00:00:08
Richard
Welcome to the Bravo Charlie Club podcast, making you 12 and a half minutes more awesome each week. He's Ben, I'm Richard. Let's go. Ben, how are you this week?
00:00:19
Ben
Awesome, mate. Absolutely awesome. And Argentina have joined us. So that's buenos dias for good morning, I think.
00:00:27
Ben
I've i've got that right.
The Fully Awake Project and Anonymous Quotes
00:00:29
Ben
um Hey, mate, I've been thinking, the Fully Awake Project, the idea is that we can have just some random thoughts that you know of stuff we've been thinking about. I've got a few quickfire ones for you um just to see just to see.
00:00:43
Ben
How about this? I was thinking about changing my name to Anon because, you know, think of all the cool quotes you'd immediately get credit for. You know how it's got, you know, that has this lovely quote and then it says a non underneath.
00:00:56
Ben
And I'm like, if I change my, does that work?
00:00:57
Richard
it on me. How would your signature look? I don't know. I'm not sure it stacks up.
00:01:03
Richard
i think um I think, yeah, I think you probably had better ideas, but like I'm good to go.
00:01:08
Ben
all right. All right.
Vision Boards and Technology Use
00:01:11
Ben
um this This year, my daughters made vision boards. Now, I'm not a vision board kind of person, but I was so proud.
00:01:20
Ben
Being um Gen Z, as they did them digital using Canva or whatever it was, but I asked um one of my daughters for the file and i went and got it printed for her because ah I felt like it should be hung on the wall.
00:01:32
Richard
Oh, yeah. It's like A3.
00:01:35
Ben
you Yeah, hundred percent yeah, 100%. Are you a vision board kind of carne guy? Is that your thing?
00:01:39
Richard
I love them, actually. I'm into the vision board. I like it. Yeah, getting all the pictures up there, the things that they represent to you and having it as a something that you walk past that's in in your day in a physical form. I think it helps.
00:01:53
Richard
I mean, you still got to do the work, right?
00:01:53
Ben
You strike me as a vision board. Yeah.
00:01:54
Richard
You still got to do the, like, you don't just get a vision board there and you just, I'm just going to sit back and all that's going to happen.
00:02:01
Richard
Like manifesting just comes naturally.
00:02:01
Ben
I've got that Ferrari. yeah
00:02:03
Richard
Yeah. You need to actually get out and do the work.
00:02:05
Ben
yeah No, you've got a picture of a Ferrari.
00:02:06
Richard
But yeah, exactly.
00:02:12
Ben
ah oh okay. That's a bit disappointing. and maybe Maybe it's not up my alley after
FaceTime for Sign Language: A Tech Marvel
00:02:17
Ben
all. um Hey, in terms of using technology, have a listen to this. I at a cafe and I saw a young man using FaceTime to sign language.
00:02:29
Ben
And I just thought that, I just thought it it was something I've never obviously had had to think about, but just imagine the improvement of, you know, access to his community that he would have through that technology.
00:02:30
Richard
that is cool. How cool. Yeah.
00:02:44
Ben
I just thought what a wonderful, wonderful use of technology it must it must be ah in that circumstance. Yeah, so...
00:02:51
Richard
fantastic. I love it.
The Dopamine Hit of Recommendations
00:02:53
Ben
and And as I get older, um you know, I used to get dopamine hits from sporting events and stuff. And we'll talk more about sport in the conundrum of the week. But I i realized that I actually get dopamine hit from making a great show or book recommendation to someone.
00:03:09
Ben
And I made a recommendation recently to a friend and he said, texted me back said, that was one of the best things I've watched in ages.
00:03:17
Ben
Thanks the recommendation. Totally up my alley. I've read a couple of books also and I've loved them. And and I got that message and I was just like, huh, look at me. Like it was just, if it it it felt really, really good.
