But, yeah, anyway.
01:26:57
Speaker
but yeah anyway
01:27:00
Speaker
All right. Sean? My number one is Call a Duty... No, I'm kidding. My number one is... This is going to piss off Hodge. I know it will.

Guitar Hero's Cultural Impact

01:27:13
Speaker
probably i don't know if Midnight... It might... is guitar hero one the original guitar hero it's it's at a 91 on metacritic and this is overrated we're gonna sit here we're gonna play these plastic instruments that you know no one's gonna use in 10 years um we're gonna play these songs that everyone's gonna get back oh this is great it's the greatest thing since sliced bread we're playing these amazing songs I didn't see the appeal in it at all. I understand I'm a DDR kid, so I like DDR a lot better. At least with DDR, you're getting some exercise in there. You're you're moving your legs, you're dancing around. Guitar Hero is sitting there look at me, I'm playing guitar. You're not playing guitar. I'm sorry, you're not. You are pressing buttons and strumming the strummer, whatever it's called.
01:28:00
Speaker
ah You're not playing guitar. And I saw people try to tell me that they knew how to play guitar because they played Guitar Hero. I'm sorry. It's not a 94. um It's not. i actually went to the track list for it. Get out of here. That track list is completely overrated.
01:28:14
Speaker
It's missing some bangers.
01:28:18
Speaker
Sean, do we have to give it a little bit of leeway, though, because it was the first game? Like, it kind of started the whole thing, didn't it? and i think he's trashed Guitar Hero as a whole, not just Guitar Hero. DDR, so much better.
01:28:31
Speaker
well that's just that's just wrong but um no i i don't i'll i'll agree with you i'll half agree with you guitar hero one wasn't very good uh but even rated higher which you could have done is guitar hero two had a night properly written so no that one is properly right that one's awesome actually i think guitar hero three is underrated it's at 85 uh that one should be that one's even better so I don't know why that one got a lower rating, but no, I love, yeah, I love Guitar Hero. So obviously I'm going to vehemently disagree with you there. I still have my guitars actually right there.
01:29:07
Speaker
I have my 360 just so I can play them. And I love, i love these games. I actually know. Are you a guitar? Are you, do you consider yourself guitarist? Well, I know how to play. I actionronmatically act i knew that. So I should have known.
01:29:19
Speaker
Um, But ah no, I love the, I love these games. There's like, i've I've said this before is that part of the reason why Xbox 360 the greatest generation for me is because that was the era of q guitar hero and rock band and playing those with my friends was so much fun. I loved doing that.
01:29:37
Speaker
So like, I love playing these games with my friends. So yeah, I love guitar here. So I'm obviously going to completely disagree with you. I mean, but I, like I said, I will agree that guitar hero one wasn't that great.
01:29:48
Speaker
go was trackling It was that like, like midnight said, it was, yeah I don't honestly don't remember it. I do remember guitar hero two and three had great soundtracks. One, I don't remember what songs were on that one. So I can't even really say, but, uh, honestly though, I will say two, three and like Metallica are really the only ones I give a crap about like world tour five and four. i don't care about those games or anything, but yeah I love the guitar hero games. I just also, I love music. So I loved playing them back in the day, but,
01:30:18
Speaker
So, yeah, I half agree. Guitar Hero 1 probably shouldn't be a 91, but I do love Guitar Hero, so I'm not going to agree with you on Guitar Hero 1 or Guitar Hero in general being trash because i didnt ah cause I'm the opposite. I think DDR sucks, so right I'm just i'm not goingnna support i'm not going to agree there. So I love Guitar Hero, did not like DDR at all, but yeah.
01:30:40
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah, i love i like like I like Guitar Hero and Rock Band and stuff. It was cool. yeah I played it a little bit. um I was never amazing at it. I could play on like the medium setting, the one where it adds the blue or whatever, but I couldn't go higher than that. I wasn't skilled enough. I didn't want to put in the effort to become good and at that. But yeah, I do remember the main thing about Guitar Hero and Rock Band was every time I would go over for family gatherings over at my aunt ah aunt and uncle's house, would always they always had the Xbox and we would break out. Rock Band is what they would have. They'd have the whole setup. they'd have They had the drums, the guitar.
