minorsofmayhem
off? This is our two parter that we left to hang in for a hot minute because life just kind of happens. Well, it's summertime. Hopefully, I think we're gonna try to do like two to three episodes like but not release that way we have some stored in the back where we can upload where we can go on our horse riding trips and our camping trips and still upload an episode which means we're gonna have to like like maybe during one of the school breaks really put our nose to it and each do three something yeah for sure you that it will be but
00:02:50
minorsofmayhem
you know I hate leaving them hanging for so long. Well, people on the other side that that the research involved is astronomical. I mean, it's not just... when i have When I do my research, I have 10 tabs open, plus I'm on my phone. Yeah, me too. It's like, oh my, and my Kindle. And then there's so many there's so much contradicting information that you've got to jump down two different rabbit holes to see which one makes more sense or which one seems more to the truth or which one you can confirm and yeah. Yeah. It's not just, ooh, I'm gonna pick this case and do it. It is nose to the grind court testimony. Oh yeah. It goes on and on. It goes on and on and on. Okay.

Introduction to Clear Lake Murders

00:03:38
minorsofmayhem
So we, this is part two to the Clear Lake murders. um I'm gonna give you guys a little recap.
00:03:46
minorsofmayhem
We went to Clear Lake, I'm gonna find my tongue first. We were in Clear Lake City, Texas in the year 2003, is what we went back to. And we were following chris <unk> Christine story. Remember she had lost her father when she was two to a tragic accident, work accident. Then her grandparents and her great grandparents or whatever died.
00:04:16
minorsofmayhem
Her mother became really, really, really addicted to drugs, and she lost custody. um
00:04:27
minorsofmayhem
Christine had developed alopecia totalis, which means no hair anywhere. Oh yeah, and then the popular girls really accepted her. and Rachel and Tiffany. Yeah, Rachel and Tiffany. They took, well, mom cleaned up and regained custody. And so Christine went to a new school,
00:04:47
minorsofmayhem
And christina or Rachel and Tiffany took Christine under the wing, taught them taught her how to apply makeup, how to do her eyebrows, how to dress, how to dress how to style her wigs. They really took her under the wing. And then- Did we get into the crime? We did. We got into the

The Cold Case Details

00:05:10
minorsofmayhem
murders.
00:05:10
minorsofmayhem
so um
00:05:16
minorsofmayhem
After they became so close, Tiffany and Rachel and a boyfriend and another cousin of the boyfriend, I believe, were gunned down in their home, leaving Christine to face life alone again, except she was dating Christopher Snyder, if you remember correctly. So yeah, Marcus.
00:05:45
minorsofmayhem
marcus and shot and beat adult at Adelbert yep Adelbert um and if you guys remember right the case had actually went cold for three years so we left off with um a composite sketch being made and yeah because uh
00:06:16
minorsofmayhem
Tiffany was shot, Marcus, and that guy, and then Rachel was shot, but she had the... um She was the most severely injured. Yeah, she was beaten to death. She was pistol ripped to death after she had been shot ye several times. Yep. And then Christina's dating Christopher, who was 21, and Shady.

