Introduction to Gut Health and Autism

00:00:01
Speaker
Hi, Christian Jardinov here. Today I want to talk to you about a topic that I think we just cannot over emphasize the importance of, and that is
00:00:17
Speaker
the state or the health of your child's gut function or autistic children in general. Now, if you've been following my podcast for a bit or you have my book or whatever, or you've watched any of my courses, you know, this is a major thing and it's the one thing that
00:00:41
Speaker
many practitioners believe should be your most important priority in terms of improving in order to really help your child be their best thrive, right? And that's what this is all about. That's what my information is all about, how to help

Identifying Health Impediments

00:01:00
Speaker
you help your child to thrive. And what you need to do to achieve this is to remove
00:01:10
Speaker
Identify and remove the impediments to health that your child has. And believe you me, most people have these impediments to health, some subset of them, right? Most people. I'm not just talking about autistic children. I'm talking about children in general, people in general, adults, everybody, whether or not they have a condition, disease, diagnosis, or not, they have a bunch of these things in this world that we live in.
00:01:39
Speaker
Um, it's just the, the, the diets, the, the pollution, the toxic exposure. There's so many things, the levels of stress, right? So we all have these problems and they're particularly, um, seem to be magnified in autistic children. Right. Uh, if you've, let me just, in case

Free Health Courses and Resources

00:02:00
Speaker
you haven't watched any of my courses, check out the link below.
00:02:05
Speaker
in the description, you sign up to my free member platform. You will get three video courses instantly for free, like I said. And one of them is the health challenges that autistic children
00:02:20
Speaker
experience. There's about 60, 63 videos there that go through all of the most important things you need to know about the stuff that could be going on in your child with your child. There's also a course on nutrient supplementation, the most important supplements that most of these autistic kids should be taking on a daily basis and some as targeted support for specific things.
00:02:48
Speaker
And there's a course on how to do the gluten-free, casein-free diet well. And the key word here is to do it well, right? Not just to do it, but to do it well in order to get the maximum

Consulting Services for Child Health

00:03:00
Speaker
benefits. So you can get these three courses right now immediately, access to them. If you just go to my members platform that I launched recently and sign up to the free tier.
00:03:12
Speaker
And also, just to let you know, I now have much more time to focus on client work, so I am taking more clients. So if you think that you need some help in terms of helping get your child healthier, get in touch with me. I'm still doing free 15-minute consultations.
00:03:37
Speaker
Check out the link below to my website. Read a bit about it and check out the packages. I believe for the help that you get, the advice and the support that you get, I honestly believe this is probably the best money you will spend in terms of helping your child. As well as when you sign up as a client through my client portal app that you download, we also have
00:04:05
Speaker
some chat functionality there. For minor little things, I find that parents really find that useful. For example, a parent went shopping, bought a few things, and they thought, oh, this looks healthy. I've heard this is healthy.
00:04:23
Speaker
They buy a couple of things and they text me in the evening, you know, okay, I'm thinking of introducing these two, three foods tomorrow, at least one of them and over the week. And what do you think? And I look at the foods and I was like, okay, well, that's a grain.
00:04:39
Speaker
That's a nut, that's a seed, or that's very high in oxalates. I do not recommend you do that. It could be very much inflammatory, especially when there's serious

Revisiting Gut Health in Autism

00:04:50
Speaker
gut dysfunction, which, like I said, a lot of these kids have. That's the topic of today's podcast. So please check out the consulting packages. There's a lot of value there. You also
00:05:03
Speaker
If you're in Europe or the USA, you also get some good discounts and some of the best gut balancing supplements.
00:05:12
Speaker
from biobotanical research, so there's a lot of value to be had. Check it out. I know I've talked about this before, but again, I have to keep reiterating that I would say the majority of autistic children have
00:05:34
Speaker
serious, fairly serious gut related issues. When I say majority, I mean more than 50%. It could be, it easily could be more than 50%, right? Just what I have to stress is, and I keep trying to stress this when I talk to parents, is your child will not necessarily present with gastrointestinal problems
00:06:03
Speaker
if they have a gut infection or some other stuff going on, right? This is what you have to understand. You don't know. You really don't know. I cannot tell you how many people think they're very healthy that I've worked with. They might run a test or two to see, oh, I just want to check what's going on. Maybe optimize my health, you know, like the adult clients, right? Or a parent that is like, my kid is,
00:06:33
Speaker
very healthy. You know, we eat pretty well and they think they eat pretty well and stuff like that. Then we run the tests. We see the test and I break down. Okay. Well, this here shows candida. This here shows bacterial dysbiosis. This here shows high oxalates. This here shows vitamin B deficiencies. This here shows mitochondrial issues with the mitochondria, so energy production.
00:07:00
Speaker
energy production, if there's something not optimal there, it's going to cause problems with everything from the brain cognition, behavior, the gut, energy levels, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, metabolic health, blood sugar regulation. And when people see this, it's often a shock.
00:07:23
Speaker
Oh my God, I was so hell. I think I'm so healthy. I eat so well. Yeah, but look, even if you eat a perfectly healthy diet and your whole family eats that perfectly healthy organic diet and your child was born perfectly healthy and at two years of age, they were perfectly healthy.
00:07:41
Speaker
but they're playing outside and you know how kids they like put things in their mouth, they get their hands dirty, they could have gotten a parasite or you know some bacterial stuff that causes an infection. It's not necessarily, it's not your fault, it's not anybody's fault but these things can happen and again
00:08:04
Speaker
That might not show as like constipation, diarrhea, gut problems. These things don't

