Welcome and Listener Shoutout

00:00:02
Richard
Welcome to the Bravo Charlie Club podcast, making you 12 and a half minutes more awesome each week. He's Ben, I'm Richard. Let's go. ben how are you doing this week?
00:00:13
Ben
cracking on, mate. Remember how last week I said there was eight new listener countries that call out? So the first one is Zambia.
00:00:18
Richard
Yes.
00:00:21
Ben
Now, depending on the region and the language, they it could be Shani or it could be Bwangi.
00:00:25
Richard
A tricky one. Yeah.
00:00:30
Ben
And I want to add, yeah, this is often a accompanie accompanied by a light clap.
00:00:30
Richard
Wangee.
00:00:35
Ben
so uh i don't think we've had any clapping involved in our new listener country greetings so uh welcome zambia and clap
00:00:45
Richard
Clap.
00:00:48
Richard
I wonder if that's

Maturity vs. Hoarding

00:00:49
Richard
going to come out.
00:00:49
Ben
it's all good hey we in the fully awake project this week i want to talk about maturing and getting old so here's the thing yeah
00:00:50
Richard
hu
00:00:57
Richard
What?
00:01:00
Ben
Here's the thing. we We were doing some renovations around our home and we recently replaced some fittings on and on a door on our home. They were almost certainly the original fittings.
00:01:12
Ben
Now, we're talking like a 50-year-old home, right? And I was just looking at these. I'd taken them off the off the door. And I'm looking I'm like, know I should just throw these out, but there's no way my dad would be throwing these out. He would keep them.
00:01:28
Ben
And I'm just thinking, is that a maturity thing? Like, is do I have that to look forward to when I get older or is it is it generational? Like, at what point do you start keeping things that you should just chuck out? Or or have I got this completely mixed up?
00:01:41
Richard
You see, when you said maturing, I was conjuring up images of the wisdom associated with age and stuff, but it sounds more like hoarding.
00:01:48
Ben
Definitely not, no.
00:01:50
Richard
I'm
00:01:51
Ben
Yeah. yeah Well, if anyone's expecting us to get wise, we're 49 episodes in, mate, and I don't think we've said a wise thing yet.
00:02:00
Richard
not sure yet either.
00:02:00
Ben
So that's...
00:02:04
Richard
You know, I reckon though, i think it is because in our parents' era, they didn't have Bunnings Home Depot, you know, those those kinds of things. it was The things that were, everything that came off your house went into a jar or went into a cupboard or was it was collected.
00:02:14
Ben
in
00:02:19
Ben
Yeah, because you'll need that.
00:02:21
Richard
And you have this giant jar full of like, you know, odd screws and random household bits that don't fit together or just, you know, go rusty.
00:02:27
Ben
Yeah.
00:02:29
Richard
And that jar sits on the shelf with a label on it and... Yeah. i am
00:02:34
Ben
But it's hard. Like, we're the next generation, and I have that jar.
00:02:37
Richard
We are. Yeah.
00:02:39
Ben
Yeah. but i still go to bunnings I still go to Bunnings to get my screws.
00:02:41
Richard
This is the worst of both worlds.
00:02:45
Ben
but