Christine's Downward Spiral

00:06:43
minorsofmayhem
Yep.
00:06:45
minorsofmayhem
so
00:06:48
minorsofmayhem
If you guys, hopefully that's a good enough of a recap. If not, go back and listen to the first episode. So we decided for this episode, we were gonna step away from the murder and see what Christine was up to for the following three years without her best friends. Oh yeah, because this case went cold. Yeah, this case went cold for three years.
00:07:15
minorsofmayhem
yeah So Christine had gotten a job at Walgreens at the makeup counter and seemed to truly enjoy it. Unfortunately, she also enjoyed alcohol, weed, and popping pills. She lived all of her life with fear of her loved ones leaving and never coming back. And and it it truly happened again because Tiffany and Rachel were gone and they they couldn't come back. So she was filled up with that feeling
00:07:46
minorsofmayhem
of people that she loved leaving her.
00:07:51
minorsofmayhem
Christine wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of her life with Chris. Other than her family, he was basically all that she had loved. And in the fall, Christine was back in school for her senior year and really truly looking forward to the day that she turned 18, which is when she would collect a small fortune from her father's accidental death injur insurance.
00:08:18
minorsofmayhem
Christine didn't have anyone close to her during her final year in high school. Rachel and Tiffany were always there for Christine. Now she faced everything basically on her own. She started to struggle in her final year of school. Her grades dropped significantly compared to the prior year and she was also picked up for shoplifting.
00:08:40
minorsofmayhem
And just on a side note, I didn't put this in here, but she actually struggled so hard in school that she didn't have enough credits for graduation. So she did walk for graduation, but she was given an empty folder. There was no diploma in there.
00:09:02
minorsofmayhem
um And her plan was actually to go to summer school to get the credits that she needed. Now whether or not she did that, we'll get there.
00:09:18
minorsofmayhem
She was picked up, did I say she was picked up for shoplifting? Okay. She basically got out of that with basically a talking to because she was a minor, you know, first offense kind of thing.
00:09:32
minorsofmayhem
On another occasion, Christine attacked her stepfather and the police were actually called because this fight came about when Christine wanted to leave home to be with Chris and Lori had called the cops. In fact, her biggest complaint was that Christine had been ignoring curfews and basically was doing whatever she pleased. She was just on that, I don't give a damn kick. I'm going to do what I want. Kiss on you.
00:10:02
minorsofmayhem
Tom and Laurie really blamed all of her behaviors on Chris Snyder, but Chris's family viewed things opposite. They claimed Chris stated that there was only two things in life that he was afraid of. That was the cops and Christine. Chris was with them? Yep.

A Breaking Point

00:10:20
minorsofmayhem
Either way, they wouldn't be together much longer because Chris had a warrant for his arrest in Kentucky. He had stolen a car and took off for a while while he was staying with family.
00:10:30
minorsofmayhem
so When Texas offer officers ran his name when he was picked up for shoplifting, the Kentucky warrant came up and he would be handed over to Kentucky authorities to face these charges, which actually was going to be jail time. Christine wanted to go to to Kentucky to be close to Chris, but her parents were not going to live. That happened. I mean, she's still only 17. She's not going to.
00:11:00
minorsofmayhem
They're not going to let that happen. Right. You're not going to pack up and follow your degenerate boyfriend to another state because he's serving time. I get it. Yeah. I get it. But it sounds like she was kind of out of control. The tension between parent and parents and child was escalating. And once again, the police were called upon their arrival. Christine was out of control and being held down on the floor by her stepfather, Tom.
00:11:30
minorsofmayhem
Because her parents refused to let her go see Chris in Kentucky, Tom had basically stopped her at the door. She was trying to go out and Tom stopped her at the door, not letting her go. They weren't going to let her go. You know, she's still a minor. Um,
00:11:54
minorsofmayhem
I lost my place. Stopped her at the door. She actually ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife and she put it to her wrist as if she was going to hurt herself. And Tom yelled at her to stop. And she actually pointed the knife at him in a threatening manner. She held it above her head and pointed it at him. I got a cough. Excuse me.
00:12:21
minorsofmayhem
Sorry. When she lowered the knife, Tom was able to grab ahold of her and pin her down so she couldn't hurt herself or him or Lori. That makes sense. Tom and Lori didn't want Christine charged. They just wanted her to get help. So Christine was transported to a hospital for psychiatric treatment. She was then court ordered. Hi Bernice. She was in court ordered to a drug rehab facility in San Antonio.
00:12:55
minorsofmayhem
It was at one of her 12 step meetings that she would meet. And this is in Pennsylvania, right? No, Texas. Really? Yeah. Oh, okay. Can you get a fix? So at one of her 12 step meetings, she would meet Stanley Justin Rott, who goes by Justin. Justin had been in the Marine Corps but failed a drug test after using cocaine while on leave and was discharged obviously not honorable um honorably. honorably
00:13:41
minorsofmayhem
Even though there was a seven-year age gap between Justin and Christine, they had many things in common including music, movies and trying to live a sober life. Did you say seven years? Yeah. I thought she was 17 and he was 21. Are you not listening? Yeah. Christopher's in jail. Right. She met Justin Rott at a 12th. I thought you just said Christopher.
00:14:08
minorsofmayhem
new Did I? I don't know. Stanley Justin Rott. Is that not what I said? Oh, Stanley Justin. At one of her 12-step meetings, she met Justin Rott. His role name is Stanley Justin Rott, but he goes by Justin. He'd been in the Marine Corps and failed a drug test okay while on leave. And he was not honorably discharged. Got it. All right. And there was a seven-year gap.
00:14:37
minorsofmayhem
But they had lots in common, including music, movies, and trying to live a sober life. Their relationship moved along like at Lightning McQueen speed. Yeah. That's fast. Yeah. fuck bu And just weeks after meeting, the two were actually engaged. Wow. When I say lightning speed, I say I meant lightning speed here. Yeah.
00:15:06
minorsofmayhem
After much talk, they decided to forego a traditional wedding and were married by H.A.P., Justice of Peace. By this time, k Christine was 18, so married and $360,000 in the bank. Christine and Justin left their halfway houses to start their life. 360,000? Yep, and this was back in 2006. Three of us? Well, the murders were all three, so it would be two to three years later so oh five oh six somewhere in there that would be oh how wow that's a lot it's more than a quarter of a million for uh an 18 year old an 18 year old yes that is yeah it's not very helpful in this case o so their plan was to move to friendswood buy a condo and get on with their life
00:16:01
minorsofmayhem
they would they would just stay in a hotel until they found their forever home, which they would find and purchase in Webster, Texas. On the two year anniversary of the Clear Lake murders, the news ran a story and the composite sketches were again, you know, put up on the screen. And when Christine saw the composite sketches, she had a weird reaction to that.
00:16:27
minorsofmayhem
She started pacing back and forth and saying, oh my, oh my, oh my. She started crying and asked Justin if the sketch looked like her.

