Hello and welcome to the Girl I Slept in My Makeup podcast by three sisters who are at three different life stages and have three different perspectives. They're excited to learn and grow alongside of you. This is a space full of love and acceptance.
00:00:12
Speaker
No judgment because let's face it, sleeping in your makeup is more than a podcast title. It's a reminder that we all mess up. So give yourself and others lots of grace. Please welcome my three little sisters, Lauren, Megan, and Kristen.
Weather and Seasonal Changes
00:00:32
Speaker
Hey sisters. Hi. Hi. Can we say happy fall yet? know. Almost. It feels like it because it's so cooled off here. I know was 68 degrees when i walk we walked to school this morning and I couldn't believe it. I looked at the temperature. I was like, is this like a fake fall? Like it can't be full yet.
00:00:52
Speaker
What's happening? It's definitely a tease, I think. Yeah, I'll take it. I saw shirt that says coffee weather and I was like, oh, I like that. So
Summer Recap and Family Time
00:01:00
Speaker
cute. well it's been a whole summer since we've done a new episode. yeah.
00:01:06
Speaker
Welcome back. How, I don't know, give the highlights. How was your summers? It was good. This summer for us was a little bit more, it was slow, slower than previous summers. And I think it's probably because we just didn't do as much traveling, but so it was, it was good in a lot of ways, restful.
00:01:25
Speaker
And at the end of summer was a good highlight of coming to see y'all for 10 days. And so that was nice. I was there for back-to-back sectional tennis tournaments and decided to stay in between. And so I got a lot of quality time. I felt like with both of you and the rest of the family.
00:01:44
Speaker
So that was really nice because i don't think that I had seen y'all in person since Christmas. Yeah, I know. Yeah, I feel like we have a sister weekend coming up. We're going my Megan and I are driving to Lubbock.
Sister Weekend in Lubbock
00:01:59
Speaker
Yes, they they left Texas. Yeah, was there. Y'all are taking a break from your little kiddos and coming to stay with me. Yes.
00:02:09
Speaker
Funny enough, I feel like Lubbock, you know, might not be the destin on the destination list, but it's really relaxing, especially because you're older sister. So it's comforting in general, but like your, if anybody knows you, like you have a very comforting presence and home.
00:02:24
Speaker
So ah great get away. yeah Yeah. Well, I feel like Lubbock in general is just the pace of life is really nice and fitting for what we wanted anyway at this, at this season of our life.
00:02:38
Speaker
But we we love it. But also, it's not very pretty here. So but that's why we travel a lot to just get away and remember what trees look like and hills. And yeah, so it's very like desert and dirt and flat.
00:02:56
Speaker
Oh, my gosh. But we have beautiful sunrises and sunsets. So there you go. And the people are amazing. Yes. So true. Yeah. And no oh, my gosh, no traffic. That's another one. Yeah.
00:03:07
Speaker
Every time I leave the Metroplex, I always come home and I'm like, oh, I'm just so grateful that I can get across town anywhere in Lubbock in 20 minutes and run all of my errands in 30 minutes and be back home. So yeah, I know that is definitely a luxury that you don't think about until you have it.
00:03:25
Speaker
Yeah. Anyways, what about y'all?
Kids' Summer Activities and Family Trips
00:03:28
Speaker
I'm trying to think of like the specific highlights. We did mostly, we drove for our travel. So probably the highlight of summer camps was the girls did a horseback riding summer camp and they loved that. They had the time of their life and they were both so brave. i thought I was really impressed because, you know, horses can be intimidating and they haven't ridden horses a lot and they had no fear, got right on there. And they did like a little show at the end of the camp.
00:03:57
Speaker
It was all very beginner, but they did a great job. And then the other, i don't know, there were so many highlights. I mean, we had so much fun in Austin, so much fun in Arkansas. Jo got to do her summer camp. She gave her life to Christ at summer camp.
00:04:10
Speaker
Oh, that's huge. Yeah. yeah I don't know if I told you all that. That was like the first thing she said to me. When i picked her up, it was so sweet. And then we went to Branson and that was really fun too.
00:04:21
Speaker
Kristen was there for that. And ah Joe turned 10 this summer. And so that's my oldest. And we met her best friend that moved back to Kentucky. ah We met them halfway and then another family came and met us too. And then Kristen and Michael and Kinder came. And so it was a lot. It was 10 kids in one house, but Branson's really pretty. If you're trying to find somewhere to drive from Dallas, it's not too, too horrible.
00:04:46
Speaker
And there's a lot of taller trees. And I felt like our view from our house is really relaxing. Gatlinburg's little sister, like yeah sister. Yeah. They're very similar in a lot of ways.