01:31:09
Speaker
They even had the singing. um And I do remember I had one traumatic experience where one time I was doing the the vocals so and my singing was so bad that my entire family started laughing at me as I was singing. So like the people that I love the most were like literally laughing at me, like because my singing was so bad. And it was like trump it was so traumatic that I never sung again. i'm like, oh wow, I'm bad. All right.
01:31:33
Speaker
ah So shout out to my family for scarring me for life. But ah yeah, these games, they these games were good. um But I agree that Sean is probably not a 91. It's probably like an 80, 83. eighty three
01:31:47
Speaker
All right. Are we satisfied? Any more thoughts on Guitar Hero or in general, any of these games? No, I got Well, yeah, like I said, I had 16 others that I could have done. ah Some of them want to do one honorable mention.
01:32:02
Speaker
Well, all right. Actually, how about this? Instead, i will do the highest rated one that I had on my list. It's just an honorable mention, and that's Red Dead Redemption 2. I understand it has an amazing plot and everything, which is why, but I did not like that gameplay at all.
01:32:18
Speaker
So I don't think it's a 95, which is what it's rated. and 97 on Metacritic. Vehemently disagree. That's one. One of the best games of all time. um Nope.
01:32:29
Speaker
Definitely worthy. And Skyrim is obviously on my list, but I didn't want to rehash that alone. ah Whoa. Whoa.
01:32:43
Speaker
Here's one to piss off ah Sean. I also have Majora's Mask on my list. Whatever.
01:32:50
Speaker
I think Ocarina of Time. Oh, God. No, get out of here. Majora's Mask is way better than Ocarina. Hey, Ocarina. I never played Ocarina. I mean, I never played Majora's. Hey, Ocarina. All right, boys.
01:33:04
Speaker
ah Okay. So, yeah, that's it. I don't have any honorable mentions because I'm going to save these for a part three sometime a year from now. now um All right. So.
01:33:15
Speaker
This has been Games Over Plastic, episode number 44. A very good episode, I would say. i had a lot of fun. It's great having the band back together. Great being with you guys. I love talking and games.
01:33:26
Speaker
shout Yeah, guitar hero. um But yeah, it's always great. It's good time. Let's go around the horn here and just give our final thoughts, shall we? Why don't we go ahead and start it off with you, Hodge? What are your final thoughts for this episode, sir?
01:33:39
Speaker
Yeah, was definitely happy to have, the like you said, the band back together. It's been yeah over a month since we had an episode together. So that's awesome. And then obviously I'm very happy as if anyone's on video, you can see my color has changed in my background because we are now in the fall.
01:33:52
Speaker
So I am very excited. We are in spoopy season. I am so excited for next episode because we i we still don't have the ah the subject down. We haven't decided on the topic yet, but it will be our Halloween themed episode.
01:34:08
Speaker
Yeah, it will be our Halloween themed episode. So please look forward to that. It's going to be a lot of fun. I'm very much looking forward to that. I think you guys are going to get a kick out of my costume.
01:34:19
Speaker
ah But yeah, I'm happy we're recording and back together. And I'm excited for we're now actually we're entering into my favorite part of the year. The last quarter of the year, October, November, December is by far my favorite time of the year.
01:34:32
Speaker
obviously because of the holidays and stuff. So I'm very excited. We already have, we have most of our episodes, you know, planned out for the rest of this rest of this year. So I am so excited to get to this last quarter and all the fun episodes we do to finish out the year. So yeah, that's what I got to say.
01:34:51
Speaker
All right. three My final thoughts are that, yeah, just thank you guys again for supporting. That's always my final thoughts. I'm happy to be here with you guys. Always have a lot of fun. Shout out to Bucky's and happy Halloween.
01:35:04
Speaker
Yeah. Look forward to our next Halloween episode because we will be in costumes again. Uh, so you guys are going to want to watch the video version for sure, because we are going to be in full costume for the full episode and no doubt Hodge. I, I, I will probably edit that one cause he loves doing the holiday edits oh yeah and it's going to be what he does on these holiday edits is crazy. So make sure you check out the video version.
01:35:25
Speaker
Yeah. And if, uh, if you haven't already check out our Halloween episode from last year, uh, because we just talked about our favorite spoopy games of all time. So it's not like time sensitive where it's out of date or anything.
01:35:37
