Mystery of Cleopatra's Tomb

00:01:10
Speaker
Time for our fun fact of the day.
00:01:13
Speaker
Did you know Cleopatra's tomb has never been found? Cleopatra was, of course, the last queen of ancient Egypt who lived over 2,000 years ago. Old stories tell us she was buried with her lover, Mark Antony, somewhere in the city of Alexandria in Egypt, but nobody has ever found them.
00:01:34
Speaker
Which is kind of surprising since we see her so much in pop culture. Right.

Kathleen Martinez's Quest for Cleopatra's Tomb

00:01:38
Speaker
Recently, there's been some exciting news about this mystery. A Dominican archaeologist named Kathleen Martinez has spent almost 20 years looking for the tomb.
00:01:49
Speaker
In 2022, she and her team found a huge tunnel hidden underground... while looking for her tomb at a place called Tapasiris Magna, which is about 30 miles from Alexandria.
00:02:02
Speaker
They think this tunnel might lead to where Cleopatra is buried. What's really interesting is that Kathleen Martinez is kind of going against what other archaeologists think.
00:02:13
Speaker
Many disagree with her and believe Cleopatra was buried in the city where she ruled. Kathleen believes Cleopatra chose to be buried at this temple because it was dedicated to Isis, an Egyptian goddess that Cleopatra admired and tried to be like.
00:02:31
Speaker
Just last month, they found an ancient underwater port connected to this temple. Some archaeologists believe that her tomb will never be found.

Speculations on Cleopatra's Burial

00:02:41
Speaker
There's even a theory that the Roman leader who defeated Antony and Cleopatra may have purposely hidden where she was buried so people wouldn't visit her tomb and treat her like a hero.
00:02:52
Speaker
But Kathleen Martinez thinks Cleopatra was smart and picked a burial spot where her enemies wouldn't think to look. I love a good mystery, and that would be very exciting if they solved that this year.

Travel Debate: Crooked Forest vs. Eternal Flame Falls

00:03:04
Speaker
I agree.
00:03:06
Speaker
All right, let's move on to a quick round of this or that based on today's theme.
00:03:13
Speaker
This or that, which would you rather visit? The crooked forest in Poland, where hundreds of pine trees mysteriously bend at perfect right angles just above the ground, or the Eternal Flame Falls in New York, where a natural gas leak keeps a small flame burning continuously behind a waterfall?
00:03:36
Speaker
Ooh, the crooked forest sounds kind of cool, but but I think the waterfall and the flame behind it would be really pretty to see in person. It does sound really interesting. We're so close. I don't know how we've never gone to see it before. Yeah.
00:03:49
Speaker
It's like a day trip. ah um I don't know though. I think I'd have to go with the Crooked Forest. It just sounds... I feel like it would be like going into like a folktale or something.
00:04:02
Speaker
Okay, this or that cold

Mystery Case Debate: JonBenet Ramsey vs. Zodiac Killer

00:04:04
Speaker
cases. If you could solve one of these notorious unsolved mysteries tomorrow, which would you choose? The Zodiac Killer Case or the JonBenet Ramsey Case?
00:04:15
Speaker
I would definitely choose the JonBenet Ramsey case because i remember we were about the same age when that happened. And I don't know, that kind of haunted me a little bit. And I just, I need to know.
00:04:27
Speaker
i need i do to know what happened. I too. think i I would want to solve that one too. I just think it's so strange that she was found literally inside her house, in her own basement. Who was bold enough to do that? It was so bizarre. I gotta know. It's all just very bizarre.
00:04:40
Speaker
But yeah, I hope while her dad's still around, they'll figure it out. That's true. I think he's still working on it. We shall see.
