Today's reading will cover Isaiah Chapters 55-57. Today we will read about God's forgiveness of sins being free for everyone who turns to Him. We will read that the gift of salvation comes with joy and shalom, and that without His gift of salvation there is no shalom. There is no shalom for those who choose to continue living in sin rather than entering into God's covenant of shalom.  We will talk about shalom being like a gift that we have received and simply don't know what to do with so we keep it in the closet or on a shelf, unused. In order to be able to USE this gift that we have been given we need to understand it, so we will talk about the meaning of the word shalom and learn that it is SOO much more in depth than the English word peace. It conveys being WELL, WHOLENESS. Today we will read that God promised to make people WELL. This will build upon yesterday's reading that God will send His Holy Spirit to be within us when we become believers. We learned yesterday that we are one with Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. Today we will make the connection that this oneness brings us HEALING, WHOLENESS, the essence of SHALOM. Today we will be reminded that Isaiah tells us that Jesus will be called the Prince of Shalom. The book of Ezekiel tells us that God will cut a covenant of shalom with us. Jesus' blood is the blood of the covenant of shalom that God has made with us. Jesus, when He left, left us with his shalom. The Prince of Shalom has given us HIS shalom! And John 14 tells us that we are to freely give what we have received. Today and every day let us deliberately USE our gift of shalom. Let us also give our shalom to others. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

00:00:08
Speaker

00:00:16
Speaker
We are going through the Day by Day Kids Bible, and it's been written by Karen Henley. And this is a fantastic version of the Bible. If you have not been familiar with our event yet, this is a storybook version in chronological order. And it's not every single detail, but it's the entire big story from Genesis to Revelation.
00:00:40
Speaker
And it is fantastic. It is easy to understand.

Celebration of Shavuot

00:00:45
Speaker
And the fact that it's written in one continuous timeline, means that we can really grasp the concept of the big picture throughout the entire Bible.
00:00:56
Speaker
I am loving it. And I really feel that God has poured out his Spirit. Shavuot is something we have been celebrating last week, and it is to commemorate the outpouring of God's Holy Spirit.

Reading from Isaiah: Themes of Peace and Love

00:03:21
Speaker
Today's reading will come to us from Isaiah, and we will be covering chapters 55, 56, and 57. So if you are looking for more details, then head up your Big Bible into Isaiah 55, 56, and 57.
00:03:37
Speaker
fifty six and fifty seven And I put also the verses that we will be looking at in afterwards in our daily application discussion.
00:03:48
Speaker
I include those in our description below. So if you are ever hungry for looking up those verses yourself, I have put those down there for you.
00:03:59
Speaker
Isaiah 55, trees will clap. Come, this is God speaking. Come, thirsty people, come to the water.
00:04:10
Speaker
Come, people who don't have money. Come and buy, come and eat. You can buy wine and milk. You don't need money.
00:04:21
Speaker
It doesn't cost a thing. Why work and pay money for things that don't do you any good? Listen, come to me.
00:04:33
Speaker
Hear me so your soul can live. i will make a special promise that lasts forever. It's my love that will never end that I promised to David.
00:04:48
Speaker
Look for God while you can find him. Talk to him while he is near.
00:04:56
Speaker
Oh, this part is not God. Sorry about that. People who do wrong should stop living that way. They should turn to God. God will be kind and loving to them.
00:05:08
Speaker
And God will forgive them for free. My thoughts are not your thoughts. My ways are not your ways, says God.
00:05:20
Speaker
The sky is higher than the earth. And my ways are higher than your ways. My thoughts are higher than your thoughts. The rain and snow come down from the sky.
00:05:35
Speaker
Before they go back, they water the earth. They make things grow. That way there are seeds for the farmer. Then there is bread for people to eat.
00:05:48
Speaker
My word is like that. It will do what I want it to do. You will go out with joy and peace.
00:06:00
Speaker
Mountains and hills will start singing right in front of you. All the trees in the field will clap. Pine trees will grow instead of weeds. This will show everyone that God is the Lord.
00:06:17
Speaker
Isaiah chapter 56 verses one through seven and chapter 57 verses one through six, 11 and 15 to 21, entitled, A Prayer House for All Nations.
00:06:34
Speaker
Keep choosing what is fair and doing right. I will save you soon. Keep obeying no matter what. Some people from other lands have chosen to follow God.
00:06:47
Speaker
Do not let them say, God will leave me out. Here is what God says. People from other lands promised to serve me.
00:06:59
Speaker
They promised to love my name. They promised to worship me. I will bring these people to my good holy mountain. I will make them happy in my prayer house.
00:07:13
Speaker
My worship house will be called a prayer house. It will be a prayer house for all nations.
00:07:23
Speaker
People who do what's right die, and nobody thinks about it. Good people who follow God die, but nobody knows why. Nobody knows that these people die to be kept from bad things.
00:07:41
Speaker
People who do what's right go into peace. That word is shalom. They rest when they die. You people who do wrong, come here.
00:07:55
Speaker
Who are you making fun of? You are sticking out your tongue. Who are you making faces at? You turn against God. You lie.
00:08:07
Speaker
You want things you shouldn't have. You worship idols. You have not remembered me. Is it because I have been quiet for so long?
00:08:18
Speaker
Is that why you don't think I am important? Here is what God says. I live in a high place. I live in a good, holy place.
00:08:32
Speaker
But I also live with people who know they are not great. I live with people who are sorry for their sins. I won't blame them forever.
00:08:44
Speaker
i won't always be angry. If I was, people would get weak. Their breath, their spirit I make would not be strong. I was angry because they sinned.
00:08:57
Speaker
I paid them back for what they did wrong. I saw what people did. But I will make them well. I will guide them and cheer them up.
00:09:11
Speaker
I will make their crying turn into praise. Peace comes to people far away. Peace comes to people near, says God.
00:09:23
Speaker
I will make them well. But people who do wrong are like tossing sea waves. They cannot rest. Those waves bring mud up onto the land.
00:09:35
Speaker
There is not any peace for people who sin, says God. And that's the end of our reading today.

