Reflections on the Gospel of Peace Series
00:00:25
Speaker
Hey, Lulu. Hi. Last week I got KK, this week I have Lulu, and we have Holly for part three of the Gospel of Peace. I don't know about y'all, but every single week I ponder for the rest of that week on what we learned the last week with Holly.
Understanding Living in God
00:00:43
Speaker
So thank you for always bringing new levels of awareness and new thoughts, because I think sometimes I just kind of heads down am in my own world but i love these conversations to kind of help me think big picture and this last week i've really just been pondering whoa god i live in you like what does that mean and trying to really understand what that means and so i'm excited for today to go deeper but i'll pass it to you to kind of give like a summary of what we covered last week and what we're going to do today well thank you for having me back But I've worn out my welcomes. So that's encouraging for me. As always, it really is an honor to do this with you ladies. And I'm learning with you and we can sharpen each other. And that's the amazing thing about seeking out the things of God that no one person can carry the whole revelation of God. We actually
Kaleidoscope Analogy and Truth in Discovery
00:01:30
Speaker
need each other. i was telling my daughter this once, it's just kind of came to mind. I kind of see it like, have you ever looked through one of those kaleidoscopes? Is that what they're called? Where you like look through it and you turn it and it's all like refracted. So that's kind of how I see it. There has to be truth, though. There has to be the right lens you're looking through.
00:01:46
Speaker
But that's just how I see kind of discovering God and the things of the kingdom of heaven is we eat we need each other.
Exploring Our Position in Christ
00:01:53
Speaker
I need your revelation. You need mine. We need each other. So I love what you just shared, pondering that we're in Christ.
00:02:00
Speaker
You know, we talk about Christ being in us. But what does it mean that we're in a place, that we're in a person? First of all, that's... you know And we'll talk more about that today and that we're also in a place. I think that's a good jump off point. Just for the our listeners, this is a quick recap. What we talked about the first week, and I'll just super summarize it, is really um this mission that God has given me. It's not a new mission. It's just he's wanting me to hone in on it and just be bold and communicating the gospel of peace.
00:02:31
Speaker
And what does that mean, the gospel of peace? I think for so long, we feel like that means that I just... feel good, that knowing Jesus means I have peace and I don't have anxiety. And Lord knows we all need that and want that.
00:02:45
Speaker
But it's so much more than that. So that's what we've been drilling into. So first week was the that Christ makes peace for us in every way. So we've touched on that quite a bit, that we have peace with God, not just from God, not just a feeling, but this hostility, this separation we had with us and God and with each other really is removed in Christ, including this separation of heaven
Transformative Nature of the Gospel
00:03:11
Speaker
and earth. that's what it means to make peace with God. It's it's a big thing. It's an eternal thing.
00:03:16
Speaker
So that was week one. Week two, we touched on the gospel of peace very good news. super good news. that I always think of it this way. If I had good news about the gospel or about God, could probably come up with some pretty good news. But what if God said by his standard, this is good news.
00:03:35
Speaker
So this is the good news of God. And if you're God and you're going to come up with something good, it's going to blow our minds. Like the gospel has got to blow our minds. That's when we know we're getting hold of the gospel of peace is our mind is just constantly blown.
00:03:52
Speaker
um And we're entering into this good thing that God has done. So we leaned into that set week two. And then we kind of finished with now what? Right. So once you hear the good news, at least the beginning part of it, that Jesus invites us to receive him and turn ourselves into God.
00:04:08
Speaker
And we've done that. And we know that we need to be liberated. And we know that there's a heavenly reality. The question you guys left us with last week, Megan, is now what? Now what do you do? Right? Because we all want something to do.
00:04:22
Speaker
So that's what we're going to drill into this week is kind of now what? We're going to follow the story and the word of God because that's the best way to know what should it look like next?
Making Time for God
00:04:34
Speaker
What should be happening in our life as we learn to enter into this good news, this gospel of peace? Sound good? Yes. Any thoughts? you Anything you want to add? No, it sounds great. The thing that just popped in my mind is non-negotiable. Non-negotiable.
00:04:49
Speaker
ah love that. So like in what context? Well, in the context of Megan, I think you actually sent out a reading about a lot of us would answer the question of what's number one in your life. And we might say, God,
00:05:01
Speaker
But does our daily habits actually reflect that, you know? And I think that I know for myself in order to get to that place. And again, like you said, like I'm not perfect. um None of us
Overcoming Spiritual Struggles
00:05:14
Speaker
are. It did become, it had to become for me a non-negotiable to put in the time to build that relationship, to listen to him.
00:05:22
Speaker
And so no matter what, we we're all busy. And so it's actually making that non-negotiable as if brushing my teeth, you know? So just something, something that I'll do daily to create, to form that relationship and let it flourish.
00:05:40
Speaker
So good. And on it, let's just, always say this, I need to come up with a new statement that like keeping it real, it can be really hard at times. You feel like have to force yourself to, to like hear, to hear the good news again. we have to lean in again. What do I do? And like, there's this battle between our humanity and this big spiritual reality that almost sounds like fantasy.
