Introduction and Podcast Purpose

00:00:00
Speaker
Hello and welcome to the Girl I Slept in My Makeup podcast by three sisters who are at three different life stages and have three different perspectives. They're excited to learn and grow alongside of you. This is a space full of love and acceptance.
00:00:12
Speaker
No judgment because let's face it, sleeping in your makeup is more than a podcast title. It's a reminder that we all mess up. So give yourself and others lots of grace.

Sisters' Fun and Bonding

00:00:22
Speaker
Please welcome my three little sisters, Lauren, Megan, and Kristen.
00:00:32
Speaker
Hey sisters. Hi. It's so fun because we just were together in person and now we're recording. I meant to have us record while we were together, but we were just too busy having fun.
00:00:44
Speaker
Too much in the moment making TikTok videos.
00:00:48
Speaker
That was more important. Yeah. So funny. Well, listeners, we just got back from Lubbock. Kristen and I, we went and overtook Lulu's house for the weekend. And just I feel like I was able to shut my brain off.
00:01:03
Speaker
She sent us to get massages. We went to the sauna. We had lots of good food and lots of walk. Yes. Lots of playing cards. Oh, yeah. Kristen taught us some new games.
00:01:14
Speaker
Yeah. i wish we could somehow show people. But if you've never heard of the card games golf and then trash, those are the two games we played that Kristen taught us. And they were so fun. Yeah. If you just need like a mindless, not much strategy.
00:01:28
Speaker
Just games that you can like chit chat and play at the same time. They're good. Michael's convinced we just played cards the whole time. Every time we did talk to him, I think we were. but stage chart Yeah.
00:01:38
Speaker
Oh my gosh. No, but I love Lubbock. It's just so relaxing there. Oh, well, I'm glad that you felt relaxed because that was, that was the goal.

Humorous Dog Poop Tales

00:01:49
Speaker
Yes. Thank you. So to let y'all get some kid-free relaxation in.
00:01:55
Speaker
I did forget to tell you, Lauren, I took a video of you. need to send it to y'all. So we took Freddie, Lauren's dog on a walk. Who's the best dog. i swear he's a human, but we only had one poop bag and he decided to poop a second time. And there was a camera like right outside the person's house where he decided to poop. And so me and Kristen like looked up at the camera and we were like, we're going to come back.
00:02:22
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. And we awkwardly come back in a car and you go up and I took a video of you picking up the poop. You did?
00:02:33
Speaker
oh my gosh. You sneaky little biatches.
00:02:37
Speaker
It's for nobody else's viewing, but our own. But I was just like, we have to remember this memory. Cause I don't know why it was just so funny. Cause I felt like your porch light turned on I feel like they were like, what are these people doing? And I really hope they went back and watch this video.
00:02:52
Speaker
Well, they looked at it. I bet they, Yeah, I was about to say, I bet they did because when we were driving away, I felt like I saw somebody peek out the blinds. So I'm sure they were wondering who is in our yard. it was it was dark it was dark outside, so it was in the evening. But at least we were good citizens and went back, you know. Totally. so Yeah, whenever I'm on walks and if I ever see poop on the ground, I'm like, who does that?
00:03:16
Speaker
I know. Well, we did for a hot minute. Although I do have to it admit it's my son's confession, but... This summer, one of his daily duties was taking our dog for a daily walk and he doesn't do poop. And so I would always tell him, Hey, if he poops, I mean, I tried to get him to pick it up that obviously like I tried, but anyway, so he would come back and be like, Hey, it's, we would do the same thing, hop in the car and he would go show it me. No. So this is like a normal occurrence for you.
00:03:49
Speaker
Yeah, that's i know that's a very bad parenting thing. i should force my child to do it. But he just, he's like, I can't I can't. um So funny when Joe Joe was like, I want a job. We actually were like, you could be a pooper scooper, go pick up people's poop in their yard for them.
00:04:06
Speaker
And she actually down. Yeah, she wasn't like against it. That's awesome. Oh my gosh. So funny. She's like a dog lover. Yeah. She doesn't get grossed out easily. Yeah. Yes.
00:04:18
Speaker
We're not to get Kenner to like scoop some horse poop or something. but Yeah. Like make it real bad. It's funny. Yeah. yeah oh So they're easy.
00:04:30
Speaker
Yeah. Although I had a poop massacre yesterday. What happened? Olive needs to get groomed. His hair has just gotten too long. And I guess he like, he went outside to poop, but it got stuck. This is so gross. So I'm sorry say this.
00:04:43
Speaker
It happens to all the dog owners out there. Yeah, I got stuck. And I knew something was wrong because he kept licking back there. And I was like, what is he doing? and he jumped on her bed. And then i wasn't fully paying attention. And then I look finally like look over what's happening. And there's poop everywhere. And I was like, oh, my God, i was so stressed out. I was like, I'm so tired. I don't know why, but I was so tired coming home. Yeah, partly because I didn't really sleep well because of my bladder, unfortunately. Anyway, I was like exhausted. So I was like half awake and I was just like, oh my God, there's poop everywhere. And I just put him in the bathtub. I started cutting his hair. It was a whole thing. Oh, geez. I washed everything. That's so weird because that literally just happened to me like twice with Louie, remember? But it was because we have a little shirt on Louie because of his allergies, our dog. And the poop got on his little shirt and then it just like got dragged ah around our entire house.
00:05:42
Speaker
Yeah. Yours was worse. Ours was, that is worse than what happened. Cause it was secluded to our bed, which is really close though. Yeah. But it didn't get anywhere other than like our bed. least it was in one spot.
00:05:54
Speaker
Yeah. Oh my gosh. That all sounds so horrible. No pets. They just keep on giving. That's why I'm always like, Freddie's so such a good dog. He doesn't get poop everywhere. no Yeah. mean, it wasn't his fault.
00:06:10
Speaker
It's my own fault. I'm getting him groomed on Friday. So it doesn't happen again. because I'm like, Oh my God. Yeah.

