Introduction and Social Media Goals

Global Sports Podcast Network
Hello and welcome back to the Daily Forest podcast from the Global Sports Podcast Network. Joining me, Stuart, is our social media guru, Marley. Marley, how are you doing?
00:00:20
Marley
I'm doing very well. Hit 100 followers on TikTok at last, last night. Very happy with that. Small milestone, but a milestone all the same. And can't wait to push on and hopefully reach to 500 milestone very soon.

Sports Success and Social Media Impact

00:00:34
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely. Well, hopefully the increased success on the pitch. So nothing of Horace is also going to help increase our reach on social media. um So you've been doing your series of a top three in in each position um on on social. So for for all the 11 positions on the field, is there any favorite person who you've mentioned in one of your TikToks that you'd otherwise forgotten about that you'd like to extend to do a full Wildcard Wednesday podcast on going forward?
00:01:04
Marley
ah Eric Lehigh maybe. I quite enjoyed getting to talk about Henry Lansbury and Lewis Magoogan. Those two are always players that I enjoy talking about and today he's going to be attacking midfielders so ah there's no point telling them to listen out to that because it'll go out tomorrow morning when the tick-tock will already be up. So when you're listening to this on the morning of Saturday of Friday the 20th of December I will be doing one on left wingers, make sure to listen to that one at around four o'clock in the evening.
00:01:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
Definitely lots of exciting left-wingers to talk

Podcast Expansion Plans

00:01:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
about, I'm sure. And you mentioned Eric Lehigh, so here at the Global Sports Podcast Network. um We are ah excited to announce that we are going to be growing our presence in in the US with a few MLS podcasts and a few EPL American U-style podcasts for those listening. We also had that a yank called Lehigh back in our championship day, so do you get in touch with us to hear about more of the link between Nottingham Forest and the United States of America. But ah speaking of of that, well, um we take ah look our attention back to England and and Saturday, Somali, Brentford away. Interesting on this, um a difficult place to go, lost both the games. Last year it was the Tony return from his band moving the foam incident.
00:02:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
And the year before, it was a last minute loss in April. So just as I thought we turned the corner, we threw it away. So what's your thought on your overall thoughts of on the game on Saturday before we go into the ah details?
00:02:54
Marley
I think this season has felt really special, if I'm honest. day It constantly feels like we're doing things that we would never have expected in the past seasons. It feels like Anything that's been a story of the past seasons, the 3-2 in United has ended a curse of 3-2 losses. So it's, it's kind of feels a bit like, come on, we can do anything this season and beating Brentford who are unbeaten at home. It's definitely on that card, especially since Liverpool were unbeaten at home and hadn't conceded a single goal all season. We went to them, we beat them and they still haven't lost to any other a team in the world since.
00:03:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, that's very true. We have certainly been that team to get in the way of of records, that other teams that are trying to set this year.

Nottingham Forest's European Aspirations

00:03:38
Global Sports Podcast Network
So yeah, I think I completely agree with you that the opportunity is there to get that win, which of course would be our first ever win at the new newest G-Tech community stadium. But despite that, we'll come to Forrest Trenton, how we think Forrest will play slightly later, but Brentford, they are better without Tony and Waymo and Whissa and their new more and more fluid attack is I'd say an improvement on what they had before. What's your take on the new look Brentford this year?
00:04:12
Marley
I've obviously not seen much of the new look Brentford. They look dangerous is what I can of say. Brian and Berma really looking like a quality placement for Ivan Tony. Not even a replacement that shows how he was kind of waiting in the wings ready to step into that role. You could see in Tony's ban he did look very dangerous and obviously unbeaten at the G-Tech this season including an impressive comeback victory over Ipswich which is ah a controversial one, but it does suggest that they can be there for the taking, you know, itps which only lost to them because they had a player controversially