00:06:03
Speaker
it's what it can sound like to our human mind and so sometimes it feels hard to spend time with god to read the bible to study the word to do all the things like we're trying to like lay hold of this gospel that's been laid out for us and just keeping it real it can feel really hard so i hope today that I can can give you guys some things that dismantle that so that it doesn't feel hard.
Stepping Out in Faith
00:06:29
Speaker
it would What it will feel is it sometimes it'll feel kind of scary because you then have to step out and yeah do some things and you feel like you don't understand enough. You feel like you don't have enough information, but it's by faith.
00:06:42
Speaker
And so we kind of have to like, let God flip the script on us. And the more we do that, we'll talk about this today, the more we step into and just begin to walk out some of these things that we've heard, the easier it gets because we start to have more like encounters and experiences and things that are spiritual, that are really a heavenly reality.
Role of the Holy Spirit
00:07:06
Speaker
And the more we have of that, then,
00:07:08
Speaker
obviously, the easier it is to want more of that. And the easier it is to just keep doing that. And even though I've done this for a good number of years now, I still will go through seasons where I like, okay, probably get a grip. You got to like lean back in here, stop living, you know, your own way and whatnot. Okay, so let's lean into this today. I was really thinking about how to answer your question. Now what and I do want to say this.
00:07:34
Speaker
When you look at scripture in the early church, when the disciples and the apostles preached the kingdom that preached Christ, they always preached and Christ did to the gospel of the kingdom. So it was about Christ. It was always about the kingdom at the same time. And I think in our Western church culture, that's not always the case. So that has not and helped us a lot. We probably need to get back to that. Also to the apostles would stay in a village or a city and teach for years, two years, three years or longer. So the gospel of the kingdom is not a soundbite.
00:08:06
Speaker
yeah Part of the reason we may be frustrated is we are used to getting stuff and soundbites. It's really bad. you get I will catch myself scrolling through social media. i'm like, what is happening in my brain? I don't even know what all I just saw. but So we have this culture issue, which I feel like grace God has some grace for. he He understands it's hard, where we're trying to get things in soundbites. We want it immediately, and we want to grab hold of it immediately. And I don't know, what it what do they say? 10 seconds, 15 seconds? What do you have now, Megan, on...
00:08:39
Speaker
sound bites on social media to grab people's attention. Yeah. Not long. Not long. Yeah. So, so that, so we do have to first kind of snap out of it and realize we're talking about an eternal heavenly kingdom of God. That's massive.
00:08:56
Speaker
That's majestic. that It's not human. It's spiritual. And it has to be taught. We have to spend time. Like you said, Lauren, at the beginning, we have to spend time,
00:09:08
Speaker
learning We have to become a child again. This is why scripture says you have to become childlike. So a child doesn't think they know it all. And a child is in constant sponge and learning mode.
00:09:20
Speaker
So we've kind of got to get ourselves into that and realize it's going to take time. And we're going to have to learn and walk and do and learn by trial and error sometimes. and help each other through it. So first things first, I just want to,
Childlike Approach to the Kingdom of Heaven
00:09:35
Speaker
that's why one reason why we're doing and number of episodes versus trying to cram this all into one episode. um But I think that it's super important to highlight when the gospel of Christ was shared by Christ or by the apostles and the kingdom, you know, it says that he went about teaching the kingdom of God, teaching the kingdom of heaven.
00:09:53
Speaker
When Christ died and resurrected, he spent 40 days with his disciples, with people on the earth, I don't hear a lot of teaching about that because it's such a mystery of him walking through walls and sitting and eating with them and this this mystery for us.
00:10:09
Speaker
And then he ascended. The next thing that happened was the Holy Spirit was poured out. This is the the kingdom of heaven, the government of God. I call it poured out on the earth. So the way I like to say it is God has already poured everything out.
00:10:24
Speaker
He poured himself out. He poured Christ out. Christ poured out his soul. He poured out his life. He poured out his blood and he is life. He is the resurrection. Then he poured out the Holy spirit.
00:10:36
Speaker
And I think I said it and the last episode, when I move my thinking from I'm waiting for God to come do something to, oh, I need to enter into what he's already done.
00:10:49
Speaker
i need to understand what he's already done. Then everything changed for me. So what we really need to do is enter into everything he's already poured out, including being filled by the Holy Spirit.
00:11:03
Speaker
I personally believe because I did, i think I tried to walk out Christianity for a long time without being filled by the Holy Spirit. And I don't recommend it. It will frustrate you.
00:11:15
Speaker
it will feel super religious. You know, Jesus took big time issue with people that were religious because he said, you shut up the kingdom of heaven. So we desperately need the Holy Spirit.
00:11:25
Speaker
So I want to hear it from you ladies, because I'm outside a church setting, right? So we're kind of at the public square, so to speak. ah Do you think most people have heard of the Holy Spirit or know who the Holy Spirit is? Or like, what are your thoughts when I say Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit. So growing up Catholic, I always had an awareness of the Holy Spirit. I do feel like that's something we were taught at a very young age.