Addressing Tragedy and Seeking Peace

00:06:16
Speaker
that We did not plan to talk about dog poop, but since y'all brought it up, one of my tennis friends shared how she adopted a dog recently and they think he's about six months old, but she was saying but he was in terrible conditions when they got him, like had everything that could be fleas, ticks, heart, all this stuff.
00:06:38
Speaker
But anyways, she said that he Oh, I'm not going to say this word right, but he was so matted on his bottom that when he would go to try to poop, it would not come out because it was so matted. And so it went back in. And so he had a, what's the word where like, is it like prolapse or something?
00:06:58
Speaker
We might have to edit this out. I say the wrong words all the time. Anyways, I'll look it up. But it it was a very sad situation where, I don't know, she said whenever they, you know, fix that, like the first time he went to the bathroom when she had him, he, ah something came out of him, like a sack or something.
00:07:18
Speaker
Or like a balloon. What did she say? Hold on. I'm Googling this because that's going to drive me crazy. I mean, I've heard of prolapsed anus, which sounds so weird. That's where the insides like come out. Yes. Yeah. That's what she was saying. Is it prolapsed? Yes.
00:07:30
Speaker
Yeah. Oh my gosh. I'm shocked that I got the word right. That's unusual. Anyways, she just was sharing that with me yesterday. So as y'all are taught or when you were talking about Will or Olive, I was like, oh no, that's horrible.
00:07:43
Speaker
Yeah. But how sweet. I was just thinking when she was talking, how grateful he must be to have her. I know. I know our neighbor adopted a dog recently who had some issues and so sweet. Yeah. Well,
00:07:58
Speaker
yeah interview or We haven't really discussed, we're just going off the cuff here, but I feel like since we last recorded, ah kind of a lot has happened in our world and gone down just with the Charlie Kirk assassination and school shootings, which sadly seemed to happen on the weekly. There's literally a shooting today and Dallas at the ICE station.
00:08:23
Speaker
headquarters. but Oh, when I opened up my, cause I still use Yahoo email. And so like the news pops up on the home screen, I actually meant to ask y'all about it. Cause it said it was like live updates and there were people died. So what, what happened? Do you know? I don't know all the details yet, but it's, it sounds like they're still trying to figure out what all is going on, but the active shooter is not active anymore, obviously. So.
00:08:48
Speaker
Oh, good. Yeah. Well, anyways, I was just, I i just wanted to remind everybody that I think going God calls us to prayer, you know, and I think the more that every single one of us can just lean in and seek him and his word, I think is, is never the wrong thing to do. And I think in this situation, that's where I've tried to go with my energy is, you know, he doesn't, the Bible doesn't call us to post, but instead to pray. So to get off the internets and social media and just get in the word. Amen.
00:09:24
Speaker
Yeah. Love that. Yes. Protect your mind