Research on Gut Issues and Autism

00:08:10
Speaker
necessarily, you have to understand, gut dysfunction very often manifests as behavioral things. So very obvious gut dysfunction is if your child is constipated, has diarrhea or reflux, gas, visible pain,
00:08:28
Speaker
you know burping stuff like that there's clearly something there it could be again infection dysbiosis small intestinal bacterial overgrowth so many things but if you look at in my book autism well-being plan how to get your child healthy
00:08:47
Speaker
If you haven't read the book yet, please get it. It's really one of the best resources out there for you. Several studies, as I cited in the book, have showed association between gastrointestinal problems and autism severity, greater symptoms on the various rating scales they use to diagnose autism.
00:09:10
Speaker
greater, more irritability is associated with gut problems, more anxiety is associated with gut problems, social withdrawal, gut problems again. In another study,
00:09:27
Speaker
the autistic children, not only were they more likely to have frequent gastrointestinal symptoms than the neurotypical controls in the study, but the children in the study group, the autistic study group, those that had more abdominal pain, gassiness, diarrhea, constipation, or pain when pooping,
00:09:52
Speaker
also had more higher irritability, more social withdrawal, more stereotypy, and hyperactivity when compared to the children having no gastrointestinal symptoms. And this is the way I describe it in the book. If you have pain or discomfort, you're not going to be your optimal. Your mood is not going to be as optimal. You won't be able to
00:10:21
Speaker
concentrate, learn as well as you can, right? And a lot of these kids, nobody's helping them because many of these clinicians that they go to are only looking at behavior and looking at these textbook definitions of autism and stuff like that.
00:10:42
Speaker
And they're attributing everything to the autism diagnosis, which is absolute BS. I'm telling you, this has to change because it's absolute BS. The kids are suffering and you are suffering. The parents are suffering, okay? So challenging behaviors is another thing that the research has shown.
00:11:01
Speaker
Not just irritability, it's not a challenging behavior per se, but it's a way to express gastrointestinal symptoms in an emotional or behavioral way. And other ways to do that is agitation.
00:11:21
Speaker
Also, some children should have tics, just being non-compliant, being aggressive. That's also related to, in many cases, to gut problems, gut dysfunction, self-injurious behavior as well. Sometimes, injuring yourself or hitting yourself can take that pain stimulus from a place where it hurts to another place and just kind of
00:11:49
Speaker
It's like we have this joke in Bulgaria. If a friend tells another friend, my tooth hurts, and he says, give me your thumb, and he takes his thumb and hits it with a hammer. He's like, oh my God, what are you doing? You hit my thumb with a hammer.
00:12:07
Speaker
And the friend says, well, on the bright side, you're probably not thinking about your tooth pain right now, you know? So, similar, and it's, you know, it's a joke, but it's not funny when we're talking about this stuff. If you have, there's another one with oxalates, which go back to my podcast or in my book and learn about oxalates because it's a big issue for many autistic children.
00:12:34
Speaker
Oxalate crystals can get into the eyes cause severe pain there. So autistic children that have eye poking behaviors, it could be the oxalate crystals getting in there. Okay, so this has been talked about by a prominent laboratory that does
00:12:52
Speaker
This kind of testing that's really good that I recommend the organic acids test, right? So Yeah, so gut problems are big big issue and they can again manifest in Behavior ways challenging behaviors aggression self-injurious behavior Just or just crank crankiness and so on and also they can contribute to sleep problems. So these kids are
00:13:19
Speaker
have a