00:11:51
Speaker
But I don't think it was until my adulthood that I really recognized that, oh, like the Holy Spirit's always with me and he's my helper. That i didn't really... lean into until the last five years, I would say. To answer your question, yeah i think if we were to ask just the general public, I think they wouldn't know what the Holy Spirit was. Yeah, probably.
00:12:14
Speaker
I agree. What do you think? Yeah, I agree. I think for me personally, same thing as Megan. I just think
Living as Heirs of God
00:12:21
Speaker
oneness whenever I think of the Holy Spirit, not just the Trinity, but also oneness with us and with God. Like, I feel like, I don't know. And when you were talking, it's kind of like, is what you were saying, instead of inviting God into our like chaotic, crazy lives here, do we in turn try to go into God? Like, is that what you're saying? yeah hey Well, yeah. Jesus said, come to me.
00:12:45
Speaker
Yeah. ah who joined Us join his kingdom rather than inviting him into our. He's not joining our kingdom. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Newsflash. yeah ah We're not king of our kingdom and Jesus comes, you know, as like, you know, I don't know, a speaker of the house or something like, you know, he he is king of a kingdom. Yeah.
00:13:07
Speaker
I did into him. It's we're in him and he is in us. and we And I know that we're going to dig into that more a little today, maybe even next episode. He says, come to me. And when you go through the Bible and you get to Revelation, it's the church and the bride say, come.
00:13:22
Speaker
So God has let, so Jesus is a gift to the world. God is saying, hey, people, I'm giving you Jesus Christ as a gift of God to restore you. in a relationship back to god and back to heaven and you need to accept my invitation to come and know christ to come and give yourself to christ and to come into the kingdom and learn like come into what i've done and finished in christ and what i have experienced over my lifetime is mostly the gospel well and i can't just say church right because it's not just all about a church it's just the message out there
00:13:56
Speaker
is I need Jesus to come to me. Like he hasn't already come but and I need God to do something spectacular in my life to kind of prove that he's God.
00:14:07
Speaker
This is the mistake is he's already done it. hes more about accepting and receiving what's already there. yeah I just, I just wonder if the more we focus on this, you know, listeners, like how can that change our prayer life too? i think it can really,
00:14:26
Speaker
just change our perspective on that. It will, it will change everything. That is my testimony. When I said, God, I just want to know you, i want to come to you. i want to enter into you and we'll maybe get into this episode, but probably next, the secret place that is the place of learning to go into the presence of God and the presence of God is always there, but there's a way for me to become super aware of the fullness of the presence of God that I now get to go into and stay and abide.
00:14:59
Speaker
So it's a going into him. It's a, if you can feel the difference. It actually feels very freeing. I don't know about you, but when I realized, oh, thank God, i don't have to figure out how to pull all this stuff out of God.
00:15:13
Speaker
and convince him to do good to me, i can just enter into this crazy, radical, almost fantasy, but it's not a reality of God where he his promises are yes and amen.
00:15:26
Speaker
Where? In Christ. Just don't walk in the flesh, walk and live in the spirit. So if you set if you're in the spirit, as you know, Romans 8, Megan, you set your mind on the things of the spirit.
00:15:39
Speaker
Yeah. Well, and you just mentioned Romans 8. So ironically, I'm doing a study on heaven that I shared in the first episode or the first series here on heaven by Jennifer Rothschild. Highly recommend it. Today's video session was titled living a Romans 8, 18 life. Really?
00:15:57
Speaker
Yes. Wow. So it's so funny that you just mentioned. So what is read Romans 18 to me, 8, 18, 17 and 18. It says, if we are children, if we have received the good news of God and turned ourselves in and surrendered to Christ,
00:16:14
Speaker
We are now children God. I must say something controversial. There's a belief out there. We're all children of God. That's not what the Bible teaches. I'm going to let the Bible be the final authority, not Holly. It's just the Bible is the final authority. that The one that we're of, the one that we're in wherever we are, who we can say we're a child of.
00:16:34
Speaker
So if we're in Christ, who is a son of God, then we are a child of God. It's what the word of God says. and It all goes further. It says, not only are we children but If we are children, then what happens when we're children? We're heirs of God, heirs of God.
00:16:52
Speaker
We have inherited God in his entire kingdom and all scripture says all things.
Misconceptions About God's Glory
00:16:59
Speaker
It's so extreme. It's so good. It's hard to believe.
00:17:04
Speaker
That's our problem is it's super hard to believe because it's so radical. The statement that God makes of truth in his word is so far beyond our wildest imagination. We just constantly are dumbing it down.
00:17:20
Speaker
And my mission is for me and others to try to help people not dumb it down. I know this is not like great Christian language, but we got to come. We just got to say, what did God say? This is what God said. So this is how it is. And I need to discover it.
00:17:35
Speaker
says that we're heirs of God, co-heirs with Christ. What did Christ inherit? all things. He is now authority over all things. He inherited total restoration of all creation with God. And again, it's so radical.
00:17:52
Speaker
We could just, this is why I believe the apostles would stay and teach for years about Christ and about being an heir of God. And then it says, if indeed we suffer with him, this is where like the whole story in the movie line goes, and okay What does that mean? If indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him, I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the po glory that will be revealed where?
