Pussycat and chalk moose. Moose? Mm-hmm. Moose. Mouse. All right. Which one there set first? Pussycat first. I wonder if we should give it a little shake first. It's kind of creamy on one side. I don't know, but I don't like these things. I don't either. Why'd you get them? Because it's funny watching your face whenever I make you drink them. I enjoy it. And there's an airplane. 00:04:22
minorsofmayhem
Very alcohol. Oh, yes. Okay. Here's to 32 episode. That one. Oh, yeah. Ouch. Why that one burned so bad. That was more alcohol-y. You're right. Gross. I think that one would be cold on ice or good on ice. Like a sipper. And coffee. Oh, yeah. And coffee. Well, what you got for true crime news today? Anything good? Yes. It's sad, but it's good okay in a way. In Johnson County, Texas, 2001, an individual picking up cans in a ditch came across the remains of a baby girl wrapped in a jacket, umbilical cord still attached.
00:05:20
minorsofmayhem
They believed the baby was born outside of the hospital, dropped off and passed away shortly after. authority named her Authorities named her, quote, Angel Baby Doe, unquote, because at the time they could not identify her. It was a cold case until September 2023, using advanced DNA technology to identify the mother. After 21 years, Angel Baby Doe finally got her justice. For more information on this story, you can find it at truecrimenews.com. That's all you're going to give me? Um, so ah I always thought it was ambilical cord. It's um, I already knew that. Well, I didn't. I was like, I was typing out my case today and I put ambilical cord and it wouldn't like auto correct. And I'm like, well, how do you spell it? And then it's a U.
00:06:21
minorsofmayhem
Did they arrest her? Yeah. Did we get the story? Yes, she's arrested. And? I didn't read the whole thing. For more information, you can go to truecrimenews.com. Sucks giving you a hanger, don't you? And I believe you're going to leave me hanging like this. You've done it to me, man.

Reena Virk's Tragic Murder
00:07:11
minorsofmayhem
oh Nothing. <unk> Okay. Today, we are covering the Shoreline Six, which is the murder of Rina Verg. I've never heard of this one, the Shoreline Six? Yep. Okay. It's a Canadian case. Okay. So, we'll just get right into it.
00:07:41
minorsofmayhem
Rina Verg was born on March 10th, 1983. I'm going to butcher these names and I apologize in advance. my Manjit and Souman, and resided in St. Nick, British Columbia, Canada. Manjit was an immigrant from India and Souman came from an Indo-Canadian family who converted to two jehovahs

two Jehovah's. Jehovah's Witness from Hinduism. Growing up as a Jehovah's Witness, Rina found it quite restricting and the weight of being bullied by kids, like sticking gum in her hair and making fun of her weight. She struggled trying to make friends and tried running away several times. ah Desperate to make, wow, my contacts are bugging out. Wow. What is happening?
00:08:46
minorsofmayhem
What do you mean? Why are we lagging so bad? ah I don't know. Do we keep going? We better check it. Sorry about that pause. um Desperate to make friends, she met a group of teenagers at the park smoking. This is when Reina started rebelling and rebelling and smoking weed and cigarettes. In 1996, she accused her father of molestation, hoping she would be removed and put into a foster home in hopes of having more freedom. Reina lived in the province's care and a relative's home for several months before dropping the charge charges and moving home.
00:09:38
minorsofmayhem
Her parents believed that it was her new friend group convincing her to make those allegations toward her father. Two of the girls that she became friends with were Nicole Cook and Kelly Eller. Nicole loved gangsters and mobsters like John Gotti. She bragged about stealing cars and how she wanted to be the first ever female hitman. She would draw disturbing things like disembodied heads, severed hands, and gangsters shooting cops, and her best friend, Kelly, would keep these drawings in her locker. Rina absolutely admired Nicole's confidence, making her want to be close friends with her.
00:10:23
minorsofmayhem
In the fall of 1997, Rina took Nicole's phone book and called numerous boys in it, telling them that Nicole had AIDS, her eyebrows were fake, and that she wasn't as pretty as she thought. Was there a reason behind it? I mean, why would she do that? Was she pissed at her? I'm not sure. I could never really find the reason behind it. OK, that was kind of hateful. Well, I and don't think they were the greatest of friends. Okay. To her. Okay. Typical teenage behavior. This enraged Nicole and started planning her revenge. A few days before the murder, Nicole's mom overheard her talking to Kelly on the phone saying how they were going to dig a grave and bury a girl.
