Isaiah 47-49 Themes: Creator and Sustainer

00:02:13
Speaker
Thank you as we are going through God's word and learning all about the whole big picture of God's big Bible story from the beginning to the end, Genesis to Revelation, using that day-by-day kid's Bible.
00:02:30
Speaker
We are going to be reading in the book of Isaiah today. We are continuing with him. There are a lot of books in Isaiah. Sometimes they are interspersed with ah what is going on in Judah or in Israel.
00:02:44
Speaker
But right now we are just reading in Isaiah. Today's reading is going to cover chapters 49 and chapter 47, chapter 48, and chapter 49.
00:02:59
Speaker
So we have a lot to get into today, but guess what? There is one overarching theme throughout each one of these many chapters, and we will tie them all together for our daily application when we get to the end.
00:03:15
Speaker
So buckle up, let's get in here to Isaiah. If you are interested in reading yup your big Bible and if you are hungry for more of God's Word, in the description I will always include the chapters and verses as to where today's reading took place.
00:03:32
Speaker
And that way, if you want to ah read more about those fine details that you may be hungry for, you know right where to look. Most of the days I end up reading ah the selections in the big Bible as well as usually the whole chapter, but sometimes not the entire chapter, but most of the time.
00:03:53
Speaker
So i and sometimes you're able to get a little bit better of a picture when you do that. But for the big story, this is great. So here we go, we are going to start with Isaiah chapter 45 with its selections.
00:04:09
Speaker
And this section is entitled, Making a Fuss with the Creator, ah with the Maker, rather. And this is God speaking.
00:04:22
Speaker
There's bad news for people who make a fuss with me, their Maker. Those people are like a piece of a broken pot. Does clay talk to the person who makes it a pot?
00:04:35
Speaker
Does it say, what are you making? Does the things you make tell you that you don't have hands? Here is what I, your maker, says.
00:04:49
Speaker
Are you telling me what to do with what I made? I am the one who made the earth and its people. My own hands rolled the sky out wide.
00:05:02
Speaker
I brought the stars together. i will make Cyrus to be a king, and I will make him do the right thing. He will build my city back up again.
00:05:14
Speaker
He will let my people go free. I won't have to pay him to do it.
00:05:21
Speaker
people People all over the world come to me. Be saved, because I am God. I have promised. I tell the truth.
00:05:33
Speaker
My words will come true. You can be sure that everyone will bow to me. Every mouth will promise.
00:05:44
Speaker
People will say what's right comes only from God. They will say that strength comes only from God. All those who talked about God in anger will come.
00:05:58
Speaker
but they won't feel good for anything. God's people will be right. They will show their joy. Listen, my people. I have taken care of you since you were born.
00:06:12
Speaker
i am the one who will keep taking care of you, even when you are old, even when you have gray hair. I made you.
00:06:24
Speaker
I will carry you. I will keep you strong. I will save you.

Babylon's Downfall and Futile Predictions

00:06:33
Speaker
Chapter 47 Queen of the Kingdoms Sit down and be quiet, Babylon. People won't call you Queen of the Kingdoms anymore.
00:06:45
Speaker
I was angry at my people. I let you take them into your land, but you were not kind to them. You said, Our kingdom will always be the queen.
00:06:58
Speaker
So listen. You think you're safe. You say, there is no one like me. I'll never lose. But you will.
00:07:10
Speaker
You will lose in one day. Your spells and magic won't save you. You trusted in the bad things you did. You said, nobody sees it.
00:07:25
Speaker
You say, I'm the only important one. But trouble will come to you. You won't know how to make it go away. It's something you won't see coming.
00:07:37
Speaker
Suddenly it will be upon you. So keep saying your magic spells. You have worked at these since you were children. Maybe they will work.
00:07:48
Speaker
Maybe you'll scare trouble away. Some people tell what they think will happen by watching the stars. They cannot even save themselves.
00:07:59
Speaker
They cannot give you a fire to make you warm. They cannot do anything for you. They keep following their own lies. Not one of them can save you.
00:08:13
Speaker
Isaiah chapter 48.

