Welcome & Podcast Introduction

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello and welcome to the Girl I Slept in My Makeup podcast by three sisters who are at three different life stages and have three different perspectives. They're excited to learn and grow alongside of you.
00:00:10
Speaker
This is a space full of love and acceptance. No judgment because let's face it, sleeping in your makeup is more than a podcast title. It's a reminder that we all mess up. So give yourself and others lots of grace.
00:00:22
Speaker
Please welcome my three little sisters, Lauren, Megan, and Kristen.
00:00:29
Speaker
Hey sisters. bye Hello. Hi. I can't believe it's spring. Well, almost, it's not officially spring. I think to like March, when is official spring actually? I thought it was already, but I'm so confused because I woke up and it was like freezing and it was 35 degrees. And I was like, wait, okay, maybe it's not spring, but I like the cold. So like, I'm like fine with it.
00:00:52
Speaker
Yeah, we woke up and it was 64 degrees in our house. We were like frozen. but Funny. I know. But almost spring. It's spring break, technically. So that's the funny part.
00:01:05
Speaker
where I always thought March 1st was spring. I'll look it up. Let's see. It's like March 20th or something. First day of spring. Yeah, March 20th. I was right.
00:01:17
Speaker
wow Megan. Thank you.

Funny Family Anecdote: Megan's Early Riser

00:01:20
Speaker
Yeah, i woke up with Kinder has been on this thing where will go to sleep in his bed, but then he'll wake up and want to be in our bed.
00:01:28
Speaker
So I was exhausted this morning, but I woke up and y'all know our, our dad must, if if you don't know him, you don't know this, but he usually sleeps till like 12 in the afternoon at least. And this morning he was like up with Kinder at like 8am and it was just so shocking to see him up. And Kinder was like, Papa, what are you doing up?
00:01:46
Speaker
Like, why are you up so early? That's so cute. Did he go back to sleep, I guess? But then, yeah, like, I had to get back to bed, Kinder. That's so sweet. I'll take what I can get, you know?
00:02:00
Speaker
Yeah, for sure.

Podcast Return & Future Plans

00:02:02
Speaker
Yeah. Well, listeners, we came back with one episode and then we kind of the year took a little bit of a turn. We just had a lot going on. And so, yeah we're back again. Second time for 2026. But we're excited to be back recording and we have some really exciting events. you know, things planned for this year for the podcast. So we'll get into that soon. But yeah, Lauren, I know you've had a lot going on. So I know you were going to share some things today if you want to.

Personal Challenges & Spiritual Resilience

00:02:34
Speaker
I'll take the blame for the delayed start for the year. As life happens, we, the beginning of February just had some unexpected surprises thrown our way. And that's, that's life. And so while we are still in the thick of what we're going through, it's you know, sometimes I hesitate sharing when I'm in the thick of it on this type of platform anyways, but Also, I think it can be helpful maybe in some ways just to one, remind people that they're not alone in their suffering. And two, just to share some truth that I know I am hanging on to during this time and choosing every day to remember that this is temporary and there is light at the end of the tunnel. And so i just thought I would share, first of all, that ah
00:03:31
Speaker
Somebody in my life reminded me of Psalm 91. And I just would love for anybody else out there that's going through a hard time to, it's very short to just sit and read it. And I know probably every other day i have sat down over the past five weeks and read it over and over and just dug through and,
00:03:56
Speaker
um In verse one, it says he who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the almighty and God is our safe place. And that word dwells in the shelter dwells is not just like one stop shopper, you know, going to God and in emergency situations or in crisis, like what we've been going through, yeah.
00:04:22
Speaker
Dwelling is a relationship and it's not a transaction. And so I think that's important to remember that we need to dwell in him. And then the second part of verse one will rest in the shadow of the almighty. And I think for me, it's just a good reminder that true rest of our souls comes from remembering that he is the one with all the answers. He is the one with what's ahead of us and relinquishing false sense of control in our life understanding
00:04:55
Speaker
It doesn't mean that we don't need to make decisions or, you know, do the things, but just remembering who's we are and who's in control.

