Nottingham Forest: From EFL to Premier League

00:00:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome to Daily Forest here at GSPN. Now we waited to record this episode tonight ah rather than this afternoon because we wanted to make sure that we could say that Forest are fourth in the Premier League. Marley, how good does that feel?
00:00:25
Marley
Amazing, absolutely amazing. There were times in a few years ago when I would have been really excited about being fourth in the EFL Championship and that the thoughts were placed in the playoffs. So being fourth in the Premier League and having a chance to qualify as it stands for the UEFA Champions League is magical.
00:00:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, it's crazy how fast expectations, or maybe not expectations, but probably hope for now is the better word. I don't think we're quite yet expecting to qualify for Europe as such, but no, you're right. Just two or three weeks ago, we were saying, let's keep this up. We'll get a good top half finish, but now fourth on the table, 16 games in. It really is beginning to feel that um the forest fan should be dusting off the passports.
00:01:11
Marley
Yeah, I need to get a passport, a new passport because mine expired and I just haven't needed it.
00:01:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, that's clear. First world problems, isn't it, that now all of a sudden there is quite possibly at a very, very real need for all of us to go on a you European tour. So let's start by looking sort of before the game. So we spoke on Friday with with Craig of of Daily Villa.
00:01:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
And between the three of us, we all predicted it would be a close game. The selection of um Dominguez ahead of Yota Silva almost made it feel that Nuno also thought it would be a tight close game.
00:01:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
So how was your thoughts when you yeah saw source saw that team?
00:01:55
Marley
Yeah, it was a
00:01:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Did you think that was Nuno shutting up Sharp or do you think it was just a did different tactic rather than necessarily a defensive tactic?

Coach Nuno's Tactical Mastery

00:02:06
Marley
As I said on the TikTok video I filmed, I was really confused by it. I didn't know if we were going to see a 4-3-3, like usual, with a different winger, or if we're going to start a 4-4-2. And if we were going to start a 4-4-2, I didn't know why we had a oney-a-langa on the bench. You were more likely, I'd say, to start through the middle than Callum was. And rather than 90, my question wasn't really answered. Because there was one point at which I thought, all right, let's have a look at the formation. We've only got three at the back. Who are we missing? in Why is Nico Williams playing as a number nine? And a few minutes later, like, right, let's try and figure out the formation again. Why is Gibbs White at centre back? So it just felt like anyone can play anywhere they want to, if they feel like it'll help the system, help the team. You saw Nico Williams at nine. You saw Gibbs White in defence. You saw all the midfielders cutting out to the wings. It was kind of put players where we need them to do a job. but
00:03:05
Marley
and I do think it worked perfectly because we played some very good football, especially in that first half.
00:03:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
I was going to say the in the first half I thought we would skip over because there's not not so much and in the way in the way of incidents and all the incidents and action in the game was in that second half but that you're right that doesn't take away from the fact that this fluid interchanging positions of the team were present in the first half. It was certainly a we went tofu toe for toe with Villa and we did not look like the small lower team. we Certainly held our own against Champions League, that's the better.

Controversial Penalty Debate

00:03:43
Marley
Yeah and there is one incident to get into from the first half and it's Aston Villa's penalty claim from Elliot Anderson on Morgan Rogers. ah My opinion on that is maybe the tuck on the arm was enough for a penalty but if a referee originally he had given us a free kick for Elliot Anderson's shirt being pulled off him by Morgan Rogers so I guess that kind of cancels it out.
00:04:08
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah I mean it's an interesting one. I i completely agree that the first foul was done by Morgan Rogers so the whistle should have been blown when he did the foul but then had the referee given the penalty I mean he can't rule for free kicks on VAR so it would have been a very interesting conundrum for VAR. Are they just saying was that penalty yes or no because obviously he can't of course just give a regular foul by VAR so I'm glad got it wasn't given. I think it would have stood had it been given, I don't think VAR would have overturned it, but he definitely was contact from Elliot Anderson, but the referee, a younger referee who I think was only in his second Premier League season, did seem to have a very good game and let let a lot of things go, so you're right it's interesting that if it happened to us, maybe we'd be more up in arms about it, but I think I'm comfortable enough saying we kind of got away with it.

