Introduction and Current Events

00:00:32
Speaker
What's up, everyone?
00:00:33
Speaker
Welcome back to another episode of Gather Them Podcast.
00:00:36
Speaker
I'm your host, Jerome, and we're back for another week.
00:00:40
Speaker
I guess happy 4th of July, even though we don't really want to do 4th of July, especially in this economy.
00:00:47
Speaker
Like, this is a weird time to want to do or want to have like 4th of July or whatever, because America is falling apart off the hinges.
00:00:58
Speaker
Like, it's a bad joint.
00:01:00
Speaker
So needless to say, I'm
00:01:04
Speaker
I'm still glad we get off, you know, shout out to that.
00:01:07
Speaker
And also, you know, shout out to, you know, the gays, because, you know, last month was Pride and, you know, no one gives a fuck about us now.
00:01:19
Speaker
So there's that.
00:01:22
Speaker
Yeah, we're here.
00:01:23
Speaker
We're here.
00:01:26
Speaker
There's so much I feel like that's been happening, especially with the end of the month.

Gym Life and Diversity

00:01:30
Speaker
So I've still been...
00:01:32
Speaker
Pretty consistent with going to the gym and that whole thing.
00:01:38
Speaker
Oh, my God, I had to go this past week to see my trainer back to back days and my muscles were on fire.
00:01:44
Speaker
Also, don't mind me because I am also doing my nails while I am talking because I did not get to do them before.
00:01:53
Speaker
So I'm going to try to minimize the noise.
00:01:57
Speaker
But I saw my trainer Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
00:02:02
Speaker
Oh, my God.
00:02:03
Speaker
I never want to go back on a Wednesday again because there was a guy who was just so annoying.
00:02:10
Speaker
Like I and then had the nerve to ask me what my name was and then forget my name.
00:02:16
Speaker
But you know what?
00:02:17
Speaker
I'll talk about it later on.
00:02:18
Speaker
And the final thought, because this week's final thought is going to be a grind my gears because I just need to get some stuff off my chest.
00:02:27
Speaker
Um, but yeah, um, so I went to see my trainer body felt like it was falling apart off the bone.
00:02:35
Speaker
Um, he worked us out this week.
00:02:37
Speaker
Like I, I feel like he really, he's upped it for me.
00:02:41
Speaker
Um, and I'm starting to endure a little bit better, um, and get a little, I'm starting to get stronger and I love it.
00:02:47
Speaker
Like I'm kind of obsessed with it right now.
00:02:51
Speaker
Um, I'm not like hyper-focused on exercise or anything, but I am in like a really good flow right now where I am,
00:02:57
Speaker
going to the gym consistently.
00:03:00
Speaker
I'm waking up early.
00:03:01
Speaker
I'm, um, putting in the work while I'm there.
00:03:05
Speaker
Um, I think having a trainer helps you be accountable as well.
00:03:08
Speaker
Um, and I like my trainer.
00:03:09
Speaker
He's like really cool.
00:03:11
Speaker
Um, he, uh, is really knowledgeable too.
00:03:16
Speaker
And, um, he's just, he's great.
00:03:19
Speaker
Um, so shout out to him, like shout out to the, to him, shout out to my gym.
00:03:24
Speaker
I'm not going to give them any free promo cause they're getting so much fucking money from me.
00:03:30
Speaker
Um, but they're a great gym.
00:03:32
Speaker
I love it.
00:03:33
Speaker
Um, and I love that, um,
00:03:35
Speaker
I've been seeing more people that kind of look like me as I go.
00:03:39
Speaker
Cause at first that was like the thing I wasn't seeing like any bigger bodies that were there.
00:03:44
Speaker
It was a lot of like fit people, um, you know, that were going to the gym.
00:03:49
Speaker
So that was just one of the things where I was just like, okay, like I see people that are here, like dedicated, determined, like they don't, they're like not on their phones, like all the time, the same way they are at on planet fitness, um,
00:04:05
Speaker
um planet fitness they're fucking like the thing about planet fitness is that i remember when they were like saying oh we have classes and this and the other and they don't have classes like at all um and they also don't have um the machinery isn't like
00:04:26
Speaker
Like there's not that much space.
00:04:27
Speaker
Oftentimes there's the machines are always broken.
00:04:30
Speaker
Like at least here, like at my gym, you can scan a QR code and you are able to like let them know if they're out of time.
00:04:38
Speaker
Like they give you towels.
00:04:40
Speaker
to wipe off with.
00:04:44
Speaker
They have towels in the bathroom.
00:04:47
Speaker
There's a sauna.
00:04:48
Speaker
There's a steam room.
00:04:50
Speaker
It's like a real ass gym.
00:04:52
Speaker
And I'm just so glad to have that.
00:04:56
Speaker
And I feel like because I'm in this space now where I'm a lot less shy,
00:05:02
Speaker
I'm starting to be more like into doing the different things.
00:05:06
Speaker
Like I was in the recovery room and the, what was it like the red light room or something.
00:05:12
Speaker
And it was just like one of those things where I was like,
00:05:16
Speaker
oh, wow, like this is actually pretty rejuvenating for me.
00:05:22
Speaker
Um, and I was thinking about, I might do it again on Saturday.
00:05:25
Speaker
Um, cause I did it like the Saturday before last, but I've been taking like a spin class on Saturdays, um, which has been really nice, um, and giving me like something to do on Saturdays that is, um, like consistent and routine.
00:05:42
Speaker
Yeah, so that's been great.
00:05:44
Speaker
I mean, work's been great, too.
00:05:45
Speaker
I don't know why I said it like that.
00:05:48
Speaker
Work's been great, too.
00:05:50
Speaker
I think that the thing about work is that, like, it's just really busy and there's a lot of tedious work and a lot of emails and that can be exhausting.
00:06:01
Speaker
I mean, I'm getting I'm starting to get in therapy, getting clients that like are actual good fits for me.
00:06:08
Speaker
And I'm like really ecstatic about that.
00:06:11
Speaker
Because it's been one of those things where I've just been like seeing a lot of people that I'm just like, I can't, I don't know how to really help you or I don't really know how to, you know,
00:06:26
Speaker
like cope or help you cope because of how I can see your, what your issues are.
00:06:32
Speaker
Your issues are that you don't have enough money, um, which is most people's issue.
00:06:37
Speaker
And I feel like a lot of people wouldn't be as depressed as they were if they were in a better financial space or even have better insurance.
00:06:44
Speaker
Cause people like have like different things that they have to deal with medically that is like impairing their ability to function.
00:06:52
Speaker
And, um,
00:06:53
Speaker
I don't know, for whatever reason, like, our government just doesn't really give a fuck about that.
00:06:58
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:07:00
Speaker
But other than that, things have been good.
00:07:03
Speaker
I've been pretty, like, slowing down a lot.
00:07:07
Speaker
I want to talk about something else I've been just working on.

Productivity Techniques: The Pomodoro

00:07:11
Speaker
And this will be in our, let's see.
00:07:16
Speaker
It'll be, like, instead of, like, doing topics this week, we'll just kind of talk about...
00:07:22
Speaker
Something I've been learning about and, you know, that something is the Pomodoro effect, which I did not really I knew what it was because I've heard it before and people use it for ADHD and to not just for ADHD, but like also to get like focus better and.
00:07:43
Speaker
to lock in when you are like struggling to complete a task, um, or, you know, for low motivation, like there's just so many different things, um, that it can be used for.
00:07:53
Speaker
And for me, you know, someone I didn't realize, first of all, I didn't realize I had ADHD until like up until recently, like I really struggle, I think with
00:08:09
Speaker
motivation.