Ties to the Murders

00:16:40
minorsofmayhem
It didn't take a rocket scientist scientists for Justin to figure out that his new wife was either involved or had knowledge about the clearly murders.
00:16:57
minorsofmayhem
It wasn't long after that. I think, I think hurricane Katrina hit first and then followed by hurricane Rita. But Rita would force Justin and Christine to safer ground, which they found in Arlington, Texas with Justin's parents. There had been no exact moment, but the heroin demon reared its ugly head and Justin and Christine slipped back into full blown addiction.
00:17:25
minorsofmayhem
with money in the bank, their dog, and some belongings, they were in no hurry to return to their home. So instead, they would head to where they could get the best drugs from an already known connection, and that would be San Antonio. It's safe to say that they were on a path of destruction. Around this time, Crime Stoppers, stop the, okay, you can fill in that gap and we'll take the time. Crime Stoppers? Crime Stoppers.
00:17:55
minorsofmayhem
Never heard of them. Water. Around this time, Crime Stoppers received an anonymous call. And the call claimed that while Chris, Chris, I am struggling today.
00:18:16
minorsofmayhem
Too much fresh air? Struggling. Struggling. Why? Driving the struggle bus. Oh, I love it. but three I thought I always drove the short bus though. Struggle bus, short bus, what's the difference to me? As long as there's crayons and windshield wipers to chase, I'm golden. Just give me my helmet, okay? Can I lick the windows? I will lick the windows. Okay, this anonymous caller claimed that while Chris Snyder was drunk one night, he told the caller that him and his girlfriend killed the four people in Clear Lake.
00:18:53
minorsofmayhem
the caller didn't know the last name of the girlfriend but her first name was Christine.
00:19:00
minorsofmayhem
Another anonymous caller claimed he recognized the girl in the sketch from a rehab facility and that she had bragged about participating in the murder of four people and went on to describe the murders in detail including that one of the victims was killed while trying to dial 911. Wow. Now that piece of information was crucial. It was something that detectives had not revealed to the public. You know, one of those close to the chest things? Yup. The anonymous caller identified the girl in the sketch as that of 20-year-old Christine Paolila. And when detectives pulled up Christine's driver's license photo, it was an exact match to the composite sketch.
00:19:47
minorsofmayhem
Huh, I wonder why she was pacing. You think? Oh my, oh my. In the meantime, Justin and Christine are in the throes of a heroin addiction.