Upcoming Brentford Match Preview

00:04:51
Marley
sent off. So given the right opportunities, I do think we can harm them.
00:04:57
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I mean, all all runs do need to come to an end and Brentford have won every every home game, or at least are unbeaten at home. They're the hosting four fourth in the league, so if it's going to come undone at any point, it's going to be against the team who are now, and we have to say say this, we are looking to push on push on to Europe, but not in the forest, we aren't.
00:05:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
Although in a normal season, we say we're probably about an equal to Brentford on this season because we are
00:05:21
Marley
you.
00:05:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
fourth, 16 games in, it will now be a disappointment if, come 19 games in or 25 games in, we're out of these European races. Would you we also say that? That because we're so much further above the league than Brentford, we should be should be winning this, or because were only actually five points cleared. It might be multiple positions cleared. It's almost too close to call in terms of the Premier League table and who who should or shouldn't be beating who at the moment.
00:05:52
Marley
feel like it's a bit of a bit of both obviously because it's so close in points it can show that there isn't that much of a gap but with us being so much higher positions wise it just we've got a lot more to properly fight in scrap for than they have which means we'll be a lot more desperate for points but at the same time we we're not happier to accept left points and what I mean by that is yes we will be probably the more desperate to claim three points late on when, if it comes to it.
00:06:27
Marley
And if going behind, we'll be the more, oh, who we need to get a goal fast, but we'll be the happier with the point. We always will be away from home, but when you're higher up in the table, you'll be happier with a point because we don't expect to be there.
00:06:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
to
00:06:44
Marley
Any point towards staying as high as we are is a point in the right direction.
00:06:51
Marley
We just need to get to that 40 mark.
00:06:51
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think that's true. for Let's yeah takes to take a look at the of the weekend fourth. So yeah, three points clear of Villa in seventh.
00:07:03
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then there's a culture of teams including Brentford on 23 and 24. say even worst case scenario, Forrest dropped to seventh, that's the lowest we can drop ah this weekend, but equally we could go as high as as third, depending on the article. So I think if you look at a points per game, track or almost, as well as we look into the the run-ins of this clutch of fixtures, here Brent from Spurs, Everton, and Wolves before the FA Cup break, if you like, because we will wrestle ah a lot of players against Luton, we should be, we need to be looking at
00:07:37
Global Sports Podcast Network
keeping pace with the European

