Introduction to Bravo Charlie Club Podcast

00:00:01
Ben
o
00:00:03
Richard
Welcome to the Bravo Charlie Club podcast, making you 12 and a half minutes more awesome each week. He's Ben, I'm Richard. Let's go. ben how are you doing this week?
00:00:15
Ben
Cracking on, mate. Doing really well. Hey, new listener country is Latvia. You been to Latvia?
00:00:20
Richard
I've never been to Latvia.
00:00:21
Ben
I don't think I have either. been to Estonia. It's nearby, I think. ah So the the greeting is Librit.
00:00:28
Richard
La Brite.
00:00:29
Ben
which, yeah, that sounds like a French-British person, but we'll go.
00:00:35
Richard
You're offending everyone equally there, Ben.
00:00:35
Ben
Le Brit.
00:00:36
Richard
Nice. Here
00:00:38
Ben
Le Brit, for the record, is good morning. I think, yeah, you can get a few other greetings in there as well.

Communication Resolutions

00:00:45
Ben
um Yeah, so there you go How's life?
00:00:47
Richard
and we go. Yeah, good. Good. Things are good.
00:00:51
Ben
In the um fully awake project, you've put here that you wanted to do a resolution check-in.
00:00:51
Richard
New year.
00:00:57
Richard
Yeah. So did you end up did you end up coming to the table, Ben, with any any resolutions?
00:00:57
Ben
So how about,
00:01:02
Richard
And if you did, how are they going?
00:01:04
Ben
Well, I i i did. ah I sort of went down this sort of little rabbit hole. um It was around communication protocols, actually. You know, should WhatsApp groups have rules? You know, who can be removed from a chat group?
00:01:19
Ben
You know, are responses even required? And then I sort of got on onto like a community hierarchy.
00:01:21
Richard
Oh, yeah.
00:01:25
Ben
And so here's, I've set up my my rules and resolutions for this year. If I get an SMS from my wife, I'll be responding before she's even finished sending it.
00:01:36
Richard
Yes.
00:01:37
Ben
that
00:01:38
Richard
Yep.
00:01:38
Ben
If I get a WhatsApp from friends and colleagues, likely to respond in the same day, depending on the time zone. um And some friends of mine have said I'm an elite responder, which I take as ah as a badge.
00:01:46
Richard
Mm-hmm.
00:01:53
Ben
um Email from my boss, 24 hours no matter what, even if it's just to acknowledge receipt and and get on to doing the actual project.
00:01:53
Richard
There you go Yeah.
00:01:57
Richard
Mm-hmm. 72
00:02:01
Ben
um Email from anyone else, 72 hours, I think.
00:02:05
Richard
Yeah. seventyw hours yeah
00:02:06
Ben
Yeah, yeah i think um I think some grace has to be given on Project Load. This is when I got really interesting. I thinking about the messages I received on LinkedIn and I've applied a timeframe of never to messages on LinkedIn.
00:02:22
Richard
Right. Yeah.
00:02:23
Ben
And because I just think it's a silly service and if people are messaging me on LinkedIn expecting me to respond, they're setting themselves up for disappointment. And then I thought, well, the other yeah the other thing the the other thing is, like as you know, we set up an Instagram account for Bravo Charlie Club and there's it's actually got a messaging service inside of that.
00:02:33
Richard
They certainly are.
00:02:41
Richard
You did.
00:02:46
Ben
So I've applied ah a communication protocol to that. It's never plus one day.
00:02:54
Richard
Excellent.

Unusual Online Listings

00:02:56
Richard
So lower than LinkedIn.
00:02:58
Ben
Yes. Yeah, I think i think so. i think so. Hey, mate, what's the weirdest thing you've ever seen I was on Gumtree and our friends and our listeners now know what Gumtree is because we explained that to them.
00:03:08
Richard
The weirdest thing I've ever seen for sale. Okay.
00:03:14
Richard
I don't know Nothing comes to mind. Okay.
00:03:23
Ben
And...
00:03:24
Richard
um you see you're browsing Gumtree.
00:03:24
Ben
um
00:03:25
Richard
So there you go.
00:03:26
Ben
Yeah.
00:03:26
Richard
You're going to get a whole bunch of weird on there.
00:03:26
Ben
Yeah. Yeah. And I've landed on the answer. It was a jar of quince. It was free pickup only. And the the comment was, um you know, we we don't like quince as this the selling as a selling point.
00:03:43
Richard
Right. Yep.
00:03:45
Ben
But here's the kicker. It was out of date. And...
00:03:48
Richard
A jar of out-of-date quince.
00:03:50
Ben
And they had b listed it after it went out of date. It wasn't like it was sitting there waiting to be sold and went out of date. It was actually listed out of date, free pickup only.