Grieving Mother and Healing

00:09:30
Speaker
too. I feel like I've just, yeah, it's been heavy on my heart. I was really emotional on Monday at grief group.
00:09:38
Speaker
I think too, like something I didn't think about until I got there, because always share too, even though I'm leading the group, like on how I'm doing in my own grief, it's for me too. And I think spending time with y'all is like so fun. But then once it's over, feel like a heavy grief moment. Cause mom wasn't there, you know, it's weird. Yeah.
00:09:59
Speaker
That makes sense. Yeah. It's like, I'm in the moment there. Like I didn't feel griefy at all the whole weekend, but then I got home and felt real. Yeah. So I think we can all agree with this, with our dynamic, with our mom.
00:10:14
Speaker
is I think she made each one of us, even though we're all so different, she was like the one person in our life that we each could go to. And she truly understood us, you know, knew us probably better than we knew ourselves. And yeah she, she just got it. And so there wasn't any, like it didn't, at least for me. And I think y'all would say the same thing. I rarely felt misunderstood by mom.
00:10:43
Speaker
yeah And i think that's just a really cool gift to have here to have an earthly figure besides God who just understands you and understands your motivations and knows your heart. And, and so I always miss that, you know, there's certainly times usually when, you know, something hard happened or, or whatever, or even just with our kids, when, you know, you want that kind of parental mother, motherly advice.
00:11:13
Speaker
It's just a real hole. and And it hurts, you know, to not have that. and And I know that I could call y'all you know, and you would listen, but it's just not the same. And I know y'all would say the same thing. So, yeah.
00:11:26
Speaker
And I think it's just kind of what you're saying. There's so many. just like a big feeling of grief across. I don't know. It's just like this heavy feeling. So I've been, we talked about this in grief class of just truly handing over. Like we can't, we weren't made to carry it, ah whatever grief you're walking through.
00:11:46
Speaker
And so I realized that I haven't really been practicing that lately. I think I've been trying to carry things myself, like unknowingly and putting it on me to handle things. And it's hard because it's almost like a spiritual thing to hand it over and spending time in prayer and really handing everything over to God and allowing him to carry it for you.
00:12:09
Speaker
So I felt like a big weight lifted off of me when I did that finally on Monday, when I realized i was trying to carry things. I am really good at hiding things for myself. I've realized. So, yeah.
00:12:23
Speaker
Yeah, that's good. i think it takes a lot of self-reflection and intention to number one, even notice it and notice where the heaviness is coming from and yeah why, and, and then making and intentional choice to surrender and hand it over out of his feet, you know?
00:12:43
Speaker
Yeah. yeah And if anybody's having physical pain right now, you should try acupuncture.

