Hello everyone, welcome back to the Amazing Rewatch. We are Jessica and Sadie and we are covering The Amazing Race Season 17 Episode 3. We were in Ghana last episode and we are staying in Ghana for this episode.

So it's not... That's only 30 minutes. Yeah. So they they're pretty close together. um When Brooke and Claire get to that boxing academy, the clue there is roadblock and it says, you've got a rocky road ahead.

So... is that what you okay yeah usually it's like a question like yeah who's ready for a rocky road or who's so yeah um brooke brooke was really excited about this yeah apparently she like trains for boxing or something but she was like i'll do this one can i do this one yeah and she did pretty good yeah um it's the roadblock is learn to prepare oh learn to properly wrap your hands in like the the boxing wrap type of stuff, and suit up in the training gear. Next, you must work on the speed bag for 60 seconds and then jump rope for 60 seconds.

Yeah. To receive your next clue. This one, it's pretty easy. The hardest part is like wrapping the hands. Yeah, and it doesn't ever show anybody really struggling with that. It's just the time it takes to do it. I think there was one person, I can't remember who, that had to kind of like undo a little bit and start over, but yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. It just takes a little time. And the jump rope, I think, because you have to go constant for 60 seconds and you can't stop or mess up. And I think only like two people had to start over. So it's very easy as they do this.

Teams are on their way. Jill and Thomas' taxi. I actually really liked this part because he gets out to ask for directions and he gets back in. and like you know We see a lot of teams be super impatient or rude to their taxi driver. but they were like Because the taxi guy gets back in, they're like, do you know where we're going now? and He says, yeah. and He's like, sorry. They're like, that's okay. Thanks for asking and thanks for doing it now before it got too late. you know so They were really nice about it and I liked that. Yeah.

So Thomas we've had like both sides of Thomas so far. He's been like not the nicest and he is also kind of nice. We're only in episode three. Yeah. So what did he do that was not very nice. I don't know if remember that.

He wasn't talking very nice to Jill on the first episode. It wasn't a lot though. Okay. no I don't remember that. We watched the first episode so long ago. Not compared to Chad, yeah Stephanie.

And they've improved a lot. Yeah. And in this episode, we get Nick being awful. To Vicky. To Vicky. Yeah. So we'll get to that. But... um Chad is one of those ones that as he's doing the jump rope, he's like trying to have like these fancy feet and like show off and it messes him up. So he has to start over. But um Connor and Jonathan arrive as well as Kevin and Michael. Kevin's going to do it and Connor's going to do it.

so they They left last, but they... um Yeah, made up some time because Nat seemss and Kat are lost. Their driver's lost. And they, on their way to the boxing arena, they see Katie and Rachel and Chad and Stephanie leaving. Mm-hmm.

And they try to get directions from them, but they don't help them. Yeah, but then they, like, stop in the middle of the road. Yeah. And their taxi is blocking the other two taxis from being able to leave, and they're, like, yelling. I think the taxi driver's just so confused. Yeah. Like, thinks that he's supposed to be following these people, but he's not, and they keep telling him where they're supposed they're supposed to be going to this place. Yeah, it's really confusing. So they have a hard taxi situation.

ride to this and they keep like touching him yeah i was like stop touching him you're freaking him out because they're like sir sir sir can we turn around can we turn around right here and he's like no we can't turn it was like a one lane small village road and he's like no we can't turn around right here and then i watched the first part of this episode like last week and then i just finished it tonight and i think i missed a little bit because i'm At my next notes are saying that Connor and Jonathan get to the supply depot.

no, everybody just kind of, that's about did the roadblock pretty good. Yeah. Like nobody really has any issues. Nat and Kat were the last to arrive and Nat's going to do the roadblock.

Um, And and they they finish it. And then that's next is Jonathan and Connor. about just said Conathan and Johnner. Conathan and Johnner get to the supply depot. And the clue there says choose a pair of wheelbarrows and load it with construction supplies.