First Class Flying Experiences

00:02:47
Ben
So you're keeping the old stuff and buying the new stuff. like
00:02:50
Richard
And buying the new stuff, yeah.
00:02:52
Ben
so So what about our observations? and yeah like you know One of my favourites is, you know oh, that's a good drying day you know when you're looking at the weather and it's like 26 degrees and sunny and the wind's blowing.
00:03:01
Richard
Yeah.
00:03:04
Ben
it's a good drying day. like when When do you start to say that? i do
00:03:10
Richard
I think when you get kids, the amount of washing that you get just explodes, right?
00:03:11
Ben
is it yeah i mean you get that That could be right. Yeah.
00:03:16
Richard
And you're and you're like I think that's our probably our washing machine, maybe the dishwasher. I'm not sure, but maybe it's probably tying for the most hardworking robot in the house.
00:03:30
Ben
Yeah.
00:03:30
Richard
The, cause you know, we're all fairly active. There's only three of us, but there's sports and that kind of thing. And if you, if you, you know, running into a Saturday where you're doing sheets and towels, right, you can easily do five loads.
00:03:36
Ben
Yeah.
00:03:43
Richard
I mean, if you spread it over the weekend, maybe it's two days where you're doing four loads each, but like with sport and stuff. Yeah.
00:03:50
Ben
so so So you just get up in the morning go come on, love, it's good drying day. Like, let's get onto it.
00:03:54
Richard
It's always a good dry day.
00:03:55
Ben
Yeah.
00:03:55
Richard
Oh, it's Queensland.
00:03:55
Ben
Yeah.
00:03:56
Richard
It's pretty good.
00:03:57
Ben
True, true. Yeah, we're lucky. And what about what about this one? No, that's a good box. Don't throw that out. It's a good box. You know.
00:04:04
Richard
Oh, I love it.
00:04:04
Ben
Yeah.
00:04:05
Richard
Actually, yeah. I've got that box, the shoe box still with the pictures in it, the pre-scanned pictures from days when you actually got stuff developed.
00:04:12
Ben
Yeah.
00:04:16
Richard
And every now and then a better box will come along that's better than the current box I've got.
00:04:16
Ben
Yeah.
00:04:19
Ben
Whoa.
00:04:21
Richard
And so like box upgrade.
00:04:21
Ben
sh
00:04:23
Richard
It's a box upgrade time.
00:04:23
Ben
Yeah.
00:04:24
Richard
So it's also i
00:04:25
Ben
Actually, i got I got a pair of shoes. i got a pair of shoes where the box was magnetized. why
00:04:32
Richard
a magnetic lid.
00:04:32
Ben
It was, yeah, magnetic lid, which is, that's pretty...
00:04:32
Richard
Yeah.
00:04:35
Richard
sort of shoes are you buying, Ben? That's like, that's crazy.
00:04:39
Ben
Oh, a gift. i don't I can't afford box shoes that come in a magnetized box.
00:04:44
Richard
Hmm.
00:04:47
Ben
Oh, my goodness. Oh, there you go Hey, travel tip of the week. I was asked recently, what's the best way to access first class in a flight?
00:05:00
Ben
Now, have you have you ever flown first class?
00:05:03
Richard
i have. Yes, I have. I've flown first class before. yeah. yeah
00:05:09
Ben
And did you pay for that ticket or were you upgraded?
00:05:12
Richard
I did.
00:05:13
Ben
Pay.
00:05:14
Richard
I've had one of each. I've had one where I for forked out the the cash, the ridiculous expense of it, thinking it was going to be some really awesome experience.
00:05:16
Ben
Yeah, okay. Yeah.
00:05:24
Richard
And I ended up just crashing out and sleeping through the flight, which is, I guess, kind of the the whole thing about it, right?
00:05:25
Ben
Yeah.
00:05:30
Ben
Yeah.
00:05:31
Richard
And so it's like like long haul. i I've also so had a short haul domestic US flight upgrade to first class, but that's kind of really more like business class and in Australia sort of thing.
00:05:42
Ben
think yeah I think it likes and likens to business.
00:05:44
Richard
so
00:05:44
Ben
Yeah.
00:05:45
Richard
because planes are sort of but a bit more like buses there, you know, sort of thing.
00:05:46
Ben
But still cool. Yeah, still cool. Like you've been upgraded, so that's cool.
00:05:51
Richard
Yeah, still cool.
00:05:53
Ben
I've flown first class once. was very fortunate. I got i'll got upgraded. I've never paid for a first class flight, and I'm not sure if I would. the i arrived at the airport, and they said I was flying business class, and they said, I'm sorry, the business class cabin's been fully booked.
00:06:08
Ben
And I was like looking at the lady thinking, are you about to
00:06:12
Richard
Looking forlorn.
00:06:13
Ben
you pat downgrade me?
00:06:15
Richard
was
00:06:15
Ben
Like, what is going on? And she said, but because your tier in one of our partner airlines is so high, we've you know identified your ticket to be upgraded.
00:06:28
Ben
And i was just like, there's a win.
00:06:29
Richard
Nice.
00:06:30
Ben
Yeah.
00:06:30
Richard
Yeah, yeah.
00:06:31
Ben
So because of the tier partnership, I already had access to their first class lounge, which was epic. And I think that's where that's, that's the point of difference in first class is actually on the ground for me.
00:06:43
Richard
Yeah,
00:06:49
Richard
yeah, yeah. yeah
00:07:02
Ben
And the reality is you need to probably be on an international flight. To your point, the first class in the US tends to be probably akin to business class in in other areas.
00:07:15
Ben
And I'd suggest go for a short one. The shortest leg that I could find that that met that need was Sydney to Christchurch. and uh or potentially check out singapore airlines which offers first class uh to many of its asia pacific region legs but but my my advice is try and get a try try and get a short haul first class and and look forward to the lounge and the experience and drink some awesome champagne so there's the is it
00:07:42
Richard
And so do you do do you do this sort of like, do you do the you pay the business and then you use the points for upgrading or something?
00:07:48
Ben
Normally, yeah, yeah, normally.
00:07:49
Richard
Like is that? Yeah.
00:07:50
Ben
You can upgrade from premium economy. yeah like You just have to check your ticket. like And obviously, it's all it's all cost.
00:07:55
Richard
Yep.
00:07:57
Ben
it there's It all works out one way or the other. But if you've got a significant amount of points and if you're not collecting points, then that's probably a different discussion. Shoot me a message and we should be talking about that. But yeah, usually from a business class. But short-haul business class in Asia Pacific is not expensive.
00:08:16
Richard
Yeah.
00:08:17
Ben
because it's as you pointed out it's almost like a commuter you know commuter service so right yeah yeah so so air asia actually came up in some of one of my planning and and it's recognized as probably the best budget
00:08:23
Richard
I mostly fly AirAsia actually when I'm doing sort of short all around Asia and I don't think they actually have a first class, but,
00:08:39
Ben
Like it's got a really good reputation, but it's at that budget sort of end.
00:08:43
Richard
cheap and cheerful.
00:08:44
Richard
Yep.
00:08:45
Ben
Yeah, really, really well regarded. So you go. Shout out to AirAsia friends.