00:18:24
Speaker
In us. The glory of God that will be be revealed in us. And we touched on this, I think, last week or probably the both weeks. It goes on to say that creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God.
00:18:42
Speaker
All creation, Megan knows this about me. i just like to just get real with God and like take a walk and look at trees and go like God, is that tree waiting for me to get a clue? yeah Like all creation is waiting for me to like understand that I'm an heir of God. Like we just have to do that. We got to get out of all the religious Christian e stuff that shuts up.
00:19:07
Speaker
The kingdom of heaven. That's what Jesus said to the Pharisees and the scribes. He was super hard on anyone who put a religious construct around a person that keeps them from entering into the wonder and the awe and the incredible story of God.
00:19:25
Speaker
he was have he was that was the one group of people that he was not playing with. yeah And he said to them, you shut up, you hypocrites, you whatever, whatever, you literally are shutting up the kingdom of heaven to people with your religious controlling issues.
00:19:43
Speaker
This wild, you guys. and It is. but And I feel like if we would just shut up our minds. Yes. And open our eyes and senses to those trees.
00:19:54
Speaker
I do believe that nature speak. I think, I think in heaven, Nate, it's all going to be talking. Like I think ah all the rocks cry out. um Yeah. I think the flowers will be talking. I think the trees are talking. And I think that, that I think that that is here.
00:20:10
Speaker
yeah If we can go there, if we allow ourselves to be still and connect on that level And I think along with the glory will be revealed in us.
00:20:23
Speaker
We've talked about today, like what is that glory? that he's yeah talking about. And if we can feel the weight of God, the gravity of God, you know, one question to ask is what do you visualize when you enter in heaven? And whatever that visual is that we have, what you're saying is like that all, and that just pure delight.
00:20:46
Speaker
And that's this glory, I think, you know? It's so interesting because again, religion, I'm going to beat up on religion. And I think I'm allowed to do that because Jesus did. But, and I've, there's plenty of religious things that, that God has had to like pull out of me. You know, I'm not blaming anyone else. It's just, maybe I was lazy not spending time in the word and then just took things that people said without doing my own study. But um i hear people say that god will not share his glory with anyone that's not true he actually shares it with christ and then christ shares it with us that's the whole point we fell from the glory of god so what is the glory the glory of god is the intrinsic value and worth of god and so much more but we have to start there so if you think about like
00:21:34
Speaker
What is God worth? How do you even put, you can't even measure that. we can't If God disappeared, everything would disappear. So the the intrinsic value and worth of God and life and in eternity, yeah in majesty and freedom and liberation and peace and identity, this is all the glory of God. And it says in scripture, clearly says in scripture, like super easy read, that we fell from that.
00:22:06
Speaker
We fell from the value of of knowing God and being centered with God in creation And hit hit the value of being yoked and one with him, and you've mentioned that word before, kind of that oneness, being one with him, in him and him and us, we fell out of that. that That's
Identity in Christ vs. Striving
00:22:25
Speaker
sin. That's the depravity of man. God looks at that and says that's totally. total depravity. If you fall out of God, you fall out of your position with him. And in Christ, that's restored. We're actually brought back to the glory of God.
00:22:39
Speaker
And I know when people say, you know, God's not going to share his glory with anyone, partly, it's just you got to be careful what you say. But partly what people mean is don't try to take the spotlight from God. Don't try to make it sound like you're the one doing it without God. And I agree with that.
00:22:57
Speaker
But the language goes too far, in my opinion, because what we just read is God's going to reveal his glory in us and through us and all creation will be liberated.
00:23:08
Speaker
I'll say this, Megan, when I've heard testimonies of people that have died and gone to heaven. yeah And again, what we're teaching here is when you're when you surrender your life to Christ, you're born from heaven. Now we're already citizens of heaven.
00:23:22
Speaker
When we shed this earthly tent. this body that we're in that includes this earth, earthly brain, we're immediately liberated.
00:23:33
Speaker
from the weight and the pains and the discomfort of a fallen creation because this body was born in a fallen creation state and people that i've heard that have had a heavenly experience like that all say the exact same thing the exact same thing they were completely at peace full of joy no pain no weight and they all say the exact same thing when they came back into their body and this is thousands and thousands of testimonies out there like this they literally all say the same thing they said it feels like you hit a brick wall like when you come back in your body you immediately feel we're not talking about sin someone hurting you we're just saying being in this body groans because this body is earthly and it's flawed and it's tied to the earth
00:24:29
Speaker
And we don't realize how, like, don't know, when you get older, I'm 55 and I walk upstairs, sometimes I'm like, man, I feel so heavy. you know Like, you know, sometimes I maybe I need to lose a little weight, but there is this heaviness, this weight, this suffering that happens in the body.
00:24:47
Speaker
Do you have something that you're going to say I can see your wheel. Yeah. yeah Hold on real quick. What version of the Bible are you reading? So I'm right now on Bible hub, and this is good for your listeners to hear.
00:24:59
Speaker
i use Bible hub all the time because when you look at a verse, I can look at NIV, NLV, new King James, King James all at one time. Okay.
