Well, blessings and welcome to Grace Talk. This is Apostle Eisham S. Cordery, Senior Pastor of Grace Temple Church and the General Superintendent of Grace Temple Fellowship of Churches in Jamaica and in the U.S. We're so grateful and thankful for you to take time to be with us and to fellowship with us on today.

Reflecting God's Goodness in Life

00:00:39
Speaker
Today, I want to just tell you that God is so good.
00:00:44
Speaker
The Lord is a very good God in spite of the attitude of the world toward the Savior, in spite of some disgruntled church members, in spite of some who have forsaken the Lord because he didn't come quick enough or didn't do what they wanted him to do. If we are in the right place with him, if we are in the right
00:01:12
Speaker
then God is a good God. God is a good God. Certainly, if we are living a life of sin, we are not one who can testify that the Lord is good. But if our life has been changed, if we've been transformed by the blood of the Lamb and our faith in Christ, then God certainly becomes a good God. That doesn't mean that things don't happen, situations occur, praise God. But in the midst of all of that, God shows himself
00:01:41
Speaker
to be good.

Conditional Love and Divine Favor

00:01:43
Speaker
Those of us who are in a real relationship with God, we've concluded that fact that our God is a good God. There are some really good requirements that we must have in order to enter into a right relationship with Him. His feeling of love for His creation is not unconditional. He feels the love for all mankind.
00:02:10
Speaker
But the expressions of his love are certainly conditioned. Amen. God will not show favor when a lack of love has been shown to him. But when you show God love through the word, through the scriptures, praise the Lord in certain scripture, teach us how for this, the love of God that we do his commandments, that if we live upright, according to God's word,
00:02:35
Speaker
then he certainly will prove himself to be good. In fact, his goodness is an expression back to us of his love and is the result of the affection he has for those who feel the same affection to him.
00:02:51
Speaker
Listen what Proverbs chapter 8 verse 17 says, and I hope that'll quell this misconception of God's love being totally unconditional. It really is not unconditional. Praise God. Proverbs 8 and 17, I love them that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.
00:03:14
Speaker
And so we understand the context of love here is an affection for us. So when God is only returning the love that his creation has given to him. And if we show God that we dislike him, or he's not in our favor, or he's not something we adore, then certainly we should not expect
00:03:35
Speaker
for God to return good things to us.

Kindness, Goodness, and Moral Virtue

00:03:39
Speaker
So the key difference between kindness and goodness is that kindness mainly involves being generous or considerate and helping others, whereas goodness involves righteousness in action or doing what is right. Goodness refers to the quality of being virtuous or morally good.
00:04:01
Speaker
Also, this is the exact opposite of evil, and so we understand God is certainly a good God. The 119th Division of Psalm verse 68 says, thou art good and doest good. Teach me thy statutes. Simply put, God is good in his character and his action, and you become good because of his character and his action.
00:04:28
Speaker
So God's goodness is not determined by what man thinks is good, even though we want to force God to comply, come into an understanding of what we want when we try to cause God to change. But the reality is that we don't have that capability because God is a sovereign God. God does not have to change from man. Man must change to meet his Creator. He'll never conform to your idea of good.

God's Sovereignty and Human Adaptation

00:04:57
Speaker
Amen. This is why the world that has such a carnal thought and a carnal mind finds it difficult to understand the goodness of the Lord because they want God to be good in their form. But God is only good in what he determines to be good. God is good in his love toward man. He's good in his sovereignty. His standards are good.
00:05:19
Speaker
His power is good. His wrath is even good. His law is very good. His grace is good. His mercy is good. His correction is good. His decisions are good. What he does is good. And what he does not do is not good.

Embracing God's Consistent Goodness

00:05:42
Speaker
He is just good. Whatever he allows is a good thing.
00:05:48
Speaker
Psalm 34 and 8. O taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man that trusted in him. And as I leave you tonight, I want you to know his goodness is everywhere. We just need to reach out and grab a hold to it. His goodness is right where you are right now. Whatever you need from the Lord, if you will love him, if you will, if you will honor him, he will in turn bring good things into your life.

Closing Blessings & Future Invitations

00:06:17
Speaker
The 33rd Division of Psalm, verse 5, He loves righteousness and judgment. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. God bless you. Grace and peace be unto you. This concludes our segment. We pray in the hope that what you just heard blesses and encourages you. Please join us next time on Grace Talk. Until then, Godspeed.