00:11:10
minorsofmayhem
On November 14th, around 60 students were in the field behind the Shoreline School, which was a normal thing to do on a Friday night. All the students would mingle and there were clicks of all kinds, like pretty girls, skater boys, gangsters with the baggy pants, and so on and so forth. And of course, some students had sold their parents liquor to drink, but eventually police showed up and shut down the party. A specific group of teenagers decided to go to the gorge, which was a place under a bridge that was concrete and full of graffiti. This is when Nicole and Kelly started to take their revenge on Rina. Nicole put a cigarette out on Rina's forehead. Rina screamed in pain and started swinging back. Kelly joined in by punching Rina. Six girls were punching and kicking Rina along with one male by the name of Warren Glowatsky.
00:12:08
minorsofmayhem
Some of the teenagers stood there and watched as Reena was laying in the mud being kicked and punched repeatedly. One girl finally told everyone to stop. Reena just laid there in the mud, crying for help and not a single soul did. Reena was very weak, staggering on the bridge to go home. She was followed by Warren and Kelly and started beating her and banging her head into a tree, then dragged her into the water. Unfortunately, she would never make it home to her family. Irina would not be found until eight days later when spotted by a helicopter and police divers retrieved her body from the water. During the eight days, there was talk about what happened to Irina and basically trying to keep it on the down low so teachers, parents, and police wouldn't catch wind of it.
00:12:58
minorsofmayhem
On November 24th, Dr. Laurel Gray, who conducted Reina's autopsy, said Reina's body had extensive of damage, multiple blows sustained to her stomach area, a crush convulsion injury often seen in car crush victims, and extensive bruising under the skin of her face. There was also a bruise in the shape of a sneaker print on the back of the brain. On the back of the brain? Oh, wow.
00:13:28
minorsofmayhem
There were 18 pebbles found in Reena's lungs, meaning she was alive when she entered the water, and Reena's cause of death was drowning. A total of eight teenagers were arrested. Six girls, including Nicole, were charged with aggravated assault for the attack that took place under the bridge. Warren and Kelly would be tried as adults. The other girls were not were not tried as adults, so their identity was protected. um Now, 16-year-old Warren Golotsky was a troubled teenager. His mom was an alcoholic who was never around. And his dad actually left him for a woman he met in a Vegas casino and moved to California. I'll figure. So he was living with friends at the time of this murder. Warren admitted to not really knowing Raina, but still joined in on the beating. The next day, he went to his girlfriend's house and asked her to help get the blood out of his pants.
00:14:27
minorsofmayhem
When police arrested him, he admitted to following Reyna with Kelly and quote, something happened. Kelly did something to her, unquote. Spring of 1999, Warren had a swift trial without a jury and was sentenced to life with a possibility of parole after seven years. In prison, Warren avoided trouble, volunteered to speak to at-risk teenagers, he was involved in restorative justice programs, and he even met with Reina's parents to apologize and they accepted. Sumon Verk told reporters, quote, of all they accused in this whole process, Warren was the only one who has taken responsibility for his actions, unquote.
00:15:16
minorsofmayhem
During Kelly's interview in trial, she said that she, quote, had no doubt that Reena's killer could have been Nicole. She was always saying sick stuff, just weird, demented stuff. She wanted to bury someone. Nicole thinks it's considered cool if you hurt people and it's not. It makes you seem like a thug, unquote. But police found a black nylon Calvin Klein jacket with saltwater stains that were consistent with the water from the gorge. Kelly tried saying it was from another day when she went swimming in the cold water. But numerous teenagers gave statements of Kelly bragging that she, quote, finished her off and held a girl's head underwater. Oh, God. Kelly chalked these statements up to high school rumors.
00:16:09
minorsofmayhem
Kelly was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. However, Kelly has day parole. What? She has day parole. For what? Day parole in Canada is a form of a release that allows prisoners to participate in public activities during the day while still requiring them to return to a prison or halfway house each night. In
Controversial Parole and Justice Debate
00:16:35
minorsofmayhem
prison... I gotta take a drink alone. How is that a punishment? How how does... Okay. Yeah.