Impact of Clostridium difficile

00:13:20
Speaker
lot of gut problems and like through clients I've worked with pretty much.
00:13:28
Speaker
all of the kids had some underlying issue that we basically, we had to show the parents through a test that it's there. So most common ones, again, Clostridium difficile, the bacteria, it's a nasty one. I talk about it in chapter three of my book, I believe it was chapter three. This Clostridium difficile is very common in autistic children again.
00:13:54
Speaker
And it creates compounds through its own metabolism that cause problems. One of them can inactivate an enzyme involved in breaking down dopamine, which causes a buildup of dopamine in the nervous system. And it causes an imbalance in neurotransmitters. And you know what I mean? We're talking about behavioral issues
00:14:21
Speaker
will be caused by neurotransmitter imbalances that are caused by something that was excreted by a bacteria in the gut. This is what you have to understand. These behavioral things have an underlying set of
00:14:48
Speaker
triggers, right? It's not just because of a label put on a child. Okay. And the gut is a huge source of these things. Okay. This is extremely important. I have to keep stressing this because parents, they listen to this information, but they don't seem to be internalizing it. Maybe I'm not explaining

Organic Acids Test for Gut Health

00:15:10
Speaker
it that well. Maybe people don't believe, but if you work with me,
00:15:18
Speaker
in a health consulting capacity and we run an organic acids test, which is just a simple urine collection you do at home. In the USA, it's very efficient. The sample collection kit gets sent to you, direct your door within a couple of days of us ordering it.
00:15:39
Speaker
You do the sample collection, a bit of urine in the morning, freeze it. You've called the DHL or UPS, the company to pick it up a few hours later. When they come, you just give them the box. And then a few weeks later, two, three weeks, four weeks, usually these results, we get the results and we can, and then we can see, you know, we can see, is candida an issue?
00:16:07
Speaker
or oxalates an issue. Bacterial dysbiosis, we can see antioxidant status.
00:16:17
Speaker
We can see, are your child's antioxidant system, their detoxification capacity, is being overwhelmed, which could be from nutrient inadequacies, could be from bacterial dysbiosis, all these things causing inflammation, chemical toxins, heavy metal toxins that have been overwhelming the detoxification system. So many things, right?
00:16:45
Speaker
And then of course we really analyzed the diet because I'm telling you the diet is such a big source of these problems for these children. And people think their family eats an okay diet. Most people think they eat an okay diet. I'll tell you, once we start breaking it down, most people are shocked how many of the foods they're eating
00:17:11
Speaker
are harming them. And it's not to say that these foods are necessarily harmful for all people, but for some people they can definitely be causing issues. And for the most part
00:17:24
Speaker
they are going to be plant foods. So certain plant foods have a lot of anti-nutrients and enzyme inhibitors and so on and so forth, right? Oxalates, again, these are very nasty things and high oxalates are very often high in autistic children.
00:17:44
Speaker
And yeah, so there's so many different ways to look at it. But the most important thing you need to do is if you only are able to run one test,
00:17:57
Speaker
do the organic acids test, right? And you will see again, oxalates, you will see B vitamin status, antioxidant status, you will see some neurotransmitters, you will see candida and bacterial dysbiosis, and even there's markers for fungal infection, right?
00:18:18
Speaker
that can be clues that you might have mold in your home. And there's a lot more really good information. There are mitochondrial function. This is another

Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Autism

00:18:30
Speaker
issue that many autistic children have is mitochondrial dysfunction. And a lot of these things I have to stress are quite straightforward to address. It takes time.
00:18:46
Speaker
It takes a little bit of diligence on your part, a bit of an investment in time, effort, supplements, better food. But these things, if you can find as many of these as possible quickly and address them in an expedient manner, you're just removing
00:19:06
Speaker
health challenges from your child's body that will allow them to divert more of their energy more of their vital force to growing to developing to thriving a lot of these children are not thriving guys listen you have to
00:19:23
Speaker
A lot of these children are suffering in silence and these behaviors in many cases that you are like, why is my child sulking? Why are they alone in the room? I'll tell you, we were at the pediatrician's office with my wife and my daughter a couple of months ago, I think.
00:19:45
Speaker
And we're just waiting for the mom and the kid before us to, you know, finish. And it was our turn. So this, the dude, I don't know, he was like maybe four years old and he came out of the office.
00:20:04
Speaker
And there was like a chair and a load table next to, I think it was three chairs lined up next to the door, you know, for kind of like a waiting room sort of thing. And the little dude, he came out.
00:20:21
Speaker
And he looked like a little bit pale. He didn't look like a happy camper, but he basically laid his, pressed his tummy on the chair. You know, like a lot of autistic kids actually, they do that. They're trying to
00:20:40
Speaker
get pressure on their tummy, right? So it might be on the bed or on a chair or on a table. It's kind of like lie over it and face down with their tummy on it. And that applies pressure. And I told my wife, you see that little dude doing that? That's a sign. He's got some type of gut discomfort. And it's like this pressure. It basically just kind of hits other nerves in the nervous system.
00:21:09
Speaker
Take some of that pain signal away right so a lot of these kids are you know you you you think they're acting out. Because of either whatever autism or labor ADHD or whatever.
00:21:30
Speaker
These things have physiological causes, guys. This is what really people have to understand. And it's very frustrating for me over the last three years how little of a reach my, you know, this information has gotten. And I know I've just had a lot of stuff going on that I have not been able to spend as much time
00:21:54
Speaker
as i can but um you know this is this is extremely important because there's just too many too many kids suffering out there there's too many parents that suffer because their kids suffer every like if you have if you have
00:22:14
Speaker
you know, your kid is not feeling well, or they're in a bad mood or whatever. It just changes everything for you. Like I understand that. Because since I published my book three years ago, I am now a parent also I became a parent. So a lot of these challenges people parents are facing, I can see you know, I can relate a lot better. But I'll tell you one thing right now is
00:22:44
Speaker
We have to stop making excuses, right? You need to, and I'm not saying you have to work with me, okay? If your doctor can order a stool test, like a poop test, a really good one, like the GI map or the organic acids test, yeah, do it. If you prefer working with a woman practitioner or someone in the United States, I don't care who you work with as long as you do something about your child's
00:23:14
Speaker
health challenges. And believe me, if you're listening to this podcast, let's not live in a fairy tale land. You are looking for information because you want answers and you know something is not right. And there is more than what we are being told by the current dominant medical paradigm. There is much more that we can do
00:23:41
Speaker
for these kids, right? You're searching this information. This information is all here in my book, in my courses. And for those that, you know, want to work with me, you know, get in touch, there is a lot that can be done. We have to stop
00:23:57
Speaker
Chalking everything up to a label or diagnosis. It's because of the kid is like this because of a diagnosis. No, no, guys. No. Got this function is rampant in autistic children and very little is being done about it. And this really needs to change. Okay. Just look, look in the first.
00:24:25
Speaker
A couple of chapters of my book. Look at the references in the back of the book, all the studies. If you don't believe me, if you need evidence, look at all the studies cited related to gut dysfunction, gut dysbiosis, candida, Clostridia bacteria, mycotoxins and mold, gut issues and autism severity, gut issues and anxiety and challenging behavior,
00:24:52
Speaker
intestinal permeability, the fact that probiotics and antifungals and antibiotics actually can help. There's just so much, so much in there. This is the other thing you have to understand. The other massive area is that of immune system dysregulation.

Immune System and Gut Health

00:25:20
Speaker
Immune system dysregulation is an extremely common thing in autistic children. And immune system dysregulation and gut dysfunction go hand in hand because something like 70%, 60, 70% of the immune system cells
00:25:43
Speaker
are in and around the gut in that general area. So if you disrupt the gut, the immune system will follow suit. Similarly, if the immune system is dysregulated by other means, like let's say toxic metals, so on and so forth, chemicals and so on, then that can
00:26:14
Speaker
that can also contribute to gut dysfunction, right? So a lot of things. It's not necessarily a gut pathogen. It could be, you know, you don't really know what's going on until you run some tests and a good stool test like the GI map or
00:26:35
Speaker
I personally like the organic acids test because it tells you if there is dysbiosis it can pinpoint candida in some Clostridia species
00:26:46
Speaker
And with that, you know there's intestinal dysbiosis without necessarily knowing which specific parasites, bacteria, autoimmune triggers, and so on are involved. Although that information is good, and if you can afford that to do both tests, I would definitely do both. But
00:27:07
Speaker
The organic acids test also tells us a bunch of other useful information. So, you know, it tells you, okay, yes, the gut dysfunction needs to be addressed. So, you know, anti, you know, herbal protocols, probiotics, other supplements.
00:27:24
Speaker
removing certain foods, but it will also tell you is it too many oxalates, too many vegetables and fruits with oxalates and is there B vitamins that are lacking and so on and so forth. So it can inform the diet, it can inform a lot of other things that can improve your child's health. So check out this information guys. Again, sign up to my members platform, get those three video courses. If you haven't yet,
00:27:54
Speaker
check them out there's a lot of good free information right there sorry my baby's crying i have to just pause
00:28:02
Speaker
Yeah. And just the other thing is, um, I'll cover this in a separate episode, but I just wanted to know, let you know that I'm also at the moment I'm close to completing a video course called detox workshop, where I talk all about, um, how to reduce your toxic exposures around the home and support your family's detoxification system. So check that out as well. It's a fraction of the cost.
00:28:28
Speaker
of what it will be when the course is complete. There'll be six hours there of video by the end of this week. A lot of really good information and that's another area.
00:28:39
Speaker
that first of all, toxic substances, toxic exposures can dysregulate the immune system and they can mess with the gut. So if you are not reducing your child's toxic exposure as much as humanly possible already, you know, you've got a lot of catching up to do. And there's a lot of really good information in my book and this course. So there'll be a link down below. Check that out if you need more help and support in that area. And with that said, you know, like
00:29:08
Speaker
I just want to leave you with this. Don't procrastinate. You have to, you have to accept that there's likely a lot of stuff that needs to