00:25:10
Speaker
What I just read because it was at the top, it was Marine standard Bible. was just curious because I have a different version on my app. And it didn't say in us, it said to us. And I do feel like the in us is ah big difference.
00:25:25
Speaker
I'm so glad you said that, Megan. I'm so glad you said that. This is massively important. And I'm just going to be honest. I do not like NIV for that reason. i do not like NLT for that reason. I've spent enough time in the word where a lot of translations do change the words to fit our English preference.
00:25:47
Speaker
Yeah. It's funny. Jennifer Rothschild actually addressed this exact conversation in her video today. Yeah. So she said... and holy Spirit's on it. Yeah. Well, she just said the glory will be revealed in us and to us. And she said that there...
00:26:04
Speaker
It is because of the original translation, exactly what you're saying, Holly, like some just interpreted it different, but she explained it that in this context, they're one of the same, the N and the two.
00:26:19
Speaker
Well, of course. Yeah. But it's not just the problem I have with two, but only two is that gets us back into religious mindset where we're still waiting for everything. Right. Right.
00:26:32
Speaker
And this is what happens then. People believe that I believe in Jesus. I said this on the last episode and then i just live whatever. And then one day he's my ticket into heaven. Yeah. and mike is So if I believe in Jesus and I've given my life to him, but I don't understand everything I'm saying, does that mean I'm going to help?
00:26:50
Speaker
Absolutely not. That's not what we're saying. But what we're saying is you will live scripture talks about 30, 60, 100 fold. and And that is really the opportunity we have to live out the the kingdom of heaven to live out Christ on the earth. 30 fold is i will have some return in my life.
00:27:09
Speaker
I'll have some revelation in my life, but I'm probably not going to produce a lot of heavenly reality on the earth because I'm waiting to go to heaven one day. 100 fold.
00:27:20
Speaker
hundredfold is we get, in my opinion, we get to a place where identity, sonship, being a child of God, an heir of God, co-heir of Christ is where we're living from.
00:27:35
Speaker
it's where remember the last episode, Lauren, I was talking about that. God gave me that vision of the red dot in the mall on the key. Yes. Yeah. And it started here. You are here.
00:27:46
Speaker
You are here. so navigate everything from this vantage point. And when we learn and we're all learning and growing, and we're going to keep learning and growing, probably keep learning and growing in our heavenly body as well. I mean, we're talking about God and all things. And when we start to live from place, instead of living towards a place or to a place, everything changes.
00:28:12
Speaker
That's the message. I don't know if I'm doing a good job of it, but that's like the message I'm trying to, to communicate. ah well you You had mentioned
Holy Spirit in Public Witness
00:28:20
Speaker
groaning. Sorry, just to yeah finish that thought I had.
00:28:23
Speaker
So we talked about also, Let the good lead to glory. So notice the good. and I think we all know we preach it all the time, but there is something to focusing on gratitude and noticing the good and things even in our suffering.
00:28:40
Speaker
But then she also said, let the groans lead to glory. and um and That's really good. Yeah. And we compare, we compare this present suffering to the glory that will be revealed was another thing that she shared.
00:28:56
Speaker
I love that she's in that. Like I will definitely look into that and learn from her because like I said, we're, we're kind of of the kaleidoscope of God here, you know, yeah but we can, and I want to encourage listeners to there's, and I've gone through this sometimes when we're not secure in our faith,
00:29:15
Speaker
in Christ and we haven't accepted yet that we're all growing, we're all learning and we don't need to be fearful of someone else using slightly different language or whatever, then we could get super defensive and critical of others that communicate things a certain way.
00:29:31
Speaker
And that's a massive mistake. Yes, I can listen to someone that's sharing the gospel and think that's like not even half the gospel, but I can still listen for a revelation God wants to give me. I don't have to throw the whole thing out unless it's a false Christ, unless it's a false gospel.
00:29:51
Speaker
But we're all learning. We're all growing. So we have to get so sure in who Christ is that I'm in Christ and he's in me, period. And that can't change. So therefore i can learn and I can process and I can figure out what to toss out, what to chew on without, you know, taking digs at people and shooting people down and saying they're wrong and I'm right. All of that mess is, is out there too. So I just wanted to throw that out.
00:30:17
Speaker
Just like chaos from the enemy usually. yeah Okay. So I want to touch on what you just said, cause it's super profound. Okay. um When we start to live from a place. Yeah.
00:30:28
Speaker
Instead of to a place. Yeah. Everything changes. So i think that might be what I'm going to be pondering all of this next week. Cause I'm thinking, well, what does that mean to live from a place? My first thought was like, okay, if I live from somewhere, i know who I am.