Faith and Suffering: Insights & Discussions

00:05:04
Speaker
So I'm just going to kind of walk us through the quick takeaways of God protects us from dangers that we can't even see. That's a promise. We are never alone or unprotected. and if there's been one thing that I have felt with all my heart and soul through the past five weeks, it's that God has never left us and he will not leave us. He will not abandon us. And then the last part of there's like four different speakers in this one short Psalm 91. And at the end, it's God's voice, God's voice. And he is promising
00:05:41
Speaker
to stay with us, to rescue us and to carry us through. And so there's been days where I've been on my hands and knees, lamenting to God, crying out to God. not even having the words and that's okay.
00:05:54
Speaker
He, he is our strength. And I think that it's in these times in the valleys where strengthens us through, through him. Ironically or not ironically, because it's totally God's timing, but I'm sure a lot of you listeners, if you're not might be familiar with Paul Tripp And he just came out with like a three part mini series and I'm still finishing the third part, but it's just so good and timely. And I just wanted to share a few of the things that I've taken away so far from that teaching and that it's, we live in two worlds, God's grace, which is beautiful and amazing and suffering
00:06:36
Speaker
And if God has done anything in this book right here, in his word, in the Bible, it is very specific and gives us example of after example of suffering. And that's, I think sometimes in our life, it's so easy to, especially when we're up on the mountaintops and going through the good times, we have these kind of expectations that when they those stick don't get met, we kind of forget, or I know I'm speaking for myself that, you know, you forget when you go back to the word, all the characters in the Bible are characters of weakness, just like us. And
00:07:12
Speaker
And they suffer like that's Romans eight. It spells it out for us. So anyways, just when life doesn't make sense, we will always preach to ourselves some type of gospel. And so to just be aware of what, what are we preaching to ourself? Because our,
00:07:31
Speaker
Our voice is our loudest voice usually for all of us. And then we always bring something to our suffering and what we bring to our suffering shapes the way that we suffer. And so I'm trying my best every day to show up in that way of continuing to worship God instead of turning into an accuser of him. You know, when life doesn't make sense, we worship.
00:07:58
Speaker
rise as God's worshiper or as his accuser. And I want to be his worshiper, not his accuser. So um these are just a few of the many takeaways that Paul has so many wise words. How do people subscribe to his? It's like, did you get this wit through the email that we're subscribed to? you Yeah. So I subscribed. It's a free subscription to receive his, he usually sends out like Wednesday emails. So I would just go to Google Paul trip ministries. Okay. And he, I actually didn't know his personal story and I'm still learning it through these videos, but.
00:08:32
Speaker
in 2014, I think it was, he became really, really sick and couldn't do anything. And in fact, well, anyways, he has a whole testimony about medical stuff and yeah a lot of similarities of what we're walking through. And ironically, the email that led me to this three part series that he just launched and it's free, by the way, he wrote it before knowing that he was about to fall into even bigger suffering than he's ever suffered before. So Like as of last week, when his email came out, he was writing it from his bed and he's the sickest he's ever been. And so he said, isn't this God's work where I am now, you know, listening to his own preaching and having to take it to heart because he's walking through the, his hardest time that he's ever gone through. So, but yeah, I just thought i'd share. and That's really cool that God brought that to you you know, in this moment, how that happens, even though it's like, feel like you're walking through something really difficult.
00:09:31
Speaker
He is showing up in like sweet ways to still, you know? Yeah. And it, he also goes through, which um he lists five reasons that Christian suffer. Cause I know in the situation we're