00:04:58
Speaker
Gatlinburg's a lot of fun too. Yes. just longer to drive but I've heard I would love to go to Gatlinburg one day but yeah Branson was cool we got to go on a boat one day and yeah I feel like it's flown by but now it's like coming up on Labor Day we're gonna get to do another lake weekend so I kind of feel like it's still summer-esque a little bit I wish they still did school where it didn't start until after Labor Day i know I do too I will say yeah I was ready for my kids to get back in school. The dark side of summer was that it really was hard on my brain. Having Joe and Rowan home every day, ezri was home, some of it.
00:05:38
Speaker
it was just hard to work. and try to make them like have the best summer ever. The combination is just too much. So yeah, my brain was overwhelmed. So they've been back in school for like two weeks and I feel like a little bit more sane.
00:05:52
Speaker
Yeah. I know someone was saying, i forget who told us this, but they were like, yeah, once you have kids, you don't go on vacation. You, you just travel with kids. or said something like that. think it was me. I was saying they call it, I told you this too. but everybody else Yeah. i was like, well, once you have kids, it's not vacations with kids.
Health and Travel Challenges
00:06:12
Speaker
Like the vacation is when you take like an adult trip, but it's called a trip because basically you're just, yeah you're transporting your family to another place and you're just doing life. Like you're not like relaxed.
00:06:24
Speaker
this Yeah, because we went to Mexico for a full week. Luckily, we brought Michael's dad and his girlfriend. So that was helpful. But it was definitely not, you know, Michael and i used to go to Mexico like once a year.
00:06:39
Speaker
and I was like, well, this is quite a different experience. Yeah. We still had a great time. We're just kind of, Kendra's started, i guess they, say i hate to say it, but like a terrible two era. He's not even two yet, but I'm pretty sure he's in that era. So I feel like he's going to be an easy three-year-old because some people say like three is like really tough. I feel like this is our tough time, hopefully.
00:07:04
Speaker
Oh my gosh. So I just didn't realize like my focus this summer has been on myself. I'm just really trying to like focus on my health and, um, you know, really lose the weight that I've gained.
00:07:18
Speaker
You know, i had gained weight when, after losing mom, I'd gained some weight. I'd really, I think I've talked about this before where like Food and alcohol became a really big crutch for me during my deep breathing days. And then, of course, getting pregnant, you know, I gained weight on top of there. So I've just not felt like myself in quite a while. This summer, I feel like has been like really dedicated to like health and getting, you know, going to the gym every day and like ah really focusing on eating whole yummy foods and, you know, all the things. So traveling was hard because I don't know why it's so hard for me, but when I travel,
00:07:54
Speaker
I cannot stay in my routine. Like it is, I'm sure I could, but it is really hard for me. Like, I feel like it takes just a lot of prep work. So, yeah. And I don't know if it's because, you know, I have ADD or ADHD and it's, there's something there that like, when I'm out of my norm, like my brain doesn't want to do any of the things.
00:08:15
Speaker
Does that make sense? I don't know. If anybody else has ADD, you'll understand, I think, probably. Yeah, and I think it's hard for everyone traveling because you're also having to eat out at restaurants more. You just can't always find the food. Like even going to the grocery store in Branson, like it was different.
00:08:32
Speaker
You know, the grocery store is different. So yeah, no, I definitely think travel makes it hard.
Pickleball Passion and House Projects
00:08:36
Speaker
Yeah, it does. And so I think I was just ready because I normally love to travel, but I think I'm just so focused on like feeling good that like, I'm like, okay, no, I just need to stay in my routine. And this is just what life needs to look like for a little while.
00:08:50
Speaker
Yeah. and and And that pick pickleball pickleball. Oh yeah. i literally, I think I've talked about pickleball. Like seriously, if you want to commit to the gym, find something you really love to do. I literally cannot miss a day. Like I sit literally, i swear it's like therapy. Yeah. Honestly. Like i got therapy or a drug. No, i'm just kidding. Yeah.
00:09:11
Speaker
Maybe both. I don't know. And I got brought Lauren. She got to play pickleball with me. We didn't lose a game. Well, actually we lost one, but I won't talk about why, what happened. Yeah. That didn't, that didn't count. You i didn't count basically Kristen's, she left her brain on the sideline because of a reason.
00:09:28
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. there Long story shirt. There's a really big jerk that shouldn't be allowed out in public. like yeah and He yelled at me for no reason. Anyway. So my brain was just like thrown off and I was in the game and I was in the game. So yeah really want to do like plan. Brian plans to draw pickleball lines, I think on his tennis court. So I think we should do like a family tournament.