Wellness and Health Journeys

00:12:48
Speaker
Yeah. Is it helping you? yeah I literally, sorry not to change the subject, but I, you know, it's funny playing sports as an adult. As a kid, I never had any pain anywhere. i never had an injury.
00:13:01
Speaker
and now I'm, you know, 36 and like I have meniscus pain. i have tennis elbow pain. And honestly, just even from two sessions of acupuncture, like I already feel relief, which is kind of crazy. So I highly recommend it So nice.
00:13:16
Speaker
Good to know. yeah and you go to my girls, Grounded Wellness and Frisco. Always got to give them a shout out. Yeah, I do. Yeah, yeah. They're getting more and more pregnant.
00:13:28
Speaker
I know all three of them are pregnant. Nicole is about to have her baby any day. She's not. I turn to leave. She's the first. Yeah. Yeah. So cute. So cute.
00:13:39
Speaker
I love it. Okay. Well, last sister chat, we answered a few of these questions from the legacy cards for my church. So I thought we could do that again. are y'all down? Down. Okay.
00:13:50
Speaker
The first one I pulled says, where is your favorite place to go in the city where you live? Hmm. I mean, I would say i know more. i feel like in Nashville. Yeah.
00:14:00
Speaker
Yeah, you can answer Nashville if you want. i We loved going to Gatlinburg, but like in Nashville, I would say we loved Arrington Vineyards. It was just so peaceful and relaxing and beautiful.
00:14:14
Speaker
and we'd have a picnic and usually get like a bottle of wine and just relax and hang out. Thinking about this is making me realize how boring I really am because I was like, honestly, I just like being home.
00:14:27
Speaker
Oh my gosh. That's what I was to say. I'm just going to be honest. And the first thing that came to my mind was my home and my bathtub. Yeah, me too. on My bed.
00:14:37
Speaker
like i I thought you would say the sauna, Lauren. Yeah. Well, that was the second thought was either the sauna or the healing nook where they have all different types of detox and cleansing and All the things ah fresh bread is delivered there and fresh farm eggs.
00:14:53
Speaker
So I do love going to speaking of grounded wellness. I do love going to my chiropractor office. It's always just such a relaxing environment. Yeah. Well, actually I do know where I love going the most in Dallas. It's lifetime. Oh yeah.
00:15:07
Speaker
yeah For pickleball. Oh yeah, me too. I guess for me is the, the place I go to for tennis is the falls. It's yeah. That's what brings me a lot of happiness.
00:15:18
Speaker
I love that. I mean, when it's nice outside, i really do love just being outside to like going on walks and park. Yeah. work with the kids. So yeah, I know y'all know I'm on the, my health journey and i finally made it to where I've lost 20 pounds.
00:15:36
Speaker
And it's funny because people are starting, I guess, to notice because I'm starting to get more and more. oh wow. You've lost weight. I'm like, Oh yeah. ah do you feel Like yeah a certain point people start to notice. is Isn't that kind of funny? I don't know. Yeah.
00:15:52
Speaker
yeah well, and I think it depends on the clothes that you wear, you know? Yeah. Like even Mike, Michael, Kinder's school, they were all like talking about it to me yesterday and I was like, so how does that make you feel?
00:16:05
Speaker
It makes me feel good because when you see yourself every day, honestly, i I really can't tell that big of a difference just looking at myself. But like the way I can tell a difference is my clothes and like things that fit me again and how things feel when I wear them.
00:16:21
Speaker
But it's weird how like when you look at yourself, it's I don't really see. yeah But other people do. So that's nice. Yeah. Reassuring or motivating, I guess.
00:16:33
Speaker
Yeah. Cause I still more to go. So I'm like, Oh my God. Yeah. You can bear Yes. Proud of you. Health journey. Okay. Next question.