Reasons for Suffering in Christian Faith

00:09:46
Speaker
in you know, I have,
00:09:48
Speaker
Yeah.
00:09:50
Speaker
god and believing and and when somebody asks you why you know why why would a good god allow these things to be happening to me you know yeah and that's a very valid question that I think probably all of us yeah have asked.
00:10:07
Speaker
And so he breaks it down into five things and I won't go through all of it, but the first thing is he says, it's our address. It's where we live. We're here on earth, our own world. And so, as I said before in the Bible, suffering is promised. I mean, it's there. so that's the first thing, but number two is for our spiritual growth.
00:10:27
Speaker
And number three, to become God's messengers of comfort. And, you know, that's one thing that I actually was talking about last night. And I said, you know, i has amazing plan. If in one day you're going to be able to have a testimony where you can help others going through and suffering in the way that you're suffering, you know, and the fourth reason that Paul says is for the sake of the glory of God.
00:10:55
Speaker
And number five for our faith. And he kind of goes into much more detail in the videos on all five of those. But I do believe just, you know, i've had 45 years now of life. And so there's some perspective there.
00:11:07
Speaker
the three of us know that our suffering is never meaningless. i was like, wait, you're not 45. oh yeah yeah. 44. I'll be 45 in May. So just too, too much shy of 45. We've all lived through enough suffering that we know that it's never meaningless. And that doesn't take away from the pain or the hurt when you're in it. But just to keep that, or I know for me, I have to think about that every day. Like when I wake up, it's like, I'm here another day that it's a gift and there will, there will be purpose in this, even if I don't know what it is right now.
00:11:44
Speaker
So, yeah. And just to remind ourselves, even when we don't know what to pray, like I'm thinking back on those mornings where I've literally just cried. cried and cried and cried and cried and that God meets us in our weakness and we don't have to have the words. He's, he's here with us.
00:12:00
Speaker
Yeah. It's so good. And it's so good for you to share that with us. There's something powerful when we're declaring with our words, even though like in our feelings, like,
00:12:12
Speaker
It's probably not how you're feeling, you know, but you're declaring that God is still good. And I notice when I'm, that's why I love doing the grief release group. It's like, I don't always feel like I want to go there and encourage people, but I know that as I'm encouraging people, like God's encouraging me and they're encouraging me. It's like, God says, when we refresh others, he refreshes us.
00:12:37
Speaker
And so just thanks for sharing that. Cause I think, you know, you're refreshing us and hope I'm praying that, you know, you feel refreshed by God at the same time. So, yeah. And I hope that people no you know, I've had friends that have made the comment, like you're so strong. And I just,
00:12:56
Speaker
Like, I just want to lay it out there. Like I am so weak and it's truly God's strength, you know, wrote and relying on him. And yeah, um just remembering that our weakness is not in the way of God's work. He is not afraid of it. He knows everything. He knows we're weak. So we're really just fooling ourselves, but it's really the delusion of strength that gets in the way, you know? And so I think the more suffering that I've experienced in my life, it's like, I think the quicker that we learn to go to God and full transparency, it's really the only way, you know?

Strength Through Community & Faith

00:13:40
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah.
00:13:40
Speaker
um And then another thing too is, cause I mean, I can't tell you how many times in the past five weeks, like I've just wanted to crawl in a hole and not talk to anybody and not answer people's questions and just not talk, just kind of disappear, you know?
00:13:57
Speaker
Yeah. And focus. Cause it's been, there's been days that are just straight up survival. um i just think there's sometimes in, Obviously, we're safe people, but sometimes i think there can be power in just sharing even in the mess, in the middle of the mess, you know, because. Yeah.
00:14:17
Speaker
Well, I think people then understand that like, they're not alone, you know, because sometimes that's really hard to do. As y'all both know, like, I, I mean, i when I go through stuff, I disappear, you know, cause it's like, I, I don't even have the words. I don't even have ah strength to do anything.
00:14:35
Speaker
Like, I think it's really hard to speak when you are in the thick of it. I guess the last thing I was going to share, so and y'all know that I like to process through words, which Funny enough, listeners don't know this, but I, in the midst of everything going on, I also had a wrist injury. And so I'm without my dominant hand. And so for somebody who actually still hand writes probably every other day with journaling, i haven't been able to do that. But a couple of weeks ago i did just write down as I was processing and to remember,
00:15:11
Speaker
I don't want to forget these things, but when I haven't been able to hold myself together, God has told me when my thoughts spiraled, his words studied me. When I felt weak, he was not.
00:15:22
Speaker
As I said, Psalm 91 became my shelter. It's not just a cute verse. It's literally been my lifeline. And if you also are walking through something hard or if you're not, but you know somebody who is just some reminders that,
00:15:38
Speaker
You're not alone and it's okay to ask for help and even better accepting the help. It's so uncomfortable and I don't know why we are like that, but I have accepted help and I understand that there's,
00:15:55
Speaker
beauty and accepting that. Um, even though it doesn't always feel good to be like, sure, you know, um, and then also just cry out to him. He is near and let him carry you when you cannot, his faithfulness is real and yeah you're not alone.
00:16:15
Speaker
Beautiful. Well, thank you for sharing. Yeah. um I, uh, I hate that I couldn't come on here or for our second episode of the year.
00:16:26
Speaker
It's not in a more positive light, but if you hear anything out of this, it's just that you're not alone and suffering is a part of life. If you haven't experienced it yet, you will, or you know, somebody that will, yeah,
00:16:43
Speaker
Just to remember to go towards him and not away from him in those times because it truly makes the biggest difference. And it that's it's growth. I mean, that's how we come out stronger.
00:16:56
Speaker
Yes. Agreed. And I do think there's something beautiful about sharing in the middle because it's almost easier to share like once you're past something, you know, but people don't really feel how hard it actually was. You know, that's why i don't know. i haven't listened back to our episodes in the beginning of grief, but I know we wanted to share during that time to help other people feel less alone. so yeah. Yeah.
00:17:22
Speaker
So, yeah, I'm grateful that we got to chat with you today and just, you know, hear obviously not the details, but just like the fact that you're going through something and how you're leaning into God and in how that can hopefully, you know, encourage others to do the same.
00:17:40
Speaker
But yeah, i do feel like a lot of the times when People are going through hard things. They think, well, God can't be real. You know, if why would he allow this? And so that's, I feel like sadly and and unfortunately it's where we almost can get the closest to God because we choose to trust him even through the hardship, but it's ah like one of the hardest things to learn, i would say in life for anyone.
00:18:10
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. It can be confusing. Yeah. And, but I think the more that we learn God's character and believe, I believe who he says he is here yeah now and it it shifts, you know, the way that you look at him and and he's, like I said, he's not leaving us. Like he is here every step of the way, even though some days feel impossible. Yes, totally.
00:18:37
Speaker
but yeah. Anything