00:08:11
Speaker
I get hyper-focused.
00:08:12
Speaker
I get really into details when I care about something or when it's something that is, when it starts to pique my interest.
00:08:20
Speaker
And I think for me, it becomes a
00:08:26
Speaker
Or I can just be completely like procrastinating, distracted, like I don't care, you know, as much or I'll do it later.
00:08:34
Speaker
And then later never comes or it's like a last minute thing.
00:08:39
Speaker
And I think that for me is starting to become a. It was starting to become a problem for me.
00:08:48
Speaker
And when I say like a problem, I mean, like.
00:08:52
Speaker
a problem because I, there's things that I've just been like, I'll put off doing like chores around the house.
00:09:00
Speaker
I'll put off doing things for like the podcast where I put off doing things even for work.
00:09:06
Speaker
You know, um, I make, I started making lists, which has been really good for me just to keep me on track.
00:09:13
Speaker
And it's a weird feeling when I complete my list.
00:09:16
Speaker
Um, and I'm just like,
00:09:18
Speaker
oh, well, that's it.
00:09:19
Speaker
Like that there's nothing else.
00:09:22
Speaker
That is so fucking weird.
00:09:23
Speaker
I'm not going to lie, because I usually feel pressure to always be doing something.
00:09:29
Speaker
So when everything is done, it's like.
00:09:33
Speaker
What do I do now?
00:09:34
Speaker
I'm like, I guess I relax.
00:09:36
Speaker
And it's nice to have that feeling for once of not feeling pressured or having to keep doing things like
00:09:45
Speaker
You know, some of the things with ADHD, like I'm not going to really maybe talk about ADHD later.
00:09:50
Speaker
I want to do more research and reading about it, like in terms of like research and like facts and stuff.
00:10:00
Speaker
But some of the things about like ADHD are that you can have difficulty switching between, you know, different focuses, like what you need to focus on.
00:10:14
Speaker
social interactions are weird.
00:10:16
Speaker
Um, you know, easily bored.
00:10:18
Speaker
Like, that's why I always say, like, for me, I am easily bored by small talk, but I'm learning that it is essential in building relationships.
00:10:29
Speaker
And so that's one thing that I've been learning how to do is to, um, do some small talk, uh,
00:10:39
Speaker
And at least like build that skill up so that, you know, you can get into those deep conversations.
00:10:44
Speaker
I think that's the thing about me.
00:10:45
Speaker
Like, I'm just someone and not to get distracted, but like, I think for me, I'm someone that is like, I have specific interests and I feel passionately about the things I feel passionately about.
00:10:57
Speaker
But it's also like there's a balance of learning about other people and
00:11:06
Speaker
I hate to say it, but being vulnerable about, you know, like life or yourself or in a like conversational relationship, it is very hard to be vulnerable.
00:11:19
Speaker
So for me, I it.
00:11:23
Speaker
very interest-driven, very divergent in terms

Fitness Challenges and Goals

00:11:28
Speaker
of creative thinking, craving novelty, wanting something to feel new.
00:11:34
Speaker
I hate repetitive tasks.
00:11:37
Speaker
And that's why I think I'm sticking with the gym, because having a trainer is like...
00:11:43
Speaker
we're always doing something different.
00:11:44
Speaker
Like there's never really like, there's days where we're doing the same types of exercises, but we're also like increasing the strength.
00:11:53
Speaker
And I like that.
00:11:54
Speaker
Like that is making me feel motivated to go because I feel challenged like every time I go.
00:12:01
Speaker
And then I feel like afterwards, I feel that
00:12:06
Speaker
Like, I don't know.
00:12:08
Speaker
It's almost like that, like, you feel good.
00:12:10
Speaker
Like, you know, they tell you you should work out and you should, you know, work out to, you know, treat depression, blah, blah, blah.
00:12:17
Speaker
But when I go to the gym by myself, I don't really feel.
00:12:22
Speaker
I guess I don't really feel like I'm in the zone, but I don't challenge myself in the same way.
00:12:28
Speaker
And I think having a trainer challenges you and it also makes you step out of your comfort zone just in terms of.
00:12:36
Speaker
I don't know, just like trying different things because I'm using like kettlebells and, you know, the workout bench and free weights.
00:12:46
Speaker
And my trainer's trying to help me do a pull up because I was like, he gave me like this thing of like goals or, you know, we talked about goals that I wanted to set.
00:12:55
Speaker
And one of them was to do a pull up.
00:13:00
Speaker
One, I forget what my other goals were.
00:13:02
Speaker
I know, but that was like the main one to do a pull up.
00:13:05
Speaker
Um,
00:13:09
Speaker
Yeah, I don't know what else it was.
00:13:10
Speaker
I know I said being a little bit more muscular as well.
00:13:15
Speaker
So he's increasing the muscles.
00:13:17
Speaker
Listen.
00:13:17
Speaker
That's why I'm saying he was trying to definitely dead me this week because he increased the weight from...
00:13:29
Speaker
think I started at 18 doing one side um that was like walk the kettlebell like walking um exercise um and I was doing one which was pretty easy because I didn't have um the other side weighing me down and then he gave me both I think 24s on Wednesday and I was like boy I
00:13:54
Speaker
I wanted to put them bitches down so bad.
00:13:56
Speaker
Like, my arms were on fire.
00:14:00
Speaker
But I like that because it's, like, something I would never have done on my own.
00:14:06
Speaker
Because I, I mean, I would have maybe seen someone do it, but I wouldn't have been, like, I think I should do it, you know?
00:14:13
Speaker
Yeah.
00:14:16
Speaker
Yeah, so one of the things that I've been researching was the Pomodoro effect, which I honestly even forget how I got on the subject of that when I initially started doing some research.
00:14:31
Speaker
It must have been like a TikTok algorithm or Instagram or something.
00:14:37
Speaker
Or like YouTube, because I watch a lot of YouTube videos.
00:14:40
Speaker
And then it was just like...
00:14:42
Speaker
this light bulb went off because again, I've heard of the technique and I've, you know, thought about using it, but I just never really tried it.
00:14:51
Speaker
And it's amazing.
00:14:53
Speaker
Like I've been able to get so much stuff done.
00:14:57
Speaker
I did it on, I think to start, I did it on a Sunday when I was like cleaning the house.
00:15:04
Speaker
And so what it is, is
00:15:06
Speaker
you know, it's based off of a kitchen timer.
00:15:10
Speaker
Like that's essentially, you know, what the idea is, is that like you set the timer for, you know, a certain amount of time and then you focus, you hyper focus on that one thing and then you get a break later on after the timer goes up, a short break and then you go back into what you're doing because the idea is that your brain can only,
00:15:36
Speaker
process so much learning before it starts to get bored.
00:15:42
Speaker
And the idea is that you keep going on, off, on, off, and then eventually you might be so hyper-focused or you might be so into it at that point that you don't need the timer and you can just focus on the thing until it's done or until when you say it's done.
00:16:01
Speaker
And so I'm like, OK, let me try this.
00:16:04
Speaker
I do need to perfect it a little bit better just in terms of because when you're on break, you're supposed to get up, walk around, stretch, do something different.
00:16:14
Speaker
Like you shouldn't necessarily stay in the same spot.
00:16:16
Speaker
But I find that it is has been effective.
00:16:21
Speaker
Like I, you know, like I said, I was doing chores Sunday, got everything done that I could get done without.
00:16:29
Speaker
burning myself out because I still had to do, um, you know, grooming and self-care and blah, blah, blah, all that stuff.
