Fun Fact: Home Alone's Fictional Gangster Movie

00:01:11
Speaker
Now for our fun fact of the day. Do you know the name of the fictional gangster movie that Kevin McAllister watches in Home Alone? It's called Angels with Filthy Souls.
00:01:23
Speaker
A lot of people thought it was a real movie, but nope, it was filmed specifically for Home Alone. It does have a similar name to a real gangster movie from 1938, though, called Angels with Dirty Faces.
00:01:36
Speaker
Apparently, in the original script, Harry and Marv were going to be watching this movie in prison at the end of the film, realizing Kevin McAllister tricked them. But it never ended up being filmed.
00:01:49
Speaker
And here's another fun fact. The actors who played Johnny the gangster and Snakes were originally cast for the opposite roles. The actor who played Johnny had recently gotten knee surgery and couldn't perform the dramatic death scene of Snakes, so they swapped roles.

Game: 'This or That' with Christmas Gifts

00:02:05
Speaker
All right, let's jump into a quick round of This or That based on today's theme.
00:02:13
Speaker
This or That. Bad gifts. Would you rather get the leg lamp from A Christmas Story or the subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?
00:02:26
Speaker
I would have no use for the leg lamp. Um... And I know jelly of the month is probably not popular either, but I would have to go with that. At least I could do something with that. You know, make some English muffins or PB&Js. That's true. i mean, how many flavors can they give you for 12 months, though? But I'd be curious to see.
00:02:47
Speaker
But if it's like Smuckers or something like that, I mean, could still use it. Nobody wants like grocery store jam. Yeah. But oh my gosh, we sound like jelly snobs.
00:02:58
Speaker
ah it like No shame. I don't know. leg lamp is pretty stylish. I think I'd have to go with the jelly of the month club too. it Sounds more exciting.
00:03:08
Speaker
Okay.

Debate: Griswolds vs. McAllisters

00:03:09
Speaker
This or that, which dysfunctional Christmas family would you be a part of if you had to choose? the Griswolds or the McAllisters? I think I would choose the McAllisters because I'd probably get a lot of a alone time away from their dysfunction. Because they forget about you.
00:03:28
Speaker
And then I just could just stay home in like a really nice house by myself or go take a New York vacation by myself and stay in a really nice hotel. That sounds nice. So think I'd have to go with the McAllisters. Yeah, I think for the same reasons, I would go with the McAllisters as well.
00:03:44
Speaker
I mean, you wouldn't have a dull day with the Griswolds, though. That's true. it would be It would make for an interesting life.