00:09:52
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. fun. That would be fun. Yeah. Kristen was like, I said, okay, so I had already played one tennis tournament the weekend before. And then this was on Tuesday, the following Tuesday. Oh, Monday. Yeah.
00:10:05
Speaker
And I said, okay, so what time is it from? And she's like two to 6 PM. And I was like, hold it up. What? Yeah. I'm like four hours of pickleball because I've only ever played once and it really wasn't actual play. It was just kind of learning the rules.
00:10:22
Speaker
So technically, I've never actually played real matches of pickleball. So yeah anyways, it was so it was three or four hours, but you take breaks in between. So it wasn't like. that straight. But I mean, was a solid workout.
00:10:35
Speaker
Oh yeah. When I go, I burn around a thousand calories every time. So yeah it's been, and then I'm just having fun, you know? And so, yeah, well you're having fun because you are dominating.
00:10:47
Speaker
yeah in First place in the women's league. Yeah. My first ever league in the, they told me I have to do the next ones because I feel like now everyone's going to come for me. Cause yeah.
00:11:00
Speaker
Last one. So fun. It'll probably be hard, but fun. A summer and pickleball. Yeah. And then but the biggest other thing is building our house that has been delayed, delayed and delayed. I'm sure if you've built a house, you can understand that. ah So we finally will be breaking ground.
00:11:18
Speaker
Beginning of October. Yay. yeah Yay. yeah So exciting. Yes. That is very exciting. Being my own designer is fun, but also really hard. So designers are good at what they do.
00:11:31
Speaker
Yeah, for sure. And just a little, that was like a sneak peek because we're going to have an interior designer on. I know that's different house designer. Isn't there like two? She does both actually. Oh, she does both. Okay, cool. The we're going to be interviewing, she actually does both, but not all designers do that. So i think she's unique in that sense.
00:11:49
Speaker
But yeah, we've usually always hired ah interior designers for our houses that we've built. But I was like, I feel like I want to, if I want to get more into development and that be more of my focus, I feel like that's something I need to grow and learn and be able to do myself. So yeah, this is my getting big house of doing that.
00:12:09
Speaker
So cool. I would totally have decision paralysis or whatever that's called, because when I have too many choices in front of me, I just... get paralyzed. Yeah. That's the hardest part. I think that's why so far lighting fixtures have been the hardest for me because there's just endless options. And you like, once you think one is right, you're like, wait, but this one is great, but should I do that? And it's, it's a lot. So you kind of just have to like make a decision, you know,
00:12:38
Speaker
me and almost treat it as if, or at least for me, I almost have to be like, okay, this is not my forever home. Just make a decision. And that will appeal to the masses because one day we will probably sell this house. Right. So, but I know when you build, it's more going to be y'all's forever home, but maybe you could trick your brain and just be like, okay, this is not.
00:12:57
Speaker
Yeah. Oh no. I'll be hiring somebody. I know myself too. Well, I would drive myself insane. Yeah. The, what's nice about the interior designer is they will limit your options. I feel like, yeah that's not but you're still going to have a hard time because you're going to be like, yeah this what about you know, so.
00:13:14
Speaker
Yes. No, but I need somebody to come to me and just say, here's your three options. Choose one. Or, you know, if, if I don't love any of them, just be like, I like this about this one, but come back at me with this, you you know? wow Yeah. Yeah.
00:13:27
Speaker
So I can do that, but I need somebody to definitely hold my hand and lead, lead the way. I'm surprised by that. I feel like you're a good decision maker, Lauren. Well, I am about some things. ah Okay.
00:13:38
Speaker
Yeah. But I think when it comes to like home design and stuff, I just like too many different styles. And I think that that really hurts my brain. That makes sense. Yeah. That's hard. Yeah.
00:13:50
Speaker
I'm excited to see the final product. chris I know. I want to, I want to like take videos and like kind of show through the whole process. I think it would be fun to see. So. Yes.
Family Memories and Legacy Cards
00:14:02
Speaker
One thing I thought we could talk about today too is my church came up with these like legacy cards. Basically it's like you pick a card from a deck, you read it out loud and each person takes turns sharing their answer.
00:14:13
Speaker
And it's supposed to be something you do with like your family or friends. So figured we could maybe draw a few cards, answer them. And then the goal is to just learn more about your family and grow closer through conversation. And then anybody listening, like you could take these questions and ask at the dinner table tonight, if you are so inclined, y'all want to do that now?
00:14:32
Speaker
Yeah, except really quick before we start, I was so laughing last night. why listeners, as the whole world probably knows, I live under a rock, but I mean, that's not what the whole world knows.