00:16:36
Speaker
But, um, it was still like a really good, um, Sunday for me because I like was able to do that and get my self-care ritual done, which is, um,
00:16:50
Speaker
going well.
00:16:50
Speaker
Like I've been keeping up with doing, um, a self-care ritual, um, pretty much for the past couple of weeks of, you know, either baths or, um, like meditating, doing like stretching because of my like muscles being sore.
00:17:13
Speaker
Um, what else have I been doing?
00:17:15
Speaker
Stretching, meditation,
00:17:19
Speaker
like winding down before bed, like lighting a candle, being intentional, all that stuff, which is how I am navigating and just moving about to just do all of this stuff that's restorative because I've never really been in a space where I've, how can I say this?
00:17:45
Speaker
Like I've never been in a space where I've
00:17:49
Speaker
really cared for my body as much as I'm doing now.
00:17:53
Speaker
And that's one of the things that I realized that I need to do better at, especially since I'm getting older.
00:18:00
Speaker
And, you know, I think being vegan is one of the things that is helping me because, you know, lab work's coming back great.
00:18:07
Speaker
And, you know, I'm going to the gym, losing weight, blah, blah, blah.
00:18:11
Speaker
But I'm also like, I need to
00:18:12
Speaker
continue to take care of my skin and I need to continue to take care of my nails.
00:18:17
Speaker
And I don't know what it is about this summer, but I'm getting crazy heat rashes.
00:18:22
Speaker
Like I don't, it's so bad.
00:18:24
Speaker
And I think it's honestly the humidity that's like,
00:18:29
Speaker
making it so much worse because I keep sweating.
00:18:32
Speaker
And I hate heat rashes like they.
00:18:35
Speaker
Oh, my God.
00:18:36
Speaker
And I have eczema like, you know, on and off.
00:18:39
Speaker
It doesn't stick around too much, but I just hate when I'm like itchy and it's like dry skin or a rash or something.
00:18:51
Speaker
So I'm just like, I need to start taking better care of myself.
00:18:53
Speaker
And so even with that, like I'm putting myself on a schedule and trying to use like this technique to help myself function throughout my day.
00:19:08
Speaker
And it's been, like I said, it's been working.
00:19:10
Speaker
The idea is that, like I said, it should be like set to whatever you want it to be, you know, 25 minutes of hard, you know, working focus, and then like five minutes of a short break, you know.
00:19:26
Speaker
You can keep, like I said, continue the session without stopping.
00:19:31
Speaker
And I think that that's great because it is tailored to you.
00:19:34
Speaker
So if you wanted to do a 25-5, you could.
00:19:36
Speaker
There's also, I think, a 30-5.
00:19:45
Speaker
what is it like?
00:19:45
Speaker
No, it was a 50-10.
00:19:47
Speaker
So like 50 minutes of working and then 10 minutes.
00:19:53
Speaker
And then you would just kind of, if you did like a 30 and, I don't know, 30 minutes, one.
00:20:05
Speaker
There's just different ways you can break it up.
00:20:06
Speaker
I think for me right now, because of how
00:20:11
Speaker
interesting my how many things I have to do.
00:20:15
Speaker
I feel like a 25-5 feels good for me because I
00:20:19
Speaker
Either I'm going to be too hyper-focused or I'm not going to be focused enough.
00:20:24
Speaker
And if I am too hyper-focused, the time goes by like that.
00:20:28
Speaker
And then when you are, like, say if you're not as hyper-focused, it just forces you to keep doing the thing.
00:20:38
Speaker
And then eventually you get the motivation to do it.
00:20:41
Speaker
And it's also like another technique I learned.
00:20:43
Speaker
And I think this other one I learned from TikTok was,
00:20:47
Speaker
doing the thing where you start, like, just use, even if you know you don't want to do something, you just do it.
00:20:55
Speaker
And you say, I'm just going to do it for two minutes.
00:20:58
Speaker
And by that point, you're already going to be in the motion and in the groove of trying to get done all of the things you need to get done.
00:21:10
Speaker
And I think that that is, it's like tricking your mind to work.
00:21:15
Speaker
And I also attribute that to the book I'm reading, of course, which I talk about literally every episode.
00:21:21
Speaker
And I have to finish that book like this weekend or something because I there's so many books that I really need to read for like private practice and just brushing up on like therapy and psychology and all that stuff.
00:21:36
Speaker
But I feel very much like.
00:21:42
Speaker
I.
00:21:45
Speaker
I'm in a groove and I'm trying to become a master of time because I feel like once you master time, you can pretty much do anything like that's the that's amazing.
00:21:57
Speaker
You know, once you have good mastery of time management, you can do anything.
00:22:03
Speaker
And I think, you know, also trying to make sure I get enough sleep at night has been a priority and just trying to be debt free.
00:22:15
Speaker
And the only way I can do that is, like, if I am actively doing things, like, continuing to go to the gym and continuing to take care of my body and also, you know, just also just...
00:22:33
Speaker
taking care of my like mental and like spiritual and stuff so yeah shout out to shout out to i think his name was francisco or francesco cigarillo who was like an entire he's a is was an italian uh
00:22:55
Speaker
he was a student at the time in the eighties.
00:22:58
Speaker
Um, and he created this technique based off of, he was studying for like an exam or something.
00:23:04
Speaker
And he ended up, um, he ended up, um, hold on.
00:23:14
Speaker
I'm just trying to see if he's still alive.
00:23:16
Speaker
He just ended up using it as a way to help him like focus, um,
00:23:23
Speaker
During school and getting things on.
00:23:24
Speaker
And that's the other thing.
00:23:25
Speaker
Like, it is basically, he called it the Pomodoro technique after the Italian word for tomato, which is based on that kitchen table timer, you know, thing.
00:23:41
Speaker
And so, yeah, it's like really cool.
00:23:44
Speaker
I just think it's like really, really cool.
00:23:46
Speaker
Shout out to him because the only way I'm getting things done.
00:23:52
Speaker
They also talk about other things like body doubling.
00:23:57
Speaker
To help you get things done.
00:23:59
Speaker
Well, there's a thing called life hacking.
00:24:04
Speaker
I'll talk about that maybe a different time.
00:24:06
Speaker
I need to learn more about what that means.
00:24:09
Speaker
But the idea is that like any trick, shortcut skills, novelty methods that will increase productivity and efficacy in all walks of life.
00:24:21
Speaker
Interesting.
00:24:24
Speaker
OK, well, we'll do some more digging.
00:24:29
Speaker
We'll jump into the media lab.
00:24:31
Speaker
I'm thinking to maybe rename it and call it something else, especially as I start to rebrand a little bit and think about things differently or how I'm going to do the podcast a little differently.

Queer Themes in Chucky

00:24:46
Speaker
So this month for July, I really wanted to talk about horror and queer horror specifically, but
00:24:56
Speaker
There's not that much of it.
00:24:57
Speaker
Like, that's the thing.
00:24:58
Speaker
There's not that much queer horror in the world.
00:25:01
Speaker
And...
00:25:06
Speaker
That sucks.
00:25:06
Speaker
We got to change that.
00:25:07
Speaker
So I'm looking forward to talking about today, Chucky, particularly and specifically season four of Chucky, which was, oh my God, so good.
00:25:23
Speaker
It is one of those shows where...
00:25:27
Speaker
I feel like I end up binging it.
00:25:29
Speaker
And that's why I can't watch it when it's one, because I'm like, I have to know what happens.
00:25:34
Speaker
And then the way the ending happened, oh my God, like the fact that Jake, Devin and Lexi are now dolls trapped in Wendell.
