Celebration Song Change

00:00:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that playing just there was a sample of forest all over the world that was played at the full-time whistle at the city grounds. I was there recording it and it's actually my first time I've ever actually seen Forrest win under Nuno since that became the ah celebration music replacing the Just Can't Get Enough of the Steve Cooper era.

Ipswich Match Review

00:00:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm Stuart and just doing them doing this quick Ipswich review episode today. So I was there at the game. So was Marley as Forrest won 1-0. The team news for the game, so a bit of the
00:00:54
Global Sports Podcast Network
um There's actually five changes made from the previous game, so let's go live to 1.45pm on Saturday and let's hear Marley's original thoughts on that.

Team Changes and Nico Williams Praise

00:01:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, so for those who are listening and didn't didn't necessarily see that team news, so there were five changes made to the team from the previous game. It was sales kept its place in goal. Nico Williams came in at right back with Alex Moreno dropped to the bench and Olorena at left back. They did swap positions during the game, but starting it was Nico Williams at right back. Yeah, Marley's completely correct. It was Nico's first game first start for Forest since the third league game of of the season. And this is ah a squad game. We've got a busy time coming up. We've got a midweek match away against City and Man United and then the following week, Aston Villa, where Alex Moreno won't be able to play because he's on on loan from from Aston Villa. So definitely makes for perfect sense to use players like Nico Williams. I mean, Nico, he's not a chump. He's not someone who is not not of the required quality. He's just been unfortunate.
00:02:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
that Aina has been possibly the second or third best player for Forest this season, certainly in the top five of players of the season so far for Forest, which meant that Nico's right back spot has been blocked. Then on the on the left, usually it makes sense to have Alex Moreno as the left footer, um but for Forest did lose the last two games. They weren't Moreno's fault, of course, but you can't keep an unchanged team. You need to give the other players at least a sense that they will be starting and given the chance. So it was great to see Nico come back into the team. He did actually win the sponsors player of the match in in the stadium. I would would have would have picked him as well, to be honest, um because it was will come to the game itself later, but it wasn't necessarily um the best game. It was a very professional performance and energetic fullback is part of that energetic performance.

Defensive Strategy and Player Form

00:03:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
There's Murillo and Milankovitch again in in in central defense. So again, we've talked about rotation just then with the full backs. The centre backs are in such good form together as a duo that maybe it is but it's for the best to keep letting them grow and grow and grow with a caveat that there might be the the idea to add an additional centre back into that team as opposed to resting one of Murillo or Milankovitch, but we'll come come to that shortly.

Attacking Lineup Adjustments

00:04:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
midfield two. Yates kept his place and it was actually Dominguez was dropped in favour of Elliott Anderson. Anderson usually a more attacking player but he was trusted in the two with with Yates because I guess that was the idea from Uno to attack and not just have the two two sitters Yates and Dominguez. Front three are from left to right. Hudson and Oye, Gibbs-White back in the team after missing Arsenal and Giotto Silva coming in, as Marley said, for his first start, something we've been calling for in pretty much every episode we've done. Not because, uh, Ilanga has been so yeah bad this season. I mean, bad is perhaps unfair, but his goal involvement is down to just two assists, that wonderful pass for Hudson-Adoy's winner at Anfield, and then the free kick cross for Murillo's goal in the Newcastle defeat.
00:04:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
And so he hasn't quite looked at his explosive best. And as I've said, when I've been part of this argument in every episode I've ever done to include Jota in the starting lineup, it's been purely because you don't sign a player firm to make 38 sub appearances. You bring a player from a different country. You give him time to adapt. You allow him to go into the team. That's what he's done. He's been playing longer and longer substitute appearances. His first one was just in stoppage time.
00:05:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
and then last week against Arsenal we came on at half time so his first start was well deserved and he of course went for his penalty early in the second half and up front the other change to the line that was Chris Wood coming back in from Taro Aouwini as Marley said it just proves that Wood wasn't dropped for the previous game he was just rested after having travelled all the way to the Pacific Islands to play games for New Zealand and we did discuss in our previous episode Marley and myself why featuring in those games was of so much importance to him.

City Ground Traditions

00:06:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
So that's the team sheet and the next important thing in and any city ground match day experience is of course Mull of Kintyre. Here's Marley's recording of that Spainting Me moment at the world famous city ground.
00:07:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
There is a play on repeat function on Zencaster, our sponsors and software provider, and I'm very tempted to hit that. And the rest of the podcast can be as listening to Mull of Kintyre for the rest of the episode. It's always a fantastic moment hearing that at the city ground.
00:07:38

for any Forest Home game, including the women women's games. So if you are in the area and looking to see something different at the city ground, the women's team play every league game there at home this season and including enthusiastic renditions of Mullah of Kintaya here.
00:07:55

So again, so we'll keep it keep it short and the whole whole team of us will be back for and but more more detailed episodes later in in this week. because Of course, we've got Man City away, Manchester United away, so we need to do crossovers with fans of both Manchester teams, as well as more detailed reviews of Forest and what we what we think that that the Reds can look to do into January and beyond. But yeah, regarding the the game, I think it was just a good professional 1-0 win.