00:14:43
Speaker
Everybody knows about Taylor Swift getting engaged. But last night, Megan sent us a reel of this guy mocking. it was like a funny reel. And it was like every girl on the internet right now. And it was like, oh my God, da, da, da.
00:14:57
Speaker
And I open it and I'm just sitting there like, okay, what is, what does this mean? Like, I had no idea. so then I was like, okay, something must've happened in the news. So then I went searching and obviously found it, but I was just laughing. i was like, when did this happen? Well, you weren't late because it happened literally the same day.
00:15:15
Speaker
Yeah, I know. That's what I said. I was like, well, I'm guessing I'm not that late. It's still same day. yeah yeah Well, you know, what's really funny is I was out working and guess who sent me the news?
00:15:26
Speaker
michael Bobby. oh Yes. And I was like, what? How did you get this news before me? And how are you the one sending it to me? And he was like, well, believe it or not, it was in our guys chat.
00:15:38
Speaker
And I was like, done. Oh my gosh. Travis Kelsey, of course. Yeah. Yeah. So it's just so funny because I feel like all the guys like to hate on how much they see Taylor Swift everywhere now. But I'm like, but y'all are talking about her.
00:15:50
Speaker
ah Like, what are y'all doing? But no, I'm so happy for them. And I do feel like whatever garden they got engaged in, it just, um I was like, are you sure Taylor didn't plan that? Cause that's like, looks exactly like when you put her song, it's a love story. It just fit. It was so cute.
00:16:05
Speaker
So happy for them. Okay. Sorry to derail, but yes, we can get into the cards. Well, we have to talk about, you know, Who's not talking about it? Current events. Yeah.
00:16:16
Speaker
We're not good about that, but I know. Love it. Okay. So if we all just pull one out and then if we don't want to answer it, we don't have to. Okay. What is your favorite memory? Pretty broad. How about let's go with like, what's your favorite childhood memory?
00:16:31
Speaker
I can go first. I think I have a couple, but I feel like my favorite childhood memories We're probably traveling together just because we got more one-on-one time. Our sailing trip that we took was probably like a core memory. It's like, e that was going to be mine. Yeah.
00:16:50
Speaker
I feel like it's probably like all of ours. Cause it was such a cool trip. And then going to Disney right after that. I remember that being a really core memory too. Yeah. I wasn't there with y'all for that. How dare you?
00:17:01
Speaker
i know. How dare me have to go back for a volleyball tournament? Yeah. Just growing up. Yeah. So yeah, that was going to be one of my, I think, because if you can imagine, well, first of all, in our family dynamic, our parents, or this was my experience anyway.
00:17:18
Speaker
Because I was kind of the peacemaker in our parents when they they would get really stressed out before we traveled. So there would be a lot of bickering and arguing. But then once we actually got to the destination, I felt like our parents, they got along the best when we traveled.
00:17:34
Speaker
and seemed to like enjoy each other's company. And so I always looked forward to traveling and most of our travels, by the way, growing up were for like sporting events and stuff like that. But this specific trip was a really big deal. Like, it's not like we did stuff like that all the time.
00:17:49
Speaker
yeah But we, the, the sailing trip, we were all on. So all six of us, plus the captain of the boat were on a, I don't remember how many foot catamaran, but like no air conditioner. It was very tight quarters.
00:18:03
Speaker
And during the day, when we were making the sailing trips, we all had to be up, up on top because if you were below deck, you would get sick. So we were literally laying on top of each other while we sailed. So it was just very intimate. Yeah. And I think with all four of us in our different ages and stuff, we didn't get to do that a lot. We weren't that together that much over that long of a time. So I think that's what stands out to me. And we just had so many unique experiences every day on that trip. So I think also some of my favorite memories are like the funny ones where like, they weren't funny at the time necessarily, but looking back, they were like hysterical when dad got stuck in the water, he like couldn't get out. We had to call the ambulance and fire truck and Megan was crying. I was calling, we were calling the police. Mom was laughing, like just like the chaos of it all. Like things like that are just so funny to think back on. Yeah.
00:19:00
Speaker
Yeah. For sure. Definitely funny to reminisce. Love it. Okay. I'll pull another card.
Kindness, Aging, and Personal Growth
00:19:07
Speaker
What is something nice you could say to yourself? Oh, it's like I wrote this.
00:19:12
Speaker
Just kidding. I guess that's something nice I said to myself. Oh, I could have wrote this. I would say I would love really hard and like, I'm a fighter for my loved ones and like, I'm very persistent.
00:19:27
Speaker
So I think that's something I could say. Love it. What about you, Lauren? Sorry. The question was, um, what is something nice you could say to yourself that my trust God and having hope no matter what is strong.