00:25:46
Speaker
I think his name was Wendell.
00:25:47
Speaker
It was John Waters, his character.
00:25:50
Speaker
They're trapped in his house.
00:25:52
Speaker
And then Nika showed up and then Nika's like,
00:25:56
Speaker
I admire Nika.
00:25:57
Speaker
Like, she's one of my favorite characters, I think.
00:26:00
Speaker
If I have to think of, like, horror characters, because...
00:26:05
Speaker
she endures so much.
00:26:07
Speaker
Like, the fact that her arms, like, I think I talked about this before, but, like, her arms and legs were cut off by Tiffany.
00:26:15
Speaker
That is fucking insane.
00:26:18
Speaker
Like, the fact that she was already a paraplegic, like, she already was, you know, not able to walk.
00:26:26
Speaker
And the fact that, like, her arms and legs both got cut off, and now she has kind of, like, robot arms, which I think is pretty cool.
00:26:35
Speaker
Um, but it just is like, she's gone through so much.
00:26:40
Speaker
She's like such a strong, um, female character.
00:26:45
Speaker
And I like really admire her.
00:26:47
Speaker
I think like all of the characters really are when I, and I think that's what makes the show so good is the fact that there are really strong leads in this, um, show.
00:26:56
Speaker
Like the fact that Jennifer Tilly is, um,
00:27:01
Speaker
65.
00:27:01
Speaker
Like, I didn't even know she was 65.
00:27:04
Speaker
And she's, like, out here, still in the stilettos, like, you know, boobs pushed up to the sky, like, all of that.
00:27:15
Speaker
Like, she is just queen.
00:27:17
Speaker
Amazing.
00:27:19
Speaker
Um...
00:27:20
Speaker
I thought we would see more of Glenn, of Gigi, Glenda, Glenn, that's Chucky and Tiffany's child.
00:27:33
Speaker
I thought we would see more of them, but then like they weren't in this.
00:27:38
Speaker
They weren't, they were mentioned a lot, but they weren't in the series.
00:27:41
Speaker
And I thought that that was interesting because I don't know what was going on, but yeah.
00:27:45
Speaker
I like that it talked about like a lot of these big topics of like aging and death.
00:27:51
Speaker
And it touched on like some of the spiritual realm and this idea of like forgiveness and of like your, you know, of people, you know, forgiving people and also trying to give people like a shot or like the benefit of the doubt.
00:28:11
Speaker
I think it was a very interesting plot to have them basically get into the White House.
00:28:18
Speaker
Like, that was iconic.
00:28:22
Speaker
And I also loved that, even though you can tell it's very CGI, like, I loved the way the CGI looked as well.
00:28:29
Speaker
Like, it looked fake, but it also, it felt camp, you know?
00:28:35
Speaker
It felt like this is what you do when you are...
00:28:41
Speaker
making a show about like the white house or something.
00:28:44
Speaker
And it's a horror fantasy kind of show.
00:28:48
Speaker
So, uh, I really did, um, enjoy that.
00:28:54
Speaker
I didn't, I just like, I'm so curious as to what's going on with, I don't know if this is ever, if this is just kind of like a running gag or like what it is, but the fact that, um,
00:29:09
Speaker
Oh, my God.
00:29:10
Speaker
Donna.
00:29:10
Speaker
What's his name?
00:29:12
Speaker
Sua?
00:29:15
Speaker
Devin Sua?
00:29:16
Speaker
I think that's his name.
00:29:18
Speaker
He was in Final Destination.
00:29:22
Speaker
But he plays or played Jake's dad.
00:29:26
Speaker
He played who else?
00:29:29
Speaker
He played the priest.
00:29:33
Speaker
or the father at the church that Jake and...
00:29:38
Speaker
Lexi and Devin were at and then he played the president and then he played the president's body double and I think that that is so crazy and I also didn't know this or remember this but like he also was in Eminem's music video for Stan which I thought was kind of like I mean you know fuck Eminem but like that song is very good um
00:30:07
Speaker
What else?
00:30:08
Speaker
What else about him?
00:30:10
Speaker
But yeah, so with that, with, with, I'm just thinking just in terms of that with, you know, him playing this character or playing multiple characters in the show, it feels, and then the topic of voodoo has been coming up.
00:30:27
Speaker
I'm like,
00:30:29
Speaker
is there something voodoo related going on here with this character?
00:30:33
Speaker
Um, and what, and like, what is it about him that keeps him coming back?
00:30:41
Speaker
It could just very well be the fact that, I mean, it could just be the fact that he is, um, uh, Dan Mancini, um, the writer and creator of Chucky, um, and Child's play, like, oh my God.
00:30:58
Speaker
Um, he, um,
00:31:02
Speaker
I guess he may be doing like taking a page out of like Ryan Murphy or other like creatives books of reusing the same actor for different roles and just not really explaining it.
00:31:16
Speaker
Or it just happens.
00:31:17
Speaker
Like it just exists in this world.
00:31:19
Speaker
But I think that is really significant or there's some there has to be.
00:31:24
Speaker
Or maybe I just want there to be some significance with him and this idea of almost like resurrecting in a new identity or a new body the same way that Chucky and Tiffany have been doing throughout all of the movies and the show, you know?
00:31:45
Speaker
um so i think that that is a very interesting and i also think it's interesting that no one else is like noticing that like no one else is saying like you look familiar or you look like you know devin's dead or whatever like no one's really saying that it's just kind of a thing um that's happening so i think that that is like really interesting and i also find it interesting that they um decided to really amp up the voodoo um parts of chucky because
00:32:14
Speaker
He was always doing voodoo, but I think that in the movies, it always felt like a means to an end.
00:32:26
Speaker
Whereas now, it kind of feels a little bit more like a religion or like a thing that he does.
00:32:34
Speaker
He's like, oh, I've praised...
00:32:37
Speaker
for so many years and I've killed for him and I've done all of this and that and he like basically almost destroyed the world in this season but it's always been
00:32:52
Speaker
that last minute where he gets stopped or like right before him and Tiffany, um, die, they are always, they always find a way.
00:33:04
Speaker
They always seem to figure it out.
00:33:06
Speaker
Um, and Tiffany also met her, you know, match this season with, uh, the fact that like she was being held accountable for the deaths of, um, um,
00:33:19
Speaker
I forget what it was.
00:33:20
Speaker
It was like for like killing all of these people.
00:33:22
Speaker
And, you know, the fact that she cut off Nika's arms and legs, like I still like in my brain, like that is just wild.
00:33:31
Speaker
The fact that she really was just like,
00:33:37
Speaker
You're not going nowhere.
00:33:38
Speaker
But like, I love you.
00:33:39
Speaker
That is so wild.
00:33:41
Speaker
I can't even.
00:33:44
Speaker
I'm also really fascinated by the gay parts of it, of course.
00:33:50
Speaker
This is like the first show where I'm like, OK, like we have.
00:33:56
Speaker
A black gay lead character that I can think of in a horror movie.
00:34:05
Speaker
situation where it's not like scary movie two or, you know, something like that.
00:34:11
Speaker
But, um, he's like an actual, like lead character that is, um,
00:34:21
Speaker
Black and queer.
00:34:22
Speaker
And I'm like, oh, wow.
00:34:23
Speaker
Like, OK.
00:34:24
Speaker
And I mean, you know, not too much because they're kids or whatever.
00:34:28
Speaker
But I think that it is just really interesting how the acting in this season, even with like kind of Jake and his character with him pretending to be Chucky or not pretending, but like, you know, Zachary Offit.
00:34:46
Speaker
Arthur, I think his name is.