Descent into Addiction

00:20:03
minorsofmayhem
I mean, they were spending anywhere from $500 to $1,000 a day. Wow. On heroin. Wow. Could you imagine?
00:20:15
minorsofmayhem
I cringe when I have to spend $500 on groceries that pisses me off. $500 to $1,000 a day for a fix? For a little high?
00:20:29
minorsofmayhem
feel That's rough. $1,000? $500 to $1,000 a day. Damn. To support their drug habit. well Oh, the things I could buy with $1,000 a day would just blow.
00:20:45
minorsofmayhem
I don't even think I could. Well, I could. Oh, I could. Okay.
00:20:53
minorsofmayhem
okay If somebody, if I had to work for that thousand dollars, no, it would never happen. Right. But if somebody said, Hey, here's a thousand dollars a day, see what you can do with it, dude, I could have a blast. I could. I would have. I am guilty about it i would feel guilty too.
00:21:11
minorsofmayhem
I would. I wouldn't spend it on myself though. I'd spend it on my husband and kids. Oh, not me. I would spread the happiness around my whole household. Yeah. Uh, including myself. Yeah. What is something that I really, really, really would like to have? I asked my husband the other day for like $250. It's like, for what? And I was like, my Teemu cart. He's like, no.
00:21:42
minorsofmayhem
And I'm like, aw. I don't know. I don't know what I would do with $1,000 a day to just... A day? they See, that's that's what's catching me. I'm like, $1,000 a day? Could I do it? I'd probably buy a lot of groceries. You know how hard I work? Yeah. dirt Yeah. I work too hard to throw money away like that. Yeah. I'll tell you what, though. But addiction is...
00:22:11
minorsofmayhem
like once a thousand dollars a day i would hoard that and when i hit i can tell you what i'd have my dream horse well i have my dream horse right now but my next horse after this dream horse is probably going to be a gypsy manor or a freesian i guarantee you that would be in my pasture just saying hello come ride me right i have my dream horse chrome right now but Um, all the kids seem to like to ride him. So every time I turn around, I'm losing my horse. I got good pictures. All the kids are at North Bay too for you. Yeah. So via the ATM records, the detectives were able to track Christine to a shady hotel in San Antonio. Now what they found.
00:23:08
minorsofmayhem
What they found in that hotel room was nothing short of appalling. The room was absolutely disgusting. There was hundreds of heroin needles littered throughout the room on the floor, just everywhere. Oh my God. There was a fine mist of blood covering everything, including the walls.
00:23:31
minorsofmayhem
from, you know, injections. There was just, there was a blood mist as well. I don't know if that would happen. Well, I suppose, I mean, I know nothing. Look at, I got... Wouldn't it just be very close? Wouldn't it just be like taking blood? No. I suppose they, I mean, they probably collapsed. Their veins were probably junk. I don't know how that works. Dude, you're also my wrong person. I am not an addict. Me neither.
00:24:00
minorsofmayhem
No. Eli gives me my shot once a week for the love of God. If I had to give myself a shot like in the vein, I would i would be the worst junkie in the whole wide world. Dude, I can barely take a painkiller like when i when I had my foot surgery. I can't remember what he gave me. but um It was brutal. It made me so sick. I think it was hydroxy. Which one is stronger of the two? Oxy, I think. I think that's the one who prescribed me. I think I took it for like a day and then I stopped and I went back to the doctor and I was like, I can't have something this strong. Like, it's making me sick. I puked and puked and puked. I'd be a terrible junkie. Oh gosh. i
00:24:56
minorsofmayhem
You know, after I've had, I've had a couple surgeries and actually they tell you at the hospital to stand, to instead of chasing the pain, you stay on top of the pain. Yeah. Stay on top. That's why they put you on a damn schedule. Yeah. Oh yeah. If you stay on the schedule and do what the doctors tell you.
00:25:19
minorsofmayhem
you i have not i i've been on oxycodone and oxycontin and hydrocodone i've been on that shit several times for my surgeries if you follow your doctor's advice you're you i didn't come out addicted but didn't i I think I used to in fact I don't think I ever even finished a prescription. ah That's like the first two days usually like the first day for sure you stay on top of it. yeah The second day you stay on top of it and then I kind of just yeah usually by the third day I'm done we're not taking it no more and I flush it down the down toilet. When Dean had his surgery he
00:26:03
minorsofmayhem
stayed on it the first day. And then he's like, Oh, I don't need it. And then he wasn't on top of it anymore. He's like, Oh, when you start need one. And I was like, See, I told you, you got at least two days, at least two days stay on top of it. Otherwise you will be chasing it. But by the fourth day, I think he was off of them. And he had probably Quite a few left that we got rid of. yep Down the toilet we did. Right, yeah, down the toilet. I flushed mine down the toilet. But usually yeah usually by the by the third or fourth day, I'm done. We're on a tangent though. ah Who cares? Tylenol works for me. But anyway.
00:26:49
minorsofmayhem
Um, so the mist of blood covering everything, if anybody knows why that occurs, I'm sure they were blowing veins left and right. I mean, don't grab me one. Don't they collapse? I mean, when you're, what happens when you're, talking about like what happens when your veins get junky? I don't know. I have good veins. I know. I have good. Well, mine roll, um but other than that, they're good. Mine don't roll. Mine do. I don't know why.
00:27:18
minorsofmayhem
That's when I go give blood, I tell them you've got one shot. If you can't get it in the first shot, I'm done because I will pass out on you. But apparently in the drug-induced state, they didn't bother to take the dog outside because there was dog shit and piss covering the floor. no And they appeared to be living basically on Ritz crackers and Reese's peanut butter cups. And thank you for ruining that for me because you all are assholes. Those are two of my favorite things.
00:27:49
minorsofmayhem
When interrogated, Christine was quick to shift all of the blame to Chris Schneider.
00:27:58
minorsofmayhem
Detectives were able to get in contact with Chris Schneider's parents who informed them that Chris was actually living in South Carolina. Unfortunately, someone tipped off Chris that the detectives were on their way to question him and Chris actually disappeared. Oh well, they never found him?
00:28:17
minorsofmayhem
He left behind all of his belongings, including his wallet and his car.
00:28:25
minorsofmayhem
It wouldn't be long after that, that his body would be found not far from his home. About five days later, I think it was.