Exploring the Meaning of Shalom

00:09:49
Speaker
The overarching theme for our daily application today is God's covenant of peace. God promises peace, and we spoke a bit yesterday about the peace that Jesus left with us.
00:10:03
Speaker
He gives us his peace and his peace comes from God. God cut a covenant of peace with us, it tells us in Ezekiel.
00:10:17
Speaker
Peace is not simply a word. The word that is given to us in the Bible is shalom. The Hebrew word shalom is translated into the English word peace, but it is not simply quiet or calm.
00:10:37
Speaker
God is giving us an amazing gift, a gift that is a covenant, a contract that will last forever. The Hebrew concept of shalom that is given to us by God.
00:10:54
Speaker
I'm going to read you something about that.
00:11:02
Speaker
This is the true meaning, the definition of shalom in Hebrew. The root word of shalom is shalom.
00:11:14
Speaker
One of the first uses of the word shalom is in the Torah in Exodus 21 and 22. And in these two chapters, it's used times.
00:11:26
Speaker
Moses is giving instructions to the people about what to do when someone causes a material loss or in the case of theft of property. And when that loss or injury occurs, the owner is considered lacking or not complete.
00:11:42
Speaker
The one responsible was to make things right. So in the translation of Exodus 21 and 22, Shalom is translated as make it good.
00:11:54
Speaker
shall surely pay, make full restitution or to restore. So the ancient Hebrew meaning of Shalom was to make something whole.
00:12:10
Speaker
Not just regarding practical restoration of things that were lost or stolen, but with an overall sense of fullness and completeness in mind, body and estate.
00:12:24
Speaker
So the meaning of wholeness carries over into the word shalom. And in Genesis,
00:12:34
Speaker
let's see, in Hebrew, the word translated as well-being, well, and in good health is all one word, shalom.
00:12:47
Speaker
Now, is in Arabic, the word for peace is salam. And it sounds similar, and it refers to a hope of world peace and the end of war.
00:12:59
Speaker
But the Hebrew word shalom goes straight to the heart. It is not equivalent to salam. Salam is more equivalent to what we have in English for peace.
00:13:12
Speaker
The true biblical shalom means an inward sense of completeness or wholeness. It can also describe the absence of war, but it really refers to a completeness and tranquility.
00:13:30
Speaker
So when God is giving us his peace, his covenant of peace, he is giving us his covenant of wholeness. completeness.
00:13:43
Speaker
And yesterday, you might remember that we spoke about how Jesus taught that when he left us the first time, he would be sending the helper and that he needed to leave so he could send us the helper.
00:13:59
Speaker
Who is the helper? the The Holy Spirit. And we read yesterday that the Holy Spirit
00:14:09
Speaker
hears