00:16:46
minorsofmayhem
It's... Warren also was on Daypearl, which... I would feel more comfortable giving him Daypearl than... He took responsibility for what he did. Right. And that doesn't make it right. No, it doesn't. But Kelly, I feel... doesn't deserve that kind of freedom. No. It sounded to me like she was trying to pass it off on Nicole. Yeah. OK. In prison, Kelly continued to preach her innocence but behaved erratically. She would have a stash of toothbrushes for makeshift shivs, was on a crystal meth binge for a year. How? Conjure brand.
00:17:36
minorsofmayhem
Okay. But once she turned 30, she quit drugs and got a job in the prison library when she made a pen pal with Darwin. Now remember, she has day parole. In October 2016, she was eight months pregnant with her son. The following February, during her parole hearing, she took responsibility for her actions for the murder and that having her son was quote, very motivating and the best therapy for me, unquote. Now, I didn't put this in here, but Darwin is an ex felon with ah like, he had ties with gangs. So I'm sure he doesn't have a very good record either.
00:18:29
minorsofmayhem
So even though Kelly was quick to turn on Nicole, she refused to testify against Kelly saying, quote, do I look like I have a tail? Unquote. And told police, we don't talk about murder. We just talk about cigarettes and makeup. We don't talk about violence. Nicole was only sentenced to a year in juvie for aggravated assault. Later in life, she worked as a dancer for strip clubs and left her hometown to tour. Wow, okay. Isn't that nuts?
00:19:12
minorsofmayhem
I don't think either one of them should have gotten daperoom. Not at all. That makes zero sense to me. Oh yeah, run free during the day, but we're going to lock you up at night. So what? They sleep at night. What kind of freaking punishment is that for taking somebody's life? You'll always have a roof over your head, but you can go do whatever you want. During the day. During the day. Drugs, get pregnant. No, that is- She still has custody of her kids. That is absolutely the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. Yeah.
00:19:50
minorsofmayhem
yeah I was not a fan of this. I feel like Reena was cheated out of justice. Granted, they are serving time and all of that, but that's not justice. What what did you say? when When does Kelly and Nicole get out? They're still in. ah Yeah, right. But are they ever going to get out? They've had parole hearings. And they get denied?
00:20:22
minorsofmayhem
and denied they just get So if they're not good enough to be released on parole,
Impact of Bullying in Schools
00:20:29
minorsofmayhem
why are we letting them out during the day? I don't know. That's a wonderful question. I mean work release like maybe for less violent crimes. But murder, they took a life. They they should have zero rights whatsoever. I was never gonna be able to have. Day parole, she can't come she back to earth for. She can't have a baby, why should she have a baby? I know, exactly. I don't understand that at all. I don't. There is no justice in this case. far I don't think so either. No, not at all. I don't.
00:21:10
minorsofmayhem
Was she have was she heavier? Is that why they kick? She was more broad shouldered. hu And she had quite a manly look to her. um But I don't.
00:21:32
minorsofmayhem
But I don't think that's enough to be bullied for. No, not at all. I mean, there's plenty of women that have broad shoulders. Yeah. Like it's, and I think she was, I think she might've been quite tall. I can't, I can't remember. Probably a hard work and fool. She just, wow. But you know, those high school years, she couldn't make friends and she got in with the wrong crowd. And well, she got in with the only people that would,
00:22:10
minorsofmayhem
Let her in. You don't have much choices when you're bullied like that. Is it lagging again? Why? Why is this? Yeah, it's lagging again. um Well, maybe it'll be okay on the replay. Hopefully.
Listener Pop Quiz
00:22:29
minorsofmayhem
So now I promised a pop quiz question to um to have a chance to win some of our miners of mayhem merch. So here it is and I want your opinions on it. um If you can name the movie that was based on this case and bonus points for like seeing the movie too. So like say I haven't seen the movie and I went in and told you the name of the movie but another person emailed us
00:23:08
minorsofmayhem
saying they've seen it and named the movie, that person that would that person would win because bonus points for seeing it. I don't even know. huh I don't even know the name of the movie. And I am sure I haven't seen it. And I'm talking about the actual movie, not like the documentary. documentary So there was a movie made about this. Yes. Now I'm going to have to go watch it. Yes. Do you know what platform it's on or should we not say that? Uh, you'll have to figure it out myself. Okay. Cool. Cool. I don't like your case. I, I wasn't a fan of it either. You know, they, there's no justice. Her death was for no reason other than she had a different appearance than everybody else and didn't fit in yeah high school.