Conviction and Motive Speculation

00:28:34
minorsofmayhem
and He had taken a lethal dose of painkillers rather than facing the consequences of his actions three years prior. What, coward? Not only is that cowardly, we will never know the whole story because there's only want one story. yeah Because everybody in that house is dead. Except Christine. In the house where Chris is staying,
00:29:03
minorsofmayhem
They located two handguns, a 38 and a 9 millimeter. They were tested and proved to be the weapons used in the murders. Oh. There was still traces of Rachel's blood on the 9 millimeter. Dang. After Christine pistol whipped with her. Three or four years. Well, that's the one that we Rachel was pistol whipped with.
00:29:27
minorsofmayhem
In October of 2008, Christine was convicted of four counts of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison with minimum time in jail of 40 years. The motive in this case will never be known for sure, because like I said, there's only one person. Speculation are drugs, money, jealousy, or all three.
00:29:52
minorsofmayhem
Drugs, money, jealousy. Why would you be jealous us of the girls that helped you? Because Christine had many, many, many problems. She was very insecure. Right. Very controlling. I think narcissism maybe a little bit.
00:30:16
minorsofmayhem
and But that's my case, you got questions? You got anything? um what What did, where is she at today? She's still in jail. Absolutely. Is she still married to Justin? Or did he file for divorce? Divorce. I think they divorced in 09. She was convicted in 08 and they were divorced by 09. Did he know? He did not.
00:30:45
minorsofmayhem
that she did that? He did not. what He did not know right away. but Until it came out? Until after. like um She had started saying things.
00:31:01
minorsofmayhem
and then And then one drug-induced night, she did tell. And then it started making sense to him. But he never called it in or anything.
00:31:13
minorsofmayhem
just This is why they were drug-induced. I mean, does he know that she's telling the truth? He's not in his right mind either at the time. you know I don't know what it's like to be in a drug-induced mind, so I'm like, well, just confess. I don't claim to understand. They might be in a different hole ah whole different universe. Yeah. I don't claim to know anything about addiction.