00:19:43
Speaker
Yeah. I love that. I guess I could pick a different thing since mine was kind of silly. Um, and those were both very good. i am a great mom and wife and i really care a lot ah about everybody in my life.
00:19:59
Speaker
Yes. You do. Okay. That's sweet. Okay. How do you show kindness to others? I think one of the ways is by reminding people to give them themselves grace, honestly, and that whatever they they're beating themselves up about is really not a big deal and to forgive themselves and move on.
00:20:22
Speaker
Yeah. Yeah. I think that was partly what i was going to say is just in a silly way, like giving hugs and being as welcoming as possible to know that they're not alone in this world.
00:20:34
Speaker
and then also just trying to, i guess like being vulnerable too. So it's trying to be vulnerable so that they can feel comfortable Cause I feel like so many people are so closed off.
00:20:47
Speaker
So like when I'm in conversations, like knowing, like you're saying, like giving grace, like knowing that they're not alone. in whatever they're going through and just being kind of like open arms.
00:20:58
Speaker
Yeah. At least I try to do that. I don't think I always succeed, but and of the love language too. Cause I feel like obviously my biggest one is spending time. So I feel like I give a lot of time to people, yeah loved ones, obviously, but like you have intentional conversations with, you know?
00:21:20
Speaker
Yeah. I think too, something that, All three of us do. And maybe this has even gotten more after just going through mom dying and everything. But I think that all three of us are pretty great about just saying the things, you know, like just ah if we...
00:21:43
Speaker
feel something towards somebody, we go ahead and let them know yeah where, even if it's awkward sometimes. So I think that as humans, we naturally tend to hold back ah maybe how we feel about somebody, a friend or whatever, or just little compliments that go through your head, but you don't always say out loud.
00:22:02
Speaker
And so i think that we're not really shy to just say the things and make somebody feel good. Yeah, for sure. I've tried to recently as well, pray for people more when I feel like the prompting, like I prayed for somebody today.
00:22:19
Speaker
i don't always remember to do it. And it's like all in the day, I'll start my day and be like, God, show me if there's someone for me to pray for. Just because I feel like there's only so much kindness that I can show.
00:22:29
Speaker
and That's at least how I feel like that God can help them more. So i try to do that more and more. it's It's uncomfortable sometimes, but like the more you do it, the more you're just like, oh, okay, well, God, let them see you and not how awkward I feel. Thank you.
00:22:45
Speaker
Yeah. Okay, let's do one more. And okay, what is the best thing about being your age right now? Oh, not giving an F. love it.
00:23:00
Speaker
That's what I love. I just think that as we get older, I mean, I've slightly been like that just now naturally, but but also I totally cared when I was younger, you know, as when I think back as a kid and the things I would get embarrassed about or or just whatever. hu And then I've always felt secure and like knowing who I am, but yeah, just little things. It's, it's like, as you get older, it's just so nice and freeing to be like, I don't give an F. Yeah.
00:23:31
Speaker
So good. Yeah. I mean, I can relate to that too. i feel like Just, yeah, thinking about even in my twenty early 20s, you know, the difference.
00:23:42
Speaker
And just becoming a mom and, I don't know, like being married. And I've always, you know, you dream about having a family and what that looks like. And so to actually be in that is really fun and cool. yeah And just, you know, being patient with yourself and as being a mom.
00:23:58
Speaker
So, yeah, i think i I love this time. Like I think it's even easier in a lot of ways than when I was younger. Yeah. Yeah. I'm trying to really be grateful for this time. And I hope this doesn't hurt anyone who wishes they could be pregnant right now, but being past having kids feels really good for me.
00:24:18
Speaker
Yeah. and Like I know I'm done and I did it but I feel like having three kids, I was pregnant all of my thirties and having babies and, you know, C-sections and just all of that. I'm like, Oh my gosh, it's just feels like exciting that,
00:24:35
Speaker
like I'm really focused on just being healthy in my own body and like having my body be my own again after, you know, nursing three babies and all of that. So I'm really enjoying that. And also knowing that, i don't know if this sounds negative too, like we just age from here, like being really grateful for like my body in general, you know, like that it can do all the things and I want to nourish it well, like so that I can age well, but also still be super active with my kids.
00:25:02
Speaker
Like somebody told me today, actually at the Cairo office, where I was like, well, I'm 39. And you know, my hormones, we were talking about all this and that. She was like, you're 39. And I was like, yeah. She was like, I thought you were way younger than that. And I was like, well,
00:25:15
Speaker
Thank you. So like, I'm trying to really take in those moments because one day I'll be like 80 and you know, people really mean that because I get that a lot at pickleball too. When I tell people like, oh my God, I thought you were like 25. And I was like, really? I'm like, do people really mean that? Cause it's really nice. And I love it. I'm like, are they really thinking that, you know? Yeah. Are they just being sweet? I don't know. Who knows, but we'll just take it as truth, you know? Yeah.