Winning Penalty Decision

00:08:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Ipswich were good. They were very organized. They didn't let us get too much into the game. We didn't dominate and get that 2-0 or 3-0 win that we'd hoped for when we discussed in the preview episodes. um But we were good and well organized too. Ipswich is star attacking the threat. So Leif Davis and Mario Hutchison and Liam Delapp, again who had been
00:08:50
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah pegged as the danger man in the previews, in in the advanced episodes we did, they were kept completely at bay through those excellent performances from from the fullbacks, Aynan Williams and of course another good central defensive display from Murillo and Milankovitch. Our goal came from a penalty won by Giotto Silva. I mean they've been talk on social media amongst other fans that he was trying too hard to impress on his first off, that maybe some of his energy was not perhaps directed in the best way when he was running, he was taking players on in the first few seconds of the game and on a rampaging run that didn't lead to anything but he got the fans off there off their seats. But now I think he certainly more than justified his inclusion in in the team for that first Premier League start, ah winning the penalty which Chris Wood duly dispatched.
00:09:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
But it was given after a VAR check to confirm that it was a foul. I mean, for me, I was sat in the upper Trenton. So in that goal where the... It was scored, and I thought to myself the VAR check was to check. It was even inside the area. It looked like a clear foul, but it wasn't to me necessarily sure whether it was inside the box or out. But luckily it was, and Chris Wood dispatched it home.
00:10:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Then, yeah, there was never really the clear chance for the second goal. You'd have that one chance from Aina that was cleared off the line. That didn't come from a sustained run of pressure or in a sustained ah what wave of attacks. There was a bit of time, maybe minutes 50 to 60, where I thought, oh yeah, we'll get into this now. And unfortunately, you kind of kind of peated out, I would say. And it was which, yeah, they didn't really look like scoring an equalizer, which again,
00:10:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
We, after all those two defeats, its it's only a good thing that we were able to get a nice professional 1-0 win against a relegation struggler, whether it was just to go down.

Season Outlook for Forest

00:10:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
I don't know. There are a few bad teams in the Premier League this year. But if we want to be one of the good teams and not even in the conversation for the relegation battle going forward, then yeah, as I said on um the Friday forecast episode, then we need to be winning games like this.
00:11:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
And we did. um it's It's not a problem that we didn't, didn't thrash it, is Ipswich. It's certainly okay to grind out the occasional win, but it's important we got our defensive salinity back. I said last week that I didn't think we did have the second best defensive record in the league anymore. Turns out we still do, despite those concessions against Newcastle and Arsenal. So it's great to see how, how we're continuing to grow into the game, grow into the season and get ahead of this very tricky December. Yeah, I think it's looking,
00:11:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
possible. It's looking good that we can at least be in in the top half at the turn of the year. I think that will be represent a successful start to the season, this is a successful almost first half of the season because yet we've had been in relegation battles all the previous December. So even if we aren't successful in our Manchester double header or Bill as a tricky opponent, Brentford two Spurs, of course, on Boxing Day.
00:12:05
Global Sports Podcast Network
finishing the year in the top half, which I think we will, will represent a very promising, a very good start to the season.

Upcoming Tactical Changes

00:12:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Back to the game then, back to the Ipswich game, so we've discussed the team, so um the, so Marino did come on for for Williams, Sosa, Elanga came on um out wide and Marato came on um for for Gibbs-White and Dominguez of Anderson too, so Anderson gives why it's not yet performing nine to playing for 90 minutes, but it was insignificant that Marato came on to play for that back three. So I did mention earlier that it was contradictory, that he was happy for Nico Williams to come into
00:12:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
break up the Aida and Moreno as the full backs, but I didn't want Murillo and Milankovic broke up at centre back. But what could happen is Marato could start in that three in the upcoming trickier fixtures. We haven't actually conceded a goal with Marato on the pitch. So yeah, why not test that, test that theory, giving more and more time on the pitch and see how long that can stay for. I think that will be the big discussion discussions on this podcast across this week. When is the time to go? Go for three at the back or do we you do exactly what we did against Liverpool in September and aim for those three points in one of our trips trip to Manchester. I mean, it's definitely strange now to think that we're more worried about United than City. That's certainly a long time since anyone's been able to say that about about football in Manchester. But yeah, with City having lost four Premier League games in a row, as well as the Champions League ah collapse against Firenord and being knocked out the Carabao Cup, this is
00:13:46
Global Sports Podcast Network
a very good time time to play them. And yeah, if Brighton and Bournemouth and Spurs have been able to beat them, then why not Forest? We did our first ever meeting with Reuben Amorim on Saturday. That would also be another interesting test of our credentials as we reach the the midpoint of the season and whether we're going to be a mid-table team, a top half team, or a European challenging team.