Family Moments and Laughter

00:16:44
Speaker
What made you smile today? Um, I can say, cause this morning it was raining and i we put, i put a raincoat on Esri and she like had to have the hood on and she just looked, don't know. I was just like, took 10 pictures of her in that thing. Cause she looked so cute. Yeah.
00:17:01
Speaker
and Like all my kids, they all made me smile and they're like getting ready in the morning. Joe, i she walked out and she goes, I look good. i was like, you look so good. And then Rowan was like, I love my hair.
00:17:13
Speaker
They were just all, we just had like a good morning. You know, some mornings can be hard getting three kids ready for school, but all of them were just like, yeah, I feel good. They were feeling themselves. I love it.
00:17:24
Speaker
Well, Kendra had the largestest like loudest, loudest fart I've ever heard him have. And I was like dying laughing. Oh, my gosh. Poop again. Yeah.
00:17:36
Speaker
ah Let's see. Well, I woke up to text. So Kai, our son, is at Mo Ranch. The eighth grade class at his school does an annual trip to Mo Ranch, which is kind of like a summer camp vibe down on the Guadalupe.
00:17:50
Speaker
actually not far from the floods at camp mystic couple months or whenever that was. But so they had warned us that like the service down there doesn't work except for at where they eat breakfast and dinner.
00:18:03
Speaker
So we haven't heard from him all week. And he's left his phone in the cabin, which is great. Right. I mean, that's what they're there for, but it was funny. Cause I did them one text to just be like, Hey, you know, we miss you and love you.
00:18:17
Speaker
If you have a minute, just let us know how it's going. You know, no answer. Well, I woke up to a text this morning and it just said, it's cool.
00:18:27
Speaker
And that was it. But what made me smile about it is we met up with ah some friends of ours for dinner last night, whose daughter is also in his grade there. They're like besties. And while we were at dinner, she was receiving texts from her daughter and they were full on like video selfie videos.
00:18:46
Speaker
And she was going into all the details of the day and all the activities and how challenging they were, but she did it. and showing showing her the whole table of the friends around and say say hi to my mommy like like just very thorough so when I got Kai's message this morning of just it's cool and that was it I was it just made me smile because I'm like and that's the difference between a daughter and a son so actually a teenage daughter and son yeah yeah a 14 year old so I I'm excited for him to get home tomorrow so he can usually face to face he's a bit more talkative so
00:19:23
Speaker
That's good. Tell us about it. Yeah. Well, at least, you know, he's just living in the present. Oh, totally. Yeah. I'm excited for him because he, he hasn't experienced ah church summer camp. And so this is kind of the closest thing to it that he's done. So I'm, I'm excited for him.
00:19:40
Speaker
That's awesome. Yeah. Okay. can do one more. What is a fun fact about you? yeah Oh, I know this is so random, but I like airplane turbulence.
00:19:51
Speaker
What? You all know that, right? I don't remember that. Really? I remember she always laughs. Yeah. I just thought that was like her nervous laugh. No, I don't get nervous.
00:20:03
Speaker
I think it's like fun. Like a ride? Kind of. Yeah. Do you think it's funny that everybody else is like freaking out? Yes. Well, I feel like as I've gotten older, i have a bit more compassion and empathy. Like if I see somebody that sincerely looks frightened for their life.
00:20:20
Speaker
Yeah. But... But it is kind of funny to look around and see people stress. That's so mean. i think I think it's just because i think a long time ago, i either read or was told or something that a lot of the times with airplane turbulence, it's not danger. It's just you're going through windy cloud or whatever.
00:20:42
Speaker
So I think knowing that, or I guess I have that in the back of my mind, like we're not actually in danger. This is just like a roller, little roller coaster. Would have made a great flight attendant. Yeah, probably.
00:20:53
Speaker
i don't know though. What if I like was laughing at everybody? That wouldn't be nice. Oh my gosh. That's like the flight attendant on our flight home. he Megan and I were playing trash on the flight home and our flight attendant was really funny and he was goofy he kept coming up us like, who's winning, who's winning. Oh, I'd be like, oh, you know, and then finally the game was over and he was like, who won? And he was sitting in a seat and I i raised my hand. i was like me.
00:21:17
Speaker
Well, the girl in front of front of us couldn't see who he was talking to. And and then he goes and Megan goes, I lost. And he started going boo like this girl in front of us thought he was doing that to her.
00:21:29
Speaker
like what I do? he was like, no, no, no. Oh my gosh. How funny. funny It was pretty funny. Well, and when he first walked by, he was like, what are y'all playing? And Kristen goes trash. And he goes, yeah. Would you call me?
00:21:44
Speaker
yeah what'd you call It was pretty witty. It was so funny. And then when she came back, he came back and he asked who's winning the first time. And Kristen goes, trash.
00:21:54
Speaker
Because she thought he said. I have my headphones on. He goes, who's winning? And she goes, trash. so He was like, are you calling me trash again? Oh, my gosh.
00:22:06
Speaker
That's fun to have a fun flight attendant. It makes a big difference. yeah I feel like you would have been that flight attendant, Lauren, like making jokes in the turbulence. Be like, everybody, roller coaster.
00:22:18
Speaker
Yeah, probably. People would be highly annoyed, I'm sure. Well, a fun fact about all three of us, we can all do a three-leaf clover with our tongue. And I found out recently only one in 20,000 people can do that.
00:22:32
Speaker
Wait, really? Yeah. I feel like I've met people that can do it Yeah. I saw it. I sent it to Michael because I was like, look, it we I'm rare.
00:22:44
Speaker
I'm rare. I'm special. Yeah. Oh my gosh. That's so funny. It's crazy to me that all four of us can do it. All four kids and moms. Yeah. Crazy. Okay. What's ok what's ah another fun fact about each of you?

