of all things.

Can We Reconnect with Divine Sensitivity?

00:01:27
Speaker
Today, we're going to talk about desensitized, encouraging you to don't be desensitized. The question is, once you have become desensitized, is it possible to become re-sensitized if you would? Is there a way to change your heart to hate what God hates?
00:01:53
Speaker
and to love what God loves once you have become desensitized. Summer is vastly approaching, and as the weather heats up, many will seek out the enjoyments of stepping into a swimming pool across the nation. Pools take me back to my childhood.
00:02:17
Speaker
Being tall most of my life I had no need to learn how to swim. I would just walk in the water until the level of the water came to my chin and turn around back and forth over and over again walking in the water.

Societal Influences on Spiritual Sensitivity

00:02:34
Speaker
Another memory about swimming pools is the immediate reaction of the piercing cold water as I stepped into the pool.
00:02:44
Speaker
I immediately wanted to step out of the pool, the cold water being shocking, colder than I expected or wanted it to be. But to avoid the comments and not to miss out on the fun from my family, I continued down each step leading me deeper into the pool. First, my foot.
00:03:10
Speaker
As I stepped deeper, went down further, now my knees. After a few minutes, I continued to move slowly down, stopping for brief periods until I was submerged to my shoulders. Each step was shocking.
00:03:32
Speaker
Each step I became more comfortable with the cold water. My body began to accept gradually what was initially shocking. My body became numb to the cold water. It's in the same way that we've become comfortable with the ungodly behavior of this world.
00:03:56
Speaker
and become desensitized from having conviction or even speaking up or out about it. Desensitized to what God hates because the culture of today says something contrary about how God and his believers should feel.
00:04:15
Speaker
desensitized what once alarmed us what once alarmed us noun amuses us it now amuses us yes you've seen it in the media in the entertainment world that's presented to us in our social groups and on social media and even in the world's church
00:04:39
Speaker
these alarming attributes and attractions to the unnatural affections. Can you imagine stepping up to the pool, knowing that the water in the pool is cold, knowing what God hates, but there is a crowd that's already in the water?
00:05:01
Speaker
that there is a majority already accepting the culture in the church. And they're not just accepting it, but they're trying to encourage you and to excite you to come on in. It's not bad in here. You don't even feel it after you've been in here for a while. Everybody's in here but you come on in. You can come on

Maintaining God's Standards

00:05:27
Speaker
in. It's just cold for a little bit.
00:05:31
Speaker
and we hear and we feel them pull and we step right in and with every step we become more desensitized we become more numb we become more mute more carnal and less discerning but church i want to encourage you today
00:05:53
Speaker
Don't let the world don't let this culture or even this church desensitize you from the things of God. The God things.
00:06:04
Speaker
And how His Word teaches us how we feel about them should be our focus. It should be what we hold on to. It should be the foundation that we trust that is still standing sure. It's 2 Timothy 2 and 19 that tells us, nevertheless,
00:06:26
Speaker
the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal the Lord knoweth them that he is, and this is the part we like, and let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity, depart from
00:06:45
Speaker
iniquity. Everyone who names the name of Christ must depart from anything that goes against God's standard, anything that goes against his standard of holiness, anything that goes against his standard of righteousness, anything that goes against his will,
00:07:04
Speaker
and his way. And if we truly desire relationship, if we truly love the Lord, if we truly want to have spiritual discernment, then we will depart from the iniquity that is in the world. We will depart from anything that's not like him. Spiritual discernment cannot come from a polluted mind.
00:07:31
Speaker
desensitized people will have corrupt and carnal minds, and their discernment will be corrupt and carnal. We should be a people that hates what God hates, and we should be a people that loves what God loves. The word is so clear for us. In Psalm 97 it tells us, let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful.
00:07:59
Speaker
ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. It then again tells us in Romans 12, it says, love must be sincere. Hate what is evil, cling to what is good. Psalm 34 picked it back up and says it this way, turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. We hear over and over time after time where the Bible gives us encouragement and
00:08:28
Speaker
Proverbs eight and thirteen and Amos five and fifteen. Jesus even picked it up in the New Testament where he said that we are in the world but not of the world and John seventeen.