00:34:49
Speaker
Yeah, Zachary Arthur pretending to be Chucky for a little bit, which is really interesting to watch.
00:34:57
Speaker
And just to see how he shifted his demeanor towards the different characters and great acting.
00:35:10
Speaker
And I think he's only 17, which is
00:35:13
Speaker
amazing like i love and then oh my god caroline was like acting her ass off too like she was so shy and quiet or you know spazzy a little bit in the first season but now she's like really becoming into like herself and that's what i love about a good tv show i love character progression i love when there is the plot is just very much i don't know what's the word for it i love when the plot is very much
00:35:43
Speaker
You can tell that they are experimenting and doing things with Chucky that they've never really done before.
00:35:50
Speaker
Because the thing about Chucky is that, like, I never really knew that Don Mancini was a... I didn't know he was, you know, part of the community of, you know, the Liga Bigga Tiga.
00:36:05
Speaker
But I...
00:36:08
Speaker
When I found that out, I was like, oh, wow, that's, like, really cool.
00:36:11
Speaker
And then the fact that he initially, like, even with, like, Andy, I'm like, there's something.
00:36:17
Speaker
Or I'm like, all right, Andy, a little queer, maybe.
00:36:21
Speaker
But even when he was a kid, like, I was just thinking in my head, like, huh, this is, like, really, like, interesting to watch.
00:36:31
Speaker
And...
00:36:33
Speaker
I think the progression of when Chucky... Like, Bride of Chucky, I think, was one of the things that really propelled it into... And this is why I say I think because I remember it being, like, such a big deal when it came out.
00:36:50
Speaker
And it's, like, one of my favorite movies of the series.
00:36:54
Speaker
But it introduced, you know, Tiffany, and it started to expand the story more.
00:37:00
Speaker
And it was more about...
00:37:03
Speaker
then Andy and Chucky, it started to expand to become this universe.
00:37:08
Speaker
And they have their baby and, you know, their baby ends up being non-binary and you start to see the queerness come out.
00:37:20
Speaker
And then I feel like it's at a point where it's, he's like such a pivotal character and like people love Chucky that
00:37:32
Speaker
He's given like, you know, Don was given a show or given this, you know, slot or whatever to do the show and really drummed up like the queer aspects of it, which honestly would not have flew in the 80s, 90s.
00:37:49
Speaker
especially the 80s, because I think that's when Child's Play first came out.
00:37:54
Speaker
It feels very much like a journey.
00:37:58
Speaker
When you look at the movies and you watch the show, and you even see how Chucky has pretty much stayed the same, but there are elements to him that we get to see that we've not gotten to see before, like the way in which he became a killer, or how he became fascinated with killing,
00:38:17
Speaker
And how he just kind of like had navigated up until this point, because when we first met Charles Lee Ray, he was escaping or trying to escape the police.
00:38:32
Speaker
did a voodoo spell, which was just kind of like, okay, like, how do you know that?
00:38:36
Speaker
Like, whatever.
00:38:37
Speaker
And then you find out later on that now it's way deeper than what we thought it was, which is that he actually does believe in Damballa and voodoo and the gift of, um, transference or resurrection.
00:38:56
Speaker
Um, and it's,
00:38:57
Speaker
And Tiffany also does too because she was able to bring Chucky back to life and Bride of Chucky.
00:39:04
Speaker
So I think that that is so cool.
00:39:07
Speaker
And it makes me kind of wonder or want to kind of look into a little bit the overlap between queerness and voodoo and what that could mean or what that could look like.
00:39:20
Speaker
Even though it could mean nothing, but I just am a little interested in it.
00:39:25
Speaker
Now, after watching the show and then seeing how these characters have experienced...
00:39:38
Speaker
Like, you know, life, death, you know, having trauma, like, you know, their parents were killed.
00:39:45
Speaker
Their teacher died, which was, oh my God, I was horrified at the fact that their teacher died, who was like their new caretaker.
00:39:53
Speaker
So now it's like they're back on their own.
00:39:56
Speaker
Or at least I didn't expect her to die so soon because she died in like episode three, which was a pretty significant death because at that point we were still kind of confused.
00:40:08
Speaker
As to what even was happening.
00:40:10
Speaker
I think it was episode three.
00:40:11
Speaker
To what even was happening with Chucky.
00:40:13
Speaker
Like we don't even know like what.
00:40:16
Speaker
I think when at first.
00:40:17
Speaker
The show first started.
00:40:18
Speaker
It was like a mystery of like.
00:40:19
Speaker
Why is he in the White House?
00:40:21
Speaker
How did this happen?
00:40:22
Speaker
And then you start to see the back story.
00:40:24
Speaker
Of how.
00:40:26
Speaker
Things left off.
00:40:28
Speaker
After the last.
00:40:30
Speaker
After season two.
00:40:31
Speaker
Which was also a really good season.
00:40:33
Speaker
Oh my goodness.
00:40:35
Speaker
I feel like it really upped the ante.
00:40:38
Speaker
and really, um, started to show that character development because I remember initially like Lexi hated, um, Devin and, and, uh,
00:40:52
Speaker
Oh my God.
00:40:53
Speaker
Why am I blinking?
00:40:54
Speaker
Devin and Jake.
00:40:56
Speaker
But initially, like, she kind of hated them.
00:40:59
Speaker
She was like this popular girl.
00:41:00
Speaker
And now she's opening up and becoming this, like, force to be reckoned with on the show.
00:41:11
Speaker
Her trying to find her sister because, you know, she knows her sister is a she's vulnerable.
00:41:18
Speaker
She's she's known her sister as like one way.
00:41:22
Speaker
And it's been that like kind of spazzy way.
00:41:25
Speaker
And as Caroline is now growing and starting to become a, you know, a young lady, it is very much she's starting to take on this like
00:41:37
Speaker
maternal role a little bit.
00:41:39
Speaker
It's very interesting to watch of how she really is trying to go to bed for her sister.
00:41:46
Speaker
Her sister was just like, girl, fuck you.
00:41:49
Speaker
And fuck that.
00:41:51
Speaker
And fuck your life.
00:41:54
Speaker
It is...
00:41:56
Speaker
And I'm also, I think, curious then about that, because the thing is that Chucky had been trying to convert a child for so long into the whole killing business because he was trying to create like a protege and he wanted it to be his child.
00:42:16
Speaker
But they also aren't like they're not like they're not like their parents at all.
00:42:24
Speaker
They don't have the same like murderous tendency in the same way that their parents do.
00:42:31
Speaker
And I think that that is just like interesting that Chucky thought that he was going to be able to create a.
00:42:40
Speaker
Which would make sense in theory, like that your offspring would carry that same murderous intent.
00:42:45
Speaker
But we don't even know because we don't even know where they were this whole season because they never made an appearance.
00:42:52
Speaker
So, yeah.
00:42:55
Speaker
And Tiffany Valentine, that woman, she going to find a way.
00:43:02
Speaker
If anybody was going to find a way, it's going to be her.
00:43:05
Speaker
She going to find a way.
00:43:07
Speaker
I thought it was like really interesting that she was able to pull the using voodoo in jail thing.
00:43:13
Speaker
And oh, my God, the Martha Stewart like character was a trip.
00:43:20
Speaker
But as soon as she found out that Tiffany murdered her sister, even though she wasn't really her sister, she was like, fuck you, bitch.
00:43:31
Speaker
And I thought that that was like iconic that she then was able to get.
00:43:36
Speaker
She was then able to get the voodoo, the voodoo for dummies, which I had never really looked at the cover.