00:03:30
Ben
um So i was I was quite happy that you could make ah a show recommendation to someone and get the same sort of feeling as winning a sporting event. So that's ah a good good thought to take into my later years with me.
00:03:45
Richard
I love it, Ben. Makes the world better. Yep.
Travel Tips for Economy Flights
00:03:48
Ben
so there you go. a few quickfire fully awake topics. But on to travel tips, mate. You had a suggestion about traveling and economy.
00:03:57
Richard
I did, yeah. And this has burnt me before. you know how they divide the plane up into up into sections and you pay a bit more for the for the seats at the very front of that section because you've got the infinite space to stretch out and you de facto claim all of that area that's off to the side of the galley, right, as an extension of your of of your legroom and your space.
00:04:17
Ben
Correct. ah I paid for that. And you do usually pay a little yeah extra.
00:04:20
Richard
Exactly. You do pay a little extra for it.
00:04:22
Richard
So don't go the A seat because the A seat often has that big bulkhead for the for the door where where they stuff in the the emergency slide or the ramp or whatever they call it on the safety things that I've seen a thousand times before.
00:04:34
Ben
And so when you say, you're talking the window seat, right? Okay.
00:04:38
Richard
Yeah, yeah, the window seat. Yeah, the A seat. And and whatever the seat is on the on the furthest side too because the the door has that big bulkhead in it and you end up with one leg bent because you can't fit it in and and the other leg stretched out.
00:04:51
Richard
And so 10 hours of that is a bit painful. So, yeah, the B or the C seat on that one.
00:04:54
Ben
Yeah, good, good. And we've discussed the Seek Guru um ah website before where you can go on and it'll give you feedback about the type of plane you're on.
00:05:07
Ben
So I'm sure that would be covered. We might drop that link back in the show notes um because, yeah, I'm pretty sure that one that one would would would get a mention about having some restricted space there.
Listener Feedback: The Burning Toast Dilemma
00:05:21
Ben
Hey, listener feedback, this is a good one. Listener BH wrote in with some feedback for for Bravo Charter Club. He said, after years of success, I'm now burning toast due to guessing and thinking about minutes on the toaster dial like I need something to else to overthink.
00:05:39
Ben
And I put i put it to Listener BH. They just need one of those new toasters that we were talking about a few weeks ago.
00:05:45
Richard
Yeah. Auto toast. Yeah.
00:05:49
Richard
Pantone colors, your little Pantone chart. I want it to be this color brown.
00:05:54
Ben
Are you burning toast yet or are you you still you still got it covered?
00:05:59
Richard
Still good. I'm good.
00:06:00
Richard
Well, you know, it depends. I think we're we're always changing the dial around all the time because sometimes you're getting sourdough. Sometimes you're getting normal toast. Sometimes it's frozen.
00:06:10
Richard
Sometimes it's not. You know, yeah, all these, it's complicated.
00:06:15
Richard
All these things come into play, right?
00:06:17
Ben
I think it's black and it's it's blackm magic, mate.
00:06:17
Richard
Toastology, toast tech. Yeah.
00:06:20
Ben
ah I don't know how our toaster works. You just sort of put it in and yeah yeah and hope for the best.
00:06:22
Richard
Brown magic, perhaps.
00:06:27
Ben

Debating What Counts as a Sport
00:06:32
Ben
in the show notes. Now, the Conundra of the Week, I alluded to going to talk about sport. The question I have is what has to happen for something actually be considered a sport?
00:06:43
Ben
Like what makes something a sport? And now oh I recall Alan Border, the former Australian cricket captain, he was once asked if there was any sports that he didn't get into. And he responded that he respected most sports, but he thought that if you could win an Olympic medal for twirling a ribbon, we may have lost the plot. Now, he wasn't disrespecting the talent. and I've watched those floor routines, and especially the ones with the ball and the hoop. they' They're actually quite incredible.
00:07:10
Ben
But it does seem quite subjective in terms of you know the the marking ah of it. um So here's my question. I heard someone um who is referred to as being a professional beach tennis player.