Kristen's Music Industry Reflections

00:22:58
Speaker
The only fun facts I can ever seem to think of are my travel when I was younger. Like I was a exchange student in Austria, but it was like a through rotary. it was like a short term one. So it was just two weeks.
00:23:09
Speaker
But I went with my friend Leslie and lived with a Austrian family and probably one of the coolest experience of my whole life, to be honest. Like every time I think back on it, it was so really, really cool. And I love Austria. Yeah.
00:23:22
Speaker
Mm-hmm. That's cool. I forget about that sometimes. Yeah. It was in Zell. Zell MC was a town that I lived in. It was this tiny, like, little mountain town. And if you ever go to Austria, I would highly recommend going there.
00:23:36
Speaker
Like, when I think back about it, it felt like I was in a fake city. Like, it was so beautiful that it was just didn't feel real. Yeah. What? How old were you when you went? I don't remember, honestly. Like, I should ask Leslie. 16 or 17. No, I was in high school.
00:23:50
Speaker
seventeen noah's in high school Oh, high school. Yeah, that was in high school. I did traveling. i studied abroad in college, but the Austria thing was in high school. and Do y'all remember? Sorry, Kristen, but it my best childhood friend Amber and her dad lived in Vienna, Austria for a big chunk of our childhood for work.
00:24:11
Speaker
and yeah And so they would travel back and forth all the time. Yeah. So I got to go with them one summer. ah It was the summer, I want to say after fifth grade before starting middle school.
00:24:25
Speaker
And it was awesome. we traveled all around and Anyways, but I, Megan, you talking about it feeling like a fake city. It just, I remember loving vi Vienna too and the areas around it.
00:24:38
Speaker
Yeah, it's so pretty there. I would say, I don't know. and Maybe that, obviously, i think a lot of people know that I can sing pretty well. But I think ah the amount of people in the industry that I've gotten to like meet and sing for is pretty cool.
00:24:52
Speaker
lot of times when I tell people and people I've sung for, they I feel like they don't believe me. And I'm like, you can ask my sister. She was there. Yeah. and Like name a few.
00:25:03
Speaker
Yeah. Like when we met with Larry Rudolph, who is Bernie Spears manager, literally it was like a dream experience because we're sitting having lunch with him and like three of the Backstreet Boys like walk by our eating lunch at the same place.
00:25:18
Speaker
Yeah. And this is back when they were huge. You were like 18 when this was happening? Yeah, I was a senior in high school. Yeah. And what year was that? So it would have been 2006 2007.
00:25:28
Speaker
Yeah. Depending on the time of year. And then I got to sing and audition for Timberland, who is a big producer. And that was really nerve wracking scary. Yeah. So I've gotten to do like really cool things. I met with Miley Cyrus's manager. i don't know if you remember that one, Megan.
00:25:45
Speaker
Yeah. I met with the head of Disney and I met with one of the heads of Nickelodeon. Mom was at those two. I'll never forget that one of the heads at Disney told me I reminded him of a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, which I thought was odd. And then mom was like, oh, that's because her sister-in-law taught her how to do makeup.