Promise of Peace and Consequences

00:08:15
Speaker
Peace as wide as a river. Listen, Israel. Listen, Judah. I told you about these things a long time ago.
00:08:27
Speaker
Then I suddenly did what I said I would do. I knew you didn't care about me. Your hearts were hard. That's why I told you what would happen before it happened.
00:08:41
Speaker
Now you cannot say, my idol made this happen. Now I will tell you new things. You have not heard about them yet. So you can't say, i knew that.
00:08:56
Speaker
I waited to get angry with you. I waited because of who I am. i did not want to leave you with no one to help you.
00:09:11
Speaker
See, took out the sin in you. I tested you with hard times. I did this because of who I am. How could I let people say bad things about me?
00:09:26
Speaker
i will not let anyone else be called the greatest. I am the Lord your God. I teach you what's best for you. I show you the way you should go.
00:09:41
Speaker
i wish you had listened to my rules. Then peace as wide as a river would be yours. People who do wrong don't have peace, says God.
00:09:57
Speaker
Chapter 49, A Picture on God's Hands

God's Eternal Care and Promise

00:10:05
Speaker
God called me before I was born. He said, You are my servant. I will use you to show how great I am. Now God says, it is not enough for you to bring back my people.
00:10:22
Speaker
I will make you a light for people who are not Jewish too. That way I can save people all over the world. Shout with joy, you heavens, you earth, show your joy.
00:10:38
Speaker
Sing, you mountains. God cheers up his people. He will be kind to the hurt ones. But God's city said, God left me.
00:10:50
Speaker
God forgot me. Can a mother forget her baby? Can she stop being kind to her own baby? i won't forget you, says God.
00:11:05
Speaker
See, I drew your picture on the inside of my hands. I always... see you.
00:11:16
Speaker
And that is the end of our reading today.

Everyday Application of Faith

00:11:22
Speaker
I loved today's reading.
00:11:27
Speaker
Today, God is telling us that he made us. And we read about that yesterday. But he formed us and he's telling us today for our daily application.
00:11:43
Speaker
He didn't just make us. He has been caring for us since we were born. And he will continue to take care of us our entire lives.
00:11:56
Speaker
He will continue to take care of us even when we are old. Even you, Mickey, how old are you now? Mickey is probably our oldest listener. And our viewer, you are 90 something Mickey.
00:12:10
Speaker
And yet God still watches over you, doesn't he? He says, even when you are old, even when you have gray hair, i made you.
00:12:22
Speaker
I will carry you. I will keep you strong. I'll save you.
00:12:32
Speaker
God tells us that it's not magic spells that will save us.
00:12:38
Speaker
It's him who will save us. And he will, and he cared about his people so much that he held back his anger because of who he was, because he wasn't going to send his children into exile.
00:12:54
Speaker
He waited because I didn't want to leave you with no one to help you. He always provides for us. He makes sure we are never alone.
00:13:07
Speaker
And we'll get to more on that in just a moment.
00:13:12
Speaker
God says, He teaches us what is best for us. He shows us the way that we should go. and He wished that the people had listened to Him so that they could have peace as wide as a river.