00:25:41
Speaker
Yeah. I mean, I'll take it all day. i think also too, something that I like about getting older is, you know, I feel like your twenties are just kind of, they're rough in a lot of ways of like the pressure that we just put on ourselves to think that we need to have it all figured out.
00:25:59
Speaker
And I think at some point, you realize the power of just letting that go. And that's kind of what life is all about. And newsflash, I don't think any any of us ever have it truly figured out, you know, but that's also the beautiful thing is for us to keep learning and growing until the day that we die.
00:26:18
Speaker
And, you know, I remember mom always saying, it's so weird. I'm in my fifties. Cause I literally feel like a kid still, you know, and yeah that just rings so true for me too. It's, we, we do get older, but our hearts still feel young and hopefully Megan, to your point, our bodies and me in my four mid forties, I feel better today than I did, i don't know, for a long time. So i think just the freedom that comes with relaxing a little bit and kind of focusing on the big picture of life and what really matters.
00:26:52
Speaker
And to be able to tell yourself it's hard because I go through this with Kai, who my son turned 14 this summer. And you know, the things that they care about at that age and they do seem, and they are so big to them, you know, at at really at at any age.
00:27:06
Speaker
And so it's so hard for the, my, these words fall short because it's like, you kind of just have to experience it for yourself and live through it. But I wish you, they could have the perspective of just knowing that everything's going to be okay. And this really, it's not a big deal in the grand scheme.
00:27:21
Speaker
And that if you can, if we, the more we can focus on the big picture. And for me, That's really my relationship with God and spreading love. Like, and so if I break it down to just be pretty simple, then all the little stuff that stresses me out during my days, if I can go back to that, it's like, huh, I can have peace and breathe, you know?
00:27:44
Speaker
Yeah, so true. And speaking of taking care of your bodies, I'm going to plug. I have been so obsessed with don't go to the coffee shop anymore or Starbucks, even though this is a Starbucks cup.
Health Recommendations and Influencing
00:27:56
Speaker
but i I just like their cups, I guess.
00:27:58
Speaker
But I found this. i I don't drink coffee, but I drink chai and matcha. And a lot of that stuff has like a lot of sugars, you know, and stuff like that. But I'm so excited because Taylor Duke's wellness, if y'all haven't, I feel like we've talked about her before.
00:28:11
Speaker
so fine She came out with a chai and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. It's so good. I keep forgetting to order it. I need to order it. I drink it every day with my almond milk. And, you know, it's just in my health journey. and It's just, I love it. And she has a lot of other really great products products, especially my favorite, her electrolytes. But if you're also on a health journey and wanting to substitute some Starbucks or whatever, you should definitely try it. Cause it's really good.
00:28:38
Speaker
Yeah. And that's it this is not an ad for Taylor Dukes, but you know I actually order not all, but the majority of my supplements that I take, I take her Omega.
00:28:49
Speaker
i take her magnesium is one of my favorite ones of hers. I take two of those a night and her multivitamin. I take like four or five of hers. So I just try, I trust her brand. Cause she it's all the, all the clean ingredients.
00:29:03
Speaker
Yeah. And my son, looked like I got her lemonade and Michael and my little son, almost two year old love it. And he also is obsessed with the electrolytes. And I'm like, wait, can he have electrolytes?
00:29:14
Speaker
But he's like, we'll not put it down if I make one. So hopefully it's fine. I want to order her coffee too. I keep forgetting. So I need to order her chai and her coffee. No. again Well, speaking of coffee, cause I used to order Taylor Dukes coffee beans. She only has the whole unless she came out, but it used to just be the beans. I have a grinder, but yeah, I do too. But anyways, she sold out for a long time and like, couldn't, it was like on back stock and I'm like, I gotta to have my coffee. Yeah. So anyways, I started ordering from a ah company out of Austin called Lenova.
00:29:50
Speaker
L-U-N-O-V-A. and And it's all the mold free. It's all the good. but because they have like an espresso bean by chance? I don't know. Look, I order the medium and the light beans. Okay.
00:30:04
Speaker
I'm going love the beans. Yeah. I feel like I need a mold free one. Cause I wonder if that affects me cause I drink a lot of coffee. Yeah. I love the taste and I love the taste because sometimes I've tried a couple other mold free ones that they're okay, but I didn't love it. And I really liked the taste of this one. So I just have it on repeat order and that way I'm never out of coffee.