00:43:43
Speaker
And it's so funny because I was like,
00:43:46
Speaker
how would this book even exist if it really, if the spells really work?
00:43:49
Speaker
But I think it is about intention.
00:43:52
Speaker
And it says, it's funny enough, it says Don Mancini on it in the front, when you really like take a look at it up close.
00:43:59
Speaker
So I thought that that was like kind of funny to really bring this like element of magic into a
00:44:12
Speaker
story and then open it up even more to create a narrative around spirituality and what that looks like for Chucky and for Tiffany um
00:44:27
Speaker
So shout out to Don, because I really do think we are going to get a season four.
00:44:30
Speaker
And if we don't get a season four, I feel like we are going to at least get a movie because he's been so successful.
00:44:37
Speaker
Like people are going to want to know what happens next.
00:44:40
Speaker
And I don't know.
00:44:42
Speaker
I just think we're going to do season four.
00:44:43
Speaker
I think it's I think it's a sure thing.
00:44:46
Speaker
And we got to know what happens.
00:44:48
Speaker
Like there's a cliffhanger.
00:44:49
Speaker
Like there's the cliffhanger is that we don't know what's going to happen next.
00:44:54
Speaker
to everyone like everyone it's crazy how the villains like still won in the end um we we did not expect that to happen like we did not like i mean i knew that there was going to be a loophole but i also did not know that the loophole was going to be that
00:45:11
Speaker
Chucky would, there would be, of course, there'd be another Chucky, the original Chucky doll.
00:45:17
Speaker
And, or original quote unquote good guy doll.
00:45:23
Speaker
But,
00:45:25
Speaker
He's so insidious and he's so sneaky.
00:45:29
Speaker
It is insane.
00:45:31
Speaker
And I think it's funny now that he does like being a doll because he didn't want to be a doll forever, I think, initially.
00:45:40
Speaker
The idea was that he just wanted to get away from the cops.
00:45:43
Speaker
And when he realized that he could make more kills by just being...
00:45:50
Speaker
he took advantage of that.
00:45:53
Speaker
And I think that that is, that makes his character interesting.
00:45:58
Speaker
And it adds a level of progression in that way, even though his character is not emotionally progressing.
00:46:07
Speaker
It's you start to see like he's progressing as a villain and the kills are way crazy or like this season.
00:46:13
Speaker
The amount of gore is amazing.
00:46:17
Speaker
Oh my God, it's incredible.
00:46:18
Speaker
I love horror so much.
00:46:21
Speaker
I love it.
00:46:21
Speaker
And I really do wish that we did have more queer faces in horror because a lot of queer people love, we love horror.
00:46:28
Speaker
We love the genre.
00:46:30
Speaker
We love the idea of, it's not even about being scared, but I think it is about the idea that it is, how can I say this?
00:46:43
Speaker
It's almost like the opposite of
00:46:48
Speaker
I feel like queerness is very much frowned upon in the world.
00:46:54
Speaker
It is very much a thing where it feels like it's othered.
00:46:58
Speaker
It's not understood.
00:47:02
Speaker
People don't try to really understand it that don't really care to understand it.
00:47:07
Speaker
There's still some level of mystery in that.
00:47:09
Speaker
And I feel that way about horror.
00:47:11
Speaker
I feel like horror is this thing that is...
00:47:14
Speaker
There's so many different ways to look at it, and it doesn't have this very much umbrella thing.
00:47:21
Speaker
When I look at action movies or... Fantasy is another genre where it feels like it's cloud nine very much, but action movies are very intense and realistic and...
00:47:37
Speaker
oftentimes involve fighting or, you know, something like that, like very mundane things.
00:47:43
Speaker
And then horror starts to take this element of the mundane and the like cloud nine ish ness of fantasy, like fantasy is in some ways can create like the space of horror and, you
00:48:03
Speaker
I don't know.
00:48:04
Speaker
I love horror movies.
00:48:05
Speaker
It's a shame I think that people don't give it a chance or they just think it's scary or they don't really like the blood and guts.
00:48:15
Speaker
Because I think that on another level, there are these things that...
00:48:21
Speaker
horror can kind of teach us about the human mind and the way in which we kind of think about things and the ways in which we see the world.
00:48:32
Speaker
And then the ways in which we even like deal with, you know, like I said, spirituality, like demons and
00:48:39
Speaker
monsters, the idea of death and what that means, it starts to become this like broader conversation piece.
00:48:50
Speaker
And I think that when it comes to queerness, it almost feels like
00:48:56
Speaker
People think they know what it is to be queer.
00:48:59
Speaker
They think they have this idea of what it's like, but it's not what you think it is.
00:49:05
Speaker
And a lot of it is different from what heteronormative values, traditions, all of that stuff.
00:49:15
Speaker
Like, I feel like it's just very different and misunderstood.
00:49:20
Speaker
And a lot of ways.
00:49:21
Speaker
And so shout out to again, shout out to Dom and Sini for keeping this story going.
00:49:27
Speaker
And I'm just hoping that we get more queer stories about queer people experiencing, you know.
00:49:38
Speaker
horror.
00:49:39
Speaker
Like, I don't know, like being in the horror stuff.
00:49:42
Speaker
It's like very much you see yourself, you're like, I already see myself in it.
00:49:45
Speaker
So it's like, if I saw, you know, queer person, or I see a queer person like Devin and Jake, or even Tiffany's character, her being in love with Nika, Glenn, Glenda, like seeing them and their
00:50:01
Speaker
You know, the way in which they've kind of navigated the world and also became like very strong, like very quickly within themselves.
00:50:09
Speaker
Like they were split into two so that they could both kind of live their lives.
00:50:13
Speaker
But it is just very interesting to see how even then their gender identity is still...
00:50:23
Speaker
ambiguous.
00:50:24
Speaker
Like that is, and that's kind of what horror feels like sometimes it feels very ambiguous.
00:50:29
Speaker
Like you could have a paranormal thing happen.
00:50:31
Speaker
You could have a serial killer.
00:50:34
Speaker
You could, that's a slasher.
00:50:35
Speaker
You could have, um, you know, a,
00:50:42
Speaker
Like a ghost or some kind of a poltergeist or you could be dealing with a demon or you could be dealing with like a vampire or werewolf like it starts to dip into that fantasy world.
00:50:56
Speaker
I just I love it so much.
00:50:57
Speaker
And I want to talk about Interview with a Vampire.
00:51:01
Speaker
this month, as well as a part of the queer horror series that I'm doing.
00:51:06
Speaker
And so stay tuned for that.
00:51:09
Speaker
And then I'll probably talk about other stuff in the media lab, like next month.
00:51:13
Speaker
You know, Megan's album, shout out her and, you know, all that stuff.
00:51:16
Speaker
But
00:51:17
Speaker
Yeah.
00:51:20
Speaker
So moving into the final thought, let's move into that.

Critique of American Healthcare System

00:51:24
Speaker
I wanted to just say.
00:51:27
Speaker
Fuck the American health care system.
00:51:28
Speaker
I don't understand why dentist offices.
00:51:34
Speaker
Cannot.
00:51:36
Speaker
I don't understand why, like, you have to go to specific places for care.
00:51:43
Speaker
Like, it doesn't make sense.
00:51:44
Speaker
Like, healthcare should be universal.
00:51:46
Speaker
Like, there shouldn't be a, oh, I need to go to the doctor, but, like, I'm gonna, I need to specifically go to one that takes my insurance.
00:51:55
Speaker
Like, why can't I go to the doctor that I want to go to?
00:51:58
Speaker
And also, why the fuck is it so expensive?
00:52:01
Speaker
I'm tired of having to pay taxes.