Invitation to Salvation and Assurance

00:13:30
Speaker
God doesn't want to have to bring consequences. He told about it long time before it happened. And today ah at our church service, we read in Jeremiah where God told us that if when he sends out a warning about something he's going to do, that if people don't correct their ways,
00:13:59
Speaker
If people correct their ways, we've seen this happen, that when God sees that we make correction, then he doesn't bring what judgment he said he would bring.
00:14:10
Speaker
He relents. And if people choose not to obey, then he will bring the consequences. God wishes for us to listen to him, and then peace as wide as a river will be ours.
00:14:25
Speaker
But he promises that people who do wrong don't have his peace, his shalom.
00:14:34
Speaker
We hear God speaking to Jesus here again. Yesterday we read very personal letter to Jesus that God wrote for him. And he wrote these letters over 700 years before Jesus would come to read them.
00:14:48
Speaker
He says, God called me before I was born. He said, you are my servant and I will use you to show how great I am. Jesus points us to the Father. And now God told him, it's not enough for you to just bring back my my people, the Israelite people.
00:15:10
Speaker
He was going to be a light for people who aren't Jewish too. That's most of us listening here. We are considered the Gentile people. If you are Christian, you are Gentile. And that way I can save people all over the world.
00:15:27
Speaker
God says he told us these things ahead of time so that we would know.
00:15:34
Speaker
And we never have to worry about God forgetting about us. He is the God who sees us. He says to Israel, I won't forget you.
00:15:46
Speaker
i drew your picture on the inside of my hands. I always see you. He never turns his face away from us. And when he sent Jesus, Jesus told us, I will never leave you or forsake you.
00:16:05
Speaker
i am with you all the time, even to the end of the age. And not only that, but God even gave us his Holy Spirit to live with us, who is the comforter.
00:16:19
Speaker
And he is always with us once you become a believer. God sends you his Holy Spirit. We are never forgotten about. God saves us.
00:16:30
Speaker
He loves us. And he will never leave us. Isn't that a beautiful daily application for us today? We can't be told this enough.
00:16:43
Speaker
I notice by the analytics that most of us are women who are watching this about my age. And... Women can have a tendency to feel unloved.
00:16:57
Speaker
We have doubt. And God tells us repeatedly, he loves us, he made us, and he will never leave us.
00:17:11
Speaker
Isn't that wonderful? He doesn't just tell us once because we don't need to just hear it once. Women, we often need to hear this repeatedly. so that we don't start to have doubts.
00:17:24
Speaker
And God does that. He repeats his love for us over and over and over. Now, not every one of you are women, like you, Mickey, or you, Jedi, or you, Forrest.
00:17:39
Speaker
But for everybody needs to be told, whether you're a man or a woman or a boy or a girl, We need to remember God made us.
00:17:51
Speaker
He formed us. He designed us. We are not created by accident. He says, I know exactly what I am doing. Are you going to tell me
00:18:04
Speaker
what to do with what I made?
00:18:10
Speaker
I am the one who made the earth and its people. God made the earth and its people. He made you and he will never leave you. He will never go away from you. He will not forget you.
00:18:23
Speaker
We are engraved on his hand. He sees us all the time.
00:18:31
Speaker
And people all over the world have the opportunity now to come to him because he sent Jesus and he wasn't satisfied with just saving part of the people.
00:18:43
Speaker
He wants everybody to come to know him. Not everybody will choose to, and it tells us here that today, but it says people all over the world come to me.
00:18:54
Speaker
God is inviting everybody. Come to me, be saved because I am God. There is no other God. i have promised. I tell the truth.
00:19:06
Speaker
My words will come true. And whether people want to believe in him and come to him to be saved or not, he assures

Conclusion and Encouragement to Share

00:19:14
Speaker
us. He says, you can be sure that everyone will bow to me.
00:19:19
Speaker
Every mouth will promise. And people will say that what's right comes only from God.
00:19:29
Speaker
And it says God's people will be right. So people may tell you that you're wrong right now and you don't know what you're talking about. But it says God's people will be right and they will show their joy.
00:19:42
Speaker
I love that he says I've taken care of you since you were born. And that he will always take care of us.
00:19:51
Speaker
So thank you for joining me today. i hope you feel that God has lit your light. I hope that you feel loved today. I hope that you can feel God's love just pouring out to you.
00:20:03
Speaker
Because he will never leave you. Never. He is with you always. have Jesus here with us. You have the Holy Spirit. have our Heavenly Father. Thank you for joining me today, whether you are following along on your podcast or watching by video or checking it out on my site.
00:20:22
Speaker
Thank you for joining me today. And if you are ah inclined to, please click that light button so that we can draw other people to God's light, not for the event itself, but for God so that we can help spread the word about reading God's word.
00:20:38
Speaker
By reading God's word, we can spread that message and let people see for themselves that they too are loved by God, that God made them. and when people see the lights, that they see that light that we have lit for them.
00:20:53
Speaker
Because we are the light of the world. Jesus's light shines through us. We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. So let's point people as a light to God and help spread the word about reading his word.
00:21:07
Speaker
I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day, whatever day you get around to watching this video. And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