00:07:24
Ben
Now, is beach tennis actually a sport? And if beach volleyball was the first mover, are all of our sports just going to end up on the beach and if that's the case should bravo charlie club be the first mover and so we can become world champions of a beach sport for a day and because there's probably going to be someone better at anything we choose so i hereby challenge you to a beach 10 pin bowling game and whoever wins whoever wins is the world champion um
00:07:52
Richard
Beach bowls. I think it's, I think it's got some legs, I think we could work, there is already a lot of stuff that you have to carry down to the beach with your umbrella, tail stuff and all this stuff.
00:08:01
Richard
So I think, I think if it's going to get any traction, it needs to come in some like little carry trailer or one of those kind of, I think it's merch.
00:08:08
Ben
Think of the merch. Think of the merch. Okay, so, but we were talking about this off air and you you told me.
00:08:11
Richard
Exactly. Exactly. um But beach tennis,
00:08:16
Richard
Beach tennis, is that have they just reinvented badminton there? Because you can't you can't bounce the ball, right? It's not going to bounce on the sand.
00:08:24
Richard
So what, I don't know, like it's it is it with a smaller foam ball or something?
00:08:32
Richard
Like how does it, do you play it with badminton rackets?
00:08:33
Ben
I don't know. i was asking you. It's my conundrum.
00:08:36
Richard
Tennis, yeah, I don't i don't know.
00:08:37
Richard
I have no answers.
00:08:38
Ben
But we were talking off air and you told me you told me the IOC considers chess a sport.
00:08:44
Richard
IOC does consider chess a sport. Yeah, i know So, um, fascinating, right?
00:08:47
Ben
My original question stands. what What is
00:08:50
Richard
What does that have to be?
Inventing a New Beach Sport
00:08:51
Richard
Well, I guess the IOC, IOC has to sanction it, right? they're the people we've got to, uh, got to get on board.
00:08:54
Ben
they have to... They have to sanction it to be an Olympic olympic sport.
00:09:00
Richard
Yeah. Well, I guess that's, ah that's probably a big feather in your cap, right?
00:09:01
Ben
All right, so I'll write to them and and propose beach ten pin bowling and um we can show that there'll be merch involved and I'm sure...
00:09:03
Richard
You're trying to get your sport classified as a sport. You need the, uh,
00:09:14
Richard
I wonder if they give you an official letter back, like if they're obligated to reply to everybody who sent something in.
00:09:20
Richard
We should totally do that, right?
00:09:20
Ben
you know Fastest no ever. Yeah.
00:09:26
Richard
Thank you for your submission while we regret that we can't reply to every e email we receive. Yeah.
Reflecting on 'The Best Thing Ever'
00:09:36
Ben
Last week we we asked what what do we mean when we say nothing would make make me happier? At Christmas I visited my parents and at one stage dad was packing his jacket into a bag and it's one of those jackets that folds up into a bag and he said it was the best thing ever.
00:09:54
Ben
And i was like, that's a pretty big call, like to say that a jacket that folds up into a bag is the best thing ever. And so I'm interested to know ah from you next week what actually is the best thing ever.
00:10:08
Ben
I challenge you to do some research.
00:10:11
Richard
Whoa. The best thing ever.
00:10:12
Ben
There's the R word, the R word coming out, mate. The best thing ever.
00:10:16
Richard
Can you eat sliced bread? i don't know. ah
00:10:20
Ben
Well, geez, it all rolls into one with our toasters. and we can
00:10:24
Richard
Doesn't it? doesn't It's all connected. It's like everything's connected to something.
00:10:28
Ben
The world, the woo. Very good. hey that's it, Richard. Listeners, have been BC's on our week. Next week's show, you're going to tell us what is the best thing ever. See you next week. Bravo, Charlie Club, out.
00:10:43
Richard
And that's the pod.