Then deliver the supplies to the Asebi DA primary school and give it to the foreman to get your next clue. And it's been important that the clue says a pair wheelbarrows.

um But they do it right the first time. They deliver it and get the clue. And it says, enter the village classroom and be tested on African geography. So they have to like sit with the students and have to pick out Ghana on the map.

I thought that they – because, like, the camera shows, like, the map of Africa in, like, every country. And I was like, oh, they're going to struggle if they have to place every single one of them or even just a few. But all they had to do was Ghana. Yeah. Yeah.

But yeah, they just have to do Ghana and some people do struggle with that. think think we would not have a hard time with that one. No. It's also interesting if you're flying to a country, you should look at where it or it is. I know. Like the little maps on the back of the airplane seats yeah show like where you're going.

So they get the clue to, they get the country wrong on the first try, but they get it on the second try and they get the clue for the detour and the choices are bicycle parts or language arts.

So bicycle parts is they have to play a children's game seen throughout Africa, which is rolling a bicycle rim with a stick over a soccer field of and it's like kind of uneven.

So if they can roll the rims all the way down the soccer field and back without falling, the school children will give them the next clue. Mm And then language arts is choose a proverb containing eight highlighted phrases. Each phrase has a corresponding symbol in the native visual alphabet known as Adrinka, Adrinka, something like that.

Then they go to a decorative cloth, like along the side of this long building and find all the symbols appearing in the correct sequence. like they have to find the spot that the symbols are appearing in the correct sequence and circle

This is also a pioneer game. Yes. So in Utah, there's this place called Cove Fort. um And we went there for like school field trips and like with our grandma a lot. Why did grandma take us there so much?

I don't know. Because it's kind of far away. Yeah. I feel like it was on the way back from Cedar City for like Shakespeare Festival. i don't know. Every time. Yeah. But yeah, it's just like this this old pioneer fort and they have activities and stuff. And this was one of the games that you can play as a kid. and it So we would know how to do this. Yeah. Yeah.

And then now we go back to a lot of the teams doing this, the the wheelbarrow. And Brooke and Claire arrived, but they only took one wheelbarrow. So they have to wheel the other wheelbarrow all the way back to get the other one. Yeah, you can't just leave it there. Yeah. If you miss something, you have to take everything that you brought back with you and pick up what you missed. And on their way back, they pass Michael and Kevin, who also only have one wheelbarrow. And they're like, don't tell them.

And they're like, did you guys forget something? they're like, yeah, but didn't say it was a wheelbarrow. Yeah. So they get there and they also have to go back. Yes. I wouldn't have told them either. no I don't think. Well, Rachel and Katie also arrive at the same time as Michael and Kevin.

And one of them sees that Michael and Kevin only have one wheelbarrow. And she's like, we only need one. And the other one's like, no, we need a pair. And the other one's like, but they only have one. And she's like, well, they're idiots. And idiots they also called Nat and Kat the idiot doctors.

I can't imagine... ever don't know if I've ever really called somebody an idiot yeah I and I would never say it on national television no or just like use the word but um It just is an example of even if you see other people around you doing something, you don't have to like follow the crowd. Yes. Like read the clue and be independent. It clearly says a pair of wheelbarrows and – Because it would be so easy to be like, okay, let's just do what they're doing.

And then there's on the other wall, yeah. On the other wall, the really long, long, long, long long wall, it has just symbols all over it. Yeah, just rows and columns of and you hundreds of symbols. And you have like a stick with a chalk at the end and you have to go and find the sequence and circle it with the chalk to get passed off. Which you already explained, but just like a little bit more context because yeah it matters. So Connor and Jonathan... They are very meticulous about it. They find the key. They, like, think in their mind. They're like, beans, la mean ladder. Kidney bean, ladder. Crazy. Chinese. Like, they kind of have it in their mind. And they go and they're like, let's look for the ladder because that's the most easy to spot. And then let's kind of go from there. And they're very methodical. And they pass it off. Do really well. And the clue says, exit the school area and search for the home of Owusu Nguyen.

So Claire looks at this like group of Ghanaian. We had this issue last time. Ghanaian. I think it's Ghanaian.