Addiction Discussion

00:31:42
minorsofmayhem
I just- We're addicted to nicotine. Yes I am. I know what that feels like when I don't have any. Yeah. I'm sure it's similar. It's probably 20 times worse. Maybe? I don't That's the statistics.
00:32:03
minorsofmayhem
Statistics. Don't they say that nicotine is harder to quit than hard drugs? Well, I know when my dad was in the hospital and he was so we're addicted to cigarettes that his doctor would prefer to get him addicted to heroin because he said it would be easier to get him off heroin than it would nicotine. Now, that is just what I know from what one doctor had said to my father. I don't know if there's any truth to that. I don't have a clue.
00:32:39
minorsofmayhem
That's just what that doc said. So um anybody that doesn't want to banter, exit stage left, stage right, whichever stage you want to go.
00:32:52
minorsofmayhem
Floor's open. What you got, Heifer? I don't really have anything. We just talked about what I had. That's all you had? Yeah. I mean, I left you hanging for like forever on this case, and that's all you have. Well, I kind of figured it out when in part one that she had done it but I didn't know like Christopher went to jail and then when he got released he ended up offing himself well yeah I wonder wonder I wonder what well that's all it's gonna be is what or wonder because he's not here to tell his side
00:33:40
minorsofmayhem
but I wonder like what he all did.
00:33:46
minorsofmayhem
You know what I mean? I know that Christine was the one that did Rachel. Yeah. good man In fact. That'd be sad, like killing your best friends. I have something written down about Rachel here in my notes. Yeah, the hand that's in front of you.
00:34:10
minorsofmayhem
They took you in, helped you, taught you how to feel pretty and be confident. yeah Pretty messed up there, bruh. What's up with her hair? I had this written down somewhere. What's it about?
00:34:32
minorsofmayhem
um
00:34:35
minorsofmayhem
About Rachel. About Rachel? Yeah. but her death or gotta figure out where i put oh Oh, I don't know. You know me and my notes, they're usually everywhere, but where I want them to be. That's me too. Like when I write something, like you should look it through all of this. It's just scratch marks. It says here.
00:35:02
minorsofmayhem
In my notes, why I didn't incorporate it in is beyond me, but it says, Christine beat Rachel to death while Rachel was attempting to dial 911. The last thing Rachel said was, quote, why are you doing this to me, unquote. And Christine just kept pistol whipping Rachel until she was dead. I think you said that she was trying to dial 911 earlier, but I didn't think that said would.

That was last weekend or weekend before. Last weekend. Well, so we, it was last weekend because Um, it was just a couple of days before school started. Yeah. That was fun. So I was up for 36 hours straight and I had a 30 minute nap from seven 30 to eight AM. So I was up for a very long time and then at eight o'clock.

I just got up, got breakfast, had coffee, and I was like, there's no sense in me going back to sleep. Yeah. Because Leland, he didn't sleep. Oh, wink. Oh, please. And then I thought he was going to, you know, but so that whole week, really, I thought he was going to be so exhausted from the hospital that he would sleep. Well,

I was very wrong because he ended up getting constipated. So at night he would be so ticked that he was up probably every two hours. so So it took me about a week to get caught up on sleep finally. Yeah. Leave it to the tur turd turd. No that was two weeks ago because he was still on ESY.
00:39:39