00:30:46
Speaker
If I've lit, I don't know if that's where it's going, but you tell me and if I'm the other going to a place, it's like, I'm striving, I'm chasing, I'm trying to prove myself. yeah maybe if you're you're already there it's like you know you don't have to earn it and so you kind of have a new confidence you still learn to walk in it so okay so living from a place means we first need to know what is the place where we need to know the place yeah what are we living from right so so what is the place the place is in christ and christ is in us so i need to know christ
00:31:21
Speaker
yeah I have to get to know Christ, the King of Kings. Who is he? What did he say? What did he teach? What did he preach? So i've got to be in the word for myself. Asking Holy Spirit to reveal. And like again, I like keeping things simple. You can take walks and be like, Jesus, I want to know you more. Reveal yourself to me more.
00:31:40
Speaker
I need to know you because your you hold me at the center of everything. My life is hidden you. So you need to know Christ. He's also the king of the kingdom. So I need to get to know the kingdom.
00:31:51
Speaker
This is why the apostles would stay for years and preach. It's not a soundbite thing. it is... accepting the truth and being like, okay, now I need to come in as a child. because This is a whole new kingdom, ah whole new way of thinking. This is a spiritual way of living and thinking, not a natural human way.
00:32:11
Speaker
is it This is a spiritual kingdom, eternal mind boggling way. So I've got to come in as a child and know that I have a lot to learn. yeah So that's first things first. And again, it's why we do, I'm going to petition the church at large to get back to preaching christ in the kingdom non-stop we need to constantly but you cannot exhaust that we need to teach that we need to talk about that we need to we need to keep christ as king and lord at the center of everything that's first and foremost secondly we need the holy spirit the holy spirit is everything wrapped up
00:32:51
Speaker
know the holy spirit was hovering over the earth at the beginning for the first creation and god spoke and the holy spirit brought it all to pass the spirit of god same thing for the second creation or the last creation which we're in now in christ it's the holy spirit that causes everything to happen so just to kind of like bring it right into like real life example we do need to pray say holy spirit fill me And yes, scripture does teach that the heavenly language called tongues will often follow.
00:33:23
Speaker
But I know I was filled with the Holy Spirit for years before I ever spoke in tongues. I had a real hard time with that one. I was like, this is not real. I don't know what this is. Like, how do i And so i don't want to go too far off on that. Today, we can maybe talk about another episode.
00:33:39
Speaker
But it when when the Holy Spirit fills you, there is going to start to be spiritual realities that are not necessarily natural.
Encouragement to Step Out in Faith
00:33:48
Speaker
or they're not natural, should desire to speak in a heavenly language, even if it's private between you and God and never public. We need that.
00:33:55
Speaker
We need something that bypasses our brain, right? worshiping in the spirit, speaking in the spirit, or speaking by the leading of the spirit are important. But for me, the way I really started walking this out is I decided I'm just going to start praying for people in public.
00:34:14
Speaker
I'm going to start witnessing in public my comfortable way. So that's real. It was scary at first because you're thinking this is so embarrassing. Like if this does not work out or whatever, I'm just going to make God look bad. I'm going to turn people away from God. Like I had this big battle.
00:34:30
Speaker
But for a long time, I traveled for work for 15 or 20 years. I traveled all the time. So I decided the airport and cabs and Uber drivers are my mission ground.
00:34:41
Speaker
That's I'm just going to do it. But the gospel is here's the good news. God says, here it is, Holly. Now just start to do it. Just walk in it. And this is the thing that's so hard for us is our natural brain is like, I want to understand it more.
00:34:57
Speaker
I want to feel safer. We've talked about this a million times. I want to trust and understand and feel safe. And God's like, it you will stay stuck there. You have to trust God and just walk in it. One of the first things I did when I was like buying a coffee,
00:35:13
Speaker
or something really simple. I'd make sure there wasn't a big long behind me, but I would just decide I'm just going to trust God that the Holy Spirit is going flow through me somehow. I hope this works out. I'm just being real. That's like what I thought.
00:35:25
Speaker
And I get up to the counter and I would just start with, I would look at the person, I would be privately asking God to like, give me an encouragement for them. Just give me something to encourage them with.
00:35:36
Speaker
And I would get up to the counter and hundreds of stories, literally at this point, I'm thinking of of a few where I get the counter and I feel like they were like, I felt like they kind of had this like lawyer legal type aspect to them. And here they are checking out coffee at the coffee counter.
00:35:51
Speaker
And so I would say, Hey, you know, I just want to encourage you. Sometimes I get these sentences, impressions in my heart, not coming in with thus says God or whatever, just in case I'm wrong.
00:36:03
Speaker
like That's how I would think too. But, and I would just say, I just, so wild, this is so weird, but I just kind of see, I feel, or I sense this. And what started happening is people will go how do you know that?
00:36:14
Speaker
I'm like, well, tell me about it. I would just converse with them. Well, I'm actually going to law school. Like I want to be a lawyer. I'm like, oh, wow. I was like, well, God sees that. and He loves that. and He's put you in that. And I just want to encourage you, like pursue that with everything you have.
00:36:30
Speaker
and And then I would say, i want you know that hearing these things or sensing these things through the Holy Spirit, because I believe in Jesus. There's the gospel right there. And they're like, wow, thank you so much.
00:36:41
Speaker
So this is what I started doing is I started being willing to flow, being willing to let the spirit of God just flow through me. I would pray for people to be healed. I started small. Like for me, I started just giving people an encouragement. I'd be in an Uber car, taxi or whatever. where are you from? data--da How long have you been here? And I would find a place to converse.