Travel Challenges Between Cities

00:04:02
Ben
Now, who's your target market is my question.
00:04:06
Richard
It's a fair question, I think.
00:04:10
Richard
Sometimes it's interesting to sort of unpack the motivation behind that too.
00:04:10
Ben
All right.
00:04:13
Richard
Like, it that they couldn't let it go to waste, but they...
00:04:16
Ben
Yeah, and and I think so. I resonate with that. I do. If they didn't want it to go to waste, that's great. And look, I grew up in a household.
00:04:24
Richard
Does quince last forever? Who knows?
00:04:25
Ben
yeah Yeah, true.
00:04:26
Richard
It's kind of citrusy, right?
00:04:27
Ben
It's just sugar, right? Yeah.
00:04:28
Richard
So it might, maybe, don't know.
00:04:29
Ben
I grew up in a household where things pass the date. you know You sniff the milk and yogurt, if it was inside of 30 days past the um the used bite, it was probably still fine.
00:04:40
Ben
you know ah so maybe it's just that but demographic. I don't know. Hey, let's move on to the travel tip of the week. What's the worst travel leg for you?
00:04:50
Richard
The worst travel leg. um Long haul, we're talking international.
00:04:54
Ben
Yeah, milk doesn't my answer's not actually long haul, but um'm I'm interested.
00:04:59
Richard
Yeah, so I fly really well west, flying west, so going with the sun. But flying, int i think it is anti-theory.
00:05:07
Ben
Okay. That's anti-theory, isn't it? Yeah.
00:05:13
Richard
I think it anti-theory, but flying east into the sun, well, not into the sun, because planes can't fly that high, but because of the atmosphere and stuff.
00:05:18
Ben
Yeah, yeah. That scene will be... Elon Musk will get his way, yeah.
00:05:23
Richard
Yeah.
00:05:24
Ben
Yeah.
00:05:26
Richard
ah Flying east, you know, so flying east is, I'm good, but the caveat on that is, is West Coast America.
00:05:36
Richard
So we're and sort of flying from East Coast Australia to West Coast America. You often end up in the same day a few hours before you've actually left.
00:05:45
Ben
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you're right.
00:05:47
Richard
And I seem to be okay because I'm good at sleeping on planes. So I can just sleep and then I wake up there and I'm refreshed.
00:05:51
Ben
Yeah, okay.
00:05:54
Richard
And doesn't matter. can fly anywhere. i can anywhere from, you know, Vancouver down to, i don't know, LA. Yeah, I'm good.
00:06:02
Ben
Yeah, gotcha.
00:06:03
Richard
Mm-hmm.
00:06:03
Ben
Yeah, that's that's a good call. that that That particular one where you land before um you left.
00:06:09
Richard
Before you left, it's awesome. You've gone backwards in time.
00:06:11
Ben
Yeah, yeah.
00:06:12
Richard
Woo.
00:06:12
Ben
But you need you do you do need to get to sleep and get into that time zone pretty quick.
00:06:13
Richard
Yeah.
00:06:16
Richard
Yes.
00:06:18
Ben
The hardest one for me is Brisbane, Auckland. Now, yeah now it's it's it's only a three-hour flight, which you might like harden up, Ben.
00:06:22
Richard
Brisbane Auckland. Okay. So, yeah.
00:06:29
Richard
Oh, yeah. But they're three hours ahead.
00:06:29
Ben
But it's a three-hour time zone in daylight savings.
00:06:30
Richard
Yes. Yes.
00:06:33
Ben
so So from October to April, they go an hour in front of ah of their normal time. And so you know if you fly at 9 a.m., you leave it you you land at p.m.
00:06:41
Richard
So you plus six.
00:06:44
Ben
and you're like, it's lunch. thought I remember I've always landed and just gone and had a lunch and not had dinner because you don't you don't know what you're doing. it's just I just find it real ah are really weird.
00:06:54
Richard
It's enough to dock your off balance. Yeah.
00:06:56
Ben
Yeah, the the reverse is Auckland-Brisbane is actually the best leg because you well cause you take off at four and you land at four.
00:06:56
Richard
Yeah.
00:07:01
Richard
Ah,