00:30:26
Speaker
Awesome. Yeah. look a Becca was staying with us this weekend, you know? Yeah. And so our, ah friend that we grew up with actually our brother, Brian and Brandy grew up with her and her husband, but so did we. so they just moved their daughter to Lubbock as a freshman at Texas tech. And so they've been staying with us a lot.
00:30:46
Speaker
And Becca was here and she was, we were dying laughing because she was going around. She forgot her toiletry bag, poor thing. And so she was using my, all my toiletries and stuff. And she was just like going around my house, like with the coffee, the Lenovo and all my skincare stuff. She was like, my entire camera roll is just taking pictures of all your stuff. And now I need to go order it all.
00:31:07
Speaker
It was funny. Yeah. Well, I've always told you, like, I feel like you could be an influencer because you influence everyone in your life. Like you always have the best products. I'm like still not an influencer, but just the people in my real life.
00:31:21
Speaker
You're a micro influencer. They just don't know about you. Yeah, exactly. there you go. honey Yeah. Yeah. I love it. Before we closed out for summer, Lauren, you were in the process of reading on our sister chats, a devotional
Devotional Reflections and Podcast Conclusion
00:31:37
Speaker
to us. Did you want to do that? Yeah, I'll do that. This is, this is from the devotional by ah clear cherry Reeves.
00:31:45
Speaker
She's so good. And it's called revive and it gives a weekly devotional. And then at the end it has ah five, Or yeah, it has five declarations that you can pray or stay over your week and they're they're short. So I am just going off of where I left off last. So this one is called choosing self-control when it's not easy.
00:32:12
Speaker
I was exhausted after preparing for a big presentation for work, frustrated by the fact that my colleagues had delegated the bulk of the project to me. I wanted to stop short and teach them a lesson.
00:32:23
Speaker
However, I knew that by doing that, I would hurt myself as well. Though I stayed the course, I remember having to really fight my flesh. I had to remind myself that the person I was representing was Jesus, not myself.
00:32:37
Speaker
That helped me to practice self-control. Have you ever struggled to do what you know is best for you? Most of the good things that come to us, family relationships, a healthy church community, positive mental and physical health require slow and steady commitment.
00:32:53
Speaker
What do you do when you find yourself tempted to slack off or veer from what you know is best? It doesn't feel glamorous to talk about self-control, does it? It doesn't fun sound fun or exciting, but the reality of your week is this.
00:33:08
Speaker
Your peace and your power will be based on your ability to walk in self-control. The things you say yes and no to will determine the road you travel and and destiny that you experience.
00:33:20
Speaker
There will never be a shortage of distractions or alluring opportunities that offer immediate gratification. That's why Jesus talked about self-control throughout scripture. He won't be surprised when you want to turn down roads that aren't for you.
00:33:34
Speaker
That's why he reminds you that you've been equipped to endure power to persevere and set apart to be self-disciplined in the spirit. The creator wired your body wove your heart together and has written your story. So you don't have to fear the future.
00:33:50
Speaker
If you are living according to God's word, you are right where you need to be. Remember who is for you, who is with you and who lives inside you. It is impossible for the keeper of your soul to take you down a path that is bad for you.
00:34:03
Speaker
That's comforting. What practices helps you stay focused on God when you feel tempted? Craft rhythms around those disciplines. What guards your mind from things to avoid and opens your heart to pay attention to life-giving truths?
00:34:18
Speaker
Self-control is a muscle strengthened by walking in awareness in the smallest of ways. Let the calming and presence of the Holy Spirit set the tone for each day. Self-control is your companion because the Holy Spirit is your helper.
00:34:32
Speaker
And the five declarations that we can pray over our week are number one, I will practice self-control in my thought life. Number two, I will proclaim truth and hope over every area of my life.
00:34:44
Speaker
Number three, I will keep my eyes on things that uplift my soul and support my peace. Number four, i will trust the good shepherd to meet my every emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual need.
00:34:57
Speaker
And number five, I will be slow to jump to conclusions, letting the calming presence of the Holy spirit guide my mind and heart. I love that. It's beautiful. Yeah. What does that bring up for y'all? What comes to mind? i feel like I almost want you to screenshot that last page to me because I'm a visual learner.
00:35:17
Speaker
For the declarations? Yeah, the declarations. I just love, so it's, I love how God always speaks the same thing to me at the same time. Yeah. word declare has been like a theme over the past week and a half for me.
00:35:32
Speaker
listened to it like at a church sermon, it was on a podcast and then it was in my secret place. And I created my own social post about the words we have and how they're like seeds and how to choose to declare something before you see it.