Addressing Toxic Exposures

00:29:20
Speaker
be improved in your diet, in your child's diet, your family's diet, lifestyle supplementation routine and other things, toxic exposure reduction and so on. You have to accept that you need to make changes. Nobody's blaming you or judging you.
00:29:35
Speaker
for the current state of things. We all have been duped by the chemicals, the food supply has been polluted, the environment has been polluted, plastics, chemicals, fire retardants in our clothes, in our cars. We
00:29:55
Speaker
And in many cases, nobody knew what's happened to the foods applied, the toxicity of the environment. It just arose over the last few decades. And these issues, the pesticides in the food, the herbicides, the glyphosate, the toxins in the food, the environment, the air, these things are taking a horrendous toll on our health and our children's health. This is why we have
00:30:25
Speaker
the incidence of autism rising so high, ADHD, autoimmunity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, all of these things are a result of a toxic environment, huge toxic burden, and horrendously bereft of nutrient diets, right? We need to fix our diets, our children's diets,
00:30:51
Speaker
We need to remove the toxic exposures and learn how to support our detoxification systems long term because a lot of these kids are in an extremely depleted state.
00:31:06
Speaker
high oxidative stress, body burden of metals, chemicals, and so on. And it will not get better unless you do something about it. Introduce healthy organic foods, introduce supplement support to get them over this hump that they're in, and do something about the gut, fix the gut, address the gut issues, and so on and so forth.
00:31:34
Speaker
We can only cover so much in one episode. I'll leave it there. Check out the links in the description. Connect with me. 50 minutes free consultation. No strings attached. Book that. Let's talk. I think we're not a good fit to work together. I will not waste your time.
00:31:52
Speaker
We will not waste each other's time. So again, no pressure. No, lots of free information for you on my podcast, my website and so on, members community. So leverage that you have the information you need, but it's not enough to consume information.
00:32:11
Speaker
Okay. You need to take action and this action needs to be significant. You need to take massive action. Okay. If you don't, if we don't, we will just become a statistic. Okay. We just become a statistic.
00:32:26
Speaker
You know, you might succumb to cancer, I might succumb to heart disease, stroke, another person, autoimmunity. If nobody, that government isn't gonna come and save you, they will not clean up your air, they will not take the pesticides out of your food, they will not get you the supplements needed to detoxify, you know, help to detoxify and excrete and neutralize all the crap that's in your body.
00:32:50
Speaker
You have to make these choices. You have to get educated. And, you know, there's so many resources and I hope you do because we're building the future together.

Taking Action Beyond Knowledge

00:33:00
Speaker
OK, so the choices we make, the responsibility we take.
00:33:05
Speaker
you know, we have to do this. Okay, sorry, I didn't mean to rant there for the last couple of minutes. But yeah, this is clearly important to me, right, as you can see. And I'm a little bit, it's picking up by book sales are picking up a little bit. I'm just trying to
00:33:21
Speaker
spread this information a little bit more, help more people. And yeah, please share this with other people and get involved and contact me. And if you have questions, if you want content created on specific issues, let me know. Just get in touch. Let's get some engagement going. Join the members community. There'll be a lot of really good free information. And for those that are ready,
00:33:46
Speaker
there'll be much more advanced information. But I honestly don't feel like putting the advanced stuff is of any use to people here if they're not doing the basics.