Listener Questions and Feedback

00:08:50
Ben
There's a plug for them, a free plug. Hey, we got some listen we got some listener feedback, and I wasn't really sure if this was supposed to be positioned as a conundrum or if it was just a statement of fact.
00:08:53
Richard
like I need it.
00:09:03
Ben
Listener RL writes in and says, how's a game between two teams anything but 50-50? And he just wants people to just stop saying it. And there was nothing else added to that. So, yeah.
00:09:16
Ben
yeah go Got any thoughts on that, Richard? Yeah.
00:09:20
Richard
yeah, well, I guess it depends on the teams and what the game is. I don't know.
00:09:23
Ben
So the whole sports betting angle coming in. there
00:09:26
Richard
so but i but I guess, you know, in the purest sense, uh, one team needs, needs to win.
00:09:29
Ben
the
00:09:35
Ben
Yes. Yes. There you go. was It's it's nice to get our listeners writing in.
00:09:36
Richard
uh, or not.
00:09:37
Richard
I mean, it could be draw.
00:09:40
Ben
Hey, listener DR wrote in, and he's actually listened to the AI Deep Dive episode.
00:09:47
Richard
Oh, already? Yeah.
00:09:48
Ben
All 90 minutes.
00:09:48
Richard
Yeah.
00:09:50
Ben
So that's pretty impressive. he says, here's what he's written. Great episode, boys. We're moving fast into an exciting future. Embrace, learn, and be creative. But most importantly, don't forget what's important to you. For me, that's health, family, and business.
00:10:06
Ben
Now, I'm going something we don't often do, JR.
00:10:07
Richard
Are they wise its words if you've ever heard them?
00:10:10
Ben
Yeah, going do something I don't often do, mate, and name the listener. Because listener DR is Dan Richards, who I believe a seriously impressive guy.
00:10:15
Richard
Uh-oh.
00:10:20
Ben
He co-hosts his own podcast, which I enjoy. It's called Shift SHFT with Aaron Pickering. I'll drop a link in the show notes because if anyone's interested in health, family and leadership at work, definitely give that a preview. It's worth worth your time.
00:10:37
Richard
Excellent.
00:10:38
Ben
Yeah. Actually, he lives in your neck of the woods too, so it's probably time you guys met.
00:10:42
Richard
Oh, yeah.
00:10:44
Ben
Conundrum of the week. If you ask someone where they've been and they response, oh, here and there, is that the ultimate brush off?
00:10:55
Ben
I mean, where where are they?
00:10:57
Richard
No, you know, so so I don't, i don't think so.
00:10:59
Ben
like What exactly is
00:11:00
Richard
I don't, you know, yeah, it's, It's interesting, isn't it? I i like...
00:11:08
Ben
what what exactly is here and and where exactly is there? i'm keen i'm keen to die
00:11:13
Richard
mystery yeah know It's you know? I think it's keeping the mystery alive.
00:11:15
Ben
No, I'm keen to know.
00:11:16
Richard
Like, i don't know, do you do you de list all the things? I mean, i think...
00:11:21
Ben
Yes, yes.
00:11:23
Richard
Do you?
00:11:23
Ben
who's the Who was the first person who let such a silly response to be allowed into the...
00:11:23
Richard
LAUGHTER
00:11:28
Ben
what one if I'm not asking because I want you to tell me here and there.
00:11:32
Richard
yeah
00:11:33
Ben
That's a rubbish answer.
00:11:35
Richard
It is, i you know, maybe, yeah. Or this and that, you know, what have been up to?
00:11:40
Ben
No, no.
00:11:40
Richard
you know.
00:11:43
Ben
What's this to find that? i want the facts.
00:11:47
Richard
Ben needs the facts.
00:11:47
Ben
Which is, given that we do no research on this show. Although, but at some point, I'm probably going have to stop saying that because we we every now and then
00:11:55
Richard
I know,

Closing Remarks and Teaser

00:11:55
Ben
i every now and then, I do have to check.
00:11:56
Richard
yep. You actually do do research, yeah, yeah.
00:11:58
Ben
Yeah, I do have to check some stuff because, you know, I don't want to look like a complete novice. Every time I turn on the mic. Yeah.
00:12:07
Richard
but
00:12:08
Ben
Just most of the times. Hey, that's it, Richard. Listeners are being BCC'd on our week. To our listeners, thanks again. The links are in the show notes, especially to to Dan's podcast. Go and check that one out for sure. In next week's show, we're going to dive into the benefit of a bad opinion.
00:12:27
Ben
Now, happy Mother's Day to mums out there.
00:12:27
Richard
Oh, yeah.
00:12:30
Ben
Let's see you next week. Bravo, Charlie Club, out.
00:12:35
Richard
that's the pod.
00:12:38
Richard
That was my oldest voice.
00:12:40
Ben
It was awesome. Thank you very much.
00:12:42
Richard
Thank you very much.