Speaker
got I'll never forget that. That's funny. Yeah. Saying Brandy, which isn't not that's pretty true, actually. so Anyway, but just really. you Yeah.
00:26:17
Speaker
I feel like, can you give us a little, you know, jig, like do a little singing? just second We always, we always prove it, prove it, prove it. Like go listen to my, my album's still on iTunes or wherever you but you can't find your country one on there.
00:26:36
Speaker
ah yeah. My country stuff isn't on there. You're right. wish. Is there a way we can get it your country songs? Cause they're so good on. Yeah. don't know. I'll have to look into it Yeah. Yeah. you can Do you ever, Kristen, do you miss the pursuit of that?
00:26:51
Speaker
Me now? but No. um think that would be really weird, but it was so fun at the time, you know, it was just so exciting. And I was so young and it just felt, don't know, like to like be pursuing your dreams is really exciting.
00:27:07
Speaker
yeah, to be able to do things like that. And then for me, i feel like it was a different life, but it's, I posted about this recently. It's still fun. Cause I still get my statements through BMI quarterly where, you know, cause you get paid for for placements that I've had and stuff. So I get to see, and it literally shows you everywhere your music is played all over the world, you know? So that's really fun to see. So it always reminds me of like my past life, if that makes sense.
00:27:34
Speaker
But no, i you know i kind of lost my passion for it and my love for it. I never was a huge stage performer. I never loved being on stage. I had a lot of stage fright and an anxiety, but I loved being in the studio. you know And I loved writing and being around the music people.
00:27:55
Speaker
world and people. so Yeah. That's cool. Yeah. Awesome.

Devotional and Spiritual Growth

00:28:01
Speaker
Well, do y'all want to end with me reading one of the, uh, yeah. Okay.
00:28:07
Speaker
I also bought that book by the way, Lauren, I've been reading it too. Oh, good. Yes. So listeners, it's a weekly devotional called revive and it's a new one, a short, short devotional each week. And then it finishes with five declarations for to declare over your week.
00:28:26
Speaker
So this one is titled God confidence is greater than self-confidence. Some days we may feel exhausted, struggling to enjoy what we used to love.
00:28:37
Speaker
We find ourselves trying to please those around us and don't take care of ourselves at all. Other days we may be more focused on us. Maybe serving others feels inconvenient.
00:28:48
Speaker
Perhaps we are easily offended. Both ways of being leave us unfulfilled, neglecting ourselves and feeling empty or being consumed by ourselves and also feeling empty.
00:29:00
Speaker
There tend to be two extremes in how we treat ourselves. Either we operate in total self-sabotage and assume it's selfish to care for our own souls, or we hyper-focus on ourselves and become completely consumed in our own bubbles and both leave us dissatisfied.
00:29:18
Speaker
So where is the middle ground? Our souls crave God confidence, the kind of confidence that infuses us with energy, trusting God's truths about who we are and not fixating on getting attention from the world around us.
00:29:33
Speaker
The kind of confidence that allows us to take our energy outward to do good to others rather than focusing on how others perceive us. This week, choose to be kind, reliable, and gracious to yourself.
00:29:47
Speaker
Not because you won't mess up, but rather because you will. And Jesus will still claim you, want to use you, and speak promises over your every step. When you mess up, don't let yourself wallow in your sin for longer than you need to.
00:30:01
Speaker
Believe that God is ready to forgive and ask him to direct your steps to get back on mission. Let your God-given identity direct your day. offering you peace and strength in every hour.
00:30:15
Speaker
Don't be surprised when others don't understand your mission or the timeline doesn't line up with what culture says is acceptable. You have the power of the Holy Spirit inside of you.
00:30:25
Speaker
That means the living God has decided to take up residence in your heart and equip you with the creativity, courage, and capability that only heaven can provide. When you give God your best and let his confidence become the foundation of your life, you will thrive.
00:30:42
Speaker
Draw ah circle around yourself. This is the only person you can control. Dig deep into the love of the father. Refuse to live in self-obsession and decide that this week you will saturate everything you do in the unmerited favor of the living God.
00:30:58
Speaker
Let his love be your confidence. And the five declarations over our week are number one, I will wake up each day and walk in God confidence. Number two, I will be a kind and reliable friend to myself, encouraging my own heart and believing God's truth about myself.
00:31:16
Speaker
Number three, I will walk in the assurance of God's timeline, not letting the pressure from the world cripple my perspective or confidence. Number four, I will give my best to my family and trust God to sustain all else.
00:31:31
Speaker
And lastly, number five, I will reflect on the goodness of God. His faithfulness will be the focus of my thoughts and conversation. I love that. It's just on time. I, it actually reminds me of like my personal journey, like that whole thing, because I've always cared so much what people thought of me that it almost became like an idol or a God, like where I was seeking approval and I still fall into it sometimes.
00:31:56
Speaker
So yeah, I feel like that's right on point. And I'm doing my renew your mind free webinar tomorrow night. Well, this will be airing after it, but yeah. You can check out my website mindset with Megan. I'm going to start doing more regular free webinars, but it's actually a lot about what you just talked about, how it's like a journey of surrender over and over again, because we all have like free will. And I think that starts in our thoughts. So we have a, I think we have more of a choice in what we think than we think we do.
00:32:25
Speaker
So stepping out of like old mindsets, taking one thought at a time and replacing it with God's truth, remembering who he says you are. But when you've lived one way your whole life, it actually, it's really difficult to do. Like it takes a consistent effort. Reading the devotional, it's so beautiful. But then if you don't actually put it into practice day to day, you know, your subconscious will always go back to your old way of thinking. So you have to really practice it.
00:32:49
Speaker
yeah And I think sometimes because we're human and because we are sinners, I think that some people might struggle with like, who am i you know, and i just want, I want everybody to remember that, and the Holy, you know, when you accept Jesus in your heart, the Holy spirit is inside of us.
00:33:12
Speaker
And to maybe just switch that like what Megan's saying of the mindset of who am i instead say, you know, i am worthy of receiving the gifts that God has given me and using them for our good and his glory. And why wouldn't it, why not us, you know,
00:33:32
Speaker
that we get this one little life here and it's just, it's overwhelming.