00:37:05
Speaker
So I didn't usually just come in. Do you know Jesus? What's your faith? What, you know, I would make it personal with them. And so many times they were either Muslim or they were Buddhist or they were whatever.
00:37:17
Speaker
And I would find a place to where I would feel or sense something for them. And I would encourage them and then let them know that, that I believe in Jesus and that the Holy Spirit is is leading me.
00:37:29
Speaker
So this is, want to pause, but this is, in my opinion, witnessing, sharing the good news in a way that's relational and just putting yourself out there is one of the number one ways to grow and start awakening to the spiritual reality that we're now in, that we now have.
00:37:48
Speaker
What are your thoughts? To live from a place, not to a place. Yeah. yeah Yeah. So what, so what's happening is I'm not striving for something. I'm letting the the Holy spirit and the kindness of God flow out of me.
00:38:01
Speaker
I'm living from this reality of the spirit of God. I'm not trying to make something. I'm just being willing. I'm just saying, I'm just putting myself out there and being willing to be a flow.
00:38:13
Speaker
This is one of, there's this scripture, Acts 19. If your listeners want to write this down, verse starting one through five, it says that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus and finding some disciples, he said to them, did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?
00:38:32
Speaker
And they said to him, we have not so much even heard there is a Holy Spirit. And he said to them into, into what then were you baptized?
00:38:43
Speaker
And they said into John's baptism. So they've been water baptized. um And John was preaching that Christ was here, that you need to repent and turn to Christ. So that's what they were being baptized into. But Paul said,
00:38:55
Speaker
John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance. What does that mean? Like turning away from going your own way and turning to your necessity of Christ saying to the people that they should believe on him who would come after him.
00:39:10
Speaker
So they should believe on Christ who comes after John. And it says, when they heard this, This is the power of the Gospels. You just have to really hear who Christ is.
00:39:22
Speaker
it says when they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. So now they're baptized into Christ. What does that mean? There's this supernatural transaction that happens where they're born again.
00:39:35
Speaker
They're now, their old nature dies with Christ and they now have the new nature of Christ in them. They're baptized into Christ. And when Paul laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them.
00:39:47
Speaker
And then it says they spoke in tongues and prophesied. So there's, when we accept Christ and we're baptized into Christ, the next thing, like these people just heard the full gospel.
00:40:00
Speaker
They didn't, they didn't. They just heard it. And the next thing that happens is they begin to prophesy. That's childlike. That's childlike. See, it's not about me understanding. Everything is about me believing. It's like I believe and I receive.
00:40:15
Speaker
And so when I believe in Christ and I believe I'm baptized into Christ, I take God at his word. And I believe there is a Holy Spirit that I need to be filled with and needs to come upon me. Then God, God does the rest.
00:40:29
Speaker
I just have to believe and receive. And immediately they spoke in tongues and prophesied. As I said, for me, i prophesied over people and prayed for people and had things flowing through me for a long time before I ever spoke in tongues because I was mentally hung up on that.
00:40:46
Speaker
And even now, sometimes I can be a little about it because I'm not sure if if it's all naturally flowing or people are making it happen. keeping it real. Yeah. But prophesying, yes, does mean to foretell the future. But also I put words of knowledge in there where you just know something about someone to encourage them.
00:41:06
Speaker
This should be happening. in us and through us living from this place when we know the Christ. But how do you know unless you step out? How would I ever know what's in me and who I'm in, what I can flow from unless I put myself out there and begin to witness, you know?
00:41:25
Speaker
and I think that maybe is the first step because a lot of what you're saying probably for a lot of people feels very uncomfortable or, yeah you know, I think that we all let our ego um Live from our ego. And so, yeah, I think maybe just the first, maybe just the first step, if you are feeling overwhelmed is coming to God in a place of receiving like, and just ask him.
00:41:50
Speaker
Like, what does that, what does this look like for me? I want, I want to live from a place in Christ and Christ in us, but God, what does that mean for me? Because maybe that's not all of our stories, but he probably has a way that we can do that in all different ways, you know? Yeah.
00:42:08
Speaker
I mean, the Bible tells us what that means. It means that Jesus, so you have the 12 disciples, you know, that walked with him, but you also have a story of about the 70 disciples and a story about 120. And the 70 he sent out before, I believe that was before or maybe it was after his resurrection. I can't remember. Go back and look.
00:42:29
Speaker
But the 70, he sent out and said, I give you all authority. So the 70 followed Christ. They knew who he was. And all of a sudden he says, um you go out now and preach the gospel. You go share that who I am.
00:42:42
Speaker
And he says, ah give you this authority. When you do that, these signs will follow you. You will cast up demons in my name. You'll lay hands on the sick. They'll recover. You know, you'll prophesy all these. And the 70 went out and just did it.
00:42:54
Speaker
They weren't super seasoned. They weren't, they just went out and did it. And it says they came back and they were like, whoa, wow. We can't believe these things happen. And Jesus even said to them, yes, of course they're going to happen.