City Ground Atmosphere & Key Plays

00:05:00
Marley
yeah and um I guess yeah I would have been frustrated if it was against us but in this occasion I guess two wrongs do kind of make a right
00:05:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
you And the atmosphere in in the stadium, Marley, a little bit like a ah a great city-ground occasion under the lights.
00:05:19
Marley
Yeah, I was ah always under the lights at the city ground. The atmosphere was electric. The fans, we were singing, getting behind the team all the way through. And the limbs, the celebrations after the goals were mental.
00:05:33
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and we're looking forward to hearing more about that when we get to it. um but I think you were on your social media, you were up ah upper a brine club. So when, what was your view of the Martin S save, which I've heard was said on much today is one of the best, best saves ever. So did you get, get a good view of it? Do you think it was a goal? Did it not look that impressive live? How did the save work look look like to you?
00:05:59
Marley
I was on the other end of the stadium, so originally didn't get that good of a view of it. But I originally, I a honestly thought we'd scored a goal. I thought it had gone in. I was screaming at the ref, I was going in, ref has a goal.
00:06:12
Marley
Uh, looked on the screen in Lower Bridgeford after, from, uh, up and right off after the the save had been made. Saw, but it was a very good save on the line and I still tried to claim it had gone over the line from up there, but obviously seeing replays of it in the pub.
00:06:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:06:28
Marley
What a save, if I'm honest. Frustrating it came against us, but what a save.
00:06:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, definitely. So, yeah, innovative, like the way he just hammers behind him, he stopped on the ground and that weird spinny thing just to make sure he didn't then knock it into into the goal afterwards. So, yeah, it was great attacking play, a great set piece. Nicholas Dominguez, you don't normally associate him with being being good in the air, but he certainly. um Yeah, we were kept out by a great save. Like you say, you can't can't complain because we'll just be um is stopped by someone who's won best goalkeeper in the world two years in a row and then someone who might well be troubling the best in the world rankings in the next couple of years, John Duran. He then put Villara ahead. I think it was two minutes later. but What was your thoughts on on the gold, Marley?
00:07:19
Marley
oh By the way, I still claim Samba's save at home to Leeds back when we were in the Championship is better. But John Duran's goal, look, shouldn't have stood in my opinion. ah For where I sat, I don't think you could see this from the camera, but where I was sat, you could see that Milankovic's shorts were about a mile away from where he was because they were being held onto at the waistband. i I'm still adamant that was a free kick to Forest.
00:07:44
Marley
but The header was very, very good. Nothing sales could do. The cross was all right. Header was world-class from John Veron.
00:07:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Milenkovic was just slightly out of position. Yeah, I don't think I clearly picked up on him him being foul, but no I take your word for

Injuries and Substitutions

00:07:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
it. That's likely to be the only reason why Milenkovic, who other than that had an excellent game again, was perhaps out of position. um But the player nearest to Duran was Murillo, not long after the goal. Murillo was substituted, meaning his record of playing every minute in the league all season is now over. What did you thing then Were you feeling the worst? Were you thinking, oh, we've lost Marillo, we're trying Marotto in a two for the first time. Were you going to go and on to get two or three? Or did you still think that the game was there for for the taking?
00:08:32
Marley
Weirdly, I wasn't that worried. Honestly, last season, Marillo going off, I'd have been old here, old here, this is it. But I trust fully in Marato. I trust him as if he's been starting for us week in, week out for five years and been the best on the planet. And, um, honestly, I was delighted to see that we were proven right. And he did ah play very, very well. The only thing that worried me is after none of them have played in a while, can we trust Bali or Amababadele to come on and cause the five back to work?
00:09:02
Marley
But obviously eventually Willy Bolly did come on into that five back and he did prove that we can trust him because he was exceptional as well.
00:09:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I did i did like Bali in his brief brief brief cameo. He did um didn't look rusty, he wasn't beaten, he was the same strong, confident Willy Bali that we remember from from last year.
00:09:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
But know with 1-0 down and Marillo and Yates off, um we got that first equalizer after a bit of bit of sustained pressure. So again, we didn't let let the game turn. we We did stay in it, and we got the first equalizer that was disallowed from Chris Wood turning in and Anthony Alaincacross. You're shaking your head, Marley, onside for you.
00:09:44
Marley
very. It was never offside. You can even see on the VAR, the line, Alanga here, Defender here, but the lines were overlapping. Surely for lines overlap, doesn't matter if it's slightly what is ahead of you or not. If they overlap at all, it's onside. You cannot say it's offside but because a whisker of an armpit hair is in front. If the lines are back together or overlapping or touching in any way, which they were, it's onside full stop.
00:10:12
Marley
the a are has got this completely wrong. VR even needs to be scrapped, or even if we don't bring the daylight rule in, there has to be clear space between the lines drawn on.
00:10:23
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, the thing was, it took so long because they couldn't even find out which player they couldn't figure out which video player was even meant