Role of the Holy Spirit in Spiritual Sensitivity

00:08:42
Speaker
He says to this to the father but now I come to you and these things I speak in the world
00:08:49
Speaker
that they may have my joy fulfilled in them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that you should take them out of the world but that you should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world just as I am not of
00:09:17
Speaker
the world in the world but not of the world it is okay it's all right for us to be in the world because he has left for us a comforter while we are in this world the holy spirit the holy spirit which is so critical and crucial to the believer because he is the one
00:09:39
Speaker
that helps us with the convictions. He's the one that keeps us on track with God's plan. Without the Holy Spirit, we are just numb to sin. Without the Holy Spirit, we are desensitized to the culture and what the world presents. We are completely desensitized without the Holy Spirit. It's Hebrews 3, 12 through 13 that says, be careful then,
00:10:06
Speaker
Dear brothers and sisters, make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving. Turn you away from, turning you away, excuse me, from the living God. You must warn each other every day while it is still today so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God. This passage here in Hebrews is all about stain alert.
00:10:33
Speaker
staying aware and staying conscious at all times so that we do not allow our conscious to be seared by exposure to sin.

Is Resensitization Possible?

00:10:44
Speaker
So the question still remains, once you have become desensitized, is it possible to become re-sensitized?
00:10:53
Speaker
Is there a way to change our hearts to hate what God hates and love what God loves once you have been desensitized? Well, I come to give you the answer today. The answer is yes, you can become resensitized. You can become more sensitive to the things of God. And first, in order to do that, you have to repent. You have to ask God to forgive you for
00:11:21
Speaker
being comfortable in the midst of things that he hates. You have to ask God to help you and ask him to forgive you and to help you to be more sensitive to what he loves and what he hates. Not only do you need to repent, but you need to recommit.
00:11:40
Speaker
recommit yourself back to reading the word of God, recommit yourself back to prayer. It's important that we build this type of relationship with God and it's the only way that we can get to know him through his word and get to know him through communication prayer with him. So you must repent. You have to recommit
00:12:03
Speaker
And finally, you have to repeat this in your mind daily that I have to be sensitive to the things of God and the things that are not like God. So you repeat this process daily. You be aware and conscious so that you will not slip into being desensitized once again. Again, I want to encourage you. I want to encourage you on today
00:12:31
Speaker
Don't be desensitized.

Closing Prayer and Encouragement

00:12:34
Speaker
You don't have to be desensitized. You don't have to shut up and be sat down. You can stand up and speak up about this culture, about this world. Don't be desensitized. Ask God to make you more sensitive to his will and more sensitive and more bold to speak up real quick. Let us pray.
00:13:00
Speaker
Lord, thank you for being God and God alone. We ask that you help us to trust you and your power and your providence. Help us, O God, as we put our total faith and confidence in you. If you would, Lord, open up our hearts to your word and help us, O God, to be sensitive to your will.
00:13:24
Speaker
and to have a conscience that is sensitive to what your movie is. God, we pray that you strengthen us in your hope, strengthen us in your love, strengthen us in your joy, all by your spirit.
00:13:41
Speaker
Search us, O Lord, and know our hearts. Test us and our thoughts. Point out anything in us that offends you and lead us along the path of everlasting life. Help us to be more sensitive to this world we live in, more sensitive to your word and your spirit. God, help us, O God, as we're more sensitive to the word
00:14:07
Speaker
to be bold about speaking up and standing up against it. Help us to be unspotted by this world. O God, we pray that you help us, O God, to not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Keep us as we embrace sound doctrine
00:14:30
Speaker
Help him save the loss and encourage the save. God, we thank you for this even now. We appreciate you and honor you in Jesus name. Amen. God bless you. Thank you for your time today. Thank you for listening to Grace Talk. We pray that something was said that would encourage you to go further and farther in your journey with the Lord. Thank you again. Grace Talk, grace and peace.