00:43:09
Speaker
But Jesus said to them, But don't get too hung up on that. Be hung up that your name is written in heaven, you know, that you're in me. But the point I'm trying to make is we've got to get back to just believing who Christ is and just beginning to share it and walk in that and trust that the Holy Spirit will meet us in that place and flow through that.
00:43:30
Speaker
What this does, is so which is so important, is it awakens us. It awakens us spiritually with the Holy Spirit. Well, and I think just to kind of for everyday reality, i think what helps me on a daily basis is if I truly believe in an eternal life, I believe what the word says is true.
00:43:51
Speaker
then this little chunk of life here is a blink in the eye. And why wouldn't I want to prioritize and spend that daily time? And so yeah something that I remind myself is like, I'm never going to regret not praying or not spending more time with God.
00:44:08
Speaker
we're, you know, whatever, like a lot of us get distracted and can go about our days, but it's like, I always try to reel back in like, Hey, even if it's five minutes, yeah you're, we're going to notice that throughout our day.
00:44:19
Speaker
just like Let's like dive into like the secret place, which is like that private time. I know everybody's hungry to know that. And and that's our comfortable place. But what I want to urge listeners, if if you've given yourself to Christ and you believe He is who he says he is. The what do I do? what do I do with this conversation? Number one, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you every day.
00:44:41
Speaker
i mean, I think that's something that we should pray for every single day. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit to fill us. And then. Just find one person, find that one person next week and decide I'm just going to be willing to and encourage someone.
00:44:56
Speaker
This kind of takes the pressure off of it. Encourage them. And when I go to encourage them, I'm going to ask the Holy Spirit to put something on my heart. to encourage them with just that simple and what will happen is some people listening to this they'll feel something in their heart and they'll not even know is that them or is that holy spirit but if you'll just say it and encourage someone you will be shocked at how willing the holy spirit is to flow through us and this is the beginning of waking up that that spiritual way of living.
00:45:28
Speaker
Yeah. That's so good. Yeah. To kind of wrap this up, I I'm excited for next week to talk about the secret place, but I will say that Holly has encouraged me in the past to do what she's talking about today is just encourage someone.
00:45:44
Speaker
And it is this step of faith that you take, but it does build your confidence And that like the Holy Spirit
Closing Prayer and Reflection
00:45:52
Speaker
is in you. If you're someone that's like, wait, what? I can't.
00:45:55
Speaker
That is something that's so cool. Like confidence is built through those little things. And I think I really built my confidence when I did encourage someone and I had moments and I need to get back in the habit of doing this. I'm glad you're bringing it up because I kind of haven't have fallen out of just doing that in my everyday life.
00:46:14
Speaker
But I remember having a moment and being, I was shaking, like scared to say anything when you encourage me to do this. And the lady at the grocery store ended up crying and saying like, she was having the worst day and she really needed that encouragement. And then that made me feel so bad. Like how many other people have I walked by that needed encouragement? Like, why would I say no to this? So I hope that encourages people to, so yeah. And then if you will pray us out, thank you so much. This was amazing. And yeah, I can't wait for more. Awesome.
00:46:43
Speaker
Let me pray. Yes. we'll We'll keep unpacking it. And I, and I want to encourage your listeners, just keep it authentic and and do what Megan said. Just, Maybe it's at the target checkout line or wherever it is.
00:46:55
Speaker
and It encourages you right? You encourage the other person, but then you end up walking away feeling encouraged as well. So, well, father, we just thank you God for your goodness. We just thank you right now for the gospel is good news that you're so loving. You're so gracious.
00:47:09
Speaker
Yeah. Jesus, we just acknowledge you as Lord, as King, as Master, um not just of a heavenly kingdom, but of our hearts, of our lives. We're so grateful that we are allowed to be in you, to be one with you. And you are the creator of all things. That just goes beyond anything we can imagine.
00:47:28
Speaker
So Holy Spirit, I do ask, we do ask today, would you take what we've talked about? I ask right now that you would touch every single listener in a unique way. in a personal way that they'd feel your presence right now.
00:47:40
Speaker
Holy Spirit, I ask that they would feel your peace, that they would just feel the kindness of God towards them. And Lord, I just pray that you would remove all fear, this fear that we have of stepping out and walking in the truth that you've given us. We just pray you'd remove that fear and fill us with your spirit, fill us with the Holy Spirit um God, so that we can know you and we can walk in the things that we're talking about today.
00:48:04
Speaker
And Lord, I pray if there's anybody listening and they've just they've never even heard of the Holy Spirit, even heard that language. I ask on that you would begin to reveal that to him over even over the next week. Would you supernaturally ah reveal to every listener who the Holy Spirit is? We trust you, God.
00:48:22
Speaker
We love you. And Lord, I speak a blessing over these sisters. God, i just pray for strength in their bodies from head to toe. Lord, I pray for health for them, for head to toe. God, I feel like a healing thing where we pray for healing to manifest right now, even over the next day.
00:48:38
Speaker
in the name of Jesus, we love you. were Amen. Amen. Thank you so much. You're so welcome. Y'all have