VAR Controversies and Game Impact

00:10:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
to be the last man. they were It definitely felt like they were looking for reasons to disallow the goal rather than looking for reasons to wave play on and go with the on-field decision, which is definitely the frustration with VAR. It is not a technology that makes football better, it's just a technology that slows football down.
00:10:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
And it just make gives another person the chance to make a mistake or to have their opinion. It shouldn't be a game of opinions. The AR should ah say definitively, this is on the side, this is not. You couldn't say that definitively. So the goal, I completely agree, should have stood.
00:11:05
Marley
Yeah, it felt like they were either saying, oh, we want to disallow this goal. We will disallow it by any means necessary. If it wasn't that, then it was a guess as to which player to draw the line off in, which is disgraceful. If they have genuinely guessed in that situation, it's a disgrace.
00:11:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, um it's it's disappointing, as I said before, the referee, the on-field referee was was largely very good, but he was perhaps let down by by his VARs, which could have been could have been crucial for the season. So we could could be sat here now with Forrest in on the note fifth or sixth in the league, having having lost the game. And it's all credit to to

Milankovitch's Goal and Game Turnaround

00:11:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
the team and also the substitutes made by Nuno that we got. We tested ourselves down and got ourselves back into it just a few moments later.
00:11:48
Global Sports Podcast Network
um to talk about the goal and how it was from a ah second attempt at the corner, the first corner um cleared, but everyone stayed in position knowing that that quality ball was going to come straight back in from Gibbs White.
00:12:02
Marley
Yeah, it was a header from Nikolai Milankovitch, our big Serbian defender. It was a bit of a, screw it, just put it in there, the big Serbs in there, somewhere across from Gibbs White. He was indeed somewhere in there, nodded it straight at the keeper who caught the football and then dropped it over the goal line into the back of his own net and then tried to pretend he'd been stood on. So, comical, really, for Mammy Martinez, but great header from Nikolai Milankovitch, putting us into a drawing position at that point in time, giving us a very good foundation to build off because the crowd really got going after that. Villa have been chanting VAR, my Lord, VAR after the disallowed goal. We were chanting a bit of VAR, chanting back at them now. We were giving it the big gun, going at it. The crowd were up onside. It was, you could kind of feel around us if we were ever going to finally score a stoppage time winner for the first time since the championship days. That was going to be when we would do it.
00:12:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, the momentum certainly felt like it was with Ferris, as we said, we dusted o ourselves down really, really well from from the disallow goal. Didn't let it bother us at all. Continue our packing patterns of play.
00:13:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
We had Alanga, Yota Silva, all impressing on the bench. No, no need to bring on another sub. newton nu No, no, no. That's that team he trusted in that there's 11 players on the pitch at that time.
00:13:20
Marley
Thank you.
00:13:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
to get back into it and get back into it. They did, I said, with with that coal and that big, big header from Milankovitch. And then finally, Anthony Alanga, his first goal since February.

