Micah's Relocation and Separation

00:00:03
Speaker
In late December 2022, or early January 2023, Micah left Myrtle Beach and went back home to Kansas. This was after her November 2022 hospitalization, where she decided to separate from her husband, John Paul.
00:00:21
Speaker
What do we know about these two to three months?

New Beginnings in Kansas: Church and Community

00:00:25
Speaker
Whose decision was it for Micah to return to South Carolina and her marriage? Let's talk about it. Micah was from Wichita, Kansas. Her sister still lived there and she stayed with the sister during this time. Before she left, JP's counselor had suggested that the couple separate for a year. It appears that Micah planned on being in Kansas for a while.
00:00:50
Speaker
Micah met Shailin French and Victoria Shirley through a small Bible study group at her new church. They also served on the worship team together. Micah and Shailin bonded immediately over escaping abusive relationships.
00:01:06
Speaker
Shailin felt like Micah minimized her situation and made it sound like Shailin's relationship was much worse than what she had gone through. The friends got very close very quickly.

Friendships and Church Life

00:01:18
Speaker
During her time in Kansas, Micah inserted herself into any aspect of church life she could. She joined church groups and sought opportunities to get to know members of the new church.
00:01:30
Speaker
She was using her social media more as a means of connection, but she wouldn't text too much. Shailin and Victoria described Micah as a person who always wanted to make the world a better place, even if it was just through touching individual lives.
00:01:46
Speaker
Micah was happy. Micah wasn't willing to share too much about her marriage, but she did drop some clues. She suggested that her husband was older than her, and she had some stepchildren that were closer to her age, whom she very much missed. She tended to water down her experiences of abuse.

Hints of Abuse and Control

00:02:06
Speaker
She was nervous that she was still being followed, however.
00:02:10
Speaker
Micah did share with Shailin that JP would force her to watch quote, unholy acts, but wouldn't give more details. At one point, when Micah needed her inner ear monitors for performing at church, JP refused to send them to her, blaming the cost of shipping.
00:02:29
Speaker
To Shaylin, this was a small form of control JP could still hold over Micah at that time. Victoria and Shaylin saw no signs of mental illness in Micah. Victoria is a nurse, and she saw no red flags that would point to serious mental illness.

Therapy and Health Concerns

00:02:46
Speaker
Micah did express that she was very excited to get plugged in with a therapist in the area, finding an appropriate medication, and getting an accurate diagnosis.
00:02:56
Speaker
She was asking about the possibility of hormonal imbalances impacting her mental health. She was making plans with new friends. She wanted to take trips, take care of her health, meet new people. She was laying a foundation for a new life in Kansas until March 23rd, 2023.

Sudden Return to South Carolina: Coercion?

00:03:16
Speaker
On that day, Micah texted her church friends. Women got one message and men got a different message. The text the women got read, quote, good news. I get to go home. I've been reconciled.
00:03:30
Speaker
In the text conversation that followed with Shailin, Micah says she really shined on stage. The group was concerned, but Micah seemed happy. But they did have misgivings. Hindsight is 20-20, of course, but now Shailin and Victoria believe the text messages they got sound more like how JP texts and not Micah.
00:03:50
Speaker
We know that he had taken her phone in the past, but the group didn't know that then. One man shared that his texts said, quote, don't ever contact this number again. Now people are wondering if Micah actually left on her own accord or if JP coerced her back to South Carolina. She left Kansas very quickly. Shailin recognized JP's face when she learned about Micah's death and wondered if he had been at her church before Micah left.
00:04:19
Speaker
Another question we can ask ourselves is, if anyone was following MICA, who was it? JP? One of JP's minions? Or could it have been bigger? Are we looking at perhaps FBI involvement? Or even someone affiliated with organized crime?
00:04:37
Speaker
was pressure coming down on JP to control Micah, who may have known too much. Someone may have been watching him and knew that Micah not being with him was a liability.

Suspicions of Manipulation by JP

00:04:50
Speaker
This, coupled with JP's known abuse, would be more than enough reasons for JP to attempt to coerce Micah back to South Carolina with him.
00:05:01
Speaker
Could he have convinced her that her and her family would be safer if she consented going back with him? Are there multiple levels to truth to why she went back? Shaylin realized she had been blocked from Micah's Facebook page after Micah had left. A few months later, she texted Micah to check in. Micah responded with a short, things are good, I'm fine text. And then Shaylin never heard from Micah again.
00:05:29
Speaker
On March 10th, 2024, JP preached a sermon where he revealed that he went through two years of texts on Micah's phone. He said he found 18 people who had reached out to Micah to tell her, quote, if you ever want to talk about your husband, you can talk to me and I will keep it confidential. He shared that two of the 18 people were men and said that this behavior is akin to quote, a demon talking.
00:05:59
Speaker
We should be mindful of the words used when we are examining conversations between JP and anyone, but especially Micah. Micah's friend, Charlotte Corn, believes that Micah returned to South Carolina because things were starting to reflect badly on JP.

Impact on Church and Regrets

00:06:17
Speaker
Micah was always worried about the congregation of Solid Rock Church, and was concerned that her leaving JP would lead to members of the church leaving Solid Rock, and she loved her church. Did JP take advantage of Micah's adoration of her church family?
00:06:34
Speaker
What we do know is that the Kansas congregation that was left behind is grieving Micah. Shaylin says that she would have fought harder for Micah to stay if she knew how bad things had been for her. Today, Shaylin shared a theory that she believes JP's antics in the last few months are serving as a distraction to the bigger story.

Theories of Distraction and Criminal Ties

00:06:57
Speaker
She believes JP didn't end Micah's life, but is involved in the orchestration of it.
00:07:03
Speaker
She thinks we need to be watching JP's associates and remember that there have been allegations of JP being linked to a sex trafficking ring. We share this opinion with Shailin. We have suspicions of something much larger happening and that some of the things JP has been doing in the media is to distract from these bigger things going on.

Motives for Returning: Divorce or Investigation?

00:07:28
Speaker
There is another possibility. Could Micah have returned to JP with the goal of gathering evidence? Evidence to, number one, support her testimony in a divorce and or, number two, to blow the whistle on an even bigger criminal enterprise. Are there forces at play that are attempts at distracting us from this bigger picture? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