00:24:08
minorsofmayhem
can They can be little assholes, I'm not gonna lie. yeah that And you know that still goes on at this day and age.
Current Bullying Case Discussion
00:24:17
minorsofmayhem
Oh, I know. There was result just recently, I haven't looked quite into the whole story yet, but teenagers bullied this girl to death and they silenced the mom.
00:24:37
minorsofmayhem
Court ordered, silenced the mom because she was going on social media preaching how it's not okay that this happened and the bullying got to her. Like, oh, yeah. Oh, wow. I'll have to send you a couple to see. I do talks. I don't know if something happened or, um, but she was only 14 years old. So she was 14, Warren was 16. How old was Nicole and Kelly? Kelly was 15 and Nicole was 14, I believe. 15 and 14. And what a brutal death. to beat She was beaten up, basically. And then they finished it with drowning. but She might have been unconscious by then. She was unconscious when they drug her to the water.
00:25:32
minorsofmayhem
that was her only saving grace there for not feeling the panic of not being able to breathe but oh my god what she went through that is um that's freaking pathetic and shame on shame on them and they're just they get to live life that's bullshit now um same with Eli like um i don't know if somebody said something to him or what but i overheard dad telling him Now, if anybody calls you a girl, you look at them and you tell them, I'm a boy, because he has long hair. And he likes pink. And he likes pink. So he's still the most manly little boy I've ever met in my life,
Challenging Gender Norms
00:26:13
minorsofmayhem
regardless of pink being a color that he likes. But I always tell him he's tough enough to wear pink. I tell him that all the time. Pink is for, you know, a number of things.
00:26:27
minorsofmayhem
He likes. Whoever made like pink is for girls and blue is for boys. Is bullshit. Like gender reveal stuff, whatever. I get that. But. After that. My husband even has pink shirts. So does mine. Yeah, it's like and then his hair. His hair is long. It looks so good in a half up man bun. I mean, his hair is beautiful. Yeah. yeah but I will trim though. He's got some dead ends. Oh, good luck getting him in a chair. I can hardly get him to shower. I know me too. Are you kidding me? No. He's a 10 year old little shit. I don't like your case at all. Sorry. Sorry. So where did you camp for? Were you a hitter? Yeah, we were a hitter. Well, so okay. So we started anybody that doesn't want to hear the banter. It's time to leave.
00:27:24
minorsofmayhem
Bye. Bye. I love you. Okay. What now? Um so we started out at uh partial bay.
Camping and Solitude
00:27:33
minorsofmayhem
Uh-huh. But there where we normally camp. Uh-huh. The perimeter. Yeah. Pretty much all full. So we got a kind of an isolated spot in the park. It wasn't isolated enough. Park camping is not for us. If that's what you like, I'm happy for you. I hate tort you park camping. But park camping was not for me and my husband. Us either. Hate it. We go camping to get away from people, to get away from the noise, to get away from from life and just take a step back, have a little reset.
00:28:19
minorsofmayhem
And park camping is just like a little city. So he got off Thursday evening. He got home about four or five, and me and the little one were already out there. And i I hated it. And I was like, well, once my husband gets here, like it'll be fine. like I'll be with him, and we'll have a great time. We weren't even there 20 minutes sitting in our chairs and there was so much noise. I looked over at my husband and I was like, do you want to go home and play Fortnite because I hate this. I thought it was going to be better when you got here. It's not. And he's like, Oh, thank God. He's like, I was, I don't like it. And it would have sucked. Like if I would have liked it and he hated it, or if he liked it and I hated it, it would have been like, Oh, what do you do?
00:29:13
minorsofmayhem
but he was not a fan of it either. So we came home, we grabbed what we needed from the camper. Mind you, we had to pay for the spot. You just left the camper there? Yeah, we left the camper there. Cause it was seven o'clock at night by the time. So you just abandoned ship. We abandoned, like we grabbed it. What we needed out of the camper came home and then early Friday morning, we went back out to the camper. hooked up or actually I drove out to Hiddenwood to see if anybody was out there, came home, packed everything, went and got the camper, and went to Hiddenwood. I hate part, we part camp once a year, and that's for his his reunion with his battle buddies. But that wasn't as bad.
