Elder D. Anthony Ray on God's Promises

00:00:20
Speaker
Hello, I'm Elder D. Anthony Ray and welcome to Grace Talk.
00:00:24
Speaker
Today, I just want to encourage you and let you know that you can stand on God's promises. You know, it has been said that a promise is only as good as the person who keeps it. And although man makes many promises, the reality is that man does not always keep the promises that he's made. It's also true that even with good intentions, man does not possess the power
00:00:54
Speaker
to guarantee that the promise He has made will come to pass, even though He may intend to keep it.

The Assurance of God's Promises

00:01:03
Speaker
However, to the contrary, God is not man.
00:01:07
Speaker
You see, unlike man, God possesses power and ability that guarantees that everything he has promised will come to pass. See the Bible declares in Numbers chapter 23 verse 19, God is not a man that he should lie.
00:01:26
Speaker
neither the Son of Man that he should repent. Hath he say it, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? You see, as believers, we must have confidence in what God has spoken both about himself and his promises.
00:01:45
Speaker
We can stand unshaken knowing because of who God is, whatever he speaks will in fact come to pass. So today I just want to admonish you to stand on the promises of God. The questions then raise themselves to be, why can we trust God to make good
00:02:14
Speaker
on his promises. And why can we be assured of being able to stand on any promise God makes? Well, if we look at the scriptures, they actually give us several reasons that I'd like to share with you today on why you and I can absolutely stand on the promises that God has made.
00:02:37
Speaker
The first reason is because God's word and his oath are both unchangeable. You see God's unchangeable nature makes his promises trustworthy and something solid we can stand on.

Trustworthiness of God's Character

00:02:52
Speaker
Hebrews chapter 6 verses 16 through 19 puts it this way. It says for men verily swear by the greater and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
00:03:05
Speaker
wherein God willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath that by two immutable things in which it was impossible for God to lie, he might have a strong consolation who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.
00:03:29
Speaker
which hope we have as an anchor for the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil." You see, immutability means that God is unchangeable in His character, in His will, and in His promises.
00:03:48
Speaker
You and I as believers can have confidence in God's reliability because of his unchanging nature. It's impossible for God to lie. Whatever God speaks has to come to pass. And if he places an oath on that which he has spoken, then that oath is unchangeable. You see, not only is God unchangeable, but God is also faithful.
00:04:15
Speaker
You see, without wavering our hesitation, we can hold tightly to God's word because of his faithfulness.
00:04:23
Speaker
He is reliable in keeping his promises. Hebrews chapter 10 verse 23 puts it this way. It says, let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering, for he is faithful that promised.

Faith in God's Power

00:04:39
Speaker
Lamentations chapter three verses 22 and 23 says this, it is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because his compassion's fail not. They are new every morning.
00:04:51
Speaker
Great is thy faithfulness Lastly second Corinthians chapter 1 verse 20 says this for all the promises of God in him are ye And in him a man unto the glory of God by us. God is a faithful God Lastly not only is he faithful but what God promises he is able to
00:05:16
Speaker
to perform. You see, no matter what you're in or no matter where you may find yourself, your faith should declare what God has promised. He is able to make a reality. Paul says in Romans chapter four, verses 19 through 21, and being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead.
00:05:44
Speaker
when he was about 100 years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb.

Abraham's Model of Faith

00:05:50
Speaker
He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God and being fully persuaded that what he had promised
00:06:03
Speaker
He was able also to perform. You see, Abraham's faith caused him to look beyond the reality of his circumstances and focus on the promise that God made unto him.
00:06:18
Speaker
His faith did not cause him to become blind to the reality, to the deadness of Sarah's womb, to his 100 year old age. However, his faith did cause him to be undaunted and believe the word that even the messengers of God came to confirm when they said, is there anything too hard for God?
00:06:44
Speaker
Today, I want to ask you that question. Is there anything too hard for God? Surely, as we've just read the scriptures, let us know. The answer is no. There's absolutely unequivocally nothing too hard for God.

Encouragement to Hold Faith

00:07:01
Speaker
And I want to encourage you on today that because God is unchanging, because he is faithful, and because whatever he has promised, he has the power to perform, stand on the promises of God. I don't know what promises he's made to you. However, I do know that as believers, we must have faith
00:07:28
Speaker
We must hope, we must continue until the end. Knowing this, that he that hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Continue to stand on God's promises.

Conclusion and Blessing

00:07:45
Speaker
Be blessed in Jesus name. This concludes our segment.
00:07:51
Speaker
We pray in the hope that what you just heard blesses and encourages you. Please join us next time on Grace Talk. Until then, God speed.