00:35:48
Speaker
So I just love that she has that in there, like declare over your wheat and something to go back to. Cause I think throughout the days we get pulled away, we drift away from God. And so having something to go back to, and that's why I like to have like a specific thing I'm working on. i do like a 90 day, you know, usually push with my journal, but these are great things to like, remember, come back to.
00:36:12
Speaker
Yeah. Kristen, what about you? think the, a lot of my life right now is, is practicing self-control. so that's a huge theme for me right now. Yeah. With your health.
00:36:24
Speaker
Is that what you're thinking? Yeah. I think. I think the health, because obviously I thought about that a lot too, that's kind of ah an easy thing to think through that practicing this.
00:36:35
Speaker
and But one thing that kind of came to mind for me as I was reading through that is kind of self-control in my reactions and parenting and just with my family, you know, and it's just take that pause and invite the Holy spirit in before responding or reacting and to to, make sure that my, to have more self-control with my words and be slower to speak, you know, and really think through if what I'm speaking is life-giving or not.
00:37:07
Speaker
Yeah, I agree with that. I feel, I think I told y'all just the other day that I felt like God was preparing me for hostage negotiations or something with dealing with three girls that are so stubborn. And so like, i feel like I've had to practice self-control so much in my emotions with, because they trigger me so easily. Like kids trigger us the most. They know us the most, like they're like us the most.
00:37:32
Speaker
And so, yeah. And especially when there's just like a tantrum that makes no sense, like from a three-year-old and they're screaming bloody or murder. Like I just had to sit there and just pray, you know, like, God, how do i what do I do? how do i work through this? And in the past I would just get like so frustrated and and it would ruin my whole day. So I agree with that. Like self-control.
00:37:53
Speaker
in my reactions, in my emotions is huge. Yes. And on that note, I wasn't planning to share this, but I listened to at some point during the summer, I was listening to a ah parenting podcast and I loved how, and mom kind of said this too. Mom always told us that our children were our greatest teachers, but this, this lady took it even further. And she said, parenting is never about the kids.
00:38:18
Speaker
It's always about us, you know? So that has really stuck out in my mind over the past several months because any time of frustration or whatever, I'm just like, okay, Lauren, this is not about him. It's about you. very, very humbling. So true.
00:38:37
Speaker
So good. Listeners. We're so glad to be back with you and thank you for being here and showing up again. If you're a repeat and to anybody new, We hope that you resonate with us and are able to take away just one tidbit each time. And just as a reminder for anybody that is new, the whole heart behind this podcast is to learn and grow beside you and that we hope you just feel uplifted and better about yourself more after you listen to this than you did before.
00:39:09
Speaker
And a reminder to give yourself grace. And others too. Yes. Amen. I love it. And I have something new that I'm launching with mindset with Megan. It's going to be a free option. And so I'm really excited if you're interested in joining more of a, it'll be a Bible study focused. It'll be Holy spirit led. So it's not going to be, so my normal coaching is every week I have an actual lesson that I've developed and go over with you. And then we walk through that and then we talk through it, create homework. But this group will be more week by week for people to come in and have accountability with going to God first, but also looking at the Bible and asking yourself, like, what does the Bible say about this? What is truth over my current situation and thoughts?
00:39:57
Speaker
And how can we encourage each other to continue to go to God first and all things. And then I will do some, a little bit of my mindset coaching in there, but yeah, it's going to be a free group on zoom.
00:40:09
Speaker
And if you're interested, you can just, DM me at mindset with Megan or on our podcast, Instagram at girl. I slept in my makeup and I can get you the zoom link for that. We're going to start it in September. So keep your eyes open for that. It's going to be called the spirit led circle.
00:40:24
Speaker
i hope my sisters will join sometimes too. Yeah, that's awesome. Way to go. Love y'all. i can pray. Sounds good. Okay. Father God, thank you so much for my sisters and thank you for all of our listeners. I'm so honored and grateful that we get to do this together. And we pray that we honor you through all of our days, that, that our life is magnificent display of your goodness.
00:40:49
Speaker
And I pray that as we seek you in our secret place, that we experience your peace and know that we can experience it day to day. And that we bring every thought that we have, that's a lie. And we replace it with the the truth from you.
00:41:04
Speaker
And I pray that every person listening knows that no matter where they are on their journey in life, that they're loved and they're seen and they're not alone with you, God. And I pray that they just take one step towards you.
00:41:17
Speaker
We love you in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Amen. Thanks y'all. Have a great week. Okay. Y'all too. Love you. a Bye. Bye. Thank you for listening to another week of girl. I slept in my makeup.