Conclusion and Prayer

00:33:37
Speaker
i think to accept that, like the creator of the world and of us loves each one of us so intimately and so deeply, and it's just there for us, no matter what, you know, there's nothing that we can't, we're never too far gone for him. He's always there if we seek him, you know, i don't know. It's just so overwhelming when you really think about it.
00:33:58
Speaker
Yeah. It really is. Yeah. I think like you're saying a lot of people think like, well, that's for that person. It's not for me, but it's actually for all of us.
00:34:08
Speaker
Yeah. That's good. Yeah. Yeah. Well, anything else? Love it. Love y'all. Yeah. Love you. Should we all do we sing a little song together to finalize this? I'm just kidding.
00:34:20
Speaker
Kristen's like, stop making me sing. Who am Lord of all the earth. I care to know my name. care to feel my heart. I wish I could think better.
00:34:36
Speaker
You can. i know, but it's a little bit, you know, rocky. Yeah. I sing to God all the time for sure. Okay. Do you want to pray, Lulu? Sure. Okay.
00:34:47
Speaker
Heavenly Father, thank you for right now. Thank you for waking each of us up today for another day of life here. And i just pray that each person listening invites the Holy Spirit into their heart and just moment by moment is reminded of who you are in your goodness and that we all can just spread your grace that you've given us that we, none of us deserve, but we can go and just spread that
00:35:21
Speaker
with the world around us who we encounter every day and for us to just shine your light and just to remind everybody how loved they are. And yeah, we just thank you for who you are and giving us the Bible and your words so that we have that to fall back on in all circumstances. And i just pray for every person listening that no matter what they're going through, what life is handing them, what circumstance they're in,
00:35:49
Speaker
if it's a high season or low season that we just practice the practice of finding true peace, no matter what is going on around us.
00:36:00
Speaker
And we do that by, by showing up and coming to you and all things. We love you so much in your name. We pray. Amen. See you next week.
00:36:10
