Football Fun Fact: The Huddle's Origin

00:01:17
Speaker
Now for our fun fact of the day. The tradition of the football huddle was invented in 1894 at Gallaudet University, which is a school for the deaf and hard of hearing.
00:01:29
Speaker
Their quarterback, Paul Hubbard, is credited with coming up with the idea when they played another deaf team. He decided to gather his teammates in a tight circle so their opponents couldn't see their hand signals, which were in American Sign Language.
00:01:45
Speaker
Yes, and it caught on pretty quickly. a few years later, other college teams caught on and eventually all football teams in the country. Very interesting. It makes you wonder about the origins of other things that we think of as ordinary.
00:01:59
Speaker
So true.

This or That: Football Edition

00:02:00
Speaker
All right, let's move on to a quick round of this or that based on today's theme.
00:02:08
Speaker
This or that. Football food, buffalo wings or nachos? Oh, wow. I've been a huge fan of nachos lately with chicken, chicken or beef, and then just put some onions and green peppers on there, cheese, and then just dip it in a bunch of sour cream.
00:02:26
Speaker
that That's what I would do. What about you? Definitely twins because ah extra sour cream for sure. um I usually make chicken wings more, but I'd rather have nachos because I love yeah like adding all the toppings. like I love olives and jalapenos. Oh, you can take the olives off for me.
00:02:45
Speaker
Oh, yeah. Okay, then we're not twins. You just made it horrible. Extra olives for me. Next up, this or that tailgating games. Would you rather play cornhole or a can jam?
00:02:59
Speaker
Okay, if I remember, can jam is... the little circular thing with like the frisbee whole slot. You have get the frisbee in. Okay. Yes. um ie I can't throw a frisbee to save my life. Like but something, there's something about like the flick of my wrist just like changes every time. So like sometimes it'll go straight. Sometimes it'll go left or behind me. i don't know.
00:03:22
Speaker
So I definitely would pick cornhole. I am so much better at cornhole. Yeah. I think I like cornhole better too. I can throw a frisbee, but it's just really slow in the air. so it just doesn't, I can't say I've ever gotten it into like the tin can or whatever, but yeah, yeah I think I like cornhole better.
00:03:40
Speaker
All right, everyone.