Alanga's Goal and Future Potential

00:13:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Is this the moment, Marley, the turning point in Anthony Alanga's season?
00:13:38
Marley
You never know. You honestly never know because you can't judge it because you never know if Jota Silva is going to come back into the starting lineup against Brentford or against Tottenham. If Alanga can get us another run of games going, build confidence off this, then yes, I think it could be a turning point. He's an attacker and all attackers feed off confidence a lot of time for their form. That goal will give Alanga confidence. The fact he i always got an assist will give him confidence.
00:14:05
Marley
Look, even if it's off the bench, he should get a few more goal contributions in the next few games, surely. And who knows, if he gets a few starts under his belt as well, he could become clinical again.
00:14:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's that's what all you need. That one, the goal, it was it was good. It wasn't a a long range scream or anything like that. It was more he got himself into into the right position and he was there to finish from the Elly Anderson ball. And then maybe it takes just a little bit of confidence. He's got the goal. He'll get maybe an assist perhaps next game, got another goal game after that, and then he'll be the same player we saw this time a year ago.
00:14:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
We're in those early games under Nuno. Him and Chris Wood, their partnership was on fire for that um the game game. It was Bournemouth. He set up Wood a couple of times there for the Spurs, for the Newcastle, sorry, win on Boxing Day.
00:14:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So this could be the ah re rebirth of Anthony Alanga.
00:14:58
Marley
Yeah, yeah just say it's the sort of thing you want to see from him.
00:14:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Just talk about and another then Joe Mullick.
00:15:03
Marley
is Even as a winger, he's getting into those central areas, arriving when the crook ball's coming in low across the box, penalty ready to poke it in. is He knows what to do to score goals, not just get assessed as a winger, and that is vital, I think, in our game.
00:15:17
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. um But the one other sort of talking point or many mini talking point from the goal really was Ellie Anderson on Matti Cash. Would you say that was a foul or was that Matti Cash? He was just caught out of possession. He was trying to make it look like a foul to protect himself or to, it was really just good, aggressive, strong attacking play from Elliot Anderson.
00:15:40
Marley
I can see the arguments for both sides of it really. You can see on one side it does look like there's a bit of a push there, he knocks him over, he runs into him, that's a foul, but on the other hand I do think it's more of a fair barge, like shoulder barge, challenge for the ball.
00:15:56
Marley
Shown more strength than Cash was showing and Cash has gone down because of it. I do think that was a bit of easiness as well. He was clearly looking for the foul. I do think he's been just caught out a little bit and it's a fair goal.

Nico Williams: First-Choice Left Back?

00:16:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think I think so too. I think it would definitely not a clear and obvious error to use that expression we've been using for a lot of time now due to um all this VR chat that clear and obvious error is a really common A very small vocabulary, but yet it certainly was not enough in that to to be overturned. Some other players we'll talk about, now' just over over the halfway mark, no ads today. But Niko Williams, do you think he's the first choice left back now? He even started ahead of Moreno in a couple of recent games, and he certainly did very well with Moreno being ah unavailable to play against his parent club.
00:16:52
Marley
It's a difficult one because I think the only reason you've been starting over Moreno is because we've been preparing him to start on yesterday because of Moreno being ineligible. ah I think both deserve to start really because they've both been exceptional but we've got three fullbacks now who all deserve a start so I think it's only fair we rotate them a bit.
00:17:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
So you mean you would rearrest Aina against Brent?
00:17:17
Marley
you know, rotate.
00:17:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Or something like that?
00:17:23
Marley
ah I wouldn't say against Brentford, because Tottenham is such a big game, it's such a difficult game. ah think I think I'd start one centre, I'd start Williams again, and start Williams again against Tottenham as well.
00:17:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:17:37
Marley
So, Williams and Ainer as a partnership get solid together ready. I think, I've ever seen a way, is when I'd say start Williams and Moreno.
00:17:50
Marley
See how that works.
00:17:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:17:51
Marley
Give Aina a an rest and then against Wolves away. We can try it again and after that see where we go from there.
00:17:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
In fact, I'd say it's great to have to have options and what at least what Nico has done in these games is what this the side is absolutely no no weaker by having him in. I know that he's, well, him and Aina, neither of them are left-footed, which is, again, certainly a big plus for Moreno, that he is a natural and' your left-footer.
00:18:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
But yeah, I think it's really been impressive, Niko Williams, he's been in and out the side a lot in his two and a half years at Forest, started as first choice right back, was dropped for Orea, then he came back in at right wind back as Orea moved into centre back, then last year he won his right back, placed back from Gonzalo Montiel, now he's lost it again, and then now he's maybe reinventing himself at left back again.
00:18:19
Marley
Wow.
00:18:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So it's certainly very impressive, Niko Williams is, I think he's our third longest serving player behind Ryan Yates and Tyro Arweny. So it's I think it's good that someone we've invested in and who we want ah to be there for many years to come as as a valuable squad player.
00:18:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I really like to see this mini reemergence of Niko Williams.
00:18:57
Marley
yeah Yeah, I think in terms of how Aaron has served, he's level with players like Gibbs White, Bollie, Awane, all those that joined in the first window back in the Premier League.
00:19:13
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think with Niko, because Niko was started the first day though like Gibbs White and Bali didn't come until towards deadline day but Nico was right there at the start he was in even in that first preseason so that's why technically according to the dates I think he he was the second Premier League signing at after Tywa with Gibbs White and Bali at least started that season at Wolves.
00:19:24
Marley
True.
00:19:29
Marley
yeah yeah and um and obviously he played in preseason games alongside legendary Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor
00:19:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
Of course, Lyle Taylor, another one who was on the bench in on that first day of the season. So again, I'm sure we can do many. Lyle Taylor will appear in some of our promotion season wildcard Wednesdays, which we're looking to do a series of in in in the new year. um But no, Lyle Taylor, you're right, is it is a forest legend. And so it is quite funny seeing that mix mix of players that he was still there in in that first Premier League season, although he didn't play.
00:20:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I did actually see outside the training ground, the only time I went down there in the promotion season. and sorry, in the first Premier League season, so I saw Danilo drive out, I saw Renan Luddy drive out, I saw Brennan Johnson drive out, and I saw Lyle Taylor drive out, and he had the oldest car of the four of them.
00:20:25
Marley
Which one was it?
00:20:27
Global Sports Podcast Network
His fourth car had a 20 registration plate, and the others all had a 21 or 22 registration plate, so it was a shame for him that he wasn't able to make a mark on the Premier League season, not that I disagree with that decision.
00:20:42
Marley
What call was it?
00:20:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think it was a, a land rebel, I think same car as Brandon Johnson, but a year, a year older on the, on the registration plate.
00:20:53
Marley
Oh, I see. Yeah, I do think it was unfair the way he wasn't able to actually get any chance in the Premier League. Same with Caffoo, and I think the way Joe Lolly was treated was unfair as well.
00:21:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. I mean, it's, whether it was really was Cooper, Tennessee and Joe Lolly the day they got back from the Spain preseason camp, you know, the plans or whether it was someone else behind the scenes. I don't know, but you're right. The football.
00:21:16
Global Sports Podcast Network
Evolves stands still for no one but since someone who looks like we've already ah evolved past is James Ward Prowse unused on the bench again.