00:52:06
Speaker
Like, so much of my taxes get taken out for things like that, for, like,
00:52:11
Speaker
you know, public benefits and whatnot.
00:52:14
Speaker
And I don't care that people are getting benefits.
00:52:16
Speaker
I think the thing that I care the most about is the fact that, like, people are still suffering.
00:52:25
Speaker
Like, people are still dealing with, like, chronic issues and chronic, whether it's oral, you know, mental, medical, vision, whatever.
00:52:38
Speaker
Like, I just feel like it is just not...
00:52:42
Speaker
Because I like my like, for example, I like my dentist's office and I got new dental insurance and I was like, OK, I think they might they might take them.
00:52:49
Speaker
And I can't tell on the website what insurance they take.
00:52:53
Speaker
So I had to call and be like, hey, do you guys like take my insurance?
00:52:56
Speaker
And they're like, actually, no, we don't.
00:52:58
Speaker
And I'm like, fuck.
00:52:59
Speaker
So now I have to find either go back to my dentist that I was going to before, which is just an OK dentist to me.
00:53:06
Speaker
Or I have to find a new dentist altogether.
00:53:09
Speaker
And I think that that fucking sucks because I really did love going to my dentist office because they always made me feel welcomed and they remember my name and they, you know, all of those things.
00:53:22
Speaker
And now I'm going somewhere where I'm like,
00:53:25
Speaker
every time the guy's like introducing himself to me like a new person.
00:53:28
Speaker
And I'm like, to the point where I'm about to say, I know I've had you before.
00:53:32
Speaker
I haven't said it yet, but I'm supposed to go later on in the month.
00:53:35
Speaker
And I'm about to just be like, boy, I don't had you already.
00:53:38
Speaker
Like, I know, I know who you are.
00:53:42
Speaker
I also wanted to just say,
00:53:47
Speaker
I want people to like shut the fuck up more and listen more.
00:53:52
Speaker
So one of the things I said at the beginning of the show was that I went to the gym and saw my trainer this week.
00:53:58
Speaker
And because my trainer, you know, couldn't see me for the 4th of July, he had me come in on Wednesday, which I don't normally go in on Wednesday.
00:54:07
Speaker
I'm normally Tuesday, Thursday, which is good for me because I feel like that back to back day is a lot.
00:54:15
Speaker
So, you know, I go see my trainer, whatever, blah, blah, blah.
00:54:19
Speaker
And this guy comes into class and he just won't stop talking.
00:54:23
Speaker
And of course, when we're doing exercises, he's just making so many noises, just grunting, like very attention-seeky.
00:54:32
Speaker
And I'm like...
00:54:34
Speaker
can you like shut the fuck up?
00:54:35
Speaker
It's like 5 30 in the morning.
00:54:38
Speaker
Like, I don't want to hear you keep talking and talking and talking.
00:54:42
Speaker
And I realized that about a lot of people, like a lot of people.
00:54:45
Speaker
And this is why I can't,
00:54:47
Speaker
I think be around like a lot of people sometimes because a lot of people do enjoy talking.
00:54:54
Speaker
Like they do enjoy the idea of being heard, but I also, but in that they don't hear other people and that's the problem.
00:55:05
Speaker
So with him, he was like, what did he say to me?
00:55:09
Speaker
He said,
00:55:11
Speaker
Well, he was, one, talking about the fact that, you know, everyone in the class, like, was sweating a lot and blah, blah, blah.
00:55:17
Speaker
And it's like, great, you have glands of steel and you don't have to, like, worry about sweating and all of this and that.
00:55:24
Speaker
And he's just, like, talking about how, oh, there's puddles of sweat on the floor.
00:55:29
Speaker
And, like, you know, it's like, you might as well just piss on the floor.
00:55:33
Speaker
And I'm like, well, sweat and piss aren't the same things.
00:55:36
Speaker
That's number one.
00:55:37
Speaker
Sweat is just salt water and other minerals.
00:55:40
Speaker
Like, it's not.
00:55:42
Speaker
Like, you can't get anything from sweat, you know?
00:55:45
Speaker
It's, you know, nasty, I guess, or whatever, but, like, and I hate sweating, but it's not, like, something you can get something from.
00:55:54
Speaker
And so he made that comment, and then he was, like, next to me later on in the class.
00:56:02
Speaker
And he didn't make it to me.
00:56:02
Speaker
Like, he didn't make that comment to me because I would have, like, I was ready to snap anyway.
00:56:08
Speaker
Um, but he just kind of said it out loud.
00:56:11
Speaker
And then he asked me like what my name was.
00:56:14
Speaker
And I told him what my name was and he's like, okay, my name is, and I want to say his name so bad, but I
00:56:21
Speaker
I'm a spare him this time.
00:56:23
Speaker
And I told him, you know, my name.
00:56:25
Speaker
And then he asked me that I've been coming there or is this my first class?
00:56:30
Speaker
And I'm like, no, like I've this is my third class or third week, actually, of being at the gym with this trainer.
00:56:39
Speaker
And he's like, oh, OK, like wanting to be in my business, like again, I'm
00:56:43
Speaker
This is what white people do.
00:56:45
Speaker
Like, it's like they really want to be in your business and they want to know everything.
00:56:48
Speaker
And then had the nerve to be like, all right, I'll see you later, Jason.
00:56:52
Speaker
And I'm like, my name's not fucking Jason.
00:56:54
Speaker
Like, you asked me what my name was.
00:56:56
Speaker
You're not fucking listening.
00:56:58
Speaker
So it just makes me want to not engage with you even more now because I
00:57:05
Speaker
you prove my point that you're a fucking talker and you won't shut the fuck up.
00:57:09
Speaker
So that pissed me off this week so bad.
00:57:13
Speaker
And mind you, like I woke up early, went to the gym, got there on time.
00:57:17
Speaker
And I tried to just let the like, almost like the anger just get me through the workout.
00:57:22
Speaker
But I hated that I had to feel like that.
00:57:25
Speaker
Like I felt like I
00:57:27
Speaker
I'm going to have to just like channel my anger into this workout, which ultimately worked for my benefit.
00:57:34
Speaker
But I just hate the idea of people that are not considerate of other people like that just want to talk all the time.
00:57:46
Speaker
They want to make noises.
00:57:48
Speaker
They want to be the center of attention.
00:57:50
Speaker
And then they're like usually miserable or like they don't aren't happy.
00:57:55
Speaker
And it's like because he was like, oh, he was like, I could probably teach the class for you today.
00:58:00
Speaker
And my trainer was like, ha ha ha, like not really.
00:58:03
Speaker
But everybody, you know, let's move into our breathing.
00:58:08
Speaker
And I was just like, yeah.
00:58:10
Speaker
dying on the inside dying laughing on the inside because i was just like my trainer probably is like sick of him um it has to put it has to be nice and put up with him and all of this and that which i'm just i'm like listen i'm not the trainer like i'll beat your ass so that's how i feel about that
00:58:28
Speaker
I also hate when people say stuff like, oh, my God, this really grinds my gears when people say be blessed after a disagreement.
00:58:37
Speaker
Someone did that when I had made this TikTok about relationships and how people need to stop fucking holding their partners hostage because.
00:58:49
Speaker
Just because they want to be in a relationship or just because they want someone to manipulate or play with.
00:58:55
Speaker
And this woman was trying to tell me like, oh, but they want to stay.
00:58:59
Speaker
And I'm like, oftentimes people don't want to stay in those situations or they love the person, but they don't really know how to leave or leave.
00:59:06
Speaker
they feel like no one else is going to love them or appreciate them.