Season-Ending Scenarios for Forest

00:07:39
Global Sports Podcast Network
positions. We don't want it to come the end of the season, and be like, we have this called a good start. I think it's now longer than a good start. We are a good team and we're sharing it. And how do you show you're a good team? You cause um another team to have the first ever loss, first loss of the season at home.
00:07:56
Marley
Yeah. ah talking about coming the end of the season I've realized something quite interesting about our final game of the season it's home to Chelsea who come to find out the game of the season could very realistically be a massive massive game because if we need a result against them to qualify for Europe they might also need a result against us to pinch the title from Liverpool so if we could in the same game qualify for Europe and win the title for Liverpool
00:08:27
Marley
Would that not just be the funniest thing ever to be the only team to beat Liverpool at Anfield all season or at all all season and then give them the title?
00:08:36
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we will be the king makers of the Premier League. So yeah we'd have lost to Liverpool and they would have already won the Premier League based on that hypothetical scenario. But a we win the Premier League for Liverpool by beating them and also beating their rivals. Well, we, of course, we didn't didn't lose to Chelsea when we played them earlier in the season, of course, but a very good, feisty, feisty pointer at Stanford Bridge. No, you're completely right. We can.
00:09:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
look at um I think where when the pictures came out Chelsea at home on on the last day there was still probably a bit of ne negativity around Forrest thinking I have to be hosting shows on the last day still unsure of safety um that was certainly would have been the the thought in end the end of last two years but now yeah it will hopefully be for us getting and the points we need to secure the european spot and also play that position play that part in the title race and stopping Chelsea from claiming it as a as they would want to. um but they're Back to Brentford again, you' you're right, we we are looking at these fixtures now with the assumption that it should be the game to win, even though Brentford, they've of course kind of it linked to us and Brighton in a way that the only non-teak parachute payment teams to have
00:09:54
Marley
Ouch.
00:09:55
Global Sports Podcast Network
stayed up in in the last few years And what they've been impressive is that like some of them were still there in in the championship. So they've still got a some of their, jump more more of their championship team than us still there, even though they've been ah promoted, I think to two years more in the Premier League. Do you think that's a good thing that they built early and or still have more championship players left than us? Or is it just the way things have gone? We so happen to only have Yates left and they have multiple championship players left.
00:10:25
Marley
I think it's more to do with the squads we got promoted with and how they were built. Obviously our squad, the players that we would have kept, were all on loan. Some of them we didn't really want to renew, some of them we couldn't get the chance to. ah Whereas Brentford's weren't always really necessarily on loan, they had a very strong squad of players that they owned. Like for example, we could easily, if we owned them, have kept Jed Spence, James Garner,
00:10:54
Marley
Philips Incanagal, you know, maybe even Keenan Davis, but they were all on loan and some of them, the clubs wouldn't let come back to us. Some of them weren't good enough and others went through massive sagas and one got bought by Tottenham Hotspur. So it was just that. And also this case of contracts expiring, obviously Bryce Samba,
00:11:22
Marley
There was ah pat allegedly a dispute over his contract and a bonus. he yeah I think he definitely did want to be back in France for family as reasons as well, so that it wasn't really an option to keep him enter into the Premier League, even though we would have loved to. Other players we lost to their contracts, aspiring in them not choosing to re-sign, example, Lewis Graben, who again, I'd have loved to see him get at least one season in the Premier League. So I'd say it it's situational.
00:11:51
Marley
And unfortunately, our situation meant we needed a massive rebuild. Their situation meant they could carry on building from where they were.
00:11:58
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, and that's the very interesting thing about football in in general, whether you're talking about on the field play or off the field strategy, there is no right way of of doing things. It all really depends on, yeah, taking your opportunities like light like Forest that that year, um when they had a certain, they found themselves in January suddenly pushing for a play-off, so they made those extra strengthening, getting in Sam Surridge, Keenan Davis,
00:12:26
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah Sam Cooke as well, that January to really push on over the line and get to that objective which has had been looking quite unlikely at the start of the season. um So we'll take a short break we want and then we'll come to talk about our predicted teams and predictions for the game itself and then if there's time we'll mention this January and see if there's any changes we would make to forests or not.
00:12:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
unchanged team, Ben Marley, for Saturday. today i There's no no changes I would make. I know this is a podcast and we we can at least debate certain positions, maybe Moreno back for Williams, but for for me, um I like the solidity that um Anderson Dominguez sort of is in the fluid role as a eight in the right-winger um it means, and I don't think we need to bring back Yatsura or Langley.
00:13:16
Marley
Thank you.
00:13:19
Global Sports Podcast Network
So i would say I would say unchanged, how about you?
00:13:23
Marley
I would go back to the normal 4-3-3 with two out and out wingers because I do feel like against Brentford away, if we're going to get a surprise result, we need to go for it. We need to try and claim it playing our football. And I don't think we can do that by packing up the midfield. I also don't think Brentford's midfield is as scary as the other ones that we've come up against. So I don't think packing the midfield is a necessity at GTEC.
00:13:48
Marley
I think try and beat them for face on the wings, try and shut out on Bermo and we should be fine. So I'd go with unchanged from games before Villa, but a few changes from the Villa lineup.
00:14:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Okay, so the eternal question then, um so in York two, it's, you're going to Yeats and Anderson rather than Yeats and Dominguez, and then on the wing, right wing, Jota or Alanga.
00:14:12
Marley
I would probably go with Jota because not I don't want to disrespect to Langer because he's done well but I do think he's an impact sub and a very good one and I think we'll miss that off a bench from him if we start him.
00:14:31
Global Sports Podcast Network
That's interesting because that had been seen earlier in the season as Jotter's strength that he was, he was that impact step. So I mean, going forward, I mean, irrespective of form, you used to see Alanga and his pace rather than Jotter and his determination as being the asset to have on the bench rather than on from the start.
00:14:51
Marley
Yeah, I think Jota from the start is always now the way to go. Nearly knocked my laptop off.
00:15:02
Marley
That was not good. ah Yeah, I think desire to get past defenders is always going to be important and key early on in the game.
00:15:04
Global Sports Podcast Network
So passionate about a job to be in the option then.
00:15:18
Marley
Elanga's got that pace and strength. and that just grit and youth that at the end of the game, his energy carries, not only will carry us across the line, but it'll kind of like, it'll push us to get that late goal rather than having a tired or less youthful and enthusiastic player in that position.
00:15:44
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah I guess you youthful or you're being youthful and being enthusiastic is something of course you need to manage, you need to harness and then it's yeah if you can stay enthusiastic at being a server. I know we talked a lot last week with ah Craig from Daily Villa about keeping squads motivated and again Antia Lange is always seen as an excellent character um route around the pitch and off the field as well but yeah I don't like. I don't think it's great having people who are called specialist substitutes. Alanga will be wanting to win his place back in that 11 sooner rather than later. I think Saturday it will be ah Dominguez and Anderson retaining their places, but but then I think if I had to guess, basically Prodigy Nuno, I think he would start Alanga ahead of Jota if he goes for the additional winger.
00:16:34
Marley
Yeah, and I do think that Ramon Sosa is another impact sub as well. He's got pace just like a Langaras. He's not quite as strong, I don't think, but what he does have is quality. We've seen that multiple times. We saw him start against Newcastle. He looked very good. He scored the goal against Brighton to equalise, make it 2-2, and against ah West Ham United and Afrina Wynn, it should have been 4