James Ward-Prowse's Role and Future

00:21:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
If there are any causality in the stands get Ward Prowse on or is he already becoming a forgotten man at Forest?
00:21:32
Marley
I'd say it's becoming a forgotten man. i was ah There was one player I was calling for and that was Ramon Sosa. I did feel like Ward Prout would f throw it. ah ah I would say we brought him in expecting to be battling relegation and thinking he can produce from set pieces and we might need to rely on improving our set pieces to stay up this time.
00:21:56
Marley
Unexpectedly, we're in fourth in the Premier League and he's essentially useless up here.
00:22:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, interesting. So, I mean, that is yeah where he made his name in the Southampton team that had the occasional good season, but was mainly in the bottom half of the table.
00:22:03
Marley
right
00:22:10
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then last year, although he played every game under David Moyes, that was under a relegation battling tactic, you would say, Moyes' safety first. Defensive football is is more used to relegation dogfight almost, but it will be interesting, actually, if because he did play as a sub in West Ham's first game of the season before joining us on deadline day or near deadline day. So we can't play for a third team. So if West Ham sack Lopateki, which is possible, then I think he'll go back to West Ham and have another new manager who might have more in his plans, but he can't join a third team. So if Lopateki stays at West Ham, then he's stuck at Forest for the whole season, but Lopateki goes and I think he'll go back to West Ham and at least have one final attempt to resurrect his career there.
00:22:55
Marley
Yeah, I do you think he's more used at West Ham at the minute. um They have looked very poor, especially against us. And there is one contrast I'd like to point out between him and another player in the squad.
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Go ahead.
00:23:10
Marley
When we beat West Ham 3-0, our player unknown from West Ham, James Ward-Prowse, didn't seem to care. If anything, he you might have been a bit disappointed. When we beat Aston Villa 2-1, our learning from Aston Villa Alex Moreno,
00:23:26
Marley
was winking at the camera in the tunnel and hugging all the players and doing it a few little dances. I think he wants that bi-option triggering.
00:23:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's our. first clue maybe that maybe it's already been done behind the scenes. I mean Harry Tuffalo, I don't know whether he'll go in January or the summer, he his isn't another who isn't going to stick around much longer. um So yeah, maybe it's already known that Moreno has had his contract triggered and he has had no no reason to keep Villa fans on on side. Forrest is where he's playing now. Forrest is his new home and he was as delighted as Olaena or Elangira, Hudson and in those tunnel cam photos. I especially liked the video of Aina and Husnadoy dancing in the tunnel, seeing Marianakis back from his band and thinking, oh, boss, and giving him a huge hug too. So it is very funny to see that they're happy enough to hug Marianakis and hopefully he didn't spit on the floor near them.
00:24:24
Marley
Yeah, I don't see Harry Toflow leaving if I'm completely honest. He doesn't seem unhappy at the club. ah He doesn't seem as desperate for game time as you might think he is. I can see him seeing out his contract at Forest, either renewing it to be a backup or retiring at the end of his contract, doing coaching by the club and staying with the club as backroom coaching staff.