Driving Experiences and Feedback

00:07:05
Ben
And so you know you don't lose you don't lose anything.
00:07:05
Richard
yes. Yeah. Yeah.
00:07:09
Ben
So, yeah, it's a bit of fun. Hey, we got a bunch of listener feedback this week.
00:07:13
Richard
Yeah.
00:07:15
Ben
Listener MR writes in and um he's caught up on our podcast. And I'm sorry to have to break this to you, but the correct way to hold a steering wheel is, in fact, with your hands at nine to three, not ten to two.
00:07:28
Ben
Just watch any race car driver. Now, I have to believe him. He's an absolute F1 fanatic. So... um If he says that Max Verstappen thinks it's okay to drive at 9 and 3, well, who am I to comment?
00:07:41
Richard
They drive faster and have different rules though.
00:07:43
Ben
they They do. They do. he he reloads and says, indeed, the briefing before any track drive day or any driver train day usually commences with dispelling the myth about 10 and 2 that you've heard on podcasts.
00:07:56
Richard
Have you ever done one of those driver trading days just as aside, Ben?
00:07:57
Ben
So, no, no, I would like to.
00:08:00
Richard
It is crazy fun. it is so good, actually.
00:08:02
Ben
Yeah.
00:08:03
Richard
You get to put your car into all sorts of um crazy positions that you never ever would on the road, right?
00:08:03
Ben
I...
00:08:10
Richard
Swerving witch's hats or they went up the track and you can get to put it into a skid. And it's just kind of like understanding how the car handles in those weird situations. Yeah, it's fascinating.
00:08:20
Ben
I do, I do think that would be kind of awesome. Um, I'm, I am very lucky.
00:08:23
Richard
It is awesome.
00:08:26
Ben
A very good mate of mine is actually a racing car driver. Um, and he drives in a class called radical where, um, it's a dual seater. And so I've actually had a right, I had a, had a ride in his car with him.
00:08:40
Ben
Uh, and, and it's, it's,
00:08:40
Richard
Yeah.
00:08:43
Ben
I'll never do it again because I've, you know, you know, let's, yeah, anyway. ah But it was, it was,
00:08:50
Richard
Yep. Change of shorts. Yeah. We're getting really fast into this corner.
00:08:55
Ben
yeah, yeah, yeah, that's right.
00:08:55
Richard
Are we hitting a break yet? Yeah,
00:08:58
Ben
There's a, that's the one on the left. know, do you need some help?
00:09:00
Richard
yeah, yeah. yeah
00:09:02
Ben
I can get it. No, it was, it was, it was pretty spectacular. um Hey, listen, MR reloads with,
00:09:07
Richard
Yeah, awesome.
00:09:11
Ben
the yeah the neighbour's parking conundrum.
00:09:14
Richard
Oh, yeah, yeah.
00:09:15
Ben
and And he said his wife and he were divided on neighbour's parking. But they are they are ah combined to be upset about neighbours who leave on a permanent basis, large trailers and now caravans, and also a boat on a trailer.
00:09:32
Ben
All three are in front of their home, which makes this the conundrum

Neighborhood Dynamics

00:09:37
Ben
of the week. This is as listener inspired conundrums, mate. Where do you stand on people cluttering up the streets with caravans, trailers and boats?
00:09:47
Richard
It is, that they take up so much space. And in in our, quite a narrow street, and actually, funnily enough, one of our neighbours who was renting there has just just moved out and they had a, you know, a really large, like a Ford Ranger.
00:10:04
Richard
think that's a large truck, isn't it?
00:10:05
Ben
Yeah, it's a big... So for for our for a US-based listeners, that's like a very small F100.
00:10:07
Richard
yeah
00:10:14
Richard
ah yeah
00:10:16
Ben
Yeah,
00:10:17
Richard
a dog grooming trailer behind it and so they they took up two parks really and so that if that's there then there's three parks that are kind of kind of gone and so like with that gone we can um it's it's so much easier at parking on the street now so uh yeah
00:10:22
Ben
Gone.
00:10:33
Ben
Well, Emma observed that in the old days, you know, that makes him sound about 90. So i think, um and he he literally wrote that. In the old days, people would put these things in the large garages or their backyards.
00:10:45
Ben
But I suppose many people don't have that option right now. And I think that's fair, you know, like the so block sizes are shrinking the whole, you know, the Australian dream, for instance, of having the quarter acres.
00:10:48
Richard
Yeah. Yeah.
00:10:55
Ben
That's, that's a myth. They're gone.

Conclusion and Upcoming Topics

00:10:57
Ben
um you know, so that's where you would have stored these kinds of things.
00:10:58
Richard
yeah
00:11:02
Ben
Um, So if you'd like to get as much airtime as MR got this week, why not leave a comment, send us a text, join the Inner Sanctum where we took a recent poll on how we should check out of the um of the show. The links will be in the show notes. Any passing comments before we head off, Richard?
00:11:23
Richard
That's it, I think. No passing comments.
00:11:24
Ben
yeah you know You're not going to reveal the... Okay, here we go. That's it, Richard. Listeners have been BCC'd on our week. In next week's show, we ask, what's the worst mocker you've ever put on anything?
00:11:37
Ben
And I have a doozy. See you next week.
00:11:39
Richard
Oh.
00:11:40
Ben
Bravo, Charlie Club, out.
00:11:42
Richard
And that's the pod.