Team Lineup and Strategy Discussion

00:17:04
Marley
-0 but Fabianzky pulled off a great top corner save from a Ramon Sosa wonder shot, really.
00:17:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, Jesus definitely has looked bright in his cameos, and whether it's just because he's adjusting to the English winter or he came from a less a less glamorous league. we Yeah, I don't think, I know that you you rate him highly, but I would be surprised if he were to start before the Lucian FA Cup game, unless there was an injury or a knock to someone else. He does seem to not quite be there. they in In the pecking order, he was always coming on as a sub after the jotter, and that's a double sub, of course. so Yeah, I think he is slightly, slightly further back. um In terms of the game last weekend, we saw Yates and Marillo substituted as a double sub. We thought in our review episode that was based on the yellow cards and nothing to do with injuries. Have you seen any updates or rumors based on that since last week?
00:17:59
Marley
no I've not seen anything on that based off that last week ah ah the only source I've seen anything about was I can't confirm it's a reliable source so as far as I'm aware I'm still on the mindset that it was just they're both warning the card away from suspension take them off the pitch Just save them. Don't get them and another yellow. Keep them reset after matchday 19 and with avoided a suspension.
00:18:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, we certainly have to have the players to be able to make make those changes and not and not risk anything. um So finally, on Brentford, before we turn our attention to January and and the squad <unk>d in general, um what's your score predictions bearing in mind when we don't allow ourselves a to predict the forest loss here on the on the Daily Forest podcast?
00:18:54
Marley
Sounding boring but one-one. I'm predicting a one-one.
00:18:59
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:18:59
Marley
Chris Woodland, Burma.
00:19:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
and I'll go for the win. I think this is our time to get that first win and the G-Tech, I'm going to say 2-1. I predict it'll be said very similar to the last week. I think we'll go behind, but show that belief that we've um really gotten instilled in the team right now and we'll come from behind yeah a to 2-1 victory.
00:19:24
Global Sports Podcast Network
So I'm torn, Marley, about January. We mentioned earlier the great work Forex did in January of 2022, where they found themselves in an unexpectedly high position, challenging for the playoffs, and then strengthened the team with those three key additions of Cook, Davis and Surridge, which has gone over the line. So on the one hand, do the same again, get three quality additions to push us over the line for European football.
00:19:52
Global Sports Podcast Network
but in which position positions I'm um' less sure. It was back to the promotion team. um We did need a digital centre back. Cooper's favourite back three. I switched it from a back two of Hughes into the back three, and the third centre back, Tobias Figuero, who was not at the level of a Warhol or a McKenna. So that's why we needed it and a clear additional add-on there. We need the competition for Lewis Graben. Keaton Davis was an upgrade on Lyle Taylor.
00:20:22
Global Sports Podcast Network
And then when Graben got injured, that's when Sarge came in. So they were three clear gaps. So that would get a raid on Figurido, an upgrade on Lyle Taylor, and further cover for Graben. That was a clear decision, but inp this January, I can't see where they need us, to be honest. Bearing in mind the PSR considerations. Word we've got now in E-In-Reserve. The centre-backs, we've got Marato, Willy Bolly, Omeubama Daily already in reserve. Midfield, we've got Danilo and Sangare coming back. where Where would you strengthen if we even need to in this coming January.
00:20:56
Marley
Honestly, I think what to look at in January is who could leave now and summer and what are we doing in terms of replacing them? I think the only position I think we really could do with someone is we could do with a striker to because of what he just hasn't really looked at when he's come on the pitch he hasn't been looking fit enough which is why I think we could do with a backup striker um on the wing
00:21:25
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah so But how do we keep this backup, sorry Marley, but how do we keep her a backup striker fit? If Tao isn't getting fit because he's not never playing because Chris Wood is so great, then how would, wouldn't that have be the exact same situation with a backup striker and his backup, but also not getting into the team because of how good Chris Wood has been playing?
00:21:44
Marley
I don't think it's, he's not fit in terms of he hasn't played enough football. I think it's a bit like, I think he's had that injury and he's just not able to recover from it properly. A bit like ri if we remember Joe Lolly had the ankle injury and after the ankle injury, he was just never the same. He got shin sprints. I think he, he just never quite got back to that level. He never quite looked fully fit again. It just feels like the same with the one he's picked up an injury. He just hasn't looked the same, hasn't looked fully fit since.
00:22:15
Marley
That we just need.
00:22:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
yeah is okay yeah in In general, yes, it makes sense, but in terms of squad building, in terms of PSR considerations, we don't need a, I would say we don't need a third striker. We can change our backup striker. I get that to one who's maybe a younger, a hungry player, like we've spoken about with Jotter and Sosa, someone who can survive on sub-cameo appearances and ah gradual instructions for the team, but they will be Hard to find. Sorry, I interrupted you when you were talking about your other other positions a couple of minutes ago.
00:22:47
Marley
Yeah, I know people are crying out for a left-footed winger. I don't know where they fit in the team with obviously Sosa, Jota, Hudson and Doi and Alanga all on the books.
00:22:58
Marley
All I could think are that of is if we do sign a cheap left-footed winger and give a half-season loan to Sosa. I don't really want to loan Sosa out, but it could benefit him if he gets a lower down in the Premier League or a top-ender championship loan.
00:23:09
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah.
00:23:15
Marley
and a left-footed winger joined Forrest. I know someone was asking about Tyler Dibbling on Twitter,