He's still quite young, though I think he's only 31 or 32. It's an very interesting point in terms of motivation. Maybe he'll be happier staying in Nottingham where he's settled and he's a community community champion and much love figure behind the scenes. maybe at being a a non-pelaying player, stroke player, coach would be better than going back into the ground of being a championship journeyman.

So that was interesting. I don't think he will push for a move and move in January, but I think his his contract does expire this summer. And yeah, unless he does accept an extension on on lesser terms, mainly on coaching roles, and it could well be that he goes if he just wants to continue that playing career.

But then there's another thing.
00:25:32
Marley
yeah and obviously obviously he has three kids that i think two of them are just slightly older i think they're between six and nine i think they might be seven and eight years old the boys so i think he'll want to he might want to stay put where he's settled where his kids are happy his wife's happy and his daughter will be able to grow up happy

happy and forest fan. We also saw those videos in the last year of his oldest son, as you mentioned, singing my love to Kintyre in the ah Harry Tuffleo song. So Marley, we've um got Brentford on Saturday and then Spurs on unboxing day. And then we'll talk about them in more detail in our episodes between now and then. Four points, six points. What's your thoughts?
00:26:21
Marley
Ah, I think we'll be lucky to get two if I'm honest.
00:26:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Oh, okay. I know that Brentford Way will be tough, but well why why why can't we take the game to the City Grand Unboxing Day?
00:26:34
Marley
Because Brentford are a bit of a bogey team for us, honestly. Brentford away, I don't need to get much from Tottenham Hotspur, another kind of bogey team, the only point, the only win or draw we've got against them in promotion was at a city ground in a cup, which was a 2-0 win. Honestly, especially since they're going to be on a high after beating Southampton 5-0 tonight, I do think they'll do very well again next week and we'll be walked over on Boxing Day.
00:27:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
um Interesting, I think Spurs are known for their inconsistency. I think they lose the game after they beat City 4-0, certainly they didn't win it. So, and they didn't lose to West Ham the day at the game after winning City 4-0, which is why I don't yet take Spurs seriously as a contender.
00:27:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah I think Spurs will still finish ah because at the start end of the season but that won't be 11th to 12th, it could be 6th and 7th.
00:27:22
Marley
and also They also managed to lose to Ipswich Town at home, the game before they beat 64-0.
00:27:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah Yeah, that's why I'm confident as well. I'll be ahll be over over again on Boxing Day night and I think it'll be, I don't think it'll be a walkover. I mean, a lot can happen in the 11 days until Boxing Day. There could be an injury or suspension that we pick up in in the Brentford game. Murillo and Yates did both come off injured yesterday. I think they were both, well, in Murillo's case, as we've seen, it was it was a precaution and Marato is good. He's certainly not a drop-off in quality.
00:28:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
and Yates is maybe a bit of a tactical change with Jotter put on while you might eat look different in the stadium too.
00:28:10
Marley
I'm unsure. I thought both players had looked alright by the time they came off. I think it's just a coincidence they both might have picked up a light knock throughout the game. But I think both got brought off because they're both on for their cards.
00:28:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay.
00:28:24
Marley
And if they if they'd even get another yellow before matchday 19, they're suspended for a game. I think it was more to stop them getting that second or that fifth yellow and suspended. Bring on someone who's able to take their place and then they'll be good to play again next week.
00:28:40
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, and engineers it's good good to know good to know then that they are off fit, but equally, yeah, if, um yeah, I mean, it was interesting, maybe Marillo would be rested or they'll make his things ah up a bit, and as we said earlier with putting in Nika for a start ahead of A, and everyone gets everything on the 29th, maybe one of Marillo will make it, which might be rested for an upcoming ah coming game, but you're right, it's good to avoid the suspension, even if suspension were to come, it would more than be more than dealt with,