All so confused because they wait for a clue or something and nothing happens. I have loved to have been like a cameraman or like somebody on production watching this happen and they're like, oh my gosh, this is a time that I'd be like, those idiots.

But they don't see the key on the small wall on the other side. This is what everybody misses. Yeah. So they're just like circling things and trying to guess, you know, and not getting it right. And all the other teams end up switching to the other yeah task. Thomas ends up like picking up these kids' like homework. Like, is the key in here? And they're like asking people, is the where's the decoder? And they're like, I don't know what you're talking about. so And um Kevin and Michael finished the Ghana.

So it took them a long time to get back with the wheelbarrow and then yeah back again. Well, they said that... Michael is 59. He doesn't look that old, but he kind of acts that old. he is less physically capable than some of the these younger teams. There's a lot of younger teams. I think Michael and Gary are like the only one over the age of 50 probably. Yeah. and Over the age of. you Probably even 40. I was going to say over the age of like 30. Yeah.

So, yeah and Gary has been doing well this leg. Michael kind of has been struggling. And it seems really hot. Yes. So, um yeah, they do the – Kevin and Michael do the Ghana thing. They also choose language arts.

And they also have a hard time figuring out the key and the symbols. Yeah. this I mean – Connor and Jonathan found it so easily. And I'm like, what what's going on that all all of these other teams could not. Yeah. It's like they didn't even look. I think Connor and Jonathan are smart.

Yeah. They go Princeton. And they didn't have like the stress of trying to rush. All the teams around. Yeah. And being influenced by the other teams. Just like little things that they do. Seeing what they're doing. Circling kids like in the dirt and stuff like that. Yeah.

They definitely had an advantage getting there before the other team started, like, stressing them out. Yeah. But Gary and Mallory end up finishing the detour, and they check in as team number two. Yeah. So they made up – they were lasting to leave. They were last. Yeah. So they did really well.

By the time they got the name, it looked like every other country had been filled in On the map, yes. So I'm like, okay, he process of elimination. You've got it. And they're like, we felt so stupid. And it was the music in the background that you know that was playing was the Nutcracker. Yeah. It was like... No, no.

But there's been like each time that they, there's like a task that has to do with your brain. They really struggle. Yeah. But they ended it to be like, look at these dummies.

These idiots? Yes. Yeah. Yeah. They finally get it. Yeah. They finally get it. mean, because there's nothing else to choose. And they choose bicycle parts for the detour. And then and Kat get Ghana on the first try and choose language arts. Yeah.

So all the other teams have pretty much switched to the bicycle parts and are doing that. Some have an easier time than others, um but ah they start like finishing and checking in. So team number three are Chad and Stephanie.

Team number four are Katie and Rachel. And then e we have like Nick and Vicky are doing this and Nick is getting really frustrated with Vicky because he does it pretty easily.

And she struggles a little bit more and she's having a hard time and she ends up starting to have sort of an asthma attack. And that's when he thinks to himself, oh, okay, this is serious and I actually need to be nice to her. Yeah. He does change his tune. yeah He's like.

ah don't worry calm down like lift your arms above your head and breathe and stuff like that and starts helping her actually because anytime we would start coughing and grandma's like put your arms above your head yeah I don't know like when she says when he starts oh my gosh when she starts coughing and he says it he's like open up your lungs lift your arms above your head don't know but yeah she always told us to do that I don't know if there's any truth behind that um And yeah so he gets a little bit nicer. He was really, really rude before, but you know, she, she takes it very calmly. She doesn't react to his negative. which means that he must do it all the time. That's what I'm saying. Like she knows how to respond to his ah negative talking to her. Did you notice when he said like, she was trying to read the clue and she was like, I think it says this or something like that. And he's like, I don't care what it says. Yeah.

Like you just got mad of her for reading it wrong and you don't even care what the clue says. yeah So anyway, but they end up being team number five. they She has her inhaler and gets a drink and kind of calms down and they finish it. Then Brooke and Claire are team number six. And at this point, Phil is telling the teams at the mat because they're at the mat at the same time, those two teams.