Jesus as the Prince of Shalom

00:14:10
Speaker
everything that it tells us and that it teaches us from Jesus. And Jesus hears from God. God is in Jesus. Jesus is in God.
00:14:22
Speaker
And Jesus is in us. And Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to us. So God's Spirit lives in us. We have the mind of Jesus, we read yesterday.
00:14:36
Speaker
and Jesus is in us and we are to live in him. We are complete. We are made whole.
00:14:47
Speaker
We are made well. And that is what God is referring to today in his reference where he says,
00:14:58
Speaker
i will make them well. I will make them whole. God has made us well. He has made us whole. We were incomplete without him and his spirit within us and without Jesus.
00:15:14
Speaker
Now, one of Jesus's names, Isaiah 9, 6 tells us, is that Jesus is the Prince of Shalom. So it makes sense that Jesus would give us his peace.
00:15:28
Speaker
And we read yesterday in John 14 that Jesus was leaving the disciples. And so he leaves us with his shalom, with his wholeness, his wellness, his peace.
00:15:43
Speaker
And he says that he doesn't give to us like the world gives to us. He gives the way God gives. So this is not just an earthly piece of of quiet and calm.
00:15:59
Speaker
He gives as God gives. This is a piece that transcends all understanding. This concept of shalom that we have been given as a gift, we don't have full grasp of it.
00:16:14
Speaker
So today's daily application is that you would understand from the Holy Spirit, this gift of Shalom that God has bestowed upon you.
00:16:27
Speaker
No matter how young you are, Diamond, you have the gift of shalom within you. You have peace and wholeness. You are made well in God. Sin made us sick and separate from God.
00:16:41
Speaker
But shalom gives us wholeness. We are made well. God makes us well. And I was reading all morning about the spirit of peace that God gives us, the spirit that he gives us of power.
00:17:00
Speaker
He says, it's very important to realize what God says here is that those without his spirit, those who are still living in sin, do not have his shalom.
00:17:13
Speaker
They are missing something. There is no peace. There is no shalom. for the people who sin. You need to accept God's free gift.
00:17:25
Speaker
God tells us today that his gift of Shalom is free. God paid for it. He sent Jesus to pay for it with his blood. God told us in Ezekiel that he would cut a covenant of peace with us.
00:17:42
Speaker
In the same way, like when he cut a covenant with Abraham, In that case, he used animals, and they walked between the two rows, the two halves. They took one animal, and they cut it in half, and then they walked between it.
00:17:59
Speaker
God went forth as ah as a flaming sword, and Abram was unable to walk on the fire, so Jesus walked in the covenant in lieu of him.
00:18:13
Speaker
the covenants would be done with blood. There was the covenant of circumcision, which also involves the cutting of skin, so that was blood. And this, when he cut covenant of peace with us, it is Jesus's blood that paid the covenant.
00:18:35
Speaker
There is so much this. to this concept of of covenant of peace that God has made with us that we simply don't understand. Who can know everything? God is so complex.
00:18:49
Speaker
He knows absolutely everything and the depths of his word. is is just so amazing. It is is so much higher than our ways.
00:19:00
Speaker
As God tells us today, his ways are higher than our ways. So when he does things, it is way beyond our basic comprehension. There is so much more.
00:19:15
Speaker
So our daily application today is for us to receive with with deliberate intent, God's gift of shalom.
00:19:28
Speaker
It's like in the past when you are given a gift and somebody gives this to you and you think to yourself, well, what am I going to do with that? And so you stuff it away in a closet and and you keep it, but you don't really know what to do with it. So it just kind of sits there and you don't use it for anything, but you've got it.
00:19:50
Speaker
And that concept of Shalom is like that gift that we have had that's been given to us, but we simply don't know what to do with it. We don't know how to use it.
00:20:01
Speaker
We say, oh, God gives me his peace, but there is so much more.