00:59:10
Speaker
Or, you know, maybe this is as good as it gets.
00:59:14
Speaker
And I was talking to her about it in the comments a little bit.
00:59:16
Speaker
And then she said something back and was just like, no, like, I, you know, very strong about her opinion.
00:59:22
Speaker
I was just like, I'm not going to argue with you over TikTok.
00:59:24
Speaker
Like, I'm not going to do that.
00:59:25
Speaker
So I was just like, well, let's just agree to disagree.
00:59:27
Speaker
And then she said, um,
00:59:31
Speaker
That's when she then said, be blessed, you know?
00:59:35
Speaker
And I'm like, shut the... Like, that is so passive-aggressive to me.
00:59:39
Speaker
Like, it makes me want to curse you out at that point.
00:59:44
Speaker
Because it's just the way in which you start to use God as this tool of not taking any kind of accountability for the fact that you're...
01:00:03
Speaker
upset or you're, you know, or that you, you know, we're not seeing eye to eye.
01:00:09
Speaker
And it's all of a sudden it's, you know, be blessed because you don't want to, you know, you could, it's like leaning on Christianity as this way to justify your anger, you know, or justify your behaviors.
01:00:29
Speaker
And I don't like that.
01:00:30
Speaker
Like that shit makes me want to
01:00:32
Speaker
fucking scream lastly i also hate um that people are always saying things like you know let god be speedy with justice and this is just in reference to a post i saw when uh x formerly known as twitter um where there was a palestinian man who was like young man who was kidnapped and being tortured by um
01:01:01
Speaker
Israeli troops or whatever.
01:01:03
Speaker
And he and someone like posted this underneath, like, let God be speedy with justice.
01:01:10
Speaker
And I'm like, again, we're using religion to like, not address the actual fact that like, we have to do something like something has to be done.
01:01:18
Speaker
Like God is not going to do anything for us.
01:01:20
Speaker
We have to do it ourselves.
01:01:22
Speaker
Like that's
01:01:23
Speaker
the point in life.
01:01:24
Speaker
You don't, like, you can't just pray.
01:01:26
Speaker
You have to actually make action and take the sacrifice, the risk, the chance to actually make things better.
01:01:35
Speaker
Like, we can't just be like, prayers to God.
01:01:38
Speaker
I hope that, you know, he changes things.
01:01:40
Speaker
Like, he's not going to do it, you know.
01:01:42
Speaker
In history, I
01:01:44
Speaker
A lot of people have beenโ€”it wasn't likeโ€”okay, we're going to do this for a little bit, but it's not like in history where people like Martin Luther King or Abraham Lincoln, whether he had alternative motives or not for signingโ€”
01:02:03
Speaker
the emancipation for slaves or whatever.
01:02:05
Speaker
But it wasn't that God did those things.
01:02:08
Speaker
It was that those people were influenced to do those things nine times out of 10.
01:02:16
Speaker
And so...
01:02:20
Speaker
God is not going to like just take out all of the Israelis that are murdering and create, you know, committing genocide against Palestinian lives.
01:02:31
Speaker
Um, we're going to have to actually like shut them the fuck down.
01:02:35
Speaker
Like they're going to have to like be told to stop.
01:02:38
Speaker
Um, Yahoo, he's going to have to be told to stop, um,
01:02:43
Speaker
It's just or like, you know, go to war, something like we just can't rely on spirituality because it is.
01:02:54
Speaker
Yes, it helps you stay grounded in this and the other, but it also doesn't.
01:03:00
Speaker
do anything.
01:03:02
Speaker
Thoughts and prayers don't do anything.
01:03:04
Speaker
They are just that.
01:03:05
Speaker
They're thoughts and words.
01:03:08
Speaker
They're not actions.
01:03:10
Speaker
And I'm getting, I think, frustrated about it because I think I'm starting to understand my own spirituality in a way where I'm starting to almost like pour into myself and use, you know, universe or God or whoever as a way to, um,
01:03:32
Speaker
better myself and then also better the lives of other people by, you know, helping out when I can, you know, donating money or like there's times where I'll like giving friends money or giving friends, you know, things just because like I was just like, all right, yeah, I want to like spoil my friends or I want to
01:03:53
Speaker
let them grab them, you know, let them grab a coffee or something like that.
01:03:56
Speaker
Like, I just do it because it's a kind, nice thing to do.
01:04:01
Speaker
And I want people to feel appreciative.
01:04:03
Speaker
But, and I do it, you know, because I want to also feel whole.
01:04:12
Speaker
Like, I want to
01:04:15
Speaker
make sure that the people in my life know that I will be there for them.
01:04:22
Speaker
And in a way in which I do that is by buying gifts or by giving them things or, um, making myself available to hang out and, um,
01:04:32
Speaker
try to support them or whether it's like reading their resume or reading a cover letter or something like that like I always just try to like create this balance of the only way I can like help other people is if I pour into myself and then the way I have to do that is through meditation and you know exercise eating right and um
01:04:56
Speaker
Not eating meat, like that's because I'm starting to realize in my head, like that feels like a very spiritual thing for me to just to not eat and consume animals because it's like the idea of consuming death.
01:05:09
Speaker
And that to me is very.
01:05:12
Speaker
Interesting when you want to be alive, you want to be alive, you want to, you know, have the energy to do stuff, you want to not feel achy, bad.
01:05:22
Speaker
Like I've been, like I said, since I've like started to kind of eat better.
01:05:28
Speaker
I've just been able to have more get up and go and just going to the gym to like getting up and going, being able to get the things done that I want to get done, completing tasks on my list.
01:05:41
Speaker
And again, it's like action.
01:05:43
Speaker
Like you can't just have the thought that you want things to change.
01:05:46
Speaker
You actually have to do the thing.
01:05:48
Speaker
And I think you have to, if you are going to say, let God bring speedy justice or something of that nature, you also have to be doing the work of trying to fix the situation.
01:06:01
Speaker
And not to say that that person isn't.
01:06:03
Speaker
doing it.
01:06:03
Speaker
But I think that there are a lot of thoughts and prayers that go out that people think that, okay, like, great, like, we're thoughts and prayers.
01:06:11
Speaker
And, you know, we're all good.
01:06:12
Speaker
And we're moving on.
01:06:13
Speaker
But shit is just getting bad.
01:06:15
Speaker
And someone's gonna have to put their foot down.
01:06:18
Speaker
And I'm like, is it me?
01:06:21
Speaker
Like, is it me?
01:06:22
Speaker
Like, am I like, you know, when you point to your when you're pointing to yourself, because, you know, someone's pointing at you, and I feel like the universe is like pointing at me.
01:06:32
Speaker
And like, I'm looking like me, like, do I have to do something?
01:06:36
Speaker
So, you know, I don't know more to come.
01:06:39
Speaker
I guess the only way I feel like I can do something is if I am pouring into myself.
01:06:45
Speaker
And that's been like the very much the theme of this episode is the idea of pouring into yourself and, you
01:06:53
Speaker
Almost like self-acceptance in a way.
01:06:57
Speaker
But yeah, that's it for this episode.
01:06:59
Speaker
I'm glad that I got the fourth off.
01:07:03
Speaker
I won't have another day off until Labor Day.
01:07:07
Speaker
Wish there was a holiday in August, but I can't think of there's not one in August.
01:07:12
Speaker
So.
01:07:14
Speaker
Labor Day, and then it's, then it is, what's the one after that?
01:07:19
Speaker
Not Columbus Day, it's Indigenous Peoples Day.
01:07:22
Speaker
And then, which is also National Coming Out Day.