Transfer Window Signings Debate

00:23:21
Marley
which, meh, he wouldn't really get much game time for us, I don't think. And another one I would... One player I want to see leave on loan is Andrew Omobamedle. I think there's a lot of teams in the top championship bottom Premier League area who are crying out for a centre-back. And I think a loan move for Omobamedle would suit us and them.
00:23:45
Marley
the same way.
00:23:47
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, I think we'll start off with Oliver Medelli. So his only appearance this season was the Caramel Cup against Newcastle. He'll make his second appearance of the season. Epic Cup against Luton and then maybe even the moment the full-time whistle blows in that match against Luton, he'll announce he's joined Luton on loan or something like that. you You're right, Oliver Medelli needs minutes. He isn't going to get it at Forest. I don't think throwing him into, um,
00:24:15
Global Sports Podcast Network
ah a terrible Southampton team or a wee Gipps, Richard Wolves or Leicester would be a of a benefit unless they guarantee they'll play him every single game and I don't think that would happen because the fans of that club would not necessarily accept someone who's barely played for Forest.
00:24:30
Global Sports Podcast Network
I think the top half of the Championship is a good place for Omar Bamedeli to regain his confidence and probably um push up his transfer valley for a sale in the summer because we've got the guy whose name I always forget.
00:24:42
Marley
Yeah.
00:24:43
Global Sports Podcast Network
He's our line Olympiarchos. We bought him from
00:24:45
Marley
David Karma.
00:24:45
Global Sports Podcast Network
Is it Porto and St. Restrete's Olympiarchus?
00:24:48
Marley
David Karma.
00:24:49
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah, what? Him and Murato. Um, so Murilei Milenkovic, we hope to keep. Um, so I think I'm a Vamodelli learning about with a view to a sale is unfortunately the way to go there.
00:25:00
Global Sports Podcast Network
Yeah. Ramon Sosa, um, if a championship club can guarantee him that they'll start to in 75% of their games and then go for it. As we said before, if he's still.
00:25:11
Global Sports Podcast Network
getting used to living in England, sending them abroad would be counterproductive, so regular football in the championship or or stay out of the forest for M1 Sosa.
00:25:21
Marley
yeah it's um we are not having that turn on our bench again and god forbid anything happens to Matt Sells he pulls a hamstring or anything
00:25:21
Global Sports Podcast Network
The same with Carlos Miguel. um if If a championship team wants to make Carlos Miguel their number one, he can go on loan, we can recall Matt Turner or resign Wayne Hennessy to sit on our bench.
00:25:32
Global Sports Podcast Network
um
00:25:35
Global Sports Podcast Network
Again, if it's for the for the greater good of Carlos, you would have nightmares if Matt Turner was on our bench again while like
00:25:51
Marley
or he just needs a rest because he's picked up a knock, or he gets sent off for doing something completely stupid, like Samba punching that stoke, or slapping that stoke guy. I don't trust Hennessy. I don't trust Horvath. It's not fair trusting Aaron Botter, the Premier League. That's why we can't really let Kyle Osmegal leave on loan. We need a good backup goalkeeper, and he is a good backup goalkeeper.
00:26:18
Global Sports Podcast Network
like Okay, so it's not even if, I don't know, a top championship team offered him 20 league starts, you would say, no, no, no, you're staying here for two FA Cup appearances and the cover.
00:26:29
Global Sports Podcast Network
v For you it's, that's a no-go, keep developing cars from the Galarama squad.
00:26:30
Marley
I would offer them Aaron Bott. I would offer them Aaron Bott because Aaron Bott is our academy keeper. If anyone needs a 20 starts it's him because he has high potential and honestly it would be detrimental to us not having a top backup goalkeeper.