00:30:05
minorsofmayhem
I hate park camping. That wasn't as bad because like you had that whole like road section yes to everybody you knew. Right. Where we were, there was a tree row, but we were on the corner and the boat ramp was over here. So there was people we could see here and the golf carts driving around. I love kids. I love the noise that they make during the school year.
00:30:38
minorsofmayhem
I couldn't handle it. The dogs barking. I'm fine with. But when I want to camp, I want nature noises. Exactly. You want to hear the crickets at night ahha of other people. I get you. I hate park camping. Because to me, when you pull into park camping, for one thing, you're usually parked one right on top of the other. And one year when we opened up our slide, It almost hit the neighbor. And it's like, this is living in a tiny little city. Why do we want to do this? This is not camping. It is not my form of camping. I'm like you. I want wide open spaces. If my dog wants to take off and chase a rabbit. Yes. I'm exactly the same. I hate it. I'll never do it again.
00:31:31
minorsofmayhem
My kids didn't make it very long on that trail ride. Really? No. So Eli rode behind me for quite a while, and then he got on a wagon. Because his legs were hurting. Said he felt like he was in a permanent splits. Poor little guy. Poor filler. Because he rode in the buddy saddle behind me. Oh, he's so little. He's so little, and my horse is not da slim by any means. He might have a little winter weight on him. and Our daughter, she did really great, really great, but she was hurting bad because Charlie lost a lot of weight over the winter.

00:32:11
minorsofmayhem
So he's a little more bony than she remembered and she rides bareback. Yeah. Yeah. She was hurting. In fact, hurting so bad that she rode chrome for a while just to give her body a break. And I had to ride him bareback for a while. Oh no. Yeah.
00:32:31
minorsofmayhem
At least you guys had fun. Oh yeah, we had a good time. I had a good time. I was tired. I found out that my horses will stay in a one-strand fence, which is exciting because we don't have to tie to the trailer anymore. yeah And of course, I went home and ordered that all on Amazon. I don't know if you looked at the orders, but i was like what is mom doing now? ah Mom ordered her shower system for the back of my horse trailer. So we are all hooked up. We've got a sink and toilet in the trailer. That's awesome. We got our bed. We have a three in one breakfast maker with a cloth pot. We have our shower set up for the back. And I was going to buy myself my own suitcase generator. And dad's like, you only camp with the horse trailer in the summertime.
00:33:23
minorsofmayhem
I only use the suitcase generator in the wintertime. Why are you buying a generator? You can use this one. And I'm like, oh, I just didn't want to wear out your ice fishing generator. But he said, no, you don't need to buy a generator. You can just use this one. That's nice. So we don't have to buy, I don't have to buy a generator. Yeah, I see that tank. Does it take two of you to get that thing up there? It did. That is a big generator. yeah Is it got the wheels system? Yeah, it's got the wheels. Well, now now I will not let my husband go to mine. Yeah, but wait a minute now. You now feel how he feels when we are turned loose together on shopping trips.
00:34:13
minorsofmayhem
We haven't had a shopping trip in years. But we have had. and we come home with a lot of shit that we don't need. And we overextend, especially when we go to Ulta. No. Oh, come on. Come on now. When you leave Ulta, it's the stuff you need. Lies. It's not a want. Lies. It's a need. No, it's lies. oh I'm kind of getting out of the makeup right now.

Well, I'm not mad about it, but like, I used to wake up, drink a cup of coffee, and then get another cup of coffee, go into my bathroom, sit down, turn on a podcast, and do my makeup. Now, I go in there and I'm like, oh, this seems like work now. That month off did you good. so and It made me more comfortable with what I look like naturally. And I'm not spending as much money on makeup. But I and don't know what to do with my hands now. and like Work on a case. so like i Yeah, I should.
00:35:49
minorsofmayhem
What do you do for mean? The so makeup thing was like my thing for myself. When I quit smoking that time? That's all I did. Because I needed something to do with my hands. Yeah. I sat up and did my makeup for hours. Yeah. It's fun. Just because I needed something to do. Excuse me. It's so It's so fun. I love it. Oh my gosh. So what else is new?