Applying the Gift of Shalom

00:20:10
Speaker
God is the God of Shalom.
00:20:15
Speaker
I am going to take us into think it was 2 Corinthians.
00:20:23
Speaker
No, we did that yesterday. Let's see.
00:20:32
Speaker
In John 16, Jesus tells us that he has been telling us these things above. He says, these things i have spoken to you so that in me, you may have shalom.
00:20:47
Speaker
In the world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world. So what are these things that he has told us?
00:20:59
Speaker
He has told us about the Spirit being sent. He says to us in
00:21:14
Speaker
verse 7, seven that it was to our advantage that he go away Because if he did not, then the helper would not come. But because he is going, he will send the helper.
00:21:27
Speaker
And when the helper comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment. Concerning sin, because they do not believe in me. Concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father, and you will no longer see me.
00:21:43
Speaker
And concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
00:21:51
Speaker
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own, but whatever he hears, he will tell you. And he will declare to you the things that are to come.
00:22:06
Speaker
He will glorify me because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. and Everything that the Father has is mine. And for this reason, I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
00:22:20
Speaker
So this goes hand in hand with what we read yesterday with the Holy Spirit teaching us truth. The Holy Spirit... is part of our gift of peace, knowing that he will bring us truth and tell us what to say and teach us all things.
00:22:38
Speaker
This will give us peace. This will give us God's shalom. But there is more.
00:22:46
Speaker
In that day, you will ask me nothing in questions. I tell you that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. Up to now you have not asked for anything in my name.
00:23:00
Speaker
Ask and you will receive so that your joy may be full.
00:23:07
Speaker
Dropping down to 26. In that day you will ask in my name. And I am not telling you that you will ask the Father on your behalf. For the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came forth from God.
00:23:24
Speaker
I came forth from the Father and I have come into the world.
00:23:30
Speaker
These things I have spoken to you so that in me you may have shalom. In the world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world.
00:23:46
Speaker
And Jesus gives us his peace. we We read in John 14 yesterday at the end of the chapter. He says, Shalom, I leave you.
00:23:58
Speaker
My shalom, I give to you, but not as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid.
00:24:14
Speaker
So may God's shalom that he has already given you be a gift that you use in your life today. Whatever it is that you have that you come up against that Satan tries to throw your way or whatever challenges you face in your day, whatever it is you do today and every day, let's deliberately use that gift that's been sitting on a shelf that you didn't know what to do with.
00:24:44
Speaker
God gives us his shalom. He gives us his peace, his wholeness, his wellness. We are one in God. We are one in Jesus.
00:24:55
Speaker
And we have the Holy Spirit within us. We are made whole. We are made one. We have the mind of Jesus. So this is building on what we learned yesterday.
00:25:07
Speaker
So let's deliberately take out that gift of shalom that God has given us, that gift of wholeness and wellness, and ask God what he wants us to do with that today.
00:25:20
Speaker
And God will teach you through his Holy Spirit, what he wants you to do with it today. Because we know that the spirit of truth will speak to us and teach us everything we need to know.
00:25:34
Speaker
God told us so through Jesus.
00:25:38
Speaker
So I hope that you feel that God has lit your light today, that you will deliberately use your gift of Shalom today and every day with the spirit that God has given you.
00:25:51
Speaker
And I pray that i have prayed that you will feel your shalom, your wholeness, your wellness in God. You are one in God. We are one in God together as part of Jesus's body.
00:26:04
Speaker
We are all connected with God's spirit. We together are one. We are whole. We are together. we are all one as brothers and sisters with God's spirit.
00:26:19
Speaker
I pray that you will feel that unity today, that you will feel God's shalom, your wholeness with other believers today, and let your peace go to them.
00:26:33
Speaker
God tells us too, Jesus told us that when he was sending out the disciples, he said that when you came to a house that where you would be staying, let your peace rest on it.
00:26:45
Speaker
And if they are not willing or worthy, then let your peace return to you. So that tells us we can also give our peace in the same way that Jesus gave us his peace.
00:26:57
Speaker
We can give our peace to others.
00:27:01
Speaker
Isn't that a beautiful gift? It's a gift that just keeps right on giving. And Jesus tells us that freely we have been given. So freely, let us give.
00:27:13
Speaker
Let us give that gift of peace that God has given us among other believers. And let us share God's love with those who do not yet believe so that they too may become one with us and one with God and that they too may know God's shalom.
00:27:33
Speaker
God does not want anybody to perish. He wants all to come to him. He is calling everybody to him. And he does not he does not um stay away to take a long time to come because he is simply wasting time.
00:27:52
Speaker
He is giving time for people to come and it be part of this covenant of peace that he has made with us. So thank you for joining me today.
00:28:04
Speaker
I just know that you feel God has lit that light and that you are shining brightly to be salt in the earth and light of the world. And I love seeing your lights.
00:28:15
Speaker
I love coming across people who are believers in my day. And ah you can feel it in your spirit that we are one.

Concluding Blessing and Teachings Recap

00:28:23
Speaker
Do not let our enemy cause us to want to be quarrelsome with those who are believers.
00:28:30
Speaker
Sometimes I find that when ah i just, for no reason, I just want to be grumpy with somebody. I want to not like them.
00:28:41
Speaker
and I find that that is the enemy because he wants to cause division within us because he knows that we are one and he is trying to break us apart.
00:28:52
Speaker
But guess what? Jesus has overcome the world. He has overcome the prince of this world, and he has come over the world.
00:29:03
Speaker
And we have that peace. So don't let division come between you and another believer. When you realize that you are had just really have no reason to not like somebody.
00:29:15
Speaker
Think about that. That is our enemy. He is trying to cause division. And we are called to be ministers of reconciliation. We are one with the Prince of Peace.
00:29:30
Speaker
Paul closes his letter in 2 Thessalonians. And I love this. I'm going to use this. 2 Thessalonians chapter 3.
00:29:43
Speaker
He tells us, Now may the Lord of Shalom himself give you shalom at all times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.
00:29:56
Speaker
I pray today that our Lord of Shalom himself will give you shalom at all times today and in every way, and that the Lord be with you today.
00:30:11
Speaker
Have a great rest of your day, everybody, filled with God's shalom. And I will be here for everyone again tomorrow.