Future Endeavors & Listener Engagement

00:18:39
Speaker
else? I know Kristen had to jump for an appointment, but we're so grateful for our listeners and for just the space, you know, that we've created. and we're excited to, you know, to talk about what's to come. We do have some fun interviews. We're getting back into some interviews this year. which we always loved in the past, just being able to lift up other voices and really encourage them and what they're doing. And so we're excited for that to come.
00:19:07
Speaker
Lots to look forward to in 2026. And yeah I'm about to start a voice of God study. so I'm excited about that with Priscilla Shear and we're doing it in our neighborhood So that will be really fun. Yeah. I am doing it with another mom in the neighborhood and we just put it out there and there's like 10 plus moms that are now coming. oh I know. them So that will be really cool. Trying to think what else is going on. I would just an upstate on mindset with Megan. It's been really cool to watch what God's doing.

New Leadership Program Launch

00:19:43
Speaker
i really just had this like impression upon my heart that I was supposed to help other managers like me. So I've been in leadership at a company for the last eight years. And it's just, it kind of is like a pressure cooker of the, of a job because you have, The executive team above you, like kind of telling you what you need to do. and then you have to communicate that well to the people under you who you talk to on a weekly basis. You know them really well. You know what they're going through, all of those things. And so it's like a balance and it kind of feels like you're being smushed in the middle. yeah And I noticed there's a lot of leadership training for the executive level, like companies bring in coaches for executive level coaching. But I didn't see a lot out there for, or at least not a lot of companies hire to do executive level coaching coaching for middle managers. So anyways, I've launched a program called Mindset to Lead.
00:20:40
Speaker
And i'm it's been really cool to watch it all unfold because it's just all God because I would have never thought to put this together. It's like so, so cool. So that's really fun. So if you know of any companies or groups where they could really utilize like a leader mindset course, that has been the latest with Mindset with Megan. Still doing Mindset on the Spirit.
00:21:03
Speaker
And have a couple clients with that. But it's been cool to watch this side of it grow more for like the corporate side of things. yeah I have been in the corporate world my whole career. So yeah. thrill yeah That is very interesting because I think that's such a niche thing, but so incredibly necessary and needed because like you said, a pressure cooker, like middle management,
00:21:27
Speaker
I've seen that from the outside and for sure. i mean, not just with your job, but lots of other people where you have all this pressure coming from the top and then you're having to really relay that to your team, but, but they're the ones doing the work, not you. So it's like, yes, it's not really in your control, but you're the one responsible and getting,
00:21:46
Speaker
Yeah, it's exhausting. Yes, it's mentally exhausting. And I feel like they need if they're not seeking support themselves, like companies don't really have the bandwidth most of the time to really support them in that and especially their leaders don't have the bandwidth to like support their mental health. And dealing with that. And so, yeah, I'm really excited about it. It's I've, I'm halfway through with a company of doing this. And it's just so cool. Because what I do is I do two workshops a month, and then we do one on one. So I get to take the information I've gone over them, and then actually like apply it to their personal life, because each of them are in different types of management. And it's really cool because once we get into the like nitty gritty of it, i don't know, it's just so powerful. I see each one of them making like huge, huge decisions of like change of how they're going to lead people and lead themselves first. And I'm just so excited. I hope it's like a ripple effect for their life and the company's life. And we'll see like where it takes me, but yeah, it's really exciting.
00:22:49
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. That's awesome. Megan. God is good. And yeah i love you. i love you. And I'm glad that we got to connect and listeners. Thank you for being here. There's.
